Addition of NAA (1-naphthylacetic acid) to the nutrient medium strongly influenced the adventitious regeneration of plantlets from bulb-scale tissue of lilies in vitro. The percentage of regenerating explants, the number of plantlets per explant, and also the bulblet growth of the resulting plantlets were affected by the auxin, low concentrations being stimulatory and high concentrations inhibitory.The cytokinins BA (6-benzyladenine) and 2iP (N6-[Δ2-isopentenyl]-adenine) did not influence the adventitious regeneration, but caused aberrant growth of the regenerated plantlets.Prolonged cold storage of the mother bulbs decreased the demand for exogenous auxin for maximum adventitious regeneration. The optimum for bulblet growth was not affected.Results of experiments with cultivars ‘Pirate’, ‘Enchantment’ and ‘Connecticut King’ suggest an inverse relationship between the in vivo propagation rate by scaling and the NAA demand for optimal adventitious regeneration in vitro. 相似文献

Chinese chive is produced year-round in Japan, therefore it is important to demonstrate the relationships of short-day (SD) conditions with flower stalk elongation and flower formation for optimizing the cropping system, e.g. the increase in harvests per year. To clarify the influence of short photoperiod on flower stalk elongation and flower formation in Chinese chive, 8 h SD treatments were applied at different developmental stages of flower stalk elongation and flower formation. When the SD treatment started from vegetative or floral-initiated stages, the earlier the SD treatment started, the fewer flower stalks appeared. Also, the earlier the SD treatment started, the less the flowers bloomed and the more the flower stalk elongation was inhibited at the end of SD treatments. Many involucres did not open and withered with death of florets in SD when the SD treatment started between the umbel or flower bud differentiation and the perianth to stamen-formation stages. Also, all or part of the florets aborted and there were no complete inflorescences in the later SD treatments. We found that, in Chinese chive, the development of flower stalk elongation and flower formation were inhibited with the earlier SD treatment, after vegetative or floral-initiated stages. Furthermore, it is considered that Chinese chive needs long-day (LD) for the flower stalk elongation and inflorescence formation after the initiation of the flower bud. There has been limited research on measuring potential differences in leaf gas exchange of Arracacha (Peruvian parsnip, Arracacia xanthorriza Bancroft) cultivars, as affected by different environments, as well as its relation to storage root-yield. The present paper reports field measurements of leaf CO2 assimilation rates (A) for five contrasting cultivars grown at two different high-altitude locations. Using a design of plots chosen at random with three repetitions, commercial root production was determined in the two locations at different altitude (1580 and 1930 m). Daily leaf gas exchange was repeatedly monitored with a portable open-mode infrared gas analyzer at different times in both locations during the growth cycle. Root-yield, leaf area and dry weight were measured. Significant differences in leaf photosynthetic rate and in specific leaf area (SLA) were observed among cultivars. Cultivars with high SLA, had high CO2 assimilation. Mean (An) and total (Atot) of CO2 assimilation and SLA were significantly correlated with storage root-yield across cultivars and locations. The three cultivars with the greatest commercial root production also had the highest maximum values for A and the highest specific leaf area, indicating that these two parameters can be used to select for highly productive cultivars of A. xanthorriza. 相似文献

Lilium Oriental is of great commercial value, but large losses in production can result from its susceptibility to diseases caused by Fusarium ssp. Here we report a mutant of Lilium Oriental resistant to Fusarium, Cai-74, which was generated from crossing tetraploid (from ‘Star fighter’) and diploid (‘Cor. Amore’ × ‘Acapulco’) plants. Hybrid progeny were screened via inoculating Fusarium oxysporum into tissue cultured plantlets in a greenhouse. Although Cai-74 had a saponin content of 3.81 mg g−1, which is much higher than its parents, the highly Fusarium-resistant wild species Lilium dauricum had the highest content of 4.11 mg g−1 among the tested genotypes. Cai-74 had a 3A karyotype rather than 3B found in normal plants of Lilium Oriental. Taken together, our results suggest that Cai-74 bears a chromosomal variation in its structure, and that the saponin content in the lily scales correlate with the Fusarium resistance of Lilium Oriental. Cai-74 could be used as a gene resource for breeding Fusarium-resistant cultivars of Lilium Oriental. 相似文献

Ancymidol, chlormequat, and daminozide were evaluated as growth retardants on forced dahlias. Only ancymidol was effective in reducing plant height, and at 0.25 to 2.0 mg per plant it did not affect the date of flowering, flower size, or the number of shoots produced from the tuberous roots. Treatment by soil drench was more effective than a foliar spray. The most consistent effects were obtained when ancymidol was applied 2 weeks after planting. Dahlia cultivars differed in the degree of response to ancymidol. Optimum rates must be determined for the cultivars which are suitable for pot plant forcing for spring marketing. 相似文献

Production of bulblets from bulb scales of 12 Lilium Oriental hybrid clones indicated that an approximately threefold range in regenerative capacity existed within this group. The cultivar ‘Empress of India’ was the highest producer and provided 10 bulblets per bulb scale during a six-month period. This could provide an estimated yield of 500 bulblets per bulb. Propagation from bulb scales of most of the clones was equally effective with scales which were removed from the plants either immediately after cold treatment of the dormant bulbs, at the cessation of flowering, or at the cessation of growth of the aerial stems (post-senescence). Only ‘Empress of India’ and ‘American Eagle’ deviated, in that they produced fewer bulblets at the post senescence stage.When bulb scales were removed for propagation immediately after flowering, and treated with a combination of BAP and NAA (both 5 μM), bulblet production of the low producing clones was significantly increased, while that of the high producing ‘Empress of India’ was significantly decreased. These effects were less pronounced when the bulb scales were removed at the post-cold stage and virtually absent at the post senescence stage. 相似文献

Sustainable agriculture has become a concern, due to the pressures of the “energy crisis” and issues of “environmental protection”. The use of organic fertilizer made from agricultural waste regenerates natural resources and reduces the consumption of fossil energy as well as phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) deposits. There is scant information available concerning the use of organic fertilizer as the sole source of nutrients in flower production, especially in the cultivation of flowers in a soilless condition. The objective of this study was to develop an organic fertilization management system to replace the chemical fertilization management of the cut flower production of Anthurium andreanum Lind. cultivated under soilless conditions. Four fertilization treatments were carried out consisting of two chemical fertilizers [controlled release fertilizer (CRF) and a chemical nutrient solution (CNS)], and two organic fertilizers [pea and rice hull compost (PRHC) and cattle dung with tea leaf residue compost (CDTC)]. The effects of the various fertilizations on A. andreanum were evaluated based on plant growth, nutrient uptake, and cut flower quality during the 1-year experimental period. The results show that the growth, yield, and cut flower quality of plants receiving PRHC were the same as those receiving CNS and CRF, indicating that PRHC can substitute for CRF and CNS as a nutrient source for cut flower production of A. andreanum cultivated in soilless condition. The plants that received the CNS and PRHC treatments had a significantly increased leaf number and new leaf growth area than those that received the CRF and CDTC treatments. The plants receiving the CDTC showed the lowest increase in leaf area and number of flowers. The retardant growth of plants treated with CDTC has been explained as being due to less carbon (C) being assimilated, most likely as the result of an insufficient supply of nitrogen (N) and manganese (Mn) toxicity. The petiole and peduncle length of the plants receiving the CRF were the shortest, which might be due to the low level of potassium (K) accompanying the magnesium (Mg) deficiency. Even though there were significant differences in the N and K concentrations of the plants among the different treatments, no significant differences were observed in the cut flower quality. In short, the organic fertilizer PRHC can meet the nutrient requirements of A. andreanum cultivation for the cut flower production under soilless conditions. 相似文献

Factors influencing the number of flowers produced in Pelargonium × domesticum cultivar ‘Lavender Grand Slam’, and their rate of development after the plants had been given a period of low-temperature flower induction, were studied.Under short days progressive abortion reduced flower numbers as the temperature regime during the forcing-period was increased. Under long days this effect was less marked and the high-temperature regime advanced flowering by over a month. When long days and high temperatures were used for forcing, it was necessary to maintain a high light intensity, 335 J/cm2/day giving the best results in terms of earliness of flowering and the number of flowers produced. The effects of cold storage of mature potted plants on postharvest leaf and flower quality were investigated in several cultivars of three major groups (Oriental, Asiatic and LA) of hybrid lilies (Lilium spp.). Mature plants were stored in darkness at 3 °C for 2 weeks before placing them in a postharvest evaluation room (22 °C) and were compared with plants moved directly to the evaluation room. The efficacy of GA4+7 plus benzyladenine (BA) treatments (applied just before cold storage) for preventing cold-induced postharvest disorders in each cultivar was also evaluated. In all cultivars, cold storage caused several adverse effects on postharvest quality, including accelerated leaf yellowing or browning, bud abortion and reduced flower or inflorescence longevity. Leaf abscission was observed only in Oriental-hybrids. Treatment with GA4+7 plus BA significantly reduced these disorders and improved the overall postharvest quality after cold storage. While different cultivars differed greatly in their sensitivity to cold storage, all the cultivars benefited from GA4+7 plus BA treatment. Experiments indicated that GA4+7 plus BA treatments could be applied as early as 2 weeks before the mature bud stage without compromising the positive effects. 相似文献

Performance of four Rosa hybrida L. cultivars (‘African Dawn’, ‘Ilios’, ‘Maroussia’ and ‘Soprano’) was evaluated. They were grown either on their own roots or grafted (stenting) onto Rosa canina L. ‘Inermis’ rootstock in a polyethylene greenhouse with hydroponics system. Parameters of plant growth and flower quality were investigated for two successive harvesting years (2005 and 2006). Results indicated that, all the cultivars were superior for most of the parameters studied when grafted onto rootstock compared to being on their own roots. Flowering stem fresh weight and diameters, flower fresh and dry weight, flower diameter and length, petal number, leaf chlorophyll content and quality index were higher in grafted plants compared to those propagated by cuttings. The influence of epidermal tissue pH on flower colour was studied in 104 cultivars of Azalea indica (Rhododendron simsii Planch.). Based on H.C.C. visual colour number, cultivars were classified in 4 colour groups: purple; carmine red; red; white.A method for pH determination using microvolumes (30 μl) on a microelectrode has been perfected. Within each colour group, flower colour was determined within a mean pH environment of 3.04 ± 0.06. Epidermal pH was approximately 0.3 units lower than the pH of the expressed sap of entire petals. Purple colours occurred with co-pigmented malvidin or delphinidin glycosides. Carmine red and red colours were produced by the same cyanidin glycosides that in the case of carmine red were co-pigmented with flavonol glycosides. The lower the content of anthocyanins (cyanidin glycosides) and the higher that of flavonols, the bluer the red (higher H.C.C. number; bathochromic shift of about 20 nm). A carmine red flower colour (± 58 B) may also occur when delphinidin glycosides occur in the absence of flavonol glycosides (pH < 4).Prospects for obtaining a blue flower colour are, because of low epidermal pH, very small. 相似文献

The effects of cultivar, drying and storage conditions on total phenolics (TP), total flavonoids (TF) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), measured with ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and radical scavenging capacity (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl or DPPH) assays, of in-shell and unpeeled kernels of ripe pistachios were investigated. Drying was carried out at 45 °C for 34 h to approximately 5% moisture in kernels and storage of dried nuts in packaging atmosphere of dry air or N2 at 1 °C or 20 °C for 6 or 12 months. At harvest, each cultivar showed its highest values for each measured variable and TP ranged from 16.2 to 7.9 mg gallic acid equiv. g−1 d.w., TF from 7.2 to 3 mg catechin equiv. g−1 d.w., FRAP from 132.5 to 58.8 μmol Trolox equiv. g−1 d.w., and DPPH from 122.6 to 45.7 μmol Trolox equiv. g−1 d.w. Drying resulted in losses in all cultivars that averaged approximately 14.2%, 14.1%, 11.9% and 12.2% for TP, TF, FRAP and DPPH, respectively, while during 12-month storage the corresponding losses in dried kernels averaged approximately 24.7%, 21.8%, 30.3% and 32.4%. Decreases in all measured variables were advanced by storage time, but prevented by low temperature and packaging in N2 atmosphere. Among the studied cultivars, Pontikis, Aegina, Bronte and Cerasola showed higher values of TP, TF and TAC than Sirora, Kerman, Joley and Mumtaz in all cases, while Pontikis the highest in most cases. The effects of cultivar, time, temperature and packaging atmosphere during storage were all significant on TP, TF, FRAP and DPPH. Juvenility, cold requirement and the effect of GA3-application on flowering have been studied for some cultivars. If present, the juvenile phase was very short. Cold treatment for 8–12 weeks at 4 °C followed by 2 weeks at 10 °C gave flowering in all cultivars. Gibberellin sprays (250 or 500 p.p.m., 3 times) after an incomplete cold treatment promoted bolting and flowering even in the slow-bolting ‘Trero’, having the highest cold requirement. 相似文献

Three cultivars, Counter, Calypso and Spectra, were grown in NFT at a range of salinities (electrical conductivities of 5,10 and 15 mS cm-1) in two successive crops during the year. The incidence of blossom-end rot (BER) in ‘Calypso’ and ‘Spectra’ was substantially higher than in ‘Counter’ at all salinities. In the early crop, ‘Calypso’ had the highest incidence of BER at 10 mS cm-1, of which the proportion of international BER was greater than in ‘Spectra’. In the late crop, ‘Spectra’ had a higher incidence of BER than ‘Calypso,’ and a higher proportion of external BER. In the early crop, the incidence of BER in both cultivars grown at 10 mS cm"1 was higher than those at 15 mS cm-1, mainly due to an exceptionally high incidence of internal BER. In the late crop, however, the reverse was true. ‘Counter’, which is not susceptible to BER, had a higher shoot dry weight than the two BER susceptible cultivars. Nevertheless, ‘Calypso’ and ‘Spectra’ set more fruit in the lower and upper trusses respectively. A high incidence of BER was related to a high number of fruit set in the susceptible cultivars. Both the Ca content and the daily rate of Ca accumulation in the fruit were reduced by salinity, but no differences between cultivars were observed. The distal placenta and locular tissues had the lowest Ca content in the whole fruit and appeared to be the site of the earliest symptoms of BER. The interaction between cultivar and salinity affecting the Ca content of these tissues was not significant. The causes of susceptibility to BER in tomato are discussed. 相似文献

Thermoperiodicity, i.e. growth in the alternating temperature regime with the same diurnal mean compared with growth at the constant temperature at which optimal growth occurs, was studied at three plant population densities in four cultivars of Rosa hybrida L. Single-node cuttings with five-leaflet leaves were excised and grown as single-stemmed rose plants at an average photosynthetic photon flux density of about 260 μmol m−2 s−1 and supplied with carbon dioxide at about 1000 μmol mol−1. The optimal constant temperature regime was 22 °C day (20 h)/22 °C night (4 h); alternating temperatures were 23 °C day (20 h)/18 °C night (4 h). The plant population densities were 100, 131 and 178 plants m−2 of bench area. Thermoperiodicity was absent, or could not be detected, in the parameters related to the growth period, the formation of fresh biomass, the bloom quality, and most parameters related to shoot elongation. However, classic thermoperiodic effects of alternating regime were significant in the cultivars Red Velvet and Sonia, with shoot elongation promoted (7.1 and 10.5%, respectively) in the growth phase from onset of axillary bud growth until the flower bud became visible. Compared with the other two cultivars, plants of Red Velvet and Sonia tended to develop longer internodes. The results, obtained concurrently at three different plant population densities, suggest that thermoperiodicity can affect (single-stemmed) plant growth and development in R. hybrida. Increased plant population density also increased plant height at visible flower bud, but the bloom quality, expressed as specific fresh weight, and the flower height at anthesis was decreased at the highest density. Increased plant population density increased the number of five-leaflet leaves developed in Red Velvet, but had no effect on leaf number in Texas and Sonia, while, in Lambada the leaf number was decreased at the highest density. 相似文献

This work is an evaluation of the quality of three introduced European olive cultivars Arbequina, Coratina, and Koroneiki grown under a biological agricultural system in the arid zone of Sfax in Tunisia compared to Chemlali cultivars. Various olive parameters were analyzed, such as ripening index, pulp/stone (P/S) ratio and oil content. We have considered the regulated physicochemical analytical parameters, fatty acids and minor compounds for olive oil. The most of the quality indices and fatty acid composition showed significant variations among olive cultivars. The Koroneiki, Coratina and Chemlali Zarzis cultivars had highest values of oleic acid (62.7%) (76.8%, 75.8% and 73.9%, respectively), Arbequina, had lowest value of oleic acid and similar to Chemlali Sfax. Coratina was noteworthy for its higher content of phenolic compounds (287.8 mg kg−1), oil content (42.4%) and P/S ratio (4.7%). Although their low phenol contents, autochthonous cultivars presented high contents of α-tocopherol (577.8 and 434.6 mg kg−1 for Chemlali Boughrara and Chemlali Zarzis, respectively) except for Chemlali Sfax. In conclusion, European cultivars seem to have adapted to the area studied according to their oil biochemical composition while the increase observed in their α-tocopherol levels. A new virus species designated as Grapevine leafroll associated virus-Pr (GLRaV-Pr), which is classified in a distinct phylogenetic group of the genus Ampelovirus (Closteroviridae), was recently characterized from Greek grapevine cultivars. Elimination studies of GLRaV-Pr were carried out in two grapevine cultivars, ‘Mantilaria’ and ‘Prevezaniko’, co-infected with Grapevine rupestris stem pitting associated virus (GRSPaV, Flexiviridae). Both viruses were detected by nested RT-PCR assays. Virus elimination was achieved by combining in vitro thermotherapy with meristem (≤0.2 mm) or shoot tip culture (≤0.5 cm). The survival and regeneration rate of meristems was very low. On the other hand, high survival rates were observed in the cultured shoot tips accompanied with high elimination rates for both viruses. Data obtained in this study indicate that virus elimination depends on the genotype of grapevine. The results confirmed that sanitation is easier for species of the Closteroviridae family than for GRSPaV, whereas it seems that eradication of GLRaV-Pr and GRSPaV is feasible even with larger plant tissue parts if combined with an appropriate thermotherapy profile in vitro. 相似文献

Terminal stem cuttings of 9 poinsettia cultivars were pretreated with auxin compounds either singly or in combination prior to rooting in both the winter and summer. The 9 cultivars responded similarly to the auxin containing chemicals with the dual treatment of a liquid dip into either Jiffy Grow at 1 000 ppm or Chloromone at 750 ppm followed by a powder dip with Hormodin No. 2, most effective in stimulating rooting in all cultivars studied except ‘Marble Annette Hegg’. In the winter, the combination treatment of Jiffy Grow at 1 000 ppm and Hormodin No. 2 significantly increased rooting over the separate application of these chemicals, whereas in the summer there was an increased benefit of dual treatment only with ‘C-1 Red’ and ‘Annette Hegg Supreme’. Those cultivars such as ‘C-1 Red’ and ‘Ecke White’ which produced a low number of roots and fresh weight without root promoters, responded most to auxin root promoters. 相似文献

The fact that male flowers far outnumber female flowers is a factor that limits nut yield in Chinese chestnut. A naturally occurring mutation of male catkins was found on a single branch of a Chinese chestnut tree in the mountains near Beijing, China. The mutation was named short catkin1 (sck1). The catkin length of sck1 was only 1/6 to 1/8 that of the wild-type male catkins on the same tree. The mutation was associated with a greater number of female flowers and increased yield. Observations on the development of male catkins with the sck1 phenotype showed that the distal part of the catkins aborted at the stage of chestnut staminate flower differentiation. Further research using transmission electron microscope analysis showed that the process of cell death in sck1 catkins had the typical characteristics of programmed cell death at the subcellular level, such as condensed chromatin, dissolved nucleolus, degraded karyoplasm, burst karyotheca, and disintegrated chloroplasts or mitochondria. Significantly, DNA laddering was detected in tissues of sck1 catkins. In conclusion, the results showed that sck1 was associated with PCD. 相似文献

Amounts and types of flavan-3-ols in leaves and fruit skins of scab-resistant and susceptible apple cultivars were determined by the combined use of HPLC and CRD (chemical reaction detection). The latter is necessary because the UV absorption spectra of flavanols are generally uninformative. Resistant cultivars had higher quantities of fla- van-3-ols in leaf tissue and fruit skin than susceptible ones: levels were 6.5 fold higher in leaves and 3 fold higher in fruit skins.
