The objectives of this study were to evaluate the dry matter intake (DMI), digestibility, average daily gain (ADG), microbial efficiency, empty body weight (EBW) gain, and body composition of Nellore bulls. Additionally, Nellore bull maturity was estimated, and the prediction equation for DMI, suggested by the Brazilian nutrient requirements system (BR CORTE; Azevêdo et al. 2010), was evaluated. Thirty-three Nellore bulls, with a mean initial weight of 259?±?25 kg and age of 14?±?1 months, were used in this study. Five animals were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment (control group), and the remaining 28 were divided into 4 groups, each slaughtered at 42-day intervals. Their diet was composed of corn silage and concentrate (55:45). The power model was used to estimate muscle tissue, bone tissue, crude protein (CP), mineral matter (MM), and water present in the empty body, while the exponential model was used to estimate adipose tissue and ether extract (EE) present in the empty body. When expressed in kilograms per day, differences were observed (P?<?0.05) only for the intake of EE and neutral detergent fiber as a function of feedlot time periods. Although there was a difference in relation to nutrient intake, it did not affect (P?>?0.05) digestibility, with the exception of EE digestibility. The equation suggested by BR CORTE correctly estimates the DMI of Nellore bulls. ADG was not affected (P?>?0.05) by time spent in the feedlot. No differences were observed (P?>?0.05) for microbial efficiency; a mean value of 142 g microbial crude protein/kg total digestible nutrients was achieved. The muscle and bone tissues, CP, MM, and water present in the empty body increased as the animal grew, although at a lower rate. The adipose tissue and EE present in the empty body increased their deposition rate when the animal reached its mature weight. Maturity is defined as when an animal reaches 22 % EE in the empty body, which corresponds to 456 kg of EBW in Nellore bulls. Therefore, this study can conclude that the feedlot time period does not affect DMI, nutrient intake, ADG, or microbial efficiency. The equation proposed by BR CORTE (Azevêdo et al. 2010) correctly estimates the DMI of Nellore bulls, which reach maturity when an EBW of 456 kg is attained.  相似文献

Plasma IGF-I, IGF binding protein-2 (IGFBP-2), and IGFBP-3 were quantified in growing Angus bulls (n = 56) to determine their relationship with postweaning growth and carcass ultrasound measurements. In addition, GH response to GHRH challenge (area-under-the-curve GH [AUC-GH) was determined for each bull as part of a previous study. Blood was collected by jugular venipuncture at the start of a 140-d postweaning growth performance test and at 28 d intervals for plasma IGF-I determination by RIA. Plasma IGFBP-2 and -3 content was measured at the start of the study, on d 70, and d 140 by Western ligand blotting. Individual weights and hip heights were measured every 28 d during the study and carcass longissimus muscle area, intramuscular fat percentage, and carcass backfat were estimated by ultrasound on d 140. Greater plasma IGF-I at the start of the performance test was associated with reduced postweaning ADG and increased longissimus area. Throughout the performance test period, the correlations between plasma IGF-I and hip height were consistently positive, ranging from 0.10 to 0.38, but the correlations between ADG and IGF-I varied from -0.32 to 0.31. Age-adjusted d-1 plasma IGFBP-2 was related to ADG during the performance test, explaining nearly 30% of the variation in ADG. A model combining weaning age, IGFBP-2, and AUC-GH showed a strong relationship with ADG (R2 = 0.40). Plasma IGFBP-2 and -3 were not related to carcass characteristics, and IGFBP-3 was not related to growth rates. This study provides additional evidence for the variable relationship between plasma IGF-I and growth rates in cattle. A significant positive relationship between plasma IGFBP-2, AUC-GH, and postweaning ADG warrants further investigation.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of fat supplementation on plasma levels of hormones related to metabolism, with special attention to leptin, in cows in early lactation and in feedlot steers. In experiment 1, 34 lactating cows received no fat or else 0.5 or 1.0 kg of partially hydrogenated oil per day in addition to their basal diet from day 20 before the expected calving date to day 70 postpartum. In experiment 2, part of the corn in the basal concentrate was replaced with 0.7 kg of the same oil such that the diets were isocaloric; 18 cows received the fat-substituted diet and 18 a control diet from day 20 before the expected calving date to day 75 postpartum. In experiment 3, calcium salts of fatty acids were added to the basal diet of 14 feedlot steers for 80 d; another 14 steers received a control diet. The basal plasma levels of leptin were higher in the cows than in the steers. Dietary fat supplementation did not affect the leptin levels in the lactating cows but lowered the levels in the feedlot steers despite greater energy intake and body fatness (body weight) in the steers receiving the supplement than in those receiving the control diet. The levels of insulin-like growth factor I and insulin were decreased with dietary fat supplementation in the lactating cows but were unaffected in the steers, suggesting that responses to fat ingestion depend on the physiological state of the animal, including age and sex. Finally, no effects of supplementary fat on the level of growth hormone were demonstrated in any of the models.  相似文献

The concentrations of circulating insulin-like growth factor I, growth hormone, insulin and thyroid hormones were measured in broilers selected for an increase in growth, broilers in which selection pressure was relaxed and in White Leghorns. Growth hormone levels increased in all lines between 3 and 4 weeks of age followed by a decline to adult levels. The lines with the slowest rate of growth had the highest growth hormone concentrations. Insulin-like growth factor I concentrations increased significantly in all three lines of birds during the 10 weeks of study and was significantly correlated with the increase in body weight. There were no consistent differences in plasma IGF-1 levels between the lines. Thyroxine levels increased consistently throughout the study but the levels of triiodothyronine decreased between 5 and 6 weeks of age in all lines. There were no consistent changes in plasma insulin levels. The highest rate of growth in these animals is accompanied by an increase in growth hormone concentration followed by an increase in plasma IGF-1. However, despite differences in plasma growth hormone, plasma concentrations of IGF-1 are not different between lines and are not related to between line differences in growth rate.  相似文献

Twelve 11 month old male Beagles were assigned to two treatment groups: a control group (saline) and a group receiving human growth hormone (GH)-releasing factor (hGRF) [1-29]NH2 (25 micrograms/kg, SC, TID). Treatment was started 6 days prior to surgery (day 1) and continued until necropsy (3 dogs per group/day) on d 29 or 58. Two porous polyethylene rods were surgically implanted on the lateral diaphysis of the femoral shaft and a 3 mm hole was drilled through the cortex between the two implants of each dog on day 1. Blood and urine were collected on d -6, 27 and 56. Human GRF injections produced a significant (P < 0.05) increase in GH release following each injection. An increase in GH response was also observed (P < 0.05) over time. The concentration of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) increased for 5 weeks and then reached a plateau. None of the hematologic or urine measured parameters was affected by the treatment (P > 0.05). Albumin, calcium, and protein concentrations were higher (P < 0.05) on d 27 and 56 in GRF-treated animals. Histological sections of the onlay sites showed that bony ingrowth tended to be greater into the porous polyethylene material in GRF-treated animals than the controls at d 28 and 57, while no difference was observed in the degree of periosteal bone formation around the implants at either time period (P > 0.05). Bone formation into the cortical defect was greater in the GRF-treated dogs when compared to controls at day 57 only. In conclusion, chronic hGRF [1-29]NH2 treatment in Beagle dogs produced an increased GH response over time and increased IGF-1 concentrations. It also appeared to promote bony ingrowth into a porous polyethylene onlay and into a bony deficit.  相似文献

Effects of fiber vs starch energy supplements on endogenous growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) and animal performance from weaning to breeding age were evaluated in 18, 9-mo-old beef heifers. Heifers had ad libitum access to wheat silage plus an average daily supplement intake of 1) 4.08 kg corn-soybean meal (SBM) (high energy-starch, HS), 2) 4.54 kg soyhulls (SH)-SBM (high energy-fiber, HF) or 3) 1.36 kg SH-SBM (low energy-fiber, LE). Serum samples were collected via jugular puncture every 10 d and were analyzed for IGF-1 by RIA. On d 45 and d 176, four heifers per treatment were fasted 18 h and serial blood samples collected via jugular cannulas every 15 min for 6.5 h. Arginine (.5 g/kg BW) was administered intravenously (ARG) to induce release of GH, and four additional samples of blood were collected. Samples were analyzed by RIA for GH. Mean fasted GH (6.4 +/- .4, 8.3 +/- .4 and 13.8 +/- .4 ng/ml for HS, HF and LE, respectively) varied with energy source and level (P less than .01). Mean GH following ARG was higher (P less than .01) in heifers receiving LE (46.2 +/- 4.7) than in those receiving HS and HF (23.5 +/- 4.4 and 24.1 +/- 4.6 ng/ml). Basal GH concentration and peak amplitude were higher (P less than .05) in LE than in HS and HF treatments. Diet did not influence number or frequency of GH peaks.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Effects of photoperiod on growth, carcass composition and serum concentrations of prolactin, growth hormone and cortisol were determined in prepubertal and postpubertal Holstein heifers. Forty-two prepubertal (avg body wt 84 +/- 3.0 kg) and 42 postpubertal (avg body wt 303 +/- 7.1 kg) Holstein heifers were utilized. Ten prepubertal and 10 postpubertal heifers were slaughtered before treatment began to obtain initial carcass data. The remaining 32 prepubertal and 32 postpubertal heifers were paired by body weight and randomly assigned to short-day (8 h of light: 16 h of dark) or long-day (16 h of light: 8 h of dark) photoperiods. After exposure to treatments for an average of 139 d, 10 prepubertal and 10 postpubertal heifers from each photoperiod treatment were slaughtered. In prepubertal heifers, photoperiod did not affect (P greater than .10) average daily body weight gain, carcass weight, carcass composition, accretion of carcass fat and carcass protein, or serum concentrations of prolactin, growth hormone or cortisol. However, prepubertal heifers exposed to long-day photoperiods had reduced (P less than .01) urinary N tau-methylhistidine excretion compared with heifers given short-day photoperiods. Postpubertal heifers exposed to short-day photoperiods had greater average body weight daily gain than animals exposed to long-day photoperiods. Although there was no effect of photoperiod (P greater than .10) on carcass or fat depot weights, postpubertal heifers exposed to short days had greater (P = .06) percentages of fat and reduced (P = .07) percentages of protein in the soft tissue of the 9-10-11 rib sections. Fat accretion was greater (P less than .05) in carcasses of postpubertal heifers exposed to short days than heifers given long-day photoperiods, but there was no effect (P greater than .10) of photoperiod on protein accretion. Photoperiod did not affect serum concentrations of growth hormone and cortisol, but serum prolactin tended (P less than .10) to be greater in postpubertal heifers exposed to long days. Under the conditions of this experiment, we conclude that exposure to short-day photoperiods stimulated body weight gain and fat accretion in postpubertal but not prepubertal Holstein heifers.  相似文献

Fifty feline sarcomas associated with vaccine-site injection were evaluated to determine the immunohistochemical expression of p53 protein, basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-b), and transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-alpha). Forty-one tumors (82%) were fibrosarcomas (FS), eight (16%) were malignant fibrous histiocytomas (MFH), and one (2%) was a chondrosarcoma (CS). Overexpression of p53 protein was observed in the nuclei of tumor cells in 28 (56%) sarcomas; FGF-b expression was found in the cytoplasm of tumor cells in 40 (80%) feline sarcomas, but the staining was more intense in the spindle-shaped cells of FS than in polygonal or round cells of MFH. The single CS faintly expressed FGF-b. The majority of feline vaccine-associated sarcomas (43 of 50, 86%) expressed moderate or intense staining for TGF-alpha in the cytoplasm of tumor cells. Heterogeneous immunolabeling for p53, FGF-b, and TGF-alpha was present in neoplastic, multinucleated giant cells. Intense expression of FGF-b was statistically associated with younger cats (P < 0.01) and with tumors with nodular growth patterns (P = 0.02). In addition, sarcomas negative for p53 protein expressed FGF-b more frequently than did p53-positive tumors (P = 0.04). The frequency of FGF-b immunostaining was significantly higher in sarcomas with intense expression of TGF-alpha (P = 0.05). Immunohistochemical detection of p53 protein, FGF-b, and TGF-alpha suggests that these growth-regulating proteins may play different roles in the development of sarcomas associated with vaccine sites.  相似文献

Eighty Charolais-cross steer calves (283 kg) were fed a moderately high-energy (2.89 Mcal ME/kg) diet for 189 d to examine the effects of reimplantation of 36 mg of zeranol (Ralgro) or 200 mg progesterone plus 20 mg estradiol benzoate (Synovex-S) on the rate, composition and efficiency of gain, skeletal size and carcass parameters in a comparative slaughter trial. The implant treatments included unimplanted controls (C), Ralgro initially (R1), Synovex-S initially (S1), Ralgro initially and a reimplant at 84 d (R2) and Synovex-S initially and a reimplant at 84 d (S2). Both implants increased (P less than .06) gains by 8.1% from 0 to 84 d. Ralgro and Synovex-S increased (P less than .01) daily gains by 11.5% and 25.2%, respectively, from 84 to 189 d. The duration of the response to a single implant appeared to be in excess of 140 d; thus, reimplantation did not further increase daily gains. Reimplantation did improve (P less than .05) feed utilization in Ralgro implanted steers, however. Ralgro and Synovex-S increased (P less than .01) the rate of empty body (EB) protein accretion by 14.1% and 24%, respectively, without affecting EB fat growth. The efficiency of protein gain per unit protein (P less than .05) or energy intake (P less than .04) was improved, but the efficiency of energy gain per unit energy intake was not affected by implantation. Carcass weights of implanted steers were 5% greater (P less than .04) when adjusted to an equal carcass fatness. Both growth stimulants increased hip height (P less than .02), wither height (P less than .08) and body length (P less than .08) over C steers at slaughter.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE:To identify extracellular proteoglycans produced by canine melanoma cell lines and analyze the effect of transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) on these proteoglycans. SAMPLE POPULATION: 3 canine melanoma cell lines (ie, CML-1, CML-6M, and CML-10c2). PROCEDURE: Extracellular proteoglycans were analyzed by use of metabolic labeling and western immunoblot analysis. The effect of TGF-beta1 on cell proliferation was determined by incorporation of 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine. RESULTS: The CML-1 and CML-6M melanoma cell lines produced 2 main extracellular proteoglycans. One of them was identified as versican, a proteoglycan found in undifferentiated human melanoma cell lines. The CML-10c2 cells produced a small amount of extracellular proteoglycans. Addition of TGF-beta1 (1.25 to 6.25 ng/ml) increased the release of sulfated proteoglycans into the medium. The TGF-beta1 had mainly a posttranslational effect, because it increased the molecular mass of the sulfated bands. Addition of IGF-I (50 ng/ml) slightly increased production of proteoglycans in the CML-6M cell line, whereas HGF (50 ng/ml) did not have any effect on proteoglycan production. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The proteoglycan content and response toTGF-beta1 treatment for CML-1 and CML-6M canine melanoma cell lines are similar to that for undifferentiated human melanoma cell lines. In contrast, CML-10c2 cells produced a low amount of proteoglycans with high molecular weight. Because these extracellular proteoglycans are involved in the control of cell adhesion, proliferation, and migration, they may play an important role in the progression of melanomas in dogs.  相似文献

Background: The focus of recent research has been directed toward the probiotic potential of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens(BA) on the gut health of animals. However, little is known about BA's effects on piglets with intra-uterine growth retardation(IUGR). Therefore, this study investigated the effects of BA supplementation on the growth performance, intestinal morphology, inflammatory response, and microbiota of IUGR piglets. Methods: Eighteen litters of newborn piglets were selected at birth, with one normal birth weight(NBW) and two IUGR piglets in each litter(i.e., 18 NBW and 36 IUGR piglets in total). At weaning, the NBW piglet and one of the IUGR piglets were assigned to groups fed a control diet(i.e., the NBW-CON and IUGR-CON groups). The other IUGR piglet was assigned to a group fed the control diet supplemented with 2.0 g BA per kg of diet(i.e., IUGR-BA group). The piglets were thus distributed across three groups for a four-week period. Results: IUGR reduced the growth performance of the IUGR-CON piglets compared with the NBW-CON piglets. It was also associated with decreased vil us sizes, increased apoptosis rates, reduced goblet cel numbers, and an imbalance between pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the smal intestine. Supplementation with BA improved the average daily weight gain and the feed efficiency of the IUGR-BA group compared with the IUGR-CON group(P 0.05). The IUGR-BA group exhibited increases in the ratio of jejunal vil us height to crypt depth, in ileal vil us height, and in ileal goblet cel density. They also exhibited decreases in the numbers of jejunal and ileal apoptotic cel s and ileal proliferative cel s(P 0.05). Supplementation with BA increased interleukin 10 content, but it decreased tumor necrosis factor alpha level in the smal intestines of the IUGR-BA piglets(P 0.05). Furthermore, compared with the IUGR-CON piglets, the IUGR-BA piglets had less Escherichia coli in their jejunal digesta, but more Lactobacil us and Bifidobacterium in their ileal digesta(P 0.05).Conclusions: Dietary supplementation with BA improves morphology, decreases inflammatory response, and regulates microbiota in the smal intestines of IUGR piglets, which may contribute to improved growth performance during early life.  相似文献

A 2 X 2 factorially arranged trial was conducted to compare effects of implant (zeranol) and frame size on weight and compositional gain, and plasma hormone concentrations. Angus, Charolais X Hereford and Hereford X Angus yearling steers (34 steers averaging 270 kg body weight) were randomly assigned to treatments of small (SF) vs large frame (LF) and implant (I) vs no implant (NI). Steers were implanted at 0 and 97 d and individually fed an 81% whole shelled corn and 11.5% corn silage-based diet (dry basis) for a 175-d period. Shrunk weights and body measurements for frame size determination were taken initially and at approximately 28-d intervals; blood was collected via venipuncture at 14-d intervals for analyses of insulin (IN), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and glucose concentrations. Steers were also counted in a whole body counter for measurement of 40K content and prediction of whole body protein and fat. The I steers showed an improvement (P less than .05) in daily gain regardless of frame size for the total trial. The I LF steers required 18% more dry matter to attain higher daily gain for 97 to 175 d; I steers were more efficient (P less than .05) at converting dry matter to gain during 0 to 97 d and 0 to 175 d. Daily fat deposition was increased (P less than .05) in I steers, while protein deposition was not affected by I. Plasma IN concentrations were numerically elevated (P less than .10) in I steers regardless of frame size, during the initial 97 d. Implant did not influence (P greater than .10) plasma T3, T4 and glucose concentrations regardless of frame size. Steers responded differently to zeranol implant over time regarding plasma T4 concentrations (P less than .003). Steers differing in frame size responded similarly in rate of gain, in feed conversion and in patterns of plasma insulin concentrations to zeranol implants.  相似文献

Prepubertal Friesian heifer calves (n = 24, initial BW = 195 +/- 5 kg) were assigned to a 2 x 2 factorial block design and used to evaluate the effects of daily GH treatment (0 or 15 mg/d) at either a low or a high feeding level in a 5-wk treatment period on endocrine measurements, hormone receptors, muscle growth, and overall performance. In the pretreatment period, a low feeding level was employed for all calves. During the treatment period, animals at the low feeding level had free access to a roughage-based mixture, whereas animals at the high feeding level had free access to a concentrate mixture and were offered 2 kg/d of the roughage-based mixture. Blood samples were collected weekly starting 3 wk before treatment. Longissimus (LM) and supraspinatus (SS) muscles were obtained at slaughter. Metabolizable energy intake was 81% higher, digestible CP intake was 140% higher, and ADG was 115% higher (all P < 0.001) at the high vs. low feeding level. Feed (DMI, ME, and protein) intake was not affected by GH treatment, but ADG was 18% higher (P < 0.13) in GH-treated than in control heifers at both feeding levels. Although of different magnitudes, the muscle anabolic effects of GH treatment and high vs. low feeding level were additive, and both treatments increased carcass weights (P < 0.02 and P < 0.001, respectively), LM (P < 0.05 and P < 0.001), and SS (P < 0.06 and P < 0.003). The anabolic effect of GH treatment was similar in both muscles, whereas the effect of feeding level was most pronounced in LM. Overall, GH treatment increased plasma GH, IGF-I (both P < 0.001), and IGFBP-3 (P < 0.02); however, GH treatment increased total IGF-I, free IGF-I, and IGFBP-3, and decreased IGFBP-2 mainly at the high feeding level (GH x feeding level interaction; P < 0.02, 0.01, 0.03, and 0.10, respectively). The high feeding level increased insulin, free and total IGF-I, and IGFBP-3 (all P < 0.001), but decreased GH and IGFBP-2 (both P < 0.001). High feeding increased type-1 IGF receptor density (P < 0.02), mainly in LM, in accordance with the largest anabolic response in this muscle, whereas GH treatment had no effect on type-1 IGF receptors. The results suggest that in skeletal muscle, the anabolic effects of exogenous GH are related to endocrine changes in the GH-IGF axis, whereas the effects of feeding level also seem to rely on IGF receptor density in the muscles.  相似文献

Four German Shepherd Dogs from a litter of 10 were evaluated because of postnatal onset of proportionate growth stunting that clinically resembled well-documented hypopituitary dwarfism in that breed. Although 2 pups had histologic evidence of hypopituitarism, the remaining 2 pups had normal serum growth hormone concentration and adrenocorticotropin secretory capability, and normal adrenal function test and thyroid function study results. Furthermore, the initially stunted German Shepherd Dogs grew at a steady rate until at 1 year, body weight and shoulder height approximated normal measurements. Seemingly, delayed growth in these pups may represent one end of a clinical spectrum associated with hypopituitarism in German Shepherd Dogs.  相似文献

Changes in muscle growth, calpastatin activity, and tenderness of three muscles were assessed in 20 callipyge and 20 normal wether lambs slaughtered at live weights (LW) of 7, 20, 36, 52, and 69 kg. At 24 h postmortem, the longissimus (LM), semimembranosus (SM), and supraspinatus (SS) muscles were removed and weighed and samples were obtained for calpastatin activity (CA; 24 h) and Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBS; aged 6 d). For muscle weights and calpastatin activity, the weight group x muscle x phenotype interaction was significant (P < 0.05). Muscle weights were similar (P > 0.05) between phenotypes for all three muscles at 7 kg LW. At 20 kg LW, the LM and SM muscles from the callipyge lambs were heavier (P < 0.05) than those from normal lambs; however, the SS did not differ (P > 0.05) between phenotypes at 7, 20, or 52 kg. From 20 to 69 kg LW, the LM and SM weights were 42 and 49% heavier (P < 0.05) for callipyge than for normal lambs. Calpastatin activity of the callipyge LM was greater (P < 0.05) than that of normal LM at 36, 52, and 69 kg. In the callipyge LM, CA was similar (P > 0.05) at 20, 36, and 52 kg LW and did not differ (P > 0.05) from 7-kg or 69-kg values. Calpastatin activity declined (P < 0.05) across the growth curve for the SM and SS, but values were higher (P < 0.05) in the SM in callipyge than in normal lambs. Shear force values of the LM were lower (P < 0.05) for normal lambs at 36, 52, and 69 kg LW than for callipyge lambs. In the SM and SS, WBS values decreased (P < 0.05) across the growth curve, but values were higher (P < 0.05) for callipyge lambs in the SM only. These data indicate that the selective muscular hypertrophy of the callipyge phenotype develops during the postnatal growth period between 7 and 20 kg LW (19 and 100 d of age). Longissimus and semimembranosus muscles in the callipyge lambs were over 40% heavier from 20 to 69 kg LW; however, they also had higher levels of calpastatin activity and Warner-Bratzler shear force during this time period, indicating the need for postmortem tenderization treatments to improve palatability.  相似文献

Background: The interaction of the gut microbiota with key metabolic and physiological processes may be associated with poor growth outcomes in animals born with intrauterine growth restriction(IUGR).Results: Growth performance, plasma hormone concentrations, and intestinal microbiota composition were analyzed in IUGR pigs and in normal birth weight(NBW) pigs when the NBW pigs reached 25, 50, and 100 kg of body weight(BW). Compared to NBW pigs, IUGR pigs had lower initial, weaned, and final BW, and lower average daily gain and average daily feed intake in all the considered time points. In the 25 kg BW group, IUGR pigs had higher concentrations of plasma ghrelin and pancreatic polypeptide(PP), but lower insulin concentration than NBW pigs, while the situation was reversed in the 50 kg BW group. As compared to NBW pigs, IUGR pigs had higher microbial alpha diversity in the jejunum and ileum;in the 50 and 100 kg BW groups, IUGR pigs had higher Firmicutes abundance but lower Proteobacteria abundance in the jejunum, and lower Lactobacillus abundance in the jejunum and ileum;in the 25 kg BW group, IUGR pigs showed higher unclassified Ruminococcaceae abundance in the ileum;and in 25 and 50 kg BW groups, IUGR pigs showed lower Ochrobactrum abundance in the jejunum.Spearman's correlation revealed that Lactobacillus was negatively correlated with growth performance, while unclassified Ruminococcaceae was positively correlated. Predictive metagenomic analysis detected significantly different expression of genes in the intestinal microbiota between IUGR and NBW pigs, suggesting different metabolic capabilities between the two groups. Conclusions: Growing-finishing IUGR pigs showed lower growth performance, higher microbial alpha diversity, and differences in plasma hormone concentrations compared to NBW pigs. Alterations in the abundance of Firmicutes,Proteobacteria, Ruminococcaceae, Lactobacillus, and Ochrobactrum in the small intestine may be associated with IUGR, and may therefore serve as a future target for gut microbiota intervention in growing-finishing IUGR pigs.  相似文献
