1. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Arcobacter spp. isolated from different species of retail poultry meat in Iran.

From August 2012 to April 2013, a total of 540 raw poultry meat samples from chicken (n = 100), turkey (n = 100), quail (n = 100), partridge (n = 80), duck (n = 50), ostrich (n = 60) and geese (n = 50) were purchased from randomly selected retail outlets in Shahrekord, Isfahan, Sari and Rasht, Iran.

Using culture techniques, 71 of 540 poultry meat samples (13.1%) were positive for Arcobacter spp. The highest prevalence of Arcobacter spp. was found in chicken meat (28.0%), followed by quail (12.0%), duck (11.4%), turkey (11.0%), geese (8.0%), partridge (7.5%) and ostrich (3.3%) meat. The number of A. butzleri isolated from poultry meat samples (90.1%) was significantly higher than A. cryaerophilus (7.1%) and A. skirrowii (2.8%). Significantly more poultry meat samples were found to contain Arcobacter spp. by the PCR assay than by the culture method.

4. Susceptibilities of Arcobacter isolates were determined for 14 antimicrobial drugs using the disk diffusion method. All of the 71 Arcobacter isolates tested were resistant to one or more antimicrobial agents. Resistance to cephalothin and vancomycin (95.8%) was the most common finding, followed by resistance to methicillin, azithromycin and ampicillin. All Arcobacter isolates were susceptible to gentamicin, streptomycin, tetracyclin and kanamycin.

5. The results of this study indicated the importance of poultry meat, especially chicken meat, as potential sources of Arcobacter spp. infection in people. Furthermore, the strains indicated resistance to a broad spectrum of antibiotics.  相似文献

On several occasions in 1987 Australian meat was reported by overseas countries to contain unacceptable levels of pesticide residues. Investigations revealed that the residues were mainly the organochlorine compounds DDT, dieldrin and heptachlor, the concentrations of which exceeded the maximum residue limits. The organochlorines had accumulated in the soil of farms where they were used annually, or more frequently, owing to their long half-life in soils, and grazing animals had accumulated the pesticides in their adipose tissues. Removing the animals to non-contaminated pastures did not reduce the residue levels for some time because their half-lives in the adipose tissues ranged from two to three months. When the problem was recognised action was taken by the Commonwealth Department of Primary Industries and Energy and the relevant Departments of the States and the Northern Territory to identify the affected properties and animals. The affected farms were quarantined and the animals detained until the residue levels were depleted adequately. The use of DDT was banned and dieldrin and heptachlor were permitted to be used only for the control of termites in buildings. Following this action the proportion of samples of beef with residue levels above the permitted limits decreased from 0.42 per cent in 1986/87 to 0.22 per cent in 1987/88.  相似文献

Sulfamethazine (SMZ) is an antibacterial drug used in approximately 75% of all hogs marketed in the U.S. The tolerance for residues of SMZ in uncooked tissues is .1 ppm, and the withdrawal time is 15 d. The rate of illegal residues in swine from the use of SMZ has continued to fluctuate between 4% and 5% from 1980 through 1987. This was not acceptable. The Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) also has received from the National Center for Toxicological Research a report showing that SMZ produces a dose-related increase in follicular cell adenomas of the thyroid gland in rats and mice. The FDA has discovered three major causes of SMZ residues by investigating violators. The number one cause was a lack of sequencing, flushing, and cleaning of mixer equipment. Failure to follow withdrawal times was another major cause, and the third major reason was the use of a soluble powder solution. At least 16% of SMZ residue violations have resulted in no follow-up due to lack of animal identification. The FDA district offices are conducting on-farm investigations of swine producers who have caused SMZ violations. Repeat violators and those that produce higher residue levels will receive a higher priority. The FDA currently is attempting to obtain more state support, particularly for investigation of first-time violators. The CVM is serious about resolving the SMZ residue problem.  相似文献

Clostridium difficile was isolated from 1.8% (7/393) of retail pork samples obtained from 4 Canadian provinces. Five ribotypes and 3 toxinotypes were identified. Three isolates were indistinguishable from the international outbreak strain ribotype 027 and were toxinotype III. Although the implications for food safety practices remain elusive, the frequency of toxigenic isolates and isolates indistinguishable from known human pathogenic strains suggests contaminated pork may be a source of C. difficile in humans.  相似文献

为了了解食源性病原沙门菌在肉鸡产业链中的流行情况及其耐药性现状。本研究从上海某肉鸡屠宰加工企业分别采集待宰肉鸡、屠宰胴体和市售鸡肉样品388、200、127份,并参照GB/T4789.4-2010和PCR法进行沙门菌的分离鉴定。结果显示,共获得沙门菌73株。待宰肉鸡、屠宰胴体和市售鸡肉分别获得沙门菌9、48和16株,分离率依次为2.32%、17.5%和8.66%。采用微量肉汤稀释法测定分离菌株对12种抗菌药物的敏感性。药敏结果显示,所有菌株至少耐两种药物。其中对复方新诺明和多西环素的耐药率最高,分别为100%和95.89%;头孢唑啉、阿莫西林/克拉维酸、氯霉素、氨苄西林、萘啶酸的耐药率也均超过了40%,而对头孢噻呋、头孢曲松、庆大霉素、美罗培南的耐药率相对较低。结果表明,该地区肉鸡源沙门菌的耐药情况较严重,亟需加强养禽业抗菌药物的合理应用;同时沙门菌流行情况也对改进肉鸡屠宰加工工艺,降低沙门菌的污染提出了要求。  相似文献

In spite of several quality control procedures used by Australia to ensure the wholesomeness of export meat, a number of pesticide residue violations were identified in the Australian product exported to the USA in May 1987. The pesticides involved were the organochlorines, dieldrin and heptachlor. The problems were caused by the persistence of organochlorines in soils and their illicit use or contamination of storage facilities. Animals grazing contaminated pasture, ingesting contaminated feed or held in contaminated yards over a period, bioaccumulated residues in their adipose tissues which eventually exceeded maximum residue limits (MRL) and caused violations. Though there was no immediate public health risk, the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) of the Commonwealth Department of Primary Industries and Energy (DPIE), acted expeditiously to determine and eliminate the factors causing these problems, which threatened Australia's beef export industry worth in excess of two billion dollars annually. An overall strategic plan, "The Integrated Action Plan", was formulated and implemented by AQIS with the assistance of the relevant Departments of the States and the Northern Territory (NT), meat processing and export industries and livestock producer bodies. As a result of this action, the likely sources of contamination were identified and controlled. The National Residue Survey (NRS) was enhanced, a National Residue Data Base (NRDB) was established and a centralised computer system interactive with abattoirs, laboratories and animal health authorities developed. The cattle farm identity tail tag system already in place, capable of tracing cattle to the farm of origin was refined and trace back systems for sheep and pigs were utilised.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

利用酶联免疫法对猪肉中的磺胺类药物残留进行检测,结果表明:该方法的灵敏度为1μg/L,最低检测限为1.5μg/kg;向空白样本中添加浓度为100、200μg/kg磺胺标准品时,平均回收率范围为76.1%~101.7%,变异系数为4.6%~11.9%;利用该方法与液相色谱-串联质谱法检测实际样本,其阴、阳性判断结果一致。该法灵敏准确、重复性好、特异性高,适用于对猪肉中15种磺胺类药物进行多残留检测。  相似文献

Sulfonamide residues in the livers of wholesome carcasses of Canadian pork were monitored over the six year period ending March 31, 1985. The annual rate of violative residues decreased from 9.92% to 2.75% over the course of the six years. At present the incidence of violation in the livers is 2.35% and there is no significant difference within the various regions of Canada. This would result in a muscle violative rate of 0.8%.

The only sulfonamide found at violative levels was sulfamethazine. All violative samples were within the range 0.11-4.00 ppm. Over the period of the survey the incidence of violations at all levels decreased. Violations at higher levels decreased most rapidly resulting in a continuous reduction of the mean level in violative samples.

The use of antimicrobial agents in poultry production results in their accumulation in the body tissues and products such as milk and egg. The subsequent accumulation of these drugs and their metabolites in body cells is known as drug residue. This study was designed to determine the prevalence of antimicrobial residues in eggs from poultry farms and retail outlets in Enugu State, Nigeria. Eggs from 25 selected commercial farms and ten retail outlets were screened for the prevalence of antimicrobial residue. Also, structured questionnaires were administered to 25 commercial farms in the state to determine the management practices and the most widely used antimicrobial drugs in farms and possible association between the management practices and the occurrence of antimicrobial residues in eggs from these farms. All the 25 farms surveyed use oxytetracycline. Eggs from nine of the surveyed farms tested positive for antimicrobial residue and three of the ten surveyed farms also tested positive for antimicrobial residue. No association was observed (p 0.05; Fisher’s exact test) between the occurrence of antibiotic residues in eggs and farm size, feed source and housing systems. This study was able to demonstrate the presence of antimicrobial residues in eggs destined for human consumption. Drugs like nitrofurans which has been banned for use in food animals are still very much in use in Enugu State, Nigeria. Antibiotics given as feed additives may give rise to drug residues in food animals.  相似文献

One‐hundred‐twenty crossbred pigs finished at 175–185 days of age were used to investigate the effects of live weights at slaughter on the meat quality, volatile flavor compounds, and sensory attributes of pork meat. Based on the live weights at slaughter, three weight groups (n = 36 per group) were classified as follows: light weight (LW: 100 kg), medium weight (MW: 110 kg), and heavy weight (HW: 120 kg). After slaughter, longissimus dorsi muscle samples were taken and used for the analyses of aforementioned parameters. The HW group had higher fat content and water holding capacity compared to the LW or MW group (< 0.05). The HW group also showed higher levels for majority of unsaturated fatty acids and total polyunsaturated fatty acids than the LW group (p < 0.05). The slaughter weight significantly affected the amounts of 11 among the 47 flavor compounds identified. Significantly higher amounts of fatty acids oxidation‐derived flavor compounds (aldehydes) were found in the HW group than in the other groups. Noticeably, increasing slaughter weight was associated with higher sensorial scores for flavor, juiciness, and acceptance scores (p < 0.05). Based on the obtained results, 120 kg body weight is recommended as the market weight for this commercial breed without compromising the meat quality.  相似文献
