Data were analysed on weed biomass from untreated plots in 2672 field experiments conducted in spring- and autumn-sown cereal and oilseed crops in Sweden 1972–1992. The coefficient of variation (CV) among years in the biomass of annual weeds per square metre was 29% in autumn-sown crops. In spring-sown crops, which had less weed biomass, the corresponding value was 49%. The biomass of summer annuals varied most (105%). Low winter temperatures seemed to increase the biomass of weeds in autumn-sown crops. In spring-sown crops, weed biomass production was higher in years with high rainfall during late spring. Partial ordination (pCCA) of weed data indicated that the interannual variations in autumn-sown crops were mainly manifested by the occurrence of summer annuals. Results from similar ordination of data from spring-sown crops were partly explained by the occurrence of winter annuals.  相似文献

The effects of take-all, nitrogen and cropping sequence on grain yield were compared for spring barley and spring wheat grown in extended monoculture. Initial crops showed least take-all and maximum yields. Yields fell to a minimum more rapidly in wheat than in barley while the take-all intensity increased to a maximum; take-all decline occurred and yields improved from the 4th and 5th years respectively. Without nitrogen, yields were at their lowest level; application of nitrogen increased yields considerably with responses in proportion to the rate applied. At optimum rates, yield losses were 33% for wheat and 11% for barley with maximum disease intensity but only 9% and 3% respectively with take-all decline. Potential maximum yields in the absence of take-all were calculated to be greater with barley than with wheat.  相似文献

In four field experiments begun in 1963, each of four herbicides was applied to plots planted wilh the same crop each year. The annual treatments were: MCPA at 17 kg/ha to barley (Hordeum sativa Jess) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) at growth stage 15. tri-allate at 17 kg/ha pre-emergcnce to barley and wheat, simazine at l7kg/ha pre-emergence to maize (Zea mays L.) and linuron in two applications of 084 kg/ha pre- and post-emergence to carrots (Daucus carota L.). MCPA did not affect growth or yield of either barley or wheat. In general tri-allate also did not aftect the crops although wheat yield was depressed in 1978, wheat 1000 grain weight was reduced in 1972 and barley germination percentage was increased in 1973. Simazine did not influence the height, yield or appearance of maize. Linuron normally produced no effect on carrot yield, density and size. However, in 2 years when the post-emergence application was late, density but not yield was lower than in control plots. There was no accumulation of residues of any of these compounds in the soil. Rates of loss were similar to those predicted on ihe basis of laboratory experiments. In a fifth experiment these herbicides were applied twice per year (3 times in the case of linuron) at double the rales above on each occasion to bare plots. These applications ceased in 1968 (1969 for MCPA) but residues were monitored until 1972 except in the case of MCPA. Disappearance rates were similar to those in the cropped plots and residues were largely confined to the top 10 cm. The plots treated with MCPA had developed an enhanced ability lo degrade il prior to 1968. This persisted for 5 years after the final application.  相似文献

Methazole [2-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazolidine-3,5-dione] was applied post-emergence at 2-1 kg/ha to crops of onion (Allium cepa L.) grown on a sandy loam and the activity present in the surface 0–5 cm of soil assessed by bioassay. In spring-sown crops, activity at harvest varied from 25 to 78% of the initial acitivity in different years; losses were restricted by low temperature and low rainfall. In autumn-sown crops, little loss occurred during winter and most of the activity remained in the surface 0-5 cm. The results emphasize the need for caution in choice and timing of following crops.  相似文献

Avena fatua was sown in a cultivation experiment in the autumn of 3 successive years. For each population seedling emergence and viable seeds in the soil were recorded for 4 years in crops of winter barley in which new seed production was prevented. About half of the seeds sown were recovered after 1 year. In subsequent years viable seeds in the soil declined more rapidly with tine cultivation than with ploughing. After 4 years up to 5% of the original seeds were still viable. One population exhibited greater seed dormancy than the other two populations, due it is thought to higher summer rainfall and the greater availability of moisture during seed maturation. Most seedlings emerged in the autumn and spring, between 12 and 18 months after sowing. A total of 950 seedlings emerged from 12 000 seeds sown; 21% of these seedlings came from new seeds (< 1 year old), 57% from seeds 1–2 years old, 14% from seeds 2–3 years old and 8% from seeds 3–4 years old. Autumn seedlings arose fairly evenly from all age groups while spring seedlings mostly came from the 1–2-year-old seeds. With tine cultivation total seedlings over 4 years represented 9–7% and with ploughing 6–2% of the original seeds sown. A. fatua was more persistent than in previous experiments in spring barley, which suggests that control measures would have to be applied for longer in a succession of winter cereals than spring-sown crops to reduce A. fatua to low populations.  相似文献

More than 200 species of weeds are infesting main crop fields in China, among which approximately 30 species are major weeds causing great crop yield losses. About 35.8 million hectares of crop fields are heavily infested by weeds and the annual reduction of crop yields is 12.3–16.5% (weighted average). Along with rural economic development, approximately 50% of the main crop fields undergo herbicide application. Chemical weed control has changed cultural practices to save weeding labor in rice, wheat, maize, soybeans and cotton. At the same time, continuous use of the same herbicides has caused weed shift problems and weed resistance to herbicides. Consequently, integrated weed management in main crops is being developed.  相似文献

We investigated the damage and yield loss caused by two rodent species, Arvicanthis niloticus and Mastomys (Praomys) natalensis, in cereal crops in fields near Kano, northern Nigeria from August, 1990 to April, 1992. Using the random cluster technique, we selected 100 clusters of 30 hills in each rice and wheat field, and assessed damage fortnightly, using the Cut Tiller Count method. In premature crops, damage increased from tillering stages to the dough stages. Differences in the percentages of damage (yield loss) in mature rice (4.8% in 1990 and 12.6% in 1991) and in wheat (30.0% in 1991 and 21.7% in 1992) were statistically significant between years. Severe yield losses in wheat, compared to low and moderate levels in rice (grown for the most part during the rains), were probably a result of greater consumption of the wheat, grown entirely by irrigation during the dry season when other rodent food sources were less abundant. Results of ANOVA showed significant effects of developmental stage of the crop, year of cultivation, and their interactions on the magnitude of crop damage.  相似文献

Summary. The average air-dry yield of weeds on fallow plots was about four times as large (2660 kg/ha) as the yield of weeds which developed among spring cereal crops (740 kg/ha). Application of fertilizers increased the number of weeds and their average weight on both irrigated and non-irrigated plots. Treatment with MCPA reduced the weed yield to 36% on fallow plots and to 26% on weedy cereal plots. It was more effective on fertilized plots than on unfertilized plots, but irrigation made little difference to its effectiveness. The space left by the destroyed weeds was mainly occupied by Agropyron repens . Oats were better able to compete with weeds than were wheat and barley. On unfertilized and non-irrigated plots spraying with MCPA (1-26 kg/ha) at the beginning of shooting significantly reduced the yields of weed-free barley. The yields of sprayed oats and wheat were also below the yields from the unsprayed although the reductions were not significant at the 5% level. However, on a number of fertilized and irrigated plots, both weedy and hand-weeded , on which the plants had better growing conditions, MCPA resulted in a significant increase in the grain yield of barley and oats.

Narrow-leaved hawk's-beard (Crevis tectorum L.) occurs in all provinces of Canada, but is particularly abundant in the northern portions of the agricultural regions of the three prairie provinces and British Columbia. The losses in yield in terms of quantity and quality due to narrow-leaved hawk's-beard were investigated in fields of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) used in the dehydration industry and in experimental plots. The effect of hawk's-beard on creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) seed yield in the Peace River Region of British Columbia was also investigated. In the lucerne, the average percentage of hawk's-beard in the total biomass over the 3 years of the study was only 2?5%, with a minimum of 1?2% in one year and a maximum of 5?5% in another year. In the lucerne vs hawk's-beard plots, yields on plots free of hawk's-beard were not significantly higher than on those with hawks'-beard. Although excellent control was achieved in creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) by the use of the herbicide 2, 4-DB, yields of seed were not significantly increased. Therefore, narrow-leaved hawk's-beard seems to be an excellent colonizer but a weak competitor and contributed little to crop losses in lucerne and creeping red fescue.  相似文献

Summary The effectiveness of crop competition for better weed control and reducing herbicide rates was determined for Avena ludoviciana and Phalaris paradoxa . Four experiments, previously broadcast with seeds of the two weeds in separate plots, were sown with three wheat densities, and emerged weeds were treated with four herbicide doses (0–100% of recommended rate). The measured crop and weed traits were first analysed across experiments for treatment effects. Grain yield and weed seed production data were then analysed using cubic smoothing splines to model the response surfaces. Although herbicide rate for both weeds and crop density for P. paradoxa had significant linear effects on yield, there was a significant non-linearity of the response surface. Similarly, herbicide rate and crop density had significant linear effects on weed seed production, and there was significant non-linearity of the response surface that differed for the weed species. Maximum crop yield and reduction in seed production of P. paradoxa was achieved with approximately 80 wheat plants m−2 and weeds treated with 100% herbicide rate. For A. ludoviciana , this was 130 wheat plants m−2 applied with 75% herbicide rate. Alternatively, these benefits were achieved by increasing crop density to 150 plants m−2 applied with 50% herbicide rate. At high crop density, application of the 100% herbicide rate tended to reduce yield, particularly with the A. ludoviciana herbicide, and this impacted adversely on the suppression of weed seed production. Thus, more competitive wheat crops have the potential for improving weed control and reducing herbicide rates.  相似文献

Surveys of 528 randomly selected commercial fields in England and Wales in 1983 showed that isolates of Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides resistant to benomyl were common and widespread on winter wheat and winter barley. During June and July resistant strains were recovered from 16 to 66% of fields and the proportion of resistant isolates was 37–52%. The frequency of occurrence of resistant isolates was positively correlated with the number of applications of carbendazimgenerating (MBC) fungicides during the previous 8 years. Benomyl resistance was found in 21–48% of fields where it was claimed that MBC had never been used, and 7–28% of isolates from those fields, were resistant. Resistance was more frequent in R-type than in W-type isolates of the pathogen. The proportion of R-type isolates decreased as the number of previous winter wheat crops rose and increased with the number of winter barley crops grown and with the number of MBC sprays applied to crops in previous years. The implications of these findings for the control of eyespot in England and Wales are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Twenty-seven different herbicides were tested at the AUB Agricultural Research and Education Center in the Beqa'a, Lebanon, to determine their effects on weeds in wheat, barley, maize, onion and sugar beet. Each herbicide was tested at three different rates as pre-emergence and post-emergence applications. Unweeded and hand-weeded check plots were included. Data on yield, quality and other agronomic characteristics of the crops tested were recorded.

Concentrations of 1,000 and 10,000 ppm of 2, 4–D caused a significant decrease in the height and grain yield of wheat and barley when sprayed at the 3-leaf stage. At the 5-leaf stage, injury to wheat and barley occurred only when sprayed at 10,000 ppm, whereas an increase in the grain yield was obtained at 1,000 ppm of 2, 4–D acid equivalent (1 kg a.i./ha).

Pre-emergence treatments of atrazine and simazine at 2.5 kg a.i./ha caused a significant increase in the forage and grain yields of maize as compared to unweeded check plots. Wheat, oats, vetch and sugar beet were injured when planted after triazine-treated maize, whereas onions and soyabeans were tolerant. Other promising herbicides tested on maize were C 3095 (N–3–trifluoromethylphenyl–N'–methyl–N'–methoxyurea) and BV– 201 (1–(3′, 4′–dichlorophenyl)–3–methylpyrrolidin–2–one) applied as a pre-emergence spray at 1 and 2 kg/ha respectively.

Pre-planting treatment of EPTC and pre-emergence treatment of pebulate at 2 kg/ha gave a slight increase in the yield of roots of sugar beet. BV–201 and BV–207 (1–(3–chloro–4–methylphenyl)–3–methylpyrrolidin–2–one) were phytotoxic to beet.

In onions, nitrofen, BV–201 and BV–207 at 1–2 kg/ha were promising as pre-emergence and post-emergence sprays. DNOC and dinoseb at 1.5 kg/ha and ioxynil at 0.5 kg/ha sprayed post-emergence increased the yield of onions significantly over the check. No significant effects of these herbicides were observed on the bulb index, moisture content and total soluble solids of onions.  相似文献

Relationships between take-all intensity and grain yield and quality were determined in field experiments on cereal crops using regression analyses, usually based on single-point disease assessments made during anthesis or grain-filling. Different amounts of take-all were achieved by different methods of applying inoculum artificially (to wheat only) or by using different cropping sequences (in wheat, triticale or barley) or sowing dates (wheat only) in crops with natural inoculum. Regressions of yield or thousand-grain weight on take-all intensity during grain filling were similar to those on accumulated disease (area under the disease progress curve) when these were compared in one of the wheat experiments. Regressions of yield on take-all intensity were more often significant in wheat than in the less susceptible crops, triticale and barley, even when a wide range of disease intensities was present in the latter crops. The regressions usually had most significance when there were plots in the severe disease category. Thousand-grain weight and hectolitre weight usually responded similarly to total grain yield. Decreased yield was often accompanied by a significant increase in the percentage of small grains. When severe take-all was present in wheat, regressions showed that nitrogen uptake was usually impaired. This was sometimes accompanied, however, by increased percentage nitrogen in the grain as a consequence of smaller grain size with decreased endosperm. Significant effects of take-all, both positive and negative, on Hagberg falling number in wheat sometimes occurred. Significant regressions of yield on take-all assessed earlier than usual, ie during booting rather than grain-filling in wheat and triticale and during anthesis/grain-filling rather than ripening in barley, had steeper slopes. This is consistent with observations that severe disease that develops early can be particularly damaging, whilst the crops, especially barley, can later express tolerance by producing additional, healthy roots. The regression parameters, including maximum potential yield (y-axis intercept) and the extrapolated maximum yield loss, also varied according to the different growing conditions, including experimental treatments and other husbandry operations. These differences must be considered when assessing the economic potential of a control measure such as fungicidal seed treatment.  相似文献

For evaluation of soil residues of ethofumseate [(±)2-ethoxy-2,3-dihydro-3,3-dimethylbenzofuran-5-yl-methylsulphonate], spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were sown in soil planted 11 months previously with sugar-beet (Beta vulgaris L.) and previously treated with band or broad-cast applications of the herbicide at rates of 1.68-4.48 kg/ha. The height of barley and wheat was suppressed only where ethofumesate was applied broadcast and the soil was not ploughed after sugar-beet harvest. Three months after sowing, the 4.48 kg/ha rate suppressed the height of barley 18% and wheat 34%. In another experiment, barley grew normally on soil treated the previous year with pre-planting and post-emergence applications of ethofumesate where ploughing followed sugar-beet harvest. For all treatments, yields of straw and grain were not significantly lower than those of the untreated check plots. The dissipation of ethofumesate 24 weeks after application to sugar-beet was 89–100% when applied on a band compared to 85-95% when applied broadcast.  相似文献

Information on temporal and spatial variation in weed seedling populations within agricultural fields is very important for weed population assessment and management. Primarily, spatial information allows a potential reduction in herbicide use, when post‐emergent herbicides are only applied to field sections with high weed infestation levels. This paper presents a system for site‐specific weed control in sugar beet, maize, winter wheat, winter barley, winter rape and spring barley. The system includes on‐line weed detection using digital image analysis, computer‐based decision making and Global Positioning System‐controlled patch spraying. In a 2‐year study, herbicide use with this map‐based approach was reduced in winter cereals by 6–81% for herbicides against broad leaved weeds and 20–79% for grass weed herbicides. Highest savings were achieved in cereals followed by sugar beet, maize and winter rape. The efficacy of weed control varied from 85% to 98%, indicating that site‐specific weed management will not result in higher infestation levels in the following crops.  相似文献

Reduction of the dose of MCPA/mecoprop and MCPA/fluroxypyr mixtures to half or one-third of the recommended rates still provided good weed control efficacy in spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and particularly in spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L). The average yield of treated plots was 8% higher in wheat and 1% higher in barley compared with untreated plots. However, yield reductions were observed in 32% of wheat plots and in 43% of barley plots treated with herbicides. The yield responses were poorly correlated with the weed density of mixed weed flora at the time of spraying. No reliable threshold density for chemical weed control was found. Die Ertragsbildung stand kaum in Beziehung zur Unkrautdichte zur Zeit der Behandlung. Es wurde keine verläßliche Schadensschwelle gefunden.  相似文献

A survey of grass weeds in cereals in nine areas of central southern England was made in summer 1981 with the primary purpose of determining the importance of Bromus sterilis. A total of 1477 fields of winter wheat, 715 of winter barley and 434 of spring barley were assessed by visually scoring the whole field for grass flower heads. In all, 19 species were found; their levels of infestation were scored. In winter cereals the most frequent species were Avena spp. in 32% of fields. Agropyron repens in 24%, Poa trivialis in 22% and Alopecurus myosuroides in 19%. Bromas sterilis was next most frequent in 9%. In spring barley the two most frequent species were Agropyron repens in 53% of the fields and Avena spp. in 52%. The third most frequent was Alopecurus myosuroides in 1 1%. Bromus sterilis was recorded in 12% of winter wheat and 4% of winter barley crops, but did not occur in spring barley. Of the 206 fields where it was present it occurred throughout the field in only 82 and it was confined to the headlands in the remainder.  相似文献

In Northern Europe, inter-row hoeing has become a popular tactic for controlling weeds in organic cereals. Hoeing is highly effective and can be implemented from crop emergence until stem elongation to maintain a nearly weed-free inter-row zone. However, hoeing has a lesser effect on weeds growing in the intra-row zone, where crop–weed proximity results in heightened competition. In the hoed cereal system, it is investigated whether tall-growing, competitive, cruciferous weeds in the intra-row zone affect crop biomass, yield and thousand kernel weight (TKW). An additive experimental design is employed to enable the fitting of rectangular hyperbolas, describing and quantifying the effects of increasing intra-row surrogate weed density on crop growth parameters. Regressions were studied under the influence of crop (spring barley and spring wheat), row spacing (narrow [12.5 or 15.0 cm] and wide [25.0 cm]) and nitrogen rate (50 and 100 kg NH4-N/ha). Cruciferous surrogate weeds were found to impact crop yield and quality severely. For example, ten intra-row plants/m2 of surrogate weed Sinapis alba reduced grains yields by 7%–14% in spring barley and by 7%–32% in spring wheat with yield losses becoming markedly greater in wheat compared to barley as weed density increases. Compared to wheat, barley limited yield and quality losses and suppressed intra-row weed growth more. Row spacing did not have a consistent effect on crop or weed parameters; in one of six experiments, the 25 cm row spacing reduced yields and increased intra-row weed biomass in wheat. Nitrogen rate did not affect crop or weed parameters. Results warrant the implementation of additional tactics to control intra-row weeds and limit crop losses.  相似文献

Summary. The effect of winter wheat, winter rye, winter barley, spring barley, and fallow cultivated as for a winter cereal, on germination and growth of wild oats ( A. fatua ) was investigated on a naturally-infested field. Treatments were continued for 2 years on the same plots and in the third year all plots were cropped with spring barley. Wild oats were not allowed to shed seeds.
A. fatua was controlled by a dense crop of an autumn-sown cereal. The crop genus was unimportant provided it grew well on the site; its effectiveness depended on its density when the wild oats germinated in spring. Winter wheat and winter rye were equally effective. Even in a light crop of barley, wild oats grew much less vigorously than on the fallow plots. Beyond a certain crop density dependent on soil fertility, further increase in crop did not decrease the size of wild oats. The heaviest crop did not completely suppress the wild oats.
The crop affected the wild oats mainly by decreasing growth of the seedlings, but under winter wheat and winter rye some wild oat seeds may have remained dormant, germinating in the spring barley in the third year, perhaps because the crops decreased the soil moisture content. Nitrogenous fertilizer increased the weight of both crops and wild oats. Barley was more severely affected by soil acidity than wild oats and on acid areas of barley plots the wild oats were larger than where the pH was higher. In wheat and rye which were scarcely affected by soil acidity the size of the wild oat plants was unaffected by soil pH.

Plasmodiophora brassicae, causal agent of clubroot of crucifers, poses a serious threat to Canadian canola production. The effects of fallow (F) periods and bait crops (clubroot‐susceptible canola (B) and perennial ryegrass (R)) on clubroot severity and P. brassicae resting spore populations were evaluated in five sequences: R–B, B–R, R–F, B–F and F–F. Both host and non‐host bait crops reduced clubroot severity in a subsequent crop of a susceptible canola cultivar compared with fallow. Resting spore and P. brassicae DNA concentrations decreased in all treatments, but were lowest for the R–B and B–R bait crop sequences. In addition, two studies were conducted in mini‐plots under field conditions to assess the effect of rotation of susceptible or resistant canola cultivars on clubroot severity and P. brassicae resting spore populations. One study included three crops of susceptible canola compared with a 2‐year break of oat–pea, barley–pea, wheat–wheat or fallow–fallow. The other study assessed three crops of resistant canola, two crops of resistant canola with a 1‐year break, one crop of resistant canola and a 2‐year break, and a 3‐year break with barley followed by a susceptible canola. The rotations that included non‐host crops of barley, pea or oat reduced clubroot severity and resting spore concentrations, and increased yield, compared with continuous cropping of either resistant or susceptible canola. Growing of a susceptible canola cultivar contributed 23–250‐fold greater gall mass compared with resistant cultivars.  相似文献
