Worldwide, gibberellic acid (GA3) is used routinely to increase fruit number and size of seedless mandarins. The efficacy of seven combinations of GA3 concentrations and application times to maximize total yield and yield of commercially valuable fruit (diameter 57.2–76.2 mm) of ‘Nules’ Clementine mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) was determined in a commercial orchard. GA3 applied during the period of intense flower abscission failed to reduce the total number of abscised flowers in both the light off- and heavy on-bloom years. No GA3 treatment reduced fruit abscission when trees were setting the low yield off-crop. However, all trees receiving GA3 in the high yield on-crop year had fewer abscised fruit than untreated control trees (P = 0.0188) and GA3 applied 10 days after 75% petal fall and in July increased the number of fruit retained on tagged branches >20% compared to control trees (P = 0.0005). Maximum air temperature was not related to flower or fruit abscission. In the off-crop year (548 fruit per untreated control tree), it was necessary to apply 15 or 25 mg L−1 GA3 at 60% bloom, 90% bloom, 75% petal fall and 10 days after 75% petal fall to significantly increase the number of fruit per tree and yield of commercially valuable fruit (kilograms and number per tree) (P < 0.0001) above that of control trees, with no reduction in total kilograms per tree. In the following on-crop year, it was better not to apply GA3: no treatment increased total yield or fruit size and five of seven GA3 treatments tested reduced total yield as kilograms and number of fruit per tree (P = 0.0003). The results provide strong evidence that GA3 efficacy is crop load-dependent and dictate that crop load should be considered when using GA3 to increase fruit set or fruit size of mandarins.  相似文献

This study evaluates the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3) in inducing parthenocarpy in ‘Algerie’ loquat, as well as the optimum treatment conditions and associated techniques, hand thinning and ringing, to produce seedless fruit with high enough quality for fresh consumption. GA3 applied in the course of the phenological growth stages 504–508 of the BBCH-scale produced seedless fruits, with the magnitude of the response depending on the concentration applied and number of treatments. Percentage of panicles bearing seedless fruitlets significantly increased with increasing GA3 concentrations up to 100 mg l−1 and significantly and positively correlated with the number of treatments applied. Trees treated three times with 100 mg l−1 developed more than 90% of panicles bearing almost 7 seedless fruits per panicle, which were smaller in size, drier and slightly acid but similar in TSS concentration and skin colour than seeded fruits from untreated trees. Fruit thinning to 3 fruits per panicle did not increase seedless fruit size, but ringing performed at the onset of cell enlargement stage, growth stage 702 of the BBCH-scale, significantly increased fruit size by 12–15%, depending on the year. Trees treated three times with 100 mg l−1 of GA3 and ringed produced 26 kg, on average, of seeded fruit of suitable commercial quality.  相似文献

The application of gibberellic acid during flower bud induction significantly reduced flowering of ‘Black Diamond’ and ‘Black Gold’ Japanese plums. The response depended on the concentration applied and on the type of shoot. Mixed shoots had a similar response in both varieties, flowering being reduced by 40% for GA3 50 mg l−1 and by 75–90% for GA3 75 mg l−1 or higher concentration. With regard to spurs, GA3 50 mg l−1 reduced flowering intensity by 40% and 25% in ‘Black Gold’ and ‘Black Diamond’, respectively, and GA3 75 mg l−1 or higher concentration reduced flowering by 70% and 50%, respectively. This partial inhibition of flowering significantly reduced the cost of manual thinning. The best GA3 concentration was found to be 50 mg l−1, since it reduced the cost of thinning by 45–47% and increased final fruit weight by 7–33% for ‘Black Diamond’ and ‘Black Gold’, respectively. Not significant differences in yield and in mature fruit characteristics of treated trees were found compared to untreated trees.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Gibberellic acid (GA3) at 25, 50, and 100 mg-L?1 and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) at 20, 40, and 80 mg-L?1 were sprayed to runoff on flower panicles of 15-year-old lychee trees one week after panicle emergence. Trees sprayed with water only were used as the control. The number of male flowers was increased quadratically by NAA compared to the control in 2000, and 2001. The number of hermaphrodite flowers functioning as female (HF-F) and the number of hermaphrodite flowers functioning as male (HF-M) was reduced quadratically by all concentrations of NAA both years. The greater the NAA concentration, the greater the reduction. The total number of flowers was also reduced by all NAA concentrations both years. Fruit set (percentage of total HF-F flowers) was reduced quadratically by NAA in 2001, but had no effect in 2000. The number of male flowers was increased quadratically by GA3 both years. Regression analysis also showed a positive relationship between GA3 and HF-F flowers both years. However, hermaphrodite flowers functioning as male (HF-M) was reduced quadratically by GA3 both years. In addition, the total number of flowers and fruit set was increased quadratically by GA3 both years. GA3promotion of male flowers, HF-F production, and increased fruit set may have important bearing on yield improvement.  相似文献

The application of gibberellic acid during the flower bud induction period significantly reduced flowering in peaches and nectarines. The magnitude of the response significantly depended on the total amount of active material applied per tree. Results show, for cultivars tested, a higher sensitivity of peach to GA3 in comparison with nectarine. Concentrations of 0.5 or 1.0 g tree−1 of gibberellic acid reduce flowering by about 50% in both, peaches and nectarines, respectively, and it gives rise to a reduction of costs of hand thinning by 50%, approximately, without affecting the yield. Fruit colour advanced, total soluble solids concentration increased and fruit firmness increased as a consequence of treatments. The effect was higher in the basal part of the shoots and reduced from the base to the apical part.  相似文献

Despite problems of low fruit set, small fruit size and alternate bearing, the Hass cultivar dominates commercial avocado production worldwide. To increase yield and fruit size, gibberellic acid (GA3) (25 mg L−1) was applied at different stages of ‘Hass’ avocado tree phenology: (i) mid–late April (flower abscission), end of June–beginning of July (fruit abscission and beginning of the exponential phase of fruit growth), and mid-January (beginning of pre-harvest fruit drop); (ii) end of June–beginning of July; and (iii) mid-September (near the end of the major fruit abscission period; period of exponential fruit growth). In both years of the research, applications of GA3 in April and June–July were within the periods of intense flower and fruit abscission, respectively; fruit abscission was low in September and January. Maximum air temperature was not related to flower or fruit abscission. In the on-crop year (391 fruit per untreated control tree), a single application of GA3 at the end of June–beginning of July significantly increased total yield (kilograms only) and yield of commercially valuable fruit (178–325 g/fruit) (as kilograms and number per tree) compared with the control (P < 0.0001). GA3 applied in September increased total yield (kilograms only) and yield of commercially valuable fruit (kilograms and number per tree) to values intermediate to and not significantly different from all other treatments, except trees receiving multiple applications of GA3. This treatment reduced total yield and yield of commercially valuable fruit (kilograms and number per tree) relative to all treatments (P ≤ 0.0002). In contrast, during the off-crop year (32 fruit per control tree), no GA3 treatment had a significant effect on yield or fruit size compared with the control and all other GA3 treatments. For ‘Hass’ avocado, there was no negative effect from applying GA3 at the end of June–beginning of July in both the off- and on-crop years; 2-year cumulative total yield and yield of commercially valuable fruit were increased by 27 kg (128 fruit) and 22 kg (101 fruit) per tree, respectively, above the yield of untreated control trees (P < 0.0001).  相似文献

Shoot induction ability of explants of herbaceous peony was investigated in semisolid MS medium containing BA, TDZ and GA3. Callus was readily induced from stem without node and petiole explants within 2 days of culture but failed to generate shoots. Adventitious shoots were successfully produced from meristematic regions only: bud eyes on nodal stem sections, and junctions of petioles and petiolules. No shoots were induced from internode sections, petiole without junctions, or leaf sections. Nodal sections were the most efficient explants. There were up to 20 shoots in one explant generated within 20 days of culture. TDZ was more effective than BA to induce shoots. The 100% shoot induction rate was obtained in medium containing 0.1–3 mg L−1 of TDZ. However, higher concentrations of TDZ inhibited shoot elongation and only large leaf clusters were produced. Combinations of BA and TDZ failed to increase shoot induction rates but caused shoots shorter. The 2–60-min pretreatment of explants with 20 mg L−1 TDZ solution was very effective to induce adventitious shoots directly, but both shoot number and shoot length tended to decrease as treatment time increased. GA3 was beneficial for shoot and stem elongation.  相似文献

The arching and high-rack culture systems were developed and patented by Japanese rose growers. Both culture systems have bent canopies (lower bent shoots). In the arching culture system, shoots sprouting from the crown are harvested as cut flowers. However, the high-rack culture system also has a bent canopy originating from the mother stem (upper bent shoots) and flower stems sprout and is harvested at the top of each mother stem. Partitioning of photosynthates originating from bent shoots in arching and high-rack culture systems of rose production was investigated to elucidate how carbohydrates are re-allocated from the bent shoots in different culture systems of roses. At the flowering stage in both culture systems, 50–70% of 13C-photosynthates originated from bent shoots were exported to other parts within 72 h after 13CO2 feeding to the bent shoot. In the arching culture system, photosynthates from lower bent shoots were partitioned mainly to the roots and crown. Similarly, in the high-rack culture system, between 71 and 86% of the exported carbon from the bent shoots were allocated to below the point of bending (roots + crown + mother stems) and only 9–28% was allocated to flowering shoots above the point of bending. In both culture systems, photosynthate translocation from the lower bent shoot directly to flowers was low. Accordingly, bent shoots in rose plants acted as a source of photosynthates, independent of culture system. The height of the bent shoots determined for a great deal in the re-allocation of the photosynthates, and provides a partial explanation for difference in production of cut roses.  相似文献

A study on the effect of maleic hydrazide (MH) on vegetative growth, flowering and yield of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Mol) Standl.) was conducted during the rainy and summer seasons of 1979 and 1980, respectively. MH at 150 mg l?1 stimulated the elongation of the main shoot, while MH at 50 mg l?1 induced more branches per plant. Staminate flowers appeared late and at the lowest node number in control plants, whereas MH at 150 mg l?1 had a profound effect on the earliest appearance of pistillate flowers at the lowest node number. Male: female ratio was lowered with MH at 50 mg l?1 and was most effective in producing the maximum number of fruits and fruit weight per plant and ultimately the yield. GA3, NAA and ethrel did not influence yield, while MH did.  相似文献

Summary

The phenology of wild stands of strawberry guava (Psidium cattleianum Sabine) was studied at 100, 480 and 720.m over 2 years in ReÂunion Island. The shoots bore flower buds at the basal nodes, and vegetative buds at the apical nodes. Trees produced vegetative growth from September to December, flowers from November to January and fruit from February to June. Shoot growth was earlier at 100 and 720.m the first year, but were synchronized in the second year. Flowering and fruiting were also earlier at 100.m. The intervals between shoot emergence and flowering, and flowering and fruit maturity were strongly related to temperature, with base temperatures of 5.58C and 2.68C, and heat units requirements of 675 and 2,5528C.d, respectively. The number of shoots, flowers and fruit per branch varied across sites and years, unrelated to temperature. However, production was significantly higher at 720.m. Production was much lower after a hurricane. Flowering (y) was related to shoot production per branch (x) (log(y)=111.33.log(x); r2.=.0.78), whereas the fruit set rate was highly variable between trees (26±100%). The number of fruits per branch (1±6) was possibly related to poor shoot growth or fruit set, but unrelated to the timing of the phenological events. It is expected that commercial orchards would be more productive than feral stands.  相似文献

Brunonia australis R. Br (Goodeniaceae) and Calandrinia (Portulacaceae), native to Australia, are potential new flowering potted plants. This research investigated the role of daylength and growth regulators, Gibberellic acid (GA3) and paclobutrazol (Pac), to control vegetative growth, peduncle elongation and flowering of Brunonia and Calandrinia. Plants were grown under long days (16 h), short days (11 h) and 8 weeks under short day then transferred to long day (SDLDs). Plants in each daylength were treated with GA3, Pac, and GA3+ Pac. GA3 was applied as 10 μL drop of 500 mg L−1 concentration to the newest mature leaf. A single application of Pac was applied as a soil drench at 0.25 mg a.i. dose per plant. Both Brunonia and Calandrinia flowered earlier in long days but still flowered in short days, so both can be classified as facultative LD plants. Brunonia under SDLDs were more vigorous and attractive than plants under LDs while still being more compact than plants under SDs. In Brunonia, GA3 promoted earlier flowering and increased the number of inflorescences under SDs. Pac at 0.25 mg a.i. per plant applied alone or in combination with GA3 had extended flower development in Brunonia, and resulted in a reduced number of inflorescences per plant compared to the control plants. Vegetative growth of Calandrinia was similar under LDs, SDs and SDLDs, whereas GA3 application increased plant size. Pac-treated Calandrinia looked compact and attractive, and Pac application did not affect time to flower and flower number.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to observe the effects of foliar application of gibberellic acid on vegetative growth, flowering, fruiting and various disorders in ‘Chandler’ strawberry. GA3 (75 ppm) was applied to the strawberry plants either during mid-November (at fruit bud differentiation stage), or mid-February (pre-flowering stage) or at both times. Fruit under control were sprayed with tap water only. Observations were recorded on vegetative attributes like crown height, crown spread, petiole length, leaf number, leaf area; flowering and fruit set, fruit size; production of albino, malformed and button berries, total yield and marketable fruit yield and quality parameters, like juice content, TSS, ascorbic acid contents, acidity etc. Results indicated that GA3 (75 ppm) spray either during mid-November or mid-February or at both times has favourably influenced all vegetative attributes of ‘Chandler’ strawberry over control. Similarly, fruit set was increased, and production of malformed and button berries was reduced, but albinism remained unaffected. Although individual berry weight was reduced slightly, but fruit number, total as well as marketable yield was increased tremendously over control with no adverse effect on fruit quality parameters. In all, spraying GA3 both during mid-November and mid-February was much more effective in achieving the desirable results than single application of GA3 either during mid-November or mid-February.  相似文献

The effects of application method and concentration of gibberellic acid (GA3), paclobutrazol and chlormequat on black iris performance were assessed. Plants (10 cm high, 4 ± 1 leaves) were sprayed with 125, 250, 375 or 500 mg L−1 or drenched with 0.25, 0.5, 1 or 2 mg L−1 GA3. In a second experiment, the plants were sprayed with 100, 250, 500 or 1000 mg L−1 or drenched with 0.25, 0.5, 1 or 2 mg L−1 paclobutrazol. Other plants were sprayed with 250, 500, 1000 or 1500 mg L−1 or drenched with 100, 250, 375 or 550 mg L−1 chlormequat. In each experiment, the control treatment consisted of untreated plants. Results indicated that the tallest plants (37.3 cm) in the GA3 experiment were those sprayed with 250 mg L−1. The most rapid flowering (160 days after planting) occurred when a 375 mg L−1 GA3 spray was used, whereas flowering was delayed to 200 days using 1 mg L−1 GA3 drench. Drenching with 1 mg L−1 GA3 increased height of the flower stalk by 7 cm compared to the control. Though relatively slow to flower, plants drenched with 1 mg L−1 GA3 had long and rigid stalks, which were suitable as cut flowers. Number and characteristics of the sprouts were not affected by GA3. All paclobutrazol sprays resulted in leaf falcation. A 500 or 1000 mg L−1 paclobutrazol spray resulted in severe and undesirable control of plant height, drastic reduction in stalk height and weight, and delayed flowering. Plants drenched with 0.25 or 1 mg L−1 paclobutrazol were suitable as pot plants. Chlormequat reduced plant height only at the highest drench concentration, which also reduced flowering to 70%. No leaf falcation was observed with GA3 or chlormequat. Chemical names: ( ± )-(R*,R*)-beta-((4-chlorophenyl)methyl)-alpha-(1,1,-dimethylethyl)-1H-1,2,4,-triazol-1-ethanol (paclobutrazol); (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride (chlormequat).  相似文献

The formation of flower buds in Clerodendrum seems not to be affected by day length, but the development of the buds is delayed in long days. When long days were established by means of low-intensity illumination with incandescent lamps, few flowers developed and the stems elongated considerably even at a day length of 16 hours. When fluorescent lamps were used for day-length extension, short shoots with many flowers were obtained even in 24-hour days. Flower development was also delayed by gibberellic acid (GA3), but promoted by chlormequat both in short and long days. Shoot elongation was retarded by chlormequat and promoted by GA3.Plants obtained from commercial greenhouses varied considerably with respect to growth and flowering. By selection a clone was obtained which flowered richly on short shoots. Shoot elongation stopped when flowering began. A ‘negative’ selection gave rise to a clone which flowered sparsely and in which shoot elongation was not influenced by flowering.  相似文献

Blueberry can readily be shaded as a bush type plant, maybe affecting its growth and photosynthesis. Growth and photosynthetic characteristics of ‘Bluecrop’ blueberry grown under various shade levels were investigated to understand acclimation under shade conditions and to determine the optimal light conditions for agricultural purpose. Shade decreased the number of shoots per shrub, but increased shoot length. However, shade did not affect the number of leaves on the main axis. With increasing shade level, leaf length, width and area increased, but leaf thickness decreased. However, there was no obvious tendency in leaf length/width ratio with increasing shade level. Shade leaves had less dense stomata than sun leaves, but stoma was bigger in shade leaves than in sun leaves. With increasing shade level, non-photochemical quenching in blueberry leaves increased and the values were higher at low photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFDs) in shade leaves than in sun leaves, resulting in the decreases in quantum yield, electron transport rate and net CO2 assimilation rate (An). The maximum An at 31, 60, 73 and 83% shade levels was 11.8, 11.0, 8.4 and 7.5 μmol m−2 s−1, respectively. Following the slight decrease up to 100 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD, stomatal conductance (gs) linearly increased up to 600 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD and became saturated at all shade levels. The leaves of the shrubs grown under the 83% shade level had a significantly lower gs as compared to the leaves of the shrubs grown under the 31, 60 and 73% shade levels. Transpiration rate (E) linearly increased up to 600 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD and was saturated at the 73 and 83% shade levels. However, E increased linearly at both 31 and 60% shade levels with increasing PPFD. The reproductive growth characteristics such as number of flowers, fruit set rate per flower bud and fruit yield also significantly decreased with increasing shade level. For agricultural purpose, therefore, shade level above approximately 60% of full sunlight must be avoided for optimal photosynthesis and growth of the ‘Bluecrop’ blueberry.  相似文献

Effects of treatments with gibberellic acid (GA3, 50 mg L−1 for 2 h) or carbon disulphide (CS2, 25 ml m−3 for four days) on breaking of dormancy and sprouting of potato (Solanum tuberosum L., cvs Agria and Marfona) minitubers of different weight classes (0.3, 0.7 and 1.5 g) were investigated. The dormancy period tended to decrease with an increase in the weight of minitubers, whereas the number of sprouts per minituber, their length and fresh weight and the sprout mass per unit of sprout length of the longest sprout tended to increase with an increase in minituber weight. In both cultivars, applying GA3 or CS2 advanced breaking of dormancy, but GA3 was less effective in Marfona than in Agria. Advancing breaking of dormancy was associated with removal of apical dominance and therefore applying GA3 or CS2 also increased the number of sprouts per minituber, especially in Agria. In Agria, the dry matter content of sprouts from the CS2 treatment was higher than in the GA3 or control treatments, whereas in Marfona dry matter content of sprouts was highest in the GA3 treatment. The length of sprouts, fresh weight of sprouts and the sprout mass per unit of sprout length of the longest sprout were significantly enhanced by treating minitubers with GA3 or CS2 compared with the untreated control minitubers, but there were strong interactions with cultivar and minituber weight. These interactions are important in practical use of dormancy breaking methods.  相似文献

Summary

Studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of drought during flowering for both container- and field-grown trees, and during fruit development for container-grown trees, on subsequent growth, flowering, yield and quality of the custard apple ‘African Pride’ in subtropical Australia. Moderate drought (ψL=–1.5 MPa) reduced shoot growth by 20–30% and increased the number of flowers per lateral by about 40% compared with well-watered controls due to reduced apical dominance and increased lateral branching. Overall fruit set was not adversely affected by drought. Drought also increased the number of fruit harvested per tree by 47% compared with well-watered controls. This response was mainly due to the increase in flower number per tree. Drought reduced average fruit size by 11% possibly due to effects on cell division in the first 4–6 weeks after fruit set or on net carbon assimilation. In summary, mild to moderate drought during the flowering period and fruit set increased flowering without adversely affecting fruit set, but decreased fruit size.  相似文献

A protocol for clonal propagation of Rosa clinophylla, a rare and endangered species but very important for breeding purposes had been standardized through in vitro axillary bud culture. Although cytokinins alone were able to induce shoot buds, but their proper growth and number could be increased only when they were used in combination with GA3. However, there was shoot tip necrosis and leaf fall in the proliferated shoots. AgNO3 at 58.85 μM proved effective to avoid shoot necrosis and yellowing of leaves. Activated charcoal (AC) at 250 mg l−1 was found necessary at all the stages of shoot multiplication as well as rooting. Ninety percent rooting could be achieved in 1/2 MS medium supplemented with 4.92 μM IBA and 250 mg l−1 AC. Rooted plantlets were hardened and transferred to the field successfully with 80% survival rate.  相似文献

Summary

Stem yield and quality of roses for cut flower production were evaluated. The plants were grown in two planting systems as an alternative to the traditional ``vase-shaped'' system. In the trellised system, two cultivars of Rosa hybrida (cvs Gabrielle and Kardinal) were planted in a commercial glasshouse in 3.m sections of bed. Within-row spacing was varied to give 6–16 plants m–2. After a three-month establishment phase the basal shoots were bent to an angle of 308 above horizontal and restrained with a trellis wire. Flowering shoots sprouting from axillary buds along a basal shoot were harvested at their lowest node, minimizing branching. Compared with ``vase-shaped'' rose plants at the same density, trellised roses produced 24% more basal shoots, 46% more flowering shoots (cv. Gabrielle) and approximately 46% less blind shoots per plant over five months. Phenotypic variation was greater in cv. Gabrielle than in cv. Kardinal in response to within-row spacing, as indicated by the number of basal shoots formed. Within-row spacing, over the range explored, did not affect the number of flowering shoots per basal shoot. Trellising rose plants increased stem yield and quality, but production over the long-term requires further investigation. The single shoot planting system contained a mixed population of single-stemmed rose plants of Rosa hybrida (cvs Gabrielle and Gerdo). It was grown in a field over a range of within-row spacings to give 20–105 plants m–2. Over three harvests, increasing the number of plants by 10 plants m–2 reduced the proportion of flowering shoots by 4.4%. Expressed on a unit area basis, a five-fold increase in plants m–2 produced a three-fold increase in stem production.  相似文献

Soaking of bulbs in 3 concentrations of indoleacetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA3), 2-chloroethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (cycocel) or 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (ethrel) showed various responses on growth and flowering. IAA increased the weight and number of bulblets, GA3 increased bulb weight. Cycocel (1000 mg l?1) increased the number of flowers, while GA3 increased the diameter of the flowers.Application of IAA at 100 mg l?1 and GA3 at 10, 100 or 1000 mg l?1 twice as foliar spray at an interval of 30 days promoted the number of bulblets on the treated plants, while high concentrations of cycocel and ethrel (1000 mg l?1) increased the weight of bulblets. All concentrations of IAA, GA3 and 1000 mg l?1 cycocel increased the number and size of the flowers.  相似文献
