Salicornia is a new vegetable crop that can be irrigated with highly saline water, even at salt concentrations equivalent to full-strength seawater. During leafy vegetable cultivation, the onset of the reproductive phase is an undesired phenomenon that reduces yield and quality and prevents year-round cultivation. Knowledge about the regulation of floral induction in the members of the tribe Salicornieae, however, is lacking. To establish year-round cultivation, we studied the flower induction of five Salicornia and two Sarcocornia varieties. Plants were grown under two day lengths, 13.5 h and 18 h, and harvested by a repetitive harvest regime. A 13.5-h day length prevented flower induction in the Israeli Salicornia varieties, but a longer day length was required to prevent flower induction in two species originating from more northern latitudes. The onset of the reproductive phase under suboptimal short day length conditions severely reduced vegetative growth and yields in Salicornia. In Sarcocornia, the repetitive harvest regime prevented flowering, making it a promising candidate for year-round cultivation. Irrigating the plants with full-strength seawater (electrical conductivity 48 dS m−1) vs. water with moderate salinity (electrical conductivity 10 dS m−1) did not change the general flowering pattern of the studied Salicornieae members.  相似文献

There has been recent market interest in “baby” salad greens. However, little information exists on the nutritional differences between immature “baby” greens and produce traditionally sold at the fully mature stage. Kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala D.C.) contains high levels of lutein and β-carotene, which possess important human health properties. Kale was grown in a controlled environment and pigments were measured in young (<1 week), immature (1–2 weeks), mature (2–3 weeks), fully developed (3–4 weeks) and senescing (>4 weeks) leaves using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Significant differences were observed for all pigments during leaf development. Pigment accumulation followed a quadratic trend, with maximums occurring between the 1st and 3rd week of leaf age. The highest concentrations of lutein measured 15.1 mg/100 g fresh mass and occurred in 1–2 week old leaves. The remaining pigments reached maximum levels at 2–3 weeks (β-carotene at 11.6 mg/100 g; chlorophyll a at 251.4 mg/100 g; and chlorophyll b at 56.9 mg/100 g fresh mass). Mature fully expanded kale leaves accumulated higher carotenoid concentrations than immature or “baby” leaves, with senescent leaves having the lowest carotenoid concentrations. Harvesting kale leaves at a mature stage of development resulted in maximum carotenoid values. Cultural management practices that increase carotenoid concentrations would be expected to improve nutritional quality for fresh markets.  相似文献

The role of drought-induced proline accumulation in coconut leaves is still unclear. With the objective of evaluating the impact of water shortage on leaf osmotic potential, proline accumulation and cell membrane stability in young plants of two Brazilian Green Dwarf coconut ecotypes from contrasting areas (Brazilian Green Dwarf from Una, Bahia, UGD, and from Jiqui, Rio Grande do Norte, JGD), a pot experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions. Three drought cycles consisting of suspension of irrigation until the net photosynthetic rate (A) approached zero and rewatering until recovery of A to 85% of the irrigated control plants. Pre-dawn leaf water potential (ΨPD) reached −1.2 MPa at the point of maximum stress (PMS). Dry matter production and leaf area were severely reduced by drought treatment in the two ecotypes. Corrected values of osmotic potential were significantly reduced in stressed plants of the two ecotypes. Green dwarf coconut palm showed low osmotic adjustment (from 0.05 to 0.24 MPa) and significant accumulation of proline (from 1.5 to 2.1 times in relation to control) in leaflets in response to water deficit. Considering the growth reduction observed in both ecotypes, proline was not associated to osmoregulation. On the other hand, the absence of membrane damage, as indicated by electrolyte leakage method, suggests that the protective role of proline in this specie can be more important. The two ecotypes of Green dwarf coconut palm behaved similarly in the present experiment for most traits evaluated. Slight differences among the ecotypes were observed with respect to the response to treatments, such as higher proline accumulation in JGD.  相似文献

Increasing use of recycled water that is often high in salinity warrants further examination of irrigation practices for turfgrass health and salinity management. A study was conducted during 2011–2012 in Riverside, CA to evaluate the response of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) ‘SR 4550’ turf to varying quality and quantity of irrigation water. A modified line-source sprinkler irrigation system provided a salinity gradient (ECw ∼0.6–4.2 dS m−1) in between lines. Irrigation was scheduled in four separate irrigation zones perpendicular to the irrigation lines according to 80, 100, 120, and 140% ETo. Changes in turf quality (R2 = 0.30***), were primarily driven by the number of days that the area had been irrigated with saline water. When data were separated by irrigation amount, both time and water quality accounted for 54% and 46% of the variability (P < 0.001) in quality and cover, respectively at 80% ETo. A model was created to quantify decline in turf quality in relationship to %ETo replacement and salinity accumulation in the rootzone (R2 = 0.57). Our results suggest that perennial ryegrass requires irrigation scheduling at 140% ETo, irrigation water quality below ECw ∼1.7 dS m−1, and ECe below 3.8 dS m−1 to maintain acceptable quality for 442 d in Riverside, CA.  相似文献

Data on the growth-promoting effects of Azospirillum on lettuce exposed to either normal or saline conditions, is scarce. Lactuca sativa L., cv Mantecosa seeds were colonized with A. brasilense Sp245 cells during imbibition. Germination percentages were determined after 7 d treatments with 0, 30, 50 or 80 mol m−3 NaCl. In another experiment, seeds germinated in Hoagland were irrigated for 30 d with 0, 30, 50 or 80 mol m−3 NaCl supplemented media. Vegetative growth proceeded in a growth chamber with a 13–11 h day–night cycle. Buffer-imbibed seeds were considered non-inoculated controls. Plant samples were taken at 0, 14, 20, and 30 d after the onset of NaCl treatments and dissected in aerial and root portions. The weights of both tissues were measured. Azospirillum-inoculated seeds had significantly higher germination percentages than controls in all treatments. Inoculated dried seeds stored up to 30 d maintained such characteristic in most of the treatments, particularly at 80 mol m−3 NaCl. Plants grown from inoculated seeds and irrigated with saline media displayed higher total fresh and dry weights and biomass partition to the aerial portion, than non-inoculated controls. Azospirillum-inoculated lettuce seeds had better germination and vegetative growth than non-inoculated controls after being exposed to NaCl.  相似文献

An experiment was carried out in a young high-density olive grove (556 plants ha−1Olea europaea L., cv Coratina) located in Southern Italy to evaluate the effect of different soil water availability on the vegetative and productive performances of olive trees also looking into the quality of the resulting oils. Trials were carried out over a 3-year period on trees subjected to irrigation and grown under rainfed conditions. Vegetative tree response, as shoot elongation and trunk diameter, was evaluated. Yield per plant, fruit characteristics, oil quality indices (free fatty acid content, peroxide value, UV adsorption at 232 and 270 nm, total phenols, α-tocopherol content) were determined for both irrigated and non-irrigated treatments in the ‘on’ years 1997 and 1999 (6th and 8th year after planting, respectively).  相似文献

In this study we have examined the effects of irrigation with municipal secondary-treated effluents on growth of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) and celosia (Celosia argentea var cristata L.) plants for cut flower production. The applied treated effluents contained higher levels of Na (∼X6), Cl (∼X4.5), N–NH4 (30–50 mg/l), B, HCO3, P, K, and Fe than the potable water. The effect of the two types of irrigation water on the chemical composition of soil and leaves, flower yield and postharvest performance was examined. Our results demonstrate higher accumulation of Cl, Na, B, and NO3 in soils irrigated with effluents as compared to potable water only in the 40–60 cm soil layer. Phosphorus accumulated to higher levels in the upper soil layer (0–20 below ground), as well as in the lower soil layer, irrigated with effluents. SAR levels as well, were higher under irrigation with the treated effluents in the soil until 40 cm below ground indicating higher Na absorption in comparison to Ca and Mg. In both sunflower and celosia, boron accumulated to higher levels in leaves of plants irrigated with effluents. In addition, under irrigation with effluents, celosia accumulated higher levels of N and Mn and sunflower higher levels of P and lower levels of Fe. Despite these differences in mineral contents, the quality of the irrigation water did not affect cut flower yield. In both species spike length, receptacle size, number of flowers and flower weight were not affected. However, flowers’ quality, examined during vase life, was compromised by irrigation with the effluents. Celosia leaves appeared more yellow and sunflower petal edges became browner. Nevertheless, leaf yellowing in celosia occurred mainly on the lower leaves of the stem, which can be removed to maintain high commercial value. The reduction in sunflower quality as well, will most likely not pose any commercial problem since these negative symptoms appeared at a late stage of vase life. Overall, our results demonstrate that secondary-treated municipal effluents can be used for production of sunflower and celosia for cut flowers, in the northern-eastern part of the ‘Negev’ desert in Israel. Due to the high SAR values of the water, and in order to avoid damage to the soil structure, dilution of this water should be considered for commercial growth.  相似文献

Annual plant species have great potential on green roofs as many are highly attractive, fast and cheap to establish via sowing and can provide rapid cover and growth, which is important for ecosystem service provision. While irrigation is essential for survival and growth of annual plants in seasonally hot or dry climates, it is also important to minimize water use as availability is often limited. Therefore, we evaluated how irrigation frequency affects plant cover, species abundance, richness and diversity, plant traits and functional diversity of a 16 species mixture of Australian annual species (4 g m−2 ~ 2100 seeds m−2) sown onto thirty 0.25 m2 green roof modules. The experiment was carried out in Melbourne, Australia, from January (summer) to July (winter) 2020. After a 2-month irrigated establishment phase (to ensure germination and seedling establishment), three irrigation treatments (2, 4 and 6 days between irrigation) were applied to the modules for three months. Plant cover was reduced at lower irrigation frequency (6 days), but ≥ 80% plant cover was achieved in all irrigation treatments. There was no effect of irrigation frequency on species abundance and richness; however, abundance, richness and diversity reduced over time, likely due to competition effects. Plant height and leaf area were also reduced by lower irrigation frequency. At the community level, functional diversity was unaffected by irrigation frequency. Our results indicate that green roofs sown with a mixture of annual plants can achieve good plant coverage, as recommended by green roof guidelines, and maintain high diversity when minimally irrigated in their first growing season.  相似文献

The growth of crop plants on full-strength seawater constitutes a major challenge because of the high salt content and the limited availability of essential microelements such as molybdenum. For cultivation of the halophyte Salicornia as seawater-grown crop, the effect of molybdate application on total yield production and the activities of the two molybdenum containing enzymes, nitrate reductase (NR) and xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) was investigated. Increasing molybdate levels in the growth medium supplemented with nitrate or ammonium enhanced yield during multiple shoot removal. Similarly, NR and XDH activities were enhanced with increasing molybdate, indicating that the activity of both enzymes may play an important role in facilitating yield accumulation. Notably, XDH activity in the roots was high and the levels of ureides were low, whereas in the shoot tips ureides were higher and XDH activity was lower. Considering that XDH is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of the low C/N ratio ureides, these suggest a source–sink relationship between the roots and shoot tips for efficient transport of root-generated ureides to the young growing shoot tips. Our results imply that the supply of molybdenum to Salicornia grown in seawater enhances plant biomass accumulation by increasing the activities of NR and XDH, thereby stimulating a more efficient remobilization of ureides to the newly grown shoot tips after periodic shoot removal.  相似文献

Three greenhouse experiments were carried out to determine the growth, yield, nitrate, total N and S concentration in shoots, and water uptake of hydroponically grown Brassica rapa L. subsp. nipposinica var. chinoleifera and Brassica juncea L. In each experiment, daily photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) level was 5.0 mol m−2 (low), 6.8 mol m−2 (medium) or 9.0 mol m−2 (high). Plants were supplied with nutrient solutions having equal N concentrations of 11 mM in different forms: 100% NH4, 50% NH4 + 50% NO3, and 100% NO3. Nitrogen supplied as 100% NH4 reduced fresh and dry shoot biomass, leaf area, and leaf number in both Brassica species, especially at low and medium PAR levels. In both Brassica species, S concentrations were highest, while nitrate concentrations were lowest in leaves of plants grown at N supplied as 100% NH4. No differences in leaf nitrate concentrations were observed between 50% NH4 + 50% NO3 and 100% NO3 treatments. Low and high PAR levels increased the nitrate concentrations and decreased the N/S ratio in leaves of both crops compared to medium PAR level. Fresh shoot biomass was maximized in Brassica rapa when PAR level was above the medium value and nitrate was supplied in the nutrient solution as NO3 or as a mixture of 50% NO3 and 50% NH4. The highest fresh shoot biomass of Brassica juncea was observed in all nutrient solution treatments at high PAR level.  相似文献

The effect of different fertilisation (i.e. broadcast application and fertigation) and irrigation practices (tank sprinkler and drip irrigation) on yield, yield quality (nitrate content), nitrogen uptake of white cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) and the potential for N losses was assessed on sandy-loam agricultural soil. 15N-labelled fertiliser was used as a tracer. It was found that different practices significantly affected yield, nitrate content in plants, N uptake, as well as fertiliser use efficiency. The highest yield (93 t ha−1), plant N uptake (246 kg ha−1), and fertiliser use efficiency (42%) were obtained under treatment with broadcast fertilisation with farmer's practice of irrigation (tank sprinkler). The N surplus after harvest was −41 kg N ha−1, indicating the lowest potential for N losses. Treatment by fertigation and drip irrigation covering 100% of the crop's water requirements did not result in the highest yield as expected (72 t ha−1), the N surplus after harvest was about +38 kg ha−1. The lowest yield (58 t ha−1), fertiliser use efficiency (30%) and hence the highest potential for N losses (N surplus after harvest +68 kg ha−1) were found in treatment with broadcast fertilisation and drip irrigation covering 50% of the crop's water requirements.  相似文献

Protected horticultural crops as well as those planted in open fields particularly in the Mediterranean region have to cope with increasing salinization of irrigation water. High salinity of the supply water has detrimental effects on soil fertility and plant nutrition and reduces crop growth and yield. This study was conducted to determine if pre-inoculation of transplants with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi alleviates salt effects on growth and yield of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. Cv. Marriha) when irrigated with saline water. Tomato seeds were sown in polystyrene trays with 20 cm3 cells and treated with AM fungi (AM) or without (nonAM) Glomus mosseae. Once the seedlings were reached appropriate size, they were transplanted into nonsterile soil in concrete blocks (1.6 m × 3 m × 0.75 m) under greenhouse conditions. The soil electrical conductivity (ECe) was 1.4 dS m−1. Plants were irrigated with nonsaline water (ECw = 0.5 dS m−1) or saline water (ECw = 2.4 dS m−1) until harvest. These treatments resulted with soil EC at harvest 1.7 and 4.4 dS m−1 for nonsaline and saline water treatments, respectively. Root colonization with AM fungi at flowering was lower under saline than nonsaline conditions. Pre-inoculated tomato plants with AM fungi irrigated with both saline and nonsaline water had greater shoot and root dry matter (DM) yield and fruit fresh yield than nonAM plants. The enhancement in fruit fresh yield due to AM fungi inoculation was 29% under nonsaline and 60% under saline water conditions. Shoot contents of P, K, Zn, Cu, and Fe were higher in AM compared with nonAM plants grown under nonsaline and saline water conditions. Shoot Na concentrations were lower in AM than nonAM plants grown under saline water conditions. Results indicate that pre-inoculation of tomato transplants with AM fungi improved yield and can help alleviate deleterious effects of salt stress on crop yield.  相似文献

In the northeast of Brazil the drought period determines the yield period of the sugar apple (Annona squamosa L.). As a result, the use of irrigation is essential to stagger production over the course of the year. The results shown here represent an analysis of water status levels in sugar apples in daylight and seasonal periods in semi-arid regions. Two plant groups were studied: one without irrigation and the other with irrigation during drought months. This study showed that younger leaves displayed greater stomatal conductance and transpiration. In drought months, even in irrigated plants, the high air moisture deficit had a strong influence on the stomatal closure, which did not translate into a reduction in transpiration. Over the same period, the leaf water potential was −1.8 and −2.9 MPa at mid-day in irrigated and non-irrigated plants, respectively, and only the irrigated plants could recover their leaf hydration level at night. With a water deficit, plants showed greater control of transpiration through stomatal closure, with a linear relationship between stomatal conductance and transpiration.  相似文献

Impatiens walleriana ‘DeZire’ and Petunia × hybrid ‘Tidal Wave’ were subjected to a combination of water stress and exposure to wind to evaluate the potential application of these treatments as an alternative to chemical growth retardation. Air velocities evaluated were 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.5, and 4.5 m s−1 and irrigation treatments were either control or 45% water stress based on irrigation occurring when the weight of the plant (plant, pot and peat) was reduced by 25% (control) or 45% (water stress) of the initial weight. The experiment was repeated twice; once in spring and once in summer.  相似文献

Chinese kale (Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra) and Caisin (Brassica rapa subsp. parachinensis) are leafy vegetable crops grown in south-east Asian countries where rainfall varies dramatically from excess to deficit within and between seasons. We investigated the physiological and growth responses of these plants to waterlogging and water deficit in a controlled experiment in a glasshouse. Juvenile plants were subjected to waterlogging or water deficit for 19 days in case of Chinese kale and 14 days in case of Caisin and compared with well-watered controls. Caisin tolerated waterlogging better than Chinese kale because it produced hypocotyl roots and gas spaces developed at the stem base. In Chinese kale, waterlogging reduced plant fresh weight (90%), leaf area (86%), dry weight (80%) and leaf number (38%). In contrast, waterlogging had no impact on leaf number in Caisin and reduced plant fresh and dry weights and leaf area by 60–70%. Water deficit reduced leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight of both species by more than half. Leaf number in Chinese kale was reduced by 38% but no effect occurred in Caisin. Water deficit increased the concentration of nitrogen in the leaf dry matter by more than 60% in both species and the leaf colour of water deficient plants was dark green compared with the leaf colour of well-watered plants. Soil water deficit delayed flowering of Caisin while waterlogging accelerated it. Thickening and whitening of the cuticle on the leaves of Chinese kale probably increased its ability to retain water under drought while Caisin adjusted osmotically and Chinese kale did not. Waterlogging and water deficit had strong effects on leaf gas exchange of both Brassica species. Water deficit closed the stomata in both species and this was associated with a leaf water content of 9 g g−1 DW. In contrast, waterlogging reduced conductance from 1.0 to 0.1 mol H2O m−2 s−1 in direct proportion to changes in leaf water content, which fell from 11 to 5 g g−1 DW. This separation of the effects of water deficit and waterlogging on conductance was reflected in transpiration, internal CO2 concentration and net photosynthesis. In conclusion, Chinese kale and Caisin showed rather different adaptations in response to waterlogging and water deficit. Caisin was more tolerant of waterlogging than Chinese kale and also showed evidence of tolerance of drought. There is genetic variation to waterlogging within the Brassica genus among the leafy vegetables that could be used for cultivar improvement.  相似文献

Peroxidases (EC 1.11.1.7) were extracted from fresh cladodes harvested from nine ecotypes of the cactus species Opuntia ficus indica Mill. growing as a collection, in Marrakech (South Morocco). Two enzyme fractions were obtained by a progressive solubility method leading to soluble peroxidases (S) and ionically wall-bound peroxidases (I). The preferred substrate for cladode peroxidases was determined to be o-dianisidine over 4-chloro-1-naphtol and guaiacol. Contrarily to roots, no guaiacol-based activity was found in cladodes. The late ecotypes 1‘Haddaouia’ and ‘Moussa’ showed a relatively high peroxidase ratio S/I (units g−1 fresh weight). When subjected to electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gels, S and I peroxidase fractions each exhibited two enzyme forms based on their electric charges in basic and acidic gel media. Acidic peroxidase forms, well separated on basic gels, showed two principal migration zones with great differences in their enzyme activities depending on the fraction types S and I. Acidic ionically wall-bound peroxidases exhibited fast, highly active isoforms with Rf values 0.42–0.58. Basic forms, represented essentially in fractions S and resolved on acidic gels, were typified by slow and fast isoforms with a double banded pattern in most ecotypes. Opuntia ecotypes collected from localities surrounding Marrakech exhibited fast basic soluble isoforms, while distant ecotypes from Marrakech, including late ones, were typified by a fast acidic ionically bound isoperoxidase of Rf 0.58. Possible roles of O. f. indica peroxidases in growth and their evaluation as markers in this cactus species are discussed in this study.  相似文献

The genus Ptilotus has immense potential for ornamental horticulture but its commercial development has been hindered by propagation limitations. Poor seed quality and germination are reported. Cutting propagation is limited by cutting supply as the juvenile phase of Ptilotus is short. Micropropagation has been used in an attempt to overcome these difficulties but explants become floral in vitro and this causes plantlets to elongate. Ethephon has been used to control flowering of stock plants of many ornamental species. This study investigated the effect of ethephon applied to young (3-week-old, deflasked from tissue culture) and mature (1-year-old) Ptilotus plants in a greenhouse. A system of applying gaseous ethylene at 0, 100, 200 and 300 mg l−1 to the headspace of in vitro plantlets in glass jars was developed and the response of in vitro plantlets to ethylene studied. One-year-old Ptilotus plants were treated with 500 mg l−1 ethephon 2 days before pruning or 1 or 2 weeks after pruning. Ethephon application 2 days before pruning decreased the number of inflorescences and increased the number of shoots (compared to the control) but was phytotoxic. Ethephon applications of 150 or 300 mg l−1 applied weekly or fortnightly to 3-week-old plants deflasked from tissue culture reduced plant height and number of inflorescences and at low concentrations increased the number of new shoots. A fortnightly application at 150 mg l−1 is recommended. Previous reports on the effects of ethylene on inflorescence production on plantlets in vitro are limited. Our study showed that exposure of in vitro plantlets of P. nobilis to ethylene gas at 100 mg l−1 for 1 h significantly increased the number of shoots and plant height but this did not occur for plantlets of P. spicatus. Plantlets of P. spicatus exposed to transient ethylene at 200 and 300 mg l−1 showed significantly greater rooting (52.4%) than the control (13.6%).  相似文献

Most plants benefit from mycorrhizal symbiosis through improvement of water status and nutrient uptake. A factorial experiment with complete randomized blocks design was carried out in greenhouse at Tabriz University, Iran in 2005–2006. Experimental treatments were (a) irrigation interval (7, 9 and 11 days), (b) soil condition (sterile and non-sterile) and (c) arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) species (Glomus versiforme, Glomus intraradices, Glomus etunicatum) and non-mycorrhizal (NM) plants as control. Onion (Allium cepa L. cv. Azar-shahr) seeds were sown in sterile nursery and inoculated with fungi species. One nursery left uninoculated as control. Nine weeks old seedlings then were transplanted to the pots. Average pre-irrigation soil water contents reached to about 67, 61.6 and 57.5% of FC corresponding to 7, 9 and 11 days irrigation intervals, respectively. At onion bulb maturity stage (192 days after transplanting), yield, water use efficiency (WUE) and yield response factor (Ky) were determined. The results indicated that AMF colonization increased soil water depletion significantly. G. versiforme under both soil conditions (sterile and non-sterile) and G. etunicatum in sterile soil depleted soil water effectively (P < 0.05). Mycorrhizal fungi improved WUE significantly (P < 0.0001) in both soil conditions. It raised by G. versiforme about 2.4-fold (0.289 g mm−1) in comparison with the control (0.117 g mm−1). G. intraradices and G. etunicatum also had significantly higher WUE than control. Apparently water deficit in 11-day irrigation interval led to lower yield and WUE compared to 9-day interval; the later resulted highest WUE (0.254 g mm−1). Mycorrhizal plants increased seasonal ET significantly due to enhancing in plant growth; G. versiforme in both sterile and non-sterile soil and G. etunicatum in sterile soil had the highest ET. Bulb yield was influenced by irrigation period and fungi species. G. versiforme produced higher yield than other treatments (135.27 g/pot). Mycorrhizal plants in 11-day irrigation interval in spite of suffering from water stress had more bulb yield than non-mycorrhizal plants in all irrigation intervals. Yield in general was higher in 9-day treatments than other irrigating internals significantly (P < 0.05). Onion yield response factor (Ky) was decreased by AMF colonization; implying that symbiosed plants become less responsive to water deficit (longer irrigation interval) compared to the control ones.  相似文献

Total fresh and dry weight of Capsicum chinense fruit accessions were inversely correlated with accumulation of dry matter, and fruits with a higher percentage of dry matter accumulated proportionally more total soluble solids. Based on regression analysis, a 1% increase in fruit dry weight was associated with a 0.28% improvement in total soluble content, up to a maximum total soluble solid content of 10.25%. Regardless of shape, larger fruits had thicker pericarps, and were therefore more suitable for open air fresh markets. Smaller fruits had thinner pericarps and higher concentrations of total soluble solids and were more appropriate for dehydration and paprika production. Dry fruits with color intensities greater than 200 ASTA units, as required for paprika production, were found in 18.4% of the analyzed accessions. A large number of accessions, close to 27%, had total capsaicinoid concentrations less than or equal to 1.9 mg g−1 dry weight, and can be considered as sweet or light pungent fruits. A small percentage of accessions (2.5%) were classified as extremely hot fruits.  相似文献

The anthocyanins, cyanidin 3-O-(6″-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-β-glucopyranoside) (1) and pelargonidin 3-O-(6″-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-β-glucopyranoside) (2), were isolated from the ornamental flowers of a Ugandan Hippeastrum cultivar by a combination of chromatographic techniques, and their structures were elucidated mainly by the use of homo- and heteronuclear nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electrospray mass spectrometry. The same anthocyanins were found in six different Hippeastrum cultivars purchased in Norway. However, the absolute amount of the anthocyanins (0.08–1.79 mg/g, fresh weight) and the relative proportions of the individual anthocyanins varied from cultivar to cultivar (13.2–96.5% of 1). The colours of the fresh petals of the three cultivars ‘Red Lion’, ‘Royal Velvet’ and ‘Liberty’ were described by the CIELab coordinates L* (lightness), C* (chroma) and hab (hue angles). All the cultivars showed hue angles corresponding to scarlet nuances (hab = 22–35°), with the highest value in ‘Red Lion’. The most reddish petals (in ‘Royal Velvet’) contained the highest relative proportion of 1. Thus, the in vivo colours of these cultivars seem to be correlated with the relative proportions of individual anthocyanin in the petals.  相似文献
