Removal of nutrients from wastewater (effluent) by sediments in cypress swamps was studied in laboratory leaching columns filled with wet surface sediments. Columns were leached with low-nutrient groundwater, treated wastewater, and treated wastewater amended with nitrate (20 to 30 mg N L?1) and phosphate (9.5 mg P L?1) for 21 mo. From 99 to 100% of the nitrate-nitrite and P was removed from the amended wastewater eluants throughout the investigation; average concentrations of nitrate-nitrite and P in effluent from amended wastewater columns did not exceed concentrations in leachate from columns eluted with groundwater. Ammonium removal was approximately 50% in columns receiving treated wastewater. Sediments of cypress swamps have a large capacity to remove nutrients from secondary effluent.  相似文献

Purpose

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of a counter-current leaching process (CCLP) on 14 cycles with leachate treatment at the pilot scale for Pb, Cu, Sb, and Zn removal from the soil of a Canadian small-arms shooting range.

Materials and methods

The metal concentrations in the contaminated soil were 904?±?112 mg Cu kg–1, 8,550?±?940 mg Pb kg–1, 370?±?26 mg Sb kg–1, and 169?±?14 mg Zn kg–1. The CCLP includes three acid leaching steps (0.125 M H2SO4?+?4 M NaCl, pulp density (PD)?=?10 %, t?=?1 h, T?=?20 °C, total volume?=?20 L). The leachate treatment was performed using metal precipitation with a 5-M NaOH solution. The treated effluent was reused for the next metal leaching steps.

Results and discussion

The average metal removal yields were 80.9?±?2.3 % of Cu, 94.5?±?0.7 % of Pb, 51.1?±?4.8 % of Sb, and 43.9?±?3.9 % of Zn. Compared to a conventional leaching process, the CCLP allows a significant economy of water (24,500 L water per ton of soil), sulfuric acid (133 L H2SO4 t–1), NaCl (6,310 kg NaCl t–1), and NaOH (225 kg NaOH t–1). This corresponds to 82 %, 65 %, 90 %, and 75 % of reduction, respectively. The Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure test, which was applied on the remediated soil, demonstrated a large decrease of the lead availability (0.8 mg Pb L–1) in comparison to the untreated soil (142 mg Pb L–1). The estimated total cost of this soil remediation process is 267 US$ t–1.

Conclusions

The CCLP process allows high removal yields for Pb and Cu and a significant reduction in water and chemical consumption. Further work should examine the extraction of Sb from small-arms shooting range.  相似文献

Use of biosolids in agriculture to improve crop production and soil quality have created concerns due to content of heavy metals that may affect surface or ground water quality. A column leaching study was conducted to evaluate the leaching potential of copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), cdmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni) from two typical agricultural sandy soils in South Florida (Spodosol and Alfisol) with increasing application of pelletized biosolids (called PB) at the rates of 0, 1.25, 5.0, 10.0 g kg?1, respectively together with chemical fertilizer (CF). Elevated PB rate resulted in reduced leaching loss of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Co, Ni from Spodosol, but resulted in increased loss of Pb, Zn, Cd, and Co from Alfisol. Significant reduction in Cu loss occurred in both soils, which can be attributed to the strong binding of Cu with organic matter from the applied PB. Percentage of Cd loss as of total Cd was 13% – 41%, the highest in all the heavy metals, whereas loss of Pb as of total Pb was less than 6.6%, though the concentrations of Pb, Cd, Co, and Ni in leachate were mostly above the limits of U.S. EPA drinking water standards or the national secondary drinking water standards. These results indicate that soil properties, PB application rates, and chemical behavior of elements jointly influence the leachate total loads of heavy metals in sandy soils applied with biosolids. Application of CF together with BP at a rate higher than 10.0 g kg?1 for sandy soils may pose potential threats to water quality due to enhanced leachate loads of Cr and Ni in Spodosol and Pb, Zn, Cd, Co and Ni in Alfisol.  相似文献

Granular activated carbon (GAC), granular activated alumina (GAA) and a ferric chloride solution (FCS) were tested for the treatment of leachate contaminated by heavy metals. The leachate was collected following the remedation of soils using weak organic acids and/or their salts, EDTA and DTPA. Only GAC was found to effectively remove heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Cr, Hg, Mn, Pb and Zn as chelates) from the leachate. At optimum pH ranging from 5.4 to 6.9, 97% of Hg was removed while at optimum pH ranging from 6.9 to 7.7, 78 to 96% of Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn were removed. Some 77% of the Cr was removed at optimum pH of 5.4. Adsorption rate constant and Langmuir adsorption capacity of GAC were found to be 0.01 min?1 and 19 mg metal chelate g?1 of GAC, respectively. Freundlich constants, k and n were found to be 21 mg g?1 and 2.778, respectively. The brown color of the leachate turned colorless after GAC treatment.

Nutrient leaching from dry (COD) and wet (COW) coffee, sisal (SIS), brewery barley malt (BEB) and sugar cane (FIC) by-products, and linseed (LIC) and niger seed cakes (NIC), and uptake by maize were studied in a pot experiment with tropical Alfisol. After three months, soils were leached to recover labile plant nutrients, and root and shoot biomass was harvested. The leachate from FIC-amended soil had the highest concentration of inorganic P (0.90 μmol L?1), whereas the highest concentrations of potassium (K) (48,088 μmol L?1) and calcium (2566 μmol L?1) were determined in leachates from COD and BEB treatments, respectively. The amendments significantly increased K uptake by maize proportional to the amount of K applied, but the effects for other plant nutrients were small. The results indicated that pre-decomposition of agro-industrial by-products may increase the nutrient release in tropical soils.  相似文献

Batch and upflow column leaching experiments were used to evaluate the nature and extent of Cu and Zn solubilization from contaminated soil by nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) in 0.025 M NaClO4. In batch soil suspensions, NTA levels of 10?5 to 10?3 M substantially promoted Cu and Zn release from the metal-enriched soil. The ability of NTA to enhance Cu and Zn solubility decreased with increasing solution acidity probably due to competitive binding of NTA by protons and Fe released by hydrous oxide dissolution. However, in the pH range typically encountered in northeastern U.S. soils, soluble metal levels were nearly constant for a given NTA concentration. Leaching soil columns with NTA solutions enhanced Cu release more than Zn, as the enrichment ratio (cumulative metal leached by NTA compared to the 0.025 M NaClO4 control leachate) after 85 pore volumes displacements was 23.6 and 4.3 for Cu and Zn, respectively. While Cu release by 0.01 M CaCl2 differed little from the control, 0.01 M CaCl2 was substantially more effective than 10?5 M NTA in displacing bound Zn. The data reflect different retention mechanisms for Cu and Zn in this soil.  相似文献

Retention of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn by Wood Ash, Lime and Fume Dust   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Heavy metals are of interest due to their deleterious impacts on both human and ecosystem health. This study investigated the effectiveness of wood ash in immobilizing the heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn from aqueous solutions. The effects of initial metal concentrations, solution pH, ash dose and reaction time on metal sorption, as well as the metal sorption mechanisms were studied. To investigate the effect of initial metal concentrations, solutions containing Cd, Zn (25, 50, 75, 100 or 125 mg L?1), Cu (25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 or 175 mg L?1) or Pb (250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250, or 1500 mg L?1) were reacted with 10 g L?1 ash for two hours. For the effect of pH, solutions containing 100 mg L?1 of Cd, Cu or Zn or 1500 mg L?1 of Pb were reacted with 15 g L?1 ash over a pH range of 4 to 7. The wood ash was effective in immobilizing the four metals with a sorption range of 41–100 %. The amounts of metals retained by the ash followed the order of Pb > Cu > Cd > Zn. As expected, absolute metal retention increased with increasing initial metal concentrations, solution pH and ash dose. Metal retention by the ash exhibited a two-phase step: an initial rapid uptake of the metal followed by a period of relatively slow removal of metal from solution. Metal retention by the ash could be described by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, with the latter providing a better fit for the data. Dissolution of calcite /gypsum minerals and precipitation of metal carbonate/sulfate like minerals were probably responsible for metal immobilization by the ash in addition to adsorption.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Split root solution culture experiments were conducted to study the effects of the rare earth element lanthanum (La) on rice (Oryza sativa) growth, nutrient uptake and distribution. Results showed that low concentrations of La could promote rice growth including yield (0.05 mg L?1 to 1.5 mg L?1), dry root weight (0.05 mg L?1 to 0.75 mg L?1) and grain numbers (0.05 mg L?1 to 6 mg L?1). High concentrations depressed grain formation (9 mg L?1 to 30 mg L?1) and root elongation (1.5 mg L?1 to 30 mg L?1). No significant influence on straw dry weight was found over the whole concentration range except for the 0.05 mg L?1 treatment. In the pot and field experiments, the addition of La had no significant influence on rice growth.Lanthanum had variable influence on nutrient uptake in different parts of rice. Low concentrations (0.05 mg L?1 to 0.75 mg L?1) increased the root copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and magnesium (Mg), and grain Cu, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), manganese (Mn), and Mg uptake. High concentrations (9 to 30 mg L?1) decreased the grain Ca, zinc (Zn), P, Mn, Fe and Mg, and straw Ca, Mn, and Mg uptake. With increasing La concentration, root Zn, P, Mn, Cu, and Ca concentrations increased, and grain Ca and Fe, and straw Mn, Mg, and Ca concentrations decreased. Possible reasons are discussed for the differences between the effects of La in nutrient solutions and in pot and field experiments.  相似文献

The leaching of heavy metals from plant growth medium, admixed with different amounts of compost (prepared from sewage sludge and yard waste) at pH 5, 6 and 7 was determined over a six-month period. Twelve-week old rhododendron cuttings were planted in 2-L containers and rainfall was supplemented with irrigation to supply two centimeters of water per day. Leachates collected over each two to four week period were analyzed for Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn using atomic spectrometry. The concentrations of Cd, Cu, Ni and Zn in the leachates increased with increasing proportions of compost in the medium and decreased with increasing time of leaching. Decreasing media pH dramatically increased the concentrations of Cd, Ni and Zn in the leachates, but had no effect on the Cu concentrations. For example, as the proportion of the compost in the pH 5 medium increased from 0 to 100 percent, the concentrations of metals (μg L?1) in the leachates collected during the first two weeks increased from 1 to 33 (Cd), 10 to 123 (Cu), 8 to 113 (Ni) and 300 to 24,000 (Zn). Corresponding increases at pH 7 were 0.4 to 0.8 (Cd), 14 to 141 (Cu), 8 to 28 (Ni) and 100 to 400 (Zn) μg L?1. The concentrations of Cr and Pb in the leachates remained below the detection limits regardless of media pH and amounts of compost.  相似文献

Seasonal variability of Cu, Pb, and Zn concentrations in litter leachates and soil solutions was examined in an afforested zone surrounding a copper smelter in SW Poland. Litter leachates (with zero‐tension lysimeters) and soil solutions (with MacroRhizon suction‐cup samplers, installed at a depth of 25–30 cm) were collected monthly at three sites differing in contamination levels in the years 2009 and 2010 (total Cu: 2380, 439, and 200 mg kg–1, respectively). Concentrations of Cu in the litter leachate were correlated with dissolved organic C (DOC), whereas Zn and Pb were mainly related to leachate pH. Metal concentrations in the soil solution were weakly influenced by their total content in soils and the monthly fluctuations reached 300, 600, and 700% for Cu, Pb, and Zn, respectively. Metal concentrations in soil solutions (Cu 110–460 μg L–1; Zn 20–1190 μg L–1; Pb 0.5–36 μg L–1) were correlated with their contents in the litter leachates. Chemical speciation, using Visual Minteq 3.0, proved organically‐complexed forms even though the correlations between metal concentrations and soil solution pH and DOC were statistically insignificant. The flux of organically‐complexed metals from contaminated forest floors is believed to be a direct and crucial factor affecting the actual heavy metal concentrations and their forms in the soil solutions of the upper mineral soil horizons.  相似文献

Recovery of valuable metals from acidic mine drainage (AMD) during bioremediation using straw bioremediation system was investigated, with observation of efficient metal recovery. The recovery loading rates of Cu and Zn were 46.19?±?6.13 and 43.86?±?6.76?mg?m?3?h?1, respectively. More than 97.0% of Cu and more than 87.0% of Zn were recovered from AMD during bioremediation. The recovery loading rate of Cu increased by 4.54?mg?m?3?h?1 for each 1?mg?L?1 increase in influent concentration while that of Zn increased by 4.08?mg?m?3?h?1. Heavy metal toxic effect on the metal recovery in the straw bioremediation system could be neglected in most cases. Low pH could severely decrease recovery rate of Zn, while it had no influence on that of Cu. The recovery loading rate of Zn decreased by almost 70% when the influent pH decreased from 7.0 to 3.0. Cu could be recovered efficiently even at a short hydraulic residence time (HRT) of 18?h, while Zn could only be efficiently recovered at a relatively long HRT of 80?h, indicating that selective metal recovery might be achieved with relatively short HRT and bioreactor process optimization. These findings suggested the feasibility of using sulfate-reducing straw bioremediation system to recover valuable metals during bioremediation of AMD.  相似文献

Water quality of Lake Okeechobee has been a major environmental concern for many years. Transport of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in runoff water from watershed is critical to the increased inputs of nutrients (N and P) and metals (Cu and Zn). In this study, 124 soil samples were collected with varying soil types, land uses, and soil depths in Lake Okeechobee watershed and analyzed for water-extractable C, N, P, and metals to examine the relationship between dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and water soluble nutrients (N and P) and metals in the soils. DOC in the soils was in 27.64?C400 mg kg?1 (69.30 mg kg?1 in average) and varied with soil types, land uses, and soil depth. The highest water-extractable DOC was found in soils collected in sugar cane and field crops (277 and 244 mg kg?1 in average, respectively). Water soluble concentrations of N and P were in the range of 6.46?C129 and 0.02?C60.79 mg kg?1, respectively. The ratios of water-extractable C/N and C/P in soils were in 0.68?C12.52 (3.23 in average) and 3.19?C2,329 (216 in average), and varied with land uses. The lowest water-extractable C/N was observed in the soils from dairy (1.66), resident (1.79), and coniferous forest (4.49), whereas the lowest water-extractable C/P was with the land uses of dairy (13.1) and citrus (33.7). Therefore, N and P in the soils under these land uses may have high availability and leaching potential. The concentrations of water soluble Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn were in the ranges of?<?method detection limit (MDL)?C0.33, <MDL?C0.53, 0.04?C2.42, <MDL?C0.71, and 0.09?C1.13 mg kg?1, with corresponding mean values of 0.02, 0.01, 0.50, 0.07, and 0.37 mg kg?1, respectively. The highest water soluble Co (0.10 mg kg?1), Cr (0.26 mg kg?1), Ni (0.31 mg kg?1), and Zn (0.80 mg kg?1) were observed in soils under the land use of sugar cane, whereas the highest Cu (1.50 mg kg?1) was with field crop. The concentration of DOC was positively correlated with total organic carbon (TOC) (P <0.01), water soluble N (P <0.01), electrical conductivity (EC, P <0.01), and water soluble Co, Cr, Ni, and Zn (P <0.01), and Cu (P <0.05), whereas water soluble N was positively correlated with water soluble P, Cu, and Zn (P <0.01) in soils. These results indicate that the transport of DOC from land to water bodies may correlate with the loss of macro-nutrients (N, P), micro-nutrients (Cu, Zn, and Ni), and contaminants (Cr and Co) as well.  相似文献

Engineered plant growth media must support plant growth while minimizing environmental impact. The objective of this research was to determine how different growth media influence nutrient leaching. Plant growth media contained varied amounts of soil, sand, compost that did or did not contain manure, and possible sorbents for phosphorus. If the plant growth media included compost derived partly from manure, leaching losses of nutrients were excessive due to the high nutrient load in the compost. Layering compost over the plant media mix resulted in lower nitrate concentrations in effluent (87 mg L?1) compared with mixing compost into the media (343 mg L?1); however, growth of prairie grasses was reduced because of dense media below the compost blanket (0.09 versus 0.31 g). Using lower amounts of compost that did not contain manure resulted in lower mean nitrate concentrations in effluent (101 versus 468 mg L?1). Media that had no soil (13.3 mg L?1) had greater loss of phosphorus after harvest for unsaturated drainage than media with soil (1.8 mg L?1). To reduce nitrate leaching, only small amounts of low-nutrient compost (higher C:N ratio) should be incorporated into the media. If compost is applied as a surface blanket without incorporation, then soil should be added to the sand to reduce density of the media and increase plant growth.  相似文献

The effect of increasing chloride content in nutrient solution on nutrient composition in root environment, interaction of nutrients in leaves and yield of greenhouse tomato cv. ‘Grace F1’ grown in rockwool were searched. In Experiment I (2004–2005) the levels of 15, 30, 60, and 90 mg Cl·L?1 but in Experiment II (2006) 30, 60, 90 and 120 mg Cl·L?1 of nutrient solution were tested. The sources of chloride were water (9.6–10.7 mg Cl·L?1) and calcium chloride (CaCl2·2H2O) but the rest of nutrients and sodium in all treatments were on the same levels. It was found that increasing content of chloride from 15 to 60 mg Cl·L?1 enhanced the total and marketable fruit yield. Within the range of 60 to 90 mg Cl·L?1 the yield was on the optimum level but the content of 120 mg Cl·L?1 declined it. Increasing chloride content in the nutrient solutions was reflected in rising of chlorine content in leaves. The concentration of chloride above 60 mg C·L?1 reduced the content of nitrogen but above 90 mg C·L?1 declined the content of calcium, sulfur and zinc in leaves. The antagonism between Cl:N, Cl:Ca: Cl:S and Cl:Zn was appeared. More variable interaction were between Cl:K and Cl:B. At the low levels of chloride, from 15 to 60 mg Cl·L?1, potassium and boron content were decreased but at the higher ones, from 90 to 120 mg·L?1, these nutrients had increasing course. It was not found out the effect of chloride contents on macro and microelement contents in nutrient solution emitted from drippers however their content upraising in root medium (rockwool). The highest increase was found out for Na 95.1 and 64.9 % (Exp. I and II - respectively), next for Ca (76.0, 70.1 %), Cu (62.5 and 71.0 %), Cl (43.6, 24.4), B (33.3, 21.0 %), N-NO3 (30.4, 49.6 %), Zn (29.5, 32.8 %), S-SO4 (25.9, 25.5 %), K (24.5, 24.1 %), Fe (19.8, 19.2 %), Mn (17.5, 21.3 %) and Mg (14.9, 11.7). Advantageous effect of chloride on tomato yield justified the need to introduce for the practice adequate chlorine nutrition, and recommend to maintain 60 to 90 mg Cl·L?1 in nutrient solution. The best yield appeared when content of chlorine in leaves (8th or 9th leaf from the top) was in the range 0.48-0.60 % of Cl in d. m.  相似文献

Sulfuric acid leaching is a promising technique to extract toxic metals from polluted soils. The objective of this study was to define the optimum sulfuric acid leaching conditions for decontamination of the fine particle fraction (<125???m) of an industrial soil polluted by Cd (16.8?mg?kg?1), Cu (3,350?mg?kg?1), Pb (631?mg?kg?1) and Zn (3,010?mg?kg?1). Batch leaching tests in Erlenmeyer shake flasks showed that a soil pulp pH between 1.5 and 2.0 using a solid concentration (SC) ranging from 5 to 20?% is adequate to efficiently solubilize toxic metals. Leaching tests performed at different temperatures (20, 40, 60 and 80?°C) also revealed that it is not beneficial to heat the soil suspension during the leaching treatment. The application in a 1-L stirred tank reactor of five consecutive 1-h leaching steps at 10?% SC and ambient temperature, followed by three water washings steps resulted in the following metal extraction yields: 30?% As, 90?% Cd, 43?% Co, 7?% Cr, 88?% Cu, 75?% Mn, 26?% Ni, 18?% Pb and 86?% Zn. The decontaminated soil conformed to Quebec norms for commercial and industrial use of soil.  相似文献

Ozone and UV irradiation were used for oxidative decomposition of EDTA-Cu complexes in washing solution obtained during multi-step leaching of Cu (344,1?±?36.5 mg kg?1) contaminated vineyard soil with EDTA as a chelant. The released Cu was absorbed from the washing solution on a commercial mixture of metal absorbing minerals, and the treated washing solution then reused for removal of soil residual Cu-EDTA complexes in a closed-loop process. Six consecutive leaching steps (6?×?2.5 mmol kg?1 of EDTA) removed 38.8 % of Cu from soils, and reduced Cu soil mobility, determined using the toxicity characteristic leaching test (TCLP), by 28.5%. The final washing solution obtained after soil remediation was colourless, with a pH close to neutral (7.5?±?0.2) and with low concentrations of Cu and EDTA (0.51?±?0.22 mg L?1 and 0.083 mM, respectively). The proposed remediation method has therefore potential not just to recycle and save process water, but also not to produce toxic wastewaters. Soil treatment did not substantially alter the soil properties determined by pedological analysis, and had relatively little impact on soil hydraulic conductivity and soil water sorption capacity.  相似文献

The toxic effects and accumulation of the heavy metals, Cd, Cu, and Zn by the sheath forming blue-green alga Chroococcus paris were investigated. All three of the metals were bound rapidly. Approximately 90% of the total amount of the added metal was bound within 1 min. Further significant binding occurred at a slower rate. The maximum metal binding capacity, as determined by filtration studies, was determined to be 53, 120, and 65 mg g?1 dry algal weight for Cd, Cu, and Zn, respectively. Binding curves for the metals followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The amount of metal bound increased with increasing pH. Metal binding increased significantly when pH was increased from 4 to 7. Nearly all of the metal was found to be rapidly EDTA extractable. Metals were found to be increasingly toxic to growing cultures in the order, Zn, Cd, and Cu. All of the metals studied exhibited toxic effects at concentrations greater than 1.0 mg L?1. The lowest concentrations used which showed detectable toxicity were 0.1 mg L?1 for Cu and >0.4 mg L?1 for Cd and Zn.  相似文献

A 20-month column experiment investigated leaching of Al, Cu, Mn, Ni, Zn, Cd and Pb during sulphide oxidation in mine tailings with and without sewage sludge (SS) amendment. Leachate pH decreased gradually in all columns during the experiment, irrespective of treatment, due to sulphide oxidation. As the degree of sulphide oxidation, and thus the pH trajectory, differed between replicates (n?=?3), running data for each column used are reported separately and the relationships between sulphide oxidation, metal leaching and treatment in each column compared. Mean pH in the columns correlated negatively with total amounts of leached SO4 2-. In the beginning of the experiment the leachate concentrations of Al, Cu, Zn, Ni and Pb were higher in SS-treated columns due to high initial concentrations of dissolved organic carbon. As leaching proceeded, however, the amounts of Al, Cu, Mn and Ni leached from the columns were closely related to the degree of sulphide oxidation in each column, i.e. to its mean pH. There were no statistically significant differences between treatments regarding the total amounts of metals leached and thus addition of sewage sludge to the tailings appeared to play a minor role for metal leaching patterns. Peak concentrations of Al and Cu in the leachate from untreated tailings and of Zn in the leachate from both untreated and SS-treated tailings at pH 4 exceeded national background values for groundwater.  相似文献

Abstract

Maize (Zea mays L.) cv. Ganga 2 was grown in refined sand at three levels of copper: deficient (0.00065 mg L-1), adequate (0.065 mg L-1), and excess (6.5 mg L-1), each at three levels, deficient (0.00065 mg L-1), adequate (0.065 mg L-1), and excess (6.5 mg L-1) of zinc. Excess Cu magnified the zinc deficiency effects in maize by lowering further the biomass, the concentration of leaf Zn, activities of carbonic anhydrase, aldolase, and ribonuclease and intensified the visible foliar symptoms of Zn deficiency. The effects of Cu deficiency, low dry weight, the concentration of leaf Cu and activities of cytochrome oxidase and polyphenol oxidase were enhanced by excess Zn. Synergism was observed between combined deficiency of Cu and Zn and Cu or Zn deficiency, because the depression in the parameters characteristic of Cu or Zn deficiency was more pronounced when both Cu and Zn were deficient than when Cu or Zn was deficient. Antagonism was observed in some parameters between combined excess of Cu and Zn and Cu or Zn excess. Dry weight was decreased further when both Cu and Zn were in excess than when either Cu or Zn was in excess. After the infiltration of Cu and Zn together to the leaf discs from deficient Cu-deficient Zn treatment, the increase in the concentration of leaf Zn and the activities of aldolase, carbonic anhydrase, polyphenol oxidase, and cytochrome oxidase was more pronounced than after the infiltration of Cu or Zn singly. Discontinuance of excess Zn supply from the excess Zn-deficient Cu treatment increased the concentration of leaf Cu and activities of polyphenol oxidase and cytochrome oxidase and lowered the concentration of Zn. Similarly the discontinuance of excess Cu supply from the leaf discs in the “excess Cu-deficient Zn” treatment increased the leaf Zn concentration and the activities of carbonic anhydrase and aldolase.  相似文献
