The musculature of the pelvic limb in the turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) Pelvic limbs of 150 turkeys from a normal farmer's strain and from an Broad Breasted strain were examined by dissection to determine growth from birth to adulthood. Schematic figures and photographs show the course of the dissection. The pictures show how the muscles are related to the skeleton of the pelvic limb in the farmer's strain as well as demonstrate the surfaces upon which the muscles insert. The configuration of the muscles in the turkey are similar to the generally known model in birds. It is necessary, however, to describe the musculature and its relations to the skeleton before functional conclusions can be drawn or before studies of deficiencies in movements related to the selection of broad breasted strains can be made.

The arterial pattern of 134 horse testicles has been studied from different methods. The testicle was supplied by a single testicular artery in 79,10% of the cases. The division into two branches before entry into the organ was seen in 17,16% of the cases. The other testicles studied were supplied by three separate branches all originating from the extratesticular part of the testicular artery. Different connections of variable importance exist mainly between the vessels supplying the epididymis and the mesorchium (deferential artery and branches of testicular artery) and the significant arteries of the testicle.

The changes of antibody titers in the sera of colts infested naturally or artificially with Gasterophilus have been determined in relation to the life cycle of this arthropod using passive hemagglutination, complement fixation, double diffusion techniques and saline extracts of antigens from the third larval stages of Gasterophilus intestinalis and G. nasalis.

In the sera of the infected animals the hemagglutinating antibodies were present at low titers at the third week post-infestation by using somatic extract of G. intestinalis and at the seventh week in case of G. nasalis. At eight weeks post-infestation the antibody titers reached their maximum 1:8192 (G. intestinalis) and 1:4096 (G. nasalis), then dropped at 12 weeks post-infestation.

The complement fixing antibodies were present occasionally between the seventh and 11th weeks after infestation. Precipitating antibodies were absent in all sera.

The equine blood oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve has been traced in its entirety in standard conditions and the effects of temperature, pH and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate on this curve have been measured. When compared to that of human blood, the curve showed a higher oxygen affinity of hemoglobin (23.8 +/- 0.8 versus 26.6 mm Hg). The effect of the pH, expressed by d log P50/dpH, was found to be identical in man and horse (-0.47). The effect of temperature, however, expressed by d log P50/dT, proved to be lower in the horse (0.016 versus 0.024). The P50 showed an increase of 1 mm Hg each time 2,3-diphosphoglycerate was experiencing an elevation of 4 mumol/gHb in the horse. The results obtained from this experiment are intended for the replacement of the values related to the human blood which have been found to be somewhat inadequate for the horse blood, when the data of blood gases are given in algorithms.

The influence of cadmium on Carassius auratus gut. The paper deals with the cadmium effects on the intestinal mucosa of adult Carassius auratus after 7, 14 and 40 days of exposure. After 7 days the mucosa becomes oedematous; the mucous cells show intensive secretion. The cells showing immunoreactivity for the Met- and Leuenkephaline miss this feature. After 14 days these modifications diminish and after 40 days disappear completely and the mucosa gains its normal characteristics.

The authors have examined the external conformation and the lobes of 100 livers of one humped camels (Camelus dromedarius), mâles and aged between 5 and 10 years. Similitudes and anatomical differences with other domestic animals were also reported.
