Myocardia were histologically examined for the presence of pathomorphological processes in 143 pigs of varying age groups (one, three, seven to nine, and 24 months). Some of them had been slaughtered in clinically intact condition. Others had died of non-cardial diseases. Numerous alterations were recorded, with the following among them being more suitable than others for quantitative assessment and thus objective appraisal of the myocardium: inflammatory infiltrations, granular or hyaline disintegration of fibres, fibre necrosis, dystrophic calcification of fibres, degenerative fat infiltration, and sarcosporidiosis. These parameters were increasingly detectable along with growing age of animals. Inflammatory infiltrations were among the most common findings from pigs for slaughter, aged seven to nine months (40.4 percent of myocardial samples or 58 percent of hearts), followed by muscle fibre necroses (26.4 or 42.0 percent). Most of these disorders were but slightly manifest and were considered to be indicators of catabolic or reparative processes in the myocardium. Attention should be given to them, whenever it comes to pigs with cardiac or circulatory disturbances.  相似文献

Quantitative pathohistological investigations were performed on 300 samples of five different myocardial regions from 50 pigs with had suffered stress-related myocardial insufficiency on their transport to the slaughterhouse (transport exhaustion). The findings were compared to 1,200 myocardial samples from 200 clinically intact pigs for slaughter. Animals with transport-related damage exhibited with significance more and more severe inflammatory and degenerative myocardial alterations, such as round-cell infiltration, fiber necrosis, calcification, and fat infiltration. Many of these lesions had been manifest already prior to transport. Myocardially predamaged pigs were less capable than others of sustaining transport stress and were more predisposed to cardiac failure. Stress-related cardiovascular insufficiency, consequently, depended not only on direct stress but also on the general health condition of the myocardium. Causes and pathogenetic relevance of these alterations are discussed in some detail.  相似文献

In a total of 2653 slaughter pigs of the breeds Large White, Pi?train and Belgic Land Race the hearts were examined grossly ad histopathologically as to the occurrence of endocardiosis of the atrioventricular valves. This lesion occurred with high incidence. Endocardiosis of the V. mitralis was diagnosed in 63.2% and endocardiosis of the V. tricuspidalis in 17.7% of pigs. In 33.6% of animals the valves proved to be normal. Possible pathogenetic factors are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Acute and progressive respiratory distress ("shock lung") is a well known and feared complication in human patients with a variety of underlying disorders, even though the lungs are not involved primarily. In spite of the fact that dogs, and other animals, very often have been used in experimental models studying this syndrome, "shock lungs" have not received much attention in veterinary medicine. With the improved and more intensive treatment of severely diseased animals during the last years, especially pet animals, it is reasonable to assume that the lungs will be more important as an end organ also in veterinary practice. Animals in shock, particularly if complicated with sepsis, are prone to develop progressive respiratory distress. This paper reviews the current knowledge about the clinical picture, pathology and pathogenesis of acute respiratory disease, with main emphasize on the pathogenetic mechanism.  相似文献

African swine fever is a viral haemorrhagic disease of pigs which has been used as a model for the study of viral haemorrhagic diseases in man. The acute course of the disease is characterized by acute proliferative glomerulonephritis, with viral replication in mesangial cells and occasional focal necrosis of the renal tubular system; hyperplasia of the collecting ducts is associated with evident virus replication. Haemorrhages have been attributed to endothelial dysfunction, aggravated by virus replication in endothelial cells in the final stages of the disease. The renal interstitium displays intense oedema and an infiltrate largely composed of macrophages. Virus replication has also been observed in fibroblasts and in the smooth0muscle cells of arterioles and venules. In subacute-chronic forms of the disease, various types of glomerulonephritis are observed, ranging from mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis to focal and segmental hyalinosis associated with immune-mediated phenomena. No striking changes are reported in the renal tubular system. Interstitial haemorrhages are associated with diapedesis due to immunologically mediated events. The interstitium has also been found to contain a lymphohistiocytic infiltrate with abundant plasma cells. No evidence has been reported of viral replication in any cell population.Abbreviations ASF African swine fever - ASFV African swine fever virus - C complement component - DNA deoxyribonucleic acid - HAD50 50% haemoadsorbing doses - Ig immunoglobulin - MPS mononuclear phagocytic system - PAS periodic acid-Schiff reagent  相似文献

Lungs from 191 slaughter pigs with gross lesions indicative of enzootic pneumonia of pigs (EPP) and 80 grossly normal lungs, all originating from 9 different herds, were subjected to microbiological and pathological examinations. The microbiological studies included both bacterial and mycoplasmal culture and also testing for Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae antigen in tissue by indirect immunofluorescent technique. M. hyopneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida and Mycoplasma hyorhinis were detected in 83%, 43% and 37% of the pneumonic lungs, respectively. Mycoplasma flocculare was the most frequently isolated organism in the non-pneumonic lungs. The greatest amounts of macroscopic pneumonia (25.2%) were recorded in lungs with all the three agents M. hyopneumoniae, P. multocida and M. hyorhinis present. The amounts of pneumonia in lungs with M. hyopneumoniae alone and in concurrence with P. multocida, were 9.3% and 15.6%, respectively. M. hyorhinis was also, in this study, associated with higher frequency of diffuse pleuritis. These findings indicate that M. hyorhinis might be involved in the pathogenesis of pneumonia in slaughter pigs. Ninety-six per cent of the isolates of P. multocida from pneumonic lungs could be characterized as type A. In the herds which had the most severe pneumonia problems, toxin production was detected in 83% of the P. multocida strains while only 28% were toxigenic in herds with subclinical to moderate pneumonia problems.  相似文献

Limb joint soundness was examined in 40 pigs loaded into a wooden box cart and 40 control pigs not subjected to loading. On postmortem examination, eight loaded pigs showed osteochondritis dissecans in their medial humeral condyles, suggesting that porcine joints are vulnerable to osteochondral lesions when mechanically overloaded. Prevention of trauma by careful handling of pigs during penning and transportation should help to control joint lesions and lameness.  相似文献

Porcine proliferative enteropathy caused by Lawsonia intracellularis is an important enteric disease in swine throughout the world. Information regarding the distribution of this pathogen in Canadian swine herds would be beneficial for the creation of control protocols. Pigs from Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta were tested by using an indirect immunofluorescence assay for antibodies to L. intracellularis. Pig seroprevalence was calculated as the proportion of pigs positive from total pigs tested in the targeted population. Seroprevalence (+/- standard error [s(x)]) in market hogs in Ontario from farrow-finish (FF) farms and finishing (FIN) farms were significantly different at 77% (s(x) = 7%) and 29% (s(x) = 15%), respectively. Seroprevalence for sows and gilts in FF and farrowing and nursery (FAR + NUR) farms in Ontario were 90% (s(x) = 3%) and 93% (s(x) = 6%), respectively. Seroprevalence in breeding females in Quebec from FF and FAR farms was 82% (s(x) = 5%) and 87% (s(x) = 3%), respectively. Seroprevalence (57%, s(x) = 8%) in finishing pigs in Alberta from FF farms was significantly different from that of multisite (MS) farms and FIN farms, 6% (s(x) = 6%) and 9% (s(x) = 5%), respectively. Lawsonia intracellularis appears to be widespread in Canada and the seroprevalence on FF farms is higher than that on FIN and MS farms, possibly due to the presence of breeding females or management differences.  相似文献

Vesicular exanthema of swine virus type A48 or San Miguel sea lion virus type 2, when inoculated intradermally into swine, resulted in fluid-filled vesicles at the sites of inoculation in the snout, coronary band, and tongue. Pigs that developed vesicles also had fevers. Secondary vesicle formation varied, depending on virus serotype. Viremia was found in one pig infected with San Miguel sea lion virus five days after infection. Virus was recovered from nasal-oral passages for up to five days after infection in both groups of pigs and from the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts of pigs infected with San Miguel sea lion virus. Neutralizing antibodies began to increase three days after inoculation and reached peak titers in seven to ten days. In the absence of secondary bacterial infection, healing was well advanced by ten days after inoculation. Lesions usually were limited to nonhaired portions of the integument and tongue. Individual epithelial cells became infected when a break in the skin allowed virus access to susceptible epithelial cells from either exogenous or endogenous sources. Individual infected cells ruptured and adjacent cells were infected, resulting in the formation of multiple microvesicles. Centrifugal coalescence of microvesicles led to formation of grossly visible macrovesicles. Lesions rarely developed from viral contamination of intact hair follicles. A mild virus-induced encephalitis was seen in pigs infected with vesicular exanthema of swine virus, and virus was recovered from brain tissue of pigs infected with San Miguel sea lion virus.  相似文献

This paper describes major pathogenetic mechanisms of African and Classical Swine Fever virus infections. The interactions between both viruses and the monocyte-macrophage-system result in the release of mediator molecules, which are important for the further progression of the diseases. The causes of the thrombocytopenia and the mechanisms of the haemorrhages, which are characteristic in both infections, are described. Apoptotic cell death is regarded as the predominant cause of lymphopenia in both virus infections.  相似文献

With ileum cannulated sows were tested the apparent precaecal and faecal digestibility of crude nutrients from raw and thermically treated fodder sugar beets of size "Rosamona". Two samples from two different harvest years, differing extremely in the content of disaccharides were tested. The crude nutrient digestibility affected stronger by content of sucrose then by treatment. Fodder sugar beets with contents of disaccharide lower then 400 g/kg DM showed low precaecal and faecal digestibilities. A longer cooling phase decreased the feed value of steamed beets through the microbial attack in the formation of precaecal indigestible sugar alcohols (mannitol).  相似文献
