A series of blend nanofiber mats comprising poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and polyurethane (PU) were prepared by dual-jet electrospinning in various parameters. Orthogonal experimental design was used to investigate how those parameters affected on fiber diameters and fiber diameter distribution. Altogether three parameters having three levels each were chosen for this study. The chosen parameters were tip-to-collector distance (TCD), voltage and tip-to-tip distance (TTD). Fiber diameters, thermal properties, mechanical properties and hydrophilicity of the blend nanofiber mats were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), tensile test, contact angle and water absorption test, respectively. The results showed that the optimum conditions for PVA/PU blend nanofiber mats fabricated by dual-jet electrospinning were TCD of 20 cm, voltage of 18 kV and TTD of 4 cm. Besides, the thermal stability of PVA/PU blend nanofiber mats had been improved compared with pure nanofibers. Furthermore, the elongation and tensile strength of the blend nanofiber mats were significantly increased compared with pure PVA and pure PU, respectively. And the blend nanofiber mats exhibited well hydrophilicity.  相似文献

Cellulose nanowhisker (CNW) reinforced electrospun Bombyx mori silk fibroin (SF) nanofibers were fabricated. The morphology, structure, and mechanical properties of nanofibers were investigated by FE-SEM, TEM, FTIR, and tensile testing. It was found that the nanofiber size decreased obviously from 250 nm in the unreinforced mat to 77–160 nm in the CNW reinforced mats depending on the CNW content due to the increased conductivity of spinning dope. In the reinforced mats, the CNWs were embedded in the SF matrix separated from each other, and aligned along the fiber axis. There was a positive correlation between the CNW content and the tensile strength and Young’s modulus of reinforced mats. However the strain at break dropped gradually with the increase of CNW. When the CNW content was 2 w/w%, the tensile strength and Young’s modulus of reinforced SF nanofiber mats were about 2 times higher than those of unreinforced mat.  相似文献

Optimization of mechanical properties is required in the applications of tissue-engineered scaffolds. Thermal annealing strategy is proposed to improve the mechanical properties of polyelectrolyte complex nanofiber membranes. The effects of annealing on the structural and mechanical properties of electrospun chitosan-gelatin (CG) nanofiber membranes were investigated using tensile tests, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Tensile test results showed that annealing processing at 90 °C produced 1.3-fold and 1.1-fold increase on Young’s modulus and tensile strength, respectively. By scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation, it was found there was a formation of partial interfiber bonding when annealing temperature was elevated over the glass transition temperature (T g ) of CG nanofibers. FTIR results showed enhanced molecular interactions within fibers, suggesting that annealing treatment promoted the conjunction between chitosan and gelatin. In contrast, no detectable changes in crystallinity for CG nanofiber specimens were exhibited on XRD patterns following annealing treatment. In addition, thermal annealing induced the improvement in thermal stability, aqueous stability and swelling capacity. Therefore, annealing is proved to be an effective strategy for mechanical enhancement of polyelectrolyte complex nanofibrous scaffolds. The enhanced stiffness and strength is mainly attributed to the formation of interfiber bonding and strengthened molecular interactions between chitosan and gelatin.  相似文献

In this study, we report the fabrication and evaluation of a hybrid multi-scale basalt fiber/epoxy composite laminate reinforced with layers of electrospun carbon nanotube/polyurethane (CNT/PU) nanofibers. Electrospun polyurethane mats containing 1, 3 and 5 wt% carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were interleaved between layers of basalt fibers laminated with epoxy through vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process. The strength and stiffness of composites for each configuration were tested by tensile and flexural tests, and SEM analysis was conducted to observe the morphology of the composites. The results showed increase in tensile strength (4–13 %) and tensile modulus (6–20 %), and also increase in flexural strength (6.5–17.3 %) and stiffness of the hybrid composites with the increase of CNT content in PU nanofibers. The use of surfactant to disperse CNTs in the electrospun PU reinforcement resulted to the highest increase in both tensile and flexural properties, which is attributed to the homogeneous dispersion of CNTs in the PU nanofibers and the high surface area of the nanofibers themselves. Here, the use of multi-scale reinforcement fillers with good and homogeneous dispersion for epoxy-based laminates showed increased mechanical performance of the hybrid composite laminates.  相似文献

In this study, electrospun wool keratose (WK)/silk fibroin (SF) blend nanofiber was prepared and evaluated as a heavy metal ion adsorbent which can be used in water purification field. The WK, which was a soluble fraction of oxidized wool keratin fiber, was blended with SF in formic acid. The electrospinnability was greatly improved with an increase of SF content. The structure and properties of WK/SF blend nanofibers were investigated by SEM, FTIR, DMTA and tensile test. Among various WK/SF blend ratios, 50/50 blend nanofiber showed an excellent mechanical property. It might be due to some physical interaction between SF and WK molecules although FTIR result did not show any evidence of molecular miscibility. As a result of metal ion adsorption test, WK/SF blend nanofiber mats exhibited high Cu2+ adsorption capacity compared with ordinary wool sliver at pH 8.5. It might be due to large specific surface area of nanofiber mat as well as numerous functional groups of WK. Consequently, the WK/SF blend nanofiber mats can be a promising candidate as metal ion adsorption filter.  相似文献

Electrically conductive nanofibers were fabricated from elastic polyurethane (PU) and PU/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanocomposite by electrospinning method. The nanocomposites were electrospun at various MWCNTs loading. Electron microscopy was used to investigate nanofibers morphology and dispersion of MWCNTs in the electrospun nanofibers. The results showed that the presence of the MWCNTs promoted the creation of fibrous structures in comparison with the PU without MWCNTs. On the other hand, increasing the MWCNTs content resulted in a slight increase in the average fiber diameter. TEM micrographs and mechanical properties of the electrospun mats indicated that the homogeneous dispersion of MWCNTs throughout PU matrix is responsible for the considerable enhancement of mechanical properties of the nanofiber mats. Electrical behavior of the conductive mats was also studied, in view of possible sensor applications. Cyclic experiments were conducted to establish whether the electrical properties were reversible, which is an important requirement for sensor materials.  相似文献

Herein, a biodegradable and biocompatible composite comprising of support membrane based on crosslinked PVA/PEG film and curcumin loaded electrospun poly(lactic acid) (PLA) nanofiber mat is introduced. The membrane film was prepared from PVA/PEG blend followed by crosslinking with an optimum amount of citric acid, 15 wt.%. After then, PLA solutions with different curcumin content, 0-11 wt.%, were electrospinned on the prepared membrane substrate. The prepared film showed high water absorption, water vapor transmission rate and superior mechanical properties with improved elastic modulus, tensile strength and with an elongation of around 320 % with respect to the non-crosslinked one. Also, the scanning electron microscopy was revealed uniformly dispersed pores throughout the membrane film with a nearly narrow in size distribution centered at 36 μm. As well, a nanostructure porous morphology was found for the electrospun fibrous curcumin loaded PLA from the scanning electron microscopy micrographs and the average fiber diameter was decreased with curcumin content. In vitro drug release from the prepared flexible composite into the vertical diffusion cell was recorded by the measuring curcuminoids content using high performance liquid chromatography and drug release kinetic evaluations were revealed that the release pattern of all prepared samples, containing different content of curcumin, well fitted to the Higuchi’s model signifying diffusion-controlled release mechanism. As well, the determined release rate at the second release stages, i.e. steady state flux (J), was varied from 0.31 to 43.53 μg·cm-2·h-1 with increasing drug content from 1 to 11 wt.%. Regarding this results, this flexible composite by providing the moist environment along with miraculous healing properties of curcumin, can be potential candidate for transdermal drug delivery.  相似文献

As a kind of high-performance fibers, PTFE fiber has been widely used in many fields because of its unique characteristics. In this study, the poly(tetrafloroethylene) (PTFE) nanofibers manufactured by electrospinning method was reported. The gel-spinning solution of poly(tetrafluoroethylene)/poly(vinyl alcohol)/boric acid (PTFE/PVA/BA), which was prepared by the gel process of the mixture of PTFE, PVA, BA and redistilled water, was electrospun to form PTFE/PVA/BA composite nanofibers. After calcinating, the PTFE nanofibers with diameters of 200 nm to 1000 nm were obtained. The fibers before and after calcinating were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectrum analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively, and the mechanical and hydrophobic properties of the fibers were also investigated. The results showed that the PTFE nanofiber membranes could be electrospun effectively used the gel-spinning solution of PTFE/PVA/BA, and may realize the applications in the fields of high-temperature filtration, catalyst supports, battery separator and so on.  相似文献

In the present study, we introduce poly(caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers that contain hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanoparticles (NPs) as a result of an electrospinning process. A simple method that does not depend on additional foreign chemicals has been employed to synthesize HAp NPs through calcination of bovine bones. Typically, a colloidal gel consisting of PCL/HAp has been electrospun to form nanofibers. Physiochemical aspects of prepared nanofibers were characterized for FE-SEM, TEM, XRD and FTIR which confirmed nanofibers were well-oriented and had good dispersion of HAp NPs. Parameters affecting the utilization of the prepared nanofibers in various nano-biotechnological fields have been studied; for instance, the bioactivity of the produced nanofiber mats was investigated while incubated with stimulated body fluid (SBF). The results from incubation of nanofibers in SBF indicate that incorporation of HAp strongly activates precipitation of the apatite-like materials because the HAp NPs act as seeds that accelerate crystallization of the biological HAp from the utilized SBF.  相似文献

In this study, two kinds of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) (carbon fiber grade PAN and oxidized fiber grade PAN) are used as the raw materials for a PAN-based nanofiber nonwoven that is prepared using electrospinning. A high-temperature erect furnace is then used, which uses oxidization processes to prepare oxidized nanofiber nonwovens in a continuous manufacturing process. The parameters used for the oxidation process are oxidation temperatures of 150, 200, 250, 275, 300 and 300 °C, which correspond to a production rate of 3, 5 and 10 cm/min at 5-cN tension. The variation in the yield rate, the breaking strength and the shrinkage of the oxidized PAN based electrospun nonwovens are examined in this study. The results demonstrate that the limit oxygen index (LOI) and aromatization index (AI) increase as the production rate decreases. Under the optimum oxidation conditions, higher quality oxidized electrospun nonwovens are produced using carbon fiber grade PAN with AI of 61 % and LOI of 42 %.  相似文献

In this work, the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets were effectively uploaded through nylon-6 fibers using combined process of electrospinning and hydrothermal treatment. Good dispersion of graphene oxide (GO) with nylon-6 solution could allow to upload GO sheets through nylon-6 fibers and facilitate the formation of spider-wave-like nano-nets during electrospinning. GO sheets present on/into nylon-6 spider-wave-like nano-nets were further reduced to RGO using hydrothermal treatment. The impregnated GO sheets into nylon-6 nanofibers and their reduction during hydrothermal treatment were confirmed by FE-SEM, TEM, FT-IR and Raman spectra. The electrical characteristics of pristine nylon-6, GO/nylon-6 and RGO/nylon-6 nanofibers were investigated and it was found that RGO/nylon-6 composite mat had better electrical conductivity than others. The formation of spider-wave-like nano-nets as well as indirect route of incorporation of RGO sheets on electrospun nylon-6 mat may open a new direction for future graphene/polymer electronics.  相似文献

An allometrical scaling relationship between the diameter of electrospun nanofiber and solution concentration is established, the scaling exponent differs greatly between different polymers and the same polymer with different molecules or the same molecules with different properties. The diameter of electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers increases approximately linearly with solution concentration.  相似文献

Conventional textile based wound dressing materials are cost effective and highly absorbent, but when used alone fails to provide optimal wound healing conditions like homeostasis, non-adherence, maintenance of a moist wound bed, etc. Electrospun polymer web meets the requirements outlined for wound healing, by their microfibrous structures provide suitable environment for wound healing apart from the function of polymers. In this study, blends of soy protein isolate (SPI) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) nano fiber web was prepared by electro spinning process. The developed blended nano fiber web was subjected to SEM, FTIR to evaluate fiber size and functional properties respectively. The Moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) result shows the blended electrospun web gives suitable mosit environment over wound bed such as the MVTR is 2994 g/m2/day. The blended electrospun web gives positive result on antimicrobial activity. The effect of SPI/PEO blended electrospun web on wound healing was experimented with female wistar rats and the blended electrospun web shows excellent result on wound healing by the growth of new epithelium without any significant adverse reaction. Forming of SPI/PEO electrospun fiber was fulfilled many critical elements desirable in a wound material.  相似文献

Well-aligned PMIA nanofiber mats were fabricated by electrospinning and then hot-stretching along the fiber axis was used to improve the mechanical properties of nanofibers in this paper. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to characterize the morphology and properties of nanofibers. The results showed that the nanofibers became thinner and better alignment than the as-spun nanofibers after hotstretching, and the average diameter of the nanofibers decreased with the increasing of the tensile force. In the same time, hotstretching improved the crystallinity and T g of the as-spun PMIA nanofibers. The tensile strength and modulus of the hotstretched nanofiber mats peaked at ca.50 % and ca.196 % respectively at the tensile force of 12 N compared with the as-spun nanofiber mats.  相似文献

In order to realize flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED), it is critically important to protect moisture and oxygen penetration into the flexible device through the polymer substrates because of intrinsically poor stability of organic materials of OLED to moisture. Since complete protection of the moisture penetration is almost impossible, moisture absorbents are used inside OLED. In this study, metal oxide/polymer hybrid nanofiber with mechanical flexibility and efficient moisture absorption capability was fabricated by electrospinning. Hydrophilic poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) or hydrophobic poly(vinylidenefluoride) (PVDF) and calcium oxide (CaO) were used as the fiber forming polymers and as the moisture absorbing particle, respectively. Polymers were first dissolved in appropriate solvents and CaO was then dispersed in the prepared polymer solutions. The hybrid solution was then electrospun, producing the hybrid nanofiber web looking like paper with thickness of about 100 µm. It was observed that all CaO particles were uniformly held by the nanofiber. It was also observed that only a small portion of the surface of CaO particles was covered by fiber since the fiber diameter was much smaller than the CaO particle size. This implied effective moisture absorption through the free surface of CaO. The hybrid nanofiber absorbed moisture very efficiently upto about 70 % of the nanofiber mass. Once moisture was absorbed by the nanofiber, it was never released even at 150 °C in vacuum for 2 hours. It is, therefore, expected that the nanofiber may be applied as the flexible thin moisture absorbent to improve stability of the flexible OLED.  相似文献

The physical properties of natural growth fibers such as chemical composition content and fiber diameter are highly affected by environmental issues such as environmental changes and fiber extraction methods. These irregularities of the natural fibers seriously affect its utilization in composite as reinforcements. In this study, taking into account the importance of the fiber tensile strength, the correlation degrees between the kenaf fiber tensile strength and the fiber chemical composition, crystallinity, orientation degree were analyzed by the grey relational analysis method. Both the kenaf single fiber and fiber bundle were used as XRD and tensile strength test sample. The chemical composition content and the FTIR were carried out to obtain a correct result of the chemical composition content. It found that for the different XRD and tensile strength test samples, the single fiber showed lower crystallinity, higher orientation degree and tensile strength compared with the fiber bundle. The cellulose content and the orientation degree got the higher correlation degree with single fiber tensile strength, which was 0.674 and 0.640. The highest factor associated with the fiber bundle tensile strength was the orientation degree, the correlation degree was 0.747. The hemicellulose content and the crystallinity also got high correlation degree with the fiber bundle strength, which was 0.687 and 0.640.  相似文献

We report a phenomenal increase in strength, modulus, and fracture strain of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber by 103 %, 219 %, and 108 %, respectively through hybridizing this fiber with Nylon 6 as a minor phase and simultaneously reinforcing it with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Loading of Nylon 6 and SWCNTs into UHMWPE was 20.0 wt% and 2.0 wt%, respectively. Hybridized fibers were processed using a solution spinning method coupled with melt mixing and extrusion. We claim that the enhancement in strain-to-failure of the nanocomposites is due to induced plasticity in the hybridized Nylon 6-UHMWPE polymers. The enhancement in strength and stiffness in the nanocomposites is attributed to the load sharing of the SWCNTs during deformation. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies showed that changes in percent crystallinity, rate of crystallization, crystallite size, alignment of nanotubes, sliding of polymer interfaces and strong adhesion of CNT/polymer blends were responsible for such enhancements.  相似文献

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/Ag-zeolite nanofiber webs were prepared with different concentrations of Ag-zeolite nanoparticles by the electrospinning technique. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Instron, and antibacterial activities analysis were utilized to characterize the morphology and properties of the PVA/Ag-zeolite nanofiber webs. The study results showed that the polymer concentration, applied voltages and tip-to-collector distances were the main factors influencing the morphology of the electrospun nanofiber webs. The introduction of Ag-zeolite nanoparticles improved the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the PVA nanofiber webs. TEM data demonstrated that the Ag-zeolite nanoparticles were well distributed within the nanofiber. FTIR revealed a possible interaction between the PVA matrix and the Ag-zeolite nanoparticles. These fibers showed an antibacterial efficacy of 99.8 % and over against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae at Ag-zeolite concentrations of 1 % and over, because of the presence of the silver nanoparticles in the zeolite.  相似文献

The tussah silk fibroin (TSF) nanofibers with 611 nm diameters were prepared by electrospinning with the solvent hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP). And then, the TSF nanofibers were crosslinked by 1-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide/N-Hydroxysuccinimide (EDC/NHS) crosslinking agent. The morphology and microstructure of the crosslinked TSF nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared analysis (FTIR), X-ray diffraction, Instron electronic strength tester, and cell culture. After treatment with EDC/NHS crosslinking agent, the TSF nanofibers swelled and its average diameter increased from 611 to 841 nm. FTIR and X-ray diffraction results demonstrated that random coil, ??-helix, and ??-sheet co-existed in the TSF nanofiber mats, but the content of ??-sheet increased from 25.26 to 45.34 %, and the random coil content decreased from 32.47 to 24.94 %. Compared with the electrospun pure TSF nanofiber mats, the crosslinked TSF nanofiber mats exhibited a lower breaking tenacity and initial modulus, which were 5.51 MPa and 9.86 MPa, respectively. At the same time, the extension at break of the crosslinked TSF nanofiber achieved 109.38 %. In cell culture evaluation, the crosslinked TSF nanofibers were found to support cell adhesion and spreading fibroblast L373 and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), which had potential utility in a range of tissue engineering.  相似文献
