This case report describes the clinical and postmortem findings in a 2.5-year-old goat with necrotizing granulomatous pneumonia. The goat was referred to our clinic because of swelling of the head and neck, which was unresponsive to treatment, dysphagia, and deterioration in general condition. Thoracic radiographs showed two soft tissue densities, about 10 cm in diameter, in the left caudodorsal lung. The goat was euthanized and a necropsy was carried out. The two lesions in the left caudodorsal lung were round, firm and clearly demarcated from the surrounding lung tissue. They contained purulent material and compromised about 70 % of the diaphragmatic lung lobe. Histological examination of the lesions revealed a dense network of hyphae characteristic of Mucorales spp. 相似文献

An eosinophilic granulomatous pneumonia is described in a German shepherd dog. On thoracic radiographs and at post mortem examination disseminated pulmonary tumour-like nodules had been seen. Histologically the nodules consisted of macrophages, eosinophils, plasma cells and occasionally giant cells. In plasma cells and macrophages, large amounts of immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M could be demonstrated. An aetiology could not be determined, but vasculitis and cytology made an allergic reaction of type 1 and, or, type 3 most likely. The classification of pulmonary infiltration with eosinophilia (PIE-syndrome) is discussed. 相似文献

AIM: To describe the clinical course of a dog infected with Mycobacterium bovis causing a granulomatous pneumonia. CLINICAL FINDINGS: The dog initially presented with a persistent cough, inappetence and weight loss. Clinical findings included a fever, dyspnoea and tachypnoea, with haematological evidence of a mild neutrophilia and hypoalbuminaemia. Radiographs of the chest demonstrated a concomitant pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and a consolidated area within the left caudal lung lobe. An exploratory thoracotomy revealed this to be a ruptured granulomatous lesion. Subsequent histopathological, microbiological and genetic studies identified M. bovis as the causal agent. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Mycobacterium bovis infections should be included in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary disease and pleural effusions in dogs living in regions of New Zealand known to have a high incidence of mycobacterial infection in wildlife and farm animals. 相似文献

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: M. bovis infection is a zoonotic disease, and occupational exposure to tuberculous animals places people at risk of contracting the disease. CONCLUSIONS: Adhering to safe work practices reviewed in this article is important to minimise the risk of infection to people handling tuberculous animals. 相似文献

This paper describes a cat with severe localised infections with Cryptococcus neoformans/gattii species complex and Mycobacterium avium affecting the subcutis and underlying fascia and bone of the right pelvic limb. The simultaneous isolation of both pathogens in this patient was unexpected and posed unique issues concerning both diagnosis and clinical management. The intracellular survival of virulent Mycobacterium bovis and avirulent M. bovis BCG in ferret alveolar macrophages was investigated. In addition, the effects of endogenous and exogenous modulators of macrophage oxidative function on bacterial survival and growth in vitro were determined. Ferret macrophages limited the initial growth of BCG, while virulent M. bovis replicated within macrophages. Intracellular bacterial survival was unaffected by the addition of specific inhibitors of macrophage oxidative function. A T-cell supernatant (TCS), derived from mitogen-stimulated lymphocyte cultures, activated ferret macrophages for heightened oxidative burst performance. However, macrophages activated by TCS, bacterial LPS or a combination of both, failed to control infection, and actually enhanced the intracellular survival of M. bovis. These results are discussed in relation to the role of macrophages in mediating tuberculosis-related pathogenesis, with respect to the fact that ferrets are important wildlife vectors of bovine tuberculosis in New Zealand. 相似文献

Infection with Mycobacterium bovis was diagnosed in a small privately owned herd of Sika deer. After postmortem examination of a deer with progressive pulmonary disease, diagnosis of infection with M bovis was confirmed by bacteriologic culture. The 2 remaining deer in this herd were euthanatized, necropsied, and confirmed to be infected with M bovis. Three cats in contact with the deer were also euthanatized and necropsied. One of these cats had lesions suggestive of mycobacterial infection in the colon and mesenteric lymph nodes. Infection of this cat with M bovis was not confirmed by bacterial culture. Mycobacteriosis, infrequently encountered in clinical veterinary practice, may be confused with disease caused by other infective agents or neoplasia. The zoonotic potential of these bacteria and a recent increase in human tuberculosis warrants continued surveillance of companion and food animal populations for mycobacterial infection. 相似文献

A domestic ferret was presented for episodic regurgitation. Cytologic examination and culture of an enlarged submandibular lymph node revealed Cryptococcus neoformans variety grubii (serotype A). The ferret was successfully treated with itraconazole. This is the first documented case of Cryptococcus neoformans variety grubii in a ferret in the United States. 相似文献
