Summary. A 2-year comparison of the development of Avena fatua L. and Sinapis arvensis L., with spring barley and of Alopecurus myosuroides Huds, with winter wheat gave the following results:
  • 1 Avena fatua emerged shortly before barley in both years. Development until tillering was somewhat slower than that of barley, but after tillering the growth of both species was about the same. The first seeds of A. fatua matured shortly before harvest.
  • 2 Growth of Sinapis arvensis was slower than that of barley during the- early stages, but after tillering was more rapid. Growth ceased more than 10 days before harvest.
  • 3 In 1962–63 Alopecurus myosuroides germinated mainly in spring, but in 1963–64 most germination occurred in autumn, so that early development was different in the two years. After tillering the development WAS much faster than that of wheat and at the flowering stage of A. myosuroides, the shoots were taller than those of wheat. Seed was ripened some time before harvest.
  • 4 A comparison of the development of A. myosuroides and Avena fatua alone and in competition with cereals revealed no marked influence of competition on the pattern of development, but competition did cause some reduction in shoot length and a marked reduction in weight of the two weed species.

以9个不同基因型啤酒大麦品种(系)为供试材料,比较了籽粒灌浆特性及产量性状等指标。结果表明:不同基因型啤酒大麦品种(系)籽粒灌浆过程均呈"S"型曲线变化,开花后天数与千粒重的关系均符合Logistic方程,籽粒灌浆速率变化均呈"慢—快—慢"规律;高秆、旗叶宽大的品种(系)粒重增加时间较早;分蘖能力强或旗叶宽大的品种(系)灌浆速率峰值显现较早,且为单峰,其他品种(系)则为双峰;株高、分蘖能力、旗叶适中的品种(系)保持较高灌浆速率的持续时间较长;在各灌浆特征参数中,最大灌浆速率(Rmax)与产量的灰色关联度最大,平均灌浆速率(R)与千粒重的灰色关联度最大,起始生长势(C0)对前期贡献率的灰色关联度最大。旗叶宽大、分蘖能力和抗旱性较强的品种(系)穗长和穗粒重最大,穗粒数最多,具有一定的产量优势,可作为育种选择目标。0110-16和甘啤7号品种(系)单位面积产量较高,可在生产上推广应用。  相似文献

The effects of the fungal pathogen Phomopsis convolvulus Ormeno on seedling and established plant performance of Convolvulus arvensis L. were compared under both controlled and field conditions. Under a controlled environment, a granular barley formulation of the fungal inoculum that had been applied on to the soil surface of pots containing pre-germinated C. arvensis seeds resulted in above-ground biomass reductions of up to 87%. However, application of the fungus to established plants that had been cut to ground level produced biomass reductions (43%) that were nearly half of those obtained for seedlings. In a parallel field experiment conducted over two growing seasons, application of P. convolvulus resulted in dramatic above-ground biomass reductions for both seedlings and established plants. In one trial, biomass reductions of up to 100% and 98%, respectively, were obtained. C. arvensis coverage within field plots was closely correlated with above-ground biomass. Findings in this study indicated that P. convolvulus may provide effective control of C. arvensis when applied pre-emergence.  相似文献

Studies on the germination of Ischaemum afrum seeds showed that low temperature, presence of glumes and both low and excessive soil moisture contents were conducive to delayed and low germination. The inhibitory effect of the glumes was more pronounced in freshly harvested seeds. Germinability of seeds on the soil surface was poor, but shallow burial in soil increased germination.  相似文献

Changes in dormancy of Spergula arvensis seeds were studied during pre-incubation at constant temperatures and under a temperature regime that condensed the annual temperature cycle into 73 days. Each day in the regime represented the mean day and night temperatures and day lengths of 5 successive days of an average year in The Netherlands. Incubation occurred in water or loamy sand, in darkness. Germination of the seeds was tested in water or KNO3 over a range of temperature. Seeds were irradiated with saturating doses of red light. In half of the treatments, pre-incubated seeds were dehydrated at the transfer to the conditions of the germination test. Breaking of dormancy occurred under conditions of 'spring'. It did not depend on exposure to low‘winter’temperatures, but was induced by rising 'spring’temperatures. Seeds developed secondary dormancy in late‘autumn'. The expression of the changes in dormancy that were induced during pre-incubation depended on the conditions of the germination test. Light, nitrate and dehydration stimulated germination. The experiments predicted that field emergence from nitrate-poor soils that have not been dehydrated will be restricted to a short period in autumn, whereas disturbance of nitrate-rich soils followed by a dry spell will stimulate germination of S. arvensis seeds from early spring to late autumn. The data presented good explanations for the cosmopolitan character and the serious weediness of this species. Its classification as a summer or winter annual is discussed.  相似文献

The establishment of Lotus tenuis can interfere with colonization by Carduus acanthoides during the early post-burn recovery of Flooding Pampa grasslands. The purpose of this research was to determine the potential role of L. tenuis seeds as a source of allelopathic compounds involved in that interaction. Imbibed seeds of L. tenuis and aqueous leachates from them were bioassayed for their ability to inhibit germination and seedling growth of C. acanthoides , both on sterilized filter paper and on pasteurized soil as substrata. Germination and/or emergence of C. acanthoides were inhibited and root length was reduced on filter paper or soil, by both the presence of L. tenuis seeds and their leachate, at densities of L. tenuis near the maximum values observed in the field. Germination and seedling growth of C. acanthoides were less affected by the presence of L. tenuis seeds than by the addition of their leachate, and the presence of L. tenuis seeds or their leachate showed stronger effects on emergence of C. acanthoides from soil than on its germination on filter paper. Methods applied for leachate sterilization, ultrafiltration or autoclaving did not modify C. acanthoides responses. Neither the germination rate nor the root length of C. acanthoides seedlings were affected by solutions of polyethylene glycol with similar osmolarity to the leachates. We conclude that the release of inhibitory substances on to filter paper and into pot soil from imbibed L. tenuis seeds would be the mechanism responsible for the observed effects.  相似文献

Galinsoga quadriradiata (hairy galinsoga) and Galinsoga parviflora (smallflower galinsoga, gallant soldier) are very troublesome weeds in many vegetable row crops in Europe. To optimise management strategies for Galinsoga spp. control, an in‐depth study of germination biology was performed. Germination experiments were conducted to evaluate the impact of light and alternating temperatures on germination of a large set of Galinsoga populations. Seedling emergence was investigated by burying seeds at different depths in a sandy and sandy loam soil. Dormancy of fresh seeds harvested in autumn was evaluated by studying germination response in light at 25/20°C with and without nitrate addition. Seed longevity was investigated in an accelerated ageing experiment by exposing seeds to 45°C and 100% relative humidity. Galinsoga spp. seeds required light for germination; light dependency varied among populations. Seedling emergence decreased drastically with increasing burial depth. Maximum depth of emergence varied between 4 and 10 mm depending on soil type and population. In a sandy soil, emergence percentages were higher and seedlings were able to emerge from greater depths than in a sandy loam soil. Freshly produced G. parviflora seeds, harvested in autumn, showed a varying but high degree of primary dormancy and were less persistent than G. quadriradiata seeds that lack primary dormancy. Lack of primary dormancy of freshly harvested G. quadriradiata seeds and light dependency for germination may be used to optimise and develop Galinsoga management strategies.  相似文献

A glasshouse experiment was carried out to investigate the influence of increasing levels of nitrogen and phosphorus on the growth of six common weed species growing alone or in competition with spring barley (Hordeum vulgare). Capsella bursa‐pastoris, Chenopodium album, Papaver rhoeas, Sinapis arvensis, Spergula arvensis, Viola arvensis and spring barley were grown in pots with different levels of nitrogen (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 kg N ha?1) or phosphorus (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 60 kg P ha?1). The aboveground parts of the plants were harvested after 7 weeks and the dry weight of shoots, percentage N and P content of the shoot and uptake of N and P were determined. A linear or a polynomial model was used to describe the data. Growing alone, Spergula arvensis was the only weed species that increased its dry weight at the same rate as barley. Weed species with low dry weight increase had larger increases in percentage N or P content than barley, indicating a luxury accumulation of nutrients. The uptake of N and P per pot did not differ much between weeds and barley. V. arvensis and P. rhoeas accumulated least nutrients (per cent of dry matter) and Spergula arvensis accumulated most. Weeds grew poorly in competition with barley. The percentage N and P content in barley did not change when they grew in competition with weeds.  相似文献

Summary. Aqueous extracts of the ground seeds of thirteen weed species were assayed for their ability to inhibit the germination on filler paper of eight crop species. All of the extracts delayed germination of at least some of the crop species. Germination of some crop species was delayed when the crop seeds were surrounded by weed seeds on filter paper, The seeds of Abutilon theophrasti were inhibitory to tomato ( Lycopersicum esculentum ) germinated in sterile and non-sterile soil in the laboratory. The inhibition of germination was apparent under conditions which excluded light, water and minerals as factors in the competition. Chemical studies indicated that the inhibition by Abutilon seeds was due to free amino acids emanating from the seeds.

A survey in 1987 and 1988 revealed that basal glume rot, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. atrofaciens, occurred nearly everywhere in FRG. The symptoms of the disease usually consisted of water-soaked dark green to brown lesions on unripe wheat heads, mainly at the basal end of the glumes, which later became dark brown. Forty-six isolates of P.s. atrofaciens were obtained from glumes, seeds and leaves of wheat and barley. For a fast identification of the isolated bacteria, a bio-assay was developed. Four to five-day-old wheat seedlings, grown on wet filter paper in Petri dishes, were pricked at two-three sites with a dissecting needle contaminated with bacteria. After 2–3 days, pathogenic isolates induced brown to black spots. The bacterial isolates from wheat inhibited the growth of several fungi grown on potato dextrose agar. In contrast, an authentic isolate of P.s. syringae obtained from wheat showed no inhibitory effect. During screening for resistance, several cultivars of spring and winter wheat were tested in the greenhouse and/or field tests. The results revealed marked differences in the susceptibility of different cultivars.  相似文献

Pioneer plants are adapted to grow in unpredictable environments. These plants have evolved several traits related to seed morphology and germination to cope with this unpredictability. The main aim of this study was to investigate the effect of plant identity and maternal environment on seed mass and germination of Sinapis arvensis. This study was undertaken with S. arvensis plants grown in four experimentally manipulated resource availability scenarios: (i) nitrogen addition, (ii) water addition, (iii) nitrogen and water simultaneously added, and (iv) control. Plants grew under field conditions in an emerging plant community. Germination response was mainly affected by maternal plant identity. This reflects not only genotype quality but also phenotypic plasticity, which allows adaptation to habitat conditions. Seed coat colour together with mean seed mass per plant explained significant fractions of the variability in germination rate. Changes in the germination response because of maternal environmental effects were also detected. Germination rate decreased in seeds from nitrogen‐enriched conditions; this may be due to the induction of dormancy caused by high concentration of nitrogen in the seeds. Addition of water to maternal environment caused a decrease in total germination percentage and germination rate of seeds. Thus, our results provide evidence for maternal environmental effects on germination under field conditions. Furthermore, changes in germination timing, as detected in our study, may determine plant development and fitness in unpredictable conditions.  相似文献

Hairy vetch is a widely adopted cover crop in the United States. However, hairy vetch can become weedy in subsequent crops as seeds germinate after the cover crop growing season, which is largely attributed to seed dormancy. We conducted two field experiments to determine seed germination, viability and seed production phenology of two common hairy vetch cultivars in Blacksburg and Blackstone, Virginia, US. ‘Groff’ and ‘Purple Bounty’ seed were sown in October 2015 and May 2016 and germination was tracked until June 2017. Subsequently, ungerminated seeds were tested for viability. Both cultivars had <2% germination after the initial germination period, and <1% of seed recovered was still viable at the end of the experiments. We also conducted experiments to determine when these cultivars produce viable seed. Hairy vetch seeds were counted and tested for germination in the spring. Both cultivars produced seed beginning in late‐May, but most seed were not viable until mid‐June in Virginia. Our results indicate that seed dormancy is not the primary cause of hairy vetch weediness in subsequent crops as nearly all germination, 99% of the total germinated seed, occurred during the cover crop growing season. Also, if complete termination occurs before mid‐June in Virginia, it is unlikely viable seed will be added to the seed bank. To better utilise this cover crop species, cultivar selection and proper termination are important to prevent weediness.  相似文献

为筛选获得对青稞具有促生性能的联合固氮菌,从西藏不同地区青稞根际采集土壤样品,以Ashby无氮培养基进行菌株分离,利用凯氏定氮法测定分离物的固氮量,通过培养皿纸上萌发法测定其对青稞种子萌发和幼苗生长的影响,根据菌株形态、理化特性和16SrDNA序列分析进行固氮菌株的鉴定。结果表明:从西藏高寒地区青稞根际分离获得的72株联合固氮菌,和CK相比,氮增量为0.30~26.07 mg·L-1,其中有10个菌株的固氮量较高,氮增量为17.01~26.07 mg·L-1。种子萌发和幼苗生长试验表明:10株菌中6株菌的综合促生效果较好,即菌株20-2、22-5、23-3、26-1、35-2和39-5。和CK相比,种子萌发率提高了-7.14%~25.00%,茎粗提高了1.53%~13.74%,株高提高了-9.52%~7.60%,根长提高了9.41%~38.09%,须根数提高了-11.26%~12.57%,鲜重提高了-4.97%~57.73%。经过多相分类鉴定,这6株菌分属于根瘤菌属、类芽孢杆菌属、无色杆菌属和假单胞菌属。  相似文献

Seeds of Viola arvensis collected in different years and in different months within those years were buried in soil under natural seasonal temperature cycles, and changes in their germination requirements monitored. Seeds were dormant at maturity in May or June, but nondormant by autumn. During winter, some seeds entered dormancy, while others entered conditional dormancy, i.e. retained the ability to germinate at 15/6 and 20/10oC but not at other thermoperiods. Dormant and conditionally dormant seeds became nondormant the following summer. Seeds collected in 1981 exhibited an annual dormancy:nondormancy cycle, while those collected in 1982 exhibited an annual conditional dormancy:nondormancy cycle. The type of dormancy cycle found in these seed lots during their first year of burial persisted in subsequent years. Thirty–five and 36% of seeds collected in May 1983 and 1986, respectively, were conditionally dormant the following May, while only 5 and 9% of those collected in the same field in June 1983 and 1986, respectively, were conditionally dormant. Dormant seeds collected in 1981,1982 and 1984 and buried at 5oC during summer germinated to 0, 33 and 0% respectively, at 15/6oC in autumn. After the 1982 seeds became nondormant during summer, only 25% entered conditional dormancy when buried at 5oC, but after the 1981 and 1984 seeds became nondormant, 100% entered conditional dormancy at 5oC. Thus, the persistent seed bank of V. arvensis at a population site may consist of seeds with an annual dormancy:mondormancy cycle and others with an annual conditional dormancy:nondormancy cycle. This is the first report of the two types of annual seed dormancy cycles in the same species.  相似文献

Post-dispersal seed predation of non-target weeds in arable crops   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Field experiments were conducted to quantify the natural levels of post-dispersal seed predation of arable weed species in spring barley and to identify the main groups of seed predators. Four arable weed species were investigated that were of high biodiversity value, yet of low to moderate competitive ability with the crop. These were Chenopodium album, Sinapis arvensis, Stellaria media and Polygonum aviculare. Exclusion treatments were used to allow selective access to dishes of seeds by different predator groups. Seed predation was highest early in the season, followed by a gradual decline in predation over the summer for all species. All species were taken by invertebrates. The activity of two phytophagous carabid genera showed significant correlations with seed predation levels. However, in general carabid activity was not related to seed predation and this is discussed in terms of the mainly polyphagous nature of many Carabid species that utilized the seed resource early in the season, but then switched to carnivory as prey populations increased. The potential relevance of post-dispersal seed predation to the development of weed management systems that maximize biological control through conservation and optimize herbicide use, is discussed.  相似文献

Germination in the laboratory of seeds of Barbarea stricta and B. vulgaris was inhibited by 20–200 mg l?1 chlormequat chloride or daminozide. Seeds treated with chlormequat and then washed with water and kept on moist quartz sand remained dormant for up to 1 year, but dormancy could be broken at any time by treatment with gibberellic acid. Similar results were obtained with Capsella bursa-pastoris and Thlaspi arvense. In contrast, germination of other weed species, such as Spergula arvensis and Matrkaria perforata, took place in the presence of chlormequat and daminozide in concentrations of 5000–10000 mg 1?1. The relevance of the results to the duration of seed dormancy in the soil is discussed.  相似文献

Cleome viscosa is one of the most important weeds of warm‐season crops in southern Iran. Laboratory experiments were conducted to assess the impact of environmental factors on seed germination of C. viscosa . Freshly harvested seeds exhibited dormancy that was relieved (>90%) after immersion for 20 min in concentrated sulfuric acid. Regardless of the temperature regime, the final percentage of germination in light/dark (69.3%) was significantly higher than in complete darkness (58.3%). The optimum temperature for germination was 35/25°C in both light and dark. No germination was observed at constant temperatures of either 15 or 45°C. The thermal thresholds for seed germination, the base (T b) and the mean ceiling germination temperatures (T c(50)) were estimated to be 18.8 and 39.9°C, respectively. A base water potential ( Ψ b(50) ) of ?0.96 MPa was identified for C. viscosa seeds. The response threshold of C. viscosa to reduce 50% of maximum germination for salinity was estimated to be 255 mM. Seeds that were placed on the soil surface had the highest percentage of seedling emergence (77.3%), and no seedlings emerged from seeds placed at a depth of 6 cm. The findings of this study could help to improve the integrated weed management strategies for this species.  相似文献

A series of experiments investigated the light sensitivity of buried weed seeds both within and outside the soil gas microenvironment. Light sensitivity of Datura stramonium L. seeds was found to be increased markedly by a period of soil burial; seeds showed a pronounced germination response even in far-red light (724 nm). Despite this elevated light sensitivity (even to less than 0.01% of incident light), soil overlying buried seeds was sufficient to neutralize the germination trigger. Furthermore, in situ irradiation of buried seeds was found to be virtually ineffective as a germination trigger, showing that the gaseous environment surrounding buried seeds may represent the main obstacle to germination. It is suggested in this study that the soil environment restricts the removal of the germination-inhibiting products of fermentation metabolism. This suggestion is supported by the finding that gas exchange within the seed:soil complex, achieved by flushing with nitrogen, partially restores seed light sensitivity. In addition, it was found that with increasing sowing depth, the germination response was attenuated and also became less dependent on seed phytochrome photoequilibrium conditions. This demonstrates that the phenomenon of germination photoinduction can be reversed by other environmental factors that reduce or eliminate phytochrome physiological activity. Finally, it was shown that seed very low fluence response (VLFR) is triggered only when gas exchange around buried seeds co-occurs with light exposure.  相似文献

Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.) is one of the annual plants that were described recently as invasive weeds in Europe. This species is described as an invasive plant that produces seeds that are highly variable. Its production of variably sized seeds is regarded as promoting its spread in different environments. Experiments were carried out to determine the influence of the seed weight and temperature on germination and the influence of the seed weight and burial depth on seedling emergence. The seeds were divided into a number of classes of weight and the seed weight effect on germination was evaluated by Petri dish assays. In another experiment, the seeds were buried at different depths in a clay soil/sand mix to estimate the burial effect on germination and seedling emergence. The germination level of A. artemisiifolia was high overall, between 76.8% and 94.2%. The seed germination was modified by temperature but it was not influenced by the seed weight. The amounts of germination and seedling emergence were greater for the seeds on the soil surface and decreased with an increasing burial depth, from 2 to 8 cm. No germination or emergence was observed for the seeds that were buried at 10 and 12 cm. The lightest seeds were more sensitive to burial. A greater level of seedling emergence for those seeds that were placed near the soil surface could explain the success of this species in open habitats, where the probability of deeper burial is low. After high seed production, the management of A. artemisiifolia in fields could be partly achieved through soil tillage, burying seeds below 10 cm, and not carrying out deep soil tillage the following year.  相似文献

本实验旨在研究蒺藜状苜蓿种子发芽对外源激素的响应。使用6-BA、GA3、ABA、NAA、乙烯利I、AA和IBA共7种激素,每一激素各设0.1、1.0、1.5、2.0、5、10、201、000μmol/L共8种浓度梯度,浸湿滤纸发芽床,置50粒蒺藜状苜蓿种子进行发芽试验,以蒸馏水处理为对照,设3个重复,统计发芽率、发芽势、发芽指数和发芽天数。结果显示:外源激素20μmol/L 6-BA、GA3、乙烯利和5μmol/L IAAI、BA促进蒺藜状苜蓿种子发芽,NAA和ABA抑制蒺藜状苜蓿种子发芽,ABA抑制能力较强。  相似文献
