A paraprostatic cyst and lymphosarcoma were found in a neutered male cat that was being evaluated for monoparesis and pollakiuria. The cyst was first detected on physical examination as a palpable caudal abdominal mass. Survey radiography, intravenous urography and ultrasonography were used to further evaluate the cyst. The exact histological nature of the cyst was determined by post mortem examination to be a paraprostatic cyst of prostatic origin that communicated with the urethra. The lining of the cyst consisted of one to two layers of transitional epithelium which was continuous with prostatic ductules in several locations. This is the first reported paraprostatic cyst of prostatic origin in a cat.  相似文献

Clinical signs, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features, treatment, and outcome of two adult dogs with neurologic dysfunction resulting from hemorrhage into a quadrigeminal intracranial intra-arachnoid cyst are described. In dog 1, the cyst was hyperintense to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on T1-weighted MRI and hypointense to CSF on T2-weighted images. In dog 2, the cyst was isointense to CSF on T1- and T2-weighted images. Both dogs were treated with craniotomy and cyst fenestration. A large blood clot was removed from the lumen of the cyst in each dog. Dog 1 is clinically normal 3.5 years post-surgery and has a persistent cyst. Dog 2 had a good initial response to therapy but was euthanized 2.5 years post-operatively due to generalized seizures. The late onset of clinical signs in these dogs most likely resulted from hemorrhage into the cyst. Surgical fenestration and hematoma removal appear to provide a satisfactory treatment for adult dogs with an intracranial intra-arachnoid cyst and intracystic hemorrhage. Persistence of the cyst may occur in some dogs.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to determine the concentrations of the progesterone, oestradiol‐17‐β, vitamin A, C and β‐carotene in plasma and cyst fluid and to relate these values with cystic diameter and membrane thickness of Holstein cattle with ovarian luteal cyst. 1650 Holstein cows were examined for the presence of the ovarian cyst and luteal and follicular cystic ovaries were obtained following slaughtering in personal slaughterhouse in Konya‐Turkey. 15 Luteal and 15 follicular cystic ovaries were distinguished by rectal palpation and by post mortem ultrasonographic examination. Plasma and cyst fluid, hormone and vitamin analyses were carried out by EIA method and spectrophotometric measurement respectively. Although there was no relationship between β‐carotene and vitamin A in plasma and cyst fluid of both cyst type and hormone concentrations, the vitamin C concentration of cyst fluid was found significantly higher in luteal cyst than in follicular cyst. Moreover, there is a positive correlation among values of the vitamin C concentrations of cyst fluid and cystic membrane thickness, plasma and the cyst fluid progesterone concentrations, but there is a negative correlation among the vitamin C concentrations of cystic fluid and oestradiol 17β levels of plasma and cyst fluid. In conclusion, vitamin C concentration of cyst fluid supported ultrasonographic and endocrinologic findings. Also, it can be postulated that vitamin C is probably effective on progesterone synthesis in the luteal tissue of cyst.  相似文献

A 5-month-old male Great Pyrenees with symptoms of convulsions, circling, and a head tilt was referred to the Animal Medical Center of Nihon University. On a magnetic resonance image (MRI), a cyst in the posterior fossa was noted and a part of the cyst enhanced by gadoteridol. Based on MRI and clinical findings, the patient was tentatively diagnosed with a cyst formation tumor, and an operation to open the cyst and remove the part enhanced by contrast was performed. Postoperatively, the clinical course was good. Pathologically, the removed tissue was diagnosed as a gliosis with cyst formation.  相似文献

This report describes a spontaneous hybrid cyst in a Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat. A 52-week-old, male SD rat had a cutaneous cyst on the left mystacial pad. Histologically, the cyst wall showed infundibular differentiation with keratohyalin granules in the granular layer and matrical differentiation comprising basaloid epithelial cells with trichohyalin granules. The cyst cavity was filled with lamellar, flaky keratin and aggregates of shadow cells. Immunohistochemically, the infundibular-type epithelium was positive for cytokeratin (CK) AE1/AE3, CK KL1 and CK14 but negative for CK15, whereas the matrical-type epithelium was negative for all four CK isoforms examined. These immunohistochemical properties of the infundibular- and matrical-type epithelia were similar to those of the infundibulum and inferior segment of normal hair follicles, respectively. Based on these findings, the cyst was diagnosed as a hybrid cyst, comprising more than one type of cyst arising from various parts of the pilosebaceous unit.  相似文献

In 160 cows with ovarian cysts as determined by rectal palpation, differentiation was made of follicular cyst, luteal cyst, and cystic corpus luteum on the basis of milk progesterone concentrations estimated by an enzyme immunoassay before and at 10 days after cows were treated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Cows having a progesterone concentration in skim milk less than 1.0 ng/ml were considered to have follicular cysts and those with concentrations of 1.0 ng/ml or higher were regarded as the cases of luteal cyst or cystic corpus luteum. Luteal cyst was characterized by progesterone values remaining high in the cows for 10 days after treatment, and cystic corpus luteum was characterized by a decrease in progesterone concentration after cows were treated. By the rectal palpation procedure it was impossible to differentiate luteal cyst and cystic corpus luteum from follicular cyst. The frequencies of follicular cyst, luteal cyst, and cystic corpus luteum were 65%, 19%, and 16%, respectively. Of 104 cows with follicular cysts as defined by milk progesterone assay result, 73 (70%) responded to the treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone, the milk progesterone concentration increasing from 0.7 +/- 0.2 ng/ml (mean +/- SD) to 1.8 +/- 1.1 ng/ml. The accuracy of rectal palpation 10 days after treatment for judgment of luteinization of follicular cyst confirmed by milk progesterone analysis was only 30% (48 cows of 160).  相似文献

An 18-year-old Friesian mare with a large intrauterine cyst was examined by transrectal ultrasonography. There were several small to moderately sized intraluminal endometrial cysts, one of which connected via the myometrium to a large subserosal cyst, thereby effectively forming a 'transmural' cyst complex. During a videohysteroscopy, the intraluminal part of this transmural cyst was removed by electrocoagulation via a polypectomy snare. It was then possible to drain the large subserosal part of the cyst into the uterine lumen by transrectal massage, thereby confirming the presence of the transmural connection.  相似文献

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 13-year-old female Miniature Horse was evaluated for progressive unilateral exophthalmia of the left globe of 3 weeks' duration. CLINICAL FINDINGS: Results of a physical examination were unremarkable. Ophthalmic examination identified exophthalmus of the left globe with complete resistance to retropulsion and mild blepharoconjunctivitis. Computed tomography revealed a large, space-occupying mass within the left caudal maxillary and left conchofrontal sinuses. The mass extended into the left retrobulbar space and contacted the cribriform plate. Trephination yielded copious amounts of turbid yellow fluid. The diagnosis was a sinonasal cyst. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME: Subtotal surgical excision of the cyst via a frontonasal osteoplastic flap was curative, with complete resolution of the exophthalmus. Histologic examination confirmed diagnosis of a sinonasal cyst. There was no evidence of cyst recurrence by 4 months after surgery. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Sinonasal cyst should be a differential diagnosis for retrobulbar disease in horses. Exophthalmia may be the only clinical finding in horses with a sinonasal cyst.  相似文献

A cyst filled with fluid was found to be the cause of an enlarged antebrachium in a horse. Communication between the cyst and the elbow joint was demonstrated by: 1) finding, during radiographic examination of the elbow, radiopaque contrast solution instilled into elbow joint within the cyst; 2) finding cytological values in fluid aspirated from the cyst that were similar to those in fluid aspirated from the elbow joint; and 3) finding hyperechoic foci, assumed to be air bubbles, during ultrasonographic examination of the cyst after administration of air into the elbow joint. Communication of the cyst with the elbow joint was confirmed during post mortem examination of the affected limb.  相似文献

A two-year-old cat with episodic dyspnea was diagnosed with an intrapericardial cyst via two-dimensional echocardiography. The cyst directly compressed the right ventricle, resulting in cardiac tamponade. Centesis of the cyst was performed to reduce tamponade prior to surgery. At surgery, a large, fluid-filled cystic structure was found within the pericardium. The cystic structure was continuous with a pedicle of liver that passed through a small peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia. Surgical resolution was achieved by median sternotomy, midline pericardotomy, resection of the cyst, and diaphragmatic herniorrhaphy.  相似文献

A two‐year‐old female poodle with abdominal distention was diagnosed with concurrent enteric duplication cyst and lymphangiomatosis. Both lesions were shown as cystic structures, but some characteristic features of enteric duplication cyst were identified including a thick cyst wall and shared blood supply with the duodenum. Although it was challenging to discriminate between the types of cyst based on diagnostic imaging, this report describes the characteristics of each type of lesion using several different imaging modalities.  相似文献

Macroscopically visible Sarcocystis spp. cysts isolated from the skeletal muscle of slaughtered cattle were examined by light- and electronmicroscopy. Transmission experiments involving cats, dogs and a human volunteer were also carried out. The cysts could only be transmitted to cats which establishes them with a high degree of certainty as Sarcocystis hirsuta. The cyst wall (including protrusions) ranged from 3.3 to 7.0 micron in thickness and the individual cyst wall protrusions from 1.2 to 2.6 micron in width. Transmission and scanning electronmicroscopy revealed previously undescribed features of the cyst wall. It appears that, with increasing age, the cyst wall protrusions become larger and develop a highly irregular surface. Their attachments to the cyst wall are slender and widely spaced indicating that growth of the cyst continues without the formation of new protrusions. Within the protrusions the fibrils become disorganised and numerous osmiophilic granules appear. It is evident that major changes in the structure of sarcocysts can occur with age.  相似文献

Information regarding 7 dogs and 1 cat with a spinal arachnoid cyst is presented. All patients were evaluated with survey radiographs and myelography. Computed tomography (CT) following myelography, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and sonography, were used in some of the patients. These imaging techniques were evaluated to determine their efficacy in diagnosing arachnoid cysts, ascertaining the extent and internal cyst architecture and detecting associated spinal cord abnormalities. Survey radiographs were nondiagnostic in all patients. Myelographically, the arachnoid cyst was visible in all patients, with partial blockage to flow of contrast medium. CT provided additional information on localization and lateralization of the cyst, and allowed measurement of the degree of spinal cord compression. MR imaging enabled identification of an associated syringomyelia. Sonography was useful for defining the cyst wall and characterizing the internal architecture of the cyst cavity and adjacent spinal cord. Measurements of the degree of spinal cord compression could be made and were similar to measurements made from CT. Additionally, sonography was considered a useful technique for orientating the surgeon to the location and extent of the cyst. In the absence of the availability of CT or MR imaging for evaluating patients with an arachnoid cyst, sonography is considered a valuable technique for directly assessing the spinal cord for associated disease. Decompressive surgery was performed on 4 dogs and 1 cat, all with successful outcomes.  相似文献

The diagnostic challenge presented by an amelanotic uveal cyst with an atypical appearance in a 9‐year‐old Yorkshire terrier dog is reported. The dog was presented with a peculiar cystic neoformation adherent to the edge of the pupil of the right eye. The cyst wall was attached to the pupillary margin and it was bean‐shaped, measuring approximately 4.5 × 2.5 mm. It was white in colour with several red striations and a small brown spot in the middle, which conferred on it a peculiar appearance. The cyst could not be transilluminated and partially impaired vision. Apart from that, the ophthalmic exam revealed no other abnormalities and the eye showed no signs of inflammation. Ocular ultrasound revealed the cystic nature of the neoformation. During paracentesis of the anterior chamber, the cyst was deflated and both the cyst wall and fluid were aspirated. The tissue obtained was sent for a histological examination and was considered as corresponding to a uveal cyst. The dog improved from the post‐operative uveitis without any complication and after 24 months of follow‐up showed no recurrences.  相似文献

Congenital vitelline duct anomalies other than Meckel’s diverticulum are rare in animals. A cyst of approximately 8 mm in diameter was observed on the antimesenteric surface of the ileal serosa in a 10-week-old female Crl:CD(SD) rat. Microscopically, the cyst closely resembled the ileum, but it did not communicate with the ileal lumen. We diagnosed this case as a vitelline cyst derived from the vitelline duct based on the location where it developed and its histological behavior. In rats, only Meckel’s diverticulum has been reported with a congenital anomaly of the vitelline duct, and no other spontaneous anomalies including a vitelline cyst have been reported. This case may be the first report concerning a vitelline cyst in the rat ileum.

Clinical and histopathological findings of a congenital ocular dermoid cyst, located at the lower eyelid of a river female buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) calf were presented. A soft, fluctuant, non-tender, hyperaemic cystic mass was detected overlaying the left eye. Fine needle aspirate revealed filamentous debris with no malignant cells. The cyst was treated surgically by orbital exenteration and subsequently subjected to histopathological examination. The histopathological study disclosed a conjunctival dermoid cyst. This report is novel, in that; such ocular cyst has not previously been described in river buffalo calves.  相似文献

A 4-year old, male intact, captive-bred chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera) was presented due to progressive exophthalmos of the right eye over a 5-month period. Ophthalmic examination revealed exophthalmos with dorsal displacement of the right globe. Retropulsion was decreased and a fluctuant, subcutaneous mass could be palpated posterior and dorsal to the central aspect of the zygomatic bone. Transdermal ultrasonography revealed a fluid-filled mass consistent with a cyst located within the ventral right orbit. Computed tomography demonstrated dorsal displacement of the globe, lateral displacement of the zygomatic arch, and numerous mineral-dense foci within the lumen of the cyst. The cyst was removed en bloc by ventral transpalpebral orbitotomy. Histopathology revealed a single capsulated cyst with multiple invaginated protoscolices, characterized by a prominent scolex with refractile hooklets, suckers, and abundant calcareous corpuscles consistent with a Taenia coenurus. Exophthalmos resolved with surgical therapy and there was no evidence of recurrence or postoperative complications over a period of 2 years. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of an orbital cyst of parasitic origin in a chinchilla.  相似文献

A 6-month-old Morgan colt was evaluated because of a 10-cm right-sided retropharyngeal swelling. The swelling was soft and moveable on examination, and palpation did not elicit signs of pain. Radiography revealed a large space-occupying mass ventral to the second cervical vertebra; ultrasonography revealed an anechoic fluid-filled structure with a well-defined hyperechoic capsule. Fine-needle aspiration yielded a viscous amber fluid. Cytologic evaluation indicated that the fluid was an exudate; anaerobic and aerobic bacterial culture did not yield any growth. Histologic examination of a portion of the cyst capsule revealed a connective tissue wall lined by pseudostratified columnar to cuboidal epithelium, consistent with a branchial cyst. The cyst wall was marsupialized to the skin, and iodine sclerotherapy was performed twice daily for 14 days, at which time forceps were introduced into the cyst and the cyst lining was removed. The site was allowed to heal by second intention, but 10 days later, the swelling recurred. An incision was made over the previous marsupialization site, and residual remnants of the cauterized cyst lining were removed with a forceps. The foal did not have any other complications during the subsequent 2 years. Branchial arch cysts are uncommon embryonic anomalies of horses, mice, cats, dogs, and cattle. Results suggest that marsupialization and iodine sclerotherapy may be a viable alternative to surgical excision in horses with branchial cysts; however, the entire cyst lining must be removed at the completion of sclerotherapy to prevent recurrence and abscess formation.  相似文献
