Three experiments conducted with weanling pigs evaluated the effects of vitamin E added to the drinking water or diet on plasma and tissue alpha-tocopherol concentrations. When natural or synthetic vitamin E was used, it was added at an IU-equivalent basis, but natural vitamin E was 73.5% (mg basis) of the synthetic vitamin E. Experiment 1 used 18-d-old weanling pigs (n = 120) in a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments in a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates. The first factor evaluated the dietary levels of natural vitamin E (RRR-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) added at 0, 50, or 300 IU/kg, whereas the second factor was the natural vitamin E added to the drinking water at 0 or 100 IU/L. Pigs were bled at periodic intervals, and 1 pig per pen was killed at the end of the 21-d trial and tissues (liver, heart, lung, and loin) were collected for alpha-tocopherol analysis. When vitamin E was not added to the diet or water, plasma alpha-tocopherol declined over the 21-d period. Although there were some interactions (P < 0.01), tissue and plasma alpha-tocopherol concentrations increased linearly when vitamin E was added to the diet or water. Experiment 2 was a 3 x 2 factorial in a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates. A total of 96 pigs weaned at 18 d of age, with an initial BW of 6.2 kg, were fed a nonvitamin E fortified diet, but natural or synthetic (all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) vitamin E was added to their drinking water at 50, 100, or 150 IU/L. Pigs were bled at 0, 3, 7, 10, 14, and 21 d postweaning, with tissues (liver, lung, heart, and loin) collected for alpha-tocopherol analysis at d 21. The results indicated that plasma alpha-tocopherol concentrations increased (P < 0.01) as vitamin E increased, with greater tissue alpha-tocopherol concentrations (P < 0.01) when natural vitamin E was provided. Experiment 3 was conducted in 2 replicates, but pigs (n = 60) were not provided vitamin E in the diet or water for 7 d postweaning, and then natural or synthetic vitamin E was added to the drinking water as in Exp. 2 (50, 100, or 150 IU/L). Pigs were bled at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 24 h after being provided vitamin E to evaluate the absorption from each vitamin E source and level. Plasma alpha-tocopherol increased quadratically (P < 0.01) and plateaued at 8 to 10 h for each treatment group. These results indicate that adding vitamin E to the pig's water supply at weaning was more effective in increasing plasma alpha-tocopherol than when it was added to the diet during the initial 14 d postweaning, and that natural vitamin E was a superior source compared with synthetic vitamin E.  相似文献

为了评定大口黑鲈饲料中维生素A的需求量,本研究在基础饲料中添加不同量(0、1 000、2 000、3 000和4 000 IU/kg)的维生素A醋酸酯,配制5种不同维生素A含量(实测维生素A含量分别为415、1 406、2 755、3 501和4 646 IU/kg)的等氮等能饲料(粗蛋白质含量48.47%;总能18.15 M J/kg)。用上述饲料饲喂初始体重为(52.75±0.12)g的大口黑鲈49 d,每个处理设3个重复,每重复30尾鱼。结果表明:随着饲料中维生素A水平从415 IU/kg升高到2 755 IU/kg,试验鱼的增重率、特定生长率、饲料效率和蛋白质效率均显著升高(P0.05);而随饲料维生素A水平的进一步增高,上述指标则呈平稳的趋势。随着饲料中维生素A水平从415 IU/kg升高到3 501 IU/kg,鱼的肝脏中维生素A含量、肝脏总超氧化物歧化酶活性、血清溶菌酶活性,头肾白细胞呼吸爆发活性、血清补体活性及血红蛋白含量显著升高(P0.05),而肝脏丙二醛含量显著降低(P0.05);随饲料维生素A水平的进一步增高,上述指标变化幅度较小。饲料中不同维生素A水平对鱼的血清总蛋白含量和红细胞压积的影响不显著(P0.05)。分别以增重率和肝脏维生素A含量为评价指标,采用折线模型求得,大口黑鲈对饲料中维生素A的最适需求量分别为2 600和3 550 IU/kg;而以非特异性免疫为评价指标,通过方差分析得出的最适需求量与以肝脏维生素A含量为评价指标所得出的需求量相近。本研究得出,大口黑鲈对饲料中维生素A水平的最适需求量为2 600~3 550 IU/kg。  相似文献

The experiments examined the physiological response of growing cockatiel chicks to varying levels of dietary vitamin A (VA) or beta-carotene and the rate of liver VA uptake. Adult cockatiels breeding pairs (n=10 pairs) were fed a VA-deficient diet for approximately 90 days prior to onset of egg laying. Breeding pairs were then allowed to feed their chicks diets containing either 0 IU VA/kg, 4000 IU VA/kg, or 2.4 mg beta-carotene/kg. After 5 weeks, chicks fed 0 IU VA developed poor feathering, facial dermatitis and reduced body weight (p<0.05). Liver VA was higher in chicks fed 4,000 IU VA or 2.4 mg beta-carotene vs. those fed 0 IU VA (p<0.05). Duodenal beta-actin and 15,15'-dioxygenase mRNA expression was similar to that of growing chickens, and greatest for cockatiel chicks fed 0 IU VA (p<0.01). Chicks fed 0 IU VA had keratinization of the bursa and oral mucosa, and reduced bursa development and lymphocyte density (p<0.05). Finally, when chicks fed 0 IU VA were orally gavaged with 20 IU VA/g body weight, maximal liver retinol uptake occurred between 0 and 24 h and reached a plateau at 36 h. These data demonstrate that VA deficiency can be prevented with 4,000 IU VA/kg diet or 2.4 mg beta-carotene/kg diet, although beta-carotene conversion to VA may be lower in cockatiels than chickens.  相似文献

Individual dietary preferences and difficulty with animal training create challenges and nutritional concerns when evaluating a captive sea otter (Enhydra lutris) diet. The importance of vitamin A within the body reflects the necessity that it be ingested in adequate amounts to ensure optimal health. To compare levels of serum vitamin A concentrations from captive sea otters on daily oral vitamin A supplementation, serum samples from eight adult sea otters from three institutions were evaluated for serum vitamin A concentrations. The eight animals were fed a total of four different diets and received oral supplementation via three different methods. Multiple diet items were analyzed for vitamin A content and were found to have low to nondetectable levels of vitamin A. Oral vitamin A supplementation, as a slurry with dietary items, was shown to be effective and a mean serum concentration of approximately 170 +/- 51 microg/L was obtained for serum vitamin A concentrations in captive sea otters. Captive diets can be modified to increase vitamin A concentration and supplementation and, if accepted, can be used as a means to ensure adequate vitamin A intake.  相似文献

Leaves or fruit from 14 plants considered to be toxic to pet birds were administered by gavage to 15 pairs of canaries (Serinus canaria). Each bird was given 0.12 to 0.70 g of plant material. One pair served as a control and was given distilled water. The plant materials were flash-frozen in liquid nitrogen, pulverized, and resuspended in deionized water for administration. Of the plants tested, 5 (oleander, lupine, foxglove, yew leaves, and dieffenbachia) were considered highly toxic and were associated with acute death of birds. The remaining plant samples caused no, or only transient, clinical illness.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to quantitate feathering in several companion birds. Besides the ratio of feathers to whole body mass, feather length as well as feather weight were of interest. Furthermore, data on feather loss and growth rates were estimated. In general, it could be observed that the proportion of feathers relative to body mass varied between 14 (canaries) and 7.4% (lovebirds). Feather losses (outside the moult period) amounted to an average of 6.65 (canaries), 8.98 (budgerigars), and 8.43 (lovebirds) mg/bird/day respectively or 37 (canaries), 20 (budgerigars), and 17 (lovebirds) mg/100 g body weight/day (values of interest in calculating of protein requirements for maintenance). In canaries, the average growth rate of the developing feathers amounted to 2 mm/day. In contrast to the onset of feather regeneration, the growth rate of new feathers leaving the follicle was not influenced by the supplements used here. The regeneration period (first measurable feather growth) of a plucked pinion can be used as an indicator and objective parameter to test potential nutritional influences. Parallel to the improvement of nutrient supply the rates of feather losses and also replacement increased, whereas the rates decreased when seed mixtures without any addition of minerals, sulphurous amino acids, and vitamins were fed.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and vitamin E (DL-alpha-Tocopheryl acetate) on performance, digestion of nutrients and carcass characteristics of Japanese quails reared under chronic heat stress (34 degrees C). A total of 180 10-day-old Japanese quails were randomly assigned to six treatment groups, three replicates of 10 birds each. The birds with a 2 x 3 factorial design received either two levels of vitamin C (100 and 200 mg/kg of diet) or three levels of vitamin E (125, 250, or 500 mg/kg of diet). Then, 200-mg vitamin C/kg of diet, compared with that of 100 mg/kg of diet, and higher dietary vitamin E inclusions resulted in a higher performance. The interaction between vitamin C and vitamin E for final body weight change (p=0.01) and feed efficiency (p=0.02) was detected. Final body weight change and feed efficiency increased to a higher extent by increasing dietary vitamin C when higher vitamin E levels were fed. Carcass characteristics improved with an increase of both dietary vitamin C and vitamin E (p=0.004). The interactions on carcass characteristics were all significant (p=0.02) and manifested themselves in a way that they were improved to a higher extent by an increase of dietary vitamin C when higher vitamin E levels were fed. Digestibility of nutrients (DM, OM, CP and EE) was greater with higher dietary vitamin C (p < 0.02) and also with higher vitamin E (p=0.07). There were no interactions detected for digestibility of nutrients (p=0.32). Taken together, the results of the present study conclude that a combination of 200 mg of vitamin C and 250 mg of vitamin E provides the greatest performance in Japanese quails reared under heat stress and can be considered as a protective management practice in poultry diet, alleviating the negative effects of heat stress.  相似文献

A total of 312 post-mortem examinations of 178 canaries (Serinus canarius domesticus), 40 parakeets (Melopsittacus undulatus, Nymphicus hollandicus) and 94 parrots (Amazona aestiva, Psitaccus erithacus) were conducted at the Birds and Rabbits Service of the University of Liège, Belgium. After a detailed gross examination, tissue samples were collected for virological and/or bacteriological and/or parasitological examination to complete the diagnosis. In all cases, a microscopic examination of the proventricular mucus layer was undertaken for the detection of the anamorphic ascomycetous yeast Macrorhabdus ornithogaster, which causes the non-zoonotic but important disease in cage birds known as megabacteriosis. At the time of death, megabacteriosis was diagnosed respectively in 28% of canaries and 22.5% of budgerigars (P value for Fisher's exact test=0.5576), but was not diagnosed in parrots (P value for Fisher's exact test <0.0001). The incidence of megabacteriosis significantly increases along the years (P value for chi2 test <0.0001, Cramer's coefficient=0.3405). The most common gross lesions seen at necropsy of the 59 megabacteriosis cases was proventricular dilatation (86.1%). All the birds diagnosed as typical megabacteriosis cases were free of Salmonella spp. infections and of any parasitic infections. Four megabacteriosis cases (three canaries, one parakeet) were not included in statistical analysis as salmonellosis, pseudotuberculosis, coccidiosis and chlamydophilosis were diagnosed concomitantly in these birds. With the exception of megabacteriosis, the most frequent causes of death were protozoan (coccidiosis, lankesterellosis) infections (18.4%) and salmonellosis (17.1%) in canaries, and psittacosis (31.5%) and viral hepatitis (26.3%) in parakeets. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the bioavailability of 5 sources of vitamin A. It was hypothesized that some vitamin A products have protective coatings that are more resistant than others to rumen destruction and that such protection would result in greater tissue concentrations of vitamin A. Fifty-three yearling Angus x Brahman cattle, consisting of 39 steers and 14 heifers, were stratified by BW and sex and randomly assigned to 6 high-concentrate diet groups receiving no vitamin A supplementation (control) or vitamin A supplemented from the following sources: Microvit A (Adisseo, Acworth, GA), Rovamix A (DSM, Parsippany, NJ), Sunvit A, Lutavit A, and Microvit A DLC (Adisseo). The vitamin A treatment groups were fed daily 80,000 IU of retinol/animal in a low-retinol concentrate diet (78.5% oats, 10% cottonseed hulls, 8% molasses, and 2% cottonseed meal; DM basis) and a free-choice, poor quality (low carotene) hay for 84 d. Every 28 d, BW was determined and liver biopsies and plasma were collected and analyzed for retinol concentrations. All retinol treatments showed significant increases in liver retinol concentrations compared with control animals (P < 0.0001), which steadily decreased over time. At all collection times, Microvit A led to numerically, but not significantly, greater concentrations of retinol in liver than did all other treatments. However, at the end of the experiment, there was no significant difference in liver retinol concentration among Microvit A, Rovamix A, Lutavit A, and Microvit A DLC diets. When liver retinol concentrations at all collection times were considered, Microvit A and Rovamix A appeared to provide the most bioavailable vitamin A.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the immunomodulatory effect of high levels of dietary vitamin C in healthy and immunocompromised rohu (Labeo rohita) treated with aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). Four groups of rohu were fed experimental diets containing either no vitamin C or supplemented with vitamin C at 500 ppm for 60 days. On the first day of feeding, one group fed the high vitamin C diet and one fed the vitamin C deficient diet, were injected intraperitoneally with a single doses of AFB1 at 1.25 mg kg(-1) body weight. The effect of AFB1 and high dietary vitamin C on specific and non-specific immunity, and disease resistance against Aeromonas hydrophila were examined in the rohu. The ability of vitamin C to counteract immunosuppression induced by AFB1 was also examined. Specific immunity indicated by haemagglutination and haemolysin titres against sheep red blood cells (SRBC), and bacterial agglutination appeared to be unaffected by either the AFB1 treatment or the vitamin C enriched diet. A significant reduction was observed in the non-specific immunity of AFB1-treated fish, however, indicated by lowered bactericidal and lysozyme activities. High dietary vitamin C, on the other hand, enhanced the non-specific immunity of fish, including an enhanced phagocytic ratio and increased serum lysozyme activity. Feeding a high level of dietary vitamin C to AFB1-treated fish increased these parameters to levels similar to those found in control fish. High dietary vitamin C significantly (p < 0.05) enhanced protection against Aeromonas hydrophila infection in both healthy and immunocompromised fish. Results from this study help to establish the beneficial effect of dietary vitamin C on AFB1-induced immunosuppression, as well as confirming the immunostimulatory effect of vitamin C in rohu.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effect of a 3-month dietary protein restriction - protein provided 9% of energy (20% in control group). In this dietary restriction folic acid, vitamins B(2) and B(6) were delivered in amount three times above the standard level. It was observed that animals fed a protein restricted (PR) diet weighed about 5% less than animals consuming adequate diet, but the difference was not statistically significant. Enrichment of PR diet with vitamin B or folic acid caused tendency to further suppression of weight gain, and in case of vitamin B(6) these differences were statistically significant. However, such body weight (BW) suppression was not observed when all studied vitamins were used together. Significant reductions in relative liver weight (vitamin B(2) addition), the heart (folic acid) and the lungs (vitamin B(6)) were observed. The PR diet, when all vitamins were added together, caused a decrease in weights of the lungs, heart and liver scaled to BW of rats, simultaneously with a significant increase in testis weight. Feed intake and feed conversion ratio were higher in animals given PR diet without a significant influence of vitamin supplementation (except vitamin B(6) causing further increase in feed conversion ratio). Hepatic fatty acids composition of rats was not affected by protein restriction, as well as by single vitamin supplementation. However, dietary supplementation of all examined vitamins together caused a decrease in monounsaturated fatty acids followed by an increase in polyunsaturated fatty acids participation in total fatty acids pool. It seems that enrichment of PR diet with a mixture of folic acid, vitamins B(2) and B(6) resulted in a partial reverse of growth suppression and reduction in testis size in rats.  相似文献

The absorption and metabolism of vitamin A is linked with that of lipids. It is known that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) affects the lipid metabolism in growing and lactating animals. In the present study, the hypothesis was investigated that dietary CLA influences vitamin A status of lactating rats and their pups during the suckling period. For this purpose, Wistar Han rats were fed either a control diet (control group, n = 14) or a diet containing 0.87% of cis‐9, trans‐11 and trans‐10, cis‐12 (1:1) CLA (CLA group, n = 14) during pregnancy and lactation. Vitamin A concentrations in various body tissues were determined 14 days after delivery in dams and 1, 7 and 14 days after birth in pups, and expression of selected genes involved in metabolism of retinoids was determined in dams. Vitamin A concentrations in liver, plasma and muscle were similar in control and CLA‐fed dams. Expression of genes involved in retinoid transport, storage and degradation in liver and adipose tissue in dams was also not different between control and CLA‐fed dams. Vitamin A concentrations in milk curd, sampled at d 1, 7 and 14 of lactation were not different between control and CLA‐fed dams. Vitamin A concentrations in liver, lung and adipose tissue were also not different in pups from control dams and pups from CLA‐fed dams. In conclusion, we show for the first time that dietary CLA has little effect on vitamin A concentrations and vitamin A metabolism in lactating rat dams and, moreover, does not influence tissue vitamin A concentrations in their newborn and suckling pups.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of vitamin E (dL-alpha-Tocopheryl acetate) and selenium (Se; Na2-SeO3) on performance, digestibility of nutrients and carcass characteristics of Japanese quails reared under chronic heat stress (34 degrees C). A total of 120 10-day-old Japanese quails were randomly assigned to four treatment groups, three replicates of 10 birds each. The birds with a 2 x 2 factorial design received either two levels of vitamin E (125 and 250 mg/kg of diet) or two levels of Se (0.1 or 0.2 mg/kg of diet). A 250-mg vitamin E/kg of diet compared with that of 125 mg/kg of diet and higher dietary Se inclusions (0.1 vs. 0.2 mg/kg) resulted in a better performance (p=0.001). The interaction between vitamin E and Se for feed intake (p=0.03), final body weight change (p=0.03) and feed efficiency (p=0.001) was detected. Carcass yield increased with increasing both dietary vitamin E and Se (p=0.001). The interactions on carcass characteristics were all non-significant (p > 0.06). Digestibility of nutrients (DM, OM, CP and ether extract) was higher with higher dietary vitamin E (p=0.03), and DM digestibility was also higher with higher dietary Se (p=0.05). There were no interactions detected for digestibility of nutrients (p=0.28). From the results of the present study, it was concluded that a combination of 250 mg of vitamin E and 0.2 mg of Se provides the greatest performance in Japanese quails reared under heat stress and this combination can be considered as a protective management practice in Japanese quail diets, reducing the negative effects of heat stress.  相似文献

Since 1956, when the Basle Zoo (Switzerland) initiated the breeding of lesser kudu (Tragelaphus imberbis), 43% of the lesser kudu juveniles died before reaching an age of 6 mo. In this study, the objective was to obtain the pathological findings, nutritional history, and family tree information in order to evaluate the influence of husbandry on juvenile mortality in these animals. The main cause of death was white muscle disease (WMD), diagnosed in 14 cases (26%) of the deceased juveniles. Although enclosure size had remained constant and animal accessibility to the public was constantly high, both herd size and juvenile mortality had increased from 1956-2004. The diet consumed by the whole group in 2004 had deficient levels of vitamin E and selenium. The increasing linear trend of the mortality rate since the 1960s was significant, and there was a significant correlation between herd size and overall juvenile mortality. In contrast, there was no correlation between herd size and the occurrence of juvenile mortality associated specifically with WMD. Other investigated factors (sex, inbreeding, and season) had no significant effect on overall mortality up to 6 mo of age or on mortality associated with WMD. These results characterize both a dietary and a husbandry problem, and are supported by a lack of similar juvenile mortality in another facility where the diet was supplemented with vitamin E, animal numbers were kept low, and the enclosure structure offered more retreat options for the animals.  相似文献

1. This study compared the effect of dietary supplementation with organic or inorganic selenium (Se) sources plus control amounts or large amounts of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol acetate) in broilers raised at control (20 to 24 degrees C) or low (14.5 to 16.8 degrees C) temperatures after 2 weeks of age. 2. The following dietary treatments were used from one day old. Diet 1, the control diet, comprised a commercial diet containing 0.15 mg/kg inorganic Se and 50 mg vitamin E/kg feed. Diet 2 was the same as diet 1, supplemented with 0.15 mg/kg inorganic Se. Diet 3 was the same as diet 2 but was supplemented with 200 mg/kg vitamin E. Diet 4 was the same as diet 1, but inorganic Se was replaced with 0.30 mg/kg organic Se. Diet 5 was the same as diet 4, supplemented with 200 mg/kg vitamin E. 3. Low temperature reduced the growth rate of broilers; however, at 6 weeks, there were no differences in the body weights of birds fed on organic Se supplemented diets housed at low or control temperature. The feed conversion ratio was significantly affected by low temperature but not by diet. The heterophil/lymphocyte ratio was higher in chicks after one week in the cold, indicating mild stress. Blood triiodothyronine levels were significantly higher in birds after 1 and 4 weeks in the cold but thyroxin was not affected. 4. Organic Se supplementation increased relative lung weight at the control temperature, which might lead to greater respiratory capacity. Relative spleen weight significantly decreased in broilers fed diets supplemented with inorganic Se under cold conditions, a possible indication of chronic oxidative stress. 5. At the low temperature, supplementation with organic Se alone, or with inorganic Se and vitamin E increased glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) activity and glutathione (GSH) concentration in the liver of broilers, which may indicate increased activity of birds' antioxidant defence against suboptimal environments.  相似文献

This report describes the evaluation of 2 avian cholera outbreaks in two canary (Serinus canaria) aviaries located in southern Brazil. The first outbreak had its onset after a thermal inversion, when the canaries exhibited clinical signs that included dyspnea, conjunctivitis, cyanosis, and death. The clinical progression of the disease, on average, lasted 2 days, and lead to a 40% loss of birds within the aviary. In the second outbreak the canaries also went through a thermal inversion, ending up with several cases of sudden death (60% of mortality) in a period of 24 hours. Canaries from both aviaries were submitted for microbiological evaluation, where isolates of Pasteurella multocidamultocida, which were resistant to sulfonamide, oxytetracycline, and enrofloxacin, were identified. After the analyzing the antimicrobial susceptibility profiles, canaries in both aviaries were treated with amoxicillin. Following 3 weeks of treatment, the outbreaks were controlled.  相似文献

We conducted two trials to determine the effects of added dietary pyridoxine (vitamin B6) or thiamin (vitamin B1) on growth performance of weanling pigs. In Exp. 1, weanling pigs (n = 180, initially 5.55 +/- .84 kg, and 21 +/- 2 d of age) were fed either a control diet (no added pyridoxine or thiamin) or the control diet with added thiamin (2.8 or 5.5 mg/kg) from thiamin mononitrate or pyridoxine (3.9 or 7.7 mg/kg) from pyridoxine HC1. These five diets were fed in meal form in two phases (d0 to 14 and 14 to 35 after weaning), with identical vitamin concentrations in both phases. From d 0 to 14 after weaning, pigs fed added pyridoxine had increased (quadratic, P < .05) ADG and ADFI; pigs fed 3.9 mg/kg of added pyridoxine had the greatest improvement. From d 14 to 35 and 0 to 35, ADG and ADFI increased (linear P = .06) for pigs fed increasing pyridoxine. Growth performance was not improved by added thiamin. In Exp. 2, weanling pigs (n = 216, initially 6.08 +/- 1.13 kg, and 21 +/- 2 d of age) were fed a control diet or the control diet with 1.1, 2.2, 3.3, 4.4, or 5.5 mg/kg of added pyridoxine from pyridoxine HCl. From d 0 to 14 after weaning, increasing pyridoxine increased (quadratic, P < .05) ADG and ADFI; pigs fed 3.3 mg/kg of added pyridoxine had the greatest ADG and ADFI. Break-point analysis suggested a requirement estimate of 3.3 and 3.0 mg/kg of added pyridoxine to maximize ADG and ADFI, respectively. From d 14 to 35 or 0 to 35, increasing pyridoxine had no effect (P > .10) on pig growth performance. The objective of this study was to determine whether feeding high doses of vitamin D3 7 d before slaughter would increase muscle Ca++ levels and result in more tender loin chops. Market lambs (n = 4 callipyge and 4 normal in Exp. 1, and n = 16 calipyge and 16 normal in Exp. 2) were randomly and equally assigned to feeding groups based on callipyge genotype and experimental diet, (vitamin D3 or control). Serum Ca++, muscle Ca++, Warner-Bratzler shear force, and troponin-T degradation data were analyzed. In Exp. 1, vitamin D3 was supplemented at 1 or 2 x 10(6) IU/d. The 2 x 10(6) IU dose resulted in the greatest serum Ca++ reponse and was chosen for Exp. 2. In Exp. 2, serum Ca++ concentration was higher (P < 0.05) for normal and callipyge lambs fed the vitamin D3 diet than for the control diet fed lambs. Muscle Ca++ concentrations, however, were not higher (P = 0.28) for the vitamin D3-fed lambs. Warner-Bratzler shear values were higher (P < 0.05) for callipyge than for normal lambs, but no differences were observed with vitamin D3 supplementation. These data were supported by results from Western blot analysis of troponin-T degradation, in which no differences were observed for vitamin D3 vs control diet lambs at 14 d postmortem. This experiment showed that feeding 2 x 10(6) IU/d of vitamin D3 to market lambs, callipyge or normal, raised serum Ca++ concentration, but did not increase muscle Ca++ concentration. This lack of response in muscle Ca++ was likely the reason that no differences were observed for Warner-Bratzler shear force values or troponin-T degradation data between the vitamin D3 and control loin chops. A higher dose of vitamin D3 may be required to improve tenderness.  相似文献

本研究旨在确定中华鲟幼鲟对维生素C(VC)的营养需要量。配制含VC分别为0.5、59.8、119.5、239.1、478.1和956.2 mg/kg饲料的6组日粮(分别编号为C0.5、C59.8、C119.5、C239.1、C478.1和C956.2),连续投喂中华鲟幼鲟8周后,以生长速度、组织VC含量和部分相关酶活性来确定中华鲟对VC的需求量。结果表明,C0.5和C59.8组鲟鱼的增重率、饲料效率、蛋白质效率都低于C119.5组,进一步提高饲料VC含量,也没有显著变化(P>0.05);C478.1组的肝脏和肌肉组织VC含量达最高水平;C239.1组血清溶菌酶活性最高;C239.1组SOD活性最低。根据平均增重率和饲料效率做折线法分析表明,维持中华鲟最佳生长的饲料VC含量为108.5 mg/kg;肝脏中VC含量达最大时饲料VC添加量为309.4 mg/kg;肌肉中VC含量达最大时饲料VC添加量为273.3 mg/kg。  相似文献

本研究旨在评价日粮中添加维生素A对0~3周龄肉鸭生产性能、血清中维生素A含量和肠道发育的影响.选择1日龄健康北京鸭360只,随机分为5个组,每组6个重复,每个重复12只鸭,分别饲喂在基础日粮中添加0.2500、5000、10000、15000 IU/kg维生素A的试验日粮,试验期为3周.结果表明:日粮中维生素A水平为2 500 IU/kg即能满足北京鸭基本需要;维生素A添加水平在0~10000 IU/kg时,血清中维生素A含量随着日粮中维生素A添加水平的增加而极显著提高(P<0.01),10 000和15 000 IU/kg添加组之间差异不显著(P>0.05);2500 IU/kg组的绒毛长度、十二指肠隐窝深度和肠壁厚度均显著或极显著高于0 IU/kg组(P<0.05或P<0.01),但与其他组差异不显著(P>0.05).由此可见,饲料中适量增加维生素A的添加水平可提高北京鸭生产性能,增加肠道的绒毛长度;肠道绒毛的发育状况和血清中维生素A均可以作为评价肉鸭维生素A营养状况的指标.  相似文献
