The influence of guar and xanthan gum and their combined use on dough proofing rate and its calorimetric properties was investigated. Fusion enthalpy, which is related to the amount of frozen water, was influenced by frozen dough formulation and storage time; specifically gum addition reduced the fusion enthalpy in comparison to control formulation, 76.9 J/g for formulation with both gums and 81.2 J/g for control, at 28th day. Other calorimetric parameters, such as Tg and freezable water amount, were also influenced by frozen storage time. For all formulations, proofing rate of dough after freezing, frozen storage time and thawing, decreased in comparison to non-frozen dough, indicating that the freezing process itself was more detrimental to the proofing rate than storage time. For all formulations, the mean value of proofing rate was 2.97 ± 0.24 cm3 min−1 per 100 g of non-frozen dough and 2.22 ± 0.12 cm3 min1 per 100 g of frozen dough. Also the proofing rate of non-frozen dough with xanthan gum decreased significantly in relation to dough without gums and dough with only guar gum. Optical microscopy analyses showed that the gas cell production after frozen storage period was reduced, which is in agreement with the proofing rate results.  相似文献

Three different experiments were designed to study the effects of N fertilizer rate, timing and splitting, and the response to combined application of N and S fertilizer on the bread-making quality of hard red spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) over a 3-year period in Vertisols under rainfed Mediterranean conditions. The following parameters were analyzed: grain yield, test weight, grain protein content, gluten index and alveograph parameters (W: alveogram index; P: dough tenacity; L: dough extensibility; P/L: tenacity–extensibility ratio). The N rate experiment included rates of 0, 100, 150 and 200 kg N ha−1 applied on four different sites. The experiment was designed as a randomized complete block with four blocks. For the experiment on N timing and splitting, a single rate of 150 kg N ha−1 was used, different fractions being applied at sowing, tillering and stem elongation, at a single site; again, experimental design was a randomized complete block with four blocks. Finally, for the experiment on the response to combined application of N and S fertilizer, a single fertilizer dose of 150 kg N ha−1 was applied in two forms (urea+ammonium nitrate and urea+ammonium nitrosulfate) with one leaf application at ear emergence (zero, 25 kg S ha−1, 25 kg N ha−1, 25kgSha−1+25 kg N ha−1 and 50 kg N ha−1), also at a single site, using a split-plot design with four replications. Year-on-year variation in rainfall led to marked variations in wheat yield, grain protein content and bread-making quality indices. A close correlation was observed between rainfall over the September–May period and both grain yield and grain protein content (optimum values for both being recorded in the rainfall range 500–550 mm) as well as the alveogram index. A negative correlation was observed between mean maximum temperatures in May and both test weight and alveogram index (W). N fertilizer rate had a more consistent effect on bread-making quality than on grain yield. The highest values for grain yield were recorded at an N rate of 100 kg ha−1, while maximum grain protein content values were recorded at 150 kg ha−1. Application of half or one-third of total fertilizer N at stem elongation improved grain yield and grain protein content with respect to applications at sowing alone or at both sowing and tillering. Increased N rates led to a considerable increase in W values and to a reduction in the P/L ratio, thus improving dough balance, with a negative effect on the gluten index. Leaf application of N at ear emergence only affected grain protein content and the W index. Soil or leaf application of S had no effect on protein quality indices. The response of grain yield and grain protein content to fertilizer N differed from that reported for temperate climates.  相似文献

Response surface methodology described the effects of salt, lactic acid, shortening, and exogenous trehalose and dough mixing temperature (DMT) and their interactions on the three rheological and fermentation parameters. These included maximum dough height (Hm), maximum height of gas release (Hm′) and CO2 production, measured by the Rheofermentometer F3, and bread specific volume (Sp. Vol.) of frozen sweet dough. The models could estimate the four parameters with R2 values of 0.76, 0.69, 0.93, and 0.59, respectively. Salt significantly influenced all four parameters in a negative way. DMT affected positively the Hm and Sp. Vol. of bread. Lactic acid affected Hm only, but its interactions with other variables influenced all four parameters. Shortening level affected Hm′ and CO2 production positively and Sp. Vol. negatively. The added exogenous trehalose improved Hm, Hm′, and CO2 production significantly, but not the Sp. Vol. of bread. Among the three Rheofermentometer parameters, Hm showed the highest correlation with Sp. Vol. (R2 = 0.75). DMT for the maximum Hm and Sp. Vol. varied with the level of other ingredients. Trehalose alone could not overcome the challenges in a sweet frozen dough system to improve the Sp. Vol., and its combined effects with other ingredients will need to be evaluated to restore the impaired gas retention of the frozen sweet dough.  相似文献

A 3-year field experiment examined the effects of non-flooded mulching cultivation and traditional flooding and four fertilizer N application rates (0, 75, 150 and 225 kg ha−1 for rice and 0, 60,120, and 180 kg N ha−1 for wheat) on grain yield, N uptake, residual soil Nmin and the net N balance in a rice–wheat rotation on Chengdu flood plain, southwest China. There were significant grain yield responses to N fertilizer. Nitrogen applications of >150 kg ha−1 for rice and >120 kg ha−1 for wheat gave no increase in crop yield but increased crop N uptake and N balance surplus in both water regimes. Average rice grain yield increased by 14% with plastic film mulching and decreased by 16% with wheat straw mulching at lower N inputs compared with traditional flooding. Rice grain yields under SM were comparable to those under PM and TF at higher N inputs. Plastic film mulching of preceding rice did not affect the yield of succeeding wheat but straw mulching had a residual effect on succeeding wheat. As a result, there was 17–18% higher wheat yield under N0 in SM than those in PM and TF. Combined rice and wheat grain yields under plastic mulching was similar to that of flooding and higher than that of straw mulching across N treatments. Soil mineral N (top 60 cm) after the rice harvest ranged from 50 to 65 kg ha−1 and was unaffected by non-flooded mulching cultivation and N rate. After the wheat harvest, soil Nmin ranged from 66 to 88 kg N ha−1 and increased with increasing fertilizer N rate. High N inputs led to a positive N balance (160–621 kg ha−1), but low N inputs resulted in a negative balance (−85 to −360 kg ha−1). Across N treatments, the net N balances of SM were highest among the three cultivations systems, resulting from additional applied wheat straw (79 kg ha−1) as mulching materials. There was not clear trend found in net N balance between PM and TF. Results from this study indicate non-flooded mulching cultivation may be utilized as an alternative option for saving water, using efficiently straw and maintaining or improving crop yield in rice–wheat rotation systems. There is the need to evaluate the long-term environmental risks of non-flooded mulching cultivation and improve system productivity (especially with straw mulching) by integrated resource management.  相似文献

A new guar gum derivative (CMHTPG) containing anionic carboxymethyl and cationic 2-hydroxy-3-(trimethylammonio)propyl substituents was characterized with the help of a stress-controlled rheometer for its linear viscoelastic behavior in aqueous systems. The frequency-dependent elastic modulus (G′) and viscous modulus (G″) curves for 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 g/dl of aqueous CMHTPG solutions were found to cross at a given frequency. The crossover frequency value decreased with the increase of CMHTPG concentration. At 25 °C, the longest relaxation time was obtained to be 5.556 s for aqueous 2.0% CMHTPG solution while the shortest relaxation time to be 0.027 s for aqueous 0.5% CMHTPG solution, showing a strong concentration dependence on the viscoelastic properties. Moreover, the complex viscosity (η*) of aqueous CMHTPG solution was found to increase with the increase of CMHTPG concentration, and to decrease with the increase of frequency. By investigating the viscoelastic properties of aqueous CMHTPG salt solutions containing various concentrations of NaCl, it was observed that the addition of NaCl could lead to a slight increase in the G, G″ or η* value. Temperature was confirmed to have an important influence on the viscoelastic properties of aqueous CMHTPG solution. For aqueous 1.0% CMHTPG solution, the activation energy reflecting the temperature sensitivity of the complex viscosity was determined at the frequency of 1.0 rad/s and found to be 16.94 kJ/mol.  相似文献

An instrument for measuring the expansion capacity of dough was developed based on the application of a known negative pressure and measurement of the height reached by the dough using a dough height tracker. At a negative pressure of 74 cm of Hg, the same maximum heights were reached after expansion at all stages of processing from after mixing to end of proof. For this negative pressure (74 cm Hg), the expanded dough heights measured immediately after mixing for doughs from 9 hard and 10 soft wheat flours coincided closely with the heights reached by corresponding baked loaves (r=0.99). Pizza doughs were also found to give a good correlation with baked pizza height (r=0.78, significant at 1% level). The method was used to obtain information about the timing of the effects of bromate addition and flour lipid extraction during processing. An increase in dough expansion capacity from bromate addition was observed only after the final proofing stage. Gas cell fineness of the bread crumb, measured by CrumbScan software, was decreased by bromate addition but gas cell elongation was increased. Effects of lipid removal were different. An increase in expansion capacity occurred at all processing stages and gas cell fineness of the bread crumb was increased. Expansion capacity appears to be an inherent property of a dough and may have potential as a rapid measurement to predict baking performance.  相似文献

The late-season foliar application of urea may increase yield and grain quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Limited information is available regarding the effect of late urea spraying on the performance of wheat cultivars under various basal N fertilization rates. Field experiments were conducted during 2000 through 2002 to evaluate the responses of six winter wheat cultivars to foliar urea (30 kg N ha−1) treatment around flowering at low (67 kg N ha−1) and high (194 kg N ha−1) basal N fertilization rates. Following urea spraying at low N rate, all cultivars increased grain yields to a similar extent (by an average of 7.8% or 509 kg ha−1) primarily due to an increase in the 1000-kernel weight. No yield response to the late-season urea treatment occurred at high basal N rate where grain yields averaged 24.9% (1680 kg ha−1) higher than those at low N rate. In contrast, late foliar urea application similarly improved grain quality at both low and high N rates by an average of 5 g kg−1 (4.5%) for protein content, 3.2 cm3 (11.9%) for Zeleny sedimentation, and 20 g kg−1 (8.6%) for wet gluten. These quality increments were consistent in all growing seasons regardless of significant variations in grain yields and protein concentrations across years. However, most cultivars failed to achieve breadmaking standards at low N rate as quality increments associated with the urea treatment were relatively small when compared to those achieved by high basal N rate. Late urea spraying had no effect on the falling number, whereas some cultivars showed small, but significant reduction in the gluten index at both N rates. Cultivars improved the hectolitre weight with the late-season urea treatment only at low N rate. Significant cultivar × urea interactions existed for most quality traits, which were due to the cultivar differences in the magnitude of responses. Thus, late-season urea spraying consistently produced larger yields at low basal N rate, and resulted in cultivar-dependent increases in protein content, Zeleny sedimentation, and wet gluten at both low and high N rates.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted at Gatton and Dalby in southeastern Queensland to determine parameters associated with radiation interception and biomass and nitrogen (N) accumulation for the ley legume species, phasey bean (Macroptilum lathyroides (L.) Urban) and vigna, (Vigna trilobata (L.) Verdc.). Sesbania (Sesbania cannabina Retz.), a native legume species, and soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill)) were included in the study for comparison. The most important differences between species related to differences in radiation interception, radiation-use efficiency (RUE), N-accumulation efficiency and the partitioning of N to plant parts. During early growth, soybean intercepted more radiation than the other species, primarily because of its greater leaf area index (LAI). Sesbania had the highest RUE (1.08 g MJ−1) followed by phasey bean (0.94 g MJ−1), soybean (0.89 g MJ−1) and vigna (0.77 g MJ−1). The efficiency of N-accumulation was greater in soybean (0.028 g N g−1) and phasey bean (0.030 g N g−1) than in vigna (0.022 g N g−1) and sesbania (0.021 g N g−1). In all species, the proportion of N allocated to leaves declined throughout the experimental period, being more rapid in soybean than in sesbania and phasey bean. Despite this decline in total N partitioned to the leaves, both soybean and phasey bean maintained a relatively stable specific leaf nitrogen (SPLN) throughout the experimental periods although sesbania and vigna displayed rapid decreases in SPLN. The large variation between species in RUE and N-accumulation efficiency indicates that the development of ley legume cultivars with a combination of traits for more efficient legume production, water use and soil N-accumulation in the water-limited environments of the grain belt of eastern Australia may be possible. The sensitivity of forage production, water use and soil N-accumulation to variation in RUE and N-accumulation efficiency needs to be quantified using modeling techniques prior to embarking on screening programs to select appropriate germplasm for evaluation studies.  相似文献

The influence the quality and shelf life of baked product has previously been reported to be effected by the time and temperature of the baking process. In this study, dough was baked at 219 °C by using different ovens (conventional, impingement or hybrid) or with doughs of different sizes (large or small) for varying times. During baking the temperature profile at the dough center was recorded. Texture, thermal properties and pasting characteristics of baked product with reference to baking conditions were investigated. Small breads baked in the hybrid oven had the highest heating rate (25.1 °C/min) while large breads baked in conventional oven had the lowest heating rate (6.0 °C/min). When the data are viewed as a function of heating rate in this study, the enthalpy of amylopectin recrystallization, rate of bread firmness and the amount of soluble amylose were all-lower at the slower heating rate. The differences observed in product firmness following storage are potentially a consequence of the extent of starch granule hydration, swelling, dispersion and extent of reassociation; all of which are affected by the heating rate during baking.  相似文献

Traditional instruments used to evaluate dough and/or gluten rheological properties do not provide unambiguous separation of elastic and viscous behaviors. Recovery after shear creep and cyclic large deformation cyclic tensile testing were used here to decouple elastic and viscous effects. A large variation in the recoverable shear strain (∼7.2% to ∼28%) was seen for glutens from 15 U.S. popular common wheat cultivars with varying HMW subunits. Sedimentation values ranged from 29 to 57 ml for 12 hard wheat cultivars and 15 to 22 ml for three soft wheat cultivars. The tensile force at 500% extension ranged from 0.12 to 0.67 N for hard wheat glutens and from 0.10 to 0.20 for soft wheat glutens. However, the recoverable work after large extension was less than 40% of the total work of extension. In addition, recoverable work in tensile testing was highly correlated with the total work of extension (r2 = 0.97) and mixograph mix times (r2 = 0.81). Good to excellent bread volume was obtained for several cultivars from this sample set. This suggests that optimizing water absorption for mixing doughs to achieve maximal bread volume compensates for the wide range of viscoelastic behaviors of gluten.  相似文献

Rice is subjected to excessive waterlogging and flash-flooding on large areas in south and south-east Asia. Besides cultivars, submergence tolerance of plants is influenced by various agronomic practices. A field experiment was conducted at Cuttack, India during 1994–1995 to study the effect of method of stand establishment (direct seeding and transplanting), vigour of seed (low and high-density) or seedlings (N-fertilized and unfertilized), plant population (normal and 50% more) and N fertilizer (single basal and split application) on yield performance of lowland rice under conditions of natural submergence and simulated flash-flooding (impounding up to 90 ± 3 cm depth for 10 days at vegetative stage). Flooding reached a maximum depth of 80 cm in 1994 and 52 cm in 1995 under natural submergence. The crop performance was better in 1994 due to timely sowing in dry soil and delayed accumulation of water (43 days after sowing) than in 1995 when sowing was done late in saturated soil followed by early water accumulation (28 days after sowing). Grain yield of rice decreased by 30.0–33.6% due to simulated flash-flooding compared with natural submergence, and by 21.4–33.1% due to transplanting in July compared with direct seeding in May-end/early June. The yield of direct-sown crop increased by using high-density seed of 22.9–23.0 mg weight (5.2–9.0%), higher seed rate of 600 m−2 (2.2–2.3%) and basal fertilization at 40 kg N ha−1 (19.4–25.7%) compared with low-density seed (19.4–20.1 mg), 400 seed m−2 and no N, respectively. The yield of transplanted crop increased by using N-fertilized seedlings of 0.49–1.65 g weight (29.5–38.5%), higher number of seedlings at 155 m−2 (3.5–16.7%) and basal fertilization at 40 kg N ha−1 (31.9–32.5%) compared with unfertilized seedlings (0.19–0.79 g), 115 seedlings m−2 and no N. Split application of 40 kg N ha−1 — 50% each at basal and top dressing (105–115 days of growth after flash-flooding) — improved yield significantly (10.1–13.1%) over single basal application under simulated flash-flooding, but not under natural submergence conditions. Regression analysis indicated that relative contribution of various factors in increasing grain yield was in order: N fertilizer > seed density > seed m−2 in direct-sown rice, and N fertilizer > seedlings m−2 > seedling dry weight in transplanted rice. It was concluded that grain yield of flood-prone lowland rice can be increased by establishing the crop early through direct seeding using high-density seed and basal N fertilization.  相似文献

Twenty-four farinograms and accompanying flour characteristics obtained from a bakery were used to get additional information for baking characteristics of flours. Farinograms were digitized and four novel parameters were included for comparison: a and b were extracted from an equation of the form y = aebt; the height of the upper curve and the width of the farinograph curve at a time value equal to the dough development time. Stepwise multiple regressions were carried out relating bread volume to novel and existing parameters (water absorption, development time, arrival time, departure time, stability and degree of softening). Results indicated that four farinogram parameters, resistance, water absorption, a and b were related to bake height with an overall value of 61%. A relatively weak correlation (R = 0.44, P < 0.05) was detected between specific loaf volume and bake height.  相似文献

Total number of initiated leaves and duration from sowing to silking increases when photoperiod is increased during the photoperiod-sensitive phase in maize (Zea mays L.). Little is known, however, about possible other effects of photoperiod and incident photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) on rate of development and duration of life cycle. A study was undertaken to quantify effects of photoperiod and incident PPFD from sowing to the 15-leaf stage on rate of leaf appearance and duration of the grain-filling period. The short-season maize hybrid Pioneer 3902 was grown in growth cabinets from sowing to the 15-leaf stage with either (i) a 10 h photoperiod at high PPFD (650 μmol m−2 s−1), (ii) a 20 h photoperiod consisting of 10 h of high PPFD followed by 10 h of low PPFD (5–50 μmol m−2 s−1), or (iii) a 20 h photoperiod of high PPFD. From the 15-leaf stage to maturity the plants were placed under a 16 h photoperiod in a growth room. Increasing photoperiod from 10 to 20 h increased final number of initiated leaves and delayed silking but did not affect rate of leaf appearance. Doubling incident PPFD to a value similar to that under Ontario field conditions during the summer resulted in a 16% increase in rate of leaf appearance and in a significant increase in total number of initiated leaves. Differences in final number of initiated leaves and in rate of leaf appearance from sowing to the 15-leaf stage among treatments resulted in a 4-day difference in silking date between the 10 h photoperiod treatment and the two 20 h photoperiod treatments. Duration of the grain-filling period did not differ among the three treatments.  相似文献

Reduced plant biomass and increased plant-to-plant variability are expected responses to crowding in monocultures, but the underlying processes that control the onset of interplant interference and the establishment of hierarchies among plants within a stand are poorly understood. We tested the hypothesis that early determined plant types (i.e. dominant and dominated individuals) are the cause of the large variability in final kernel number per plant (KNP) usually observed at low values of plant growth rate (PGR) around silking in maize (Zea mays L.). Two hybrids (DK696 and Exp980) of contrasting response to crowding were cropped at different stand densities (6, 9 and 12 plants m−2), row spacings (0.35 and 0.70 m), and water regimes (rainfed and irrigated) during 1999/2000 and 2001/2002 in Argentina. The onset of interplant competition started very early during the cycle, and significant differences (P<0.05) in estimated plant biomass between stand densities were detected as soon as V4–6 (DK696) and V6–7 (Exp980). Plant population and row spacing treatments did not modify the onset of the hierarchical growth among plants, but did affect (P<0.02–0.08) the dynamic of the process. For both hybrids, the rate of change in relative growth between plant types was larger at 9 and 12 plants m−2 (ca. 0.12 g/g per 100 °C day) than at 6 plants m−2 (ca. 0.07 g/g per 100 °C day). For all treatments, the largest difference in estimated shoot biomass between plant types took place between 350 (V7) and 750 °C day (V13) from sowing, and remained constant from V13 onwards. Dominant plants always had more kernels per plant (P<0.05) than the dominated ones, but differences between plant types in PGR around silking were significant (P<0.05) only at 12 plants m−2. Our research confirmed the significant (P<0.01) curvilinear response of KNP to PGR around silking, but also determined a differential response between plant types: the mean of residual values were significantly (P<0.01) larger for dominant than for dominated individuals. Estimated ear biomass at the onset of active kernel growth (R3) reflected the variation in KNP (r2≥0.62), and was significantly (P<0.01) related to estimated plant biomass at the start of active ear growth (ca. V13). This response suggested that the physiological state of each plant at the beginning of the critical period had conditioned its reproductive fate. This early effect of plant type on final KNP seemed to be exerted through current assimilate partitioning during the critical period.  相似文献

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is a potential alternative crop being developed for fiber production. Because planting area varies dramatically from year to year, seed supplies may greatly exceed use so that the excess seed must be stored for one to several years. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of seed storage duration at 10 °C on germination, vigor, emergence, and yield. Replicated trials were established at Starkville, MS in 1999 and 2000 to evaluate field emergence and biomass yield of kenaf seed from five ‘Everglades 41’ (‘E41’) harvest year seed lots stored at 10 °C in ambient relative humidity for up to 4 years. Germination of these same seed lots under standard (20–30 °C) and cool (20 °C) temperatures, and seed vigor was evaluated over time. Field emergence was the same for the different seed storage durations up to 4 years, but was directly affected by drought conditions for each planted year. Biomass yields ranged from 12.39 to 14.57 Mg ha−1 in 1999 and 16.82 to 18.47 Mg ha−1 in 2000, but were not different between storage durations. Seed germination remained greater than 80% regardless of storage duration. Electrolyte leakage, based on conductivity, was 38–50% less with freshly harvested seed than seed stored for 4 years at 10 °C. However, neither the conductivity nor accelerated aging test were reliable predictors of field emergence. Kenaf seed stored up to 4 years at 10 °C retained germination rates acceptable for commercial use. Neither field emergence nor biomass yield was affected by seed storage duration.  相似文献

The corn dry-grind process is the most widely used method in the U.S. for generating fuel ethanol by fermentation of grain. Increasing demand for domestically produced fuel and changes in the regulations on fuel oxygenates have led to increased production of ethanol mainly by the dry-grind process. Fuel ethanol plants are being commissioned and constructed at an unprecedented rate based on this demand, though a need for a more efficient and cost-effective plant still exists.A process and cost model for a conventional corn dry-grind processing facility producing 119 million kg/year (40 million gal/year) of ethanol was developed as a research tool for use in evaluating new processing technologies and products from starch-based commodities. The models were developed using SuperPro Designer® software and they handle the composition of raw materials and products, sizing of unit operations, utility consumptions, estimation of capital and operating costs, and the revenues from products and coproducts. The model is based on data gathered from ethanol producers, technology suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and engineers working in the industry. Intended applications of this model include: evaluating existing and new grain conversion technologies, determining the impact of alternate feedstocks, and sensitivity analysis of key economic factors. In one sensitivity analysis, the cost of producing ethanol increased from US$ 0.235 l−1 to US$ 0.365 l−1 (US$ 0.89 gal−1 to US$ 1.38 gal−1) as the price of corn increased from US$ 0.071 kg−1 to US$ 0.125 kg−1 (US$ 1.80 bu−1 to US$ 3.20 bu−1). Another example gave a reduction from 151 to 140 million l/year as the amount of starch in the feed was lowered from 59.5% to 55% (w/w).This model is available on request from the authors for non-commercial research and educational uses to show the impact on ethanol production costs of changes in the process and coproducts of the ethanol from starch process.  相似文献

Genetic gains in grain yield and related phenotypic attributes have been extensively documented in maize (Zea mays L.), but the effect of breeding on the physiological determinants of grain yield is yet poorly understood. We determined genetic gains in grain yield and related physiological traits for seven maize hybrids developed for the central region of Argentina between 1965 and 1997. Gains were expressed as a function of the year of release (YOR). Hybrids were cropped in the field at five stand densities (from almost isolated plants to supra-optimal levels) during two contrasting growing seasons (E1 and E2). Water and nutrient stress were prevented and pests controlled. Genetic gains in grain yield (≥13.2 g m−2 YOR−1) were mainly associated with improved kernel number, enhanced postsilking biomass production, and enhanced biomass allocation to reproductive sinks, but computed gains were affected by the environment. Differences among hybrids arose at the start of the critical period, and were evident as improved mean radiation use efficiency (≥0.026 g MJ−1 YOR−1), enhanced plant growth rate at near optimum stand density (≥0.04 g pl−1 YOR−1), and improved biomass partitioning to the ear around silking (0.0034 YOR−1, only for E1). Improved biomass production after silking was related to an increased light interception (≥4.7 MJ m−2 YOR−1), and allowed for an almost constant source–sink ratio during grain filling. This trend determined no trade-off between kernel number and kernel weight. In contrast to previous studies, genetic gains were detected for potential productivity (e.g., maximum grain yield) on a per plant basis (i.e., under no resource competition), a promising aspect for the improvement of crop grain yield potential.  相似文献

Maize (Zea mays L.) kernel weight (KW) response to changes in assimilate availability per kernel during grain filling suggests that plants establish an early kernel sink potential that place them to grow close to a saturating assimilate availability condition during late grain-filling, meaning source limitations are common only early in kernel development. As maize reproductive efficiency in kernel set is not constant across different plant growth rates (PGR) around flowering, we used PGR per kernel during this period as an indicator of source availability per kernel. We tested whether PGR per kernel during flowering or during the effective grain-filling period were correlated to genotypic and environmental differences in final KW. Plant growth rate during both periods, KW, kernel growth rate during the effective grain-filling period, total duration of grain filling and kernel number per plant were measured in 12 commercial genotypes differing in KW sown at two sites under full irrigation. As expected from the curvilinear response relating kernel number per plant and PGR around flowering, increased PGRs resulted in higher PGR per kernel around this period (r2 = 0.86; p < 0.001). Differences in final KW due to genotypes or environments were significantly explained by the PGR per kernel around flowering (r2 = 0.40; p < 0.001), and not by the PGR per kernel during the effective grain-filling period. Genotypes differed in kernel growth rate (p < 0.001) and grain-filling duration (p < 0.001). The former was well explained by PGR per kernel around flowering (r2 = 0.66; p < 0.001), but showed no relationship with the PGR per kernel during the effective grain-filling period. Grain-filling duration was partially explained (r2 = 0.27; p < 0.01) by the ratio between PGR per kernel during the effective grain-filling period and kernel growth rate, but differences in duration were negligible compared to those observed in the ratio (∼41% versus ∼130%, respectively). Together, these results support the importance of source availability per kernel during early grain filling on the determination of maize potential sink capacity and final KW. Early resource availability per kernel was accurately estimated as PGR per kernel around the period of kernel number determination, which helped explain genotypic and environmental differences in maize final KW as well as in kernel growth rate.  相似文献

The physical properties of fruit are important in designing and fabricating equipment and structures for handling, transporting, processing and storage, and also for assessing quality. The study was conducted to investigate some physical properties of jatropha fruit at various moisture levels. The average length, width, thickness and 1000 mass were 29.31 mm, 22.18 mm, 21.36 mm and 1522.10 g, respectively, at moisture content of 7.97% d.b. The geometric mean diameter increased from 24.03 to 24.70 mm and the sphericity varied between 0.82 and 0.83 as moisture content increased from 7.97% to 23.33% d.b., respectively. In the same moisture range, the bulk and true densities decreased from 278 to 253 and 546 to 435 kg m?3, respectively, whereas the corresponding porosity also decreased from 49.08% to 41.84%. As the moisture content increased from 7.97% to 23.33% d.b., crushing strength was decreased from 275 to 79 N, whereas the angle of repose and surface areas were found to increase from 36.41° to 41.72° and 1815.73 to 1917.59 mm2, respectively. The static coefficient of friction of jatropha fruit increased linearly against the surfaces of three structural materials, namely plywood (47.81%), mild steel (62.88%) and aluminium (34.82%) as the moisture content increased from 7.97% to 23.33% d.b.  相似文献

Structure and health effects of inulin-type fructans have been extensively studied, while less is known about the properties of the graminan-type fructans in wheat. Arabinoxylan (AX) is another important indigestible component in cereal grains, which may have beneficial health effects. In this study, the fructan content in milling fractions of two wheat cultivars was determined and related to ash, dietary fibre and AX contents. The molecular weight distribution of the fructans was analysed with HPAEC-PAD and MALDI-TOF MS using 1H NMR and enzymatic hydrolysis for identification of fructans. The fructan content (g/100 g) ranged from 1.5 ± 0.2 in flour to 3.6 ± 0.5 in shorts and 3.7 ± 0.3 in bran. A correlation was found between fructan content and dietary fibre content (r = 0.93, P < 0.001), but with a smaller variation in fructan content between inner and outer parts of the grain. About 50% of the dietary fibre consisted of AX in all fractions. The fructans were found to have a DP of up to 19 with a similar molecular weight distribution in the different fractions.  相似文献
