  • ? In this study, longitudinal specific modulus of elasticity along the grain (specific MOEL = MOEL/ρ) as well as radial and tangential shear moduli (G LR and (G LT ) of Populus Deltoides wood were examined in free flexural vibration in a free-free bar method, where end-cracks produced manually in LT plane along and parallel to annual rings in four different sizes.
  • ? The effects of four different crack sizes (0, 6, 12, and 18 cm) on elastic parameters of the bars were examined for their vibration properties based on Timoshenko bar equations, in order to find a procedure to make a confident choice of a clear specimen among the cracked ones, considering three initial modes of vibration.
  • ? Based on research findings, a significant correlation existed between radial and tangential shear moduli of the clear bars as G LR was approximately 15 percents higher than (G LT . After making the shortest crack sizes, however, this correlation entirely faded. Statistically for 6 cm crack, decreases in specific MOE L for measurement on the tangential impact were not significant though they were for longer cracks.
  • ? It was also revealed that in specimen under the study if longitudinal specific modulus of elasticity from both LR and LT flexural vibrations were almost equal and G LR was slightly larger than (G LT , the user could be confident enough to consider the specimen without severe longitudinal cracks.

As very little is known about the impact of cold pre-treatments on insecticidal toxicity to the surviving stored-product insects, we examined the effects of cooling (?5 °C) on the toxicity of five contact insecticides to Sitophilus granarius adults from three populations (laboratory, field and selected). We determined: (a) weevil lethal time after exposure to ?5 °C, (b) the effects of two cold pre-treatments (LT20 and LT50—lethal time for 20 and 50 % of exposed adults) on 24 and 72 h recovery rates of laboratory adults after exposure to five insecticides and (c) deltamethrin, dichlorvos and malathion toxicity to two weevil populations with altered insecticide susceptibility after exposure to the LT20 and LT50 pre-treatments. The tested S. granarius populations showed no significant differences in their susceptibility to cooling. All insecticides except dichlorvos were more toxic to the laboratory weevils after 24 h than after 72 h recovery from the LT20 pre-treatment. Dichlorvos and deltamethrin were more toxic to the other two populations after 72 h of recovery. Comparing the effects of cold pre-treatment and non-treatment on the laboratory strain, no significant increase in the toxicity of insecticides was detected, while only deltamethrin was significantly more toxic to the field and selected populations recovering for 24 h (12.1 and 11.0 times, respectively) and 72 h (6.9 and 36.6 times) from the LT20 pre-treatment. In conclusion, only the shorter of the two cold pre-treatments was found effective in terms of increasing the insecticidal toxicity, especially against the populations with altered susceptibility to insecticides.  相似文献

Pear lace bug, Stephanitis pyri (F.) (Heteroptera: Tingidae) is a pest of apple and pear trees and ornamental Rosaceae plants in Mediterranean countries and palearctic region. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of temperatures on S. pyri in the laboratory. Development and fecundity of S. pyri reared on apple leaves (Pyrus malus L.) were investigated at five constant temperatures (20, 23, 26, 29 and 32 ± 1°C) and a 16L:8D photoperiod. Longevity was determined to be 12.6 days at 32°C and 58.7 days at 20°C for females, and 9.7 and 37.7 days for males. Females laid 186.9 eggs per female with the highest number achieved during 28.5 days of oviposition period at 26°C. Female lifetime fecundity was reduced at 32°C (40.0 eggs per female). While the net reproductive rate (R 0) was highest at 26°C, the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m ) was highest at both 26 and 32°C. The mean generation time (G) was estimated to be 27.2–78.4 days at 20 and 32°C, respectively. The longest development times for egg and total nymph stages were obtained as 22.0 and 24.9 days, respectively, at 20°C. S. pyri developed fastest from egg to egg in 24.3 days at 32°C. The lower developmental threshold (T 0) was 9.7°C and the thermal constant (K) was 517.3 degree-days for S. pyri. Thus, S. pyri is calculated to have 3.8 theoretical generations in Tekirdag. The optimum developmental temperature for S. pyri was 26°C.  相似文献

The predatory mite Typhlodromus pyri Scheuten (Acari, Phytoseiidae) has been reported as an important predator of the European red mite, Panonychus ulmi (Koch) (Acari, Tetranychidae) in apple culture and vineyards at below 25?°C. However, sufficient biological data was lacking on its efficiency at temperatures above 25?°C. Therefore, the purpose of the present laboratory work was to obtain experimental data on prey consumption during development as well as longevity and reproduction of T. pyri on apple leaf discs and in Plexiglas cells at constant temperatures of 25?±?2?°C and 30?±?2?°C with P. ulmi as prey.  相似文献

Thaumetopoea solitaria is a serious pest of pistachio throughout the Mediterranean and the surrounding region. In this study, contact and ingestion toxicities of Bifora radians, Fumaria officinalis, Humulus lupulus and Rhododendron ponticum extracts against T. solitaria larvae were examined under laboratory conditions. Dimethoate was used as a positive control. In the contact toxicity bioassays B. radians extract was the most toxic, causing 32% mortality. In the ingestion toxicity bioassays H. lupulus extract was the most active, causing 83% mortality after 48 h. This shows that H. lupulus is acting as a stomach poison. The LC50 and LC90 values for H. lupulus ingestion toxicity bioassays were 1.7 and 8.7%, respectively. The LT50 value was 29.3 h. Since H. lupulus extract caused >50% mortality even 6 days after application, its long lasting residual effect promises fewer applications. These results imply that H. lupulus has potential for use as a crop protectant against T. solitaria.  相似文献

The EU Plant Protection Product Directive 91/414/EEC recommends the EPPO/CoE Arthropod Natural Enemies Risk Assessment Scheme for guidance on how to conduct risk assessments for terrestrial non-target arthropods. This scheme is currently in the process of being revised by EPPO/ CoE. A major change will be the recommendation for the generation and use of ’Dose Response’ toxicity data instead of limit test data. In addition, the revised EPPO/CoE Non-target Arthropods Risk Assessment Scheme will replace the current arbitrary 30% threshold trigger value applied to limit test data, with a Hazard Quotient (HQ; = Ratio Application Rate/LC50 on Glass)), comparable to the successful approach adopted in the EPPO/CoE ’Honeybee Risk Assessment Scheme’. However, in order for this new approach to be implemented under 91/414/EEC, an appropriate regulatory HQ trigger value needs to be derived. Such an HQ trigger value has been established by calculating HQ values for the 2 recommended sensitive indicator species (T pyri andAphidius) for a wide range of products and validating opposite robust semi-field/field data. This validation indicated that an HQ trigger value of ≥ 12 forT pyri and ≥ 8 forAphidius spp., should be used to trigger higher-tier risk assessment and/or higher-tier testing for non-target arthropods. As these trigger values were validated with realistic semi-field/ field data they apply for both lethal and sub-lethal effects as well as single and multiple application scenarios. Due to the worst case assumptions used in this HQ validation analysis, no further uncertainty factors need to be applied for in-crop risk assessment. Whilst a small amount of uncertainty exists regarding the comparative sensitivity ofT pyri andAphidius spp. for off-crop non-target arthropod guilds of arthropods, this is balanced by the fact that the off-crop exposure assessment used in the HQ derivation, is at least an order of magnitude higher than that realistically likely in the field. This HQ approach and trigger value is an appropriate and conservative tool for tier 1 risk assessment, which should reduce the number of false positive results leading to unnecessary higher-tier testing.  相似文献

Knowledge of the twelve elastic constants of wood—three moduli of elasticity (E L, E R, and E T), three shear moduli (G LR, G LT, and G RT), and six Poisson’s ratios (μ LR, μ RL, μ RT, μ TR, μ LT, and μ TL)—is essential in some applications, e.g., in simulations or structural calculation software. The methodology for determining these parameters has been developed by different authors, but typically with different samples, which prevents conclusive comparisons. The aim of the present study was to assess both the methods and associated results of using ultrasound technology on three geometric specimens—multifaceted discs, polyhedrons, and prisms—to characterize samples from three wood species: Eucalyptus saligna, Apuleia leiocarpa, and Goupia glabra. The results from the ultrasound and static compression tests on the prism were obtained from another study by the authors’ group and used for a comparative analysis because the species belonged to the identical sample. In general, the moduli of elasticity and shear moduli were statistically equivalent to those obtained by the static test for the three geometries of the specimens. The results of the Poisson’s ratios depended on the type and geometry of the specimens. The polyhedral geometry showed the best results, whereas the prismatic results were the least suitable. From a methodological perspective, the polyhedron was easier to apply.  相似文献

Mortality ofHeliothis armigera (Hbn.) larvae due to nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) was significantly higher onGossypium barbadense (cv. DCH 32) than onG. birsutum (cv. LRA 5166) andG. arboreum (cv. K 10). A positive correlation existed between leaf area consumed and NPV mortality of the larvae. Among the three dosages of NPV tested, 2.16×108 polyhedral occlusion bodies (POB)/ml as ultra low volume application caused the maximum larval mortality. Probit analysis of time mortality responses showed that the LT50 was lower onG. barbadense than on other two species tested.  相似文献

Two strains of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorokin and two strains of Beauveria bassiana (Ballsamo) Vuillemin were evaluated for their potential use as biological control agents against the tea termite Microtermes obesi Holmgren. The strains were screened for relative pathogenicity, and the median lethal time eliciting 50% mortality (LT50) was calculated. In general, the M. anisopliae strains were more virulent with lower LT50 values than B. bassiana strains. The LT50 values ranged from 1.6 to 3.7 days. The median lethal concentrations (LC50) of all the isolates were also determined. The M. anisopliae strains had low LC50 values compared to B. bassiana strains. The LC50 values ranged from 35 to 140 conidia per termite. The strains were also tested for survival under laboratory nest conditions. All the isolates exhibited the ability to grow, sporulate and produce an epizootic in treated nest material. Field applications of the isolates also produced promising results.  相似文献

Methanol extracts of Bifora radians, Arctium lappa, Humulus lupulus and Xanthium strumarium were tested against the North American grape berry moth, Paralobesia viteana in laboratory and greenhouse assays. Egg hatch was reduced by B. radians and X. strumarium extracts, whereas larval mortality was observed in response to B. radians, X. strumarium and A. lappa. Given the high mortality against egg and larval stages of this pest caused by extracts of B. radians, further studies were performed to determine the dose?Cresponse relationships between extracts of this plant and oviposition and egg hatch of P. viteana. There was a significant reduction in egglaying and egg hatch with increasing extract concentration, with 0.1% extracts providing 80% mortality and 1% extracts causing more than 90% control. This study demonstrates the potential of this plant extract for crop protection against a key pest of grapes and suggests that additional crop pests and field tests should be pursued to determine the efficacy of B. radians extracts as a biopesticide.  相似文献

The effects of fungicides containing mancozeb or copper oxychloride, as principal active ingredients, on phytoseiid mites were investigated in a vineyard comprising four varieties (Prosecco, Cabernet Franc, Pinot gris and Merlot) and located in north-eastern Italy. Phytoseiid colonisation was different among the four varieties: Amblyseius andersoni and Kampimodromus aberrans were dominant on Pinot gris and Merlot, respectively, while Typhlodromus pyri was more common than the above species on Prosecco and Cabernet Franc. Applications of mancozeb fungicides significantly affected K. aberrans populations. Concerning T. pyri, a significant effect was observed on Cabernet but not on Prosecco. The effects of mancozeb fungicides on A. andersoni were less clear. The response of phytoseiids to fungicides containing mancozeb appeared to be mediated by the variety. Therefore, the choice of one or two varieties as a standard reference for field tests is recommended. These results also suggest that the side effects of fungicides on predatory mites should be studied on different phytoseiid species and, possibly, on susceptible and resistant strains in order to gain useful insights.  相似文献

The sustainable management of vole populations to reduce crop damage requires a reliable estimation of rodent density. The present study was conducted in 2011 in Asturias (NW, Spain) and aimed at developing a method for estimating the density of the water vole Arvicola terrestris cantabriae and the Lusitanian pine vole Microtus lusitanicus in apple orchards based on their presence signs. Previously, as A. t. cantabriae and the Iberian mole Talpa occidentalis occur simultaneously in the same habitats, we had to determine if earth mounds caused by these two species may be accurately differentiated. The results showed that presence signs may be used to discriminate the occurrence of A. t. cantabriae and T. occidentalis in areas of sympatry. The characteristics most interesting for species differentiation were the linear distribution pattern of the mounds and the occurrence of ‘earth sausages’ and ‘earth paths’, all of them typical of moles. The high correlation coefficients (r s ?>?0.88) obtained between animal captures and the presence of activity signs for the two vole species revealed that it is possible to estimate A. t. cantabriae and M. lusitanicus densities by using the presence signs. An estimating model adapted for apple orchards and for simultaneous sampling both voles is proposed. In addition, we confirmed that the three mammal species coexist frequently in the same orchards. The negative relation between A. t. cantabriae and M. lusitanicus numbers suggests a competitive displacement between species. The results of the present study have valuable applications for both crop protection and research purposes.  相似文献

Studies conducted in the 2000 cropping season at two different localities, Flaeming and Magdeburger Boerde in Germany, have provided new information on cereal aphid (Sitobion avenae (F.), Metopolophium dirhodum (Walker), and Rhopalosiphum padi (L.)) parasitoids in winter wheat; their species composition, relative abundance, hosts, and location effects. The average aphid population density was higher at Magdeburger Boerde and lower at Flaeming. Among the aphid species, Sitobion avenae was more abundant at Flaeming and Metopolophium dirhodum at Magdeburger Boerde. In total, eight species of primary parasitoids were recorded: Aphidius colemani Viereck, Aphidius rhopalosiphi DeStefani Perez, Aphidius uzbekistanicus Luzhetzki, Aphidius ervi Haliday, Aphidius picipes (Nees), Ephedrus plagiator (Nees), Praon gallicumStarý, and Praon volucre (Haliday). The predominant parasitoid species were Aphidius colemani and Aphidius rhopalosiphi on Metopolophium dirhodum and Aphidius uzbekistanicus on Sitobion avenae. A low number of hyperparasitoids were also recorded. Aphidius colemani was recorded for the first time in the open winter wheat fields in Germany, although it has been used as a biocontrol agent in glasshouses in many European countries and overseas. An analysis of the aforementioned information shows that Aphidius colemani detected as a parasitoid of cereal aphids in Germany is likely a result of an accidental escape of parasitoids from a glasshouse, as well as their successful overwintering and establishment in the area. This study provides baseline information essential for assessing future changes in aphid parasitoid species guild and dynamics in cereal fields in Germany.  相似文献

We monitored winter cereal fields in a Mediterranean arable crop system to obtain information about the aphid parasitoid species composition and the aphid–parasitoid interactions through the whole cropping cycle. Nine species of aphid primary parasitoids (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Aphidiinae) were identified. The most abundant species were Aphidius rhopalosiphi, Aphidius matricariae, Aphidius ervi and Lysiphlebus testaceipes. The genus Aphelinus sp. (Hym., Aphelinidae) was also identified. We determined seasonal host–parasitoid associations over the entire cereal crop cycle. A number of new such associations were recorded, which were previously unknown in Spain and Europe. Our results indicated broad associations of L. testaceipes and A. matricariae with cereal aphids; furthermore, the association of Aphelinus sp. with several cereal aphid species was also substantial. In the NE of the Iberian Peninsula, the cereal aphid parasitoids that we identified are able to develop throughout the crop season on one or more host species. Thus, the main aphid species can be parasitized effectively throughout the entire cereal crop cycle. We discuss the role of cereal aphid parasitoids in the region in the context of our experimental results.  相似文献

The relationship between the acute toxicity and feeding deterrent activity of ten compounds occurring commonly in essential oils was explored in order to determine whether they are acute toxins or antifeedants against stored-grain pests. Simultaneously, the objective was also to demonstrate the comparative efficacy against three post-harvest stored-grain pests. Thymol, carvacrol, eugenol and trans-anethole were specifically toxic, and linalool was a generalist feeding deterrent against all three species studied. Thymol was most toxic to Tribolium castaneum and Rhyzopertha dominica compared to carvacrol and eugenol but was least toxic to Sitophilus oryzae. Similarly, linalool deterred feeding of S. oryzae (FI50 = 0.025 mg/g of the wafer diet), T. castaneum (FI50 = 0.207 mg/g of the wafer diet) and R. dominica (FI50 = 0.482 mg/g of the wafer diet) at different concentrations; R. dominica beetles required about 20 times the concentration to deter feeding compared to S. oryzae and more than twice compared to T. castaneum. Comparison of toxicity and deterrent activity with respective artificial blends as binary mixtures revealed that synergism was not a generalized phenomenon, and the variations were both species as well as blend specific. Individual compound efficacy correlations were not ascertained, which suggests that artificial blends could be prepared to obtain potential mixtures for substantial control of stored-grain insect pests. The present study also implies that the compounds are mostly acute toxins, and whatever inhibition in feeding was obtained could be due to physiological toxicity rather than any interaction with gustatory receptors.  相似文献

Habrobracon hebetor Say (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is an ectoparasitoid that is used for inundative biological control of various lepidopteran insect pests. Lethal and sublethal effects of two biorational insecticides, methoxyfenozide and pyridalyl, were evaluated on H. hebetor under laboratory conditions. The adults were exposed to dry insecticide residues that were applied on glass plates. Bioassays showed that the LC50 values of methoxyfenozide and pyridalyl were 155 and 1,226 μg a.i./ml, respectively. The LT50 values of methoxyfenozide and pyridalyl were 2.1 and 3.3 days, respectively. The effects of methoxyfenozide and pyridalyl on larvae were tested using a dip method with field-recommended concentrations of either insecticide. The emergence rates were reduced by 24.4 and 29.3 % for methoxyfenozide and pyridalyl treatments, respectively. In order to assess the sublethal effects of low-lethal concentrations of methoxyfenozide and pyridalyl, adult wasps were exposed to the LC30 concentration of each insecticide, and demographic parameters of live wasps were recorded. Exposure of adults to low-lethal concentrations (LC30) negatively affected the fecundity, fertility, and sex ratio, and also the intrinsic rate of increase (r m), finite rate of increase (λ), generation time (T), and doubling time (DT). The longevity and net reproductive rate (R 0) of H. hebetor were not affected by sublethal exposure to these insecticides. The results showed that despite low acute toxicities of both insecticides on larval and adult stages of H. hebetor, they may negatively affect the population of the parasitoid and interfere in IPM programs.  相似文献

The extensive use of synthetic insecticides and fumigants for control stored-product insects has led to the development of resistance. Essential oils from aromatic plants may provide proper alternatives to currently used insect control agents. Essential oils from 20 Egyptian plants were obtained by hydrodistillation. The chemical composition of the oils was identified by gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer. Fumigant and contact toxicities of the essential oils were evaluated against Sitophilus oryzae. The inhibitory effects of the essential oils on acetylcholinesterase and adenosine triphosphatases activities were examined. The oils were composed of monoterpene hydrocarbons (i.e., limonene, sabinene, β-pinene and γ-terpinene) and oxygenated monoterpenes (i.e., terpinen-4-ol, β–thujone, 4-terpineol, α-citral and 1,8-cineole) with the exception of the oil of Schinus terebinthifolius which was contained sesquiterpenes, and the oil of Vitex agnus-castus which contained similar amounts of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. In the fumigation assay, the oils of Origanum vulgare (LC50 = 1.64 mg/L air), Citrus lemon (LC50 = 9.89 mg/L air), Callistemon viminals (LC50 = 16.17 mg/L air), Cupressus sempervirens (LC50 = 17.16 mg/L air), and Citrus sinensis (LC50 = 19.65 mg/L air) showed high toxicity to S. oryzae. In the contact assay, the oils of Artemisia judaica, C. viminals, and O. vulgare caused the highest toxicity to S. oryzae with LC50 values of 0.08, 0.09, and 0.11 mg/cm2, respectively. The oil of A. judaica (I50 = 16.1 mg/L) invoked the highest inhibitory effect on AChE activity, while the oils of C. viminals and O. vulgare were the most potent inhibitors to ATPases activity with I50 values of 4.69 and 6.07 mg/L, respectively. The results indicate that the essential oils of A. Judaica, O. vulgare, C. limon, C. viminals, and C. sempervirens could be applicable to the management of populations of S. oryzae.  相似文献

Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) are species used worldwide for the biological control of Lepidopteran pests, notably through inundative releases on millions of hectares. The optimal use of Trichogramma parasitoids in crop protection requires an accurate knowledge of their biology. More specifically, the importance of age factor in parasitoids during the time they forage in crops for host eggs (after initial release) and how the aging of host eggs could impact parasitoid biological traits may be important for overall efficiency in terms of crop protection. In this context, the importance of parasitoid female and host egg ages on parasitism rate and the development of offspring was studied in laboratory conditions on Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) and the eggs of the pest Lobesia botrana Denis and Schiffermüller (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). Host eggs tested were 1–2- and 3–4-day-old, while the ages of T. cacoeciae adult females varied from 1-day-old to 4-day-old post-emergence. When L.?botrana eggs were 3–4-day-old, they were less parasitized by T. cacoeciae than 1–2-day-old eggs, and this was not linked to the age of T. cacoeciae females. The age of parasitoid females has an effect on parasitism, as 1-day-old females produced fewer parasitized eggs than 2, 3, and 4-day-old females. For the total number of L. botrana eggs killed by T. cacoeciae, the two factors did not show significant effects. When L. botrana eggs were 1–2-day-old, parasitoid emergence increased according to the age of parasitoid females with the highest success observed for 3-day-old females. The lowest emergence rates were obtained with T. cacoeciae females 1-day-old. The development time was also longer with the young 1-day-old parasitoid females. This study demonstrated that both the aging of parasitoids and host eggs play a role in the subsequent development of parasitoid offspring. The importance of these results in the context of biological control programs involving Trichogramma parasitoids is discussed.  相似文献
