The development time, mortality, survivorship and reproduction of the cabbage aphidBrevicoryne brassicae (L.) were evaluated on detached leaves of sixBrassica species (cabbage cv. ‘Yalova 1’, cauliflower cv. ‘Early Snowball’, broccoli cv. ‘Marathon’, turnip cv. ‘Antep’, rapeseed cv. local variety, and wild mustard) at a constant temperature of 20°C. Total development time ofB. brassicae was the shortest (8.9 days) on cauliflower and the longest (10.4 days) on cabbage. Mortality of immature stages varied from 16% on cabbage to 88% on turnip. Longevity of the cabbage aphid was the shortest (6.2 days) on mustard, and the longest (21.8 days) on cauliflower. The net reproductive rate was highest (35.98) on cauliflower, and lowest (1.89) on turnip. The intrinsic rate of increase was 0.2345 on cauliflower, followed by 0.2009 on cabbage, 0.1976 on broccoli, 0.1662 on mustard, 0.1357 on rapeseed, and 0.0465 on turnip. Cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli were susceptible host plants for the cabbage aphid. Rapeseed, turnip and mustard showed resistance to the pest.  相似文献

A granulosis virus strain infecting Pieris brassicae (PbGV) was isolated from the dry temperate region of northwestern Himalayas as a potential microbial agent for its management. The effect of different botanicals (having insecticidal action against P. brassicae) on the bioefficacy of PbGV was evaluated under laboratory conditions using leaf disc bioassays on cabbage for improving the insecticidal performance of the PbGV. The synergistic action of different botanical extracts was evident in terms of reduction in LC50 values against different botanical extracts. Among different extracts, petroleum-ether extract of neem seed kernel (NSK) when combined with PbGV resulted in maximum reduction of LC50 value (4.39 × 102 occlusion bodies [OBs] ml−1) followed by methanolic extract (7.38 × 102 OBs ml−1) and aqueous extract (9.36 × 103 OBs ml−1) as compared with PbGV alone (1.85 × 104 OBs ml−1) for 2nd instar larvae of the test insect. These trends were found analogous in cases of 3rd and 4th instars of P. brassicae with different solvent extracts of NSK. The other botanicals evaluated, viz., Eupatorium and Artemesia, also resulted in reduction of LC50 values for 2nd, 3rd and 4th instars as compared with PbGV alone when different extracts were combined with virus for bioassays. The studies suggest that the PbGV in combination with botanical pesticides could be more useful as a bio-pesticide against cabbage butterfly (P. brassicae) in IPM programs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Experiments were conducted in field plots to evaluate the effects of broccoli residue on population dynamics of Verticillium dahliae in soil and on Verticillium wilt development on cauliflower under furrow and subsurface-drip irrigation and three irrigation regimes in 1994 and 1995. Treatments were a factorial combination of three main plots (broccoli crop grown, harvested, and residue incorporated in V.dahliae-infested plots; no broccoli crop or residue in infested plots; and fumigated control plots), two subplots (furrow and subsurface-drip irrigation), and three sub-subplots (deficit, moderate, and excessive irrigation regimes) arranged in a split-split-plot design with three replications. Soil samples collected at various times were assayed for V. dahliae propagules using the modified Anderson sampler technique. Incidence and severity of Verticillium wilt on cauliflower were assessed at 7- to 10-day intervals beginning a month after cauliflower transplanting and continuing until harvest. Number of propagules in all broccoli plots declined significantly (P < 0.05) after residue incorporation and continued to decline throughout the cauliflower season. The overall reduction in the number of propagules after two broccoli crops was approximately 94%, in contrast to the fivefold increase in the number of propagules in infested main plots without broccoli after two cauliflower crops. Disease incidence and severity were both reduced approximately 50% (P < 0.05) in broccoli treatments compared with no broccoli treatments. Differences between furrow and subsurface-drip irrigation were not significant, but incidence and severity were significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the deficit irrigation regime compared with the other two regimes. Abundance of microsclerotia of V. dahliae on cauliflower roots about 8 weeks after cauliflower harvest was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in treatments with broccoli compared with treatments without broccoli. Rotating broccoli with cauliflower and incorporating broccoli residues into the soils is a novel means of managing Verticillium wilt on cauliflower and perhaps on other susceptible crops. This practice would be successful regardless of the irrigation methods or regimes followed on the susceptible crops.  相似文献

BACKGROUND

Plants defend themselves from insect feeding by activating specific metabolic pathways. We performed a metabolomic analysis to compare the metabolome reorganization that occurs in the leaves of two genotypes of cabbage (one partially resistant and one susceptible) when attacked by Mamestra brassicae caterpillars.

RESULTS

The comparison of the metabolomic reorganization of both genotypes allowed us to identify 43 metabolites that are specifically associated with the insect feeding response in the resistant genotype. Of these, 19% are lipids or lipid-related compounds, most of which are modified fatty acids. These include glycosylated, glycerol-binding and oxidized fatty acids, the majority being associated with the oxylipin pathway. Some of the identified lipids are unlikely to be produced by plants and may be the result of biochemical reactions in the caterpillar oral secretions. A further 16% are phenylpropanoids. Interestingly, some phenylpropanoids were not present in the susceptible genotype, making them possible candidates for specific resistance-related compounds.

CONCLUSION

Our results suggest that glucosinolates do not have a clear role in the resistance to M. brassicae feeding on cabbage. Using an untargeted metabolomics approach, we associated the regulation of metabolic pathways related to lipid signalling and phenylpropanoid compounds with the resistance to this pest. © 2022 The Authors. The effects of crude extracts, fractions and isolated compounds from Vitex polygama Cham. and Siphoneugena densiflora Berg were evaluated on the development of Spodoptera frugiperda JE Smith, a destructive insect pest of corn and several other crops. The extracts and fractions were incorporated into an artificial diet at 1 mg g(-1) and offered to the insect during its larval stage. Length and viability of larval and pupal stages as well as pupal weight were assessed. Isolated compounds were tested through superficial contamination of the diet at 0.1 mg g(-1). Weight and viability of ten-day-old larvae were determined. Methanolic and hydroalcoholic S. densiflora extracts caused 100% larval mortality, while leaf and fruit hydroalcoholic extracts from V. polygama were the most active. Among the isolated compounds, flavonoids presented the best insecticidal results, and tannins the best larval growth inhibition.  相似文献

Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis subvar. cauliflora) is susceptible to wilt caused by Verticillium dahliae but broccoli (B. oleracea var. italica subvar. cyamosa) is not. Infection of broccoli and cauliflower by a green fluorescent protein-expressing isolate of V. dahliae was examined using epifluorescence and confocal laser-scanning microscopy to follow infection and colonization in relation to plant phenology. Plant glucosinolate, phenolic, and lignin contents were also assayed at 0, 4, 14, and 28 days postinoculation. V. dahliae consistently infected and colonized the vascular tissues of all cauliflower plants regardless of age at inoculation, with the pathogen ultimately appearing in the developing seed; however, colonization decreased with plant age. In broccoli, V. dahliae infected and colonized root and stem xylem tissues of plants inoculated at 1, 2, or 3 weeks postemergence. However, V. dahliae colonized only the root xylem and the epidermal and cortical tissues of broccoli plants inoculated at 4, 5, and 6 weeks postemergence. The frequency of reisolation of V. dahliae from the stems (4 to 22%) and roots (10 to 40%) of mature broccoli plants was lower than for cauliflower stems (25 to 64%) and roots (31 to 71%). The mean level of aliphatic glucosinolates in broccoli roots was 6.18 times higher than in the shoots and did not vary with age, whereas it was 3.65 times higher in cauliflower shoots than in the roots and there was a proportional increase with age. Indole glucosinolate content was identical in both cauliflower and broccoli, and both indole and aromatic glucosinolates did not vary with plant age in either crop. Qualitative differences in characterized glucosinolates were observed between broccoli and cauliflower but no differences were observed between inoculated and noninoculated plants for either broccoli or cauliflower. However, the phenolic and lignin contents were significantly higher in broccoli following inoculation than in noninoculated broccoli or inoculated cauliflower plants. The increased resistance of broccoli to V. dahliae infection was related to the increase in phenolic and lignin contents. Significant differential accumulation of glucosinolates associated with plant phenology may also contribute to the resistant and susceptible reactions of broccoli and cauliflower, respectively, against V. dahliae.  相似文献

本文对10个科I1种植物的茎叶进行抽提,测定抽提物对菜粉蝶成虫的产卵驱避作用,杀卵作用以及杀低龄幼虫的作用,并应用干扰作用控制指数(IIPC)作为评价指标米评价植物抽提物的作用效果。试验结果表I刿,苍耳Xantgium sibiricum Patrin与红宝巾Bougainvillea glabra Choisy对成虫的产卵驱避作用明显,其干扰作用控制指数分别为0.127、0.192,即防治效果分别达到87.3%、80.8%。  相似文献

在温室内采用笼罩观察,通过选择性和非选择性试验,在两营养级(作物-天敌)的基础上进一步研究了三营养级(作物-天敌-害虫)体系中烟盲蝽对5种不同植物种类的选择性。以落虫量为选择指标,烟盲蝽成虫选择性结果表明:黄瓜+粉虱成虫、番茄+粉虱成虫、茄子+粉虱成虫、菜豆+粉虱成虫之间不存在差异显著性,但对油菜+蚜虫的选择性较好。烟盲蝽成虫非选择性试验,以其产卵后初孵若蝽量和死亡率为衡量指标,结果表明,烟盲蝽初孵若虫量之间存在显著差异,排序为:黄瓜>番茄>油菜>菜豆>茄子;烟盲蝽死亡率之间存在显著差异,排序为:菜豆+粉虱成虫>茄子+粉虱成虫>番茄+粉虱成虫>黄瓜+粉虱成虫>油菜+蚜虫。烟盲蝽若虫选择性试验,以羽化率为选择指标,结果为:油菜+蚜虫>番茄+粉虱若虫>黄瓜+粉虱若虫>菜豆+粉虱若虫>茄子+粉虱若虫。另外,在茄子+粉虱若虫上的死亡率最高为90.5%,其次为菜豆+粉虱若虫90%,黄瓜+粉虱若虫71.4%,番茄+粉虱若虫42.9%,油菜+蚜虫40%。  相似文献

Biological control efficiency of an antagonistic, endophytic strain of Bacillus subtilis (strain BB) was evaluated against three strains of the black rot pathogen, Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), in four Brassica crops (cabbage, cauliflower, rape and broccoli) grown during three consecutive growing seasons and on two soil types, in two different areas in Zimbabwe. Strain BB controlled the disease caused by strain Xcc B-147 in all Brassica crops during the dry and short rainy seasons. A similar effect was observed in cabbage using the strain Xcc 33908. Biological control was effective in broccoli, but not in cabbage and rape during the main rainy season in clay loam soil and limited biological control effect was still observed when these crops were grown in sandy loam soil. The endophytic colonisation of cabbage roots by strain BB was confirmed by immuno-blotting during the whole growing season. Biological control of black rot with strain BB is discussed in relation to its effect on Xcc strains, Brassica crops and to the effect of weather and soil conditions.  相似文献

甘蓝蚜[Brevicoryne brassicae (Linné)]是烏魯木齐地区十字花科蔬菜上最主要的蚜虫。从9月下旬开始,在晚甘藍、晚苤藍及大白菜等蔬菜靠近地面的根、茎凹陷处,以及叶柄基部和叶片上产卵。蚜卵既可随寄主在菜窖里越冬;也可在菜株残体上露地越冬。露地越冬蚜卵,一般不能成为早春的有效蚜源,因其孵化率极低;孵化出来的少数干母,由于不能及时得到食料或因气候不适合,难以存活。越冬蚜卵于4月下旬孵化,5月中旬末产生有翅蚜,主要先在越冬寄生及冬蘿卜留种株上繁殖;到5月下旬至6月初,才陆續迁飞到春、夏十字花科蔬菜及春油菜上,大量繁殖和为害。7月下旬至8月初,晚甘藍与晚苤藍上的蚜虫便成为大白菜和冬蘿卜苗期的主要蚜源。甘藍蚜在烏魯木齐地区,无論是在菜窖里,或是在露地残株上,均不能以成蚜越冬。  相似文献

Twenty strains of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) were isolated from two major crucifer-growing valleys, Chitwan and Kathmandu in Nepal and characterized by biochemical and pathogenicity tests. Strains were homogeneous in bacteriological characteristics. The ability of a strain to induce high or low disease severity index (DSI) on three host plants, broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower, was interpreted as virulence. Strains that were associated with high or low virulence were significantly different (P>0.05). No relationship between virulence and biochemical characteristics was observed.  相似文献

大菜粉蝶Pieris brassicae是十字花科蔬菜上的重要害虫之一。本文通过田间观察结合室内饲养,系统描述了该虫各发育阶段的形态特征,记录了发育历期、生活史及其生活习性。大菜粉蝶在长春地区1年发生3代,以蛹越冬。成虫多产卵于叶背面,每块卵10~207粒。幼虫5个龄期,群集为害,随着幼虫龄期的增长,头壳宽度与体长逐渐增加,各龄期头壳宽度和体长生长模型为:yW=1.727e0.557x(R2=0.998)和yL=0.031x2+0.339x-0.013(R2=0.994)。取食白菜、油菜、甘蓝和萝卜4种寄主的幼虫发育历期存在显著差异,取食白菜发育最快,取食油菜的蛹最重,白菜和油菜更适宜其生长发育。本研究描述了大菜粉蝶各发育阶段的形态特征,明确了其主要生物学特性,为该害虫的识别监测和综合防控提供了理论基础。  相似文献

The pathogenicity of four isolates ofFusarium oxysporum obtained from infected cultivated rocket (Eruca vesicaria) and wild (sand) rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia) was tested on the following cruciferous hosts: stock, radish, wild and cultivated rockets, and various species in the cabbage tribe: cabbage (Brassica oleracea var.sabauda), cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var.botrytis), Brussels sprouts (Brassica oleracea var.gemmifera), broccoli (Brassica oleracea var.italica), turnip (Brassica rapa var.rapa). The results indicated that isolates ofF. oxysporum from cultivated and wild rocket belong to theforma specialis raphani. The isolates from rocket were pathogenic on cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, turnip, radish and stock; isolates ofF. oxysporum conglutinans from cabbage and radish, and the isolate ofF. oxysporum f.sp.raphani from rape obtained from the ATCC collection, were pathogenic on both cultivated and wild rocket.  相似文献

The egg parasitoidTrissolcus spp. is the natural enemy of the cabbage bug,Eurydema ornatum L. (Het., Pentatomidae), a destructive pest of cultivated and wild Crucifera. Its preferred host is the wheat bugEurygaster integriceps Put., the most important pest of wheat. In order to rear the parasite for biological control purposes, mass production of its hostE. ornatum is suggested. In a laboratory study, the fecundity ofE. ornatum feeding on garden cress and radish was significantly higher than on red cabbage, white cabbage, rape or cauliflower. The oviposition period was significantly longer on garden cress and radish than on the other Crucifera. There was no difference among the various Crucifera in terms of length of postoviposition period or number of eggs laid per female per day.  相似文献

本文研究了我国具有自主知识产权的新型化合物氟唑活化酯诱导大白菜对根肿病的抗病效果及诱导技术。荧光染色观察发现该化合物对根肿菌休眠孢子没有明显的杀死作用,但具有明显的诱导抗病效果。不同的诱导浓度、诱导间隔期和诱导次数对根肿病的诱抗效果均不同。温室盆栽试验结果显示,25 mg/L的氟唑活化酯间隔7 d诱导大白菜3次,对根肿病的防病效果最好,达到71.33%,与诱抗剂苯并噻二唑效果相当,显著高于杀菌药剂50%氟啶胺悬浮剂拌土的防效(63.32%)。田间从苗期开始用氟唑活化酯25 mg/L诱导大白菜3次,诱导间隔期为7 d,对根肿病的诱抗效果最好达69.99%±2.01%,略低于对照杀菌剂氟啶胺拌土施药。本文明确了新型诱抗剂氟唑活化酯诱导大白菜对根肿病的抗病效果,并系统研究了施药技术,为白菜根肿病的防治提供了新手段。  相似文献

Downy mildew resistance was previously identified from screening a Brassica oleracea collection against two standard UK isolates of Hyaloperonospora parasitica. Sources of resistance were chosen from this material and developed further in this study by generating doubled haploid (DH) and inbred lines. Seedlings from the new lines were tested for resistance to a larger collection of H. parasitica isolates collected in 2001–2002 and 2007–2008 from the main broccoli and cauliflower production regions of the UK. Three lines (derived from borecole or summer cabbage) were broadly resistant to the pathogen isolates. Three of the remaining lines exhibited strong isolate‐specific resistance; several examples of weak or basal level of resistance to some isolates were observed. A new H. parasitica variant collected in 2008 was virulent in the broadly resistant lines, but was avirulent in a line with narrow specificity of resistance. The F2 and BC1 seedlings derived from outcrossing each of the three broadly resistant lines to susceptible broccoli and cauliflower lines segregated in a manner indicating that the resistance was controlled by a single dominant gene. No susceptibility was observed amongst F2 seedlings derived from intercrossing the three resistant lines, indicating that they all share the same or closely linked broad‐spectrum resistance gene(s). DH lines were produced from F1 plants, and resistant plants were further backcrossed to produce broccoli and cauliflower‐like lines that could be useful pre‐breeding material. A combination of resistance from lines with broad and narrow specificity is recommended for controlling downy mildew in UK brassica production.  相似文献

An antifeeding (feeding deterrent) response by first- and fifth-instar larvae of Pieris brassicae was shown to be significant at sub-lethal levels of cypermethrin and permethrin, using leaf-discs treated with the pyrethroids by dipping. Permethrin was slightly more effective than cypermethrin both as an insecticide and as an antifeedant against fifth-instar larvae, but the reverse order of effectiveness was observed, with a marked difference in mortality, against newly-hatched larvae. When 1-day-old fifth-instar larvae were continuously given leaf discs treated with a solution of the pyrethroid (1 mg litre?1), up to the time of pupation, both cypermethrin and permethrin induced a significant extension of the larval period, with a reduction in the maximum larval and pupal weights, as well as a reduction in the total leaf-area consumed. However, at higher levels of both pyrethroids, lowering the temperature induced some irritancy, as indicated by regurgitation and frequent uncoordinated wriggling movements of the fifth-instar larvae. The advantages of cypermethrin as a protectant and as an antifeedant over permethrin are discussed.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Phenylacetaldehyde is a flower volatile and attractant for many nectar‐seeking moths. Acetic acid is a microbial fermentation product that is present in insect sweet baits. It is weakly attractive to some moths and other insects, but can be additive or synergistic with other compounds to make more powerful insect lures. RESULTS: Acetic acid and phenylacetaldehyde presented together in traps made a stronger lure than either chemical alone for moths of the alfalfa looper Autographa californica (Speyer) and the armyworm Spodoptera albula (Walker). However, this combination of chemicals reduced captures of the cabbage looper moth Trichoplusia ni (Hübner), the silver Y moth Autographa gamma (L.), MacDunnoughia confusa (Stephens) and the soybean looper moth Chrysodeixis includens (Walker) by comparison with phenylacetaldehyde alone. CONCLUSION: These results indicate both positive and negative interactions of acetic acid, a sugar fermentation odor cue, and phenylacetaldehyde, a floral scent cue, in eliciting orientation responses of moths. This research provides a new two‐component lure for the alfalfa looper A. californica and for the armyworm S. albula for potential use in pest management. The cabbage whitefly,Aleyrodes proletella, has developed to a key pest in brassica vegetable crops throughout Germany. In a 3-year project we investigated a biotechnical approach employing netting (0.8?×?0.8 mm meshsize) in combination with the native parasitoidEncarsia tricolor in an inoculative-inundative approach in organic Brussels sprouts under field conditions. In small scale plot experiments continuous netting from transplanting in May till October alone reduced whitefly larval densities by 77 % at peak infestation in all years. Remaining whitefly infestation under net was associated with the necessity of temporary net removal for the purpose of mechanical weeding, which caused primary whitefly infestation. Release of mass rearedE. tricolour under net at the first signs of larval infestation significantly increasedA. proletella-parasitation and reduced infestation compared to netted controls without release. Furthermore, at highest dosage in 2009,E. tricolor had a significant enhancing effect on raw yield and the quality level of marketable yield. Additional on-farm experiments without netting in 2008 and 2009 confirmed the control potential ofE. tricolor. Although the most important project mile stones have been achieved, namely (a)E. tricolour-establishment under net and in the open field, (b) enhanced parasitation corresponding with pest density decline and (c) a positive impact on yield and quality parameters, further research will be necessary. The focus should be on the initial infestation period, optimizing the timing, frequency and required dosage.  相似文献

In the years between 1890 and 1950 the use of tarred felt discs and naphthalene flakes enabled cabbage growers to controlD. brassicae in a for that time satisfactory way. Resistance- and residue problems with insecticides and the recent development of controlled release compounds resulted in a new approach of the use of insecticides and particularly of volatiles influencing behaviour. In field experiments dispersions of polymers loaded with the repellents tar and naphthalene were sprayed around the stem base of cauliflower plants and the effect of clay slurry discs mixed with these repellents was also studied. The degree of control was assessed by weekly stand scoring and by estimation of the root damage index. In a second series of field trials the results of the polymer dispersion discs mentioned were compared to those obtained by applying three component granules (a polymer, a copolymer and 30% naphthalene) or sprayed discs of a similar composition. Untreated and trichloronatetreated plants were used as a standard. Some of the naphthalene compounds almost equalled the effect of trichloronate on the development and size of the plants. The root damage indices, however, showed less favourable figures although their level was far below that of the untreated plants. Adaptation of the controlled release polymer compositions to particular field situations (pH, soil type) in the future may lead to a further improvement of the results.  相似文献
