Two hymenopteran parasitoids of the cactus scale Diaspis echinocacti (Bouché) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) on Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill. (Cactaceae) are recorded in Greece. Aphytis debachi Azim, 1963 (Aphelinidae) is first recorded for Europe and Plagiomerus diaspidis Crawford, 1910 (Encyrtidae) is first recorded for Greece. Preliminary data on phenology and natural enemies of the scale D. echinocacti on O. ficus-indica are presented. Parasitism of D. echinocacti by P. diaspidis reached 86% in southern Greece (Kalamata) and parasitism by A. debachi reached 9.3% and 12% in Kalamata and Athens, respectively. Two predators, Cybocephalus fodori Endrödy-Youga (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae) and a mite species (Prostigmata: Bdellidae), were found to be associated with D. echinocacti.  相似文献

Nicandra physaloides, a common weed in South America, was found to be infected by an isolate of Tomato severe rugose virus (ToSRV), a bipartite begomovirus. The plants developed severe yellow rugose mosaic and were collected in São Paulo State, Brazil. This isolate of ToSRV was transmitted by Bemisia tabaci B biotype from infected plants of N. physaloides to healthy plants of N. physaloides and tomato in a glasshouse. This is the first report of natural infection of N. physaloides by ToSRV in Brazil.  相似文献

Interaction between the phytonematode Meloidogyne enterolobii and the fungus Fusarium solani has caused direct and indirect losses in the entire guava production chain and consequent extermination of guava plantations throughout Brazil. The combined action of these two pathogens is known as “guava decline”. In order to obtain and assess Psidium spp. interspecific hybrids for resistance to the nematode M. enterolobii, interspecific crosses of P. guineense (susceptible araçá) x P. cattleyanum (resistant araçá); P.guineense (susceptible araçá) x P. guajava (susceptible guava) and P. cattleyanum (resistant araçá) x P. guajava (susceptible guava) were conducted. These crosses resulted in hybrid immune, susceptible and resistant to Meloidogyne enterolobii. The chi-square test rejected the hypothesis of monogenic inheritance with incomplete dominance, which corroborates that this trait has polygenic action. Predictions of genetic values ??and parameters were obtained by the REML / BLUP procedure, at individual level. Finally, the 30 selected individuals (immune and resistant) were obtained, which will be backcrossed with guava for the recovery of the agronomic traits desired and subsequent release of a new cultivar.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to determine egg and larval parasitoids of the beet armywormSpodoptera exigua Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), which is an important but sporadic pest in Turkey. High beet armyworm population levels were recently observed in fields of first and second crop maize in the southeast Mediterranean region of Turkey. The parasitoid species complex and its impact on the pest were analyzed in a 4-year study in first and second crop maize. The braconid larval parasitoidsMicroplitis rufiventris Kokujev,M. tuberculifer Wesmael,Meteorus ictericus Nees,Chelonus obscuratus (Herrich Schäffer) (an egg-larval parasitoid),Apanteles ruficrus (Haliday); the ichneumonid larval parasitoidsHyposoter didymator (Thunberg) andSinophorus xanthostomus Gravenhorst; and the egg parasitoidTrichogramma evanescens (Westwood) were found to be the natural enemies attacking the pest. Among the parasitoid species the solitary endoparasitoidH. didymator was the most prevalent species, being reared from 40.5% of the parasitized larvae found. Higher parasitism rates were recorded on first crop than on second crop maize in every year. Possible reasons for this difference in larval parasitism between two growing seasons include lower population of the pest and reduced insecticide applications in first crop maize fields which permitted higher parasitism. However, parasitoid activity was insufficient to counterbalance the population growth of the pest on subsequent second crop maize.  相似文献

Meloidogyne enterolobii (syn. M. mayaguensis) has been reported to cause severe damage in commercial guava orchards and other plants in Central and South American countries. Considering the risk of introduction and dissemination of this pest in the European region, M. enterolobii was placed on the EPPO A2 list in 2010. The use of non-host fruit species is a recommended strategy to manage root-knot nematodes in infested guava orchards. This study screened 89 plant genotypes from 25 fruit plants of economic importance, plus two susceptible controls (guava and tomato) for its host status to M. enterolobii. Three to eight months after inoculation, nematode reproduction factor (RF) was used to characterize host suitability of fruit crops to this nematode. Ten banana genotypes, six Barbados cherries, one fig, two grape rootstocks and six melons were rated as good hosts for this nematode. Sixteen fruit plants behaved either as non-hosts or poor hosts to M. enterolobii, including assaí, atemoya, avocado, cashew nut, citrus, coconut, grape, jabuticaba, mango, mulberry, papaya, passion fruit, sapodilla, soursop, starfruit and strawberry. For the future, field experiments in areas infested by this nematode are essential to confirm the greenhouse results. These non-host fruit species can replace in the future eradicated guava trees in fields severely infested by this nematode and become an economic option for growers where M. enterolobii is considered a serious problem.  相似文献

It is a species naturally and widely distributed in Asia and in oriental tropical and subtropical areas. This cerambyx is a post-harvest pest of bamboo belonging to several genera as Bambusa, Dendrocalamus, Phyllostachys, Sinocalamus, but it can also infest cultivated plants as Citrus spp., Gossypium, Liquidambar spp., Saccharum officinarum L., Vitis spp., and Zea mays L.  相似文献

The complex of Diaporthe (asexual morph) species occurring on soybean constitutes an important pathogenic group associated with diseases such as pod and stem blight, seed decay and stem canker. Stem canker, caused by Diaporthe aspalathi, has been reported as the most aggressive form of canker and its occurrence has limited soybean crop productivity in the southern United States. The main form of pathogen control is the use of stem canker resistant soybean varieties. In this study, strains of Diaporthe and Phomopsis were isolated from stem and seeds of soybean in different locations in South America during the years 1989–2014. Genomic DNA from 26 isolates were analyzed by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) techniques, and sequencing of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of ribosomal DNA. The molecular analysis of ITS sequences by alignment with those of ex-type strains deposited in GenBank and morphological characteristics allowed the identification of Phomopsis longicolla, D. phaseolorum var. sojae, D. caulivora and D. aspalathi. An analysis of the pathogenicity of 13 isolates of D. aspalathi inoculated in soybean genotypes carrying different resistance genes to stem canker (Rdm1, Rdm2, Rdm3, Rdm4, Rdm5 and Rdm?) enabled us to identify the occurrence of at least three races of D. aspalathi occurring in Brazil. Among the isolates identified as D. aspalathi, both molecular and phenotypic analyses showed clustering depending on the date of collection and pathogenicity, which revealed the existence of variability of the pathogen.  相似文献

Type IV pili of X. fastidiosa are regulated by pilG, a response regulator protein putatively involved in chemotaxis-like operon sensing stimuli through signal transduction pathways. To elucidate the roles of pilG in pathogenicity of X. fastidiosa, the pilG-deletion mutant XfΔpilG and complemented strain XfΔpilG-C were generated. While all strains had similar growth curves in vitro, XfΔpliG showed significant reduction in cell-matrix adherence and biofilm production compared with wild-type X. fastidiosa and XfΔpilG-C. The genes pilE, pilU, pilT, and pilS were down-regulated in XfΔpliG when compared with its complemented strain and wild-type X. fastidiosa. Finally, no Pierce’s disease symptoms were observed in grapevines inoculated with XfΔpilG, whereas grapevines inoculated with the wild-type X. fastidiosa and complemented strain of XfΔpilG-C developed typical Pierce’s Disease (PD) symptoms. The results indicate that pilG has a role in X. fastidiosa virulence in grapevines.  相似文献

Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is classified as one of the most harmful pest of tomato crops. Many species of predators and parasitoids including Trichogramma cacoeciae (Marchal) (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) are noted as potential candidates used for biological control of this pest. Therefore, the use of selective insecticides is critical to conserve and protect natural enemies in the field. This study assessed the side effects of insecticides on different development stages of T. cacoeciae under laboratory conditions. For this, eleven pesticides such as: Indoxacarb, spiromesifen, cyromazin, chlorfenapyr, cypermethrin, diafenthiuron, chlorantraniliprole, spinosad, azadirachtin, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) and virus HaNPV were tested. This study shows that indoxacarb, spiromesifen, chlorfenapyr, cypermethrin, diafenthiuron and spinosad had a negative effect on immature stages of Trichogramma. All insecticides residues on tomato leaves were found to be toxic to Trichogramma adults except azadirachtin, Bt and virus HaNPV. Therefore, the use of the tested natural products (azadirachtin, Bt and HaNPV) at the recommended doses is viable, having no negative impact on T. cacoeciae in tomato crops.  相似文献

In Israel, the cotton mealybug Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley, an invasive scale insect, was reported for the first time in the Jordan Valley in 2008 on basil (Ocimum basilicum) and bell pepper (Capsicum annuum). This mealybug is highly polyphagous with economic and environmental impacts. Since then, Ph. solenopsis has spread to almost every region of Israel and developed high populations on several ornamental plants, mainly Hibiscus sp. (Malvaceae) and Lantana sp. (Verbenaceae). It has become a pest in greenhouses, mainly on bell pepper, tomato, and eggplant (Solanaceae) and a serious threat in cotton fields. Fourteen species of insect natural enemies have been found in association with Ph. solenopsis in Israel the common ones were: Aenasius arizonensis (Girault) (Hym. Encyrtidae), Cheilomenes propinqua (Mulsant), Hyperaspis vinciguerrae (Capra); H. polita Weise, Exochomus nigripennis (Erichson), Parascymnus varius Kirsch and Scymnus flagellisiphonatus (Fursch) (Col., Coccinellidae). To date, the population density of Ph. solenopsis in Israel is steeply decreasing in most regions of Israel due to the activity of A. arizonensis. An identification key to distinguish between adult females of the eight species belonging to the genus Phenacoccus in Israel is also provided.  相似文献

The melon fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett) poses a serious threat to cucurbit production worldwide. Its management by conventional means remains difficult due to their proclivity to oviposite in fruit. In view of the increasing environmental safety concerns, use of biocontrol agents for sustainable pest control holds immense potential. Given this, the study intended to identify the cultivable bacteria inhabiting the intestinal tract of adult male and female melon fruit flies (Bactrocera cucurbitae) separately from field-collected population, and to assess the attractiveness of these bacteria to the fly. All selected bacterial isolates were identified and characterized based on morphological, biochemical and 16S rRNA gene sequence. Bacterial community identified in the gut of B. cucurbitae predominantly composed of Enterobacteriaceae followed by Staphylococcaceae, Enterococcaceae, Bacillaceae and Brucellaceae. Further, the laboratory bioassay was employed to examine the attractiveness of the supernatant as well as whole culture broth of 10 different species of bacteria to B. cucurbitae adults. Among these, Klebsiella oxytoca and Citrobacter freundii followed by Bacillus cereus were found highly attractive to fruit flies. The field experiment using supernatant of two bacteria demonstrated that the K. oxytoca was significantly more attractive to female flies followed by C. freundii.  相似文献

In Brazil, the first major invasion event of Bemisia tabaci was that of Middle East–Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1) species, formerly termed as B biotype, which commenced in the 1990s mainly by ornamental plants in São Paulo State. More than two decades after this invasion, the presence of the Mediterranean (MED) species of B. tabaci, formerly Q biotype, was reported in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost State of Brazil, and now in São Paulo and Paraná States, in southeastern Brazil. Specimens of whiteflies collected from commercial begonia, hydrangea, petunia and poinsettia greenhouses in São Paulo, and also from begonias and poinsettias collected in flower shops in Paraná, were all identified as belonging to MED species. Furthermore, the secondary endosymbionts Arsenophonus, Hamiltonella and Rickettsia of MED from São Paulo and Paraná were detected by PCR and their presence confirmed by sequencing and FISH analysis, and those results differed from MED detected in Rio Grande do Sul that harbored only Hamiltonella and Cardinium. Our results suggest a new MED invasion into Brazil and is associated with ornamental plants. The two MED populations are genetically different and suggest that they are separate invasions.  相似文献

Oligonychus yothersi (Acari: Tetranychidae) causes damage to a wide range of plants. The aim of this work was to record the occurrence of this mite species feeding on one-year-old plants of Eucalyptus urophylla in the field and describe the damages that this mite causes to plant species. This mite species was commonly found attacking E. urophylla plants in Viçosa (MG), Brazil. The observed damage was similar to that caused by herbivorous mites that feed directly on the leaf surface and cause premature falling of the attacked leaves. This fact indicates that this mite species may be a potential pest for eucalyptus plants and crops, which makes it essential to carry out further studies on this subject, especially during periods with low intensity of rainfall and humidity.  相似文献

Miscanthus x giganteus is a fast growing, perennial energy crop for temperate climates. Because of its high annual biomass production rates and its characteristics as a low-input crop, an expansion of field cultivation can be anticipated to cover increasing demands for sustainable biomass production. However, knowledge about pathogens that could have an impact on biomass production is still limited for M. giganteus. Here, we report about the isolation of the filamentous fungus Apinisia graminicola from necrotic leaf lesions of M. giganteus grown on a field trial plot in Northern Germany. Inoculation assays with the isolated A. graminicola strain confirmed its capacity to cause a leaf spot disease on M. giganteus. Additional inoculation assays revealed that A. graminicola also caused necrotic lesions on leaves of the model grass Brachypodium distachyon. Generally, symptoms of A. graminicola-caused leaf spot disease were stronger on B. distachyon compared to M. giganteus. Incubation temperatures above 22 °C during A. graminicola infection resulted in stronger disease symptoms on both, M. giganteus and B. distachyon leaves. Microscopic analysis of cross sectioned, infected leaf tissue revealed an epiphytic mycelium formation on the surface and an endophytic colonization of the mesophyll leave tissue, especially in M. giganteus. Our results revealed that the isolated A. graminicola strain is a causal agent of a leaf spot disease on grass leaves. Its potential on endophytic growth in M. giganteus might open new possibilities in studying this type of plant-fungal interaction on a cellular and molecular level in an energy crop.  相似文献

Potato virus Y (PVY) is the type-species of the genus Potyvirus, family Potyviridae, being reported as a major tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) pathogen in several regions of the world. Pepper yellow mosaic virus (PepYMV) was originally described as a resistance-breaking Potato virus Y (PVY) isolate on Capsicum annuum L. cultivars, and afterwards it was also reported infecting tomatoes in Brazil. In the present work, a search for sources of resistance to both PepYMV and PVY was conducted in a collection of 119 accessions belonging to seven Solanum (section Lycopersicon) species. This germplasm was initially evaluated to PepYMV reaction by mechanical inoculation followed by symptom observations and ELISA. Potential PepYMV resistance sources were identified for the first time in S. habrochaites, S. peruvianum, S. corneliomuelleri, S. chilense, S. pimpinellifolium, and one accession derived from an interspecific cross (S. lycopersicum x S. peruvianum). A sub-group of 24 accessions with negative serology for PepYMV was also challenged with a PVY isolate, followed by serological and molecular detection with universal primers. Solanum habrochaites ‘L.03683’ and ‘L.03684’ were the only accessions found with stable resistance to both viruses. These results confirm S. habrochaites as the most important source of multiple resistance factor(s) to distinct Potyvirus species.  相似文献
