Pseudolymphoma is a drug reaction to anti‐epileptics that is well recognized in humans; it has been reported in one cat but not dogs. In this report, lymphoma‐like clinical signs are suspected to be secondary to phenobarbital administration in a dog. A 2.5‐year‐old male, neutered Shepherd mix presented for a 3‐day history of progressive ataxia, dazed mentation, pyrexia, and lethargy. While hospitalized, the dog developed generalized lymphadenopathy and sustained pyrexia. The dog was receiving levetiracetam and phenobarbital for epilepsy, and serum concentrations of both were within standard therapeutic ranges. Abdominal ultrasound revealed hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and generalized lymphadenopathy. Cytology of the peripheral lymph nodes was consistent with reactive lymph nodes, and aspirates of the liver and spleen revealed histiocytic‐neutrophilic inflammation. Phenobarbital was discontinued and replaced with zonisamide. Within 24 hours, the dog was normothermic, and other clinical signs resolved within a week. This case highlights a potentially serious yet reversible adverse reaction to phenobarbital in a dog. This idiosyncratic reaction could be mistaken for neoplasia and is an important differential for lymphoma‐like signs in any dog administered phenobarbital.  相似文献

Background: Signs of tachypnea after sedation of febrile horses with α2‐agonists have been noted previously but have not been further investigated. Objectives: To examine the effects of xylazine and detomidine on respiratory rate and rectal temperature in febrile horses and to investigate if either drug would be less likely than the other to cause changes in these variables. Animals: Nine febrile horses and 9 healthy horses were included in the study. Methods: Horses were randomly assigned to sedation with xylazine 0.5 mg/kg or detomidine 0.01 mg/kg. Heart rate and respiratory rate were recorded before sedation and at 1, 3, and 5 minutes after injection. Hourly measurements of rectal temperature were performed starting before sedation. Results: All febrile horses experienced an episode of tachypnea and antipyresis after sedation. Rectal temperature in the febrile group was significantly lower at 1, 2, and 3 hours after sedation. In several measurements, the decrease was >1°C. Respiratory rate in the febrile group was significantly increased after sedation. All febrile horses were breathing >40 breaths/min and 3 horses >100 breaths/min 5 minutes after sedation. No differences were noted between the 2 treatments. No significant changes in respiratory rate or temperature were noted in the reference group. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Febrile horses can become tachypneic after sedation with detomidine or xylazine. The antipyretic properties of α2‐agonists need consideration when evaluating patients that have been sedated several hours before examination.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of different coccidiosis-preventing programs on performance and intestinal morphology of commercial turkeys. Three hundred fifteen1-d-old female commercial cross turkey poults (British United Turkeys, BUT Big 9) were distributed into 3 treatments with 5 replicates of 21 birds each. Three programs were evaluated from 1 to 70 d of age, where program 1 had no anticoccidial drug and no vaccination against coccidiosis; program 2 had an anticoccidial drug (maduramycin 1%, 5 ppm); and program 3 had a vaccination (commercial vaccine, 4 species of Eimeria). All the groups were challenged with a dose of oocysts sporulated (20,000/bird) of 2 species of Eimeria at 21 d of age. In the growing phase (d 0–28), BW, BW gain, and FCR were significantly greater in treated groups compared with control group. In the fattening phase, the performance was not affected by treatments. Treatments and coccidiosis challenge had no significant effects on intestinal villus height. These observations support other reports that confirm live oocyst vaccination can be used effectively as a preventive against avian coccidiosis in commercially reared turkeys.  相似文献

Draschia megastoma, Habronema microstoma, and Habronema muscae are the etiological agents of cutaneous habronemosis, commonly known as summer sores, an inflammatory cutaneous and ocular parasitic disease of horses and other equids transmitted by flies. Here, we describe a cluster of cutaneous habronemosis in five horses that showed single or multiple typical cutaneous ulcerative wounds located on the face, lower forelegs or hindquarters in Israel with the presence of typical \"sulphur granules.\" All affected animals were confirmed by histopathological and/or molecular methods to be infected by H. muscae. This constitutes the first report of cutaneous habronemosis in Israel in which the causative nematode, H. muscae, was identified by molecular means. Cutaneous habronemosis should be considered as a differential diagnosis in equids with cutaneous ulcerative lesions during the summer months, especially when affected animals are refractive to antibiotic treatment alone.  相似文献

自从抗菌药物在医学、兽医临诊实践中被广泛应用以来,已取得良好的疗效。但抗菌药既能发挥防治疾病的有利作用,也会对动物产生损害作用。盲目、滥用抗菌药物带来的危害值得人们关注和反思。抗菌药物的不良反应和滥用抗菌药物的危害,主要表现为细菌产生耐药性、动物体内菌群平衡失调等,其次是药物残留对公共卫生和环境的负面影响。论文强调在了解药动学和药效学原理(峰时间、峰浓度、药时曲线下面积、防突变浓度、抗菌后效应、最小抑菌浓度等)的基础上,指出应该坚持病因学诊断,制定科学的治疗方案,同时要遵守国家相关的法规和条例,做到依法防控疾病。  相似文献

Abstract: An 18-month-old male Doberman Pinscher was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of the College of Veterinary Medicine for an erythemic nodular mass on the right forelimb. The mass was diagnosed as cutaneous lymphoma, based on cytologic examination of a mass aspirate and histopathology. Using immunohistochemistry the neoplastic cells were positive for CD3 but negative for CD79a, E-cadherin, and pancytokeratin, confirming their origin as T lymphocytes. No tumor recurrence was noted 18 months after surgery. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a solitary nodular form of cutaneous lymphoma in a young dog.  相似文献

Canine sulfonamide hypersensitivity (HS) has been associated with a variant in the cytochrome b5 reductase gene (CYB5R3 729A>G), which encodes a drug‐detoxifying enzyme. Study objectives were to determine variant allele frequency in Doberman Pinschers (DOBE), a breed which may be predisposed to sulfonamide HS, and to characterize the effects of CYB5R3 729G on gene expression and function. CYB5R3 729A>G allele frequencies were compared between DOBE (n = 24) vs. non‐Doberman (non‐DOBE; n = 60) dogs. CYB5R3mRNA expression, protein expression, and reduction of sulfamethoxazole hydroxylamine were compared between banked canine liver samples of 729AA vs. GG genotype. The 729G allele was overrepresented in DOBE (1.00) vs. non‐DOBE dogs (0.567, p < .0001). mRNA and protein expressions as well as cyt b5 reductase activity were similar between livers of AA and GG genotype. All Doberman Pinschers in this study were homozygous for CYB5R3 729G, which could contribute to this breed's apparent predisposition to sulfonamide HS. However, CYB5R3 729G does not alter sulfamethoxazole detoxification capacity, so a direct role could not be demonstrated. It is possible that this marker is linked to another contributing variant.  相似文献

Insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH) is a serious equine disease with a complex etiology, affecting many breeds. The availability of a small closed population with a relatively high incidence of IBH (28%) offered the chance to contribute to a better understanding of the etiology of IBH. All 736 Warmblood horses, kept in lowland floodplain meadows in the Czech Republic, were analyzed in the period 1998-2010. The morbidity rate in the offsprings of particular stallions was significantly different; the lowest was 10% and the highest 75%. The assumption that the highest occurrence of healthy offspring would be in healthy parents and vice versa was confirmed. The sex of the offsprings was not significant. To decline the disorder prevalence in this population, stud stallions should be IBH negative; afflicted mares can be tolerated to a certain extent, but their male offspring must never be used as stud. Heredity control is necessary, and stallions with IBH+ offspring should be culled. There is to date no reliable treatment available, and therefore, the development of preventive measures is particularly important. The incidence of IBH could be lowered by prudent breeding, and thus immunotherapy and complex herd management would not be necessary. However, this would be a long-term and complex process.  相似文献

Right dorsal colitis in horses is a disease characterised by mucosal ulceration and oedema that is localised to the right dorsal colon. It is considered one of the more severe adverse effects associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), particularly phenylbutazone. Diagnosis is typically made based on a history of NSAID administration, the presence of hypoproteinaemia and hypoalbuminaemia, as well as ultrasound evidence of thickening and oedema of the right dorsal colon wall. Definitive diagnosis is made at surgery or necropsy. Treatment involves discontinuation of NSAID therapy, dietary management, and mucosal protectants such as misoprostol and sucralfate. Prognosis is dependent upon early recognition and appropriate treatment. Horses on prolonged courses of NSAIDs should have frequent monitoring of serum total protein and albumin concentrations, as this is one of the earliest and most consistent clinicopathological findings.  相似文献

本文观察了东北林蛙皮肤及其腺体组织形态学结构,结果表明:东北林蛙体表各部位皮肤薄厚不一,头部背侧皮肤最厚(224.4±5.46μm),后肢腹侧皮肤最薄(135.7±5.06μm),但基本结构相同,由表皮和真皮组成。表皮薄,为复层扁平上皮;真皮疏松层有大量腺体分布,主要是粘液腺和颗粒腺。粘液腺广泛分布于全身皮肤,颗粒腺多见于背部皮肤,以躯干背侧褶处体积最大。色素细胞分布于真皮浅层,以背侧皮肤多见。  相似文献
