Summary Four irrigation treatments: no irrigation; early irrigation (150 mm); late irrigation (150 mm); and early+late irrigation (275 mm), with 363 mm of rain; and four basic applications of nitrogen (0, 60, 120, 180 kg ha–1), with and without an additional nitrogen top dressing of 60 kg ha–1, were applied to autumn-sown wheat. For any given total nitrogen rate, there was no difference between the single and the split application.Grain yields ranged from 3040 kg ha–1 for the unirrigated, zero-nitrogen treatment to 6340 kg ha–1 for the two irrigations, 180 kg ha –1 N treatment. There was a strong interaction of irrigation and nitrogen on grain yields which was due mainly to the late irrigation: in the absence of the late irrigation the optimal nitrogen rate was 120 kg hat, followed by a marked decline in yield with additional nitrogen, whereas the application of the late irrigation shifted the optimum nitrogen rate to 180 kg ha–1. In the absence of the late irrigation, increasing the nitrogen rate from 0 to 240 kg ha –1 reduced kernel weight from 42 to 32 mg, whereas late irrigation largely prevented this decrease (42 to 39 mg). The reduction in kernel weight was evident even at the first nitrogen increments, in the range where grain yield was still increasing. Lack of nitrogen reduced soil moisture extraction during the grain filling stage, particularly from soil layers deeper than 60 cm.Stomatal aperture in the irrigated treatments was markedly larger in nitrogen-supplied than in nitrogen-deficient wheat, although the leaf hydration was similar; in the unirrigated treatment, the nitrogen-supplied plants had a lower hydration and smaller stomatal aperture than nitrogen-deficient plants.Contribution from the Agricultural Research Organization, Bet Dagan, Israel, No: 282-E, 1977 series  相似文献

In Northern India, insufficient soil moisture and excessively high soil temperatures are reported to restrict growth of crops during the hot, dry months of April–June. A 3-year field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of three irrigation schedules based on ratios of 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 times pan evaporation, and two levels of paddy straw mulch of 0 and 6 tons/ha on yield and quality of sugarcane for a sandy loam. The differential irrigations were restricted to 10–12 weeks before the monsoon season. Both irrigation and straw mulching had favourable effects on plant height and yield. Cane yield increased by an average of 13.8% for the 1.00 over the 0.50 times pan evaporation. Similarly, yield averaged 13.8% higher with mulch than without it. Interestingly, the pan evaporation ratio of 0.50 with mulch gave a higher yield than the ratio 1.00 without mulch. For the same yield, irrigation under mulching averaged 34 cm less than under no mulch. These beneficial effects were attributed to better soil moisture and temperature regimes with mulching. Irrigation and mulching had no effect on the quality of cane juice. These results indicate that straw mulching and early season irrigation to sugarcane based on 1.00 times pan evaporation is a promising practice for increasing sugarcane production in subtropical areas.  相似文献

Two-year lysimeter experiments were conducted to determine groundwater contributions by safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) crop. The plants were grown in twenty columns each with a diameter of 0.40 m packed with Silty Clay soil. The experiments were carried out in a complete randomized blocks design with four replicates. In each experiment, five treatments were applied by maintaining groundwater salinity to a control treatment with EC 1 dS/m, while the groundwater salinity of the other treatments was 2, 5, 8 and 10 dS/m, and 0.8 m water table level, respectively. The use of groundwater as a part of crop evapotranspiration was characterized by using daily measurements of the water level in Mariotte tubes. The extra magnitude of irrigation water requirement for each treatment was applied by water with EC of 1 dS/m. The results of experiments showed that for different control treatments with 1 dS/m, 2, 5, 8 and 10 dS/m, the groundwater contributions were achieved as 59, 51, 38, 32 and 19% of the total plant water requirements, respectively.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to investigate genotypic differences of five maize cultivars in grain yield response to two different modes of deficit irrigation, conventional deficit irrigation and partial root zone irrigation. Three irrigation treatments were implemented: (1) FULL irrigation, the control treatment where plant water requirement, 100% Class-A pan evaporation, was fully met and the furrows on both sides of the plant rows were irrigated; (2) partial root zone irrigation (PRI), 35% deficit irrigation, compared to FULL treatment, was applied in every other furrow thus irrigating only one side of the plant rows. The furrows irrigated were alternated every irrigation; (3) conventional deficit irrigation (CDI), the same amount of water as PRI was applied in furrows on both sides of the plant rows, similar to FULL irrigation treatment. Five maize cultivars (P.31.G.98, P.3394, Rx:9292, Tector and Tietar) showing extreme growth response to water stress were selected out of ten cultivars tested with earlier completed greenhouse-pot experiment. A split-plot experimental design, comprising three irrigation treatments and five maize cultivars with four replicates, was used during two years of work, in 2005 and 2006. Total of nine irrigations, with one-week irrigation interval, were annually applied using a drip-irrigation system. Soil water status was monitored using a neutron moisture gauge, in addition to measuring leaf water potential and above-ground biomass production throughout the growing season. Grain yield and other yield attributes were measured at harvest as well as assessing differences in plant root distributions. Decrease in grain yield and harvest index of the tested cultivars, compared to FULL treatment, was proportionally less under PRI than CDI. Whether or not a significant yield advantage can be obtained under PRI compared to CDI showed significant (P < 0.05) genotypic variability. Tector and Tietar among the tested cultivars of maize showed significantly higher grain yield (P < 0.05) under PRI than CDI. The yield advantage of the genotypes (P.3394 and Tector) under PRI compared to CDI seems related to their enhanced root biomass developed under PRI.  相似文献

This study was performed to test three methods based on the FAO-56 “dual” crop coefficient approach to estimate actual evapotranspiration (AET) for winter wheat under different irrigation treatments in the semi-arid region of Tensift Al Haouz, Marrakech (center of Morocco). The three methods differ in the calculation of the basal crop coefficient (Kcb) and the fraction of soil surface covered by vegetation (fc). The first approach strictly follows the FAO-56 procedure, with Kcb given in the FAO-56 tables and fc calculated from Kcb (No-Calibration method). The second method uses local Kcb and fc values estimated from field measurements (Local-Calibration method) and the last approach uses a remotely-sensed vegetation index to estimate Kcb and fc (NDVI-Calibration method). The analysis was performed on three fields using actual (AET) measured by Eddy Correlation systems. It was shown that the Local-Calibration approach gave best results. Accurate estimates of Kcb and fc were necessary for FAO-56 “dual” crop coefficient application. The locally derived Kcb for winter wheat taken at initial, mid-season, and maturity crop growth were 0.15, 0.90 and 0.23, respectively. The Kcb value at the mid-season stage was found to be considerably less than that suggested by the FAO-56.  相似文献

The experiment discussed below was carried out on an onion crop cultivated under controlled deficit irrigation (CDI) conditions in a semi-arid climate. Eight treatments were used in which different water doses were applied according to the water requirements at each stage of the crop cycle. The effect of water deficit was studied at three vegetative stages (development, bulbification and ripening).Although, the dry matter yield was not affected by the total volume of water intake (with volumes ranging from 603.1 to 772.0 mm), the statistical analyses made have shown that there is some interaction between the volumes of water received by the crop at the bulbification and ripening stages, which means that inducing a shortage in both stages at the same time does lead to significant differences in the yield obtained. As to bulb sizes, the treatments which received the greatest volumes of water during the development and ripening stages yielded harvests with higher percentages of large-size bulbs, whereas the water shortages induced during the growth and bulbification stages led to higher percentages of small-size bulbs.  相似文献

The use of wastewater for irrigation is increasingly being considered as a technical solution to minimize soil degradation and to restore nutrient content of soils. The aims of this study were to test if wastewater irrigation could improve soil fertility without affecting the quality of soils and plants. A field experiment was conducted in 2006 to investigate the effects of irrigation with untreated, and preliminary and primary treated wastewater on macro- and micronutrient distribution within the soil profile, yield and mineral content of cauliflower and red cabbage plants grown on a calcareous Aridisol in eastern Anatolia, Erzurum province, Turkey. Wastewater irrigation affected significantly soil chemical properties in the 0–30 cm soil layer and plant nutrient content after harvest. Application of wastewater increased soil salinity, organic matter, exchangeable Na, K, Ca, Mg, plant available phosphorus and microelements, and decreased soil pH. Wastewater irrigation treatments also increased the yield as well as N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni and Cd contents of cauliflower and red cabbage plants. The highest yield, macro- and micronutrient uptake of cauliflower and red cabbage plants were obtained with the untreated wastewater. Undesirable side effects such as heavy metal contamination in soil and plant, and salinity were not observed with the application of wastewater. It can be concluded that untreated wastewater can be used confidently, in the short term, in agricultural land, while primary treated wastewater can be used in sustainable agriculture in the long term.  相似文献

Summary The growth response of kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) to four irrigation schedules based on leaf water potential l was evaluated in a semi-arid tropical environment. Total dry matter production was unaffected by regimes in which the mean value of leaf water potential l (mean of solar noon and dawn value) did not fall below –1.26 MPa. Stem elongation was more sensitive than dry matter accumulation to plant water stress. — The economic yield for paper pulp production (i. e. total plant dry matter production minus that of the foliage and upper 60 cm of stem) increased with the frequency of irrigation. — Growth recovery by kenaf following a period of water stress was examined. Alleviation of water stress 10 weeks after irrigation, when l was –1.60 MPa, produced stem elongation rates that were greater than those of plants previously receiving irrigation. This ability to withstand water stress and partially compensate in growth following alleviation of the stress indicates that the kenaf crop has stress response features suitable for rainfall only production under semi-arid tropical conditions. — Irrigation schedules based on l resulted in water applications tailored to crop requirements in that water use increased, and the time interval between irrigation decreased, with increasing canopy development as well as with increasing evaporative demand. However, erratic fluctuations in l between irrigations make scheduling by this method difficult and the use of daily mean, dawn or noon values of l for scheduling irrigation of kenaf cannot be recommended in environments of high evaporative demand. The factors contributing to these fluctuations in (l) are discussed.  相似文献

The effect of grazing on the above-ground primary production and water use of a fertilised annual pasture and of fertilised sown wheat was studied. Similar studies were made of the effect of cutting on sown wheat. Two simple models—one exponential, the other logistic, both based on the dry weight of the above-ground biomass—were used to describe the primary production in all treatments. The production of undisturbed pasture and undisturbed wheat was 6480 and 7080 kg DM/ha, respectively. Grazing had no significant effect on the total production of the pasture but reduced the DM yield of wheat by up to 32%. Cutting of the wheat reduced the yield by 56%. Water use was similar in all treatments of pasture and wheat and was not directly related to production. The predicted production by both models was similar to observation in the early part of the season but differed from observation in the later part. Possible reasons for the discrepancies are discussed.  相似文献

The experiment aimed at evaluating the yield and quality response of broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica) to applied irrigation water and nitrogen by drip irrigation method during the spring and autumn cultivation periods of 2007. Irrigation water was applied based on a ratio of Class A pan evaporation (kcp = 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 and 1.25) with 7 days interval. Also, the effect of four nitrogen levels (0 kg ha−1, 150 kg ha−1, 200 kg ha−1 and 250 kg ha−1) was compared with each treatment. The seasonal evapotranspiration in the treatments varied from 233 mm to 328 mm during the spring period and from 276 mm to 344 mm during the autumn period. The highest broccoli yield was obtained in the spring period as 11.02 t ha−1 and in the autumn period as 4.55 t ha−1. In general, there were statistical differences along nitrogen does with respect to yield and yield components while there were no statistically significant differences in the yield and yield components among irrigation regimes. Both yield and yield parameters in the spring period were found to be higher than that of the autumn period due to the low temperature and high rainy days in autumn. Irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) ranged from 3.78 kg m−3 to 14.61 kg m−3 during the spring period and from 1.89 kg m−3 to 5.93 kg m−3 during the autumn period. On the other hand, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) changed as 37.32-73.13% and 13.08-22.46% for spring and autumn season, respectively.  相似文献

Summary Daily water use of irrigated wheat (Triticum aestivum L., var. Siete Cerros) was determined for three seasons between 1983 and 1986 using a hydraulic weighing lysimeter at Kadawa in the Kano River Irrigation Project of Kano State, Nigeria. Crop coefficients were determined for various time intervals during each growing season using the lysimeter data and a grass-based reference crop evapotranspiration estimated with Class A pan evaporation data. Mean crop coefficients for each ten-day period of crop growth were then determined. Observed length of a season ranges between 110 and 120 days. Seasonal crop water use ranges between 395 mm and 456 mm. Wheat crop water requirements (CWR) were then estimated for major irrigation projects in the Nigerian Sudan and Sahel savannah zones, between latitudes 10°N and 14°N, using the crop coefficients obtained and long term mean climatic data. The estimated CWR agreed with values obtained from the lysimeter experiments. Seasonal CWR values estimated by designers of three existing irrigation projects in the area agreed with the experimental results, but the designers' short term, ten-day period estimates differed from the results obtained.Contribution from the Irrigation Research Programme, Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria  相似文献

Field studies were conducted to determine the yield performance of a semi-dwarf high yielding variety of wheat (Triticum aestivum L., cv. ‘Sonalika’) in response to irrigation provided at various critical stages of growth. Determination of an irrigation schedule for most efficient water management was attempted. The study, conducted on a calcareous brown flood plain soil, comprised a randomized block design experiment with eight irrigation treatments applied at critical growth stages. The yield of wheat was the highest and the irrigation efficiency maximum, when two irrigations, totalling 9.5 cm, were given at tillering and booting stages. The quantity of irrigation water applied was calculated on the basis of deficit from field capacity level of soil water content. The lowest grain yields were obtained in treatments receiving either no irrigation or only one irrigation at the grain-filling stage. The percent increase over control (no irrigation) in grain yield, due to various irrigation treatments, ranged from 21 to 92%. The data revealed that the depletion of soil water increased as the amount of irrigation water increased. The results indicate that the present yield levels of wheat in Bangladesh can easily be increased by 50–100% by irrigating with only one-third to one-half of the water currently being used, provided it is scheduled and managed efficiently, keeping in view the need of the crops as well as the soils.  相似文献

The North China Plain (NCP) is one of the main productive regions for winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and summer maize (Zea mays L.) in China. However, water-saving irrigation technologies (WSITs), such as sprinkler irrigation technology and improved surface irrigation technology, and water management practices, such as irrigation scheduling have been adopted to improve field-level water use efficiency especially in winter wheat growing season, due to the water scarcity and continuous increase of water in industry and domestic life in the NCP. As one of the WSITs, sprinkler irrigation has been increasingly used in the NCP during the past 20 years. In this paper, a three-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the responses of volumetric soil water content (SWC), winter wheat yield, evapotranspiration (ET), water use efficiency (WUE) and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) to sprinkler irrigation regimes based on the evaporation from an uncovered, 20-cm diameter pan located 0-5 cm above the crop canopy in order to develop an appropriate sprinkler irrigation scheduling for winter wheat in the NCP. Results indicated that the temporal variations in SWC for irrigation treatments in the 0-60-cm soil layer were considerably larger than what occurred at deeper depths, whereas temporal variations in SWC for non-irrigation treatments were large throughout the 0-120-cm soil layer. Crop leaf area index, dry biomass, 1000-grains weight and yield were negatively affected by water stress for those treatments with irrigation depth less than 0.50E, where E is the net evaporation (which includes rainfall) from the 20-cm diameter pan. While irrigation with a depth over 1.0E also had negative effect on 1000-grains weight and yield. The seasonal ET of winter wheat was in a range of 206-499 mm during the three years experiments. Relatively high yield, WUE and IWUE were found for the irrigation depth of 0.63E. Therefore, for winter wheat in the NCP the recommended amount of irrigation to apply for each event is the total 0.63E that occurred after the previous irrigation provided total E is in a range of 30-40 mm.  相似文献

Crop coefficient of sesame is necessary for the water requirement estimation in irrigation water planning and management. This study has been initiated to determine the crop coefficient (Kc) of sesame in a semi-arid climate. The relationships between Kc and ETp/Ep (pan evaporation) and leaf area index (LAI), growing degree-day (GDD) and days after sowing (DAS), were also investigated. The seasonal ETp for sesame in the study area with a 5 month growth period was 910 m. The mid-season and late-season Kc values for sesame were 1.08 and 0.64, respectively. These values are somewhat lower and higher than those for other oil seed crops. The Kc value for the initial stage was close to that obtained by the procedure proposed by Allen et al. [Allen, R.G., Smith, M., Pereira, L.S., Pruitt, W.O., 1997. Proposed revision to the FAO procedure for estimating evapotranspiration. In: The Second Iranian Congress on Soil and Water Issues, 15–17 February 1997. Tehran, I.R. of Iran, pp. 1–18]. The ratio of ETp/Ep varied between 0.49–1.0 from the beginning to the middle of the growing season which is a sign of mild local advection in the region. The maximum ratios of ETp/ET0 and ETp/Ep occurred at a LAI of 3.0. Furthermore, third-order polynomials were presented to predict the Kc values from days after sowing (DAS), percent days after sowing (%DAS) and growing degree-day (GDD).  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 to evaluate the relative performance of synthetic (black polyethylene) and organic (paddy husk and straw) mulches on soil and plant water status vis-a-vis N uptake in wheat in a semi-arid environment of India. Scope of better utilization of soil moisture was documented through all the mulches, especially during initial crop growth stages, when the moisture content was 1-3% higher in mulches. Soil temperature was more moderate under organic mulches. Paddy husk recorded significantly higher plant biomass, while the effect of mulching in enhancing root growth was clearly documented. Organic mulches produced more roots (25 and 40% higher root weight and root length densities compared to no-mulch) in sub-surface (>0.15 m) layers, probably due to greater retention of soil moisture in deeper layers and relatively narrow range of soil temperature changes under these systems. Incremental N dose significantly improved all the plant parameters in both mulch and no-mulch treatments. Grain yield was 13-21% higher under mulch and so with increasing N levels. Nitrogen uptake was higher in organic mulches and also with higher N doses, while polyethylene mulch showed mixed trend. Mulches were effective in reducing 3-11% crop water use and improved its efficiency by 25%. Grain yield and biomass were well-correlated with leaf area index (r = 0.87 and 0.91, respectively) and water use was better correlated with root length than its weight. Results indicated substantial improvement in water and N use efficiency and crop growth in wheat under surface mulching, and the organic mulches, especially rice husk performed better than synthetic mulches.  相似文献

Tieguanyin Oolong tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) is a name brand important commodity for Anxi county, Fujian province in China. Four-year-old tea plants at a tea plantation in Anxi were subjected to six different irrigation treatments (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 d irrigation intervals for T1 to T5 with a rate of 3.5 kg water per plant, plus a non-irrigated control). After 50 d of irrigation treatments, leaf water potential was −1.70, −2.34, −2.48, −2.89, −3.55, and −4.92 MPa for treatment T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, and control, respectively. Leaf biomass yield increased by 32.8%, 21.9%, and 21.3% for T1, T2, and T3, respectively, compared to control. The net photosynthesis (Pn), stomatal conductance (gs) and transpiration (E) decreased with irrigation interval increasing. Tea polyphenol (TP) and free amino acid (AA) decreased when the irrigation intervals were increased, but caffeine (CA) content apparently increased as the irrigation intervals were increased. To balance irrigation water demand and tea yield and quality, it is recommended that the irrigation interval should be set at 10 d with a rate of 3.5 kg water per plant for the optimal production in Anxi, Fujian province of China.  相似文献

In order to study the effects of drip irrigation with saline water on waxy maize, three years of field experiments were carried out in 2007-2009 in North China Plain. Five treatments with average salinity of irrigation water, 1.7, 4.0, 6.3, 8.6, and 10.9 dS/m were designed. Results indicated that the irrigation water with salinity <10.9 dS/m did not affect the emergence of waxy maize. As salinity of irrigation water increased, seedling biomass decreased, and the plant height, fresh and dry weight of waxy maize in the thinning time decreased by 2% for every 1 dS/m increase in salinity of irrigated water. The decreasing rate of the fresh ear yield for every 1 dS/m increase in salinity of irrigation water was about 0.4-3.3%. Irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) increased with the increase in salinity of irrigation water when salinity was <10.9 dS/m. Precipitation during the growing period significantly lightened the negative impacts of irrigation-water salinity on the growth and yield. Soil salinity in depth of 0-120 cm increased in the beginning of irrigation with saline water, while it was relatively stable in the subsequent year when salinity of irrigation water was not higher than 4.0 dS/m and the soil matric potential (SMP) at 0.2 m directly underneath the drip emitter was controlled above −20 kPa.  相似文献

Effects on water use, green bean yield, irrigation water-use efficiency (IWUE), water-use efficiency (WUE), plant dry weight and crop water relationship were investigated for two-drip irrigation techniques and four irrigation water levels in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. The treatments were conventional (SDI) and alternating subsurface drip irrigation (SPRD). At each irrigation event, half of the volume of water applied to the SDI was applied to one side of the crop, representing the partial rootzone-drying treatment. All treatments received 295 mm of irrigation during crop establishment, prior to beginning the different irrigation regimes. Differing irrigation amounts corresponded to four crop-pan coefficients (Kcp1 = 0.6, Kcp2 = 0.8, Kcp3 = 1.0 and Kcp4 = 1.2), appropriate to pan data. Total water applied to the SDI and SPRD treatments ranged from 366 to 437 mm and from 331 to 366 mm, respectively, depending on Kcp values, with water uptake varying from 396 to 470 mm and 364 to 409 mm, respectively. While differences of green bean yield and dry plant weights were not significantly affected by the SDI and SPRD irrigation techniques, the overall irrigation water saving was found to be 16% for the SPRD irrigation treatment compared with the SDI treatment. SPRD irrigation techniques increased IWUE, WUE, and slopes of yield water relationships. Increase in slopes of the yield–irrigation water and yield–water-use function of SPRD according to the equivalent slopes of the SDI were 215.8 and 151.4%, respectively. SPRD increased the green bean yield response factor (ky) with value of 128.4% according to the equivalent slopes of the SDI. In conclusion, irrigation scheduling based on a 0.8 crop-pan coefficient is recommended for conventional SDI, with 1.0 being more appropriate for partial rootzone-drying practice.  相似文献

Summary Effects of weekly (W) and fortnightly (F) irrigation schedules on established stands of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) grown on gypsum treated (G) and untreated (C) heavy clay soil were investigated. Two irrigations were applied under the fortnightly regime and four under the weekly schedule during a single cutting cycle. Growth and light interception were measured during both the vegetative and mature phases of growth.Leaf expansion, light interception and dry matter production were greater under treatments W G and W C, with yield increasing from 3.4 t ha–1 under the fortnightly schedule to 5.0 t ha-1 with weekly irrigation. Gypsum treatment was effective under the more frequent irrigation schedule. Specific leaf area and the proportion of stem were both increased by treatments W G and W C. The responses to irrigation were therefore characteristic of those elicited by a more favourable plant moisture status. Growth was analysed in terms of light interception, the efficiency of utilisation of intercepted light, the proportion of the daily dry matter gain retained by the leaves and leaf expansion. The analysis demonstrated that impaired leaf expansion contributed to a decline of approximately 15% in yield, and that impaired efficiencies of utilisation of intercepted light contributed to losses of approximately 30% under the less frequent irrigation schedule.A comparison of growth rates and efficiencies of energy conversion with published data showed that satisfactory rates of growth and levels of productivity were achieved on the heavy soils of the local region using gypsum treatment and the more frequent irrigation schedule.  相似文献
