Ophthalmic manifestations of FeLV or FIV infection can occur in all ocular tissues and may be manifestations of direct viral effects or secondary to viral-related malignant transformation. Additionally, the manifestations of common feline ophthalmic pathogens may be more severe and poorly responsive to therapy because of the immunosuppressive effects of FeLV or FIV infection. Prompt diagnosis of underlying viral infection in cats with ophthalmic disease is paramount for accurate diagnosis and prognosis and is required for appropriate therapeutic decision making.  相似文献

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) are common and important infectious disease agents of cats in Canada. Seroprevalence data for FeLV and FIV in various populations of Canadian cats are reviewed and recommendations for testing and management of infections by these viruses in cats in Canada are presented. Retrovirus testing in Canada is infrequent in comparison with the United States, and efforts should be focused on reducing physical and other barriers to testing, and on education of veterinarians, veterinary team members, and cat owners regarding the importance of testing. New test methodologies for FeLV and FIV are emerging, and should be independently evaluated in order to provide practitioners with information on test reliability. Finally, more information is needed on FIV subtypes in Canada to improve diagnostics and vaccines, and to provide information on disease outcomes.  相似文献

Cats submitted for post-mortem examination have been studied for persistent FeLV infection using immune histological methods. Persistent FeLV infection turned out to cause the most frequent lethal infectious disease of the cat. In the post-mortem material, 16 per cent of the cats were found positive whereas 3 per cent can be assumed for the normal feline population. FeLV-positive animals die from FeLV-associated non-tumourous conditions in 75 per cent of the cases rather than from leucosis. The most important non-tumourous conditions are anaemia, feline infectious peritonitis, inflammation of the respiratory tract and liver degeneration. Important differences have been found between the various forms of leucosis which can also be distinguished in the small animal practice concerning their association with FeLV infection. Variations between 20 and 90 per cent have been found.  相似文献

Characteristic viral-type particles were seen in liver of kittens experimentally infected with the feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) agent. The particles were from 70 to 75 nm in diameter, with a central doughnut-shaped nucleoid 50 to 55 nm in diameter; numerous spikelike projections extended from their envelopes. Similar particles were seen by electron microscopy in peritoneal cell cultures derived from the peritoneal exudate of experimentally infected kittens, and viral antigens were identified in these cells by immunofluorescence. Cells and supernatant fluids from cultures containing these particles produced FIP when injected into the peritoneal cavity of kittens. The FIP agent is heat sensitive, ether labile, and relatively phenol resistant and is inactivated within 24 hours at room temperature. The FIP agent is inactivated by recommended viricidal concentrations of chlorhexidine and benzlkonium chloride.  相似文献

The interferon inducing ability of bluetongue viruses was studied in bovine and feline monolayer cultures inoculated with each of four bluetongue virus serotypes. Interferon was assayed by a plaque reduction method in monolayer cultures with vesicular stomatitis virus as challenge virus. Interferon was produced by bovine turbinate, Georgia bovine kidney, and Crandell feline kidney monolayer cultures in response to bluetongue virus serotypes 10, 11, 13 and 17. The antiviral substances produced by the bluetongue virus infected cultures had properties of interferon.  相似文献

Genetic and antigenic analyses of bovine respiratory syncytial virus were conducted on 12 field strains from Tohoku and Hokuriku districts in Japan during from 2002 to 2004. On the phylogenetic tree of the nucleotide sequences of the glycoprotein region, the examined strains fell in the same cluster as the strain isolated in Nebraska and were classified as the subgroup III. The examined strains were subdivided into 2 lineages (A, B). Isoleucine 200 of the epitope domain was replaced by threonine as a feature of the lineage B strains. The examined strains showed the nucleotide sequence homologies of 88.3-93.3% with the known Japanese strains classified as the subgroup II and of 86.1-96.6% with those in the subgroup III. No significant difference was found on the neutralization index between the examined strain and the 52-163-13 phylogenetically similar to the Japanese vaccine one. The results suggest that the subgroup III strains have existed in Japan and that epidemics of the strains could be protected due to the present vaccination.  相似文献

Serum samples from 1421 domestic cats (561 healthy, 860 sick) were tested for FIV-, FeLV- and coronavirus infection. The results were stored in a computer data base and compared with epidemiologic data and clinical findings. All 3 infections were significantly more prevalent in sick than healthy cats: FIV was found in 0.7% of healthy and 3.4% of sick cats. For FeLV the prevalence was 3.0% and 13.0% and for coronavirus 21% and 36.2%, respectively. FIV-infected cats were mostly male (73%); no sex predilection was observed in FeLV- and coronavirus infection. In sick cats FIV-infection was significantly more prevalent in cats greater than 2 years of age; no age-dependence was found in FeLV- and coronavirus infections. The prevalence of FIV-infection increased significantly with the number of animals per household. In contrast, the frequency of FeLV infection decreased with the number of animals per household. Prevalence of coronavirus infection did not vary with group size or living conditions. The following clinical symptoms were associated with infection: FIV: general depression, diseases of the urinary tract; FeLV: general depression, fever, rough hair coat, lymphadenopathy, impaired functions of heart and circulation and muscle atrophy; coronavirus: lymphadenopathy and alterations in the abdomen. It was concluded that based on the clinical symptoms alone FIV-infection could not be diagnosed nor differentiated from the other 2 infections.  相似文献
