Both in Indonesia and Vietnam, larval rearing of Pangasius hypophthalmus remains problematic due to the variable and generally low survival rates obtained. The first week represents the most critical period for these larvae and up to now, cannibalistic behaviour was considered as the main cause of mortality. In the present study, two experiments were carried out in order to better understand the evolution and causes of mortality of P. hypophthalmus larvae from hatching up to 8 d of age and to find measures to improve survival rates. The first experiment was designed to evaluate the importance of cannibalism and differences in mortality when larvae from two different females were reared either in groups of 30 individuals or in isolated condition (30 larvae reared separately). In both cases, the culture was carried out either with or without antibiotic. The aim of the second experiment was to test oxytetracycline and different disinfectants (chloramine-T, formalin and ‘formalin + malachite green oxalate’) at different dosages in order to prevent bacterial outbreaks in the culture. The results indicated that the survival rates of P. hypophthalmus larvae was dependent on the initial quality of larvae or eggs and that larval mortality was more a consequence of pathogenic infection than a direct effect of cannibalism. The present study demonstrated that the survival rates of larvae were systematically improved when rearing was carried out in water containing antibiotic (oxytetracycline at a dose of 5 to 20 mg·L1). Survival rate and final mean body weight of larvae as high as those obtained using antibiotic were also reached with applications of disinfectants such as chloramine-T and formalin. The use of these disinfectants is recommended for commercial P. hypophthalmus hatcheries.  相似文献

The effects of three extenders (Ginzburg fish ringer, Calcium‐free Hank's balanced salt solution, C‐F HBSS and sodium chloride, 0.9% NaCl) and four cryoprotectants (dimethyl sulphoxide, DMSO; dimethyl acetamide, DMA; methanol, MeOH and glycerol) in different concentrations (5%, 10% and 15%) on the motility, viability and fertilization rates of Mekong catfish (Pagasius bocourti) sperm were investigated. Sperm samples were transferred into 250‐μL French straws and sealed with a heated haemostat. The straws were then placed in a cryochamber. A computer‐controlled rate freezer (CL 3300) and programmable Cryogenesis, version 4 were used to regulate the freezing rate. The sperm samples were frozen at a rate of 10°C min?1 from 4 to ?80°C and then evaluated after 72 h. Of the three extenders used with each cryoprotectant, C‐F HBSS had the highest fertilization rate of 75% (93% of control). This was not significantly different from the control treatment (fresh sperm) when tested with DMSO as the cryoprotectant. The lowest fertilization rate of 27% (38% of control) was resulting from the combination of 15% glycerol and C‐F HBSS. This study found that fertilization, motility and viability rates in all of the experiments had a positive significant correlation (< 0.001).  相似文献

Five diets were formulated to provide an isoproteic daily dietary intake of 15 g kg?1 day?1, while maintaining daily starch intake ranging from 0 to 40 g kg?1 day?1. The 4‐week experiments started with initial mean weights of 4.7 and 4.4 g for Pangasius bocourti and P. hypophthalmus, respectively. The results clearly show the protein sparing action of starch in both species. Best protein retention was obtained with starch intake of 20 and 10 g kg?1 day?1 for P. bocourti and P. hypophthalmus, respectively, which was equivalent to 40 and 20% starch in the feed. Pangasius bocourti and P. hypophthalmus fingerlings attained maximal growth with starch intake of 30 and 10 g kg?1 day?1, equivalent to 60 and 20% starch in the feed. It was noted that body lipid accumulation was much higher in P. bocourti than in P. hypophthalmus, and that excess dietary starch intake depressed diet digestibility and growth.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of Jerusalem artichoke (JA) and Lactobacillus plantarum singly or combined on growth, immunity and disease resistance of Pangasius bocourti. In the first experiment, different concentrations of JA (0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 g kg?1) were administered to determine an optimal concentration on growth of P. bocourti. In the second experiment, the optimal concentration of JA (5 g kg?1) was combined with 108 cfu g?1 L. plantarum. In the final experiment, five randomly selected fish from the second experiment were challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila. Treatments for second and third experiments were 0 g kg?1 JA (Diet 1), 5 g kg?1 JA (Diet 2), 108 cfu g?1 L. plantarum (Diet 3) and 5 g kg?1 JA + 108 cfu g?1 L. plantarum (Diet 4). Fish fed 5 g kg?1 JA or 108 cfu g?1 of L. plantarum significantly improved specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), serum lysozyme activity and postchallenge survival rate (PCSR). Dietary in the combination of JA and L. plantarum showed significantly enhanced SGR, FCR, serum lysozyme, phagocytosis, respiratory burst activities and PCSR compared with control and individual applications. Dietary JA and L. plantarum significantly stimulated growth, immunity and disease resistance of P. bocourti.  相似文献

Brine shrimp Artemia, the most common live food organism used in larviculture, can reproduce either oviparously (production of dormant cysts) or ovoviviparously (direct production of nauplii), depending on environmental conditions. Ovoviviparous Artemia nauplii have seldom been considered as a source of live food in aquaculture, partly due to the convenience and the developed techniques associated with the production and use of the dormant cysts. In many countries in Africa, however, hatchery managers do not have access to a reliable supply of affordable good quality cysts. In this study, we therefore demonstrated the potential of a system designed for the continuous ovoviviparous production of nauplii at low salinity, using Great Salt Lake Artemia franciscana and micronized agricultural material as feed. The suitability of the produced nauplii was tested by feeding them directly to Clarias gariepinus larvae in comparison with oviparous nauplii and decapsulated cysts. Higher survival (100%), better protein efficiency ratio (2.6 ± 0.1) and food conversion ratio (1.0 ± 0.1) was observed in larvae fed with the ovoviviparous nauplii (p < 0.05). Overall, we conclude that the ovoviviparous nauplii could serve as an alternative live food for larval fish. If optimized, the system could be validated for integration in hatcheries.  相似文献

Abstract. This study explored the feasibility of completely replacing live foods with an artificial diet for rearing the larvae of Metapenaeus ensis (de Haan) and Penaeus chinensis (Osbeck). The artificial diets tested were a microparticulate diet developed at the Centre Océanologique du Pacifique, Tahiti, and Artificial Plankton B.P. (Nippai Shrimp Feed Inc., Japan). Survival and development of shrimp were assessed in 1-l cones stocked with 100 nauplius V-VI or protozoea I larvae. Live feeds of the diatom Chaetoceros gracilis and Artemia nauplii served as controls. Whereas the larvae could be reared to post-larvae with artificial diets alone, the highest survival and development rates were always obtained with live foods. Larvae fed with artificial diets had retarded development and their survival to post-larvae was always lower than those fed live foods. Total replacement of live foods with artificial diets resulted in a reduction in the body length of post-larvae I in P.chinensis . Supplementing Artificial Plankton B.P. with Artemia nauplii enhanced survival and development in this species. It was concluded that the two artificial diets are not satisfactory complete substitutes for live foods in raising the two penaeids but can be used as a convenient supplement when algal diet is limited.  相似文献

Over a 3-year period at the Sukamandi station (West Java, Indonesia), 107 Pangasius hypophthalmus females were selected on the basis of a modal oocyte diameter greater than 1.0 mm and treated with either Ovaprim (n = 97) or hCG (n = 10) to induce oocyte maturation and ovulation. The two hormonal treatments led to similar results in terms of ovulation rate (88 and 90 %), hatching rate (72 ± 25 and 82 ± 11 %) and relative fecundity (171 000 ± 73 000 and 128 000 ± 60 000 ova·kg–1, with Ovaprim and hCG, respectively). The latency period between the last hormone injection and ovulation was negatively correlated to water temperature but showed important variations at a same temperature depending on individual females (e.g. between 5 and 11 h at 28–29 °C). The ovulation time was therefore difficult to predict accurately in this species. The assessment of the viability of ova retained in the ovarian cavity after ovulation showed that the process of overripening occurs rapidly in P. hypophthalmus. The overall quality of ova began to decline as early as 2 h after ovulation and, after 3 h, hatching rates decreased and the proportion of deformed larvae increased significantly in comparison to those observed at the time of ovulation. In some individual females this process occurred even more rapidly, with a sharp decrease in hatching rates between 1 and 2 h post-ovulation. The duration of ova survival did not appear to depend on the type of hormone treatment used to induce ovulation (Ovaprim or hCG). For optimized gamete management in hatcheries, it is therefore recommended to check carefully the females for the occurrence of ovulation (between 3 and 11 h after the last hormone injection, depending on water temperature) and to strip and fertilize the eggs less than 2 h thereafter.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of mitochondrial DNA was applied to the genetic structure and evolutionary history of the more ancestral Pangasianodon hypophthalmus ( n  = 82), and the recently speciated catfish Pangasius bocourti ( n  = 90) from the Cambodian Mekong River. Both pangasiids were characterized by a lack of genetic population structure that may result from high levels of contemporary gene flow. Genetic diversity was lower in P. hypophthalmus than in P. bocourti . However, a different evolutionary history was inferred for both species based on genealogical and demographic analyses (mismatch analysis, Tajima's D- and Fu's F S-tests). The genetic profile of the more ancestral P. hypophthalmus shows indications of a recent population bottleneck, whereas the recently speciated P. bocourti shows signatures of historical population expansion. This study stresses the importance of preserving the migration routes in the Cambodian Mekong basin in order to maintain the genetic diversity and long-term integrity of both species.  相似文献

A technical and socio‐economic survey was conducted in Dong Thap, Can Tho and An Giang, provinces of Vietnam in 2009. The results showed that most of the small scale farmers of striped catfish (Pangasius hypothalamus) carry out fish pond culture, developed and operated by self‐learned experience and from neighbours knowledge. The mean pond depth varied from 3.5 to 4.0 m, ranging from 2 to 6 m. Most of the fish farms have extremely high stocking density, with an average of about 40 fish m?2, in some cases up to 70 fish per m2. The average yields and net income of small‐scales pond farming is about 21–27 kg per m2 crop?1 and US$ 0.184–0.329 kg?1 crop?1 respectively. These figures are not significantly different compared with large‐scale pond farming. About 75%, 86% and 80% of fish farmers in Dong Thap, Can Tho and An Giang province, respectively, received positive net returns. Farm‐made feed is still playing an important role because of higher net profit compared with commercial pellet feeds. Rice bran and trash fish are the main feed ingredients for farm‐made feed formulations. Striped catfish farmers are now actively searching for locally produced plant protein sources as alternatives to marine trash fish or fish meal.  相似文献

This study aimed at (1) evaluating the efficacy of live food organisms (Artemia and natural zooplankton) and an artificial diet in the larval rearing of African carp Labeo parvus and (2) determining appropriate rearing conditions. After yolk sac resorption, the larvae were separated into five different feeding trials with two replicates. At the end of the larval rearing period (28 days post‐hatching), the highest (94.6%) and the lowest (53.7%) cumulative survival rates were found when larvae were fed with natural zooplankton for 7 days followed by Nippai food for 21 days, and when larvae were fed from the beginning of exogenous feeding with Nippai food only respectively. The significant highest body weight (351.6 mg), total length (34.4 mm) and specific growth rates (15.5%day?1) were recorded when the larvae were fed with Artemia nauplii for 14 days followed by Nippai food for 14 days. The lowest growth performance (body weight and specific growth rates) were obtained when larvae were fed exclusively Nippai food. These results indicate that L. parvus can be successfully cultured in indoor nursery systems from hatching to the early juvenile stage.  相似文献

为探讨珊瑚对生物活饵料的捕食机制,选取美丽鹿角珊瑚(Acropora formosa)和佳丽鹿角珊瑚(Acropora pulchra)为实验对象,以轮虫(SS-type Rotifer)和丰年虫(Artemia salina)无节幼体为生物活饵料进行投喂。通过对投喂饵料量、残余量,以及差值进行统计,从而探讨珊瑚的摄食情况及摄食偏好。结果表明:超小型轮虫平均剩余量8.16×104个,P=0.012(P0.05),实验前后轮虫密度有显著差异。丰年虫无节幼体平均剩余量2.3×103个,P=0.01(P0.05),实验前后丰年虫密度有显著性差异。超小型轮虫和丰年虫无节幼体可以是珊瑚的生物活饵料。  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the current status on the use of probiotics, disinfectants and antimicrobials in hatcheries, nurseries and grow‐out farms producing Pangasius catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 83 aquaculture enterprises (15 hatcheries, 32 nurseries and 36 grow‐out farms). Farmers reported use of a total of 24 different antimicrobials, e.g. for treatment of bacillary necrosis and motile aeromonad septicaemia, and a variety of disinfectants, probiotics and nutritional supplements. In contrast to small‐scale farmers, all large‐scale grow‐out farmers studied were certified and therefore had higher levels of formal education and specialized aquaculture training to diagnose and treat diseases. All farmers prepared their own medicated feed with a high risk of treatment failure, negative environmental impact from released antimicrobials and resistance development. Small‐scale farmers were at particular occupational health risks when handling antimicrobials and other chemicals, e.g. mixing medicated feed with bare hands. There is an urgent need to improve knowledge and use innovative approaches, e.g. private‐public partnerships, to assure a prudent use of chemicals, to improve capacity and access to disease diagnosis, particularly for small‐scale grow‐out farmers and nurseries. Efforts to control use of antimicrobials in aquaculture should be coordinated with the livestock and human health sectors taking an One‐Health approach.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of dietary protein and lipid levels on growth, feed utilization and body composition of Asian catfish Pangasius hypophthalmus reared in cages. Eight test diets were formulated at four protein (340, 380, 420 and 460 g kg−1 crude protein) and two lipid (50 and 90 g kg−1 crude lipid) levels. Fish (initial weight 4.7 g fish−1) were fed the test diets for 8 weeks. Final body weight, weight gain (WG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), contents of crude protein, lipid and energy in whole body were dependent on both dietary protein and lipid levels, while specific growth rate (SGR), hepatosomatic index and body moisture content were dependent on dietary lipid level. The WG and SGR increased with the increase in either dietary protein level (at the same lipid level) or lipid level (at the same protein level). The FI and FCR decreased with the increase in dietary protein level (at the same lipid level) or lipid level (at the same protein level). Protein sparing action occurred in case dietary lipid level increased. Fish fed the diet containing 453 g kg−1 crude protein and 86 g kg−1 lipid had the highest WG and SGR, but the lowest FI and FCR, among the diet treatments. There were no significant differences in the protein retention efficiency (PRE) and energy retention efficiency (ERE) among the diet treatments, although PRE and ERE were relatively high in fish fed the diet containing 453 g kg−1 crude protein and 86 g kg−1 lipid. At the end of the feeding trial, body protein content increased, while body lipid content decreased, with the increase in dietary protein content at the same lipid level. Our results suggest that dietary levels of 450 g kg−1 crude protein and 90 g kg−1 lipid are adequate to support fast growth of P. hypophthalmus reared in cages.  相似文献

Whitefish larvae were reared using combinations of live Artemia nauplii and trout starter. In all cases survival was greater than 93% at 9 weeks of age. Growth did not differ significantly (P>0.1) between high and low feeding rates of live nauplii; however, an opercular cover malformation was detected at the lower rate. A conversion program was developed for the practical use of Artemia nauplii. Whitefish were successfully converted to trout starter at 7 weeks of age and 140 mg. Trout starter alone was inadequate for early rearing. Decapsulated, lyophylized cysts of Artemia were almost a replacement for live Artemia nauplii except for a low incidence of opercular cover malformation. Advanced rearing to yearling size was easily performed with trout feed. Additional mortalities were less than 3% to 14 months of age at stocking.  相似文献

Freshly-hatched Artemia nauplii from various geographical sources survived storage in a refrigerator (2–4°C) at densities of 2000 per ml and above. Except for Artemia from Chaplin Lake and Buenos Aires, naupliar viability was very high even after 48 h storage, and did not decrease significantly after a 24 h post-storage transfer to 25°C. Neither the naupliar dry weight nor biochemical composition changed significantly during refrigeration for most strains tested. Comparative culture-tests with stored and freshly-hatched nauplii as food for juvenile marine mysids Mysidopsis bahia M. and larval carp Cyprinus carpio L. revealed similar production performances.  相似文献

The fertilization efficiency of cryopreserved sperm was compared with fresh sperm from striped catfish, Pangasius hypophthalmus . Of the two sets of experiments carried out, the first compared four sperm doses using fresh sperm and fresh eggs. The second experiment compared six concentrations of cryopreserved sperm ranging from 6.94 × 107 to 6.94 × 1010 to fertilize 100 eggs per batch. Fertilization, hatch and survival rates were compared between cryopreserved and fresh sperm. The highest fertilization rate (53.75±1.62%) was achieved with a sperm dose of 6.94 × 108. Increasing the sperm dose to 3.47 × 109 did not increase the fertilization rate, indicating that the optimum sperm:egg ratio lies between 6.94 × 106 and 3.47 × 107 sperm per egg. Both highest (6.94 × 1010) and the lowest (6.94 × 107) sperm doses resulted in lower fertilization rates (2.04% and 16.90% respectively). No significant differences were found among four fresh sperm doses compared. Mean hatch and survival rates resulting from fresh and cryopreserved sperm were similar. The experiment shows that while only 1.89 × 106 fresh spermatozoa was required to fertilize a fresh egg, 6.94 × 106 (or 3.67 times more) cryopreserved sperm was required to achieve the same level of fertilization. This provides important information for making decision to cryopreserve sperm for commercial and/or conservation purposes.  相似文献
