Surface irrigation analysis and design require the knowledge of the variation of the cumulative infiltration water Z (L) (per unit area) into the soil as a function of the infiltration time t (T). The purpose of this study is to evaluate water infiltration and storage under surface irrigation in an alluvial clay soil cultivated with grape yield, and to determine if partially wetted furrow irrigation has more efficient water storage and infiltration than traditional border irrigation. The two irrigation components considered were wet (WT) and dry (DT) treatments, at which water applied when available soil water reached 65% and 50%, and the traditional border irrigation control. Empirical power form equations were obtained for measured advance and recession times along the furrow length during the irrigation stages of advance, storage, depletion and recession. The infiltration (cumulative depth, Z and rate, I) was functioned to opportunity time (to) in minute for WT and DT treatments as: ZWT = 0.528 to0.6, ZDT = 1.2 to0.501, IWT = 19 to−0.4, and IDT = 36 to−0.498. The irrigation efficiency and soil water distribution have been evaluated using linear distribution and relative schedule depth. Coefficient of variation (CV) was 5.2 and 9.5% for WT and DT under furrow irrigation system comparing with 7.8% in border, respectively. Water was deeply percolated as 11.88 and 19.2% for wet and dry furrow treatments, respectively, compared with 12.8% for control, with no deficit in the irrigated area. Partially wetted furrow irrigation had greater water-efficiency and grape yield than both dry furrow and traditional border irrigations, where application efficiency achieved as 88.1% for wet furrow irrigation that achieved high grape fruit yield (30.71 Mg/ha) and water use efficiency 11.9 kg/m3.  相似文献

Gross sprinkler evaporation losses (SELg) can be large and decrease irrigation application efficiency. However, it is not universally established how much of the SELg contributes to decrease the crop evapotranspiration during the sprinkler irrigation and how much are the net sprinkler losses (SELn). The components of SEL were the wind drift and evaporation losses (WDEL) and the water intercepted by the crop (IL). The gross WDEL (WDELg) and evapotranspiration (ET) were measured simultaneously in two alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) plots, one being irrigated (moist, MT) and the other one not being irrigated (dry, DT). Catch can measurements, mass gains, and losses in the lysimeters and micrometeorological measurements were performed to establish net WDEL (WDELn) during the irrigation and net IL (ILn) after the irrigation as the difference between ETMT and ETDT. Also, equations to estimate ILn and net sprinkler evaporation losses (SELn) were developed. ILn was strongly related to vapor pressure deficit (VPD). SELn were 8.3 % of the total applied water. During daytime irrigations, SELn was 9.8 % of the irrigation water and slightly less than WDELg (10.9 %). During nighttime irrigations, SELn were slightly greater than WDELg (5.4 and 3.7 %, respectively). SELn was mainly a function of wind speed.  相似文献

Furrow diking in conservation tillage   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Crop production in the Southeastern U.S. can be limited by water; thus, supplemental irrigation is needed to sustain profitable crop production. Increased water capture would efficiently improve water use and reduce supplemental irrigation amounts/costs, thus improving producer's profit margin. We quantified infiltration (INF), runoff (R), and sediment (E) losses from furrow diked (+DT) and non-furrow diked (−DT) tilled conventional (CT) and strip tillage (ST) systems. In 2008, a field study (Tifton loamy sand, Typic Kandiudult) was established with DT, ST, and CT systems. In 2009, a field study (Faceville loamy sand, Typic Kandiudult) was established with DT and ST systems. Treatments (6) included: CT − DT, CT + DT, ST1 (1-year old) − DT, ST1 + DT, ST10 (10-year old) − DT, and ST10 + DT. Simulated rainfall (50 mm h−1 for 1 h) was applied to each 2-m × 3-m plots (n = 3). Runoff and E were measured from each 6-m2 plot. ST1 + DT plots had 80-88% less R than ST1 − DT plots. Any disturbance associated with DT in ST1 systems did not negatively impact E values. For both soils, CT − DT plots represented the worst-case scenario in terms of measured R and E; ST + DT plots represented the best-case scenario. Trends for R, E, and estimated plant available water (PAW) values decreased in order of CT − DT, CT + DT, ST1 − DT, ST1 + DT, ST10 − DT, and ST10 + DT treatments. From a hydrology standpoint, ST1 − DT plots behaved more similarly to CT plots than to other ST plots; from a sediment standpoint, ST1 − DT plots behaved more similarly to other ST plots than to CT plots. DT had no effect on ST10 plots. CT − DT and ST10 + DT plots resulted in 5.9 (worst-case) and 8.1 (best-case) days of water for crop use, a difference of 2.2 days of water for crop use or 37%. Compared to the CT − DT treatment, an agricultural field managed to CT + DT, ST1 − DT, ST1 + DT, ST10 − DT, and ST10 + DT would save a producer farming the CT − DT field $5.30, $9.42, $13.55, $14.14, and $14.14 ha−1, respectively, to pump the amount of water lost to R and not saved as INF back onto the field. The most water/cost savings occurred for CT and ST1 plots as a result of DT. Savings for CT + DT, ST1 − DT, and ST1 + DT treatments represent 27%, 47%, and 68% of the cost of DT ($20 ha−1) and 37%, 67%, and 96% of the savings a producer would have if managing the field to ST for 10 years without DT (ST10 − DT) in a single 50-mm rainfall event. For row-crop producers in the Southeastern U.S. with runoff producing rainfall events during the crop growing season, DT is a management practice that is cost-effective from a natural resource and financial standpoint for those producers that continue to use CT systems and especially those that have recently adopted ST systems into their farming operations.  相似文献

Improved water capture and erosion reduction through furrow diking   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Crop production in Georgia and the Southeastern U.S. can be limited by water; thus, supplemental irrigation is often needed to sustain profitable crop production. Increased water capture would efficiently improve water use and reduce irrigation amounts and other input costs, thus improving producer's profit margin. We quantified water capturing and erosional characteristics of furrow diking by comparing runoff (R) and soil loss (E) from furrow diked (DT) and non-furrow diked tilled (CT) systems. A field study (Faceville loamy sand, Typic Kandiudult) was established (2006 and 2007) near Dawson, GA with DT and CT systems managed to irrigated cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Treatments included: DT vs. CT; DT with and without shank (+/− S); and rainfall simulation performed (0, 60 days after tillage, DAT). Simulated rainfall (50 mm h−1 for 1 h) was applied to all 2 m × 3 m plots (n = 3). All runoff and E were measured from each flat, level sloping 6-m2 plot (slope = 1%). Compared to CT, DT decreased R and E by 14-28% and 2.0-2.8 times, respectively. Compared to DT − S, DT + S decreased R and E by 17-56% and 26% to 2.1 times, respectively. Compared to sealed/crusted soil conditions at 60 DAT, simulating rainfall on a freshly tilled seedbed condition (DAT = 0) decreased R by 69% to 3.4 times and increased E by 27%. DT0 + S + RF0 plots (best-case scenario) had 2.8 times less R, and 2.6 times less E than CT − S + RF60 plots (worst-case). Based on $1.17 ha-mm−1 to pump irrigation water and $18.50 ha−1 for DT, a producer in the Coastal Plain region of Georgia would recover cost of DT by saving the first 16 ha-mm of water. The DT + S system is a cost-effective management practice for producers in Georgia and the Southeastern U.S. that positively impacts natural resource conservation, producer profit margins, and environmental quality.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effect of different supplemental irrigation rates on chickpea grown under semiarid climatic conditions. Chickpea plots were irrigated with drip irrigation system and irrigation rates included the applications of 0 (I 0) 25 (I 25), 50 (I 50), 75 (I 75), 100 (I 100), and 125 % (I 125) of gravimetrically measured soil water deficit. Plant height, 1,000 seed weight, yield, biomass, and harvest index (HI) parameters were determined in addition to yield-water functions, evapotranspiration (ET), water use efficiency (WUE), and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE). Significant differences were noted for plant height (ranging from 24.0 to 37.5 cm), 1,000 seed weight (ranging from 192.0 to 428.7 g), and aboveground biomass (ranging from 2,722 to 6,083 kg ha?1) for water applications of I 0 and I 125. Statistical analysis indicated a strong relationship between the amount of irrigation and yield, which ranged from 256.5 to 1,957.3 kg ha?1. Harvest index values ranged between 0.092 and 0.325, while WUE and IWUE values ranged between 1.15–4.55 and 1.34–8.36 (kg ha?1 mm?1), respectively.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted for 3 years to evaluate the effect of deficit irrigation under different soil management practices on biomass production, grain yield, yield components and water productivity of spring wheat (Triticum estivum L.). Soil management practices consisted of tillage (conventional and deep tillage) and Farmyard manure (0 and 10 t ha?1 FYM). Line source sprinkler laterals were used to generate one full- (ETm) and four deficit irrigation treatments that were 88, 75, 62 and 46 % of ETm, and designated as ETd1, ETd2, ETd3, and ETd4. Deep tillage significantly enhanced grain yield (14–18 %) and water productivity (1.27–1.34 kg m?3) over conventional tillage. Similarly, application of FYM at 10 t ha?1 significantly improved grain yield (10–13 %) and water productivity (1.25–1.31 kg m?3) in comparison with no FYM. Grain yield response to irrigation varied significantly (5,281–2,704 kg ha?1) due to differences in soil water contents. Water productivity varied from 1.05 to 1.34 kg m?3, among the treatments in 3 years. The interactive effect of irrigation × tillage practices and irrigation × FYM on grain yield was significant. Yield performance proved that deficit irrigation (ETd2) subjected to 75 % soil water deficit had the smallest yield decline with significant water saving would be the most appropriate irrigation level for wheat production in arid regions.  相似文献

The increasing cost and scarcity of water for irrigation is placing pressure on Australian dairy farmers to utilize water more efficiently, and as result, water use efficiency (WUE) of forages is becoming an important criterion for sustainable dairy production. This study was conducted to identify more water use efficient forage species than the dominant dairy forage, perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Seventeen annual forage species were investigated under optimum irrigation (I1) and two deficit irrigation treatments (nominally 66 and 33% of irrigation water applied to the optimal level), over 3 years at Camden, NSW, on a brown Dermsol in a warm temperate climate. Forages with the highest yield generally had the highest WUEt (total yield/evapotranspiration). Under optimal irrigation, there was a three-fold difference in mean annual WUEt between forages, with maize (Zea mays L.) having the highest (42.9 kg ha−1 mm−1) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) the lowest (13.5 kg ha−1 mm−1), with 11 of the forage species having a greater WUEt than perennial ryegrass. The ‘harvested’ forages maize, wheat, triticale (Triticosecale rimpaui Wittm.) and maple pea (Pisum sativium L.) generally had higher mean WUEt (26.7-42.9 kg ha−1 mm−1) than the remaining forages which were defoliated multiple times to simulate grazing (13.5-30.1 kg ha−1 mm−1). The reduction in annual WUEt in response to deficit irrigation was greatest for the warm season forages with up to 30% reduction for maize, while most of the cool season annuals were not significantly affected by deficit irrigation at the levels imposed. In order to maximize WUEt of any forage, it is necessary to maximize yield, as there is a strong positive relationship between yield and WUEt. However, while WUEt is an important criterion for choosing dairy forages, it is only one factor in a complex system. Choice of forages must be considered on a whole farm basis and include consideration of yield, nutritive value, cost of production and risk.  相似文献

A volume-balance technique utilizing irrigation advance and recession functions, numerical integration, and an optimization procedure was developed to determine infiltration parameters. The procedure is simple yet rational and accounts for spatial variability of soil characteristics. The required data are flow rate, the coefficients and exponents of the advance and recession functions, and inflow shut-off time. In a field experiment on a clay loam soil (typical of southern Alberta) at the Lethbridge Research Centre, infiltration rates estimated by this technique were similar and in close agreement with those measured with a ring infiltrometer. Except for two border strips, there were no significant mean differences between simulated (Is) and measured (Im) infiltration rates. In the two non-conforming border strips, field measured infiltration rates were higher than those simulated with the volume balance approach, most likely due mainly to spatial variability of soil characteristics and partly to lateral flow which occasionally occurs when measuring infiltration with a ring infiltrometer.  相似文献

In the Mesilla Valley of southern New Mexico, furrow irrigation is the primary source of water for growing onions. As the demand for water increases, there will be increasing competition for this limited resource. Water management will become an essential practice used by farmers. Irrigation efficiency (IE) is an important factor into improving water management but so is economic return. Therefore, our objectives were to determine the irrigation efficiency, irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) and water use efficiency (WUE), under sprinkler, furrow, and drip irrigated onions for different yield potential levels and to determine the IE associated with the amount of water application for a sprinkler and drip irrigation systems that had the highest economic return.Maximum IE (100%) and economic return were obtained with a sprinkler system at New Mexico State University’s Agriculture Science Center at Farmington, NM. This IE compared with the 54–80% obtained with the sprinkler irrigation used by the farmers. The IEs obtained for onion fields irrigated with subsurface drip irrigation methods ranged from 45 to 77%. The 45% represents the nonstressed treatments, in which an extra amount of irrigation above the evapotranspiration (Et) requirement was applied to keep the base of the onion plates wet. The irrigation water that was not used for Et went to deep drainage water. The return on the investment cost to install a drip system operated at a IE of 45 was 29%. Operating the drip system at a IE of 79% resulted in a yield similar to surface irrigated onions and consequently, it was not economical to install a drip system. The IEs at the furrow-irrigated onion fields ranged from 79 to 82%. However, the IEs at the furrow-irrigated onion fields were high because farmers have limited water resources. Consequently, they used the concept of deficit irrigation to irrigate their onion crops, resulting in lower yields. The maximum IWUE (0.084 t ha−1 mm−1 of water applied) was obtained using the sprinkler system, in which water applied to the field was limited to the amount needed to replace the onions’ Et requirements. The maximum IWUE values for onions using the subsurface drip was 0.059 and 0.046 t ha−1 mm−1 of water applied for furrow-irrigated onions. The lower IWUE values obtained under subsurface drip and furrow irrigation systems compared with sprinkler irrigation was due to excessive irrigation under subsurface drip and higher evaporation rates from fields using furrow irrigation. The maximum WUE for onions was 0.009 t ha−1 mm−1 of Et. In addition, WUE values are reduced by allowing the onions to suffer from water stress.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to present a methodology to analyse the main factors that influence annual water application costs in centre pivot irrigation systems and to determine the most cost-effective centre pivot design, given the variables of machine length, lateral pipe diameter, sprinkler type (LEPA and fixed and rotating spray plate sprinklers (FSPS and RSPS)), system capacity, application efficiency, and water and energy costs for the irrigation of crops such as maize under conditions in Spain. Annual water application costs were calculated as the sum of the investment (Ca), energy (Ce), water (Cw), and equipment maintenance costs (Cm). Parameters used to assess the influences on pivot design were system capacity S c = 1.25 L s?1 ha?1; application efficiency Ea = 80% for FSPS, Ea = 85% for RSPS, and Ea = 90% for LEPA; water price P w = 0.06 € m?3 (0.081 US dollars); energy price Ene = 0.10 € kWh?1 (0.135 US dollars); net annual crop irrigation water requirement N n = 7,000 m3 ha?1 year?1; and net daily peak crop water requirement N nmax = 7.63 mm d?1 for maize. Results indicate that for plots smaller than 30 ha, the recommended pipeline diameter is 127.0 mm (5 in); for 30–40 ha, 168.3 mm (6 5/8 in); for 40–75 ha, 219.1 mm (8 5/8 in); and for 75–100 ha, 254.0 mm (10 in). A multidiameter pipe solution only slightly reduced water application costs in most cases studied. It was also determined that water costs and irrigation efficiency have a major influence on the total annual cost of water application; however, system capacity and energy price did not strongly affect total cost. For this reason, water application uniformity is very important and can be accomplished using a proper nozzle package and regular maintenance. The paper helps farmers determine the most cost-effective centre pivot design and management.  相似文献

Depleting groundwater resources in Indian Punjab call for diversifying from rice to crops with low evapo-transpiration needs and adopting water-saving technologies. Soybean offers a diversification option in coarse- to medium-textured soils. However, its productivity in these soils is constrained by high soil mechanical resistance and high soil temperature during early part of the growing season. These constraints can be alleviated through irrigation, deep tillage and straw mulching. This 3-years field study examines the individual and combined effects of irrigation, deep tillage, and straw mulching regimes on soybean yield and water productivity (WP) in relation to soil texture. Combinations of two irrigation regimes viz., full irrigation (If), and partial irrigation (Ip) in the main plot; two tillage regimes viz., conventional-till (CT)-soil stirring to 0.10 m depth, and deep tillage (DT)-chiseling down to 0.35 m depth followed by CT in the subplot; and two mulch rates viz., 0 (M0) and 6 t ha−1 (M) in the sub-subplot on two soils differing in available water capacity were evaluated.Seed yield was greater in the sandy loam than in the loamy sand reflecting the effects of available water capacity. Irrigation effects were greater on loamy sand (40%) than on sandy loam (5%) soil. Deep tillage benefits were also more on loamy sand (14%) compared to sandy loam (5%) soil. Yield gains with mulching were comparable on the two soils (19%). An evaluation of interaction effects showed that mulching response was slightly more in Ip (20%) than in If regimes (17%) in the sandy loam; while in the loamy sand, mulching gains were comparable (18-19%) in both irrigation regimes. Benefits of deep tillage in the loamy sand soil were more in Ip (20%) than in If regimes (17%). Deep tillage and straw mulching enhanced WP (ratio of seed yield/water use) from 1.39 to 1.97 kg ha−1 mm−1 in Ip regime, and from 1.87 to 2.33 kg ha−1 mm−1 in If regime in the loamy sand soil. These effects on WP were less in the sandy loam soil with greater available water capacity. Yield and WP gains are ascribed to deeper and denser rooting due to moderation of soil temperature and water conservation with straw mulching and tillage-induced reduction in soil mechanical resistance. Root mass in CTM0, CTM, DTM0 and DTM was 2.79, 5.88, 5.34 and 5.58 mg cm−2 at pod-filling in the loamy sand soil. Comparable yield responses to deep tillage or mulching in the loamy sand soil suggest that either of the options, depending on their cost and availability considerations, can be employed for improving soybean yield and water productivity.  相似文献

In this research, the effects of soil water retention barriers (SWRB) and irrigation levels on soil water content, perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne c.v Caddieshack) water consumption, fresh clipping yield, visual quality and leaf water content were investigated in 2010 and 2011. Treatments consisted of SWRB application at two different soil depths (30 and 40 cm) and three different irrigation levels (100, 66 and 33 % of available water-holding capacity) in sandy soil. Results showed that placement of SWRB at 40 cm depth (SWRB40) together with 34 % water deficit saved 52 % irrigation water compared with the control (no SWRB) treatment. Additionally, 498 and 653 mm total irrigation water were applied. The mean daily plant water consumption values were 5.94 and 6.51 mm in 2010 and 2011, respectively, in the SWRB40 treatment.  相似文献

Wetting pattern can be obtained by either direct measurement of soil wetting in field, which is site specific, or by simulation using some models. Use of numerical or analytical flow models for design purpose is considered cumbersome and impractical in many situations. Therefore, present study was undertaken to develop a model for wetting pattern under trickle source in sandy soil of Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh. In the present study, the drip irrigation system was operated to record observed wetting front advance (vertical and horizontal) of emitters with flow rates of 2, 4 and 10?l?h?1. A fixed quantity of 4?l of water was applied to the bare dry soil kept in a container of perspex sheet (1?m?×?1?m?×?0.9?m). The wetting front advance was observed just after irrigation and its subsequent redistribution after 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24 and 48?h respectively after irrigation. Using Buckingham π theorem, a semi-empirical model was developed to simulate the wetting front pattern under trickle point source at the end of irrigation. Performance of the model just after irrigation was evaluated by comparing estimated values against observed values using F test, t test, ME and RMSE values. The redistribution of the wetting front geometry with respect to elapsed time was modelled with regression analysis using four models viz. linear, logarithmic, exponential and power. Power function was found to be the best fit for horizontal wetting front (W) as well as vertical wetting front advance (Z) based on the highest R 2 value.  相似文献

In the Yucheng region along the lower reach of the Yellow River, current border irrigation systems in all three irrigation districts have low irrigation performances with the applied depth per irrigation event >150 mm, and application efficiency <65 %. It is often difficult to change irrigation practices, and rates of adoption are usually slow for China’s small-scale farmers. This study emphasizes the feasibility of optimizing border dimensions in border irrigation taking into consideration the existing irrigation conditions and farmers’ methods of irrigation practice. The performances of current border irrigation systems and improved systems were evaluated using agricultural irrigation survey data, field experimental data, and a simulation model. The irrigation conditions, that is, inflow rate, border dimensions, and relative cutoff distance, in the irrigation districts were found to be diverse. However, after border dimensions were optimized through simulation and field testing, it was determined that the applied depth per irrigation event could be decreased by an average of 49 mm, and the application efficiency could be increased on average by 26.7 % in the three irrigation districts. The annual potential amount of water savings among the three districts was calculated to be approximately 5,551 × 104 m3 in the Yucheng region. Optimizing border dimensions is a practical technology for small-scale farming practices in the irrigation districts along the lower Yellow River.  相似文献

Furrow irrigation can be better managed if the management decision variables (irrigation time and amount; inflow rate and cutoff) can be determined ahead of time. In this study, these decision variables were forecast and optimized using 1 day ahead grass reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) forecasts, based on the ARMA (1,1) time-series model, with a seasonal furrow irrigation model for both homogeneous and heterogeneous infiltration conditions. Heterogeneity in infiltration characteristics was restricted to variations along the furrow length as opposed to variations between furrows. The results obtained were compared with their counterparts using the observed ET0 for the same period during the 1992 cropping season. Seasonal performance (application efficiency, inflow, runoff and deep percolation volumes) and economic return to water (yield benefits minus seasonal water related and labor costs) were affected by infiltration conditions, while irrigation requirement and bean yield were unchanged. In a given infiltration case, seasonal performance, irrigation schedules, bean yield and economic return to water were comparable (lower than 4% difference) for the two ET0 conditions. For each ET0 condition, individual irrigation events resulted in different irrigation designs (inflow rate and cutoff time) except inflow rates with heterogeneous infiltration. Differences in inflow volume were less than 2% and 5%, respectively, for homogeneous infiltration and heterogeneous infiltration. For the conditions studied, furrow irrigation management decision variables can be forecast and optimized to better manage the irrigation system, because irrigation performance was the same for both (forecast and observed) ET0 cases. Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz is a promising, biodiesel-producing oilseed that could potentially be implemented as a low-input alternative crop for production in the arid southwestern USA. However, little is known about camelina’s water use, irrigation management, and agronomic characteristics in this arid environment. Camelina experiments were conducted for 2 years (January to May in 2008 and 2010) in Maricopa, Arizona, to evaluate the effectiveness of previously developed heat unit and remote sensing basal crop coefficient (K cb ) methods for predicting camelina crop evapotranspiration (ET) and irrigation scheduling. Besides K cb methods, additional treatment factors included two different irrigation scheduling soil water depletion (SWD) levels (45 and 65 %) and two levels of seasonal N applications within a randomized complete block design with 4 blocks. Soil water content measurements taken in all treatment plots and applied in soil water balance calculations were used to evaluate the predicted ET. The heat-unit K cb method was updated and validated during the second experiment to predict ET to within 12–13 % of the ET calculated by the soil water balance. The remote sensing K cb method predicted ET within 7–10 % of the soil water balance. Seasonal ET from the soil water balance was significantly greater for the remote sensing than heat-unit K cb method and significantly greater for the 45 than 65 % SWD level. However, final seed yield means, which varied from 1,500 to 1,640 kg ha?1 for treatments, were not significantly different between treatments or years. Seed oil contents averaged 45 % in both years. Seed yield was found to be linearly related to seasonal ET with maximum yield occurring at about 470–490 mm of seasonal ET. Differences in camelina seed yields due to seasonal N applications (69–144 kg N ha?1 over the 2 years) were not significant. Further investigations are needed to characterize camelina yield response over a wider range of irrigation and N inputs.  相似文献

Performance of tomato when irrigated with sodic waters particularly under drip irrigation is not well known. A field experiment was conducted for 3 years to study the response of tomato crop to sodic water irrigation on a sandy loam soil. Irrigation waters having 0, 5 and 10 mmolc L−1 residual sodium carbonate (RSC) were applied through drip and furrow irrigation to two tomato cultivars, Edkawi (a salt tolerant cultivar) and Punjab Chhuhara (PC). High RSC of irrigation water significantly increased soil pH, ECe and exchangeable sodium percentage progressively; the increases were higher in furrow compared to drip irrigation. Effect of high RSC on increasing bulk density and decreasing infiltration rate of soil was also pronounced in furrow-irrigated plots. Higher soil moisture and lower salinity near the plant was maintained under drip irrigation than under furrow irrigation. Performance of the two cultivars was significantly different; pooled over 2002–03 and 2003–04 seasons, PC yielded 38.8 and 30.0 Mg ha−1 and Edkawi yielded 31.8 and 22.9 Mg ha−1 under drip and furrow irrigation, respectively. At RSC10, cultivar PC produced 38 and 46% higher fruit yield than cultivar Edkawi under drip and furrow irrigation, respectively. Reduction in fruit yield at higher RSC was due to lower fruit weight under drip irrigation and due to reduced fruit number as well as fruit weight under furrow irrigation. Decrease in fruit weight was more pronounced in cultivar Edkawi than in cultivar PC. Increase in RSC lowered quality of the fruits except the ascorbic acid content. High RSC under drip irrigation, in general, had lesser deteriorating effect on the fruit quality particularly for cultivar PC than under furrow irrigation. For obtaining high tomato yield and better-quality fruits using high RSC sodic waters, drip irrigation should be preferred over furrow irrigation. Better performance of local cultivar PC compared to Edkawi at medium and high RSC suggests that cultivars categorized as tolerant to salinity should be evaluated in the sodic environment particularly when irrigated with high RSC sodic waters.  相似文献

TDR was used to estimate furrow infiltration, which is a key component in furrow irrigation system design and management. Furrow irrigation experiments were conducted on bare and cropped fields consisting of three 40 m long parabolic shaped furrows spaced at 0.8 m on a slope of 0.5%. The centre furrow was taken as the study furrow and the other two provided a buffer to the centre furrow. Altogether, 22 irrigations were conducted during 2004 and 2005 with inflow rates ranging from 0.1 to 0.7 l s−1. TDR probes were installed vertically around the centre furrow at four locations 0.5 (S1), 13 (S2), 26 (S3) and 39.5 m (S4) from the inlet end. The S1 and S3 locations had four TDR probes installed at 0.15, 0.30, 0.45 and 0.60 m depths whereas the S2 and S4 locations had two probes each at 0.15 and 0.30 m depths. Soil moisture data collected at 5-min intervals were used to determine the average soil moisture content of the field. The change in moisture content was used to estimate the furrow infiltration which was compared with that measured using an inflow–outflow (IO) method. The performance of the TDR method was studied by calculating the absolute prediction error (APE), root mean square error (RMSE) and index of agreement (I a). It was found that the TDR-method estimated furrow infiltration well for higher inflow rates and during the initial stages of irrigation. APE decreased and I a increased with increase in flow rate for both bare and cropped conditions. The APE and RMSE were found to be larger for a cropped field than the bare field when irrigated at the same inflow rate. The accuracy of the TDR-method for estimating total infiltration was improved by using the average field moisture content of 30 or 45 min after the recession phase ceased. These results indicate that TDR can be used to estimate in situ infiltration under furrow irrigation.  相似文献

Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grapevines were irrigated at 70 or 23 % of estimated crop evapotranspiration throughout berry development over four growing seasons. Stomatal behavior was characterized by relating predawn leaf water potential and mid-morning stomatal conductance to mid-morning leaf water potential. Seasonal average weekly midday leaf water potential was lower in Cabernet Sauvignon than Malbec despite similar irrigation amounts. Both cultivars exhibited anisohydric behavior with midday leaf water potential decreasing linearly with declining predawn leaf water potential (r 2 = 0.51) and stomatal conductance (r 2 = 0.42). However, both cultivars utilized hydrodynamic mechanisms to maintain a soil-to-leaf water potential gradient of ?0.62 (±0.03) MPa under standard irrigation and ?0.75 (±0.04) MPa under reduced irrigation. Berry fresh weight and titratable acidity decreased, and the concentration of total anthocyanins increased in both cultivars in response to decreases in midday leaf water potential. The slope of regression equations for seasonal mean midday leaf water potential was used to estimate cultivar-specific levels of water stress associated with changes in berry weight and berry composition at fruit maturity.  相似文献

Effect of irrigation method and quantity on squash yield and quality   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Squash yield and quality under furrow and trickle irrigation methods and their responses to different irrigation quantities were evaluated in 2010 spring and fall growing seasons. A field experiment was conducted using squash (Cucurbita pepo L.) grown in northern Egypt at Shibin El Kom, Menofia. A randomized split-plot design was used with irrigation methods as main plots and different irrigation quantities randomly distributed within either furrow or trickle irrigation methods. Irrigation quantity was a fraction of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) as: 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, and 1.5 ETc. Each treatment was repeated three times, two of five rows from each replicate were left for squash seed production. In well-watered conditions (1.0 ETc), seasonal water use by squash was 304 and 344 mm over 93 days in spring and 238 and 272 mm over 101 days in fall under trickle and furrow irrigation methods, respectively. Squash fruit yield and quality were significantly affected by season and both irrigation method and quantity. Fruit number and length were not affected by irrigation method and growing season, respectively. Interaction between season and irrigation quantity significantly affected leaf area index, total soluble solid (TSS), and fruit weight. Moreover, seed yield and quality were significantly affected by growing season and both irrigation method and quantity except harvest index, which was not affected by irrigation method. Significant differences for the interaction between season and irrigation method were only found for seed yield and 100 seeds weight. Except for harvest index, no significant difference was observed by interaction between season and irrigation quantity. Both fruit and seed yields were significantly affected in a linear relationship (r2 ≥ 0.91) by either deficit or surplus irrigation quantities under both irrigation methods. Adequate irrigation quantity under trickle irrigation, relative to that of furrow, enhanced squash yield and improved its quality in both growing seasons. Fall growing season was not appropriate for seed production due to obtaining many of empty seeds caused by low weather variables at the end of the season. The results from small experiment were extrapolated to large field to find out optimal irrigation scheduling under non-uniform of irrigation application.  相似文献
