The effects of graded levels of phytic acid on skeletal development and mineral deposition were investigated in an 80 day feeding trial with Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) parr. The level of phytic acid had no significant effect on the phosphorus (P) content of either whole body or vertebral column of Atlantic salmon. Negative effects of high phytic acid levels were, however, found on whole body concentration of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and in the Ca:P ratio, and in the vertebral column concentration of zinc (Zn). A novel type of vertebral pathology was observed, hyper dense (HD) vertebrae. The HD vertebrae appeared denser on radiographic images, and they consisted of a denser trabecular network than the surrounding vertebrae. The number of fish with HD vertebrae increased from initially 16% to 45-60%, with a tendency of more fish with HD vertebrae with increasing dietary phytic acid content. The HD vertebrae are described and illustrated with radiographic images, whole mount staining, and histology.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of feed intake on the apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of astaxanthin including the major geometrical E/Z-isomers in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Atlantic salmon (50 per pen, initial weight 2 kg) were kept in 125 m3 sea pens equipped with an excess feed collection system to monitor and quantify accurate feed intake, and subjected to three treatments in triplicate. All salmon were fed the same diet supplemented with 47 mg astaxanthin per kg. Two treatments were fed full or restricted rations corresponding to 100 or 40% of apparent satiation, respectively, with a switch in ration between two consecutive feeding periods (14 and 3 d, respectively), whereas the control treatment was fed to 100% of apparent satiation during both periods. The corresponding feed intakes were 0.45 and 0.16% of biomass for salmon fed 100% or 40% of apparent satiation, respectively. Faeces were collected by stripping at the end of each feeding period and ADCs of astaxanthin were determined by an indirect method using yttrium oxide (Y2O3) as an indigestible marker. Feed intake and astaxanthin ADC were negatively correlated (R2 = 0.64; p = 0.0001). Astaxanthin ADC was 1.5 times higher at the low compared to the high ration level (p < 0.05), but due to the low feed intake the total amount of digested astaxanthin was only about 50% of that in fish fed to satiation. The ADCs of the all-E and 13Z-isomers of astaxanthin were similar and considerably higher than for 9Z-astaxanthin (p < 0.05). The amount of digested astaxanthin/TGC (estimated thermal growth coefficient) decreased with increasing feed intake. Estimates of astaxanthin retention indicated that a higher feed intake cause a lower muscle concentration of astaxanthin compared to that obtained at low feed intakes due to the lower digestibility. Blood samples were collected at the end of the second feeding period to examine possible relationships between plasma carotenoids, feed intake and ADC. Salmon without faeces in the hindgut had a lower plasma astaxanthin concentration compared to salmon with faeces in the hindgut (p < 0.05). In conclusion, feed intake and astaxanthin ADC are negatively correlated, and may thus explain reductions in muscle retention of Atlantic salmon.  相似文献

Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) postsmolts (0.17–0.26 kg) were exposed to four different levels of carbon dioxide partial pressure for 43 days in an open flow system: 0.6 mm Hg (control), 4.9 mm Hg (low), 12 mm Hg (medium), and 20 mm Hg (high). The water temperature was 15–16°C and the salinity 34‰. In the low carbon dioxide group (PCO2=4.9 mm Hg; 10.6 mg/l), no significant differences were found in blood parameters (haematocrit, plasma chloride and plasma sodium) or in growth parameters (weight, length and condition factor) when compared to the control group. After 43 days, the mean plasma chloride concentration for the medium group (PCO2=12 mm Hg; 26 mg/l) was significantly reduced, while weight and condition factor were slightly, although not significantly, lowered. For the high carbon dioxide group (PCO2=20 mm Hg; 44 mg/l) plasma sodium and plasma pH were significantly increased and plasma chloride, oxygen consumption, weight, length and condition factor were significantly reduced at the end of exposure. There was no mortality in the control group or in the low carbon dioxide group. The mortalities in the medium and high carbon dioxide groups were 1.1 and 4.3%, respectively. Nephrocalsinosis was not observed in any of the groups. The results of the present investigation indicate that the CO2 concentration of the low group may represent a safe level for Atlantic salmon postsmolts when the temperature is 15–16°C and the oxygen level is 6–7 mg/l. Further studies are required.  相似文献

This study investigates the effect of different smolt production strategies on vertebral morphology (radiology), composition (mineral content) and mechanical strength (load-deformation testing) in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Rapid-growing underyearling (0+) smolt were compared with slower-growing yearling (1+) smolt and a reference group of wild smolt (w). The underyearling and yearling smolt were transferred to seawater in October 2002 and May 2003, respectively. The underyearling smolt were reared under continuous light and the yearling smolt under natural light during the first twelve weeks in seawater, at ambient temperatures. Thus, the underyearling smolt hit seawater at 13 °C and were reared at 10-13 °C during the early seawater phase, whereas the yearling smolt hit seawater at 7 °C and were reared at 7-10 °C during the early seawater phase. All groups displayed increased longitudinal growth (up to 9% increase in relative length) of the caudal vertebrae during parr-smolt transformation. However, at transfer to seawater, the underyearling smolt had significantly lower vertebral mineral content (0+ 44%, 1+ 47%, w 50%) and higher incidence of deformed vertebrae (0+ 1.5%, 1+ 0%, w 0%), and at twelve weeks after transfer to seawater significantly lower vertebral mineral content (0+ 36%, 1+ 41%, w 43%), yield-load (0+ 6492 g, 1+ 8797 g, w 9150 g) and stiffness (0+ 7578 g/mm, 1+ 15,161 g/mm, w 20,523 g/mm), and significantly higher incidence of deformed vertebrae (0+ 2.5%, 1+ 0.3%, w 0%). There was a significant correlation between the mineral content and mechanical properties of the vertebrae. The underyearling smolt had significantly elevated plasma concentrations of total Ca, and P and Ca2+ during the parr-smolt transformation and in the early seawater phase. The results show that underyearling smolt may have an increased risk of developing vertebral deformities. It is possible that this risk can be reduced by postponing the start of the short-day treatment. This will reduce the temperature during smoltification, the temperature and daylength during the early seawater phase, and increase the age at smoltification.  相似文献

This study investigated the development of skeletal deformities in individually tagged Atlantic salmon (n = 805) from the parr stage (Sept 2001, 70 g mean ± 34 g S.D.) until 10 month after transfer to seawater (Feb 2003, 3040 g mean ± 1097 g S.D.). A subgroup of the total population (n = 129) was radiographed as parr (Feb 2002) and again 10 months after transfer to seawater (Feb 2003). Eight percent of the males matured sexually during their first autumn in sea (jack), and were excluded from further analysis. Based on an external examination of each fish (n = 773), 1.8% (n = 14) developed skeletal deformities (0.1% operculum deformities (n = 1), 0.4% jaw deformities (n = 3), 1.3% vertebral deformities (n = 10)) during the experiment. Based on evaluation of radiographs (n = 129), the prevalence of vertebral deformities was 7.0% (n = 9) at the parr stage, and 12.4% (n = 16) 10 months after transfer to seawater. From radiographs, longitudinally compressed vertebral bodies without intervertebral spaces were classified as ankylosis and compression, longitudinally compressed vertebral bodies with intervertebral spaces were classified as compressions, and dislocated vertebral bodies with a normal morphology and without intervertebral spaces were classified as ankylosis and dislocation. Of the fish that developed deformities during the experiment, 8 had ankylosis and compressions, 7 had compressions and 1 had ankylosis and dislocation. Ankylosis and compression developed in the region between vertebrae number 1 and 16, whereas compressions developed in the region between vertebrae number 13 and 49. Most of the individuals with compression 10 months after transfer to seawater had normal vertebral columns as parr, whereas all individuals with compression and ankylosis 10 months after transfer to seawater had deformed vertebral columns as parr.  相似文献

This study investigated the individual variation in vertebral morphology and mineral content (as % of bone dry weight) in rapid growing underyearling smolt (n = 33) twelve weeks after transfer to seawater. The smolt, which were reared in triplicate tanks, had a large individual variation in vertebral bone mineral content (Tank A: 36.2% min, 45.2% max, 39.6% mean. Tank B: 32.6% min, 46.6% max, 40.0% mean. Tank C: 38.5% min, 47.9% max, 42.4% mean), and were subdivided into two groups based on mean within each tank: high mineral content (HMC, above tank mean, n = 15) and low mineral content (LMC, below tank mean, n = 18). Vertebrae of smolt with a low mineral content were more compressed in the anterior–posterior direction (HMC vertebral length/dorso-ventral diameter ratio 0.83, LMC 0.80). This was related to a change in the growth direction of the vertebral cone. This change occurred around transfer to seawater and was characterised by an increased angle between the wall of the cone of the vertebrae and the cranial–caudal axis, and gave the vertebrae a compressed appearance. Smolt with a high mineral content were significantly longer (HMC 28.1 cm, LMC 26.5 cm) and heavier (HMC 270 g, LMC 210 g) twelve weeks after transfer to seawater.  相似文献

Available data on the quantitative requirement for lysine (Lys) in different salmonids show much variability. So far, there are very limited data on the maintenance requirements of indispensable (I) amino acids (AA) in fish. In the present study, we determined simultaneously the Lys requirements for maintenance and for protein accretion in Atlantic salmon fry by adapting a protocol established for the piglet. Groups of fish having an initial body weight of 1.5 g were fed for 28 days on isoenergetic diets with increasing nitrogen (N) content supplied by cod meal and a mixture of crystalline AAs (50% of total dietary N). Except the protein-free diet (PF; 0.2% dry matter (DM)), the N content of the other diets was either low (2.9% DM), medium (6.2% DM) or high (8.5% DM). Two types of diets with the same N content were formulated. The AA pattern of three control diets was based on the AA pattern of the cod meal protein. For the other three diets, Lys·HCl was totally omitted from the low-N diet (LPD), and 50% of Lys·HCl was removed from the medium- and high-N diets. After a 28-day feeding trial, carcass N and Lys gains were estimated. N and Lys requirements for maintenance and for growth were calculated regressing daily N or Lys gain against N or Lys intakes. The daily N requirement for growth above maintenance was 3.05 g per g protein gain and for maintenance it was 54 mg kg body weight− 0.75. From the regression between protein and Lys intake, we calculated that for the accretion of 1 g body protein, the dietary Lys requirement was 152 mg, and that the Lys maintenance requirement for zero N gain was 20 mg kg body weight− 0.75/day. This last value is higher than the previous estimations obtained for rainbow trout and could be explained by the lower body weight or age of the fish used here.  相似文献

This study investigated whether the efficiency of lysine utilisation for liveweight gain, protein gain and lysine gain was affected by feeding regime in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) parr. Twelve diets containing from 10.15 to 20.79 g dietary digestible lysine kg− 1 were hand-fed either to satiation or to a controlled fixed ration. The controlled ration was set to equal the feed intake of the basal (lowest) lysine diet so that any growth above that of the group fed the basal diet at the controlled ration was due entirely to the additional dietary lysine. For both feeding regimes, with increasing dietary lysine there were significant linear increases in liveweight gain (P < 0.001) and in protein (P < 0.001) and lysine (P < 0.01) concentration of liveweight gain. Increasing dietary lysine resulted in a significant (P < 0.001) linear increase in feed intake at satiation. Efficiency of lysine utilisation for liveweight gain above maintenance lysine intake was significantly (P < 0.005) higher at satiation than for the controlled ration: 47.7 compared to 34.9 mg liveweight gain per mg digestible lysine intake, respectively. However, feeding regime had no significant effect on the efficiency of lysine utilisation for protein or lysine gain. This study demonstrated that feed intake does not influence the efficiency of lysine utilisation for protein or lysine gain in Atlantic salmon parr. The change in weight-specific lysine composition suggests a robust physiological mechanism maintaining the efficiency of lysine utilisation for lysine gain in Atlantic salmon parr.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to study dietary fat type (fish oil (FO) vs. vegetable oil) effect on lipid and glucose metabolism in post-smolt Atlantic salmon. Duplicate groups of salmon were fed one of eight diets in which the two fat sources FO (long chain n-3 fatty acids, FA) or linseed oil (LO) (short chain n-3 FA) were combined in a 2 × 4 factorial design with sunflower oil (SO) (rich in n-6 FA) at inclusion levels of 0, 25, 50 and 75% of total added fat. The effects of the diets on plasma metabolites, the activity of selected enzymes involved in lipid metabolism, biometric indices and muscle glucose transporter GLUT4 expression were determined after 12 weeks of feeding. Lower viscero-somatic indices (VSI) and fatty livers were observed in fish fed LO based diets. Increasing inclusion levels of SO affected plasma glucose concentration in fish fed FO based diets, and plasma triglycerides, which decreased in a linear and quadratic pattern in fish fed FO based diets, but increased linearly in fish fed LO based diets. Specific activity of liver carnitine palmitoyl transferase I (CPT I) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and plasma nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) concentration was higher in fish fed LO based diets. Two GLUT4 isoforms I and II have been described in muscle and proved to be differentially expressed related to dietary fatty acids. In summary, dietary fat type affects lipid metabolism in post-smolted Atlantic salmon. In addition, a possibility to interfere on glucose metabolism by means of dietary fat type is discussed.  相似文献

In order to evaluate manipulation of spawning time as a potential means to extend 0+ Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) smolt production in Tasmania, Australia, female salmon were exposed to a natural/simulated natural (42°S) photoperiod or an advanced (L:D 9:15) photoperiod from the austral summer solstice (20 December) under natural or advanced (~ 6 °C below natural temperature) temperature conditions. In late summer (26 February) injections of a commercial LHRHa preparation or vehicle (propylene glycol) commenced. Regular ovulation checks were conducted and ova were fertilised using milt from LHRHa-injected males held under matching photo-thermal conditions. Plasma levels of 17β-estradiol (E2) and testosterone (T) were monitored and reproductive success (cumulative % ovulation, % fertilisation and % survival to the eyed-egg stage) was recorded. Ovulations commenced first (09 March) in LHRHa-treated fish that experienced advanced photoperiod and thermal regimes whereas sham-treated fish exposed to natural photoperiod and temperature conditions where the last to ovulate (22 May-08 June). Treatment-related sequential changes in the timing of ovulations were reflected by sequential advances in the timing of peaks in plasma levels of E2 and T. The fertilisation of ova from LHRHa-treated fish that experienced advanced photoperiod and thermal regimes was significantly reduced (~ 52%) relative to all other treatments (> 80%) but there were no significant treatment-related differences in the survivals of eggs to the eyed stage (~ 50-90%). Consequently, a maximum advance in the timing of median ovulation of 71 days and commercially acceptable eyed-egg yields were generated, demonstrating that combinations of photoperiod, thermal and hormone treatments may be employed to significantly extend spawning and thereafter increase the availability of 0+ smolts for grow-out.  相似文献

Replacement of fish oil with sustainable alternatives, such as vegetable oil, in aquaculture diets has to be achieved without compromising the nutritional quality, in terms of n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) content, of the product. This may be possible if the level of replacement is not too high and oil blends are chosen carefully but, if high levels of fish oil are substituted, a fish oil finishing diet prior to harvest would be required to restore n-3HUFA. However, a decontaminated fish oil would be required to avoid increasing undesirable contaminants. Here we test the hypotheses that blending of rapeseed and soybean oils with southern hemisphere fish oil will have a low impact upon tissue n-3HUFA levels, and that decontamination of fish oil will have no major effect on the nutritional quality of fish oil as a feed ingredient for Atlantic salmon. Salmon (initial weight ~ 0.8 kg) were fed for 10 weeks with diets in which 60% of fish oil was replaced with blends of soybean, rapeseed and southern hemisphere fish oil (SVO) or 100% decontaminated northern fish oil (DFO) in comparison with a standard northern fish oil diet (FO). Decontamination of the oil was a two-step procedure that included treatment with activated carbon followed by thin film deodorisation. Growth performance and feed efficiency were unaffected by either the SVO or DFO diets despite these having lower gross nutrient and fatty acid digestibilities than the FO diet. There were also no effects on the gross composition of the fish. Liver and, to a lesser extent flesh, lipid levels were lower in fish fed the SVO blends, due to lower proportions of neutral lipids, specifically triacylglycerol. Tissue lipid levels were not affected in fish fed the DFO diet. Reflecting the diet, flesh eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and total n-3 fatty acids were higher, and 18:1n-9 lower, in fish fed DFO than FO, whereas there were no differences in liver fatty acid compositions. Flesh EPA levels were only slightly reduced from about 6% to 5% although docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) was reduced more severely from around 13% to about 7% in fish fed the SVO diets. In contrast, the liver fatty acid compositions showed higher levels of n-3 HUFA, with DHA only reduced from 21% to about 18% and EPA increased from under 8% to 9–10% in fish fed the SVO diets. The evidence suggested that increased liver EPA (and arachidonic acid) was not simply retention, but also conversion of dietary 18:3n-3 and 18:2n-6. Increased HUFA synthesis was supported by increased hepatic expression of fatty acyl desaturases in fish fed the SVO diets. Flesh n-3HUFA levels and desaturase expression was significantly higher in fish fed soybean oil than in fish fed rapeseed oil. In conclusion, partial replacement of fish oil with blends of vegetable oils and southern hemisphere fish oil had minimal impact on HUFA levels in liver, but a greater effect on flesh HUFA levels. Despite lower apparent digestibility, decontamination of fish oil did not significantly impact its nutritional quality for salmon.  相似文献

Gastrointestinal lipid absorption in Atlantic salmon was studied following force-feeding with a standard grower diet to which isotope-labelled free fatty acid (FFA) [1-14C]-decanoic acid (14C-10:0) and triacylglycerol (TAG) [9,10-3H(N)]-triolein (trioleic acid; 3H-18:1) were added. Following force-feeding, the 15 fish, with an average weight of 704 g, were kept in five circular tanks, three fish per tank, supplied with seawater (salinity, 32 g l−1). At 3, 6, 12, 18 and 48 h, the fish from one tank were killed, and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract was removed and divided into six segments: stomach (ST), anterior, mid, and distal pyloric ceca (PCA, PCM, and PCD, respectively), mid intestine (MI), and distal intestine (DI). The levels of radioactivity (dpm [disintegrations per minute] μg−1 tissue) from the 14C-10:0 and the 3H-18:1 substrates were measured in tissue samples from each segment, allowing an estimation of the amounts of fatty acid substrates absorbed from the lumen into the intestinal cells. The highest levels of radioactivity from both fatty acid substrates were measured in tissue from pyloric ceca (PC) 12 to 18 h after force-feeding. The level of radioactivity from the 14C-10:0 substrate was significantly higher in the PCA than in the PCM and PCD, while there was no clear difference in the level of radioactivity from the 3H-18:1 substrate measured among the different PC tissue segments and the level measured in MI. The level of radioactivity in tissue from DI was negligible to low for both fatty acid substrates. Total lipid accumulation in tissue from PCM, MI and DI was quantified morphometrically at each sampling point using light microscopy and image analysis. These results confirmed the findings from the isotope study, where the highest levels of fat were present at 12 and 18 h following force-feeding. In conclusion, PC was the most important site for fatty acid absorption in the GI tract of Atlantic salmon.  相似文献

The effect of phytase supplementation to a canola-meal-based diet on phosphorus utilisation in Atlantic salmon was studied in a two-by-two factorial design. Diets were prepared without phytase or inorganic phosphorus supplementation, with phytase, with supplemental inorganic phosphorus and with both phytase and supplemental inorganic phosphorus. Available phosphorus was set below requirement and the total phosphorus set to meet requirements for salmonids. After 12 weeks, there were no significant differences in survival, feed intake and weight gain between diets. There was an interaction effect between supplements on bone ash, bone phosphorus and whole-body phosphorus so that adding phytase, inorganic phosphorus, or both resulted in significantly (P<0.05) higher values for these parameters. An interaction effect was also observed for phosphorus digestibility, phosphorus retention efficiency and phosphorus load. Phosphorus digestibility and retention efficiency were significantly (P<0.05) higher, and phosphorus load was significantly (P<0.05) lower in fish fed the phytase supplemented diet compared with diets containing supplemental inorganic phosphorus. In conclusion, phytase increased phosphorus availability, therefore reducing the need to add inorganic phosphorus and reducing phosphorus waste from plant-meal-based diets for Atlantic salmon.  相似文献

The potential of bacteriophage therapy to control bacterial disease in farmed fish was tested using, as an example, furunculosis of Atlantic salmon, caused by Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida.

In vivo testing with Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) showed no adverse effects, with bacteriophage generally cleared within 96 h of administration by either intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection or oral in-feed.

Juvenile Atlantic salmon were administered a combination of bacteriophage O, R and B (1.9 × 108 pfu fish− 1) by i.p. injection, after they had been challenged with A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida 78027, also by i.p. injection. The fish that were injected with bacteriophage immediately after challenge died at a significantly slower rate then those that were either not treated with bacteriophage, or treated 24 h post-challenge. However, the end result (100% mortality) was not affected.

In further experiments the effects of oral (1.88 × 105 pfu g− 1 fish− 1 daily for 30 days), bath (1.04 × 105 ml− 1 daily for 30 days) and i.p. (6.25 × 107 pfu fish− 1) phage treatment to control furunculosis in experimentally infected Atlantic salmon were compared with antibiotherapy (treatment with 10 mg kg− 1 bw− 1 day− 1 oxolinic acid for 10 days), using an indirect cohabitation challenge. No protection was offered by any of the bacteriophage treatments, compared to the positive challenge group, although significant protection was offered by the oxolinic acid treatment. Analysis of samples taken from the trials demonstrated that bacteriophage were correctly administered to the fish and, on occasion, were isolated from fish that had succumbed to furunculosis. It was also shown that bacteriophage resistant A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida isolates could be recovered from mortalities in all the treatment groups.

The results suggest that, although there were no safety problems associated with the approach, furunculosis in Atlantic salmon is not readily controllable by application of bacteriophage.  相似文献

The effect of different dietary lipid sources on the athletic health of five groups of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was tested by measuring oxygen consumption rates, prolonged swimming performance, and recovery from exhaustive exercise in a closed circuit respirometer. These groups of fish differed from each other in the source of the supplemental lipid in their diet. The control diet contained 100% anchovy oil, while in the test diets, poultry fat, de-gummed canola oil, or flaxseed oil were used to replace up to 75% fish oil. The composition of the industry diet was a 1:1 blend of anchovy oil and poultry fat, also 50% of the fishmeal protein in this diet was replaced with protein from poultry by-product meal. Despite major differences in dietary lipid and protein composition that altered the lipid composition of the fish, all of our treatment groups performed equally well with respect to their oxygen consumption, swimming performance and recovery ability. Since these swim tests integrated many physiological functions, and collectively represented a sensitive measure of the athletic health of the fish, we concluded that our alternative lipid and protein-based diets represented viable possibilities for salmon farming.  相似文献

Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) parr (mean start weight 50 g) were reared in freshwater (FW) and exposed to three levels of oxygen saturation measured in effluent water; control group (93% O2, LO2), medium (111% O2, MO2) and high (123% O2, HO2). Further three groups were exposed to similar water oxygen levels in combination with elevated carbon dioxide levels (17–18 mg L– 1 CO2), named LO2–CO2, MO2–CO2 and HO2–CO2, respectively. The experiment was run in duplicate tanks for 42 days, and the fish were subsequently transferred to the same seawater (SW) regime for 45 days for an assessment of post-smolt growth. As a consequence of the CO2 addition, tank pH levels in the FW period were reduced from 6.7 to 5.9 for the hypercapnia groups compared to for the normcapnia groups. Water temperature in FW ranged between 6.4 and 9.0 °C. Citrate was added to the water to complex labile aluminium. In the CO2 groups observed ventilation frequencies were significantly increased compared to the control (p < 0.05). This difference declined towards the end of the FW period, suggesting acclimation to elevated CO2. The degree of oxygenation appeared to contribute to the acclimation as the lowest mean ventilation frequency on day 36 was found in the HO2–CO2 group and the highest in the LO2–CO2 group. Lower plasma chloride and sodium levels were observed in the CO2 groups relative to the respective oxygenation groups during the FW period, while plasma chloride and sodium levels were normalised to equal levels for all groups after 44 days in SW. No significant differences were found among treatments for blood concentrations of red blood cells, haemoglobin, potassium and glucose during the experiment.By termination of the FW period, the HO2 group had significantly higher body weight than all other groups (p < 0.05), with specific growth rate significantly higher than the CO2 groups (p < 0.05). Further, the condition factor was significantly lower in all the CO2 groups at the end of the FW period compared to the control and normcapnia groups (p < 0.05). Although variable among replicates, occurrence of nephrocalcinosis was 10 times higher in the hypercapnia groups than in the control and normcapnia groups. Mortality was negligible (< 2.0%) during the trial, and most of the mortality occurred following SW transfer.  相似文献

The water balance in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) overwintering in sea water (34 ) was investigated. With a decrease of temperature from 5.6 to 1.0°C the drinking rate decreased from 13.9 to 5.7 ml/kg/day, and the absolute amount of water absorbed decreased from 8.9 to 5.0 ml/kg/day. A decrease in temperature led, however, to an increase in the proportion of water absorbed in the intestines from 60 to 96%. Blood serum osmolarity increased from 320 to 440 mosm/1 with decreasing temperature and there was a reduction in tissue water content from 75 to 69% The disturbance of water balance at low temperature may be one of the factors responsible for mortality of salmon overwintering in sea water.  相似文献

Duplicate groups of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), kept in saltwater, were fed fish meal based cold-pelleted diets where graded levels of native or extruded non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) from soybeans replaced cellulose, at a total NSP level of 100 g kg− 1 for 28 days. The study also included a diet where defatted soybean meal (SBM) constituted the NSP at a level of 100 g kg− 1 and a reference diet without NSP supplementation. The SBM diet resulted in a significant reduction in faecal dry matter content, apparent digestibilities of starch and organic material, and growth, and an increased faecal output of several elements (K, Na, Zn), compared to all the other diets. Morphological changes were only seen in the intestine of the fish fed the SBM, i.e. the diets holding purified soy-NSP did not induce enteritis. When compared to the diet without NSP, cellulose addition increased faecal dry matter, while inclusion of native soy-NSP reduced it. Dry matter in faeces and apparent digestibility of crude protein decreased in a linear manner, while the digestibility of starch and faecal output of K and Na increased linearly when native soy-NSP replaced graded levels of cellulose from 0 to 100 g kg− 1 feed. When diets with 75 or 100 g kg− 1 of native NSP and extruded soy-NSP were compared, fish fed native soy-NSP had reduced faecal dry matter, higher digestibility of starch, and increased faecal output of Cu, Fe, and K. Dry matter in faeces and faecal output of Cu was lower for the highest inclusion level, while digestibility of starch and faecal output of Mn and K were higher. In conclusion, soy-NSP was inert compared to the fish meal reference, with respect to nutrient digestibilities and intestinal pathologies, but affected faecal mineral excretion in Atlantic salmon.  相似文献

Samples of wild and domesticated salmon in Norway were genotyped at 12 microsatellite loci to compare allelic variability and investigate the potential of microsatellite markers for identification of individuals. The following loci were amplified: Ssa20, Ssa62NVH, Ssa71NVH, Ssa90NVH, Ssa103NVH, Ssa105NVH, SsaF43; Ssa20.19; Ssa13.37; SsOSL85; Ssa197; Ssa28. All domesticated strain samples displayed reduced variability compared to wild salmon. On average 58% of the allelic richness observed within the four wild stocks were present in the samples taken from domesticated strains. No systematic differences in heterozygosity were observed between samples representing the two groups.

Pairwise genetic distances, as estimated by Fst values and Nei [1978] was 2–8 times higher among domesticated strains than among wild strains. Among the wild stocks, the highest genetic distances were observed between the river Neiden, located in northern Norway, and the other wild stocks located in the southwest of Norway.

Assignment tests indicated that the wild and domesticated salmon could be distinguished with high precision. Less than 4% of domesticated salmon were misassigned as wild salmon, and less than 3% of wild fish were misassigned as domesticated salmon. Fish from individual domesticated strains were identified with similarly high precision. Assignment to wild salmon stocks was less accurate, with the exception of the sample taken from the river Neiden, for which 93% of the individuals were correctly assigned.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the long‐term effects of ambient unionized ammonia nitrogen (NH3‐N) combined with different feeding regimes on Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L parr growth, welfare and smoltification. Previous studies on the parr stage of Atlantic salmon have mostly focused on acute exposure, or at low temperatures. Atlantic salmon parr were exposed for 105 days (at 12°C, pH 6.8) to four sublethal ammonia concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 35 μg L?1 NH3‐N (0.1–25 mg L?1 TAN) at two feeding levels: full feed strength (+20% overfeeding) and 1/3 of full feed strength. After 21 days, it was observed that 32 μg L?1 NH3‐N reduced growth rate of parr fed full ration, but this effect was not evident at the end of the exposure. Feed utilization was not affected by ammonia exposure at any sampling point. Increasing ammonia levels were associated with a higher prevalence and severity of gill damage at 22 days but not at the end of the exposure. The examination of welfare indicators revealed only a few pathologies, not related to ammonia exposure. In addition, higher ammonia concentrations did not appear to influence the development of hypo‐osmoregulatory ability during parr‐smolt transformation.  相似文献
