The types of malocclusions encountered in rodents and lagomorphs are classified. Diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis are reviewed. Some malocclusions are curable, whereas others can only be controlled. The need to perform a complete oral examination and to find a cause for the condition is stressed, as it will seriously affect the prognosis.  相似文献

The neuromuscular blocking effects of several antibacterial agents were examined in young pigs and lambs using a sciatic nerve-gastrocnemius muscle preparation. Intravenous administration of streptomycin, neomycin or tetracycline produced a decrease in indirectly stimulated contractions of the gastrocnemius muscle; whereas, chloramphenicol, sulphadiazine and penicillin-G had no discernible neuromuscular blocking effects. Present findings confirm the neuromuscular blocking activity of certain antibiotic agents, and indicate the potential for this adverse side effect in food-producing animal species.  相似文献

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been beneficial in treating people with nocardiosis. This report describes Nocardia spp. affecting a cat, with lesions confined to the skin. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report of HBOT, combined with amikacin, used to successfully treat feline cutaneous nocardiosis.  相似文献

本试验旨在探讨环磷酰胺(CY)对断奶仔猪免疫功能的影响。选取12头(28±3)d的杜×长×大断奶仔猪,随机分为对照组和CY组。第1天和第7天,给CY组仔猪注射50mg/kg BW的CY,对照组仔猪注射等量的生理盐水;第7天和第14天,前腔静脉采血待测;第14天,测定迟发型超敏反应。结果表明:(1)CY可降低第7天断奶仔猪的中性粒细胞数量(P0.1)及第14天白细胞、淋巴细胞、中性粒细胞(P0.05)和单核细胞数量(P0.1);(2)CY可降低第14天牛血清白蛋白抗体水平(P0.05);(3)CY可降低第7天干扰素-γ水平(P0.05)。本研究结果表明,CY可抑制断奶仔猪的免疫功能。  相似文献

本研究通过对长×大二元杂交哺乳母猪、皮×杜×长×大四元杂交哺乳仔猪、保育猪分别使用利生菌王、益牧宝、方便菌3种不同微生态制剂进行效果试验,结果表明:利生菌王能显著提高哺乳母猪、哺乳仔猪的生长性能,益牧宝对保育猪的生长性能的提高效益较好。  相似文献

This study was conducted to elucidate the hemolytic activity of a new toxic substance in bracken fern. A crude extract (CE) was prepared from the methanol extracts of bracken by the column chromatography. When the CE was injected subcutaneously in guinea pigs, the hemoglobinuria and hemolysis were observed within 6 hr, and 3 days later edema and hemorrhages in the urinary bladder were observed. The CE was then fractionated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and three (HF, BF and CF) of the fractions showed the toxic activities in guinea pigs. The HF caused the hemolysis, whereas both the BF and the CF caused the hemorrhagic cystitis without any hemolytic activities. The HF was further fractionated by the HPLC, resulting of the 3 fractions (HF-I, II and III). The hemolysis was caused only with the HF-II, and HF-II as well as HF did not cause the hemorrhagic cystitis. HPLC analysis revealed that both BF and CF contains braxin B and braxin C, respectively, and both HF and HF-II do not contain braxin A, B or C. These facts suggest that bracken fern contains a new toxic substance (hemolysin) which induces the acute hemolysis in guinea pigs.  相似文献

To investigate the effects of propofol and fentanyl on the postprandial duodenal motility the intraluminal impedance technique was used. Six pigs were instrumented with a central venous catheter, a percutaneous enterogastrostomy (PEG), and an impedance catheter, which was introduced via the PEG into the duodenum through endoscopy. Over the following 3 d, duodenal motility was measured for 8-hour periods. Measurements were taken on each subject under 3 different sets of conditions: in the conscious unrestrained pig, during propofol sedation, and during sedation with propofol-fentanyl. Both, after morning feeding and during gastric nutrition via the PEG, duodenal feeding patterns and duodenal phase II of the migrating motor cycle were shortened during propofol and propofol-fentanyl sedation. In contrast, the duration of phase I was prolonged by propofol and propofol-fentanyl. In conclusion, either propofol or propofolfentanyl sedation shortens duodenal feeding patterns, as well as phase II of the migrating motor cycle.  相似文献

Objective

To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of alfaxalone administered intramuscularly (IM) as a sedative agent in guinea pigs undergoing survey radiographs.

Study design

Prospective clinical trial.

Animals

A total of 30 client-owned guinea pigs.

Methods

Following baseline assessments, 5 mg kg?1 alfaxalone was administered IM. Heart rate, arterial haemoglobin oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, rectal body temperature, palpebral reflex, response to toe and ear pinch, righting reflex, posture, jaw tone and reaction to manipulation were assessed before and after sedation at 5-minute intervals. The time elapsed from onset of sedation to return of locomotion and coordinated limb movements, the quality of recovery and the occurrence of undesired effects were observed and recorded.

Results

The mean ± standard deviation onset of sedation was 2.7 ± 0.6 minutes. The physiological variables remained within normal ranges until completion of the procedure. Palpebral reflex and responsiveness to both ear and toe pinch were maintained during sedation. Neither hypoxaemia nor hypothermia was observed. The duration of sedation was 29.3 ± 3.2 minutes. Sedation and recovery were uneventful, and adverse effects were not observed.

Conclusions and clinical relevance

In conclusion, 5 mg kg?1 of IM alfaxalone represents a valuable sedation protocol for healthy guinea pigs undergoing minor noninvasive procedures. Further trials are required to investigate its cardiovascular effects, clinical usefulness in unhealthy patients and its combined use with analgesics for procedures associated with nociception.  相似文献

Urolithiasis represents a common, potentially life-threatening condition in pet guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). The purpose of this study is to determine the potential association between signalment, packed cell volume, total solids, selected biochemical parameters, and imaging evidence of urolithiasis in client-owned guinea pigs presented to two veterinary teaching hospitals. Medical record databases from two veterinary teaching hospitals were searched for cases of client-owned guinea pigs that had both a plasma biochemistry panel and an imaging study performed during one medical event. Other parameters including age, sex, weight, packed cell volume, and total solids were also recorded.Of the 81 guinea pigs that met the inclusion criteria, 32 animals (40%) had evidence of urolithiasis present on at least one of their imaging modalities. The odds for the imaging presence of urolithiasis increased with a decreasing packed cell volume, an increasing plasma creatinine concentration, and with a decreasing plasma phosphorus concentration.While these variables were statistically significant and associated with imaging presence of urolithiasis, they had low predictive value to discriminate between guinea pigs with and without imaging evidence of urolithiasis.Given the relatively high prevalence of urolithiasis in guinea pigs in this study, imaging is strongly recommended for every animal with suspected affliction.  相似文献

Female guinea pigs were tested to determine whether they could serve as a model of zearalenone (ZEN) toxicosis during early pregnancy, as observed in domestic swine. Only 1 of 4 female guinea pigs that were given 21 mg of ZEN/kg of body weight orally during the first 8 days after mating was pregnant when examined 22 days after mating. Guinea pigs that were given 7 or 14 mg of ZEN/kg had normal fetal development. Serum concentrations of progesterone were less than 12 ng/ml in all guinea pigs 8 and 15 days after mating. Serum concentrations of progesterone were greater than 100 ng/ml in pregnant guinea pigs on day 22, but remained less than 12 ng/ml in nonpregnant guinea pigs. Three of 5 guinea pigs treated with 20 mg of ZEN/kg and only 1 of 4 guinea pigs given 30 mg of ZEN/kg on days 1 to 3 after mating were pregnant 22 days after mating. Female guinea pigs treated with 20 or 30 mg of ZEN/kg on days 4 to 5 or 6 to 8 after mating and female guinea pigs treated with 60 or 90 mg of ZEN/kg on days 4 and 5 after mating had normal pregnancies. Serum concentrations of progesterone were less than 10 ng/ml in all guinea pigs on day 15 and remained low on day 22 only in nonpregnant guinea pigs.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
