The relationships of soil microbial biomass C (Cmic) or N (Nmic) with mean annual precipitation and temperature were studied along a climatic transect in the Mongolian steppe. Soil organic C (Corg) and total N (Nt), respiration rate, Cmic and Nmic at depths of 0–5 and 5–10 cm decreased with increasing aridity. The contents of Corg and Nt in the 0- to 5-cm soil layers decreased linearly with precipitation reduction along the transect. Cmic and Nmic changes with precipitation were not linear, with higher changes between 330 and 128 mm mean annual precipitation. Cmic/Corg and Nmic/Nt increased with increasing aridity. The metabolic quotient qCO2 of 0- to 5-cm soil layers was low between 330 and 273 mm precipitation. The relationship between the qCO2 of the 0- to 5-cm soil layers and the mean annual precipitation was well fitted with a quadratic function y =0.0006x2 –0.40x +86.0, where y is the qCO2 (µmol CO2-C mmol–1 Cmic) and x is the mean annual precipitation (mm). Corg, Nt, Cmic, Nmic and respiration rate decreased exponentially with increasing mean annual temperature in both the 0- to 5- and 5- to 10-cm soil layers, and change rate was lower when the mean annual temperature was higher than 2.6°C. The close relationships of the mean annual precipitation or temperature with soil Corg, Nt, Cmic, Nmic, Cmic/Corg and qCO2 indicate that each parameter can be calculated by determining the other parameters in this specific climatic range.  相似文献

Soil microorganisms are actively involved in many processes of the soil N cycle and are strong competitors with plants for soil N. Therefore, microbial dynamics are important factors in controlling forest productivity. Nevertheless, they are poorly studied especially in relation to forest age, which can produce strong effects on the microbial community by affecting the forest floor environment. In the present study, seasonal variations of soil microbial N (Nmic) were monitored in an old floodplain hardwood forest (270 years) and in a young hardwood plantation (19 years) in two soil horizons (0–15 and 15–30 cm). Although the differences according to time of sampling and soil horizon were statistically significant, Nmic was significantly higher in old than in young forest, especially for the deeper soil layer. However, the highest percentage of total N (Ntot) immobilised in microbial biomass was found in the surface soil layer of the young plantation. Soil organic C (Corg) explained 23% of the spatial–temporal variation of Nmic over all sampling periods in the old forest, whereas the linear combination of Ntot, total extractable soil N (Ntotex) and the C/N ratio explained 59% of variation in Nmic when considering only the growing season. In contrast, Corg and Ntotex explained 59% of variation in Nmic in the young stand when considering all sampling periods and 75% when the analysis was limited to growing season. Soil moisture did not show any significant correlation with Nmic in either site. The sensitivity of Nmic to variation in Corg and Ntot seems to be affected by forest age, being higher in young than in old forest. Finally our results indicate that during the growing season, when the Ntotex availability is low, the dynamics of Nmic and Ntotex are temporally interdependent, suggesting the existence of a reciprocal control whose mechanisms deserve to be elucidated.  相似文献

Although reduced tillage is an agricultural practice reported to decrease soil erosion and external inputs while enhancing soil fertility, it has still rarely been adopted by European organic farmers. The objective of this study was to assess the long-term interactive effects of tillage (conventional (CT) vs. reduced (RT)) and fertilization (slurry (S) vs. composted manure/slurry (MCS)) on earthworms and microbial communities in a clay soil under spelt in an organic 6-year crop rotation. Earthworm populations (species, density and biomass, cocoons) were investigated by handsorting the soil nine years after initial implementation of the treatments. Soil microbial carbon (Cmic) and nitrogen (Nmic) were measured by chloroform-fumigation extraction and a simplified phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis was used to separate for populations of bacteria, fungi and protozoa. Significantly increased total earthworm density in RT plots was mainly attributed to increased numbers of juveniles. Moreover, we found five times more cocoons with RT. Species richness was not affected by the treatments, but tillage treatments had differentially affected populations at the species-level. In addition, cluster analysis at the community level revealed two distinct groups of plots in relation to tillage treatments. In RT plots Cmic increased in the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers, while PLFA concentrations indicative of Gram-negative bacteria, fungi and protozoa only increased in the topsoil. Lower bacteria-to-fungi ratios in the upper soil layer of RT plots indicated a shift to fungal-based decomposition of organic matter whereas a higher Cmic-to-Corg ratio pointed towards enhanced substrate availability. Slurry application decreased microbial biomass and enhanced density of juvenile anecic earthworms but overall fertilization effect was weak and no interactions with tillage were found. In conclusion, tillage is a major driver in altering communities of earthworms and microorganisms in arable soils. The use of reduced tillage provides an approach for eco-intensification by enhancing inherent soil biota functions under organic arable farming.  相似文献

Soil aggregation is influenced by the tillage system used, which in turn affects the amount of C and N in the different aggregate fractions. This study assessed the impact of different tillage systems on soil aggregates by measuring the aggregate stability, the organic carbon (Corg) and the total nitrogen (Ntot) contents within different aggregate fractions, and their release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Soil samples were collected from the top 0 to 10 cm of a long-term tillage experiment at Fuchsenbigl (Marchfeld, Austria) where conventional tillage (CT), reduced tillage (RT), and minimum tillage (MT) treatments were applied to a Chernozem fine sandy loam. The stable aggregates (1000–2000 μm) were subject to dispersion by the soil aggregate stability (SAS or wet sieving) method after Kemper and Rosenau (1986), and the ultrasonic method of Mayer et al. (2002). Chemical analysis of the soil was obtained for the aggregate fractions 630–1000, 250–630 and 63–250 μm gathered from the ultrasonic method. Using the SAS method, CT and RT had the least amounts of stable aggregates (18.2% and 18.9%, respectively), whereas MT had twice as much stable aggregates (37.6%). Using the ultrasonic method, MT also had the highest amount of water stable aggregates in all three fractions (1.5%, 3.7%, and 35%, respectively), followed by RT (1%, 2.3%, 32.3%), and CT (0.8%, 1.7%, 29.1%). For comparison, a reference soil, EUROSOIL 7 (ES-7) was also analysed (40%, 6.7%, and 12.1%). The highest amounts of Corg and Ntot were measured under MT in all three fractions, with 8.9%, 3.8%, and 1.3% for Corg, and 0.4%, 0.3%, and 0.1% for Ntot. Apart from the fraction 630–1000 μm, the aggregates of RT and CT contained <50% of the Corg and Ntot values of MT. The C/N ratio was least favourable for CT (42.6) in the aggregate fraction 630–1000 μm. The DOC release from stable aggregates after 10 min of ultrasonic dispersion was highest from MT soil (86.7 mg l−1). The values for RT and CT were 21% and 25% below this value. The results demonstrate that tillage type influences both aggregate stability and aggregate chemical composition. This research confirms that CT interferes more with the natural soil properties than RT and MT. Furthermore, MT has the highest potential to sequester C and N in this agriculturally used soil.  相似文献

Copper-based fungicides have been applied in apple orchards for a long time, which has resulted in increasing soil Cu concentration. However, the microbial and enzyme properties of the orchard soils remain poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of long-term application of Cu-based fungicides on soil microbial (microbial biomass carbon (Cmic), C mineralization, and specific respiration rate) and enzyme (urease, acid phosphatase, and invertase activities) properties in apple orchards. Soil samples studied were collected from apple orchards 5, 15, 20, 30, and 45 years old, and one adjacent forest soil as for reference. The mean Cu concentrations of orchard soils significantly increased with increasing orchard ages ranging from 21.8 to 141 mg kg−1, and the CaCl2-extractable soil Cu concentrations varied from 0.00 to 4.26 mg kg−1. The soil mean Cmic values varied from 43.6 to 116 mg kg−1 in the orchard soils, and were lower than the value of the reference soil (144 mg kg−1). The ratio of soil Cmic to total organic C (Corg) increased from 8.10 to 18.3 mg Cmic g−1 Corg with decreasing orchard ages, and was 26.1 mg Cmic g−1 Corg for the reference soil. A significant correlation was observed between total- or CaCl2-extractable soil Cu and soil Cmic or Cmic/Corg, suggesting that the soil Cu was responsible for the significant reductions in Cmic and Cmic/Corg. The three enzyme activity assays also showed the similar phenomena, and declined with the increasing orchard ages. The mean soil C mineralization rates were elevated from 110 to 150 mg CO2-C kg−1 soil d−1 compared with the reference soil (80 mg CO2-C kg−1 soil d−1), and the mean specific respiration rate of the reference soil (0.63 mg CO2-C mg−1 biomass C d−1) was significantly smaller than the orchard soils from 1.19 to 3.55 mg CO2-C mg−1 biomass C d−1. The soil C mineralization rate and the specific respiration rate can be well explained by the CaCl2-extractable soil Cu. Thus, the long-term application of copper-based fungicides has shown adverse effects on soil microbial and enzyme properties.  相似文献

Management practices including various tillage systems influence quantity and composition of soil organic matter (SOM). Parameters for evaluating both the SOM quantity (organic C [Cox], total N [Nt]) and quality (microbial biomass C, hydrophobic and hydrophilic organic components) were determined in soil samples, taken from two soil depths (0–0.1 m and 0.1–0.3 m) in a field experiment in the period 2001–2007, with different tillage systems. The experiment, founded in 1995 in Prague-Ruzyně, includes conventional soil tillage (CT) plus some selected methods of conservation tillage: (a) no tillage (NT), (b) no tillage + mulch (NTM), and (c) minimum tillage with pre-crop residues incorporated (MTS). Cox and microbial biomass C contents increased significantly with conservation tillage as compared to CT in 0–0.1 m layer, non-significant increase was found in 0.1–0.3 m layer. Nt increased non-significantly in both layers. Along with the depth of sampling, the content of the characterized parameters decreased in all variants; but the decrease in the conventionally tilled variant was, for the most part, lower than in the conservation tillage. The functional hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups of soil organic matter were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and the hydrophobic/hydrophilic group intensities ratio was calculated as the parameter of soil hydrophobicity. A higher soil hydrophobicity existed in all three conservation tillage treatments compared to CT due to the significantly higher content of hydrophobic organic components. Cox correlated significantly with microbial biomass C, Nt, hydrophobic components, and soil hydrophobicity (R = 0.552–0.654; P < 0.05). Hydrophilic components did not correlate with other soil characteristics, with the exception of hydrophobic components. These data show that shifting from CT to the conservation tillage systems increased the content of SOM in top soil layer in relatively short time, improved the SOM quality and increased soil hydrophobicity in the condition of experiment.  相似文献

It is broadly accepted that reduced tillage increases soil organic carbon (Corg) and total nitrogen (N) concentrations in arable soils. However, the underlying processes of sequestration are not completely understood. Thus, our objectives were to investigate the impact of a minimum tillage (MT) system (to 5–8 cm depth) on aggregates, on particulate organic matter (POM), and on storage of Corg and N in two loamy Haplic Luvisols in contrast to conventional tillage (CT) (to 25 cm). Surface soils (0–5 cm) and subsoils (10–20 cm) of two experimental fields near Göttingen, Germany, were investigated. Each site (Garte-Süd and Hohes Feld) received both tillage treatments for 37 and 40 years, respectively. In the bulk soil of both sites Corg, N, microbial carbon (Cmic), and microbial N (Nmic) concentrations were elevated under MT in both depths. Likewise, water-stable macroaggregates (>0.25 mm) were on average 2.6 times more abundant under MT than under CT but differences in the subsoils were generally not significant. For surface soils under MT, all aggregate size classes <1 mm showed approx. 35% and 50% increased Corg concentrations at Garte-Süd and Hohes Feld, respectively. For greater macroaggregates (1–2, 2–10 mm), however, differences were inconsistent. Elevations of N concentrations were regular over all size classes reaching 61% and 52%, respectively. Density fractionation of the surface soils revealed that tillage system affected neither the yields of free POM nor occluded POM nor their Corg and N concentrations. Moreover, more Corg and N (15–238%) was associated within the mineral fractions investigated under MT in contrast to CT. Overall, similar to no-tillage, a long-term MT treatment of soil enhanced the stability of macroaggregates and thus was able to physically protect and to store more organic matter (OM) in the surface soil. The increased storage of Corg and N did not occur as POM, as reported for no-tillage, but as mineral-associated OM.  相似文献

In 11 rain‐fed arable soils of the Potohar plateau, Pakistan, the amounts of microbial‐biomass C (Cmic), biomass N (Nmic), and biomass P (Pmic) were analyzed in relation to the element‐specific total storage compartment, i.e., soil Corg, Nt, and Pt. The effects of climatic conditions and soil physico‐chemical properties on these relationships were highlighted with special respect to crop yield levels. Average contents of soil Corg, Nt, and Pt were 3.9, 0.32, and 0.61 mg (g soil)–1, respectively. Less than 1% of Pt was extractable with 0.5 M NaHCO3. Mean contents of Cmic, Nmic, and Pmic were 118.4, 12.0, and 3.9 µg (g soil)–1. Values of Cmic, Nmic, Pmic, soil Corg, and Nt were all highly significantly interrelated. The mean crop yield level was closely connected with all soil organic matter– and microbial biomass–related properties, but showed also some influence by the amount of precipitation from September to June. Also the fraction of NaHCO3‐extractable P was closely related to soil organic matter, soil microbial biomass, and crop yield level. This reveals the overwhelming importance of biological processes for P turnover in alkaline soils.  相似文献

In soil ecology, microbial parameters have been identified as sensitive indicators of changes in the soil environment. The Braunschweig FACE project provided the opportunity to study the effects of elevated CO2 (550 μmol mol−1) as compared to ambient CO2 (370 μmol mol−1) on total microbial biomass (Cmic), Cmic-to-Corg ratio and the fungal-to-bacterial respiratory ratio together with total Corg, Nt, C:N ratio and pH over a six-year period. Field management followed a typical crop rotation system of this region with either a crop-related full nitrogen supply (N100) or 50% reduced N supply (N50). The soil microbial parameters responded to the elevated CO2 treatment in varying intensities and time spans. The fungal-to-bacterial respiratory ratio was the most sensitive parameter in responding to an elevated CO2 treatment with highly significant differences to ambient CO2-treated control plots in the third year of CO2 fumigation. After six years bacterial respiratory activity had increased in ascending order to 34% in FACE-treated plots (N50 and N100) as compared to control plots. Soil microbial biomass (Cmic) responded more slowly to the FACE treatment with highly significant increases of >12% after the fourth year of CO2 fumigation. The Cmic-to-Corg ratio responded very late in the last two years of the CO2 treatment with a significant increase of >7.0% only in the N100 variant. Total Corg and Nt were slightly but significantly increased under FACE around 10.0% with ascending tendency over time starting with the second year of CO2 treatment. No significant FACE effects could be recorded for the C:N ratio or pH.These results suggest that under FACE treatment changes in the soil microbial community will occur. In our study the fungal-to-bacterial respiratory ratio was superior to total Cmic as microbial bioindicators in reflecting changes in the soil organic matter composition.  相似文献

Tree species differ in their effect on soil development and nutrient cycling. Conversion of beech coppice to pine plantations can alter soil physical and chemical properties, which in turn may have significant impacts on soil microbial biomass C and N (Cmic, Nmic). The major objective of this study was to evaluate soil quality changes associated with the forest conversion in humid NW Turkey. Results from this study showed that levels of soil organic carbon (Corg), total nitrogen (Nt), moisture, Cmic and Nmic under beech coppice were consistently higher but levels of pH, CaCO3 and EC were lower compared to pine plantation. Differences between the forest stands in Cmic and Nmic were mainly related to the size of the Corg stores in soil and to tree species. In addition, high level of CaCO3 is likely to reduce pools of soil organic C and possibly even microbial biomass C and N in pine forests. The average Cmic:Nmic ratios were higher in soils under beech coppice than pine plantation, while Cmic:Corg and Nmic:Nt percentages were similar in both forest types. These results revealed the differences in microbial community structure associated with different tree species and the complex interrelationships between microbial biomass, soil characteristics, litter quantity and quality. The aim of this study was to survey and evaluate the microbial respiration of main soil types (gleyic Cryosols, umbric Albeluvisols, albic Luvisols, luvic Chernozems, Kastanozems) across European Russia, from semiarid to polar climatic zones. Soil was sampled from 0–5 and 5–10 cm layers at natural (forest, grassland, fallow) and corresponding sites under agricultural land use. Soil microbial biomass carbon (Cmic) determined by the substrate-induced respiration method and basal respiration (BR) were measured under standardized laboratory conditions (22 °C, 60% WHC). The ratios of BR/Cmic and Cmic/Corg were also calculated. Cmic and BR were highest in polar (gleyic Cryosols) and temperate (albic Luvisols, luvic Chernozems) climatic zones, the lowest were in boreal (umbric Luvisols) and semiarid (Kastanozems). Cmic, BR and Cmic/Corg ratios were higher in 0–5 cm layers compared to the corresponding 5–10 cm and in natural sites versus in arable. Principal component analysis yielded a clear separation of the vegetation zones with respect to the several principal components (PC). PC 1 was composed of Cmic, BR, soil chemical (Corg, Ntot) and texture parameters. PC 2 was composed of climatic (MAT, MAP) and soil pH variables. Three-way ANOVA indicated that “soil type”, “ecosystem” and “layer” factors, and their interactions accounted for almost 98 and 99% of the total variance in Cmic and BR, respectively.  相似文献

This study was carried out to investigate the long‐term influence of lime application and tillage systems (no‐till, ridge‐till, and chisel plow) on the activities of phosphatases and arylsulfatase in soils at four research sites in Iowa, USA. The activities of the following enzymes were studied: acid and alkaline phosphatases, phosphodiesterase, and arylsulfatase at their optimal pH values. With the exception of acid phosphatase, which was significantly (P < 0.001) but negatively correlated with soil pH (r ranged from –0.65** to –0.98***), the activities of other enzymes were significantly (P < 0.001) and positively correlated with soil pH, with r values ranging from 0.65** to 0.99*** for alkaline phosphatase, from 0.79*** to 0.97*** for phosphodiesterase, and from 0.66*** to 0.97*** for arylsulfatase. The Δ activity/Δ pH values were calculated to determine the sensitivity of each enzyme to changes in soil pH. Acid phosphatase was the most sensitive and arylsulfatase the least sensitive to changes in soil pH. Activities of the enzymes were greater in the 0 – 5 cm depth samples than those in 0 – 15 cm samples under no‐till treatment. With the exception of acid phosphatase, enzyme activities were mostly significantly (P < 0.001) and positively correlated with microbial biomass C (Cmic), with r values ranging from 0.28 (not significant) to 0.83*** and with microbial biomass N (Nmic), with r values ranging from 0.31 (not significant) to 0.94***. Liming and tillage systems significantly affected the activities of some enzymes but not others, as was evident from the specific activity values (g of p‐nitrophenol released kg–1 Corg h–1).  相似文献

Interactions between microbial communities and organic matter were analyzed for soils from the project regions ’︁Ecosystem Research in the Agricultural Landscape/FAM, Munich’ in southern Germany and ’︁Ecosystem Research in the Bornhöved Lake district’ from northern Germany using ratios between microbial biomass content (Cmic), microbial metabolic quotient (qCO2) and organic carbon content (Corg). In the agricultural soils in southern Germany, the qCO2/Corg ratio differed significantly with respect to agricultural management in contrast to ecophysiological Cmic/Corg ratio. In addition, Cmic/Corg ratio decreased from 39 to 21 mg Cmic g—1 Corg and qCO2/Corg ratio increased from 72 to 180 mg CO2‐C g—1 Cmic h—1 (g Corg g—1 soil)—1 with increasing soil depth. For the upper soil horizons from the landscape in northern Germany the two quotients differed significantly with reference to land use showing highest microbial colonization under grassland and lowest under beech forest. In contrast, C use efficiency was lowest in arable field under maize monoculture and highest in a wet grassland having a high organic C content.  相似文献

Reduced tillage may affect N supply of plants by influencing soil microbial biomass and thereby N release. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in microbial biomass due to tillage in relation to N mineralization and to assess the contribution to the N supply of sugar beet. For this purpose, in a field trial near Göttingen in 1995 microbial biomass and net N mineralization were determined in an in situ incubation of ploughed and reduced tilled soil in plots which were not given application of mineral N fertilizer. In reduced tilled soil the increase in mineral N concentration in the upper 10 cm of soil was mainly attributed to an increase in microbial biomass. The organic matter was more easily decomposable, indicated by the increase in Cmic/Corg and Nmic/Nt ratios; this was further supported by the enhanced turnover of microbial biomass in reduced tillage plots. A regression function was used to relate seasonal fluctuations of microbial biomass, soil moisture and soil temperature to N mineralization rate. There was a good agreement between measured and calculated N mineralization rate. Reduced tillage affected N mineralization by affecting the quantity and quality of microbial biomass. In 0–30 cm soil depth 169 kg N/ha were mineralized, 30 kg more N than in ploughed soil. However, despite improved N availability, the N uptake of sugar beet was decreased in reduced tilled soil. Because the N concentration in plants did not differ, it was concluded that sugar beet growth in reduced tilled soil was impaired due to other factors than N supply.  相似文献

Urban soils (constructozems) were studied in Moscow and several cities (Dubna, Pushchino, and Serebryanye Prudy) of Moscow oblast. The soil sampling from the upper 10-cm-thick layer was performed in the industrial, residential, and recreational functional zones of these cities. The biological (the carbon of the microbial biomass carbon, Cmic and the microbial (basal) respiration, BR) and chemical (pHwater and the contents of Corg, heavy metals, and NPK) indices were determined in the samples. The ratios of BR to Cmic (the microbial respiration quotient, qCO2) and of Cmic to Corg were calculated. The Cmic varied from 120 to 738 μg C/g soil; the BR, from 0.39 to 1.94 μg CO2-C/g soil per hour; the Corg, from 2.52 to 5.67%; the qCO2, from 1.24 to 5.28 μg CO2-C/mg Cmic/g soil per h; and the Cmic/Corg, from 0.40 to 1.55%. Reliable positive correlations were found between the Cmic and BR, the Cmic and Cmic/Corg, and the Cmic and Corg values (r = 0.75, 0.95, and 0.61, respectively), as well as between the BR and Cmic/Corg values (r = 0.68). The correlation between the Cmic/Corg and qCO2 values was negative (r = −0.70). The values of Cmic, BR, Corg, and Cmic/Corg were found to correlate with the ammonium nitrogen content. No correlative relationships were revealed between the determined indices and the climatic characteristics. The principal component analysis described 86% of the variances for all the experimental data and clearly subdivided the locations of the studied soil objects. The ANOVA showed that the variances of Cmic, Corg, and BR are controlled by the site location factor by 66, 63, and 35%, respectively. The specificity of the functioning of the anthropogenic soils as compared with their natural analogues was clearly demonstrated. As shown in this study, measurable biological indices might be applied to characterize the ecological, environmental-regulating, and productive functions of soils, including urban soils.  相似文献

The relationships between arylsulfatase and microbial activity were investigated in regional and microenvironmental scales, at three study sites in Israel, that represent different climatic regions—Mediterranean (sub-humid), mildly arid and arid.Total arylsulfatase activity was divided into extracellular and intracellular (microbial biomass enzyme) activities according to the chloroform-fumigation method. The results show that with increasing aridity, Corg (soil organic carbon), Cmic (soil microbial biomass carbon), Nmic (soil microbial biomass nitrogen) and respiration rate decreased, while Cmic/Corg and metabolic quotient (qCO2) increased. Total, extracellular and microbial biomass arylsulfatase activities decreased with aridity. Expressed as percentage of total activity, the arylsulfatase activity of microbial biomass in the soil, at 0-2 cm and 5-10 cm depths, accounted for more than 50% of the total, in most measurements. This activity was significantly higher in the arid sites than that found in the Mediterranean one for the 0-2 cm soil. The results indicate the importance of the microflora as an enzyme source in soils, especially in arid climate conditions.Enzyme activity in the different study sites was found to be influenced by microenvironmental conditions. The Mediterranean site showed a much higher enzyme activity under shrubs than that under rock fragments and in bare soil. In the arid site rock fragments created a favorable microenvironment for microbial activity on soil surface, which resulted in a much higher microbial biomass and arylsulfatase activity than that in bare soil. The total, extracellular and intracellular arylsulfatase activities, were significantly correlated with Corg, Cmic, Nmic and respiration rate (p<0.05) at all study sites. The correlation coefficients between microbial biomass and arylsulfatase activity were usually higher than those between organic carbon and enzyme activity, especially in the arid sites. Close relationships between microbial biomass and arylsulfatase activities in all the studied sites supported the hypothesis that Corg content and enzyme activities should be related to each other via microbial biomass. Arylsulfatase activity was found to be a good indicator of microbial one. The regression equations between these factors can be incorporated into models of biogeochemical cycling for their easy method of analysis.  相似文献

Vermicompost (VC) produced from distillation waste of geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), farmyard manure (FYM) produced from animal excreta mixed with pine needle (Pinus sp.), and biofertilzer (Azotobacter) were utilized for this experiment. The plant growth attributes, biomass, and oil yield of geranium were significantly increased with integrated nutrient supply, and maximum increase was found in T8 treatments (N100P60 K60 + 5t VC). Soil organic carbon (Corg) significantly increased by 4.2% to 81.8% in T4 and T8 treatments, respectively, over the control. Data obtained on total nitrogen (Nt) and available N, phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) clearly showed that the integrated nutrient supply considerably improved the soil health and sustainability. The soil respiration and microbial biomass C (Cmic) and N (Nmic) were increased by the manures according to the application rate. The Cmic accounted for 1.8 to 2.7% of the soil Corg content and microbial N accounted for 3.9 to 5.8 % of Nt under different treatment combinations.  相似文献

Various parameters of the soil microbial community may be used in soil quality evaluation and environmental risk assessment. The objectives of this study were to assess the effects of different environmental factors on the characteristics of forest humus microbial communities, and to test which environmental factors most affect the gross microbial indices and physiological profiles of these communities. Samples were taken at 71 plots located in a heavily polluted area of the Krakowsko-Cze¸stochowska upland in southern Poland. The samples were analyzed for pH in KCl (pHKCl), organic C (Corg), total N (Nt) and S (St), and for total and soluble Zn, Pb and Cd concentrations. The considered microbial parameters included basal respiration (BAS), microbial biomass (Cmic), Cmic-to-Corg ratio, and community-level physiological profiles (CLPPs) studied using BIOLOG® Ecoplates. Multiple regression analysis was used to estimate the effects of humus properties on the microbial parameters. It indicated that St and Corg-to-Nt ratio were the most important factors positively affecting Cmic (β=0.15 and 0.11, respectively) and BAS (β=0.13 and 0.08, respectively). The Cmic-to-Corg ratio was related positively to St (β=0.12) but negatively to Nt (β=−0.08). The effects of pHKCl and heavy metals on the gross microbial indices were significant but less important. The most important effect on microbial activity on BIOLOG® plates and CLPPs was from pHKCl. The other significant variables included St, Corg-to-Nt and interactions of heavy metals with pHKCl. It was concluded that Cmic, Cmic-to-Corg and BAS might be good indicators of the general status of soil microbial communities, but their use in studying heavy metal effects may entail difficulties in separating the effects of other factors. The sensitivity of the BIOLOG® test to pHKCl suggests that it may be useful for studying the effects of acidification or liming on soil microbial communities. The significant effect of the interactions between heavy metals and other variables on physiological profiles indicated that high heavy metal content affects the metabolic functions of soil microbial populations.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate the response of soil microbial biomass and activity to practices in organic and conventional farming systems. The study was carried out at the Irrigation District of Piauí, Brazil. Five different plots planted with “acerola” orchard (Malpighia glaba) and established at the following management were evaluated: (1) under 12 months of soil conventional management (CNV); (2) under six months of soil organic management (ORG6); (3) under 12 months of soil organic management (ORG12); (4) under 18 months of soil organic management (ORG18); and (5) under 24 months of soil organic management (ORG24). Soil microbial biomass C (Cmic), basal respiration, organic carbon (Corg), Cmic-to-Corg ratio and metabolic quotient (qCO2) were evaluated in soil samples collected at 0–10 cm depth. The highest Corg and Cmic levels occurred in organic system plots ORG18 and ORG24 compared to the conventional system. Soil respiration and Cmic-to-Corg ratio were significantly enhanced by the organic system plots. The qCO2 was greater in conventional than in organic system. These results indicate that the organic practices rapidly improved soil microbial characteristics and slowly increase soil organic C.  相似文献
