A study was undertaken to determine the efficacy of the novel avermectin, doramectin, against experimental larval and adult infections of three species of nematode parasite important to cattle production in New Zealand. Eighteen worm-free dairy bull beef calves were randomly allocated on live weight to three similar treatment groups. Each calf was given 30,000 Ostertagia ostertagi, 20,000 Cooperia spp. and 10,000 Trichostrongylus axei infective larvae as a single dose. One group was treated with doramectin 6 days after infection while the remaining groups received saline or doramectin 27 days after infection. Given as a single subcutaneous injection behind the ear, doramectin at 200 microg/kg removed 99.9-100% of adult and larval stages of O. ostertagi, Cooperia spp. and T. axei when compared to infections established in untreated controls (p<0.001). No adverse reactions were observed following treatment in the doramectin-treated animals. No injection site lesions were found by palpation following treatment or by injection site examination at necropsy.  相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the therapeutic efficacy of 1% doramectin injected subcutaneously at 200 uglkg into cattle harbouring naturally acquired infections of inhibited Ostertagia ostertagi larvae. Sixteen yearling Friesian bulls, grazed without anthelmintic treatment throughout the autumn-winter, were selected on the basis of similar body weights and serum pepsinogen activities. After removal from pasture on day -23 they were weighed and randomly assigned to two treatment groups on the basis of this weight. On day 0, one group was given saline (1 ml/SO kg) while the second was treated with doramectin (200 𝛍g/kg). Both treatments were given by subcutaneous injection. All stock were slaughtered 14–1.5 days after treatment. Moderate to high levels of adult O. ostertagi and Trichostrongylus axei and early and late 4th larval stages of O. ostertagi were recovered from saline-treated calves at necropsy. Doramectin was highly effective in eliminating all stages of O. ostertagi (99.9%; p<0.0001) and T: axei (100%; p<0.0001). No evidence of lesions were detected at the injection sites at necropsy. These results confirm that doramectin is an extremely effective broad-spectrum avermectin anthelmintic with efficacy against inhibited as well as maturing larval and aduit forms of O. ostertagi.  相似文献

The persistent anthelmintic effect of ivermectin as a topical treatment at 500 microg/kg was evaluated against induced infections of Ostertagia ostertagi, Trichostrongylus axei and Dictyocaulus vivparus in calves. The results showed a highly significant (P<0.001) anthelmintic activity for at least 14 days against O. ostertagi and T.axei (>99 per cent efficacies) and for at least 28 days (98 per cent efficacy) against D. viviparus.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate efficacy of topically administered doramectin against eyeworms, lungworms, and gastrointestinal nematodes of cattle. ANIMALS: 400 cattle (20 cattle in each of 20 trials). PROCEDURE: Trials were conducted in North America; natural and experimentally induced infections were used. In each trial, cattle were allocated randomly to control (placebo [saline [0.9% NaCl] solution at 1 ml/10 kg of body weight] or untreated; n = 10) or doramectin-treated (500 microg/kg of body weight; 10) groups. Treatments were applied in a single passage along the midline of the back, from the withers to the tailhead. Cattle were euthanatized > or =14 days after treatment, and worm burdens were determined by use of standard techniques. RESULTS: Efficacy of doramectin was > or =95.3% against adults of Thelazia gulosa, T skrjabini, Dictyocaulus viviparus, Haemonchus contortus, H placei, Ostertagia lyrata, O ostertagi, Trichostrongylus axei, Bunostomum phlebotomum, Capillaria spp, Cooperia oncophora, C pectinata, C punctata, C spatulata, C surnabada, Nematodirus spathiger, Strongyloides papillosus, T colubriformis, Oesophagostomum radiatum, and Trichuris spp. Efficacy was 95.1% against fourth-stage larvae of D viviparus, H placei, O lyrata, O ostertagi, T axei, C oncophora, C punctata, C spatulata, C surnabada, N helvetianus, T colubriformis, O radiatum, and Trichuris spp. In addition, efficacy against inhibited fourth-stage larvae of O ostertagi and Ostertagia spp was > or =98.1%. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: A single topical application of doramectin pour-on was efficacious against a broad range of nematode species in cattle.  相似文献

Objective To assess the persistent activity of injectable formulations of abamectin and doramectin against gastrointestinal nematodes of cattle.
Design Controlled slaughter study assessing residual efficacy.
Procedure Nematode-free calves were treated with abamectin or doramectin (each at a dose of 200 μg/kg) and infections then induced with repeated doses of infective larvae of Trichostrongylus axei, Haemonchus placei, Ostertagia ostertagi and Cooperia species. The duration of challenge ranged from 14 to 28 days. The calves were slaughtered at either 38/39 or 45/46 days after the treatments and nematodes recovered from the gastro-intestinal tract.
Results Significant reductions in numbers of O ostertagi occurred for both abamectin and doramectin treatments (> 93%) relative to counts in untreated calves, when challenge was administered up to 21 days after treatment. For T axei and Cooperia spp significant reductions occurred when the challenge occurred for 14 days after treatment (99%). Although differences from untreated animals were not significant, the results for H placei suggested high efficacy (> 85%) for up to 21 days for doramectin and up to 28 days for abamectin.
Conclusion There was no significant difference between abamectin and doramectin for any parasite at any challenge point, indicating that there is equivalent persistent activity of doramectin and abamectin against important gastrointestinal nematodes of cattle.  相似文献

Anthelmintic trails, conducted with albendazole, fenbendazole and ivermectin for efficacy against gastrointestinal nematodes, principally inhibited early fourth larval stages of Ostertagia ostertagi in naturally infected cattle. Cattle wee slaughtered seven to 20 days after treatment. O ostertagi was the predominant abomasal nematode recovered with occasional small numbers of Haemonchus species and Trichostrongylus axei. Control calves uniformly had very large O ostertagi infections, primarily early fourth stage larvae. Viable surviving worms and variable numbers of dead and degenerate worms were recovered in abomasal contents and washings. These O ostertagi larvae and adults were characterised by adherent debris or proteinaceous material, degenerated cuticles and distortion of internal structures. This study demonstrated the necessity for proper timing of slaughter for anthelmintic trial evaluation to allow clearance of dead nematodes, specifically O ostertagi larvae which are sequestered in the abomasal glandular tissue. Nematode collection within seven to 12 days after treatment will include dead and degenerate larval nematodes. The peripheral coating of larvae was suggestive of the Splendore-Hoeppli effect which has been associated with immunological responsiveness. The antigenic stimulus for this material and the lymphocyte and eosinophil infiltration was suspected to be early fourth stage O ostertagi larvae within the mucosa but was not identified definitively.  相似文献

The persistent efficacy of doramectin and ivermectin injectable against moderate and high infection levels of Ostertagia ostertagi and Cooperia oncophora were evaluated in cattle. Calves were allocated to six groups of six animals. On Day 0 animals of Groups I1/I2 and D1/D2 were treated with 0.2mg/kg ivermectin and doramectin injectable, respectively. Animals of the C1, I1 and D1 groups received a daily (moderate) infection of 1000 L3 of O. ostertagi and 1000 L3 of C. oncophora, and animals of the C2, I2 and D2 groups received a daily (high) infection of 10,000 L3 of each species. The animals were infected for 21 days with both species, the infections with C. oncophora and O. ostertagi started from Days 8 and 15 post treatment, respectively. Animals were necropsied on Day 40. The calculation of the persistent activity of ivermectin and doramectin was based on the efficacy against the different developmental and adult stages of both parasites. The present study confirmed that infection levels may influence the duration of persistent efficacy of an anthelmintic. Doramectin had at the moderate infection level a persistent efficacy of at least 35 days against O. ostertagi and at least 28 days against C. oncophora; at the high infection dose persistent efficacy was somewhat shorter i.e. up to 33 days and approximately 28 days, respectively. The duration of persistent efficacy of ivermectin against O. ostertagi at the moderate infection level was between 14 and 25 days, at the high dose level up to 25 days. Persistent efficacy of ivermectin against C. oncophora could, at both infection doses, not be measured, with the present experimental design.  相似文献

Two formulations of avermectin B1a, C-076 and MK-933, were examined for anthelmintic activity in two trials, each using 20 calves with experimentally produced nematode infections. In one trial, C-076 was given orally, and in the other trial, MK-933 was given by injection at dosages of 50, 100, and 200 micrograms/kg of body weight. Treated calves were held for 7 to 8 days and then, together with nontreated controls, were euthanatized and were examined for nematodes in their gastrointestinal tracts and lungs. Efficacy of C-076 approached 100% for Dictyocaulus viviparus, Ostertagia ostertagi, Trichostrongylus axei, T colubriformis, and Oesophagostomum radiatum at 50 micrograms/kg. A dosage level of 100 micrograms/kg was required to achieve 97% efficacy against Cooperia punctata. Efficacy of MK-933 at 50 micrograms/kg was variable, but at 100 micrograms/kg, it approached 100% for D viviparus, O ostertagi, Haemonchus placei, T axei, and T longispicularis. Activity against C oncophora was less, reaching 80% efficacy at 200 micrograms/kg.  相似文献

A study was conducted to investigate the persistent nematocidal activity of two avermectins against experimentally-induced infections of Ascaris suum in swine. Seventy-two nematode-free cross-bred pigs of similar bodyweight were randomly allotted to nine treatment groups of eight pigs each. Eight of the groups were treated with injectable solutions containing 300 microg of doramectin/kg (IM) or 300 microg of ivermectin/kg (SC) either 0 (same day), 7, 14, or 21 days prior to an oral challenge of 50000 embryonated A. suum eggs. The ninth group (control) was challenged in parallel without any avermectin treatment. At 41 or 42 days after challenge, pigs were euthanatized and adult and larval stages of A. suum were collected from the gastrointestinal tract of each pig and counted. Both avermectins significantly (P < 0.0002) reduced nematode counts when given on the day of challenge (0 days prior), and the efficacy was 100% and 97.5% for doramectin and ivermectin, respectively. Doramectin given 7 days prior to challenge significantly (P < 0.0001) reduced nematode counts, and the efficacy was 98.4%. For all other avermectin-treatment groups, nematode counts were not significantly reduced compared to those in control pigs. These data indicated that anthelmintic activity of ivermectin against A. suum persisted for less than 7 days and the activity of doramectin persisted for more than 7, but less than 14 days.  相似文献

The anthelmintic efficacy of ivermectin (IVM) delivered from a sustained-release (SR) bolus was evaluated against natural infections with gastrointestinal tract nematodes in 12 crossbred beef heifers in spring. The 12 calves were randomly allotted to 2 groups of 6 calves each. Group-1 calves were treated with an SR bolus designed to deliver 8 mg of ivermectin/d. Group-2 calves were nontreated controls. Cattle groups were kept in separate concrete-floored pens (grass hay nutrition) and slaughter was performed at 35 days after treatment. Fecal egg counts for group-1 calves remained zero after treatment, except for detection of less than 1 egg/g of feces in 1 calf at the time of slaughter; counts in nontreated calves increased. Mean and range of Ostertagia ostertagi inhibited larvae in nontreated calves were 27,093 and 10,622 to 56,368, respectively. Efficacy of the IVM SR bolus was 100% against O ostertagi developing fourth-stage larvae (L4) and inhibited early L4, Haemonchus placei adults, Cooperia punctata and C spatulata adult males, Cooperia spp adult females, Cooperia spp L4, Trichostrongylus colubriformis adults, Bunostomum phlebotomum adults, and Oesophagostomum radiatum adults. Efficacy for O ostertagi and T axei adults was 99.9%. Numbers of nontreated calves infected with C pectinata adult males and Oes radiatum L4 were too low to evaluate efficacy. Calves treated with the IVM bolus gained 10.2 kg, whereas nontreated calves lost 1.8 kg. Abomasal lesions were clearly greater in nontreated calves on the basis of index comparisons of abomasal weight and total live weight and gross pathologic features.  相似文献

Twelve dairy calves, naturally infected with lungworms and gastrointestinal parasites, were selected for a controlled test with single doses of ivermectin, administered subcutaneously, at the dose rate of 200 micrograms/kg. Specific interest was on efficacy of ivermectin against lungworms (Dictyocaulus viviparus), with ancillary interest directed on abomasal parasites. Ivermectin was administered to 6 calves, and the vehicle only, to 6 calves. At necropsy, 7 days after treatment, lungworms were not recovered from any of the treated calves; nontreated calves, given the vehicle only, were infected with 1 to 46 lungworms each. Removal efficacy against adult Ostertagia ostertagi was 99%. Fourth-stage Ostertagia spp and Trichostrongylus spp and mature Trichostrongylus axei, present in low numbers, were all removed. The fecal egg count for gastrointestinal parasites indicated all eggs, except for a few Nematodirus eggs, were cleared from treated calves. One treated calf showed signs of irritation of the neck at injection site for a short time after treatment and 1 treated calf had a slight indurated area at injection site at necropsy.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to compare the anthelmintic efficacy of albendazole (ABZ), levamisole (LEV) and fenbendazole (FBZ) against inhibited early fourth stage larvae (EL4) of Ostertagia ostertagi during April in Louisiana. Forty cross-bred beef heifers (average weight 165 kg) were acquired during winter and grazed on pastures contaminated with O. ostertagi and other nematodes until early April. The cattle were weighed and randomly allotted into four groups of ten animals on 6 April and treatments were administered on 7 April. Experimental groupings were: Group 1, non-treated controls; Group 2, ABZ by oral drench at 10 mg kg-1; Group 3, LEV by topical, pour-on administration to back midline at 10 mg kg-1; Group 4, FBZ by oral drench at 10 mg kg-1. Equal numbers of cattle from each group were slaughtered daily between 10 and 13 days after treatment. Mean numbers of O. ostertagi developmental stages present in untreated controls were: adults, 13,714; developing L4 (DL4), 6487; inhibited EL4, 21,719. The mean percentage of inhibited EL4 was 51.8. Smaller numbers of Haemonchus placei, Trichostrongylus axei and Cooperia spp. were recovered uniformly in control cattle. Percentage reduction values for the three compounds against O. ostertagi adults, DL4 and EL4, respectively, were: ABZ, 99.0, 95.3, 84.9; LEV, 1.0, 21.8, 32.1; FBZ, 99.2, 97.2, 97.5. Differences between ABZ and LEV EL4 counts were not significant, but in all other cases worm counts in ABZ and FBZ-treated cattle were significantly lower (P less than or equal to 0.05) than in LEV-treated and control cattle. Both ABZ and FBZ were 98-100% effective against Haemonchus adults and L4, T. axei adults, and Cooperia spp. adults and L4. LEV was 100% effective against Haemonchus adults and L4, 85.6% against T. axei, and 94.6% and 89.59% effective against Cooperia spp. adults and L4, respectively.  相似文献

Summary The activity of albendazole against gastrointestinal helminths in naturally infected calves in the Netherlands was tested. The calves were in their fist grazing season and kept in two groups of ten. One of these groups was grazed alternately with sheep. Five out of each group were drenched with albendazole (7.5 mg/kg) on the day they were housed (November 1). Before and 2, 14, and 28 days after treatment individual faecal samples were taken from all calves and larval cultures were made. Ten calves, six treated and four untreated, were killed for post mortem studies 14 days after treatment The remaining calves were slaughtered 14 days later. The drug was highly effective in reducing the egg output, measured as the number of larvae cultured per gram of faeces. Compared with the untreated calves, the reduction was more than 99% two days after treatment, 100% at 14 days, and 99% after 28 days. It was shown that egg output 28 days after treatment came from worms which had developed from arrested larvae of Ostertagia ostertagi that had survived treatment. Post mortem results showed an efficacy of 100% against adult O. ostertagi, of almost 100% against Trichostrongylus axei, and 100% against adult and larval Cooperia oncophora. Twenty-eight days after treatment, the reduction of arrested early fourth stages of O. ostertagi was 85% in comparison with the untreated calves. Apparently less effect was found against Trichuris ovis at the given dose rate.  相似文献

Four groups of 18 beef calves each were used to evaluate effects of different treatments on parasite control and weight gains. The investigation extended from November 1986 (weaning) to October 1987. Group-1 calves were treated with ivermectin (200 micrograms/kg of body weight, SC) at approximately 6-week intervals for a total of 8 treatments; group-2 calves were given the same dosage of ivermectin by the same route of administration as group-1 calves in November, March, and July; group-3 calves were given fenbendazole paste (5 mg/kg, PO) at the same times as group-2 calves; and group-4 calves served as untreated controls with provision for ivermectin salvage treatment. All groups grazed on individual pairs of larval-contaminated, 1.6-ha pastures. Highest (P less than 0.05) initial worm counts in fall tracer calves were found in group 3 (Ostertagia ostertagi and Trichostrongylus axei adults) and group 4 (O ostertagi and Haemonchus adults). Fecal egg counts of group-1 calves were low throughout the experiment and pasture larval counts remained negligible after July. Egg counts and larval counts of other groups remained higher into summer. Worm counts, including O ostertagi inhibited early fourth-stage larvae (EL4), were highest (P less than 0.05) in groups-3 and -4 spring tracer calves; numbers of O ostertagi EL4 were similarly high in groups 2, 3, and 4; and T axei counts were highest (P less than 0.05) in groups-3 and -4 yearlings slaughtered in spring. Liveweights of group-1 calves were greater (P less than 0.05) than in other groups from March 2 to October, and by July 2, group-2 calves had a liveweight advantage over group-4 calves. Group-3 calves had the lowest rate of gain from March to July and mean liveweight of the group was less (P less than 0.05) than in all other groups from April to October. Only minimal worm numbers were recovered from groups-1 or -2 calves in October. Large numbers of O ostertagi and T axei were recovered from group-4 calves and O ostertagi from group-3 calves. A few calves in groups 3 and 4, but particularly in group 4, were affected by type-II disease (chronic to acute gastritis caused by maturation and emergence of previously inhibited larvae) from August to October. Final mean liveweights in descending order were 365 kg in group 1, 328 kg in group 2, 316 kg in group 4, and 281 kg in group 3.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to verify results of the lowest dose (5 mg kg-1) of febantel evaluated in an earlier trial in which there were no differences in efficacies of three dose rates (5, 7.5 and 10 mg kg-1 body weight) against natural gastrointestinal nematode infections of cattle. Fourteen Angus calves (mean weight and age of 155 kg and 525 days, respectively), from the same farm, with relatively heavy (mean of 448 eggs g-1 feces (epg] parasite burdens were selected. After an adjustment period of 8 days in drylot, beginning on 25 July, seven calves were treated with a 45.5% paste formulation of febantel. On Day 7 post-treatment, calves were necropsied for determination of residual worms. Rectal fecal samples were obtained prior to adjustment, at treatment, 5 days post-treatment and at necropsy. On both Day 5 post-treatment and at necropsy a mean of less than 1 epg was recovered from treated calves compared with 765 and 1566 epg, respectively, in control calves. Worms counts at necropsy revealed an efficacy of 98.5% against all adult abomasal worms (Haemonchus placei, 100%, P less than 0.02; Trichostrongylus axei, 99.4%, P less than 0.0001; Ostertagia ostertagi, 90.5%, P less than 0.0002). Treatment was 100% efficacious against adult small and large intestinal worms. However, numbers of Bunostomum phlebotomum, O. radiatum and Trichuris spp. recovered in the control calves were too low to enable a reliable test of drug efficacy. Efficacy of fenbendazole, at doses of 7.5 and 10.0 mg/kg of body weight, against inhibited early 4th-stage larvae of Ostertagia ostertagi and other nematodes of the abomasum and intestinal tract, was investigated in naturally infected yearling heifers in late May 1982. In Louisiana, this is near the end of the period (March to May) in which maximal numbers of inhibition-prone larvae are acquired. The mean numbers of O ostertagi in 10 untreated control cattle were: adults, 4,880; developing 4th-stage larvae, 12,546; and inhibited early 4th-stage larvae, 167,931. At the 7.5 mg/kg dose level (10% liquid suspension) in 10 cattle, percentage reduction of O ostertagi in comparison with controls was: adults, 95.7%; developing 4th stages, 91.1%; and inhibited 4th stage, 55.0%. Percentage reductions of other genera were as follows: abomasum--Trichostrongylus axei, 99.6%; Haemonchus sp, 95.1%; intestinal tract--Cooperia spp, 97.8%; Trichostrongylus colubriformis, 100.0%; and Oesophagostomum radiatum 4th stage and adults, 100.0%. At the 10.0 mg/kg dose (10% liquid suspension) in 11 cattle, the percentage reduction of O ostertagi in comparison with controls was: adults, 98.6%; developing 4th stages, 92.9%; and inhibited 4th stage, 80.0%. Percentage reductions of other genera were: abomasum--T axei, 99.9%; Haemonchus sp, 98.8%; intestinal tract--Cooperia spp, 99.3%; T colubriformis, 100.0%; and Oes radiatum 4th stage and adults, 100.0%. During the spring of 1985, 40 calves grazed pastures known to have high numbers of spring inhibition-prone, infective Ostertagia ostertagi larvae. Calves were removed from pasture and placed in outdoor pens with concrete floors from 10 days prior to treatment until necropsy 14 days after treatment. Ten calves were allocated to each of 4 treatment groups, and oxfendazole was administered to each group by intraruminal injection at dosages of 0, 2.25, 4.5, and 6.75 mg/kg of body weight. Efficacies greater than or equal to 94.6% were achieved at dosages of 4.5 and 6.75 mg/kg against adult Ostertagia spp, Trichostrongylus spp, Haemonchus placei, Cooperia punctata, Bunostomum phlebotomum, Oesophagostomum radiatum, and Dictyocaulus viviparus. Efficacy against inhibited larvae of O ostertagi was variable, with the highest efficacy (90.2%) attained at a dosage of 6.75 mg/kg.  相似文献

Levamisole (LEV) was tested in four experiments to compare efficacy values against Ostertagia ostertagi when larval maturation was occurring (September), following inhibition and also when populations were expected to be largely adult (winter). A primary objective was to determine the importance of developing fourth-stage larvae (DL4) and inhibited, early fourth-stage larvae (EL4) in replacing adult worms lost through treatment and the effect of this on reduced efficacy against adult worms. Young crossbred beef calves ranging in weight from 150 to 230 kg were used in the first (September 1981), second (September 1983) and third experiments (January 1987). Jersey calves of 110 kg average weight were used in the fourth experiment (December 1988). Calves were randomized to groups according to weight and group sizes ranged from three to five calves. All parasite infections were naturally acquired, but a mixture of nematode third-stage larvae (L3) (22,500 per calf), including 20% Ostertagia ostertagi, was inoculated into Jersey calves of Experiment 4 following a 2 week exposure to natural infection. All LEV treatments were by subcutaneous injection at dosages of 6 and 8 mg kg-1. Treatment with ivermectin was used only in Experiment 3 as an efficacy reference. All calves were killed at 8-10 days after treatment. The efficacy of LEV against all developmental stages of Ostertagia ostertagi was consistently low in all experiments and a dose-dependent response was not evident. Large numbers of all Ostertagia ostertagi developmental stages were present in non-treated calves in both September experiments. Percent reduction of adults, DL4 and EL4 at the 6 mg kg-1 and 8 mg kg-1 dosages, respectively, were adults, 51.7 and 23.6 (1981), 8.7 and 51.3 (1983); DL4 40.3 and 13.2 (1981), 37.9 and 33.1 (1983); EL4, 19.6 and 0 (1981), 59.6 and 42.9 (1983). Smaller numbers of Ostertagia ostertagi were present in winter experiments and adult worms greatly outnumbered larval stages. Percent reductions of adults, DL4 and EL4, respectively, were (1987) LEV 6 mg kg-1, 40.2, 0 and 0; ivermectin 200 micrograms kg-1, 98.7, 97.7 and 100.0; (1988) LEV 6 mg kg-1, 62.4, 100.0 and 100.0; LEV 8 mg kg-1, 49.1 65.0 and 74.1. Three groups of 17 beef calves were used to evaluate effects of strategic anthelmintic treatment on safe (group 1) and contaminated (group 2) pasture in comparison with minimal treatment at weaning and contaminated pasture (group 3). The investigation extended from weaning in November 1982 to the following August. Results of faecal egg counts, herbage larval counts, plasma pepsinogen and tracer calf worm counts in autumn and spring indicated minimal levels of infection on safe pastures provided in November and April (group 1). A decided weight gain advantage for group 1 was achieved from November to April, but the rate of gain was not consistent after April and transfer to the second safe pasture. Final average weights in late August were: group 1, 368 kg; group 2, 336 kg; group 3, 262 kg. All were significantly different (P less than 0.05). Worm counts from representative yearlings in September revealed low to moderate levels of Ostertagia ostertagi in group 1. In contrast group 2 cattle had large, almost exclusively O ostertagi infections; group 3 cattle had exceedingly high levels of Trichostrongylus axei infection and moderate to high levels of O ostertagi. Marginal evidence of type 2 ostertagiasis was observed in individual animals of group 2 and group 3.  相似文献

The anthelmintic efficacy of abamectin (avermectin B1) was evaluated against gastrointestinal nematodes, including Ostertagia ostertagi inhibited larvae and lungworm, in yearling crossbred beef heifers during late spring. The calves were grazed on contaminated pasture for 10 weeks and then held under conditions free of nematode infection for 3 weeks prior to allotment and treatment on 5 June. Thirteen calves were randomly assigned to two groups of six by restricted randomization on body weights; the extra lightest calf was assigned to the non-treated control group. Group 1 calves were treated with abamectin at 200 micrograms kg-1 body weight by s.c. injection and Group 2 calves were not treated; all were killed at 14 days after treatment. Ostertagia ostertagi was present in all controls; arithmetic mean numbers of adults, developing fourth stage larvae (L4) and inhibited EL4 were 7683, 605 and 36,102, respectively. Other nematode genera present in controls in sufficient numbers for the experiment were Haemonchus placei adults, Trichostrongylus axei adults, Cooperia spp. adults, Oesophagostomum radiatum adults, Bunostomum phlebotomum adults, Dictyocaulus viviparus adults and E5 (immature adults). Abamectin was highly effective (consistently greater than 99% efficacy and P less than 0.05) in removing all nematodes present in treated calves as represented in non-treated controls, including the primary target of Ostertagia ostertagi inhibited EL4. The lowest efficacy was 93.8%, against D. viviparus E5.  相似文献
