Understanding users’ spatial distribution in forest park is crucial for providing visitors with quality recreation experiences and for park planning and management. Utilizing users’ spatial distribution data, this study aims at investigating associations between trail use level and trail spatial attributes, through examining two large urban forest parks (Gongqing forest park and Paotaiwan forest park) in Shanghai, China. Users’ spatial distribution was measured utilizing GPS trackers with the interval of 10 seconds. This study conceptualizes trail spatial attributes as trail metric attributes and trail configurational attributes. Trail metric attributes include trail mean distance to gates, length, width and level of enclosure, which are calculated based on park map and on-site observation. We computed trail configurational attributes utilizing space syntax theory, which comprise measures of global integration, control, and connectivity. Trail connection with features/facilities, visual connection with water and shading are included as covariate variables. In total, we obtained 134 valid samples in Gongqing forest park and 210 valid samples in Paotaiwan forest park for analysis. Multivariate regression analyses indicate that when involving covariate variables, consistently in both parks, a greater trail usage is significantly related to trail shorter mean distance to park gate, trail width wider than 3 meters, higher global integration and higher control values. Collectively, these four trail spatial attributes explained 31.7 % (p < 0.001) and 27.3 % (p < 0.001) of the variances in trail use level in Gongqing forest park and Paotaiwan forest park. These findings provide direct implications to park designers and managers for providing visitors with different desirable social conditions, and ultimately improve users’ experiences and satisfactions.  相似文献

In modern society stress is a major problem, causing lack of mental and social well-being as well as potential vulnerability to problems at work. Previous studies have found natural environments to be relaxing. In this intervention study, performed in Northern Sweden, the hypothesis was that an outdoor forest environment would be more relaxing than an indoor handicraft environment. Forty-six participants with high stress levels (PSQ  0.4) (33 women, 13 men, average age 48 years) were randomly assigned to visit either the forest environment (n = 27) or the handicraft environment (n = 19). The participants visited their assigned environment twice a week during three months, either in autumn or spring. During each visit they spent two hours performing, simple and undemanding activities. Psychological health outcomes were measured by the questionnaires CIS, PSQ, SCQ, SMBQ, SF-36 before and after the three months interventions. Sleeping patterns were monitored by an Actiwatch and sleep diary. The participants’ mood before and after each visit were estimated by a questionnaire. The results show that the participants’ health had improved after the interventions in both the forest and handicraft environments. The sleep latency increased slightly among participants in the handicraft environment. For participants in both environments the levels of fatigue, stress and burnout were all lower. They felt less limitation due to physical problems and did not feel so tired. Also their mental health had improved. From start to end of a visit to either environments the participants’ mood was improved, and they felt more relaxed, alert, happy, harmonious, peaceful and clearheaded. Over time during the intervention, they also felt significantly more clearheaded. We conclude that the health of all participants improved, irrespective of the environment visited.  相似文献

With increasing attention on the health benefits of a forest environment, evidence-based research is required. This study aims to provide scientific evidence concerning the physiological and psychological effects of exposure to the forest environment on middle-aged hypertensive men. Twenty participants (58.0 ± 10.6 years) were instructed to sit on chairs and view the landscapes of forest and urban (as control) environments for 10 min. Heart rate variability (HRV) and heart rate were used to quantify physiological responses. The modified semantic differential method was used to determine psychological responses. Consequently, the high-frequency component of HRV, a marker of parasympathetic nervous activity that is enhanced in relaxing situations, was significantly higher and heart rate was significantly lower in participants viewing the forest area than in those viewing the urban area. The questionnaire results indicated that viewing the forest environment increased “comfortable,” “relaxed,” and “natural” feelings than viewing the urban environment. In conclusion, viewing forest landscape produces physiological and psychological relaxation effects on middle-aged hypertensive men.  相似文献

Few studies have investigated whether manipulating objective measures related to fascination and extent affect respondents’ ratings of restorative potential (RP) and estimations of fascination and extent. The following study addresses this need. We manipulated or measured variables in 27 color digital landscape model views. Tree height represented a measure of fascination. Three measures related to extent: The number of organized plant groups represented coherence. Shannon’s Information Entropy bit values represented plant species complexity. The visible view polygon area in each model represented scope. We included 65 respondents’ RP ratings for the digital model views in analyses, along with estimations of fascination (n = 48), extent (n = 43), coherence (n = 38), complexity (n = 44), and scope (n = 35). Collinearity diagnostics indicated dependency between respondents’ estimations of fascination, extent, and complexity, and between estimations of coherence and scope. A strong, inverse correlation occurred between respondents’ RP ratings and the view polygon area. Repeated measures ANOVA test results suggest that respondents’ RP ratings increased as mean designed tree height increased. RP ratings for model views depicting scattered and formally arranged plants were significantly higher than views of clustered plants. Moreover, the decrease in RP ratings between scattered and clustered scenes was greater when plants represented three bits of entropy instead of two. Chief among the implications stemming from this study is that increasingly taller trees and groundcover plants may have increasingly greater restorative potential.  相似文献

Urban woodlands provide aesthetic experiences and recreational opportunities for people. The characteristics of vegetation are closely linked to these benefits. However, previous research has primarily focused on the effects of trees on aesthetic preference, while less research has involved the understory. This paper explored the relationship between understory characteristics and aesthetic or recreational preference. Twenty one images were rated for preference by participants (n = 184) on a five-point scale. Except for the original picture, these images were created using the photomontage method that manipulated understory height, the flowers and the path of the original picture. Results indicated that: (1) concerning aesthetic preference, all vegetated images were preferred more than the paved image, but for recreational preference, the paved image was preferred over the vegetated images; (2) the height of understory vegetation had a significant influence on aesthetic and recreational preference; (3) flowers and path increased aesthetic and recreational preference significantly. These results suggest that, in management of woodland, (1) maintaining the understory vegetation in middle height (0.5–1.0 m) or in full-mixed heights (low + middle + tall) (2) increasing shade-tolerance flowers and constructing a winding path in woodland would be preferred by the public.  相似文献

Citizen science has been gaining popularity in ecological research and resource management in general and in urban forestry specifically. As municipalities and nonprofits engage volunteers in tree data collection, it is critical to understand data quality. We investigated observation error by comparing street tree data collected by experts to data collected by less experienced field crews in Lombard, IL; Grand Rapids, MI; Philadelphia, PA; and Malmö, Sweden. Participants occasionally missed trees (1.2%) or counted extra trees (1.0%). Participants were approximately 90% consistent with experts for site type, land use, dieback, and genus identification. Within correct genera, participants recorded species consistent with experts for 84.8% of trees. Mortality status was highly consistent (99.8% of live trees correctly reported as such), however, there were few standing dead trees overall to evaluate this issue. Crown transparency and wood condition had the poorest performance and participants expressed concerns with these variables; we conclude that these variables should be dropped from future citizen science projects. In measuring diameter at breast height (DBH), participants had challenges with multi-stemmed trees. For single-stem trees, DBH measured by participants matched expert values exactly for 20.2% of trees, within 0.254 cm for 54.4%, and within 2.54 cm for 93.3%. Participants’ DBH values were slightly larger than expert DBH on average (+0.33 cm), indicating systematic bias. Volunteer data collection may be a viable option for some urban forest management and research needs, particularly if genus-level identification and DBH at coarse precision are acceptable. To promote greater consistency among field crews, we suggest techniques to encourage consistent population counts, using simpler methods for multi-stemmed trees, providing more resources for species identification, and more photo examples for other variables. Citizen science urban forest inventory and monitoring projects should use data validation and quality assurance procedures to enhance and document data quality.  相似文献

We assessed the net carbon (C) sequestration dynamics of street tree plantings based on 10 years of measurements at two case study sites each with different tree species in Helsinki, Finland. We assessed C loss from tree soils and tree C accumulation, tested the applicability of pre-existing growth and biomass equations against observations, and estimated the time point for the beginning of net C sequestration for the studied street tree plantings. The tree woody biomass C accumulation in the first 10 years after planting was 18–32 kg per tree. At the same time the C loss from the growth media was at least 170 kg per growth media volume (25 m3) per tree. If this soil C loss was accounted for, the net C sequestration would begin, at best, approximately 30 years after planting. Biomass equations developed for traditional forests predicted more stem biomass and less leaf and branch biomass than measured for the species examined, but total aboveground biomass was generally well predicted.  相似文献

A tree diversity inventory was carried out in urban green spaces (UGSs) of Chennai metropolitan city, India. This inventory aims to study the diversity, density and richness of trees in UGSs of Chennai. A total of one hundred 10 m × 10 m (total 1 ha) plots were laid to reveal tree diversity and richness of UGSs. Trees with ≥10 cm girths at breast height (gbh) were inventoried. We recorded 45 species in 42 genera and 21 families. Caesalpiniaceae and Fabaceae each with 6 species dominated the study area followed by Arecaceae (3). Density and stand basal area of the present study were 500 stems ha?1 and 64.16 m2, respectively. Most of the inventoried trees were native (31 species) and deciduous (28 species). Fabaceae and Caesalpiniaceae dominated the present study area in terms of stand basal area and density. The Shannon diversity index and evenness of study area were 2.79 and 0.73, respectively. The most important species and families based on species important value index (IVI) and family important value index were Albizia saman, Polyalthia longifolia and Azadirachta indica; Fabaceae, Caesalpiniaceae and Annonaceae respectively. We find Chennai's urban forest is relatively superior to many urban forests of the world in terms of stand basal area and species richness. Results emphasize the importance of enhancement of urban green spaces in Chennai metropolitan city.  相似文献

Leaf area of urban vegetation is an important ecological characteristic, influencing urban climate through shading and transpiration cooling and air quality through air pollutant deposition. Accurate estimates of leaf area over large areas are fundamental to model such processes. The aim of this study was to explore if an aerial LiDAR dataset acquired to create a high resolution digital terrain model could be used to map effective leaf area index (Le) and to assess the Le variation in a high latitude urban area, here represented by the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. Le was estimated from LiDAR data using a Beer-Lambert law based approach and compared to ground-based measurements with hemispherical photography and the Plant Canopy Analyser LAI-2200. Even though the LiDAR dataset was not optimized for Le mapping, the comparison with hemispherical photography showed good agreement (r2 = 0.72, RMSE = 0.97) for urban parks and woodlands. Leaf area density of single trees, estimated from LiDAR and LAI-2200, did not show as good agreement (r2 = 0.53, RMSE = 0.49). Le in 10 m resolution covering most of Gothenburg municipality ranged from 0 to 14 (0.3% of the values >7) with an average Le of 3.5 in deciduous forests and 1.2 in urban built-up areas. When Le was averaged over larger scales there was a high correlation with canopy cover (r2 = 0.97 in 1 × 1 km2 scale) implying that at this scale Le is rather homogenous. However, when Le was averaged only over the vegetated parts, differences in Le became clear. Detailed study of Le in seven urban green areas with different amount and type of greenery showed a large variation in Le, ranging from average Le of 0.9 in a residential area to 4.1 in an urban woodland. The use of LiDAR data has the potential to considerably increase information of forest structure in the urban environment.  相似文献

The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is often used as a marker of surrounding greenness in epidemiological studies aiming to evaluate the health effects of green space in urban settings. However, it is not clear the relationship between built environment characteristics, including green space, and NDVI. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between built environment characteristics, based on land-use and land-cover maps, and NDVI as a marker of surrounding greenness in the city of Barcelona. We used data from an already existing cohort of pregnant women in Barcelona (N = 8402). NDVI was derived and averaged within buffers of 100 m and 300 m for each participant, and categories of the built environment (m2) were derived from land-use and land-cover maps of Barcelona. We conducted ANOVA models to calculate the contribution (R2) of each land-use (or land-cover) category. The variability in NDVI in Barcelona was mainly explained by urban green (R2 between 0.32 and 0.53) and natural green areas (R2 between 0.19 and 0.52), although for the latter less than 4% of the participants were exposed to this. Both land-use and land-cover maps explained NDVI at 300 m better (full models explaining 76% and 78%, respectively) than at 100 m buffers (full models explaining 55% and 54%, respectively). Results of the present study indicate that NDVI can be a useful greenness metric depending on the hypothesis and area of study. However, for certain sizes of study areas (buffers smaller than 100 m), NDVI might have a lower predictive value. Results of the present study should be replicated in studies from other cities with different urban characteristics and climate conditions.  相似文献

Hymenoscyphus fraxineus causes a destructive invasive tree disease known as ash dieback threatening the survival of common ash not only in the forests, but also in urban and landscape settings. Pruning is a potential management practice that could help maintain tree vitality and aesthetics in parks, gardens, alleys and recreation areas, as well as maintaining veteran trees having high heritage or cultural value, or trees with high genetic importance (e.g. located in clonal seed orchards). In this study we investigated the maximum distance proximal to the lesion margin at which H. fraxineus can be detected on individual branches infected by the fungus in order to provide recommendations for pruning. Pruning of branches was carried out on 38 trees in southern Sweden. Tissue samples including bark and wood were collected from the margin of the lesion and at 5 cm intervals proximal to the lesion. Molecular analysis revealed presence of H. fraxineus in 91.3% of the investigated lesions. The proportion of lesions at which H. fraxineus could be detected declined with increasing distance from the lesion margin, with a significant reduction in the number of positive samples at 10 cm proximal to the margin. At 30 cm from the lesion edge the pathogen was never detected. Our results suggest that routine pruning may help maintain the vitality of younger trees. Pruning branches at least 35 cm from visible, active lesions in the bark should exclude the fungus and therefore reduce the probability of stem infection by H. fraxineus, however this cultural control tactic may only be economically feasible for high value amenity trees.  相似文献

On the Cornell University campus a long-term study has measured the impacts of a soil remediation strategy on plant growth and soil quality using the Cornell Soil Health Test. The Scoop & Dump (S&D) process of soil remediation consists of physically fracturing compacted urban soils, incorporating large quantities (33% by volume) of compost with the use of a backhoe, and annually top dressing with mulch. This study was designed to investigate the impact of this remediation technique for the amelioration of compaction and degradation of soils in the urbanized environment. The study finds that over a 12-year period remediated soils exhibit improved (reduced) bulk density (R2 = 0.50) (P < .0001) (n = 30), increased active carbon (R2 = 0.61) (P < .0001) (n = 30) and increased potentially mineralizable nitrogen (R2 = 0.61) (P < .0001) (n = 30). When S&D soils were compared to unamended (Unam) soils, improvements were found in aggregate stability (S&D = 72.41%, Unam = 34.90%, P < .0001, n = 30), available water holding capacity (S&D = 0.22%, Unam = 0.15%, P < .0001, n = 30), total organic matter (S&D = 8.43%, Unam = 3.23%, P < .0001, n = 30), potentially mineralizable nitrogen (S&D = 27.53 mg/kg, Unam = 3.11 mg/kg, P = 0.0005, n = 30), active carbon (S&D = 1022.47 mg/kg, Unam = 361.60 mg/kg, P < .0001, n = 30), and reduction in bulk density (S&D = 0.89 g/cm3, Unam = 1.47 g/cm3, P < .0001, n = 30). Application of the S&D process provides an alternative to using specified soils and has potential for improving long term soil quality using locally sourced materials and simple methods.  相似文献

Cell suspension cultures were established from immature cotyledon derived calli from drought tolerant legume horsegram [Macrotyloma uniflorum (Lam.) Verdc.]. Embryogenic callus could be originated from cut slices of the immature cotyledons on MS solid medium [Murashige, T. Skoog, K., 1962. A revised medium for rapid growth and bioassays with tobacco tissue cultures. Physiol. Plant. 15, 473–497] augmented with 1.0 μM zeatin and 4.5 μM NAA. Numerous somatic embryoids (26.4%) appeared on MS liquid basal nutrient medium with 5.6 μM NAA and with absence of zeatin during 3 weeks culture. Sustained cell division resulted in the formation of cell aggregates, and then progressed to globular, heart and further if they differentiate properly to torpedo and cotyledonary stages within 5 weeks. Transfer of individual embryos on to a fresh MS basal medium with no plant growth regulators was able to achieve complete maturation. Only a relatively few number of embryos developed into root/shoot when transferred to 0.9 μM GA3, 15 g/l−1 sucrose and 2.4 g/l−1 gelrite containing medium. Substitution of sucrose associated with the use of l-glutamine gave, in the range of concentrations tested, the strongest enhancement of the embryo growth and development. About 5% of somatic embryos were converted into true-to-type fertile plants.  相似文献

Multiple shoots were produced from node explants of lime (Citrus aurantifolia (Christm.) Swing) on MS medium supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), 6-furfurylaminopurine (kinetin) and α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). The highest number of shoots, nine shoots per node, were produced on a medium containing 2 mg l−1 BAP (8.8 μM), 1 mg l−1 kinetin (4.6 μM) and 1 mg l−1 NAA (5.4 μM). Depending on the concentration of BAP and kinetin, NAA either inhibited, stimulated or did not affect shoot multiplication, which also depended on the cytokinin level. Maximum shoot length was obtained from treatments containing 0.5 mg l−1 BAP (2.2 μM) combined with 1 mg l−1 kinetin (4.6 μM) and 0.5 mg l−1 NAA (2.7 μM). The largest leaves of resultant shoots were produced on a medium containing 0.5 mg l−1 each of kinetin (2.3 μM) and NAA (2.7 μM). Transferring in vitro shoots to rooting media containing indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and NAA produced complete plantlets. The highest rooting percentage was obtained on a medium containing either 1 mg l−1 NAA (5.4 μM) alone or 0.5 mg l−1 NAA (2.7 μM) combined with 2 mg l−1 IBA (9.6 μM), whereas the highest number of roots were produced on a treatment containing both 2 mg l−1 NAA (10.8 μM) and 2 mg l−1 IBA (9.6 μM). Roots elongated most on treatments containing 0.5 mg l−1 of either NAA (2.7 μM) or IBA (2.4 μM). Shoot growth associated with the rooting phase was the highest in response to 2 mg l−1 IBA (9.6 μM) or 0.5 mg l−1 NAA (2.7 μM). Plantlets that survived acclimatization, 82%, exhibited normal growth in soil under greenhouse conditions.  相似文献

Somatic embryogenic cell suspension cultures of four ginger cultivars were established. Somatic embryogenic calli were induced from ginger shoot tips on MS agar medium supplemented with 1.0 mg l−1 2,4-D and 0.2 mg l−1 Kn, which contained only half concentration of NH4NO3. Rapid-growing and well-dispersed suspension cultures were established by subculturing this kind of callus in the same liquid MSN medium. The suspension cultures (about 1–2 mm in diameter) were placed on the MSN agar medium for callus proliferation. Thereafter embryogenic callus (1.5 cm2) was transferred to solid media (MS + 0.2 mg l−1 2,4-D + 5.0 mg l−1 BA + 3% sucrose + 0.7% agar). Somatic embryos produced shoots and roots, and shoots developed into complete plantlets on solid MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg l−1 BA and 0.1 mg l−1 NAA. The relationship between the DW of suspension cultures and pH changes in medium is also discussed. The suspension cultures still kept their vitalities after subculture for 8 months.  相似文献

Urban structural units (USUs) are work (or similar) units in urbanized areas. In this study, USUs based on urban land use and land cover were used to explain and compare urban ecological conditions within Beijing. This study focused on the spatial pattern of land use for different USUs in urban areas. The results showed that 453 USUs belong to 12 primary USUs and to 38 different secondary USUs. The percentage of built-up area was highest in those regions with hotels, and lowest in areas with cemeteries. The percentage of woodland area was highest in primary and middle schools, and the lowest in entertainment plazas. The percentage of grassland area was highest in farmland or orchards, and lowest in Siheyuan (courtyards). The percentage of green space is highest in lands dedicated to middle and primary schools, and lowest in areas with museums. There is no significant linear relationship between construction period and green space percentage in Colleges/Universities (R = 0.045, p = 0.806 > 0.05) and Parks (R = 0.13, p = 0.43 > 0.05). However, there was an inverted-U curve relationship with the relevant housing price in the residential area, a relationship that can be described by the equation: f = 17736.45 + 348.21x ? 4.15 x2, p = 0.0022 < 0.05. This relationship implied that the socio-economic factors like housing prices may be a factor in determining the green space pattern of urban ecosystems in Beijing.  相似文献

A number of experiments were conducted to identify suitable procedure for in vitro shoot multiplication of Persian walnut (Juglans regia L.). Three different nutrient media (DKW, MS and WPM) and three different gelling agents (Phytagel, Difco Bacto agar and a mixture of Phytagel and Difco Bacto agar) were studied in the first experiment. Driver and Kuniyuki walnut (DKW) medium solidified with 2.2 g l−1 Phytagel was found optimum. Performance of explants was better on DKW medium than on MS and WPM. The DKW and MS media were not significantly different from each other, but both of them were significantly better than WPM, which was a very poor medium for this species. Phytagel alone was significantly better than Difco Bacto agar or Phytagel combined with Difco Bacto agar. In another experiment different concentrations of BA were studied. Medium containing 1.0 mg l−1 BA and 0.01 mg l−1 IBA was the best, although medium containing 0.6 and 0.8 mg l−1 BA were also successful, and utilisation of 0.4 mg l−1 BA and 0.01 mg l−1 IBA was optimum for shoot elongation. Application of different kinds of auxins (IAA, IBA and NAA at 0.01 or 0.1 mg l−1) with 1.0 mg l−1 BA were also studied. Media containing IBA were significantly better than media containing IAA for shoot fresh weight, but neither of them was significantly different from media containing NAA. Application of 0.01 mg l−1 or 0.1 mg l−1 auxin, with 1.0 mg l−1 BA, was not significantly different for shoot multiplication of Persian walnut. The morphology of shoots on media containing 0.01 mg l−1 IBA was the best.  相似文献

Nineteen parental lines including five male sterile A-lines (AH002A, AH003A, AH209A, S5001A, J16A) and fourteen restorers (A1-GH, A3, S5, J6, J7N, J7J, J8, J9, J10, J11, J12, J13, J14, J17) were crossed using the North Carolina II statistical method. Studies of combining ability and heritability were conducted on selected parents along with their seventy F1 hybrids for main ornamental traits. Plant height, crown size and length of node had obvious additive genetic effects, high (>0.50) broad sense heritability and high narrow sense heritability (length of node was medium). Pedicel length showed approximately equivalent maternal and paternal additive genetic effects, high broad sense heritability and medium (0.30–0.50) narrow sense heritability. Number of whorls of ray florets across capitulum and number of branches were able to take advantage of heterosis. The relationship between general combining ability and specific combining ability in Zinnia elegans depended on materials and traits. Male sterile two-type line was pivotal in the hybridization breeding of Z. elegans. S5001A, AH002A and A1-GH, A3, J14 which performed high negative GCA effects in PH, PL, LN and type I in PH, PL, NW, LN were ideal female and male parents of potted flowering plants; AH209A, J16A and S5, J10, J17 which displayed positive GCA effects and almost type I in PH, PL, LN were ideal female and male parents of cut flowers, respectively. For potted flowering plants, AH002A × J17, AH209A × A1-GH and S5001A × J6 with high negative SCA effects in PH, PL and LN were the most promising combinations, AH002A × S5, AH003A × A3 and J16A × J6 were the subprime combinations; for cut flowers, AH209A × S5, AH209A × J17 and J16A × J17 with high positive SCA effects in PH, PL and LN were the primary combinations, AH209A × J9 and S5001A × J10 were the secondary combinations.  相似文献

This research was carried out to assess the effects of zeolite and perlite on growth and nutrient status of lettuce plants and the amount of waste elements. The trials were done in a PE covered tunnel during autumn and spring seasons. Plant material was Lactuca sativa var. capitata, and the cultivars Bombola and Brogan were used for autumn and spring seasons, respectively. Five different growing media based on perlite and clinoptilolite, a kind of zeolite, mixed at different ratios (1 + 0, 3 + 1, 1 + 1, 1 + 3, 0 + 1, v/v) were tested. It was concluded that the use of zeolite led to increased plant growth, higher N and K contents in plant tissues and to reduced K leaching.  相似文献

An efficient system has been developed for the in vitro plant regeneration of Lilium longiflorum Thunb. by culturing receptacle sections from flower buds. The sections were cultured on one-half MS medium plus 30 g l−1 sucrose, 8 g l−1 agar, 5.4 μM NAA or 4.9 μM IBA plus 2.2 μM BAP. A section size of 3–4 mm was found to be optimal. After 60 days an average of 41 shoots were formed per explant. More vigorous shoots were obtained by subculturing on hormone-free medium with 20 g l−1 sucrose. Rooting occurred on one-half MS medium with 1.1 μM NAA. Rooted plants were hardened-off in a greenhouse for two months, and normal flowering plants were produced.  相似文献
