Summary The Rp1 locus of maize is a complex rust resistance locus where multiple resistance genes are clustered. Rare recombination events between Rp1 genes or alleles can produce two or more detectable genes linked in coupling phase. Such compound genes can then be manipulated as a single gene in breeding programs. Several compound Rp1 genes, each carrying two or three tightly linked resistance genes, were constructed to test their utility in controlling common rust. While none of the lines carrying single Rp1 genes were resistant to all of the characterized North American P. sorghi biotypes, most of the two component and all of the three component Rp1 complexes were resistant. The potential for utilization of compound resistance genes in other crop species is discussed.  相似文献

A two season study was conducted to compare the onion cultivars TG1015Y and IPA-3 for resistance to thrips in South Texas. Narrow and broad sense heritabilities were estimated from populations developed from the cross, ‘IPA-3’ × ‘TG1015Y’. Parents, F1, F2, and the respective backcross populations were evaluated for thrips numbers at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, Weslaco, TX. ‘IPA-3’ had significantly fewer thrips than ‘TG1015Y’ in both seasons. Yield was significantly different only in the 1996–97 season. The heritability of thrips resistance in this study was very low. Depending on the methods of estimation h 2 was 5.3% and 4.0%, and H 2 was 4.1% and 8.0%. These results suggest that greater genetic gains for thrips resistance in onion can be achieved by selection on a family basis rather than using single plant selection. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of seedling reactions to cultures of races TLM and MBCT of Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici was studied in crosses of the resistant durum Reichenbachii with susceptible Marruecos 9623 and DZ04-118. The Chi-square test for goodness of fit was used to analyze segregating populations. Two independent recessive genes appeared to control resistance of Reichenbachii to both TLM and MBCT. Depending upon the cross, the two genes interacted cumulatively to condition immunity or higher levels of resistance than either parent conditioned singly. There was no evidence of maternal influence on the inheritance of resistance. Resistance genes in Reichenbachii were recessive; therefore, breeders should consider the use of relatively large F2 populations to effectively transfer these genes to cultivars with good agronomic characteristics.  相似文献

Diseases are major production constraints of pinto bean despite 75 years of breeding. The objectives were to (1) assess progress made and (2) discuss future breeding strategies. Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV), anthracnose, rust, white mold, common blight, and halo blight and growth habit, seed weight, and seed coat darkening were evaluated for 52 cultivars released between 1944 and 2001. Sixteen cultivars were resistant to BCMV, 12 to race 53 of rust, five to race 73 of anthracnose, two to halo blight, and none to common blight and white mold. Four were resistant to two and none to three or more diseases. Four had Type I, ten Type II, and others Type III growth habit. Bill Z, Grand Mesa, Montrose, Olathe, Othello, Ouray and Pindak darkened slower in storage. Pintoba had the largest and Cahone smallest seed. An integrated breeding strategy is suggested for simultaneous improvement of resistance to multiple-diseases.  相似文献

Blast disease causes serious economic yield losses in pearl millet. Identification and introgression of genomic regions associated with blast resistance can help to develop resistant cultivars to minimize yield losses incurred from blast outbreaks. In this study, 384 advanced pearl millet genotypes were screened against six blast pathotype-isolates (major pearl millet growing agro-ecologies of India), namely, Pg 45, Pg 118, Pg 138, Pg 186, Pg 204 and Pg 232. Analysis of variance showed significant (P < .001) variation among genotypes for blast reaction (susceptible to resistance). ICMR 08111 and ICMR 10888 genotypes showed resistance to all six blast pathotypes. A genome-wide association study performed with 264,241 single nucleotide polymorphic markers could successfully identify 15 SNPs (P = 1.26 × 10−7 to 9.22 × 10−12) underlying the genomic regions governing blast-resistance across five different chromosomes. The SNPs reported had a significant association in at least two of the three models tested (GLM, MLM and Farm CPU). These SNPs can be used in pearl millet-resistant breeding programmes after their function has been validated across different genetic backgrounds.  相似文献

Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a destructive disease of wheat worldwide. Sources of resistance to FHB are limited in wheat. Search for novel sources of effective resistance to this disease has been an urgent need in wheat breeding. Fusarium head blight resistance has been identified in relatives of wheat. Alien chromatin carrying FHB resistance genes has been incorporated into wheat through chromosome addition, substitution, and translocation. Relatives of wheat demonstrate a great potential to enhance resistance of wheat to FHB.  相似文献

Summary Parent-offspring regression was used to estimate heritability for three traits (-glucan content, groat percentage, and resistance to crown rust (Puccinia coronata Cda. f. sp. avenae Eriks.) in oat (Avena sativa L.). The populations used were derived from two crosses, Nova x Marion QC and Sylva x Marion QC. Marion QC was used as a parent because other research had shown that it is relatively high in -glucan, a trait for which heritability had not previously been estimated. Nova and Sylva are similar in adaptation to Marion QC, and Sylva may be a source of general resistance to crown rust. Random F5 plants were grown in a greenhouse, and their F6 and F7 progeny were grown in replicated field trials. Heritability estimates for the two grain quality traits were based on regression of F6 values on F5 values, F7 values on F6 values, and F7 values on F5 values. Heritability estimates for -glucan content were between 0.27 and 0.45. The highest estimate was the one based on the F6 and F7 generations of Sylva x Marion QC: 0.45, compared to estimates of 0.32 or less for earlier generations of the same cross, and to estimates of 0.35 or less for all generations of Nova x Marion QC. Heritability estimates for groat percentage were all between 0.23 and 0.32. The F6 and F7 generations were evaluated for resistance to crown rust resistance. The Sylva x Marion QC cross seemed to segregate for heritable resistance (h 2=0.31) but the Nova x Marion QC cross did not (h 2=0.07). Several lines from the Sylva x Marion QC cross had low symptoms in both the F6 and F7 generations. There were no strong genetic correlations among the traits.  相似文献

Genetic studies were conducted on an European winter wheat cultivar, Beaver, to determine the mode of inheritance of leaf rust resistance at seedling and adult plant growth stages using a recombinant doubled haploid population, Beaver/Soissons. Greenhouse studies indicated the involvement of genes Lr13 and Lr26 in governing leaf rust resistance at seedling growth stages, whereas, adult plant resistance (APR) in the field with pathotypes carrying virulence individually for Lr13 and Lr26 showed trigenic inheritance for the population. Marker regression analysis of adult plant field data indicated the involvement of six significant QTLs (chromosomes 1B, 3B, 3D, 4B, 4D and 5A) in year 2005, four QTLs (1B, 3B, 4B and 5A) in 2006, and six QTLs (1A, 1B, 3B, 4A, 4B and 5A) in 2007 for reducing leaf rust severity. QTLs on chromosomes 1B, 4B and 5A were considered the most important because of their detection across years, whereas QTLs on chromosomes 1A, 3B, 3D and 4A were either inconsistent or non-significant and unexplained. Based on an association of closely linked markers with phenotypic data, putative single gene stocks were identified for each consistent QTL and crossing was initiated to develop populations segregating for each to permit fine mapping of the identified regions.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance studies were conducted to determine the genetic basis of resistance in pepper against one Tospovirus isolate classified as tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). F1, backcrosses and F2 populations were developed using the resistant parent Capsicum chinense PI 159236 (CNPH 679) and the susceptible parent C. annuum Magda (CNPH 192). Segregation ratios strongly indicated that the resistant response (a localization, hypersensitive-like reaction) to TSWV fits a single-dominant gene model. Under our experimental conditions, the penetrance of this gene was very high. This gene (tentatively named Tsw) is highly effective only against TSWV isolates. The resistance governed by the Tsw gene was not effective against isolates belonging to tomato chlorotic spot virus (TCSV) and groundnut ring spot virus (GRSV), two other previously described Tospovirus species.  相似文献

Summary Resistance to lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) is derived either from cv. Gallega (g gene) or the wild accession PI251245 (mo gene). Previous studies indicated that these two genes were identical. Breeders in Europe produced numerous resistant cultivars utilisingg while in the USAmo was used. The resistance has been effective for over 20 years. However, recently there have been reports of LMV isolates causing unusually severe and sometimes necrotic symptoms on cultivars with these resistance genes. Investigations of these severe isolates have distinguished three new pathotypes in addition to the common pathotype (II) and identified a novel dominant gene for resistance. Themo/g genes confer resistance to pathotypes I and II but pathotype III possesses virulence for cultivars withg but not for those withmo. These two genes are therefore not identical but are probably either closely linked genes or alleles. Pathotype IV possesses virulence for all lettuce lines so far tested. Some isolates of this pathotype are seed transmitted in cultivars possessingmo org and have caused severe crop losses in southern France. The durability of the resistance conditioned by these two genes is discussed.  相似文献

Soybean mosaic virus is a severe constraint of soybean production in China. A total of country-wide 22 SMV strains (SC1-SC22) were identified. Of these, SC3 is a major strain widely distributed in Huanghuai and Yangtze River Valley region of China. Soybean cultivar ‘Qihuang-1’ contains RSC3Q locus conditioning the resistance to SC3 and is an important parental line extensively used to breed the soybean cultivars in China. The objective of this study was to elucidate the genetic pattern of SC3 resistance genes in cultivars developed from ‘Qihuang-1’ or its derivative lines. Hence, we have evaluated the SC3 resistance in 91 cultivars developed from ‘Qihuang-1’ or its derivative lines. The results showed that a total of 43 cultivars exhibited resistance to the SC3 strain. Among them, 37 cultivars were derived from ‘Qihuang-1’. Then, we have detected the RSC3Q loci in these cultivars using four SSR markers (Satt334, Sct_033, BARCSOYSSR_13_1114 and BARCSOYSSR_13_1136). It revealed that, among the 37 resistant cultivars derived from ‘Qihuang-1’, there are 20 cultivars containing RSC3Q loci. Moreover, the allelic relationship of resistance genes was analysed using the crosses from resistance × resistance between ‘Qihuang-1’ and its resistant derived cultivars. The results showed that the resistance genes of ‘Qihuang-1’ and its 20 cultivars were allelic. But it is not allelic with those of the other 17 cultivars, different from ‘Qihuang-1’, and also, RSC3Q does not condition the resistance. These results will be beneficial to exploring the transmission of resistance genes of ‘Qihuang-1’ and will be useful to the disease resistance breeding of soybean.  相似文献

How to ascertain the sliding surface and the factor of safety(FS) is the key problem of slope stability. The failure model of a slope is supposed at first and then the sliding surface and the factor of safety are computed approximately during analyzing the slope stability all over the world. However, the hypothesis cannot reflect the real state of slope sliding. In this paper, the critical failure surface with the lowest value of FS is computed and the better result is got by means of GA.  相似文献

Breeding for field resistance to Septoria tritici blotch (STB), caused by Mycosphaerella graminicola (anamorph: Septoria tritici), is the most suitable strategy for controlling this important disease of wheat. Although many Stb genes for resistance to single pathogen isolates have been identified in wheat, knowledge of their efficiency against natural fungal populations is lacking. In a quantitative-trait-locus (QTL) mapping approach in six environments and four locations, field resistance to STB was studied in a doubled-haploid population derived from a cross between the field-resistant cultivar Solitär and the susceptible cultivar Mazurka. After plant height as a disease escape trait was accounted for, five QTL with effects on STB response on chromosomes 5A, 6D and 7D explained 20 % of the genotypic variance; QTL × environment interactions were minor. Field resistance was conferred exclusively by alleles from Solitär, which was previously shown to carry the isolate-specific genes Stb6 and Stb11 as well as minor QTL detected with seven fungal isolates. Surprisingly, neither the Stb6 nor Stb11 isolate-specific genes nor minor QTL previously detected in Solitär were found to be involved in its field resistance. The study suggests that resistance breeding for STB should not rest solely on the deployment of Stb genes. Field tests are indispensable to show their efficacy and durability and to identify genes conferring partial field resistance to STB.  相似文献

Fusarium head blight is among the most extensively studied fungal diseases of wheat and other small grain cereals due to its impact on yield and quality, but particularly due to its potential to produce mycotoxins, which are harmful to humans and animals. Since our last comprehensive review on QTL mapping and marker-assisted selection for FHB resistance in wheat in 2009, numerous studies have been conducted to identify, validate or fine-map resistance QTL. The main aim of this review is to update and summarize findings on FHB resistance breeding of wheat published during the last decade. Furthermore, we compiled a user-friendly table listing FHB resistance QTL data providing a valuable resource for further FHB resistance research. The role of morphological and phenological traits on FHB resistance and possible consequences for resistance breeding are discussed. This review concentrates current knowledge on breeding for FHB resistance and suggests strategies to enhance resistance by deploying molecular breeding methods, including marker-assisted and genomic selection.  相似文献

To improve the coating stain resistant performance using the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 is a hot research topic in recent years. In the article, hydrophilic TiO2 and hydrophobic TiO2 are prepared by hydrothermal method. The samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscope(TEM). The results show that both the hydrophilic-TiO2 and hydrophobic-TiO2 are anatase, and the particle size of hydrophilic-TiO2 is 40 nm,while hydrophobic-TiO2 is only 7 nm. Moreover, the samples are employed for super-hydrophilic and super-hydrophobic coatings, respectively. The contact angle measurement is used to characterize the as-synthesized TiO2 coatings. The effect of the water contact angle on the contamination resistance is investigated. It is shown that the synthesized the hydrophilic TiO2 and hydrophobic TiO2 coatings both can remarkably improve the contamination resistance of the paint and the latter exhibited the better performance.  相似文献

One hundred and eighty six F1 plants from a ‘Regent’ × ‘RedGlobe’ cross were used to generate a partial linkage map with 139 microsatellite markers spanning all 19 chromosomes. Phenotypic scores for downy mildew, taken over two years, confirmed a major resistance QTL (Rpv3) against downy mildew in the interval VVIN16-cjvh to UDV108 on chromosome 18 of ‘Regent’. This locus explained up to 62 % of the phenotypic variance observed. Additionally a putative minor downy mildew resistance locus was observed on chromosome 1 in one season. A major resistance locus against powdery mildew (Ren3) was also identified on chromosome 15 of ‘Regent’ in the interval UDV116 to VChr15CenGen06. This study established the efficacy of and validated the ‘Regent’-derived downy and powdery mildew major resistance genes/QTL under South African conditions. Closely linked SSR markers for marker-assisted selection and gene pyramiding strategies were identified.  相似文献

Stripe rust is a devastating disease in common wheat (Triticum aestivum) worldwide. Growing cultivars with adult-plant resistance (APR) is an environmental friendly approach that provides long-term protection to wheat from this disease. Wheat cultivar Yaco“S” showed a high level of APR to stripe rust in the field from 2008 to 2014. The objective of this study was to detect the major quantitative trait loci (QTL) for APR to stripe rust in Yaco“S”. One hundred and eighty-four F2:3 lines were developed from a cross between Yaco“S” and susceptible cultivar Mingxian169. Illumina 90K and 660K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chips were implemented to bulked pools and their parents to identify SNPs associated with the major QTL. A high-density linkage map was constructed using simple sequence repeat (SSR) and SNP markers. Inclusive composite interval mapping detected a major effect QTL Qyryac.nwafu-2BS conferring stable resistance to stripe rust in all tested environments. Qyryac.nwafu-2BS were mapped to a 1.3 cm interval and explained 17.3–51.9% of the phenotypic variation. Compared with stripe rust resistance genes previously mapped to chromosome 2B, Qyryac.nwafu-2BS is likely a new APR gene to stripe rust. Combining SNP iSelect assay and kompetitive allele specific PCR technology, we found that the APR gene could be rapidly and accurately mapped and it is useful for improving stripe rust resistance in wheat breeding.  相似文献
