The effect of reduced tillage (RT) on nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions of soils from fields with root crops under a temperate climate was studied. Three silt loam fields under RT agriculture were compared with their respective conventional tillage (CT) field with comparable crop rotation and manure application. Undisturbed soil samples taken in September 2005 and February 2006 were incubated under laboratory conditions for 10 days. The N2O emission of soils taken in September 2005 varied from 50 to 1,095 μg N kg−1 dry soil. The N2O emissions of soils from the RT fields taken in September 2005 were statistically (P < 0.05) higher or comparable than the N2O emissions from their respective CT soil. The N2O emission of soils taken in February 2006 varied from 0 to 233 μg N kg−1 dry soil. The N2O emissions of soils from the RT fields taken in February 2006 tended to be higher than the N2O emissions from their respective CT soil. A positive and significant Pearson correlation of the N2O–N emissions with nitrate nitrogen (NO3 –N) content in the soil was found (P < 0.01). Leaving the straw on the field, a typical feature of RT, decreased NO3 –N content of the soil and reduced N2O emissions from RT soils.  相似文献

Abstract. Emissions of N2O were measured after application of NH4NO3 fertilizer and incorporation of winter wheat and rye green manures in two field experiments in southeast England. Incorporation of green manure alone resulted in temporary immobilization of soil N, small N2O emissions and also low availability of N for the following crop. Emissions were increased after application of inorganic fertilizer, and were further increased from integrated management treatments whereby green manure residues were incorporated after fertilizer application. The highest emission was from the incorporated winter wheat green manure plus fertilizer treatment, with 1.5 kg N2O-N ha−1 (0.6% of N applied) being emitted over the first 55 days after incorporation. This high emission was attributed to the supply of C in the residues providing the energy for denitrification in the presence of large amounts of mineral N and the creation of anaerobic microsites during microbial respiration.  相似文献

We studied in laboratory microcosms (intact soil cores) N2O and CO2 emissions from four different agricultural soil types (organic soil, clay, silt and loam) at low temperatures with or without freezing-thawing events. When the temperature of the frozen soil cores was increased stepwise from −8 °C the N2O emissions began to increase at −0.5 °C, and peaked at −0.1 °C in the organic, clay and silt soils, and at +1.6 °C in the loam soils. However, a stepwise decrease in soil temperature from +15 °C also induced an increase in the N2O emissions close to the 0 °C. These emissions peaked between −0.4 and +2.5 °C depending on the soil type and water content. However, the emission maxima were from 2 to 14.3% of those encountered in the experiments where frozen soils were thawed. Our results show that in addition to the well-documented thawing peak, soils also can have a maximum in their N2O emission near 0 °C when soil temperature decrease. These emissions, however, are less than those emitted from thawing soils. The correlations between the N2O and CO2 emissions were weak. Our results suggest that N2O is produced in soils down to a temperature of −6 °C.  相似文献

Animal excreta-nitrogen (N) deposited onto pastoral soils during grazing has been identified as an important source of nitrous oxide (N2O). Understanding the extent and seasonal variation of N2O emissions from animal urine is important for the development of best management practices for reducing N2O losses. The aim of this study was to determine N2O emissions from cow urine after application onto a pastoral soil in different seasons between 2003 and 2005. A closed soil chamber technique was used to measure the N2O emissions from a poorly drained silt loam soil which received either 0 (control) or 1,000 kg N ha−1 (as real cow urine) per application. Application of cow urine to soil increased N2O fluxes above those from the control site for up to 6 weeks, but the duration for which N2O levels were elevated depended on the season. Nitrous oxide emissions were higher during the winter and spring measurement periods when the soil water-filled pore space (WFPS) was mostly above field capacity, and the emissions were lower during the summer and autumn measurement periods when the soil WFPS was below field capacity. The N2O emission factor for urine ranged from 0.02 to 1.52% of N applied. This seasonal effect suggests that a reduction in urine return to soil (e.g., through use of standoff pads or animal housing) under wet conditions in New Zealand can potentially reduce N2O emissions from pastoral soils.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to assess the effectiveness of the nitrification inhibitors dicyandiamide (DCD) and nitrapyrin on reducing emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O) following application of NH4 + or NH4 +-forming fertilisers to grassland and spring barley. DCD was applied to grassland with N fertiliser applications in April and August in 1992 and 1993, inhibiting N2O emissions by varying amounts depending on the fertiliser form and the time of application. Over periods of up to 2 months following each application of DCD, emissions of N2O were reduced by 58–78% when applied with urea (U) and 41–65% when applied with ammonium sulphate (AS). Annual emissions (April to March) of N2O were reduced by up to 58% and 56% in 1992–1993 and 1993–1994, respectively. Applying DCD to ammonium nitrate (AN) fertilised grassland did not reduce emissions after the April 1993 fertilisation, but emissions following the August application were reduced. Nitrapyrin was only applied once, with the April fertiliser applications in 1992, reducing N2O emissions over the following 12 months by up to 40% when applied with U. When N fertiliser was applied in June without DCD, the DCD applied in April was still partly effective; N2O emissions were reduced 50%, 60% and 80% as effectively as the emissions following the April applications, for AS in 1993, U in 1992 and 1993, respectively. In 1992 the persistence of an inhibitory effect was greater for nitrapyrin than for DCD, increasing after the June fertiliser application as overall emissions from U increased. There was no apparent reduction in effectiveness following repeated applications of DCD over the 2 years. N2O emissions from spring barley, measured only in 1993, were lower than from grassland. DCD reduced emissions from applied U by 40% but there was no reduction with AN. The results demonstrate considerable scope for reducing emissions by applying nitrification inhibitors with NH4 + or NH4 +-forming fertilisers; this is especially so for crops such as intensively managed grass where there are several applications of fertiliser nitrogen per season, as the effect of inhibitors applied in April persists until after a second fertiliser application in June. On the main Japanese island of Honshu, bark or sawdust is often added to cattle excreta as part of the composting process. Dairy farmers sometimes need to dispose of manure that is excess to their requirements by spreading it on their grasslands. We assessed the effect of application of bark- or sawdust-containing manure at different rates on annual nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) emissions from a grassland soil. Nitrous oxide and CH4 fluxes from an orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) grassland that received this manure at 0, 50, 100, 200, or 300?Mg?ha?1?yr?1 were measured over a two-year period by using closed chambers. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to examine the effect of annual manure application rates and years on annual N2O and CH4 emissions. Annual N2O emissions ranged from 0.47 to 3.03?kg?N?ha?1?yr?1 and increased with increasing manure application rate. Nitrous oxide emissions during the 140-day period following manure application increased with increasing manure application rate, with the total nitrogen concentration in the manure, and with cumulative precipitation during the 140-day period. However, manure application rate did not affect the N2O emission factors of the manure. The overall average N2O emission factor was 0.068%. Annual CH4 emissions ranged from ?1.12 to 0.01?kg?C?ha?1?yr?1. The annual manure application rate did not affect annual CH4 emissions.  相似文献

Summary Changes in the organic matter and carbohydrate contents of a silt loam and of its particle-size fractions were examined after 10 years of applying solid cattle manure. Relative to the unmanured soils, bi-annual applications of 40 and 80 Mg ha-1 manure increased C, N, and total carbohydrate contents of the whole soil and of all the particle-size fractions. The manure application had no effect on the composition of the carbohydrates. However, the organic matter of the soil with the high application rate (80 Mg ha-1) was enriched in carbohydrates. The distribution of carbohydrates in the particlesize fractions and the ratio (Ga+Ma):(Ar+Xy) indicated that carbohydrates of both plant and microbial origin were increased upon application of manure to the soil.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to determine N2O concentrations in the soil profile and emissions as influenced by the application of N fertilizers and manure in a typical Japanese Andisol, which had been under a rotation of oat and carrot for the previous 3 years. The treatments include ammonium sulphate (AS), controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) and cattle manure (CM) in addition to a control; all the fertilizers were applied either at 150 kg N ha-1 or 300 kg N ha-1 at the time of sowing carrot. N2O emissions from the soil surface were measured with closed-chamber techniques, while N2O concentrations in the soil profile were measured using stainless steel sampling probes inserted into the soil at depths of 10, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 cm. Moreover, soil water potential, soil temperature and rainfall data were also recorded. The results indicated that N2O concentrations in the soil profile were always greater than in the atmosphere, ranging from 0.36 µl N2O-N l-1 to 5.3 µl N2O-N l-1. The relatively large accumulation of N2O in the lower profiles may be a significant source for N2O flux. Taking the changes of soil mineral N into consideration, most emissions of N2O were probably produced from nitrification. The accumulation of N2O in the soil profile and emissions to the atmosphere were differently influenced by the amendments of N fertilizers and manure, being consistently higher in CRF than in CM and AS treatments at the corresponding application rates, but no significant difference existed with respect to the various N sources.  相似文献

Degradation of estrogenic hormones in a silt loam soil   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Estrogenic hormones are endocrine-disrupting compounds, which disrupt the endocrine system function of animals and humans by mimicking and/or antagonizing endogenous hormones. With the application of sludge biosolid and animal manure as alternative fertilizers in agricultural lands, estrogens enter the soil and become an environmental concern. The degradation kinetics of 17beta-estradiol, an estrogenic hormone of major concern, in a silt loam soil were investigated in this study. It was found that 17beta-estradiol degraded rapidly in nonsterilized soil with a half-life of 0.17 day. The degradation rate constant was proportional to the percentage of nonsterilized soil, indicating that microorganisms are directly responsible for the rapid degradation of 17beta-estradiol in soil. The half-life of 17beta-estradiol in 20% nonsterilized soil was slightly shortened from 1.3 to 0.69 day with the increase of soil moisture from 10 to 20% and was greatly decreased from 4.9 to 0.92 day with the increase of temperature from 15 to 25 degrees C. The coexistence of 40 micromol kg (-1) sulfadimethoxine, a veterinary antibiotic, decreased the degradation rate constant of 17beta-estradiol from 0.750 +/- 0.038 to 0.492 +/- 0.016 day (-1). The degradation kinetics of another three estrogenic hormones, including 17alpha-estradiol, estrone, and estriol, were also investigated and compared. Estrone was identified as a degradation product of 17beta-estradiol and the most persistent hormone among the four investigated estrogens. Estriol was observed in the degradation of estrone and 17alpha-estradiol.  相似文献

Perennial rye grass (Lolium perenne) was grown in a greenhouse pot experiment on seven soils to answer the question whether the microbial colonisation of roots is related to existing differences in soil microbial indices. The soils were similar in texture, but differed considerably in soil organic matter, microbial biomass, and microbial community structure. Ergosterol and fungal glucosamine were significantly interrelated in the root material. This ergosterol was also significantly correlated with the average ergosterol content of bulk and rhizosphere soil. In addition, the sum of fungal C and bacterial C in the root material revealed a significant linear relationship with microbial biomass C in soil. The colonisation of roots with microorganisms increased apparently with an increase in soil microbial biomass. In the root material, microbial tissue consisted of 77% fungi and 23% bacteria. In soil, the fungal dominance was slightly, but significantly lower, with 70% fungi and 30% bacteria. Fungal glucosamine in the root material was significantly correlated with that in soil (r=0.65). This indicates a close relationship between the composition of dead microbial remains in soil and the living fraction in soil and root material for unknown reasons.  相似文献

In the context of their role in global warming, nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from agricultural soil under different management practices were studied in Hokkaido, northern Japan. To assess the impacts of reduced tillage, composted cattle manure-based fertilization and amendments with crop residues and green manure on N2O emissions from soil, a field experiment was conducted under a four-year crop rotation on a well-drained Andisol. The crop rotation included potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) or sweet corn (Zea mays L.), winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L. subsp. vulgaris) and soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). The cumulative N2O emissions for the four-year study period differed widely (0.33 to 4.90?kg?N?ha?1), depending on the treatments imposed, being the greatest for a combination of conventional moldboard plow tillage, composted cattle manure-based fertilization and increased plant residue input, and the lowest for a combination of conventional tillage, chemical fertilizer-based fertilization and normal plant residue input treatments. The cumulative N2O emissions under reduced tillage were all small, irrespective of fertilization and plant residue input treatments. Composted cattle manure-based fertilization (P?≤?0.01) and increased plant residue input (P?≤?0.01) significantly increased cumulative N2O emissions. Tillage showed a significant interaction with fertilization and plant residue input, indicating that N2O emissions were enhanced when composted cattle manure, crop residues and green manure were incorporated by conventional tillage. In the present study, the N2O emission factors for chemical fertilizer, composted cattle manure and crop residues were 0.26?±?0.44, 0.11?±?0.16 and ?0.03?±?0.52%, respectively, all much lower than the country-specific emission factor for Japan's well-drained soils (0.62%) and the default emission factor used in the IPCC guideline (1%).  相似文献

To identify the key soil parameters influencing N2O emission from the wheat-growing season, an outdoor pot experiment with a total of 18 fertilized Chinese soils planted with wheat was conducted in Nanjing, China during the 2000/2001 wheat-growing season. Average seasonal N2O-N emission for all 18 soils was 610 mg m-2, ranging from 193 to 1,204 mg m-2, approximately a 6.2-fold difference between the maximum and the minimum. Correlation analysis indicated that the seasonal N2O emission was negatively correlated with soil organic C (r2=0.5567, P<0.001), soil total N (r2=0.4684, P<0.01) and the C:N ratio (r2=0.4530, P<0.01), respectively. A positive dependence of N2O emission on the soil pH (r2=0.3525, P<0.01) was also observed. No clear relationships existed between N2O emission and soil texture, soil trace elements of Fe, Cu and Mg, and above-ground biomass of the wheat crop at harvest. A further investigation suggested that the seasonal N2O-N emission (E, mg m-2) can be quantitatively explained by E=1005-34.2SOC+4.1Sa (R2=0.7703, n=18, P=0.0000). SOC and Sa represent the soil organic C (g kg-1) and available S (mg kg-1), respectively.  相似文献

Purpose

Recently, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) have been identified in the environment. Concerns on the occurrence and fate of these compounds in soil and sediment have significantly increased. It is believed that these PPCPs sorb to soil and sediment; however, information on sorption of PPCPs is still limited. In this study, the sorption of estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), estriol (E3), 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2), triclosan, and caffeine to two loam soils and Ottawa sand was assessed.  相似文献

The forest ecosystem plays a pivotal role in contributing greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. In order to characterize the temporal pattern of nitrous oxide(N_2O) emissions and identify the key factors affecting N_2O emissions from a Masson pine forest in a hilly red-soil region in subtropical central China,we measured the N_2O emissions in Jinjing of Hunan Province using the static chambergas chromatographic method for 3 years(2010-2012) and analyzed the relationships between the N_2O fluxes and the environmental variables. Our results revealed that the N_2O fluxes over the 3 years varied from-36.0 to 296.7 μg N m~(-2) h~(-1),averaging 18.4±5.6 μg N m~(-2) h~(-1)(n=3).The average annual N_2O emissions were estimated to be 1.6±0.3 kg N ha~(-1) year~(-1).The N_2O fluxes exhibited clear intra-annual(seasonal) variations as they were higher in summers and lower in winters.Compared with other forest observations in the subtropics,N_2O emissions at our site were relatively high, possibly due to the high local dry/wet N deposition, and were mostly sensitive to variations in precipitation and soil ammonium N content. In this work,a multiple linear regression model was developed to determine the influence of environmental factors on N_2O emissions,in which a category predictor of "Season" was intentionally used to account for the seasonal variation of the N_2O fluxes.Such a model explained almost 40%of the total variation in daily N_2O emissions from the Masson pine forest soil studied(P0.001).  相似文献

In grazed pasture systems, a major source of N2O is nitrogen (N) returned to the soil in animal urine. We report in this paper the effectiveness of a nitrification inhibitor, dicyandiamide (DCD), applied in a fine particle suspension (FPS) to reduce N2O emissions from dairy cow urine patches in two different soils. The soils are Lismore stony silt loam (Udic Haplustept loamy skeletal) and Templeton fine sandy loam (Udic Haplustepts). The pasture on both soils was a mixture of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) and white clover (Trifolium repens). Total N2O emissions in the Lismore soil were 23.1–31.0 kg N2O-N ha−1 following the May (autumn) and August (late winter) urine applications, respectively, without DCD. These were reduced to 6.2–8.4 kg N2O-N ha−1 by the application of DCD FPS, equivalent to reductions of 65–73%. All three rates of DCD applied (7.5, 10 and 15 kg ha−1) were effective in reducing N2O emissions. In the Templeton soil, total N2O emissions were reduced from 37.4 kg N2O-N ha−1 without DCD to 14.6–16.3 kg N2O-N ha−1 when DCD was applied either immediately or 10 days after the urine application. These reductions are similar to those in an earlier study where DCD was applied as a solution. Therefore, treating grazed pasture soils with an FPS of DCD is an effective technology to mitigate N2O emissions from cow urine patch areas in grazed pasture soils.  相似文献

Summary Cellulase activity in a silt loam soil was assayed and characterised using a microcrystalline cellulose substrate (Avicel). Activity was maximal between pH 5.3 and pH 6.0. A 64% loss in activity was observed on air-drying the soil. However, the residual activity was stable to storage at 40°C for 7 days and was resistant to the action of added protease. The component endoglucanase and -D-glucosidase activities in field-moist and air-dried soil were also assayed. The proportion of the soil microbial population able to utilise cellulose was investigated and the persistence of two free (soluble) cellulase preparations of microbial origin was determined following their addition to soil. A rapid decline in the endoglucanase activity of a Streptomyces sp. cellulase preparation was observed while 30% of the original activity of a Trichoderma viride cellulase preparation could still be detected after 20 days. From the data obtained in this study it appears that the major portion of the -D-glucosidase activity is bound to and protected by the soil colloids. By contrast, the major portion of the exo- and endoglucanase activity appears to be free in the soil solution, attached to the outer surfaces of cellulolytic microorganisms or associated in enzyme substrate complexes. The low residual activity measured in air-dried soil may owe its stability to an association with soil colloids or with recalcitrant cellulosic material present in soil.

In this study emissions of N2O from arable soils are summarized using data from long‐term N2O monitoring experiments. The field experiments were conducted at six sites in Germany between 1992 and 1997. The annual N‐application rate ranged from 0 to 350 kg N ha—1. Mineral and organic N‐fertilizer applications were temporarily split adapted to the growth stage of each crop. N‐fertilizer input and N‐yield by the crops were used to calculate the In/Out‐balance. The closed chamber technique was applied to monitor the N2O fluxes from soil into the atmosphere. If possible, plants were included in the covers. Annual N2O emission values were based on flux rate measurements of an entire year. The annual N2O losses ranged from 0.53 to 16.78 kg N2O‐N ha—1 with higher N2O emissions from organically fertilized plots as compared to minerally fertilized plots. Approximately 50% of the total annual emissions occurred during winter. No significant relationship between annual N2O emissions and the respective N‐fertilization rate was found. This was attributed to site‐ and crop‐specific effects on N2O emission. The calculation of the N2O emission per unit N‐yield from winter cereal plots indicates that the site effect on N2O emission is more important than the effect of N‐fertilization. From unfertilized soils at the sites Braunschweig and Timmerlah a N‐yield of 60.0 kg N ha—1 a—1 and N2O emissions of 2 kg N ha—1 a—1 were measured. This high background emission was assigned to the amount and turnover of soil organic matter. For a crop rotation at the sites Braunschweig and Timmerlah the N In/Out‐balance over a period of four years was identified as a suitable predictor of N2O emissions. This parameter characterizes the efficiency of N‐fertilization for crop production and allows for N‐mineralization from the soil.  相似文献

A long-term field experiment was established to determine the influence of mineral fertilizer (NPK) or organic manure (composed of wheat straw, oil cake and cottonseed cake) on soil fertility. A tract of calcareous fluvo-aquic soil (aquic inceptisol) in the Fengqiu State Key Experimental Station for Ecological Agriculture (Fengqiu county, Henan province, China) was fertilized beginning in September 1989 and N2O emissions were examined during the maize and wheat growth seasons of 2002-2003. The study involved seven treatments: organic manure (OM), half-organic manure plus half-fertilizer N (1/2 OMN), fertilizer NPK (NPK), fertilizer NP (NP), fertilizer NK (NK), fertilizer PK (PK) and control (CK). Manured soils had higher organic C and N contents, but lower pH and bulk densities than soils receiving the various mineralized fertilizers especially those lacking P, indicating that long-term application of manures could efficiently prevent the leaching of applied N from and increase N content in the plowed layer. The application of manures and fertilizers at a rate of 300 kg N ha−1 year−1 significantly increased N2O emissions from 150 g N2O-N ha−1 year−1 in the CK treatment soil to 856 g N2O-N ha−1 year−1 in the OM treatment soil; however, there was no significant difference between the effect of fertilizer and manure on N2O emission. More N2O was released during the 102-day maize growth season than during the 236-day wheat growth season in the N-fertilized soils but not in N-unfertilized soils. N2O emission was significantly affected by soil moisture during the maize growth season and by soil temperature during the wheat growth season. In sum, this study showed that manure added to a soil tested did not result in greater N2O emission than treatment with a N-containing fertilizer, but did confer greater benefits for soil fertility and the environment.  相似文献
