The biological activity of 6beta-hydroxygedunin isolated from Azadirachta indica A. Juss. was assessed using the gram pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner), and Asian armyworm, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), alone and in combination with other limonoids, gedunin, salannin, nimbinene, and azadirachtin. The compound exhibited growth inhibitory activity in artificial diet bioassays, with 24.2 and 21.5 ppm, respectively, inhibiting growth by 50%. This efficacy was higher in comparison to gedunin (EC(50) = 50.8 and 40.4 ppm), salannin (EC(50) = 74.5 and 72.0 ppm), and nimbinene (EC(50) = 391.4 and 404.5 ppm). Azadirachtin, however, remained the most active neem allelochemical against both insect species. Nutritional assays clearly demonstrated that, though relative consumption and growth rates of fourth instar larvae were reduced, gedunin-type compounds induced physiological toxicity, evident by reduced efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI) in feeding experiments. Salannin and nimbinene, on the contrary, induced concentration-dependent feeding deterrence only. In feeding experiments, combinations of the compounds revealed that when azadirachtin was present in a mixture, EC(50) values did not deviate from the individual efficacy of azadirachtin (0.26 and 0.21 ppm, respectively) against H. armigera and S. litura larvae. However, a combination without azadirachtin did show a potentiation effect with potent EC(50) values among structurally different molecules, i.e., when salannin or nimbinene was combined with 6beta-hydroxygedunin or gedunin rather than structurally similar salannin + nimbinene or 6beta-hydroxygedunin + gedunin. Obviously, azadirachtin being the most active compound in neem is not synergized or influenced by any other limonoid, but other non-azadirachtin limonoids were more potent in specific combinations vis-à-vis the structural chemistry of the compound. It is obvious from the present study that potentiation among non-azadirachtin limonoids having explicitly two different modes of action, such as feeding deterrence and physiological toxicity, may be playing a significant role in the potentiation effect.  相似文献

One new iridoid glycoside and five known flavonol glycosides have been isolated from the leaves of Morinda citrifolia. The new iridoid exists as an epimeric mixture in solution. Complete assignments of the proton and carbon chemical shifts for the individual epimers were accomplished on the basis of high-resolution 1D and 2D NMR data. Their antioxidative activities were measured. All of these compounds showed DPPH free radical scavenging activity at the concentration of 30 microM.  相似文献

Eighteen esters derived from 1-naphthylacetic acid (NAA) and from hexyl isomer alcohols were synthesized and sprayed on grapevine suckers at 1, 2, 4, and 8% w/w concentrations to test their sucker control efficiency 2, 10, and 30 days and 1 year after their application. All compounds gave a prompt control of suckers. After 1 year, sucker growth was inhibited by the derivatives from primary and secondary alcohols, whereas the number of suckers was reduced only by application of naphthyl acetates of tertiary alcohols.  相似文献

Monoterpenoids (terpenes and biogenically related phenols) commonly found in plant essential oils were tested for acute toxicity via topical application to tobacco cutworms (Spodoptera litura Fab.). The most toxic among 10 such compounds was thymol (LD(50) = 25.4 microg/larva) from garden thyme, Thymus vulgaris. The compounds were then tested for sublethal effects, specifically inhibition of larval growth after topical application of low doses. Among 6 compounds tested, an LD(10) dose reduced growth by 20% on average 3 days after administration. Feeding deterrence was determined using a cabbage leaf disk choice test. The most deterrent compound was thymol, with a DC(50) of 85.6 microg/cm(2) leaf disk area. Because minor constituents in complex essential oils have been suggested to act as synergists, binary mixtures of the compounds were tested for synergy vis à vis acute toxicity and feeding deterrence. trans-Anethole acted synergistically with thymol, citronellal, and alpha-terpineol, in terms of both acute toxicity and feeding deterrence. On the basis of these findings, several complex mixtures were developed and tested as leads for effective control agents. Candidate mixtures demonstrated good synergistic effects. The observed LD(50) of mixture 3 was 40.6 microg/larvae compared to an expected value of 74.6 microg/larvae. The result of this research is a proprietary product suitable for commercial production.  相似文献

The biological activity of the limonoids prieurianin and epoxyprieurianin isolated from Entandrophragma candolei (Harms) (Meliaceae) and their respective acetates was assessed using the gram pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The compounds exhibited strong antifeedant activity in a diet choice bioassay with epoxyprieurianin acetate being most effective with 48.3 ppm deterring feeding by 50% (DI50) and prieurianin the least effective (DI50 = 91.4 ppm). The effect on growth of larvae was concomitant with the reduced feeding by neonate and third instar larvae. In nutritional assays, all the compounds reduced growth and consumption when fed to larvae without any effect on efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI), suggesting antifeedant activity alone. No toxicity was observed nor was there any significant affect on nutritional indices following topical application, further suggesting that prieurianin-type limonoids act specifically as feeding deterrents.  相似文献

Bioassay-guided fractionation of the ethyl acetate extract of Ruta graveolens (common rue) leaves led to the isolation of the furanocoumarins 5-methoxypsoralen (5-MOP), 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP), and the quinolone alkaloid graveoline as phytotoxic constituents. Graveoline and 8-MOP substantially inhibited growth of Lactuca sativa (lettuce) seedlings and reduced chlorophyll content at 100 microM; this effect was not due to a direct effect on chlorophyll synthesis. Radical growth of L. sativa was inhibited by 10 microM 8-MOP. Graveoline inhibited growth of Lemna paucicostata (duckweed) at 100 microM. This is the first report of the phytotoxic activity of graveoline. Growth of Agrostis stolonifera (bentgrass) was inhibited by 5-MOP at 30 microM. All three compounds substantially reduced cell division in Allium cepa (onion) at or below 100 microM. None of the compounds caused significant cellular leakage of Cucumis sativus (cucumber) cotyledon disks at 100 microM. All three compounds inhibit plant growth, at least partially through inhibition of cell division.  相似文献

The ability of four commercial preparations of Oenococcus oeni lactic acid bacteria (EQ 54, Lalvin OSU, Uvaferm Alpha, and Lalvin 31) to hydrolyze wine aroma precursors was evaluated by measuring the concentration of free and bound aroma compounds at the end of malolactic fermentation carried out in model wines containing a mixture of glycosides extracted from Muscat wine. At pH 3.4 there was a decrease in glycosylated compounds matched by a concomitant increase in free forms in all starter cultures tested. When malolactic fermentation was carried out at pH 3.2, a significant decrease in the ability to hydrolyze aroma precursors was observed for two of the cultures tested (Uvaferm Alpha and Lalvin 31). Large differences in the extent of hydrolysis and in the specificity of this activity toward specific aroma precursors were observed and appeared to be related to the chemical structure of the aglycon as well as to individual characteristics of each starter culture. The amounts of glycosylated aroma compounds released during malolactic fermentation suggest that O. oeni can alter the sensory characteristics of wine through the hydrolysis of aroma precursors.  相似文献

Changes in post-cutting volatiles, quality, and sensory attributes during fresh-cut storage (4 degrees C) of cantaloupe (Cucumis melo L. var. Reticulatus, Naudin, cv. 'Sol Real') harvested at four distinct maturities (1/4-, 1/2-, 3/4-, and full-slip) were investigated after 0, 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 14 days in a 2-year study. Increased fruity and sweet taste attributes were negatively correlated with percent acetates, aromatic acetates, and total aromatic compounds, and positively correlated with percentage non-acetate esters. Ethyl hexanoate was strongly positively correlated with fruity and sweet taste. Cucurbit, water-like, hardness, cohesiveness, and denseness were positively correlated with percentage acetates, aromatic acetates, and total aromatic compounds, and negatively correlated with percentage non-acetate esters. Several non-acetate esters such as ethyl 2-methyl propanoate, ethyl butanoate, ethyl 2-methyl butanoate, and ethyl hexanoate were negatively (often strongly) correlated with cucurbit. Hardness was positively and strongly correlated with aromatic acetates and all aromatic (benzyl) compounds. In summary, firmer and denser cubes contained more acetates and fewer non-acetate esters. The apparently negative or undesirable attributes cucurbit and water-like were associated with higher acetates and aromatic compounds. Overall, relatively strong (year x maturity x day) correlations among numerous physiological, volatile, and sensory measures were found in this study. Highly significant (stronger) correlations were found in a year x day analysis used to pair maturity means; however, year and interaction effects require prudence when interpreting that data. Nonetheless, both analyses delivered almost identical trends, and strong correlations occurred even though samples were randomized from numerous fruits, per maturity, per juice catcher container, over 2 years. Further interpretation and biochemical explanation are needed to rationalize why mainly only non-acetate esters were highly correlated with desirable sensory and quality parameters.  相似文献

A series of 3-[(alpha-hydroxy-substituted) benzylidene]pyrrolidine-2,4-dione derivatives were synthesized as candidate herbicides by reacting different aroyl acetates with N-substituted glycine esters. The new compounds were identified by 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Their herbicidal activities were evaluated. Some compounds exhibited excellent herbicidal activities at a dose of 187.5 g/ha. A suitable electron-donating substituent at the 2- and/or 4-position of the phenyl ring was essential for high herbicidal activity, a result that has not been reported before. It was also found that the title compound's structure-activity relationships were different from those of other similar kinds of earlier compounds, a result that may depend on the enol structure difference.  相似文献

Antifeedant and growth inhibitory effects of various neo-clerodane diterpenoids having a furofuran moiety, isolated from Clerodendron spp., were studied using Earias vitella and Spodoptera litura. The compounds clerodendrin B, 3-epicaryoptin, 15-hydroxyepicaryoptin, and clerodin were effective antifeedants at 10 microg/cm(3) (30 microg/g) of diet against E. vitella and at 10 microg/cm(2) of leaf against S. litura. All of the tested compounds, namely, clerodendrin B, 3-epicaryoptin, clerodendrin C, 15-hydroxyepicaryoptin, clerodendrin B acetate, and clerodin, showed good insect growth inhibitory activity even at lower concentrations.  相似文献

Five new limonoids, named munronoids K-O (1-5), together with three known limonoids were isolated from Munronia unifoliola Oliv. These limonoids were involved in the skeletons of evodulone, gedunin, and peieurianin types of limonoids, and their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic data. Compound 5 featuring a γ-lactone ring instead of the β-substituted furan ring was found in the peieurianin type for the first time. The antitobacco mosaic virus (anti-TMV) activities of compounds 1-8 were also evaluated with half-leaf, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and Western blot methods, and limonoids 1, 5, and 8 showed stronger anti-TMV treatment activities than the positive control ningnanmycin. Six compounds (1-5 and 8) exhibited infection inhibition activities against TMV.  相似文献

The chemical part of this investigation focused on designing structures and synthesizing a series of six new esters (juvenogens), derived from biologically active insect juvenile hormone bioanalogues (juvenoids, JHAs) and unsaturated short-chain linear and branched fatty acids for possible application as biochemically targeted insect hormonogen agents. The structures of the new compounds were assigned on the basis of a detailed NMR analysis of their (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra. The biological part of this investigation focused on introductory biological screening tests with these compounds against the red firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus), termites (Reticulitermes santonensis and Prorhinotermes simplex), and the blowfly (Neobellieria bullata). The biological activity of the juvenogens was studied in relation to the fatty acid functionality in the structures. Notable biological activity in topical tests and medium activity in peroral tests was found for the juvenogens 3 and 7 with P. apterus. The compounds 6 and 8 showed the lowest activity in both topical and oral assays with P. apterus. Considerable effect of all tested juvenogens was observed in P. simplex; however, the juvenogens 5 and 6 (derivatives of the only branched short-chain fatty acid) showed no activity against R. santonensis. The effect of the compounds 3-8 on larval hatching of N. bullata was only moderate (larval hatching 80-90%); however, the proliferation effect caused by 5, 6, and 8 is more pronounced than the effect caused by 3, 4, and 7.  相似文献

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an ecto-enzyme widely distributed across species. It modulates a series of transmembranar transport systems, has an important role in bone mineralization, and can also be involved in vascular calcification. Polyphenol-rich diets seem to have protective effects on human health, namely, in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to investigate the effects of polyphenols and polyphenol-rich beverages upon membranar alkaline phosphatase (ecto-ALP) activity in intact human vascular smooth muscle cells (AALTR). The ecto-ALP activity was determined at pH 7.8, with p-nitrophenyl phosphate as the substrate, by absorbance spectrophotometry at 410 nm. Cell viability was assessed by the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) method, and the polyphenol content of beverages was assessed using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. All polyphenols tested inhibited ecto-ALP activity, in a concentration-dependent way. Teas, wines, and beers also inhibited ecto-ALP activity, largely according to their polyphenol content. All tested compounds and beverages improved or did not change AALTR cell viability. Stout beer was an exception to the described behavior. Although more studies must be done, the inhibition of AALTR ecto-ALP activity by polyphenolic compounds and polyphenol-containing beverages may contribute to their cardiovascular protective effects.  相似文献

为研制一种兼防大豆根腐病和根部虫害的高效、低毒种衣剂,本研究采用菌丝生长抑制法测定了96%烯效唑(uniconzole)原药、96%丙环唑(propiconazole)原药、97%阿维菌素(abamectin)原药对大豆根腐病致病菌尖孢镰孢菌(Fusarium oxyporum)和禾谷镰孢菌(F. graminearum)的毒力,筛选最佳复配比,并利用湿研磨法制备种衣剂,进行室内盆栽苗的防效验证。结果表明,当烯效唑、丙环唑和阿维菌素的配比为5:1:2时,对2种镰孢菌抑制作用最佳。播种前,采用8%烯·丙·阿悬浮种衣剂0.2~0.5 g·kg-1处理大豆种子,能促进大豆出苗,且对大豆根腐病的相对防效达80.1%以上。本研究开发的8%烯·丙·阿悬浮种衣剂为进一步开展大豆根腐病和根部虫害田间防治奠定了基础。  相似文献

Typical heterocyclic compounds substituted with various functional groups found in Maillard reaction products were examined for antioxidant activity. Pyrroles exhibited the greatest antioxidant activity among all heterocyclic compounds tested. All pyrroles inhibited hexanal oxidation by almost 100% at a concentration of 50 microg/mL over 40 days. Addition of formyl and acetyl groups to a pyrrole ring enhanced antioxidative activity remarkably. Pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde, 2-acetylpyrrole, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolecarboxaldehyde, and 2-acetyl-1-methylpyrrole inhibited hexanal oxidation by >80% at 10 microg/mL. Unsubstituted furan exhibited the greatest antioxidant activity among furans tested. Addition of all functional groups used in this study to furan decreased antioxidative activity. The antioxidant activity of thiophene increased with the addition of methyl and ethyl groups, but the addition of formyl or acetyl groups to thiophene decreased antioxidant activity. Thiazoles and pyrazines were ineffective antioxidants at all concentrations tested. Reaction of all heterocyclic compounds with hydrogen peroxide resulted in the formation of various oxidized products.  相似文献

The insecticidal activity of phytochemicals isolated from the roots of Phryma leptostachya var. asiatica against third instar larvae of Culex pipiens pallens, Aedes aegypti, and Ocheratatos togoi was examined. The two constituents of P. leptostachya var. asiatica roots were identified as the leptostachyol acetate (I) and 8'-acetoxy-2,2',6-trimethoxy-3,4,4',5'-dimethylenedioxyphenyl-7,7'-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane (II) by spectroscopic analysis. Compound I was lethal to C. pipiens pallens, A. aegypti, and O. togoi at 10 ppm. Compound II showed weak or no insecticidal activity against three mosquito species at 10 ppm. The LC(50) values of I against C. pipiens pallens, A. aegypti, and O. togoi were 0.41, 2.1, and 2.3 ppm, respectively. Naturally occurring P. leptostachya var. asiatica root-derived compounds merit further study as potential mosquito larval control agents or lead compounds.  相似文献

Abstract

Laboratory bioassays were used to investigate plant growth‐regulating effects of three different experimental soil additives, designated EXP95, W91, and Z96. A yeast growth test was used as a general assay of bioactivity, responses to soil additives were compared to those of known plant growth regulators [indoleacetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA3), and kinetin]. A corn coleoptile elongation test was used to assay for auxin‐like activity and a dwarf pea bioassay was used for gibberellin‐like activity. The three soil additives were tested at five solution concentrations ranging from 1 to 10,000 ppm (by volume). All three soil additives stimulated yeast growth, depending on the concentration of the test solutions. However, all three soil additives inhibited plant growth in the two plant bioassays. Although this study clearly demonstrated that the three soil additives had significant biological activity at very low concentrations, there was little evidence for auxin‐like or gibberellin‐like activity.  相似文献

Thermal treatment of aqueous solutions of xylose, rhamnose, and l-alanine led to a rapid development of a bitter taste of the reaction mixture. To characterize the key compounds causing this bitter taste, the recently developed taste dilution analysis (TDA), which is based on the determination of the taste threshold of reaction products in serial dilutions of HPLC fractions, was performed to locate the most intense taste compounds in the complex mixture of Maillard reaction products. By application of this TDA, 26 fractions were obtained, among which seven fractions were evaluated with a high taste impact. LC/MS and NMR spectroscopy as well as synthetic experiments revealed the 1-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indolizinium-6-olates 1-5 as the key compounds contributing the most to the intense bitter taste of the Maillard mixture. Calculation of the taste impact of these compounds based on a dose/activity relationship indicated that these five compounds already accounted for 56.8% of the overall bitterness of the Maillard mixture, thus demonstrating this class of 1-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indolizinium-6-olates as the key bitter compounds. First synthetic studies on the relationship between the chemical structure and the human psychobiological activity of 1-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indolizinium-6-olates revealed that substitution of the furan rings of 1 by 5-methylfuryl moieties (compounds 3-5) or by 5-(hydroxymethyl)furyl groups (compound 6) led to a significant increase of the bitter threshold. In contrast, the substitution of the oxygen atoms in the furan rings of 1 by sulfur atoms induced a significant decrease of the detection threshold of the 1-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indolizinium-6-olate; for example, the thiophene derivative 7 showed the extraordinarily low bitter detection threshold of 6.3 x 10(-5) mmol/kg (water).  相似文献

以番茄为试材,研究常用的几种基质:大田土,有机土,蛭石和草碳混合物接种丛枝菌根真菌(AMF)中的Glomus mosseae(G.m)对番茄生长及PAL、PP0酶活性的影响。结果表明:接种G.m对番茄株高和茎粗均有显著的促生效应,G.m在蛭石+草碳处理中对番茄的促生效果最好,总干物重比对照增加131%, 不同基质极显著地影响了G.m侵染和扩展,有机土中G.m的侵染率最高。接种35 d,50 d,65 d PAL,PPO酶活均呈现由高到低的趋势,但不同基质间PAL,PPO酶活随侵染率的不同呈现显著差异。  相似文献
