Autonomic and cardiovascular changes were studied when neuromuscular blockade was antagonized in 96 dogs with one of eight anticholinesterase-antimuscarinic drug combinations. Neostigmine (50 or 100 micrograms/kg) was administered before or after atropine (40 micrograms/kg) or glycopyrrolate (10 micrograms/kg). The high dose of neostigmine (100 micrograms/kg) caused bradyarrhythmias, salivation, and signs of bronchosecretion when used with either antimuscarinic agent and irrespective of the administration sequence. The heart rate increased, but not significantly, when atropine was injected before either dose of neostigmine. This did not occur when this administration sequence was reversed. Arrhythmias and cardiovascular and autonomic changes did not occur when glycopyrrolate was injected before or after neostigmine at 50 micrograms/kg. 相似文献

Ten dogs were studied to determine the effects of xylazine, ketamine, and xylazine combined with ketamine on the dosage of epinephrine required to produce ventricular arrhythmia. Untreated dogs required an arrhythmogenic dose (AD) of 5.88 +/- 2.85 micrograms/kg/min. The AD was 4.28 +/- 3.25 micrograms/kg/min in xylazine-treated dogs, 3.05 +/- 2.3 micrograms/kg/min in ketamine-treated dogs, and 2.96 +/- 1.95 micrograms/kg/min in xylazine/ketamine-treated dogs. The latter two dosages were significantly less than that of the controls (p less than 0.025). The duration of increased arrhythmogenicity was also examined. Four hours after drug administration, the AD for xylazine-treated dogs was decreased further to 3.87 +/- 2.52 micrograms/kg/min (p less than 0.05). Ketamine-treated dogs had returned partially to normal with an AD of 4.09 +/- 3.09 micrograms/kg/min, as had xylazine/ketamine-treated dogs, at 4.22 +/- 2.71 micrograms/kg/min. 相似文献

The effects of increasing respiratory rates on arterial pH, PaCO2, HCO3, and potassium (K) were measured in normal anesthetized dogs. Hyperventilation resulted in increased pH, decreased PaCO2, decreased HCO3, and decreased K compared with those parameters in spontaneously breathing dogs. The changes were related quantitatively: each 10 mmHg decrease in PaCO2 was associated with a pH increase of 0.1, a HCO3 decrease of 2.0 mEq/L, and a K decrease of 0.4 mEq/L. There were no cardiac arrhythmias or clinical signs of hypokalemia. After termination of hyperventilation, serum K was slower to return to control values than PaCO2. The ratio of the duration of hyperventilation to the time required for return of serum K to control was 0.67. 相似文献

A Y-U pyloroplasty was performed on five healthy adult dogs. Gastric emptying half times (t1/2 GE) of a canned food meal were measured by scintigraphy three times before surgery and three times from 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. Fluoroscopic studies of gastric and duodenal motility were made before surgery and 3, 7, and 35 days after surgery. Clinical observations were made daily throughout the study. Gross and histologic evaluations of the gastroesophageal and pyloric regions were performed at the termination of the study. The t1/2 GE was significantly decreased after surgery. By positive contrast fluoroscopy, the vigor of antral contractions was seen to be decreased in three of the five dogs. On days 7 and 35, fluoroscopic findings were comparable to preoperative studies. Duodenogastric reflux was recognized fluoroscopically in three dogs on four different occasions. This may reflect normal reflux patterns in the dog. No gastrointestinal problems were evident after surgery in four dogs. Reflux esophagitis developed in one dog after surgery, which resolved with therapy. Studies of the Y-U pyloroplasty after 2 months indicated that it decreased gastric emptying time of solid food. Results of postmortem examination showed no abnormal gross or histopathologic changes of esophageal, gastric, or proximal duodenal tissues. 相似文献

Objective —To characterize the hemodynamic effects of medetomidine administered intravenously at doses ranging from 1 to 20 μg/kg, and to determine whether these effects are dose dependent. Study Design —Prospective randomized multidose trial. Animals —Twenty-five clinically normal male beagles (5 groups of 5), aged 1 to 4 years and weighing 13.5 ±1.7 kg. Methods —Medetomidine, at a dose of 1, 2, 5, 10, or 20 μg/kg, was administered intravenously at time 0. Heart rate, arterial pressure, central venous pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, body temperature, cardiac output, and packed cell volume were measured immediately before and at selected times after medetomidine administration (3, 7, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 minutes in all groups, at 90 minutes for the 10 and 20 μg/kg groups, and at 120 minutes for the highest dose). Cardiac index, stroke index, rate-pressure product, systemic vascular resistance index, pulmonary vascular resistance index, and left and right ventricular stroke work indices were calculated. The degree of sedation was subjectively scored by an observer who was blinded to the treatment used. Results —Heart rate, rate-pressure product, cardiac index, and left and right ventricular stroke work indices decreased below baseline values. Central venous pressure and systemic vascular resistance index increased above baseline measurements. Except in the 2 μg/kg group, after an initial and short lasting increase, a prolonged decrease in arterial pressure was observed. Conclusions —Hemodynamic changes were observed with the intravenous (IV) administration of medetomidine, at any dose. However, the two lowest doses (1 and 2 μg/kg) produced less cardiovascular depression. Clinical Relevance —Medetomidine is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist widely used in dogs, producing sedation, analgesia and cardiovascular depression. When using IV medetomidine, a reduction of the recommended dosage (ie, ±30 to 40 μg/kg) by up to 6 times did not significantly influence the cardiovascular effects. 相似文献

Evoked potentials were produced by anodal stimulation over the motor cortex in six dogs. Potentials were recovered from the cranial thoracic and caudal lumbar portions of the spinal cord, and the radial and sciatic nerves. Evoked potential averages were recorded every 1.5 minutes during 40 minutes of aortic occlusion and during 40 minutes of reperfusion. Mean amplitudes of evoked potentials recovered from the caudal lumbar spinal cord decreased to 50% of original values at minute 12.2. Upon release of occlusion, the evoked potentials returned to baseline levels and remained there throughout the period of reperfusion. Sciatic nerve amplitudes decreased to 50% of original values at minute 4.5. In no subject could wave forms be recovered after minute 9.0. Upon release of occlusion, the evoked potentials returned to baseline levels and above, then deteriorated to 29 +/- 12% after 40 minutes of reperfusion. We concluded that transcranially induced evoked potentials were highly sensitive to spinal cord ischemia. Evoked potentials recovered from the sciatic nerve were consistent with functional grey matter immediately upon reperfusion, but deteriorated during reperfusion. 相似文献

Abstract— The effects of decerebration and spinal cord transection were observed in twenty-two dogs aged from birth to 6 wk of age. In the youngest dogs, decerebrations caused no marked neurologic or behavioural changes and similarly spinal shock was not observed in the more immature subjects. These findings are discussed in the light of neurophysiological development of the dog and related (non-precocial) species. Diagnosis and prognosis of neurologic disorders in the neonate dog should be guarded since few higher cortical structures are integrated in behavioural organization until at a later age. The gradual emergence of clinical symptoms if studied early in life may constitute a regime of developmental neurologic diagnosis which would aid prognosis, location and extent of the lesion. Résumé— Les effets de la décérébration et de la section transversale de la moelle épinière ont été observés chez 22 chiens, leur âge variant du moment de la naissance jusqu'à six semaines. Chez les jeunes chiens, la décérébration n'a pas causé des changements neurologiques ou de comportement, marquées; un choc spinal n'a été observé non plus chez les sujets plus immatures. Ces résultats sont discutés dans la lumière du développement neurophysiologique du chien et des espèces apparentées (non précoces). Le diagnostique et le pronostique de désordres neurologiques chez le chien nouveauné devraient être pris en consideration, étant donné que peu de structures corticales plus importantes sont integrées dans l'organisation du comportement, avant un âge plus avancé. L'apparition progressive de symptomes cliniques, s'ils sont étudés tôt, dans le première de la vie, peut constituer une méthode de diagnostique neurologique qui peut aider la pronostique, la localisation et l'étendue de la lésion. Zusammenfassung— Der Effekt von Hirnentfernung und Rückenmarktransektion wurde bei 22 neugeborenen bis 5 Wochen alten Hunden beobachtet. Bei den jüngsten Hunden verursachte Hirnentfernung weder bemerkenswerte neurologische noch psychologische Veränderungen; auch Rückenmarkschock wurde bei weniger entwickelten Versuchstieren nicht beobachtet. Diese Feststellungen sind im Sinne neuro-physiologischer Entwicklung bei Hunden und verwandten (nicht frühreifen) Tierarten besprochen. Diagnosen und Prognosen über neurologische Störungen bei neonatalen Hunden sollten mit Vorchicht behandelt werden, da wenige höhere, äussere Strukturschichten vor einem gewissen Alter in den Aufbau des Behaviorsmus' einbezogen werden. Das im frühen Alter beobachtete allmähliche Auftauchen von klinischen Symptomen könnte zu einer Richtung in neurologischer Entwicklingsdiagnose führen, welche zu Prognosen, zu örtlichen Bestimmungen und nur Beurteiluzg des Ausmasses der Verletzung beitragen würde. 相似文献

Cardiopulmonary effects of laparoscopic surgery were investigated in five crossbred dogs (21 ± 1.9 kg). Premedicated dogs were anesthetized with thiopental and maintained with halothane at 1.5 times minimum alveolar concentration in oxygen. Controlled ventilation maintained partial pressure of end-tidal co2 at 40 ± 2 mm Hg. Vecuronium was used for skeletal muscle relaxation. After instrumentation and stabilization, baseline measurements were made of cardiac output (thermodilution technique), mean systemic, mean pulmonary arterial and pulmonary wedge pressures, heart rate, saphenous vein and central venous pressures, and minute ventilation. Baseline arterial and mixed venous blood samples were drawn for analysis of pH, Pao2 , Paco2 , Pvo2 , Pvco2 , and bicarbonate concentrations. Systemic and pulmonary vascular resistances, oxygen delivery and consumption, shunt fraction, and dead space ventilation were calculated using standard formulas. Abdominal insufflation using co2 to a pressure of 15 mm Hg for 180 minutes resulted in significant ( P <.05) increases in heart rate (15 to 180 minutes), minute ventilation (75 to 135 minutes), and saphenous vein pressure (15 to 180 minutes), and decreases in pH (60 to 180 minutes) and Pao2 (60 to 180 minutes). For 30 minutes after desufflation, there was a significant decrease in Pao2 , and increases in cardiac output, o2 delivery, and heart rate, compared with baseline. There was a significant increase in shunt fraction and decrease in pH at 15 minutes after desufflation only. The changes were within physiologically acceptable limits in these healthy, ventilated dogs. 相似文献

The mechanism underlying the process of normal testicular descent in the dog has been examined by a morphological, histological and histochemical analysis of testis and gubernaculum during the period from the 53rd day post coitum (p. c.) until the 40th day post partum (p. p.). Within this period, the testis passes the inguinal canal on the third or fourth day p. p. and reaches its scrotal location on the 35th day p. p. During the entire period the histological composition of the testis (volume percentage of seminiferous tubules, volume percentage of Leydig cells, diameter of seminiferous tubules, number of germ cells) is fairly constant. The △5 -3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity in the Leydig cells before birth suggests a steroid synthesis. Outgrowth and swelling of the gubernaculum occurs until the fifth day p. p. but morphological, histological and histochemical data indicate an onset of gubernacular regression during the last phase of the outgrowth reaction. The migration of the testis from the caudal end of the kidney towards the inguinal canal is associated with the outgrowth of the gubernaculum; during the phase of gubernacular regression, the testis moves from the inguinal canal towards its ultimate location in the scrotal pouch. 相似文献

The effects of fine suture materials on corneal wound healing in the dog were studied. In 20 dogs, standardized perforating perilimbal clear corneal wounds were made and closed with either monofilament Polyglactin 910 or nylon. Five dogs each were euthanized 8,12,16, and 21 days postoperatively. Results of gross, biomicroscopic, and histologic examinations at 8,12,16, and 21 days showed nylon and Polyglactin 910 to cause similar inflammatory responses. Epithelialization and suppuration around the suture tracts were observed more frequently when Polyglactin 910 was used. Both materials were associated with a foreign body (granulomatous) response. There was no loss of wound integrity with either material. Strengths of the incised corneal tissues with and without the sutures intact were determined. At day 16 postsurgery, there was a statistically significant difference in tissue strengths between cases in which sutures were and were not intact. This difference was not apparent at 21 days postsurgery, which suggested that the suture dependent phase ends between the 16th and 21st postsurgical days. In addition, at day 16 there was no statistical difference between the tissue strength of wounds sutured with nylon or Polyglactin 910. Corneal suture materials studied should remain in place for at least 16 days, and absorbable material is only appropriate if it retains tensile strength for 16 days. 相似文献

The nasal cavities of 14 dogs and three cats were explored surgically using a ventral rhinotomy. The exposure achieved through this approach was considered to be equal to a dorsal rhinotomy. One animal died during the immediate postoperative period from perforation of a gastric ulcer. The other animals recovered well and had no significant complications. The long-term survival of the animals was consistent with previous reports for their diseases. Ventral rhinotomy is no more difficult than dorsal rhinotomy, has less patient morbidity and fewer postoperative complications, and is more cosmetically acceptable. 相似文献

The medical records from 95 cases of coxofemoral luxation in dogs and cats were reviewed. Unilateral craniodorsal luxation was most common, (78.1% of dogs, 72.7% of cats). Trauma from being struck by an automobile was the most frequent cause (59.0%). Treatment was closed (manual) or open (surgical) reduction. The failure rate following single closed reduction was 64.8%. The surgical reduction procedure included capsular repair (capsulorrhaphy) via a craniolateral approach to the hip or via trochanteric osteotomy or gluteal tenotomy. The success rate following reduction via the craniolateral approach was 82%; no failure was recorded with trochanteric transposition, but reluxa-tion followed the single gluteal tenotomy. The Ehmer sling was the most common external fixation and was kept in place an average of 12.5 days. Thirty-three animals were available for follow-up, and no difference was recorded in limb function between the two groups of animals treated by closed vs surgical reduction. Patients with degenerative joint disease at the time of luxation were less likely to be successfully reduced; 64.3% of these animals were eventually treated by femoral head and neck excision. Thirty-eight patients had associated major injuries. Long-term follow-up results were better in those patients with concomitant orthopedic injuries than in those without other injuries. 相似文献

Intrapericardial cysts were identified as the cause of impaired cardiac filling in six young dogs. Pneumo-pericardiography and two-dimensional echocardiography showed the cysts in 2 of 2 dogs and in 4 of 4 dogs, respectively. One dog, which was also infected with heartworms, died before surgical excision of the cyst could be performed. In the remaining dogs, surgical excision of the cysts and subtotal pericar-diectomy was successfully accomplished. Histologic examination of the excised tissue from one dog suggested that it was a pericardial coelomic cyst. The gross and histologic characteristics of the cysts removed from the other five dogs resembled those of acquired cystic hematomas. The etiopathogenesis of these cysts was uncertain, but all cysts were connected to a fatty pedicle of tissue. In one dog, a stalk of tissue was observed to enter the pericardium through a small peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia. In four dogs, the stalk of tissue was adhered to the apex of the parietal pericardium. These observations suggested that intrapericardial cysts, in some dogs, develop in association with, and possibly as a result of, congenital herniation and entrapment of omentum or a portion of the falciform ligament into the pericardial sac. Transphyseal freezing of the canine distal femur was evaluated to determine its effect on physeal growth and closure. A specially designed cryoprobe was used to freeze the distal right femoral physis in 17 immature dogs. The left distal femoral physis was sham operated to serve as a control. Dogs were radiographed weekly and euthanized from 2 days to 8 weeks following surgery. The rate of long bone growth decreased in all dogs, and the physis was closed at 6 to 8 weeks.
Histologic studies on the distal femoral physes revealed that immediately after freezing, there was extensive hemorrhage in the epiphysis and metaphysis with disruption of the physis. Inflammation and death of the physeal cartilage followed. Blood vessels invaded the physis, and eventually bone was formed between the epiphysis and metaphysis, resulting in complete and premature physeal closure. 相似文献
