Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during two dry seasons in northern Nigeria to identify suitable pre‐transplant herbicides for weed control in irrigated tomatoes. At Samaru in the northern Guinea savanna, diphenamid at 1.5 kg a.i./ha followed by supplementary hoe‐weeding, metribuzin at 0.5 kg a.i./ha, diphenamid at 3.0 kg a.i./ha, metolachlor plus metobromuron at 1.0 + 1.0 kg a.i./ha and two or three hoe‐weedings, resulted in higher tomato yields than the untreated controls, and most of these treatments reduced weed infestations significantly in both years. At Bakura, in the Sudan savanna zone, metribuzin at 0.25 and 0.5 kg a.i./ha, diphenamid at 3.0 g a.i./ha and chloramben at 1.5 kg a.i./ha plus supplementary weeding consistently resulted in yields that were similar to two hoe‐weedings and higher than the untreated controls. Three kg a.i./ha of chloramben depressed yields in all the trials. At both sites hoe‐weeding once six weeks after transplanting gave unacceptably low crop yields, but similar high yields were obtained with two or three hoe‐weedings. Supplementary hoe‐weedings were unnecessary with the application of metribuzin at 0.5 kg and metolachlor plus metobromuron at 1.0 + 1.0 kg a.i./ha. Uncontrolled weed growth resulted in a 53–67% reduction in tomato fruit yield.  相似文献

The climbing growth habit of white yam (Dioscorea rotundata) coupled with its inability to shade the ground completely at any stage of its growth and development makes it very susceptible to weed interference. The critical period of weed interference in white yam was between the 8th and 16th week after planting (w.a.p.) for yam planted at the onset of rains. Keeping yam plants weedy for 16 w.a.p. or beyond significantly reduced tuber yield; keeping them weed-free for the same period resulted in a significant increase in tuber yield. A minimum of three weedings within 16 w.a.p. are necessary to minimize yield reduction caused by weeds. The lowest weed weight and highest crop yield from herbicide treatments were obtained where a mixture of fluometuron and metolachlor each at 2.0 kg a.i./ha was used for pre-emergence weed control.  相似文献

Abstract: Field investigations were carried out during 1999 and 2000 to identify effective chemical/ cultural methods of weed control in rose-scented geranium (Pelargonium spp). The treatments comprised pre-emergence applications of oxyfluorfen (0.15, 0.20 and 0.25 kg AI ha(-1)) and pendimethalin (0.50, 0.75 and 1.00kg AI ha(-1)), successive hand weeding, hoeing and mulching using spent of lemon grass (at 5 tonnes ha(-1)) 45 days after planting (DAP), three hand-weedings 30, 60 and 90 DAP, weed-free (frequent manual weeding) and weedy control. Broad-leaf weeds were more predominant than grass and sedge weeds, accounting for 85.8% weed density and 93.0% weed dry weight in 1999 and 77.2% weed density and 93.9% weed dry weight in 2000. Unrestricted weed growth significantly reduced geranium oil yield, by 61.6% and 70.6% in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Pre-emergence application of pendimethalin (0.75-1.00 kgAI ha(-1)) or oxyfluorfen (0.25 kg AI ha(-1)), successive hand-weeding, hoeing and mulching and three hand-weedings were highly effective in reducing weed density and dry weight and gave oil yield comparable to the weed-free check. Application of oxyfluorfen (0.15 or 0.20 kg AI ha(-1)) and pendimethalin (0.50 kg AI ha(-1)) were less effective in controlling the weed species in geranium. None of the herbicides impaired the quality of rose-scented geranium oil measured in terms of citronellol and geraniol content.  相似文献

Several herbicides applied singly and in combination were evaluated for weed control and for their effects on crop yield in direct-seeded lowland rice under poor water management conditions characteristic of the conditions in which lowland rice is grown by most farmers in West Africa. Several herbicides including cyperquat at 3.0 kg/ha, a mixture of cyperquat and 2,4-D at 2.0 + 0.5 kg/ha, bentazon at 2.0 kg/ha and avirosan satisfactorily controlled sedges in the 3-year study. Crop yield was consistently high in plots where weeds were controlled with post-emergence application of MCPA + propanil at 1.0+1.7 kg/ha, propanil + thiobencarb 2.2+1.2 kg/ha, oxadiazon 1.5 kg/ha, bentazon 2.0, granular 2,4-D at 1.0 kg/ha, and a pre-emergence application of bifenox at 2.0 kg/ha. Crop yields in plots treated with these herbicides were generally better than with two hand-weedings.  相似文献

Abstract

Seven different herbicides were tested in 1967, and two of these chemicals were further evaluated in 1969 for their efficacy in onions grown in Lebanon. Chloroxuron at 6 kg a.i./ha and Sindone at 1.5 kg/ha gave a significant increase in the bulb weight and yield of onions over unweeded plots. Significant reductions in yield were observed from pre-em. applications of chlorbromuron at 3 kg/ha, propachlor at 6 kg/ha, Sindone at 0.5 kg/ha, and prometryne at 1 and 1.5 kg/ha. Good weed control was obtained as a result of pre-em. application of all herbicides tested.

With post-em. application, weed control was not effective. With the exception of prometryne at 1.5 kg/ha which injured the onions and reduced the yield, the post-em. applications of herbicides tested gave no significant effect on onion yield.

None of the treatments, in both pre-em. and post-em. applications, had any significant effect on leaf length, bulb index, bolting and splitting percentages, dry matter content, total soluble solids, or pungency of onions.  相似文献

In this experiment, weed management was studied in zero tillage (ZT) and conventional tillage (CT) wheat with and without crop residue and nitrogen (N). The treatment ZT with crop residue retention (R) and 75% of required N plus GreenSeeker? (GS)-aided N management (ZTRNGS) resulted in a reduction of density and dry weight of weeds compared to CT and ZT without residue. Sequential application of pendimethalin and sulfosulfuron (PMT-SSF) reduced the weed density and dry weight compared to the weedy check (WC). Importantly, the richness and diversity indices were high in ZTRNGS and in WC treatments. Greater wheat grain (5.11 t/ha) and biomass yield (13.31 t/ha) were observed in ZTRNGS than CT without residue and blanket split application of N (CTN). The treatment ZTRNGS recorded 14.1% and 16.9% higher gross and net returns, respectively, over CTN. This study demonstrates that surface retention of crop residue in ZT is more useful than residue incorporation under CT for effective weed control, improving crop yield and profitability.  相似文献

Summary. A weed management strategy for the control of Rottboellia cochinchinensis (Lour.) W.D. Clayton in maize, based on reducing the level of spikelet germination from the seedbank and reducing the intensity of weed-crop interference, was conducted over two seasons. The management practices evaluated included chemical control (atrazine, metolachlor, pendimethalin, EPTC), cultural control (straw mulch), mechanical control (inter-row cultivation) and biological control (living mulch). The results indicated that the various management practices had no effect on the growth and development of the crop but significantly affected the weed. The pendimethalin (1°5 kg a.i. ha−1) and inter-row cultivation (14 and 28 days after planting) treatments gave satisfactory control of the weed in the crop over the duration of the critical period of weed competition. All other treatments were ineffective. All management practices made significant contributions to the weed seedbank, thus ensuring the predominance of the weed.  相似文献

Linuron (0.21 and 0.28 kg/ha) and linuron + MCPA (0.21+0.56 kg/ha) in a tank mixture with field rates of barban, difenzoquat and flamprop-methyl reduced the phytotoxicity of these herbicides to Avena fatua. When linuron was applied immediately following or 6 days after the A. fatua herbicides no reduction in phytotoxicity to A. fatua occurred, suggesting that the antagonism may be occurring as a result of physical or chemical incompatability when the herbicides are mixed together. The possibility of obtaining broad-spectrum weed control with one trip over the field by applying linuron and one of these wild oat herbicides separately but at the same time using a double-boom, double-tank system deserves evaluation. When linuron was applied in a tank mixture (0.21 and 0.28 kg/ha), immediately after, or 6 days after diclofop-methyl (0.70 kg/ha), there was no reduction of A. fatua control, and wheat tolerance to the tank mixture was good. This tank mixture offers potential for control under field conditions of A. fatua and some broad-leaved weeds in one spray operation. Linuron + MCPA (0.21+0.56 kg/ha) in a tank mixture severely reduced A. fatua control with diclofop-methyl. No loss of phytotoxicity to Fagopyrum tataricum occurred when the A. fatua herbicides tested were tank mixed with linuron or linuron + MCPA. Annual applications of the herbicides atrazine, simazine, linuron and diuron at 45 kg/ha were made to the same plots for 9 consecutive years from 1963 to 1971 in a peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.) orchard located on sandy loam soil near Harrow, Ontario. Soil samples from these plots were collected in late October for the last 3 years (1969–1971) and trees were cut down in December, 1969. Herbicide residues were determined by bioassays based on the fresh and dry weight of oats (Avena sativa L.) and in one year results were confirmed by chemical analysis. Significant accumulation of herbicides was not observed. The maximum residue levels measured in October over the 3 years of sampling were 7′3 kg/ha for diuron, 3–8 kg/ha for linuron, 1–6 kg/ha for simazine and 04 kg/ha for atrazine in the top 15 cm of the soil profile. Simazine and atrazine showed a rapid decrease in amount after treatment but diuron and linuron were degraded more slowly. Measurable residues of all herbicides were confined to the upper 15 cm of the soil profile and the majority of herbicide remained in the 0–5-cm soil layer. Oats were planted in the orchard plots from 1972 to 1974 to follow the disappearance of the herbicides. All herbicides caused highly significant yield decreases in 1972, atrazine causing the least (38%) and diuron the greatest (86%) reductions. Diuron reduced the yield of oats in 1973 and caused a highly significant decrease in the weight of young oat plants in 1974.  相似文献

Field and pot investigations were conducted to determine the effectiveness of pyroxasulfone alone and its combinations with other herbicides against diverse weed flora of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) including multiple herbicide-resistant (MHR) littleseed canarygrass (Phalaris minor Retz.). Applications of pyroxasulfone 100–127.5 g/ha as pre-emergence (PE) or early post-emergence (EPOE) @ 63.75 g/ha at 21–23 days after sowing (1 day before irrigation) were highly effective for control of grass weeds namely P. minor and wild oat (Avena ludoviciana Dur.). It was poor for control of broad-leaved weeds (Medicago denticulata Willd. and Rumex dentatus L.). However, pyroxasulfone in tank-mix combination with metsulfuron 4 g/ha, triasulfuron 20 g/ha, and pyroxsulam 18 g/ha effectively controlled (96.5%–99.8%) the diverse weed flora and improved the wheat grain yield (69.5%–285.9%) over untreated weedy control. Also, the pre-mix of pyroxasulfone + pendimethalin applied as PE was superior to either of these applied alone for weed control and grain yield. Pyroxasulfone 100–127.5 g/ha had yield gain of 119.6%–125.4% and 10.1%–26% over untreated control and pendimethalin 800–1250 g/ha, respectively. In pot studies, straw burnt ash drastically reduced the pyroxasulfone efficacy against P. minor and A. ludoviciana. Pyroxasulfone was also effective in pot studies for control of MHR P. minor having resistance against acetyl-coA carboxylase (ACCase), acetolactate synthase (ALS), and photosynthesis at the photosystem-II site-A (PS-II) inhibitor herbicides (clodinafop, sulfosulfuron, and isoproturon, respectively). The studies indicate that pyroxasulfone as PE or EPOE can be an alternative grass weed control herbicide in wheat in particular for the control of MHR P. minor.  相似文献

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the wet seasons of 1980 and 1981 to find out the relative influence of weed control and applied nitrogen on performance of transplanted rice and nutrients uptake by rice and weeds. Propanil and thiobencarb, each at 2.0 kg a.i/ha, were found comparable to two hand weedings in increasing grain yield of rice and minimizing dry matter of weeds. The mean grain yield was increased by 28.06% while dry matter of weeds reduced by 84.04% over unweeded control. Application of nitrogen from 0 to 75 kg N/ha increased grain yield to the tune of 1631 kg/ha. Remarkable increase in grain yield was noticed when weed control treatments were associated with application of nitrogen. Higher uptake of N, P and K by crop and lower removal of same nutrients by weeds were observed in herbicides and hand weedings than unweeded control. N, P and K in the order of 11.49, 1.71 and 12.40 kg/ha respectively could be saved through weed control in transplanted rice.  相似文献

In India, wheat is prone to being heavily infested with weeds, which cause considerable yield losses. Agronomic practices, including sowing method, influence weed interference in wheat growth. A herbicide mixture is usually more effective than a single herbicide for controlling a broad-spectrum of weeds. It may prevent weed species shift and delay resistance development in weeds. This study attempted to develop an integrated approach, combining a modified sowing method with applying a herbicide mixture for efficient weed management in wheat. We found that flat bed missing-row sowing resulted in significant reductions in: (i) the three-year mean population densities of grassy, broad-leaved and total weeds at 40 days after sowing (d.a.s), (ii) total weed population density and biomass (dry weight) at 60 d.a.s., compared to a mainly, furrow-irrigated raised bed system. Applying a tank-mix of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl at 0.08 kg/ha and isoproturon at 0.4 kg/ha applied 30 d.a.s. resulted in significant reductions in total weed population density and biomass, leading to a significant improvement in wheat growth and yield compared to either a weedy check or a regime of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl applied at 0.10 kg/ha. However, a combination of the flat bed missing-row sowing and tank-mix application of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 0.08 kg/ha and isoproturon 0.4 kg/ha 30 d.a.s. resulted in higher wheat yield through better management of weeds compared with other sowing/ weed control combinations.  相似文献

Abstract

Maize cultivation in Nigeria has increased rapidly in the last few years as fertilizers have become more readily available to farmers. Without the use of herbicides however, the area of land that can be brought under maize production will be limited. The following herbicides were evaluated in three ecological zones of Nigeria: atrazine and mixtures of atrazine and simazine, atrazine and metolachlor and atrazine and cyanazine. All herbicide treatments were applied at the rate of either 1.0 or 2.0 kg a.i./ha. The plots that received 1.0 kg a.i./ha also received one supplementary hand weeding. All treatments gave yields comparable to the weed free control, with the exception of the unweeded higher rate of the atrazine and cyanazine treatment which gave the lowest grain yield as a result of poor weed control.  相似文献

Abstract

In field experiments conducted at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1973–74 and 1974–75, pre-emergence application (one day after sowing) of methabenzthiazuron (1.05 kg a.i./ha), metoxuron (1.6 kg a.i./ha) and chlortoluron (0.75 kg a.i./ha) gave effective control of Phalaris minor and Avena ludoviciana in wheat without any phytotoxic effect on the crop. Methabenzthiazuron, metoxuron and chlortoluron gave 1410, 1420 and 1090 kg/ha, respectively, more grain than the unweeded crop and 590, 600 and 270 kg/ha more than the crop hand-weeded twice. Nitrofen (1.25 kg a.i./ha) applied pre-emergence was effective against P. minor only and gave substantial increase in grain yield. Terbutryne, dichlormate and linuron, while effective against P. minor, also had a phytotoxic effect on the crop.  相似文献

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at Jobner (Rajasthan) during the winter seasons of 1982 and 1983 to evaluate certain physical and chemical weed control systems in fenugreek at two levels of applied phosphorus. The experiments comprised four herbicides (fluchloralin, pendimethalin, thiobencarb, and chloramben) at two levels each, manual weeding at three levels; and an unweeded check. The second factor, namely, application of phosphorus was evaluated at 0 and 40 kg P2O5/ha. The soil of the experiment site was loamy sand, containing 0.16% organic carbon. The results showed that amongst the herbicides, preemergent pendimethalin at 0.75 kg/ha controlled the weeds most effectively and gave 8.91 q/ha fenugreek seed yield, which was more than twice the seed yield obtained from the unweeded check plots. The twice hoed plots were found to give 1.32 q/ha higher seed yield than the pendimethalin herbicide treatment, but the benefit‐cost ratio was found higher for the herbicidal treatment. Application of phosphorus at 40 kg P2O5/ha was found to bring about significant increase in the seed yield of fenugreek by 59 kg/ha over control, without any interaction with the weed control treatments.  相似文献

Five herbicides were tested in the dry and in the wet season for their effectiveness in conlrolling perennial nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) in direct-seeded upland rice in the tropics. K-223 [N-(α,α-dimethylbenzyl)-N'-P-tolyl urea] gave the best results. When broadcast sprayed at 8.0 kg a.i./ha in the dry season and 10 kg a.i./ha in the wet season and immediately mixed into the soit just before drilling, K-223 gave excellent perennial nutsedge control with no visible crop damage and increased the grain yield. Bentazone at 2.0 kg a.i./ha applied 7 days after crop emergence was highly selective and gave fair control of nutsedge without being toxic to the crop. MBR 8251 [1.1,1-trifluoro-4′-(phenylsulfonyl) methane-sulfono-o-toluidide] at 2.0 kg a.i./ha, mecoprop (MCPP) at 1.5 kg a.c./ha and fenoprop (silvex) at 1.0 kg a.e./ha applied 7, 14 and 7 days, respectively after crop emergence provided a fair degree of nutsedge control. Fenoprop and MBR 8251 caused slight and mecoprop moderate initial toxicity, but the injury sustained did not significantly affect crop yield.  相似文献

Abstract

Two field experiments on chemical weed control in Faro 41 upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) variety were conducted at a rainforest site near the National Cereals Research Institute, Amakama Substation in 1989 and 1990. The herbicides tested were a coformulated mixture of pretilachlor and dimethametryne at 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 kg a.i./ha, a co‐formulated mixture of piperophos and propanil applied at 3.16 and 3.95 kg a.i./ha, and Oxadiazon at 1.0 kg a.i./ha. Two hand weedings and a ‘no weeding’ treatment were included. The herbicides were applied 5 days after planting. All were safely selective to the crop. Most provided adequate weed control through 8–12 weeks after planting. Weeds controlled included Cynodon dactylon, Commelina benghalensis, Dlgitaria horizontalis, Eleusine indica, Panicum maximum and Pennisetum purpureum as grass weeds. The broadleaf weeds were Emilia sonchifolia, Ageratum conyzoides, Portulaca oleraceae, Richardia brasiliensis and Ipomoea Involuncrata. The sedges Mariscus alternifolius and Cyperus esculentus were encountered in the plots. Pretilachlordimethametryne at 2.5 kg a.i./ha had the best weeding score. Twoyear average grain yields of 1.7–2.6 t/ha were obtained from the herbicide treatments. With only 0.4 t/ha from the unweeded treatment, yield losses of more than 80% were recorded.  相似文献

Weeds are a major biotic constraint; compete with crop for the same resources and ultimately reduce productivity. This study evaluated the impact of irrigation intervals and weed management treatments on chlorophyll content and morphological growth of tomato to find an appropriate integrated weed management strategy. Two-year field experiments (2018/2019) were conducted at district Mardan (34°15′38″ N and 72°6′36″ E). Tomato F1 hybrid (Taj?3592) was transplanted during March. The experiments were laid out in a randomized complete-block design in split-plot arrangement with three replications. The main block comprised three irrigation intervals (3, 6, and 9 days) and the sub-block included weed management treatments: transparent polythene, black polythene, weeding except Orobanche, sole weeding of Orobanche, weeding of all weeds, copper oxychloride 1.5?kg a.i ha?1 (single dose), copper oxychloride 1.5?kg a.i ha?1 (split doses), copper oxychloride?+?humic acid 25?kg ha?1 (single dose), copper oxychloride?+?humic acid 25?kg ha?1 (split doses), copper sulphate 2?kg ha?1 (single dose), copper sulphate 2?kg ha?1 (split doses), ammonium sulphate 200?kg ha?1 (single dose), ammonium sulphate 200?kg ha?1 (split doses), pendimethalin 33 EC 1.44?kg a.i ha?1, glyphosate 48 SL 1.5?kg a.i ha?1, and weedy check. Lowest relative weed density (RWD) of O. cernua (2.23%) and highest RWD of O. cernua (38.01%) were recorded in the 3? and 9?day irrigation intervals, respectively. However, 3?day irrigation interval resulted in highest fresh weed biomass (5794?kg ha?1). Moreover, the 6?day irrigation interval significantly increased chlorophyll content by 11 and 5%, leaf area by 23 and 6%, and number of branches plant?1 by 30 and 22% compared to 9? and 3?day irrigation intervals, respectively. Among the weed management treatments, black polythene resulted in the highest weed control efficiency (96%), increasing chlorophyll content by 16%, leaf area by 33%, and number of branches plant?1 by 64% vs. weedy check. Consequently, 6?day irrigation intervals?×?black polythene could be the best weed management strategy, followed by transparent polythene, weeding of all weeds, pendimethalin, glyphosate, and ammonium sulphate.

In a field trial, different doses of five herbicides applied in autumn and late winder were compared for the control of barley grass (Hordeum leporium Link) in dryland Lucerne. Diuron at 1·1, 2·2, and 4·5 kg/ha and atrazine at 1·1 kg/ha were more effective in increasing Lucerne production than linuron at 4·5 kg/ha and various rates of dalapon and paraquat. Autumn application generally resulted in greater Lucerne production than late winter application. Most treatments reduced the amount of barley grass in the Lucerne. Diuron and atrazine also eliminated reduced the amount of barley grass in the Lucerne. Atrazine, diuron and linuron had a strong residual effect and reduced the density of subterranean clover and barley grass in the autumn following treatment.  相似文献
