1. In experiment 1, the performance and tissue weights of germ-free (GF) and conventional (CV) chicks fed on diets containing 25.4 g acetic acid/kg diet (AD) or 25.4 g kaolin/kg diet (KD) were investigated. Body weight gain in GF chicks was significantly higher on the AD, but significantly lower on the KD compared with their CV counterparts. The values for food efficiency, protein retention and energy retention followed a similar pattern to that of the body weight gain. 2. The weights of all sections of the intestine except the colon were significantly greater in CV chicks. In CV but not in GF birds the jejunum and ileum were heavier from birds fed on the AD than from those on the KD diet. 3. In experiment 2, the influence of butyric acid administration on the weight of some organs in chicks was investigated. The weight of duodenum, jejunum and ileum was significantly increased by intraperitoneal administration of butyric acid (2 ml of 100 mM solution/d) for 4 d, but no significant effect was observed by oral administration. 4. It might be suggested that short chain fatty acids such as acetic and butyric acids formed by bacterial action in the crop and subsequently absorbed are at least partly responsible for the heavier gut weight in CV birds.  相似文献

1. Germ‐free (GF) and conventional (CV) chicks were reared for 14 d on diets containing 50 (LD), 200 (AD) and 400 (HD) g protein/kg. Food and water were provided ad libitum. The size and weight of the proven‐triculus, gizzard, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, caeca, colon, liver, pancreas, heart, spleen, adrenal glands and kidneys were measured, and liver composition was examined.

2. The absolute and relative (weight/kg body‐weight) weights of the intestine of CV chicks fed AD and HD diets were greater than those of GF chicks. The LD diet did not affect the absolute and relative weights of the duodenum and jejunum.

3. The absolute weight, relative weight and fat content of the liver of GF chicks given LD diet were greater than those of their CV counterparts.

4. The size and weight of some organs are affected by the diet (dietary protein content)‐microflora‐host interaction.

The effect of the gut flora on chick growth and protein and energy utilisation at a marginal dietary energy level (calculated metabolisable energy value 11.7 MJ/kg) was determined with diets containing 227 or 293 g protein/kg. Germ-free (GF) and conventional (CV) chicks were reared for 10 d on the diets, and excreta were collected during the last 4 d. The chicks were killed and carcases and droppings were analysed for N and fat. The GF chicks grew significantly faster than the CV controls on both diets. The growth of CV chicks given the high protein diet was similar to that of GF chicks given the adequate protein diet. Protein and energy utilisation were significantly less for CV than for GF chicks on both diets. It was concluded that the energy requirement of CV chicks was greater than that of their GF counterparts, and that their poorer growth was due to utilisation of some dietary protein as an energy source.  相似文献

1. In experiment 1, growing conventional (CV) chicks were fed on diets containing graded amounts (0, 100, 200 and 300 g/kg diet) of sorbose from 4 to 14 d. Protein, fat and energy deposition were determined after carcase analysis. The values for growth, food efficiency, metabolisable energy (ME) and fat and energy depositions declined as the dietary sorbose content increased. 2. In experiment 2, the performances of germ-free (GF) and CV chicks fed on diets with (100 g sorbose/kg diet) or without sorbose were investigated. On both diets, body weight gain, food consumption and protein accumulation in GF chicks were significantly higher than those in CV birds. No significant differences were observed between the dietary treatment except for ME values, which were significantly lower for the sorbose diet. 3. It is suggested that dietary sorbose decreased energy utilisation, and that the microbial contribution to the utilisation of dietary sorbose was negligible in the chicken.  相似文献

The effect of metabolisable energy (ME) intake on the growth and utilisation of dietary protein and energy in germ-free (GF) and conventional (CV) chicks was investigated in two experiments. In experiment 1 a high energy diet (HED, 14.8 kJ ME/g) and a marginally-adequate energy diet (AED, 11.7 kJ ME/g) were fed to the GF and CV chicks at 240 g/2 birds/10 d. In experiment 2 a diet with 13.7 kJ ME/g was fed at 118 g (low level, LL) or 128 g (high level, HL)/bird/10 d. Body weight gain, protein retention and protein retention rate were similar in GF and CV chicks on both AED and HED in the first experiment, but in the second were higher in GF than in CV chicks. The increased ME intake of the CV chicks in experiment 2 may be too small to compensate for the increased requirement. ME intake was significantly higher in the CV chicks than in the GF chicks, whereas energy retention was similar in both groups.  相似文献

A native intestinal microflora of chickens which is protective against salmonella readily transferred to penmates and apparently to birds in adjacent pens. The microflora not only minimized infection resulting from exposure following colonization of the gut with microflora, but significantly abbreviated the period of infection when introduced after a salmonella infection was established in chicks. A microflora with undiminished protective activity, sensitive to only a few commonly used antibacterials, was established in a SPF-Cofal/Marek-negative population. Intestinal microflora from mourning doves was at least partially effective in protecting chicks against a naladixic-acid-resistant strain of Salmonella infantis. In limited tests with 2 of 3 sources of protective microflora, the growth rate of chicks in the absence of salmonellae was significantly improved. A hypothesis involving specificity of attachment between the glycocalyces of the protective microflora and of the intestinal mucosa is offered as the likely mechanism of protection.  相似文献

1. In areas of intensive animal production heavy metals such as zinc (Zn), which is present at high concentrations in poultry excreta in relation to plant requirements, may be at the origin of soil phytotoxicity This study was conducted in order to determine the effect of decreasing dietary Zn content on growth, plasma, tibia and whole body Zn concentrations, immune function, enzyme activity, Zn body retention and Zn concentration in excreta in broilers. 2. Two experiments were carried out using 160 and 80 1-day-old chicks. Broilers received diets with increased Zn contents of 20 to 190 mg/kg. In experiment 1, two sources of zinc methionine were compared to zinc sulphate. 3. A dietary Zn concentration of 45 mg/kg was sufficient to obtain normal broiler performance at 21 d of age. 4. Tibia and plasma Zn concentrations increased linearly with Zn dietary content and reached a plateau at 75 mg/kg, whereas the whole body Zn was saturated when the dietary Zn content was 90 mg/kg. 5. Antibody titres in response to SRBC injection and plasma alkaline phosphatase activity were not affected by dietary zinc concentration. 6. When the dietary Zn content was decreased from 190 to 65 mg/kg, body Zn retention was increased from 8% to 20% and Zn concentration in broiler manure was reduced by 75%. 7. Zn sources had no effect on the parameters measured in this study. 8. A nutritional approach, that is by lowering dietary Zn supplementation may reduce the risks of phytotoxicity in the soil resulting from excessive Zn concentration in manure.  相似文献

1. The effect of L-carnitine supplemented into experimental diets with varying dietary protein concentrations (50, 200 and 400 g/kg) on body weight gain and plasma insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) concentration in chicks was examined. 2. Dietary L-carnitine supplementation provided 0, 200, 500 and 1000 mg/kg. Chicks were given the diet ad libitum for 10 d. 3. When L-carnitine was provided as 500 or 1000 mg/kg, body weight gain was significantly improved in birds receiving the 200 and 400 g protein/kg diets. 4. There was an interaction between dietary L-carnitine and protein content on plasma IGF-I concentration. L-carnitine supplementation had little influence on plasma IGF-I concentrations in birds receiving the low protein (50 g/kg) diet. When dietary L-carnitine concentrations were increased from 0 to 1000 mg/kg in the adequate protein (200 g/kg) diet, plasma IGF-I concentrations were also increased. However, when dietary L-carnitine content was more than 500 mg/kg in the 400 g/kg protein group, plasma IGF-I concentration decreased with increasing dietary L-carnitine content. 5. Body weight change correlated significantly with the alteration in plasma IGF-I concentrations in chicks given diets with adequate dietary protein. 6. In conclusion, the improvement in body weight gain caused by dietary L-carnitine supplementation was achieved when chicks were given their dietary protein requirement, which may be partially explained by an increase in plasma IGF-I concentration.  相似文献

1.?The objective was to evaluate the effects of brooding temperature on intestinal development, oxidative organ damage, and performance of chicks acclimated to high temperature during incubation. The effects of acclimation and brooding temperatures on slaughter weights of broilers under heat stress were also investigated.

2.?Eggs were incubated at either 37?8°C (INCCont) or heat-acclimated at 39?5°C for 6 h daily from d 10 to d 18 of incubation (INCH). Brooding temperatures at floor level were set at 32, 33?5 and 35°C (Bt32, Bt33?5, Bt35, respectively) for the first 5 d. The temperature was reduced gradually to 30°C from d 6 to d 10. From 21 to 42 d, broilers from INCCont Bt32 and INCH Bt32 and Bt35 were divided into two groups; half from each group was exposed to daily cyclic higher ambient temperatures, while the other half was reared at control temperature.

3.?INCH chicks had lower jejunum, but greater liver and residual yolk sac weights than INCCont chicks on the day of hatching. Although INCH chicks from Bt33?5 and Bt35 had lighter body weights than Bt32 on d 5, no significant differences were observed in the body weight of broilers among treatments at 10 and 21 d.

4.?Similar jejunum protein, alkaline phosphatase, maltase, glutathione, and malondialdehyde contents of chicks from INCCont and INCH suggested that heat acclimation during incubation has no effect on jejunum enzyme activity or oxidative status of chicks.

5.?Taking into account INCH Bt35 chicks having lower T3 levels on d 5, lower heterophil/lymphocyte (H/L) ratios and similar weights at 42 d under heat stress compared with control broilers, the results suggested that although higher brooding temperatures had no effect on body weights of INCH chicks during the brooding period, those broilers may able to cope better with heat stress.  相似文献

1. Hubbard x Hubbard (HH) and Shaver x Shaver (SS) chicks given a dietary supplement of either 50 mg/kg oxytetracycline (OTC) or 1 g/kg Lactobacillus culture (LC) were exposed to 36 +/- 1 degrees C for 3 h daily from day (d) 21 to 42. 2. Prior to heat treatment, body weight (d 21) and weight gain (d 1 to d 21) of OTC and LC birds were greater than those fed the control diet. Chicks given LC had the best food efficiency followed by OTC and control birds during d 1 to d 21. Body weight (d 1 and d 21) and weight gain (d 1 to d 21) were greater for HH tlhan SS chicks. 3. After 3 weeks of heat exposure, birds receiving the LC diet had greater body weight and weight gain, higher food intake and lower food efficiency than OTC and control chicks. 4. Antibody production against Newcastle discase vaccine on d 21 was not affected by strain or diet. On d 42, while diet had negligible effect on this variable among the SS broilers, HH birds fed LC had higher antibody production than those on the control diet. 5. Neither strain nor diet had a significant effect on mortality.  相似文献

1. The aim of this study was to investigate if genetic predisposition to ascites interacts with changed incubation conditions, and how this might affect the post-hatch performance and ascites susceptibility. 2. An ascites sensitive (A) and resistant (E) broiler line were incubated under standard or high CO(2) conditions (up to 4%) from embryonic d 10 onwards. After hatch, chicks were exposed to cold from the 15th day of the rearing period to increase the incidence of ascites. 3. The A line had a higher post-hatch body weight from week three, higher blood pCO(2) from d 21, higher haematocrit at d 35 and d 42, and higher plasma corticosterone concentration from d 21 onwards, compared with the E line, regardless of incubation conditions, supporting the given selection criteria. Ascites mortality did not, however, differ between lines. 4. Incubation under high CO(2) conditions during the second half of incubation increased the ascites mortality, decreased body weight from week 4 onwards, affected venous blood pCO(2), decreased blood pO(2) from d 31, increased haematocrit at d 35 and d 42, and lowered the thyroxine and triiodothyronine concentrations at most sampling days. These effects were observed in both lines. The results suggested a metabolic programming of CO(2) incubated chickens which affected ascites susceptibility.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of organic acids or probiotics alone or in combination on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, enzyme activity, intestinal morphology and gut microflora in broiler chickens (Ross308). A completely randomized design was used, with 1,440 broiler chicks across four treatments and five replications of 72 chicks each. The chicks in the control treatment were fed on a control diet (CD), whereas for the other treatment groups, the CD was supplemented with 0.2 g/kg organic acids (CDOA), probiotics (CDP) or a combination of organic acids and probiotics (CDOAP). All the chicks were fed ad libitum during the feeding trial throughout 35 days. A total of 20 chicks were randomly allotted to individual metabolic cages to measure the nutrient digestibility (35–42 days) and the digestive enzyme activities (42 days). The intestinal morphology and gut microflora of 80 chicks were examined at the end of experiment. There were no significant (p > .05) differences in the feed intake, body weight gain or feed conversion ratio of the chicks across the four dietary treatments. The crude fibre digestibility was significantly increased in chicks fed on CDOA or CDOAP relative to CD (p < .05). Nutrient utilization, in terms of digestive enzyme activities and excreta thermal property, was unchanged by any supplementation. The chicks fed on the CDOAP had significantly higher duodenal villi height and crypt depth than the chicks fed on CDOA (p < .05). This dietary treatment dramatically improved gut microflora by decreasing the population of Escherichia coli and increasing the Lactobacillus spp.:E. coli ratio. Based on our investigations, supplementation of organic acids and probiotics in chick diets can increase the ability to digest crude fibre and villus height and decrease intestinal E. coli without impairing growth performance.  相似文献

To survive, the newborn lamb must be able to maintain body temperature and to stand and move to the udder to suck colostrum to fuel heat production. The objective of this study was to investigate whether neonatal lambs showing slow behavioral progress to standing and sucking also have an impaired ability to maintain body temperature. The time taken to stand and suck after birth, rectal temperatures, and blood samples were collected from 115 newborn single, twin, and triplet lambs of 2 breeds, Scottish Blackface and Suffolk, which are known to show variations in their neonatal behavioral progress. Blood samples were assayed for thyroid hormones, known to be involved in heat production, and cortisol, which plays a role in tissue maturation before birth. In addition, colostrum samples were collected from the 56 ewes that gave birth to the lambs, and assayed for protein, fat, and vitamin contents. Heavy lambs (more than 1 SD above the breed mean), Blackface lambs, and singleton or twin lambs were quicker to stand and suck from their mothers than lightweight (more than 1 SD below the breed mean), Suffolk, or triplet lambs. Low birth weight lambs also had lower rectal temperatures than heavier lambs (P < 0.01), as did Suffolk compared with Blackface lambs (P < 0.001). Lambs that were slow to suck after birth had lower rectal temperatures than quick lambs, and this difference persisted for at least 3 d after birth. Within breed, heavy lambs had greater plasma triiodothyronine and thyroxine immediately after birth than light lambs. Blackface lambs had greater plasma triiodothyronine and thyroxine than Suffolk lambs but tended to have less cortisol. Colostrum produced by Blackface ewes had a greater fat content than that of Suffolk ewes (P < 0.001). Thus, lambs that are behaviorally slow at birth are also less able to maintain their body temperature after birth. Although part of their lower body temperature might be attributable to behavioral influences on thermoregulation, the data also suggest that physiological differences exist between these animals. Consumption of endophyte-infected tall fescue during summer months can result in severe hyperthermia in cattle. Six heifers (296+/-8.3 kg BW) were used to determine changes in body temperature control that occur with consumption of an endophyte-infected tall fescue diet during controlled heat challenge. All animals were exposed in five separate periods to a step increase in ambient temperature (Ta) from 21 to 31 degrees C while fed E+ (5 microg ergovaline x kg(-1) x d(-1)) or endophyte-free (E-) diets. Core body temperature (Tcore) was monitored continuously using implanted, telemetric temperature transmitters. Heat production and heat loss were also measured at selected times to identify primary effects of E+ on thermal balance. Pretreatment Tcore exhibited a diurnal rhythm at a constant Ta of 21 degrees C, with high and low values at 2300 and 1300, respectively. An increase in daily averaged Tcore (P < 0.001) occurred with an increase in Ta from 21 to 31 degrees C. Likewise, all phases of the daily cycle increased equally during this challenge. This increase at 31 degrees C was associated with higher levels of respiration rate, skin temperature, respiratory vaporization, and skin vaporization (P < 0.05) and lower blood levels of thyroxine (P < 0.05). Intake of the E+ diet further elevated Tcore in heifers during the short-term heat challenge (2 d), and the effect was most pronounced at 0000 to 0300 and declined thereafter. The increase in Tcore during E+ treatment was associated with an increase in respiration rate (P < 0.05), whereas metabolic heat production, skin temperature, skin vaporization and respiratory vaporization were unaffected. These results show that consumption of an E+ diet during continuous heat challenge results in a marked increase in core body temperature, especially during nighttime exposure to heat stress, due primarily to a reduction in cutaneous heat transfer, with no effect on heat production or other measured avenues of heat loss.  相似文献

An experiment was undertaken to determine if dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) influences the early stage of the inflammatory response caused by a single injection of Salmonella enteritidisi lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in male broiler chicks. Chicks (7 days old) were fed either 0 or 10 g CLA/kg in their diet for 21 days. At 28 days old, birds were injected intraperitoneally with 1.5 mg LPS/kg body weight after 12 h fasting. Changes in feed intake, rectal temperature and plasma α‐1 acid glycoprotein and ceruloplasmin concentrations were measured during 24 h after LPS injection. Chicks fed the CLA diet were fed more feed for 24 h, had a lower rectal temperature at 9 and 24 h and a lower plasma α‐1 acid glycoprotein concentration at 24 h after LPS injection than chicks fed the basal diet. Plasma ceruloplasmin concentration tended to be lower in chicks fed the CLA diet than in chicks fed the basal diet. The results suggest that dietary CLA alleviate undesirable early inflammatory response due to LPS injection in male broiler chicks.  相似文献

1. Changes in plasma alpha1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) concentration and immune responses following Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection were studied in broiler chickens. 2. Higher plasma AGP concentrations were observed from 12 to 48 h after a single injection of LPS. 3. The highest concentration of plasma AGP was observed on day 2 followed by a gradual decrease in chicks injected with 150 mug/kg body weight of LPS every day for 13 d. 4. Plasma AGP concentration in chicks injected daily with LPS at 900 mug/kg body weight for 13 d increased on day 2, and decreased on day 4 to the concentration found before the injection. The concentration increased again on day 10. 5. Changes in plasma interleukin-1 (IL-1) like activity were similar to those in plasma AGP concentration when LPS was injected daily at 900 mug/kg body weight for 3 d. 6. Responses of blood mononuclear cell (MNC) proliferation to mitogen or concanavalin A, (Con A), and pokeweed mitogen (PWM) were positively correlated with changes in plasma AGP concentration. 7. The results suggest that plasma AGP concentration could be used as a positive indicator of changes in blood MNC proliferation to a mitogen and in plasma IL-1 like activity.  相似文献

1. This study investigated effects of conditioning at 5 d of age and food restriction during a hot period on responses to prolonged heat stress of two fast (G1 and G2) and one slower-growing (G3) broiler stocks. 2. Chicks from each stock were divided into 3 groups: control, conditioned (chicks exposed to 36 degrees C for 24 h at 5 d of age) and food restricted (during the heat stress food was withdrawn 2 h before the hot period and chicks were fed between 17.00 and 08.00 h). Prolonged heat stress was induced daily from 28 to 49 d by heating until the ambient temperature reached 32 degrees to 35 degrees C between 10.00 and 17.00 h. 3. Body weights, mortality and rectal temperatures were lower and food conversion higher for stock G3 than G1 or G2. 4. Management procedures used in this study improved food conversion and lowered mortality without affecting body weight. Rectal temperatures of the treated groups were similar to those of the controls.  相似文献

Adherence of salmonellae to the mucosa of the cecum was demonstrated using scanning electron microscopy. In the absence of other microflora, adherence was also shown at all other levels of the alimentary tract tested. Comparative development of native gut microflora in the ceca was also investigated in chicks treated with selected fecal microflora and in untreated chicks using scanning electron microscopy. In the treated chicks, there was early colonization by adherent bacteria interconnected with fibers, forming a mat of microflora. This mat of microflora may be responsible for preventing colonization of salmonellae in the ceca.  相似文献

本试验旨在研究短期添加高水平亚麻籽对奶牛生产性能、牛奶脂肪酸组成和瘤胃发酵的影响。选取健康、体重相近的荷斯坦牛奶牛30头,随机分为3组,每组10头。分别饲喂牧场基础饲粮(CK组)、添加3 000 g/d (13.01% DM)完整亚麻籽饲粮(WF组)和添加3 000 g/d (13.01% DM)粉碎亚麻籽饲粮(GF组)。试验周期为7周,第1周为环境适应期,第2~6周为饲粮适应期,第7周为试验期,记录试验期日采食量和产奶量,于试验最后1天采集奶样和瘤胃液样品,利用气相色谱-质谱联用(GC-MS)测定乳和瘤胃液中脂肪酸组成。结果表明:①与CK组相比,添加3 000 g/d亚麻籽对奶牛干物质采食量和产奶量均无显著影响(P>0.05),GF组乳脂率和乳蛋白率较CK组有降低的趋势(0.05<P<0.1)。②WF和GF组乳中α-亚麻酸(ALA)和ω-3多不饱和脂肪酸(ω-3 PUFA)的产量较CK组均显著提高(P<0.05),且GF组ALA和ω-3 PUFA的产量显著高于WF组(P<0.05)。③WF组瘤胃pH显著低于CK和GF组(P<0.05),氨态氮(NH3-N)浓度显著高于CK和GF组(P<0.05)。综上所述,饲粮中短期添加高水平完整亚麻籽和粉碎亚麻籽均不影响奶牛干物质采食量和产奶量,但提高了乳中ALA含量,GF组提高效果较WF组更明显。添加高水平粉碎亚麻籽有降低乳蛋白率和乳脂率的趋势,高水平完整亚麻籽影响了奶牛瘤胃内环境。在实际生产中,应控制亚麻籽的添加量及其饲喂形式,在提高乳中ALA含量的同时,减少亚麻籽对瘤胃发酵的影响。  相似文献
