ABSTRACT This study seeks to (1) identify the most productive source for current awareness information for the faculty and graduate students in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Arkansas, (2) identify the update frequency and, hence, currency of information, and (3) identify effectiveness in retrieval. It is also hoped that this research will provide evidenced-based information for subscribing to a particular current awareness database for University of Arkansas food science and technology patrons and will allow us to direct patrons in this subject area to the best and most relevant resource for their current information needs. This paper reports the results of our evaluation of four current awareness sources on three search interfaces. These include Article 1st (First Search); Ingenta Connect; ISI Current Contents: Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences (ABES); and ISI Current Contents: Life Sciences (LS). A listing of journals cited by faculty and graduate students in the Department of Food Science at the University of Arkansas for the period 1987–2003 was used to check against these databases. The extent of coverage of the journals and timeliness of update were used as criteria for the evaluation. The characteristics of the three interfaces are highlighted with respect to their effectiveness in providing a current awareness service. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This study mapped the scholarly literature in the discipline of food science using co-citation analysis and explored the relationships found within this literature. Using the Journal of Food Science, an examination of a random sample of its articles published from 2000 to 2002 yielded a ranked list of frequently-cited journals. The top thirteen most frequently-cited journals formed a core set for further analysis. Using the SciSearch online database and a standard statistical package (SPSS), a two-dimensional map was created, relationships between the journals were studied, and the discipline of food science was explored. Food science journals tended to be either industry-specific (e.g., dairy science) or industry-general. The journals also tended to focus on either “pure” science (e.g., chemistry) or on applied science and technology. Of the thirteen journals mapped, six fell within the area of pure science, while four were in the area of applied science. Interestingly, three journals fell on the axis line dividing the two. At the same time, seven journals had the characteristics of being industry-general, while six were more industry-specific. The results are consistent with previous indications of the interdisciplinary nature of the field of food science, drawing as it does from many fields such as chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and agricultural science. 相似文献

Facilitating access to journals for a multidisciplinary field of study requires an understanding of the literature used by those researchers. This study examines the journals used for publication and those cited by 85 faculty affiliates of the New Mexico State University (NMSU) Water Science and Education Center (WSEC), a multidisciplinary faculty group with a water research focus. The authors have used information gained from this study to enhance collections and outreach at NMSU. This study also adds to the literature on citation analysis as a tool for informing collection development and management. 相似文献

The effects of climate change are largely felt by smallholder farmers in southern Africa who rely on rain-fed agricultural production. This study used data from a cross-sectional household to investigate the factors that influence a household's adaptive capacity. Results show that there is a positive and statistically significant correlation between receiving information on crop production (p <.01), access to early warning information (p <.01 and adaptive capacity. Without adaptation, it is impossible for smallholder farmers to enhance food security. The study recommends that there is need to improve farmers' knowledge of climate change adaptation technologies and access to early warning information. 相似文献

为深入了解土壤环境中多环芳烃研究的全球状况和前沿动态,客观反映相关国家、机构和个人在该领域的科学能力和影响,采用ISI Web of Knowledge的Web of Science引文数据库,对1900―2014年间该库收录的土壤环境中多环芳烃研究领域的相关文献进行了计量分析。结果表明,该领域全球发文量总体呈持续快速上升趋势,美国的发文量、总被引频次和H指数均居榜首,中国的发文量和总被引频次居次席,但篇均被引频次明显偏低;中国科学院和英国兰卡斯特大学的发文量和H指数居研究机构的前两位,篇均被引频次排名最高的研究机构是美国马萨诸塞大学;英国兰卡斯特大学的Jones K C等两位学者发文量和H指数最高,北达克科特大学Hawthorne S B的篇均被引频次最高,国内学者中北京大学的陶澍和浙江大学的朱利中最有影响力;该领域的主要期刊有Environmental Science & Technology、Chemosphere和Environmental Pollution等;该领域的研究热点多集中于土壤环境中多环芳烃的降解及生物修复、多环芳烃在各介质中的溶解与吸附、以及多环芳烃的源解析等方向,“中国”相关研究在近5年中占重要地位。 相似文献

为明确甜瓜不同部位24种矿物元素的分布特征及其相关性,本研究以新疆甜瓜为试材,采用电感耦合等离子体质谱(ICP-MS)测定Cu、Ni、Cr、As、Pb、Cd、Fe、Al、Zn、B、Mn、Sr等24种矿物质元素含量,并分析甜瓜中重金属与其他矿物质元素分布特征及其内在相关性。结果表明,甜瓜中矿物元素含量在瓜皮上的富集大于瓜肉中的富集,重金属与微量元素在甜瓜瓜皮与瓜肉的分布表现为两端含量高,越靠近中间含量越低。常量元素在瓜皮的分布表现为两端含量高,越靠近中间含量越低,而在瓜肉中表现为两端含量低,越靠近中间含量越高。多元相关性分析热感图结果表明,Ni与Mo、Cr与Na、As与Na呈中度负相关,其他V、K、P等元素均与重金属元素呈正相关。研究表明,甜瓜不同部位矿物元素富集水平不同,部分元素与重金属的富集具有协同或拮抗作用,后续可通过调控相关元素降低甜瓜重金属富集水平提高甜瓜安全性。 相似文献

The Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative, administered by USDA-NIFA, is the major federal funder of organic agricultural research. Analysis of 733 publications produced during the initiative’s first five years explored the dissemination of this research, and accessibility to and preservation of the publications. Publications associated with conferences (e.g., abstracts) were most numerous (36%). Many publications (69%) were openly accessible online in 2017 but fewer than 10% of these appeared in a stable digital repository. In four of the eight publication categories, access disappeared over time. No program exists to systematically collect and preserve these outputs of organic agricultural research. 相似文献

退耕还林政策与粮食问题始终存在着一个协调的问题。政策目标是即能顺利推进退耕还林工程又能使得退耕农户粮食生产有较大的改善、人均粮食拥有量能满足其温饱需求。通过对原州区的调查分析可以得出:退耕还林工程实施后,粮食的播种面积有了较大幅度的下降、单产有了较大幅度的提高、粮食生产模式也发生了一定的变化;同时工程实施过程中对于退耕户口粮田考虑的不足,退耕农户对于政府补贴的依靠性太强。当政府补贴在5~8年后停止,一半左右的退耕户会选择复耕,这就要求地方政府必须大力发展、扶持后续产业,使农户的温饱问题不仅依赖于土地,而且依赖于其他非农产业。 相似文献

本文以黑龙江省抚远市为例,基于近年土地质量地球化学调查资料成果,采用地统计分析和GIS分析等相结合,揭示研究区黑土表层土壤中N、P、K、Ca、Mg等13项养分元素及土壤有机质的含量和分布特征及在不同土壤类型分布区含量特征,统计得出表层土壤养分元素背景值,并依据相关标准对各养分元素指标丰缺现状进行评价。研究结果表明,抚远地区表层土壤中有机质含量富足,N、P含量较丰富,K元素适中,Ca、Mg、B、Zn较缺乏,S、Fe、Mn、Cu元素含量分异较大,且等级中等以上均大于60%;土壤养分地球化学综合评价表明,该地区土壤养分丰富-较丰富约占77.1%,较缺乏区仅占1.2%,土壤肥力良好,可为该区现代农业发展和黑土地保护利用提供参考资料。 相似文献

基于AHP和GIS的省级耕地质量评价研究——以吉林省为例 总被引:19,自引:1,他引:19
传统的耕地质量评价方法有评价范围小、周期长、时效性差、耗费大量的人力物力等特点。本文以吉林省为例,探讨基于GIS空间分析技术、层次分析法(AHP)和遥感数据的省级耕地质量评价理论框架体系,通过提取各项评价指标信息,进行空间权重叠加,获得最小评价单元,最后将耕地质量划分为5个等级,其中一二三级分别占18.87%,28.67%和33.15%。其研究结果表明,吉林省耕地质量空间分布有一定的规律性,中部耕地质量等级高于东西部,西部整体上好于东部。各县市的分布特点与其耕地质量分布具有较强的一致性,其结果验证了使用遥感数据评价耕地质量的适用性。该方法克服了传统耕地质量评价的局限性,基于层次分析和GIS空间分析的方法简单快速,时效性强,适用于省级耕地质量评价。 相似文献
