对25头驴、骡进行血气分析,结果表明:驴、骡血液pH,Po_2,O_2ST,HCO,Tco_2,BE_b,SBc,BE_(ecf)在二者之间无显著差异性(P>0.05);驴血液Pco_2,和乳酸皆高于骡(P<0.01和P<0.05);驴、骡的血液pH为7.41±0.03,Po_2为4.97±0.97kPa,Pco_2为5.20±0.39kPa,O_2ST为71.29±9.25%,HCO_3为25.94±1.68mmol/L,Tco_2为27.15±1.73mmol/L,BE_b为1.96±1.71mmol/L,SBc为25.68±1.31mmol/L,BE_(ecf)为1.23±1.89mmol/L,乳酸含量为1.68±0.63mmol/L。 相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the electroencephalographic (EEG) response of equidae to a castration stimulus. Study 1 included 11 mules (2½–8 years; 230–315 kg) and 11 horses (1½–3½ years; 315–480 kg); study 2 included four ponies (15–17 months; 176–229 kg). They were castrated under halothane anesthesia after acepromazine premedication (IV [study 1] and intramuscular [study 2]) and thiopental anesthetic induction. Animals were castrated using a semiclosed technique (study 1) and a closed technique (study 2). Raw EEG data were analyzed and the EEG variables, median frequency (F50), total power (Ptot), and spectral edge frequency (F95), were derived using standard techniques at skin incision (skin) and emasculation (emasc) time points. Baseline values of F50, Ptot, and F95 for each animal were used to calculate percentage change from baseline at skin incision and emasculation. Differences were observed in Ptot and F50 data between hemispheres in horses but not mules (study 1) and in one pony (study 2). A response to castration (>10% change relative to baseline) was observed in eight horses (73% of animals) and four mules (36% of animals) for F50 and nine horses (82%) and four mules (36%) for Ptot. No changes in F95 data were observed in any animal in study 1. Responses to castration were observed in three ponies (75% of animals) for F50, one pony (25%) for F95, and all ponies for Ptot. Alteration of acepromazine administration and castration technique produced a protocol that identified changes in EEG frequency and power in response to castration. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine a satisfactory combination of guaifenesin, ketamine, and xylazine (GKX) that would produce safe and satisfactory total intravenous anesthesia in donkeys for use under field conditions. Donkeys require higher amounts of ketamine in GKX to achieve satisfactory anesthetic levels without producing excessive depression with guaifenesin. Five adult standard donkeys (average weight, 264 kg) were anesthetized with 1.5 mg/mL ketamine, 0.5 mg/mL xylazine, 50 mg/mL guaifenesin (GKX-1); 2.0 mg/mL ketamine, 0.5 mg/mL xylazine, 50 mg/mL guaifenesin (GKX-2); or 2.0 mg/mL ketamine, 0.75 mg/mL xylazine, 50 mg/mL guaifenesin (GKX-3). For the first trial, two donkeys received GKX-1, two received GKX-2, and one received GKX-3. One donkey received GKX-1, one received GKX-2, and three received GKX-3 for the second trial. In the final trial, two received GKX-1, two received GKX-2, and one received GKX-3. Donkeys were sedated with xylazine (1.1 mg/kg body weight) intravenously, and anesthesia was induced using intravenous GKX-1, GKX-2, or GKX-3. Anesthesia was maintained for 45 minutes; temperature, respiration rate, heart rate, hemoglobin saturation, partial pressure of arterial oxygen (PaO2), partial pressure of carbon dioxide in arterial gas (PaCO2), and pH were measured. There was no significant difference between combinations for temperature, respiration rate, heart rate, hemoglobin saturation, PaCO2, or pH. At 30 and 45 minutes, GKX-3 produced significantly (P < .05) lower PaO2 values than GKX-1 and GKX-2. GKX-3 is not recommended for field use in donkeys because of respiratory depression (PaO2= 48.7 [±5.84] and 46.0 ± 3.11 mmHg at 30 and 45 minutes, respectively), whereas more voluntary movement was apparent with GKX-1. GKX-2 produced satisfactory anesthesia without significant respiratory depression in donkeys and should produce safe and effective anesthesia in donkeys under field conditions. 相似文献

Theileriosis is an important disease of economic significance which badly affects the equine husbandry of developing countries. The present study was planned to investigate the molecular prevalence of theileriosis, associated risk factors, and alterations in hematological parameters of donkeys and mules from district Mianwali, Punjab, Pakistan. Blood samples from 150 equids (n = 75 donkeys; n = 75 mules) were examined microscopically, and the genomic DNA from each sample was processed for the amplification of the 18S rRNA gene of Theileria. The polymerase chain reaction confirmed isolates were purified followed by sequencing. The data regarding the analysis of risk factors were collected in a predesigned questionnaire and statistically analyzed by logistic regression analysis. An overall prevalence of 17.33% was noted in this study. Donkeys showed more prevalence followed by mules being 20.0% and 14.7%, respectively. The study isolates showed high resemblance (99%) with isolates from the United States of America, Spain, Brazil, Israel, Cuba, France, South Africa, Korea, Turkey, Tunisia, India, E. Caribbean, and Nigeria. The potential risk factors found to be significantly associated (P < .05) with disease dynamics were tick infestation on study animals, previous tick history, and house hygiene. A significant (P < .05) decrease in the number of platelets, erythrocytes, hemoglobin level, and packed cell volume was observed in donkeys and mules suffering from theileriosis compared with the healthy ones. The study is the first report regarding the molecular characterization of theileriosis in donkeys and mules in Pakistan. The findings will be effectual in designing effective control strategies for this disease in Punjab, Pakistan. 相似文献

We examined 872 equids (445 maintained by low-income individuals and 427 maintained on nine designated equine farms) and, using previously described methods for bacteria, isolated Salmonella from fecal samples of 59 (6.77%) animals. Of the 646 horses, 183 donkeys, and 43 mules that had feces cultured for Salmonella, 42 (6.5%), 7 (3.8%), and 10 (23.3%), respectively, were excreting Salmonella strains in feces. Six horse mares were excreting Salmonella enterica of two different serovars simultaneously. A total of 65 Salmonella enterica isolates belonged to 13 serovars, namely S. paratyphi B var Java (14), S. I. 4, 5, 12, 27: r, i: 1, 5 (11), S. Drogana (8), S. Newport (7), S. Saintpaul (5), S. Lagos (4), S. Typhimurium (5), S. Kottbus (3), S. Bovismorbificans (3), S. Dumfries (2), S. Tshiongwe (1) S. Weltevreden (monophasic) (1), and S. enterica ssp salamae (1). With Salmonella-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using hisJ gene primers, 107 (12.3) fecal samples yielded a specific amplicon of 496 bp. On using PCR, prevalence of Salmonella in donkeys, horses, and mules was 4.9%, 10.8%, and 65.1%, respectively. With both methods of Salmonella detection in feces, prevalence was significantly higher in female than in male donkeys and horses. Salmonella shedding in feces was significantly higher in equids maintained by low-income people than those at designated equine farms. Almost all Salmonella isolates (63 of 65) had multiple-drug-resistance (MDR, resistance to three or more drugs). Salmonella isolates were commonly resistant to sulfamethoxazole (90.8%), tetracycline (70.8%), doxycycline (67.7%), furazolidone (66.2%), and colistin (55.4%). A few isolates had resistance to trimethoprim (3.1%), ciprofloxacin (3.1%), ceftriaxone (3.1%), ceftazidime (3.1%), cefoperazone (3.1%), chloramphenicol (4.6%), cefotaxime (6.2%), gentamicin (9.2%), ampicillin + cloxacillin (9.2%), cotrimoxazole (13.8%), kanamycin (13.8%), amoxicillin + clavulanic acid (16.9%), imipenem (16.9%), ampicillin (18.5%), amikacin (23.1%), neomycin (27.7%), nalidixic acid (33.8%), and streptomycin (36.9%). With the exception of 13 Salmonella isolates of S. Drogana (4), S. Newport (4), S. I. 4, 5, 12, 27: r, i: 1, 5 (4) and S. Kottbus (1) serovars, all had one or more than one plasmid. Molecular weight of plasmids ranged between 3 kDa and >87 kDa. One heavy plasmid (≥87 kda) was present in all the 52 plasmid-positive strains. Presence of plasmid could not be correlated with MDR in Salmonella isolates from equids. 相似文献

Reference ranges for triglycerides, insulin, cortisol, and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) are used in diagnosing hyperlipemia and pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) in the donkey. Values are currently compared to reference ranges of the horse so as to diagnose disease. Previous studies found differences between hematological, serum biochemical, and hormone values of the horse and donkey. We suspected that similar differences existed between horse and donkey triglyceride, insulin, cortisol, and ACTH levels. Blood samples were drawn from 44 healthy mammoth donkeys and 1 miniature donkey, ranging in age from 3 weeks to 21 years, and varying in sex and pregnancy status. All but one donkey scored 3 of 5, “ideal,” body condition scoring. Samples were tested for triglycerides, insulin, cortisol, and ACTH levels. A marked difference was found between horse and donkey normal values for triglycerides, insulin, and ACTH. The mean values and standard deviation in the tested population were 66.4 ± 34.2 mg/dL for triglycerides, 2.1 ± 2.05 μU/mL for insulin, and 66.7 ± 20.7 pg/mL for ACTH. The reference ranges in the horse are 14–77 mg/dL for triglycerides, 4.9–45.5 μU/mL for insulin, and 18.7 ± 6.8 pg/mL for ACTH. Cortisol levels were similar in the two species, a 4.0 ± 1.2 μg/dL for donkeys being within the reference range for the horse, 2.9–6.6 μg/dL. Values were not correlated to age. The sample size prevented us from determining any correlation according to sex or pregnancy status. Differences between horse and donkey triglyceride and ACTH values may be significant for accurately diagnosing and treating hyperlipemia and PPID, respectively, in the donkey. 相似文献

Working animals provide an essential transport resource in developing countries worldwide. Many of these animals are owned by poor people and work in harsh environments, so their welfare is a cause for concern. A protocol was developed to assess the welfare of working horses, mules and donkeys in urban and peri-urban areas, using direct observation of health and behaviour parameters. In this study, 4903 animals used for draught, pack and ridden work in Afghanistan, Egypt, India, Jordan and Pakistan were assessed between December 2002 and April 2003. The data showed that donkeys were more likely than mules or horses to demonstrate avoidance or aggressive behaviour towards an observer, while horses were most likely to make a friendly approach. Fewer than 8% of working equines had abnormal mucous membranes, ectoparasites or poor coat condition. Body lesions occurred predominantly in the areas of the breast/shoulder, withers and girth in all three species, with mules having the highest prevalence of lesions in these areas (22.5, 21.3 and 28.4%, respectively). Among horses and donkeys, the prevalence of these lesions was influenced by the type of work carried out. Lesions on the head, neck, ribs, flank and tail base were seen in less than 10% of animals. Across all three species approximately 70% of animals were thin, having a body condition score (BCS) of 2 or less on a scale of 1–5 (1, very thin; 5, very fat) and more horses were in very thin condition (BCS 1) than mules or donkeys. Over 75% of animals demonstrated limb deformities and abnormalities of gait. The results of this study are being used as the initial stage of a long-term strategy to inform priorities for welfare interventions in working equines and to establish a welfare benchmark. Subsequent stages will rank the welfare concerns identified, assess the contributing risk factors and implement specific interventions to address these risks. This study reveals the different effectiveness of xylazine in mules compared with horses. Fourteen adult mules (mean body weight ± standard deviation, 466 ± 89 kg) and six adult Haflinger horses (483 ± 39 kg) chosen from a single livestock operation in Germany received 0.6 mg of the α2-agonist xylazine administered intravenously per kilogram of body weight. Principal pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters were determined while the animals received a routine dental treatment. To objectively assess the depth of sedation, a variety of behavioral and clinical parameters were assessed and transferred to a scaled score system. Compared with the Haflinger horses, the depth of sedation in mules differed significantly between 10 and 45 minutes after xylazine administration. In the mule, sedation was good during the first 10 minutes, moderate at 15 minutes, and insufficient at 30 minutes. In the horse, sedation was excellent during the first 15 minutes, moderate at 30 minutes, and insufficient at 45 minutes. Moreover, significant (P < .05) subspecies differences in the pharmacokinetics of xylazine were detected between the mules and the horses. Data analysis followed the two-compartment model, which had a correlation with the measured data of R² = .99. Values for t1/2β (half-life during elimination), mean residence time, mean residence time(0-tz) (residence time on last measuring time point above limit of quantification), k21 (velocity constant for distribution from peripheral to central compartment), β (velocity constant during elimination), and B (relative y-intercept) varied significantly between the two subspecies. 相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate and evaluate the reversal of sedation, analgesia, ataxia, clinicophysiological findings, and hematobiochemical effects of detomidine by subsequent IV administration of tolazoline or atipamezole to improve safety and utility of detomidine in donkeys. Six mature donkeys weighing 250–300 kg and aged 4–6 years were used on three separate occasions. Each donkey received the following three treatments at the rate of one treatment per week in a randomized crossover study. The first group received 0.04 mg/kg bwt detomidine. The second group received 0.04 mg/kg bwt detomidine followed by 4.0 mg/kg bwt tolazoline. The third group received 0.04 mg/kg bwt detomidine followed by 0.4 mg/kg bwt atipamezole. Sedation, analgesia, ataxia, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and rectal temperature were recorded at 5 minutes before, then at 5, 15, 30, 60, and 90 minutes after injections. Red blood cell and white blood cell counts, Packed cell volume (%), hemoglobin, total protein, cholesterol, glucose, urea, aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase, and gamma glutamyl transferase values were determined. Detomidine induced deep sedation, complete analgesia, and significant ataxia. Pulse and respiratory rates were decreased from the base line values, although rectal temperature was within the baseline value. The alterations in hematological and hematobiochemical parameters were mild and transient. 相似文献

Analysis of Behaviors Observed During Mechanical Nociceptive Threshold Testing in Donkeys and Horses
The aims of the study were to analyze and compare behaviors in horses and donkeys observed during nociceptive threshold tests with a mechanical stimulus applied to the limb. The purpose was to identify end point behaviors suggesting the animals had perceived the stimulus to be noxious. Six male castrated horses (aged 3–4 years, weighing 415–503 kg) and eight castrated male donkeys (aged 4–9 years, weighing 152.5–170.5 kg) were studied. Video data recorded during mechanical nociceptive threshold test were analyzed by a single observer. Behaviors were classified into short-duration event behaviors and longer duration activity/state behaviors. Frequency of behaviors within a test (event behaviors) and percentage time spent during the test (activity/state behaviors) were calculated. Data were compared between horses and donkeys using Mann–Whitney tests (nonparametric data) or t-test (parametric data). Significance was taken as P < .05. Behaviors during the tests were observed which could indicate the animals perceived the stimulus as noxious. These included flattening ears back against the head, and turning the head (horses) and chewing (donkeys) although these were not consistent across both species. Foot lifts were often preceded by other behaviors which suggests that the foot lift was not purely a reflex withdrawal response. A shift in weight toward the contralateral limb was a consistent prodromal sign for an end point foot lift. 相似文献

Horses, donkeys, and mules have been important in Turkey for agriculture, transport, and the military for hundreds of years. Equids number more than 0.5 million in Turkey. Most horses are local types but emphasis is now on Thoroughbreds and Arabians for racing and competitions. New roles have not materialized for donkeys and mules that continue to perform their traditional activities. Disease control is assured mainly by public services acting within laws governing diseases and welfare. African horse sickness, glanders, dourine, equine infectious anemia, vesicular stomatitis, equine encephalomyelitis, anthrax, and rabies are notifiable diseases but none of the mainly equine diseases has been reported in Turkey for many years. Several zoonoses, including toxoplasmosis, brucellosis, listeriosis, and Rhodococcus infections, have been identified by serodiagnosis over wide areas, but animals carrying antibodies rarely exhibit clinical symptoms. Among other diseases in Turkish Equidae are piroplasmosis, respiratory infections, contagious equine metritis and equine influenza. Other viral and bacterial pathogens have been identified in isolated investigations. Internal and external parasites are a major cause of economic loss. Much research on equine diseases has been undertaken in the last decade of the 20th and first decade of the 21st centuries, perhaps because of Turkey's possible accession to the European Union and the goal to harmonize identification and control procedures and also because of the country's increasing participation in international equine events. This paper reviews animal health services and provides a bibliography of more than 100 references covering horse, donkey, and mule diseases in Turkey. 相似文献

Tramadol (T) is a centrally acting analgesic structurally related to codeine and morphine. Recently, T has been reported to be metabolized faster to inactive metabolites in goats, dogs, and horses than in cats. Clinical effectiveness of T has been questioned in species that mainly metabolize this molecule to inactive metabolites, suggesting that this drug could be not suitable as effective and safe treatment for pain as in humans. The purpose of the study is to determine the pharmacokinetics of T and its main metabolites in donkeys to evaluate its prospective use in clinical practice. The subjects were 12 male donkeys, 6 to 9 years old and weighing 300 to 380 kg. Each subject received a single dose of 2.5 mg/kg T either orally or intravenously. Plasma T, O-desmethyltramadol (M1), N-desmethyltramadol (M2), and N-,O-didesmethyltramadol (M5) concentrations were evaluated by high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Pharmacokinetic parameters in both administrations were calculated according to a non-compartmental model. After intravenous administration, T was detectable up to 10 hours, whereas M1, M2, and M5 were detectable from 15 minutes up to 6 hours. The total amount of M2 was greater than M1, which was greater than M5. The T area under the concentration/time curve (AUC), T1/2 λz (terminal half-life), and Cl/F (Clearance/F where F is the fraction of the drug absorbed) were 14,522 ± 2,554 h/ng/mL, 1.55 ± 0.74 hours, and 167 ± 22.3 mL/h/kg, respectively. After oral administration, T was detectable up to 8 hours to a lower extent than after the intravenous route. The total amount of M2 was greater than M5, which was greater than M1. The T AUC, T1/2 λz, and Cl/F were 4,624 ± 2,002 h/ng/mL, 4.22 ± 2.32 hours, and 495 ± 170 mL/h/kg, respectively. The bioavailability of the oral formulation was 11.7 ± 5.1%. In conclusion, despite the effectiveness of intravenous administration of T, oral administration did not reach the minimum plasma concentration of both M1 and parental drug reported in humans as needed to achieve analgesia in donkeys. 相似文献
