The pharmacokinetics of abamectin (ABM) following a single subcutaneous administration of 200 μg/kg was evaluated in adult fallow deer by following ABM concentration in blood plasma. A nonlinear mixed effects modelling procedure was used for pharmacokinetic analysis. The time course of ABM concentration was described by a two-compartment model with first-order absorption. Abamectin absorption in fallow deer was rapid with a peak plasma concentration of 120.7 ± 33.2 ng/mL observed at 19.1 ± 7.7 h (mean ± SD). Half-lives of the distribution and terminal phase were 17.2 and 119.3 h, respectively. Typical apparent clearance of the bioavailable fraction (CL/F) was 0.795 L/h and was independent of animal weight. Considering the obtained pharmacokinetic parameters in our study, we may assume that effective parasite control in fallow deer is obtained using the usual recommended dose of 200 μg/kg.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To measure haematological values of clinical significance for rusa deer and provide reference data for farmed animals. DESIGN: Blood samples were collected regularly from eight male rusa deer from 14 days to 27 months old. PROCEDURE: Blood samples, collected by venipuncture, were analysed within 6 hours of collection for red cell count, haemoglobin, packed cell volume, plasma glucose, white cell count and differentials. RESULTS: Haemoglobin concentrations appeared to increase with age and ranged from 6.0 to 20.9 g/dL. Packed cell volume and plasma glucose concentration did not appear to vary with age. White cell counts ranged from 6.3 to 7.0 x 10(9)/L and differential counts indicated neutrophils > lymphocytes > monocytes > eosinophils > basophils. In general, the values for packed cell volume, red cell count, mean cell volumes and mean cell haemoglobin concentrations were within ranges previously reported for captive or sedated rusa deer. CONCLUSIONS: Physical restraint and resultant stress was sufficient to generate some of the effects previously reported for physically immobilised or agitated deer. The values reported here do not differ greatly from those previously reported for rusa deer and can be used as reference values for clinically healthy young farmed male rusa deer.  相似文献

AIM: To determine the relationship between the concentrations of Cu in plasma and serum in red deer, and to compare this relationship with those previously reported in cattle and sheep.

METHODS: Paired serum and heparinised plasma samples from 114 red deer from 10 herds (n=6-20 per herd) were analysed for concentrations of Cu. Samples were collected either at slaughter (n=84; eight herds) or by jugular venepuncture (n=30; two herds). Thirty-nine of the samples taken at slaughter were from adult hinds from four herds, while other samples were taken from 10–14-month-old males, except for one herd (10 samples) where an equal number of 8–9-month-old males and females were sampled. The effect of age, gender and herd on the relationship between concentrations of Cu in plasma and serum was assessed using univariate ANOVA. The individual results for concentrations of Cu in serum were compared with those in plasma, using limits-of-agreement plotting.

RESULTS: The mean concentration of Cu in plasma was not significantly different from that of serum (0.048; 95% CI=-0.14 to 0.24 µmol/L). There was no effect of age, sex or herd on this relationship.

CONCLUSIONS: In deer, there was no significant difference between concentrations of Cu in plasma and serum regardless of age, sex or herd of origin.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In contrast to the situation in cattle and sheep, the concentration of Cu in serum can be used interchangeably with that in plasma for the estimation of concentration of Cu in blood of red deer.  相似文献

Stress responses were compared in Chinese water deer (Hydropotes inermis) exposed to different handling, management and disease factors by measuring plasma cortisol and adrenal gland weight. Healthy free-ranging deer shot as part of a management programme served as baseline controls; they had lower cortisol levels than either diseased deer or free-ranging deer that were either netted and manually restrained or anaesthetised by dart. Although darting appeared subjectively to be much less stressful to the deer than manual restraint, there was no significant difference in cortisol levels between the two groups. Hand-reared deer that were manually restrained in a similar manner to the free-ranging deer did not react behaviourally any less violently but showed significantly lower plasma cortisol levels. Adrenal glands of deer with various, mostly chronic, disease conditions weighed significantly more than those of healthy deer.  相似文献

AIMS: To measure the liveweight response of young deer to copper supplementation on a range of deer farms in the Canterbury region of the South Island, New Zealand, and relate any response to plasma copper concentration. METHODS: On each of 10 farms throughout north and mid-Canterbury, young deer (4-7 months old) were allocated by liveweight to two groups of 45-50. The deer in one group each received 5 g copper oxide wire particles (COWP) at the start of the project (March-June 2000) and a further 10 g COWP 3 months later (+Cu group), while the other group received no copper supplementation (-Cu group). Liveweight (+/-1 kg) of all deer was recorded monthly. A 10 ml blood sample was taken from a sub-sample of 10 animals in each group at the beginning of the trial and from the same animals 3 and 6 months later for measurement of plasma copper concentration. RESULTS: There was no significant effect (p=0.96) of treatment with COWP on liveweight gain (overall mean liveweight gain = 169 g/day). This result was consistent for all farms and for both periods. Mean plasma copper concentration declined from 12.5 (SD 3.4) to 10.3 (SD 3.0) micromol/l in +Cu groups, and to a significantly lower level (p<0.001) of 8.6 (SD 3.2) in -Cu groups after 3 months, at which time 38% of -Cu animals were considered hypocupraemic (<8 micromol/l). At the end of the second 3-month period there was no significant treatment effect on plasma copper concentration, which averaged 9.4 (SD 2.3) micromol/l. Of the feed samples submitted (n=46), only 17% had a copper concentration <5.0 mg/kg dry matter (DM), 13% had a molybdenum concentration >1.0 mg/kg, and 21% had a sulphur content >3.5 g/kg. CONCLUSIONS: Under the conditions of these trials, no response in liveweight gain to copper supplementation was observed despite evidence of hypocupraemia in 38% of -Cu animals, which gained weight at similar rates to those that had adequate plasma copper levels. The extent of the hypocupraemia was either not sufficiently severe, or not maintained for a long enough period to cause copper deficiency resulting in reduced liveweight gain. No other signs of copper deficiency were evident. There is scope for deer farmers to reassess the need for copper supplementation in young deer.  相似文献

Blood samples were collected from 91 rusa deer (Cervus timorensis russa), immediately after being shot, to define their mean haematological values (red cell count, white cell count, differential leucocyte count, packed cell volume, haemoglobin concentration, mean cell volume, mean cell haemoglobin, and mean cell haemoglobin concentration). Male deer had a significantly higher red cell count and haemoglobin concentration, and a lower mean cell volume and mean cell haemoglobin content, than did female deer.  相似文献

Twelve adult female red deer (Cervus elaphus) were given 250 mg of ceftiofur sodium by intramuscular injection (i.m.) and ballistic implant in a crossover design. Blood samples were taken from an in-dwelling jugular catheter prior to drug administration and at 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36, 48, and 72 h postadministration of the drug. Samples were centrifuged and plasma kept frozen at -70 degrees C until analysis for ceftiofur and active metabolites using an HPLC method. The pharmacokinetics of ceftiofur and metabolites after i.m. dosing and following ballistic implant were quite different. Absorption after i.m. injection was rapid; whereas following ballistic implant there was a lag-time until concentrations were detectable in plasma. The maximum concentration reached in plasma was higher following injection compared with ballistic implant, however the AUC calculated after ballistic implant was almost identical to the mean AUC found after i.m. dosing. The results indicate that i.m. administration of ceftiofur maintains adequate plasma levels for most susceptible bacterial pathogens for at least 12 h; therefore twice daily administration is needed in red deer. Ballistic implants produced plasma concentrations above the MIC for most bacterial pathogens from 4 to 24 h in most animals after administration; however, absorption of the drug was variable and some did not maintain effective concentrations for more than a few hours. Ceftiofur is a useful drug in red deer and twice daily i.m. administration dosing should allow treatment for susceptible bacterial pathogens.  相似文献

Reference ranges for five parameters of blood coagulation were established in clinically normal farmed fallow deer (Dama dama) and red deer (Cervus elaphus). Storage of plasma at -15 degrees C resulted in small increases in activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) for both species, and in the one stage prothrombin time (OSPT) of fallow deer, between days 1 and 30. These times were then stable between days 30 and 60. The fibrinogen levels of fallow deer plasma showed a small apparent increase over 60 days. These storage artefacts were not of sufficient magnitude to preclude the use of such plasma for diagnostic purposes although they could limit its use in research. Levels of fibrin/fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) were not affected by storage at -15 degrees C. Rabbit brain thromboplastin appeared adequate for OSPT determination in both species. The activated clotting time (ACT) is recommended as a field test for screening the intrinsic and common pathways of blood coagulation in deer.  相似文献

Three groups of farmed red deer were shot in the field, three groups were slaughtered on the farm and three groups were transported to commercial slaughterhouses. The behaviour of the animals was observed and peripheral plasma cortisol concentrations were measured immediately after slaughter and neck muscle pH was measured 24 hours after slaughter. The deer could be handled and herded without agitation when only one unhindered direction was open to them and nothing in the environment caused alarm. Shallow angled loading ramps were preferable. Deer shot in the field and deer penned without handling had low average plasma cortisol concentrations (less than 7 ng/ml) and a muscle pH less than 5.74 whereas deer which had been herded on the farm, or transported to a slaughterhouse, had high cortisol concentrations (greater than 20 ng/ml) and a muscle pH above 5.74. However, only four of 66 male deer transported to a slaughterhouse had a muscle pH above 6.0, the pH associated with dark cutting meat in red deer.  相似文献

Blood samples were taken from 78 wild and 21 farmed sika deer (Cervus nippon yesoensis) using ketamine-xylazine sedation during their excited (82 deer) and resting (17 deer) states. Red cell count (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were significantly higher and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) was lower in excited deer than in resting deer. There was no significant difference in total leukocyte count (WBC) between excited and resting wild males, while a marked increase of WBC with neutrophilia was observed in excited wild females. RBC and PCV were significantly higher and MCH was lower in excited males than in excited females. In wild deer, WBC was significantly higher in females than in males, but there was no significant difference in WBC between farmed males and females. Sex differences in the hematological parameters were not observed in fawns (10 months).  相似文献

AIM: To develop and validate a simple and sensitive method using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for quantification of articaine, and its major metabolite articainic acid, in plasma of red deer (Cervus elaphus), and to investigate the pharmacokinetics of articaine hydrochloride and articainic acid in red deer following S/C administration of articaine hydrochloride as a complete ring block around the antler pedicle.

METHODS: The LC-MS method was validated by determining linearity, sensitivity, recovery, carry-over and repeatability. Articaine hydrochloride (40?mg/mL) was administered S/C to six healthy male red deer, at a dose of 1?mL/cm of pedicle circumference, as a complete ring block around the base of each antler. Blood samples were collected at various times over the following 12 hours. Concentrations in plasma of articaine and articainic acid were quantified using the validated LC-MS method. Pharmacokinetic parameters of articaine and articainic acid were estimated using non-compartmental analysis.

RESULTS: Calibration curves were linear for both articaine and articainic acid. The limits of quantifications for articaine and articainic acid were 5 and 10?ng/mL, respectively. Extraction recoveries were >72% for articaine and >68% for articainic acid. After S/C administration as a ring block around the base of each antler, mean maximum concentrations in plasma (Cmax) of articaine were 1,013.9 (SD 510.1) ng/mL, detected at 0.17 (SD 0.00) hours, and the Cmax for articainic acid was 762.6 (SD 95.4) ng/mL at 0.50 (SD 0.00) hours. The elimination half-lives of articaine hydrochloride and articainic acid were 1.12 (SD 0.17) and 0.90 (SD 0.07) hours, respectively.

CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The LC-MS method used for the quantification of articaine and its metabolite articainic acid in the plasma of red deer was simple, accurate and sensitive. Articaine hydrochloride was rapidly absorbed, hydrolysed to its inactive metabolite articainic acid, and eliminated following S/C administration as a ring block in red deer. These favourable pharmacokinetic properties suggest that articaine hydrochloride should be tested for efficacy as a local anaesthetic in red deer for removal of velvet antlers. Further studies to evaluate the safety and residues of articaine hydrochloride and articainic acid are required before articaine can be recommended for use as a local anaesthetic for this purpose.  相似文献

Abstract

AIM: To evaluate the relationship between the concentration of elemental Cu and activity of caeruloplasmin (CP) in the plasma and serum of farmed red deer (Cervus elaphus).

METHODS: Paired serum and heparinised plasma samples taken from 142 deer from 10 herds in the North Island of New Zealand were tested for the concentration of elemental Cu and activity of CP. Additionally, liver biopsy samples were taken from 49 of the deer (all one herd). The relationship between individual results for the concentration of elemental Cu and activity of CP was examined using a segmented model, with random slope and intercept and threshold.

RESULTS: The activity of CP in plasma and that in serum were strongly correlated (R2=0.994), with a high level of agreement. The concentration of Cu and activity of CP also showed a strong association (R2>0.88 for both plasma and serum), although there were significant differences between herds, with the segmented regression model providing the best fit rather than a linear mixed model.

Using the current thresholds for elemental Cu, the relationship between the concentration of Cu and activity of CP suggested that an activity of CP of <4 IU/L indicates Cu deficiency, and that deer with an activity of CP of ≥7 IU/L have adequate Cu status.

CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between elemental Cu and CP is markedly different from the simple linear relationship previously reported for cattle. Above a threshold of 10 IU/L, the rise in elemental Cu per unit increase in activity of CP was 50% of that below 10 IU/L. This is probably because above this threshold the oxidative activity of CP per enzyme unit was greater.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The association between concentration of Cu and activity of CP was robust enough to define provisional thresholds for determining Cu status. However, the proximity of the deficiency threshold to the limit of detection of the CP test, the effect of herd on the association, and the inherent disadvantages of using an enzymatic system, mean that activity of CP should not be used routinely to estimate Cu status in deer. When assessing the Cu status of deer based on blood samples, the concentration of Cu in plasma or serum should be used.  相似文献

本试验通过研究吉林梅花鹿不同生长阶段血液生理生化指标的差异情况,旨在为梅花鹿的健康检测、疾病防治、育种等提供依据和参考。选取吉林省左家、双阳、东丰地区哺乳仔鹿93头(公37头,母56头)、育成鹿135头(公40头,母95头)、成年鹿130头(公42头,母88头),共358头,进行13项血液生理指标、19项生化指标检测。结果显示:哺乳公鹿与哺乳母鹿各项指标总体上差异不大,仅红细胞系统指标、血糖、肌酸激酶具有显著性差异(P<0.05);红细胞压积、红细胞平均体积、平均血红蛋白含量、平均血红蛋白浓度、碱性磷酸酶、乳酸脱氢酶在不同性别的育成鹿与成年鹿中差异极显著(P<0.01)。不同生长阶段公鹿天门冬氨酸氨基转移酶、前白蛋白、总胆汁酸、血糖等差异显著(P<0.05),红细胞系统、肌酸激酶、钙、无机磷、肌酐等差异极显著(P<0.01),白蛋白、淀粉酶差异不显著(P>0.05);不同生长阶段的母鹿淋巴细胞总数、红细胞总数、中性粒细胞总数差异显著(P<0.05),白细胞总数、红细胞系统指标、天门冬氨酸氨基转移酶、丙氨酸氨基转移酶、肌酸激酶、钙、无机磷等差异极显著(P<0.01),谷氨酰转肽酶、总胆汁酸、白蛋白差异不显著(P>0.05)。以上结果说明,不同生长阶段、不同性别的梅花鹿血液生理生化指标存在较大变异,部分指标的差异可能与梅花鹿生茸、性别等生物学特性有关。对上述生理生化指标的测定,获得了不同性别的梅花鹿在不同生长阶段生理生化指标的参考范围,可为梅花鹿选种育种、疾病诊断、资源开发利用提供一定的参考,也可为野生东北梅花鹿资源保护和健康评估提供依据。  相似文献

We describe the distribution of tuberculosis-like lesions (TBL) in wild boar (Sus scrofa) and red deer (Cervus elaphus) in Spain. Animals with TBL were confirmed in 84.21% of mixed populations (n=57) of red deer and wild boar and in 75% of populations of wild boar alone (n=8) in central and southern Spain (core area). The prevalence of TBL declined towards the periphery of this region. In the core area, the prevalence ranged up to 100% in local populations of wild boar (mean estate prevalence 42.51%) and up to 50% in red deer (mean estate prevalence 13.70%). We carried out exploratory statistical analyses to describe the epidemiology of TBL in both species throughout the core area. Prevalence of TBL increased with age in both species. Wild boar and red deer mean TBL prevalence at the estate level were positively associated, and lesion scores were consistently higher in wild boars than in red deer. The wild boar prevalence of TBL in wild boar did not differ between populations that were or were not cohabiting with red deer. Amongst the wild boars with TBL, 61.19% presented generalized lesions, and the proportion of generalized cases was similar between sex and age classes. In red deer, 57.14% of TBL-positive individuals presented generalized lesions, and the percentage of generalized cases increased with age class, but did not differ between the sexes. These results highlight the potential importance of wild boar and red deer in the maintenance of tuberculosis in south central Spain.  相似文献

The objective of this prospective observational cohort study in free-ranging female white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) was to compare the physiologic effects of two methods of anesthetic drug administration: hand-injection in Clover traps and remote injection by dart after ground-stalking. Six trapped and 14 darted female deer were injected with a median (minimum, maximum) of 590 microg/kg butorphanol (401, 1070 microg/kg), plus 235 microg/kg medetomidine (160, 429 microg/kg) intramuscularly. In the trap, the deer struggled when approached and were restrained for injection. Darted deer sprinted away after injection. Once immobilized, deer were transported to a veterinary hospital where blood was collected and vital signs were measured on admission. Admission data from a subset of deer in which measurements were taken within 40 min of trapping (n = 6) or darting (n = 5) were analyzed. After salpingectomy under isoflurane and while still anesthetized, another blood sample was collected from all 20 deer. Body weight and immobilization drug doses were not different between groups. On admission, most deer from both groups were hypoxemic, although the darted deer were significantly more hypoxemic. The median rectal temperature in trapped deer was higher than in darted deer, and temperatures higher than 39 degrees C only occurred in trapped deer. The median heart rate in trapped deer was more than twice that in darted deer. Trapped deer had lower median pH and base excess; in trapped deer, the median plasma lactate concentration was more than fivefold higher than in darted deer. After surgery, the median serum creatine kinase concentration was nearly 10-fold higher in trapped deer, and the median cardiac troponin I concentration was higher in trapped deer but undetectable in 10 of 14 darted deer. The white-tailed deer immobilized by hand-injection in Clover traps experienced more severe physiologic perturbations than deer remotely injected by dart after ground-stalking. These perturbations might be sufficient to cause myocardial damage.  相似文献

An outbreak of hepatogenous photosensitisation occurred in fallow deer and was diagnosed as facial eczema on the basis of liver lesions and plasma enzyme changes over 56 weeks. Clinical signs of photosensitisation were not as obvious as they are in sheep and cattle. The condition occurred over autumn and in the following spring. Six of 23 deer died or were destroyed. Concentrations of plasma total bilirubin, total bile acids and cholesterol increased, as well as the activities of aspartate transaminase, glutamic dehydrogenase, lactic dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma glutamyltransferase. Albumin:globulin ratios declined due to moderate increases in globulin and minor reductions in albumin. Many of the plasma enzyme activities did not return to normal after autumn and increased to even higher values during the spring outbreak of photosensitisation. Minor plasma biochemical changes were also detected in non-photosensitive deer in the same herd.  相似文献

Ten yearling white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) were inoculated with bluetongue virus serotype 17. Two yearling white-tailed deer were inoculated with sonicated heparinized noninfected blood and served as controls. Clinical signs of bluetongue virus infection included increased rectal temperature, erythema, facial edema, coronitis, and stomatitis. By postinoculation day (PID) 8, excessive bleeding and hematoma formation at venipuncture sites, dehydration, and diarrhea developed. At necropsy, the most consistent findings were oral lesions and widespread hemorrhage, which ranged from petechia to massive hematoma formation. Bluetongue virus caused progressive prolongation of activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time, and progressive reduction of Factors VIII and XII plasma activities beginning on PID 6. A progressive decrease in platelet numbers also developed on PID 6. Changes in platelet size were not detected. Mean thrombin time was shortened, but prolongation developed in 1 deer. Mean fibrinogen concentration and Factor V plasma activity initially increased and then decreased, but remained above preinoculation values. Factor V activity was low in a few deer. Results of screening tests for inhibitors of the intrinsic coagulation system were positive in 2 deer. High concentrations of fibrin(ogen) degradation products were first detected between PID 3 and 6. Hematologic changes included leukopenia, lymphopenia, neutrophilia, and low total plasma protein concentration. Differences in PCV, hemoglobin concentration, or RBC counts were not detected between infected and control deer. Serum total bilirubin concentration increased by PID 6, primarily because of increased unconjugated bilirubin concentration. Mild to severe increases in serum aspartate transaminase activity were accompanied by more marked increases in creatine kinase activity. The efficacy of clorsulon and of albendazole against Fascioloides magna were evaluated in 36 naturally infected white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in southern Texas. A single oral dose of clorsulon suspension (12 to 30 mg/kg of body weight; mean = 24 mg/kg) was given to each deer and killed 153 (92%) of 167 mature flukes and 4 (80%) of 5 immature flukes recovered at necropsy. A single oral dose of albendazole paste (17 to 46 mg/kg; mean = 26 mg/kg) was given to each deer and killed 148 (89%) of 167 mature flukes and 4 (67%) of 6 immature flukes recovered at necropsy. In 82 nontreated control deer, 271 live flukes were recovered; dead flukes were not recovered.  相似文献

Approximately 100 farmed male and female red deer aged three months and over were blood-sampled and haematological parameters were measured. The deer were sampled by jugular venepuncture without tranquilization. Mean values were haemoglobin (16.0 g/dl), packed cell volume (44.6%), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (35.8 g/dl), total plasma protein (66.0 g/l). fibrinogen (4.8 g/l) and white blood-cell numbers (5.80 x 10(9)/l). Differential white blood-cell counts were neutrophils (53.9%), eosinophils (4.8%), basophils (3.0%), lymphocytes (37.2%) and monocytes (1.1%). There were no significant differences in any parameter measured between sexes or between age groups three to eight months, nine to eighteen months, or older.  相似文献

Blood samples were collected from 91 rusa deer (Cervus timorensis russa), immediately after being shot. Serum mean biochemical values from shot deer are presented for blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, creatine kinase, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, total protein, albumin, calcium, and phosphorus. Mean total protein and albumin increased with age. There was an age-associated increase of gamma globulins. Mean creatine kinase activity and creatinine, albumin and phosphorus concentrations were higher in stags than in hinds. Pregnant hinds had lower mean creatine kinase activity and phosphorus and higher mean alanine aminotransferase and total protein than non-pregnant hinds. Mean calcium concentration increased when deer were agitated before bleeding.  相似文献
