本试验旨在比较分析德州驴盲结肠食糜液中纤维降解酶活性以及挥发性脂肪酸(VFA)的含量。采集9头德州驴的盲肠、腹结肠和背结肠食糜液样品,经4层纱布过滤后,通过分光光度计法测定羧甲基纤维素酶(CMCase)、微晶纤维素酶(AVI)、木聚糖纤维素酶(Xlyse)、阿魏酸酯酶(FAE)和乙酰酯酶(AE)活性,此外,使用气相色谱法测定VFA含量,每个指标3个平行。结果表明:CMCase、AVI与Xlyse活性在驴盲肠、腹结肠和背结肠食糜液中依次增加(P<0.05),而FAE活性在驴盲结肠间无显著差异(P>0.05)。驴背结肠食糜液中AE活性显著高于盲肠与腹结肠(P<0.05)。乙酸摩尔比例在驴盲肠、腹结肠和背结肠食糜液中依次显著增加(P<0.05),丙酸摩尔比例依次降低(P<0.05)。而且驴结肠食糜液中支链VFA含量显著高于盲肠(P<0.05)。综上所述,本研究明确了驴盲结肠食糜液具有较高的催化水解饲料细胞壁半纤维素与木质素分子间酯键连接的FAE和AE活性,随着驴后肠段逐渐后移,驴盲肠、腹结肠与背结肠食糜液中乙酸摩尔比例依次增加,丙酸摩尔比例依次降低。  相似文献

Myoelectric activity in 2 cows instrumented with permanent electrodes in the ileum, cecum, proximal loop of the ascending colon (PLAC), and spiral colon was analyzed after an obstruction developed in the distal small intestine. Results were compared with patterns from a group of 7 normal cows. Myoelectric activity in the ileum immediately orad to the occlusion was characterized by abolition of the migrating myoelectric complex (MMC) and a constant pattern of strong spike bursts of long duration. Cyclic activity was present in all parts of the large intestine, and propagation of phase III activity was evident from proximal to distal. A slight degree of disorganization in phase III propagation was restricted to the spiral colon. Activity cycles tended to be shorter in the cecum and PLAC of both cows with colic than in normal cows, and the intensity of spiking activity was generally lower. Changes in duration of the MMC in the spiral colon (bovine colonic MMC, bcMMC) were inconsistent, but the intensity of spiking activity tended to be lower in phases I and II of both cows compared to controls. The organization of phase III in several spindles typical of the bovine spiral colon was not disrupted, but phase IV of the bcMMC occurred only infrequently. Organized cyclic activity occurred in the large intestine of both cows despite complete disruption of the small intestinal MMC, indicating the presence of mechanisms able to initiate and regulate coordinated myoelectric patterns in the large intestine independent of the small intestine.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether changes in myoelectrical activity in the cecum and large colon of horses can be detected via multichannel electrointestinography (EIG). ANIMALS: 6 healthy mature horses. PROCEDURES: Each horse underwent 3 EIG procedures. Intestinal myoelectrical activity (cecum and large colon) was recorded during a 20-minute period following i.v. administration of physiologic saline (0.9% NaCl) solution (20 mL; baseline), erythromycin lactobionate (0.5 mg/kg), or detomidine (0.015 mg/kg); intestinal contractions were concurrently viewed via B-mode ultrasonography. By use of computer software, 8-channel EIG recordings were analyzed and the mean of the dominant frequency (a measure of the rhythmicity of gastric electrical activity) expressed in cycles per minute (cpm) was obtained. Total power (muV(2)) was calculated, and treatment effect was expressed as the power ratio (ie, treatment-associated power divided by the baseline power). RESULTS: The dominant frequency cpm values were not stable, and no significant differences between treatments were detected. Compared with the effects of saline solution treatment, detomidine significantly reduced the mean cecal and colonic power ratios. Erythromycin significantly reduced the cecal power ratio and increased the colonic power ratio, although the increase was significant in only 1 channel. Ultrasonographic findings and total power (predominantly from the long-distance electrode pairs) were significantly correlated. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In horses, EIG was useful for assessment of changes in myoelectrical activity in the cecum and large colon. Multiple electrodes should be used to cover a larger area of the intestine, and agreement between multiple channels is needed to make the analysis meaningful.  相似文献

The intestinal tract of the white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simun) was dissected. We observed a simple structure for the small intestine, duodenum, jejunum and ileum, and a well-developed large intestine, cecum, colon and rectus. The cecum consisted of a small chamber, whereas the colon was much enlarged; notably larger than that of the domesticated horse, which belongs to the same order, Perissodactyla. This suggests that in the white rhinoceros the cecum may be functionally replaced by the well-developed colon which may act as the main fermentation tank in this animal.  相似文献

I provide measurements of the gastrointestinal tract of a captive female Eulemur coronatus, obtained at necropsy, and describe its morphology. The small intestine, caecum and colon were short when compared with those of other lemur species. The ratio of intestine length to body length was low. Distinct sacculations were present in the caecum, but not in the colon. The results suggest that E. coronatus is able to digest a certain amount of structural polysaccharides as contained in plant cell wall. The main fermentation chamber seems to be the caecum. Its digestive morphology implies that E. coronatus relies on a diet higher in energy‐rich cell contents than those of other lemur species of similar body size.  相似文献

Alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes from small intestine, cecum, large colon, small colon, liver, kidney, leukocytes, and serum from ten clinically normal horses were defined by their sensitivities to L-phenylalanine, L-homoarginine, levamisole and heat, and by polyacrylamide gel disc electrophoresis. Readily identifiable isoenzymes occurred in small intestine, granulocytes, kidney, cecum, and large and small colon. By contrast, alkaline phosphatases from liver, lymphocytes, and serum could not be discriminated by this group of tests.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate duodenocecostomy in horses performed through a ventral midline laparotomy and report its influence on body weight, glucose absorption, serum components, and characteristics of jejunum, cecum, and large colon histology. Four horses were submitted to the duodenocecostomy technique through a ventral midline laparotomy with animals in dorsal recumbency under inhalation anesthesia, followed by abdominal exploration. A side-to-side anastomosis was performed between the duodenojejunal flexure and the base of the cecum with two simple continuous suture lines of the serosal and muscular layers. The size of the opening created was approximately 2 cm in diameter. The mucosa layer was not sutured. After 30 days, animals were submitted to a second laparotomy to check the patency of the duodenocaecal fistula. During both laparotomy procedures, excisional biopsies of different segments of the gastrointestinal tract were performed. Information on physical examination findings, results of hematologic and histopathologic evaluations, and oral glucose absorption test were recorded. The horses did not have significant weight loss from baseline, and absorption curve of glucose did not significantly vary from baseline. Only triglycerides had significant alterations. Histologic evaluation of jejunum, cecum, and large colon did not show alterations of intestinal structure and morphology. We concluded that the proposed technique, principally in relation to the fistula size and not suturing the mucosa layer, allowed partial or total occlusion of the fistulae without the necessity of a second surgery and avoided the permanent bypass of ingesta and weight loss.  相似文献

A 2 x 2 factorial experiment with pigs was undertaken to investigate the effect of particle size (fine and coarse) and feed processing (pelleted and nonpelleted) on morphological characteristics in the small intestine, cecum, and colon of pigs and on the adhesion of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium DT12 to the ileum in vitro. Ninety-six pigs (average BW = 33 +/- 7 kg) were fed the experimental diets. After 4 wk, 24 pigs were selected (six pigs per diet) and euthanized, and tissue samples were taken from the mid and distal small intestine, cecum, and distal colon. The effects of particle size and feed processing on villus height and crypt depth in the small intestine were minor. Feeding coarse diets increased (P = 0.05) the crypt depth in the colon. The crypt depth was 420 +/- 12 and 449 +/- 12 microm in pigs fed finely and coarsely ground feed, respectively. Pigs fed pelleted diets had a larger (P = 0.01) staining area for neutral mucins, as well as for acidic and sulfomucins on the villi of the distal small intestine than pigs fed nonpelleted diets. The area was 41, 46, and 33% larger for neutral, acidic, and sulfomucins, respectively. The mucin-staining areas of the crypts in the cecum and the colon were not affected by the experimental diets. Examination of lectin binding characteristics of the distal small intestine and the cecum did not reveal any differences between the experimental diets. Using a pig intestine organ culture model, Salmonella adhered less (P < 0.05) to the ileal tissue of pigs fed the nonpelleted diets than to those fed pelleted diets; the adherence was 60% less in these pigs. Results of this study suggest that pigs fed pelleted diets secrete mucins that are capable of binding Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium DT12 and thereby allowing for colonization. Therefore, pigs fed a nonpelleted diet are better protected against Salmonella infections than pigs fed a pelleted diet.  相似文献

The steady-state response characteristics of a pulse oximeter were evaluated on intestinal segments of seven clinically normal halothane-anesthetized horses. Arterial oxygen tension greater than 200 mm of Hg, end tidal carbon dioxide from 30 to 35 mm of Hg, and systemic mean arterial pressure greater than 70 mm of Hg were maintained throughout the recording periods. Values for percentage of pulse oximeter oxygen saturation, pulsatile blood flow, and percentage of signal strength were recorded from jejunum, ileum, cecum, left ventral colon, left dorsal colon, and descending colon. Probe placement on intestinal segments was recorded as over or not over visible subserosal or transmural vessels. There was no significant difference between median values on the basis of vessel codes for pulse oximeter oxygen saturations, pulsatile flow, and signal strength. Median values recorded for pulse oximeter oxygen saturation were 93% from jejunum and ileum and 95% from cecum, left ventral colon, left dorsal colon, and descending colon; median values for pulsatile flow were 576 from jejunum, 560 from ileum, 560 from cecum, 574 from left ventral colon, 578 from left dorsal colon, and 560 from descending colon; median values for signal strength were 50% from jejunum, 67.5% from ileum, 60% from cecum, 75% from left ventral colon, 50% from left dorsal colon, and 52.5% from descending colon. Median values obtained from each anatomic location were not significantly different for pulsatile flow or signal strength. Median pulse oximetry oxygen values recorded from jejunum and ileum were significantly lower than values obtained from other intestinal segments.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

本试验采用严格厌氧微生物学方法 ,对生长肥育猪的盲肠、结肠和直肠内容物中总厌氧菌和纤维分解菌的数量、纤维素酶活性、氨态氮和VFA含量进行了测定。结果表明 ,盲肠和直肠内容物中纤维分解菌的数量显著高于结肠(P<0.01) ;盲肠内容物中羧甲基纤维素酶活性最高 ,其次是结肠 ,直肠最低(P<0.05) ;直肠和盲肠的氨态氮浓度显著高于结肠(P<0.05) ;盲肠、结肠和直肠的总VFA含量分别为82.79、154.47和143.80mmol/L ;乙酸的摩尔百分比为盲肠>结肠>直肠 ;丙酸的摩尔百分比无明显改变 ;丁酸的摩尔百分比为盲肠<结肠<直肠(P>0.05)。本试验证明 ,饲喂玉米—豆粕型日粮的生长肥育猪后肠中存在相当数量的纤维分解菌 ,盲肠、结肠和直肠内容物中纤维分解菌的数量分别占可培养微生物区系的8.6 %、3.1 %和22.1 %。后肠微生物发酵类型为乙酸发酵型。  相似文献

This study was conducted to compare physiological characteristics between Meishan and Yorkshire piglets in their early lives. Six healthy purebred Meishan sows and Yorkshire sows with close farrowing dates were used in this research. The piglets sucked their respective sow's milk for 14 days, then they were slaughtered to collect samples of blood, pancreas, contents of stomach, jejunum, cecum, colon as well as feces for analysis of blood biochemical parameters, digestive enzymes, and volatile fatty acid(VFA). The results showed that Yorkshire piglets had higher concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) and total cholesterol(TC)(P 0.05). Gastric lipase activity was higher in Meishan piglets but Yorkshire piglets had higher lactase activity(P 0.05). The total VFA together with acetate and propionate in cecum and colon were higher in Meishan piglets than in Yorkshire piglets(P 0.05),but acetate in jejunum and ratio of acetate to propionate in colon were lower in Meishan piglets than in Yorkshire piglets(P 0.05). In conclusion, in early suckling period, significant differences exist in host metabolism and intestinal microbial metabolism between Meishan and Yorkshire piglets.  相似文献

Four dairy calves were subjected to partial bypass of the large intestine by uniting the ileum to the distal centrifugal coil of the spiral loop of the ascending colon (spiral colon). Digesta bypassed the distal ileum, cecum, proximal loop of the ascending colon, and the centripetal coils of the spiral colon. The calves survived the surgical procedure and were healthy throughout the 4-week postoperative experimental period. Feces were loose immediately after bypass, but fecal dry matter (DM) gradually increased over the subsequent 2 weeks (P < 0.01), indicating adaptation of remaining bowel to absorb more water. There was no significant change in serum concentration of sodium or chloride. The calves continued to grow and gain weight at acceptable rates after bypass. Necropsy of 3 of the calves demonstrated a decrease in size of the bypassed bowel.  相似文献

Effects of xylazine HCl (0.5 mg/kg of body weight, IV) and/or butorphanol tartrate (0.04 mg/kg, IV) or neostigmine methylsulfate (0.022 mg/kg, IV) on myoelectric activity of the cecum and right ventral colon were studied in 4 conscious female ponies. Eight bipolar Ag/AgCl electrodes were sequentially placed on the seromuscular layer of the cecum (6 electrodes) and right ventral colon (2 electrodes). Recordings began 30 minutes before and continued for 90 minutes after drug administration. Each drug or drug combination was studied on 2 occasions in each pony. Two major patterns of coordinated spike bursts were identified. A series of coordinated spike bursts began at the cecal base and was conducted to the cecal apex (pattern I). A series of coordinated spike bursts began at the cecal apex, traversed the cecum, cecocolic orifice, and right ventral colon and was termed a progressive pattern (pattern II). Xylazine administration caused a significant decrease in patterns I and II for 20 minutes (P less than 0.05). Butorphanol tartrate administration caused a significant decrease in the progressive pattern for 10 minutes (P less than 0.05) without affecting the orally directed pattern. Administration of the combination of xylazine/butorphanol significantly decreased the frequency of pattern I for 40 minutes (P less than 0.05) and pattern II for 30 minutes (P less than 0.05). Neostigmine administration caused a significant increase in the frequency of pattern II for 30 minutes (P less than 0.05) without affecting pattern I (P greater than 0.05). Changes in conduction velocity of pattern I or II or the duration of spiking activity were not significantly different because of any treatment.  相似文献

The abdominal parts of the alimentary canal and the associated arteries from seven male and nine female maras are described. The mara possesses a stomach with a single cavity and a glandular mucosa lining. The large stomach is situated caudal of the liver at right-angles to the longitudinal body axis. The long jejunum is located on the left side of the body caudal of the stomach. The cecum has two teniae and numerous haustra which are proximal larger than distal. The smooth colon ascendens runs proximal parallel to the cecum and describes distal an U-shaped double-loop. The internal surface of the proximal part of the colon ascendens is characterized by two parallel mucosal ledges. Cecum and colon ascendens lie right caudal of the liver. The colon descendens is coiled and situated on the left body side. The A. gastrica sinistra and branches of the A. lienalis and the A. hepatica supply the stomach. The A. mesenterica cranialis which branches of separately from the A. coeliaca is a large and long vessel that supplies the major parts of the small intestine and the colon. The A. mesenterica caudalis supplies parts of the colon desendens and of the rectum.  相似文献

The goblet cell (GC) and the intestinal mucus are important in preventing invasion of the mucosa by luminal microorgansisms. GC responses in the jejenum, cecum and colon of C57BL/6 mice during the course of infection with the large intestinal-tropic coccidian, Eimeria pragensis (E. pragensis), were investigated histologically. The numbers of large intestinal GCs (cecum and colon) gradually decreased (hypoplasia) in association with development of endogenous stages of parasite life cycle. The effect was transient and recovery of GC numbers was associated with resolution of coccidial infection. The jejunal GC numbers were not affected by E. pragensis infection. Clindamycin treatment in the infected mice reduced numbers of intracellular parasites and significantly increased the numbers of large intestinal GCs compared with untreated, infected mice.  相似文献

Rabbit mucoid enteritis (mucoid enteropathy) is a subacute fatal disease of weanling rabbits with unknown cause. Mucoid enteritis was experimentally produced by ligating the large intestines in rabbits. Of the rabbits with ligated cecum and those with ligated colon, 70% and 45%, respectively, had excessive production of mucus and passed large amounts of mucus with feces, closely resembling the naturally occurring mucoid enteritis. Injection of oxytetracycline into the cecum at the time of ligation prevented the development of mucoid enteritis, and injection of cholestyramine markedly reduced the frequency of the disease in the rabbits with ligated cecum.  相似文献

The cecum is a great cul-de sac intercalated between the small intestine and the colon. It has a remarkable size in the equine and digestion of more than 30% of total cellulose and production of volatile fatty acids by anaerobic metabolism of cellulose by its micro flora were made on it. It has also a substantial number of lymphatic nodules, which in horses are located near the apex. Topographically, cecum is situated chiefly to the right of the median plane and occupies around the whole volume of there in the abdominal cavity. The histological structure of the lymphatic follicles and their distributions pattern throughout the cecum in five healthy mature miniature horses (an special species of horses lives only in north of Iran) were studied (Fig. 1a). Each cecum was divided into three parts, namely, the base, body and apex, and samples were taken from each part immediately after slaughter and fixed with 10% buffered formalin. Routine histological laboratory techniques were made and 6 μm ?sections were cut and stained with haematoxylin and eosin staining and studied under light microscope. Lymphatic nodules were mostly found in the submucosa, but they disrupted the muscularis mucosa and merged into the lamina propria (Fig. 1c). The thickness of the mucosa and submucosa at these sites was smaller, and the epithelium that covered the mucosa was here modified into simple squamous or low cuboidal epithelia with dark and flattened nuclei (Figs 1b,d). The large and small lymphatic nodules were extensively accumulated in the apex, forming a nearly continuous layer in lamina propria and submucosa. However, they were less prominent at the base and least in the body of the cecum.

Highly virulent (strain 1) and weakly virulent (strain 3) Escherichia coli were examined using immunofluorescent and electron microscopic techniques to determine their ability to express type 1 pili in the intestinal tract of 3-week-old gnotobiotic turkeys. Turkeys were necropsied on postinoculation day (PID) 1, 2, 5, 8, and 12. Nonpiliated forms of strains 1 and 3 were more numerous than piliated forms in cecal and colonic contents examined by negative staining electron microscopy. A piliated form of strain 1 was seen in intestinal contents on each PID and was more numerous in cecal contents than in colonic contents. The mucus blanket of the cecum and colon contained large numbers of bacteria, although organisms were rarely intimately associated with the intestinal epithelium. Immunofluorescent staining indicated large numbers of piliated forms of strains 1 and 3 within the mucus blanket of the cecum and colon on PID 2, 5, 8, and 12. Piliated bacteria were infrequently seen in the ileal mucus blanket. Serum antibody titers to type 1 pili increased markedly by PID 5 and persisted in turkeys inoculated with strain 1. In contrast, antibody titers in turkeys exposed to strain 3 increased gradually and varied markedly among birds at each PID. Type 1 pili may not be important for adherence of pathogenic E coli to intestinal epithelium of turkeys.  相似文献

The effects of mild chronic dehydration on fermentation rate and mucosal surface area in the cecum, dorsa and ventral colon, and descending colon of the hindgut were investigated in South African donkeys (n = 11) in agricultural work. Dehydration representing a 6% drop in BW (n = 6) was associated with increased fermentation activity in the cecum (252 +/- 22.9 vs. 161 +/- 13.5 micromol/g of DM.h(-1), P < 0.01) and enhanced fluid retention in the ventral colon (0.81 +/- 0.026 vs. 0.73 +/- 0.034 mL/g gut, P < 0.05). Fermentation activity in the next segment of the hindgut, the ventral colon, of dehydrated donkeys was also greater numerically (92.5 +/- 22.60 vs. 77.9 +/- 10.40 micromol/g of DM.h(-1)), but this difference was not significant. Total mucosal and crypt surface area per unit volume of gut (Sv, microm2/microm3) was greater in dehydrated donkeys for the cecum (253 +/- 23.0 vs. 161 +/- 13.5, P < 0.01), the ventral colon (286 +/- 6.2 vs. 171 +/- 9.8, P < 0.01), the dorsal colon (276 +/- 18.2 vs. 256 +/- 11.0, P < 0.05), and the descending colon (260 +/- 20.3 vs. 191 +/- 15.2, P < 0.05). Enhanced fermentation activity and enhanced mucosal absorptive or secretory capacity within the hindgut during chronic dehydration was associated with an observed maintenance of appetite. These adaptations in the hindgut are valuable physiological attributes for working donkeys in semi-arid regions where they are frequently exposed to chronic dehydration.  相似文献
