Effects of different feeding rates (0–20% live body weight) on food intake, growth and conversion efficiency of Heteropneustes fossilis were studied using the oligochaete worm Tubifex tubifex as food. An amount of worm substance equivalent to 12.73% live body weight/fish day?1 represents the maximum amount which a 4.015 ± 0.340-g H. fossilis can consume under laboratory conditions. Geometrically derived feeding rations of 12, 40 and 130 mg/g live fish day?1 represent the maintenance, optimum and maximum levels for H. fossilis. The SDA (specific dynamic action) increased from 14 mg/g day?1 at optimum to 70 mg/g day?1 at maximum feeding rate.  相似文献

The digestion coefficients of the nutrients in the ingredients used in formulating the diet (MARDI-37%) for the culturing of jelawat were evaluated. Cr2O3 was used as an internal marker for the evaluation of digestibility. The results indicate that jelawat can digest 100% of the protein, fat, carbohydrate and gross energy in fish meal, but only 69.50% protein, 60.70% fat, 73.82% carbohydrate and 59.30% gross energy in soyabean meal. Surprisingly, this fish can digest copra cake meal, an agricultural by-product in Malaysia, better than soyabean meal; the values were 75.36% protein, 98.36% fat, 50.03% carbohydrate, and 73.21% gross energy. Digestibility of maize, rice bran and tapioca was poor in this fish. There were no significant differences in the digestibility of dry matter, protein, fat, carbohydrate, ash and gross energy of the reference diet in jelawat specimens whose total length was greater than 12 cm, whereas in fish smaller than 12 cm digestibility was significantly lower.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of two dry extruded diets on growth and nutritional composition of digestive gland (DG) and muscle of Octopus vulgaris. Both artificial diets (FMK and 3FMK) were composed of gelatin, maltodextrin, yolk, fish and krill meal. The 3FMK diet contained more fishmeal (3×) than the FMK diet. These diets were compared with a control frozen diet consisting of golden grey mullet (Liza aurata) and crab (Liocarcinus depurator). The 3FMK diet promoted higher intakes and feed efficiency than FMK diet, resulting in larger growths (296 respect to 158 g in 42 days; 0.81% vs. 0.78% body weight/day). There was significantly lower moisture, protein and ash content in digestive glands of animals fed pellets (P < 0.05). No significant differences were observed on nutritional composition of muscle among the three groups. Even though the results were still below those of the control group (increase of 1258 g), the good performance in terms of acceptance and growth showed that this extruded diet can be the starting point to develop a commercial feed for this species.  相似文献

Gross pathology in Clarias batrachus and Heteropneustes fossilis, and histopathology in the liver, intestine and kidney and abnormalities in erythrocyte count/mm3 and haemoglobin g% of C. batrachus afflicted with gas bubble disease were studied over 96 h. Histopathology and blood abnormalities in H. fossilis could not be observed due to heavy mortality. A tilt in the swimming posture and an upward bend in the tail region were the first signs of the disease. Exophthalmia was noted and blebs containing gas bubbles appeared on the fins and other parts of the body. The blebs burst producing open lesions after 72 h, and the fins became necrotic.Histopathologic changes included, in the liver, vacuolation of cells, necrosis and cordal disarray; in the intestine, lesions in the villi, degeneration of the submucosa, cellular exudate production in the lumen and air bubbles in the villi; and in the kidney, degeneration of tubules and glomeruli and necrosis of haemopoietic tissue. Erythrocyte count and haemoglobin content showed a consistent and significant fall from 12.87 × 106 to 6.91 × 106/mm3 and from 9.33 to 7.00 g%, respectively, up to 72 h. Empty blood vessels were noted in the liver, intestine and kidney. Fish of both species regained normal swimming orientation, and erythrocyte count and haemoglobin content also showed recovery from the disease.  相似文献

Six purified casein diets within a range of 21–53% crude protein were fed for 3 weeks to young tilapia (Tilapia zillii) to determine the optimum protein requirement and protein: energy ratio for growth. Growth rate increased proportionally to protein level of the diet to an incorporation rate of about 35%. Beyond this a gradual retardation in growth rate was observed. The diet containing about 30% crude protein with a protein: energy (PE) ratio of 81, however, appeared to be more efficiently utilized by the fish in terms of protein deposition and energy retention than diets with higher levels of crude protein. These results indicate that Tilapia zillii requires about 35% protein in the diet for optimum growth while 30% for the maximum bodily protein deposition when casein is used as the sole source of protein. All six diets, however, showed an excellent feed conversion. Protein efficiency ratio (PER) decreased with the increase in protein in the diet.  相似文献

Abstract. Growth and survival response of Penaeus stylirostris (Stimpson) to fertilization, pelleted feeding and stocking density were analysed for the conditions prevailing on the Baja California peninsula (Mexico). Three 0·25-ha earthen ponds were longitudinally divided in half with mesh structures. One half received inorganic fertilization (trial F) and the other supplementary feeding using a pelletized ration (trial PF). The initial stocking rates were approximately 5, 10 and 15 PL5/m2 in both trials. After 210 days, final mean weights ranged from 15·0 to 5·3g and survival from 48·6 to 17·8%. Growth and survival were analysed by means of a reparameterization of the von Bertalanffy's growth model and the exponential mortality equation. Results indicated that: (1) final mean weight was dependent on density in both trials ( P < 0·01) although growth rate was only affected in trial PF ( P < 0·01); (2) pelleted feeding produced both greater final mean weight and increased growth rate at densities higher than 5 PL/m2 ( P < 0·005); (3) the ratio tail weight/total weight was influenced by density in trial F ( P < 0·015); (4) the mortality equation served to explain differences in survival to a limited extent. An increase in growth rate after 170 days occurring at the intermediate density in trial PF was attributed to an increase in mortality, which allowed the remaining individuals to attain larger sizes. Further research to increase biomass yields should focus on the optimization of pond depth, the supply of vigorous post-larvae and on the possible influences of seasonal variations of planktonic communities of the lagoons on the productivity of ponds.  相似文献

Six groups of 0 + marron Cherax tenuimanus were reared on commercial marron diets based on two different fish meals in a study lasting 4 months. Both diets were prepared in a stable and an unstable pelleted form. Matron fed with koi carp or salmon diet and unfed were used as reference groups. Matron were reared communally in tanks (5 m−2) and individually in an intensive crayfish culture system (ICCS, 25 m−2). Marron were fed at the rate of 6.5% of their body weight per week. Groups fed with stable diets showed larger weight increment at moult, shorter intermoult period, and higher specific growth rate than groups fed with similar unstable diets. Stable matron diets resulted in faster growth than fish diets. There were no differences in hepatopancreatic indices of marron fed with stable diets or similar unstable diets in the ICCS. The condition of hepatopancreata of marron reared in communal tanks were better than those of marron reared in the ICCS on a similar diet. Results indicate that marron production can be improved using stable pelleted diets in both intensive and semi-intensive culture.  相似文献

Two duplicate groups of individually tagged lumpfish (mean initial weight: 21.5 ± 3.2 g) were fed either a commercially available lumpfish feed or feed blocks for a period of 123 days. The aim was to evaluate and compare the effects of these feed types on growth, cataract development and histopathology in lumpfish. There were significant differences in growth rates between the groups with fish fed pelleted feed having the highest growth rates. The development of cataracts was significantly different with fish fed pelleted feed having a cataract prevalence of 87% at the end of the study period whilst fish fed with feed blocks had 10% prevalence. The results of the histological examination undertaken in this study showed overall small differences between the two dietary treatments. In some individuals in groups receiving both diets, there was mild to moderate expansion of the lamina propria with tissue most likely to represent fibrous tissue with scattered leucocytes. Overall, the findings of the present study show that lumpfish will readily graze from feed blocks and although growth is lower the prevalence of cataract is greatly reduced using feed blocks.  相似文献

The growth potential of wild juvenile Penaeus stylirostris was analyzed in experimental trials using chemical and organic fertilizers and pelleted feed in 0·25 ha earthen ponds. Shrimp were stocked at a low density (1·6 ind/m2). After 103 days, final weight ranged from 9·5 to 26·0 g. The significance of differences in growth response was determined using a reparameterization of the von Bertalanffy growth curve. Maximum growth rates observed in the trials ranged from 0·06 to 0·33 g/day, averaging 0·22 g/day. Maximum rates were related to weight by the equation:
(dw/dt)max=0·034w0·69 r2=0·9,P<0·05

Pelleted feed produced best growth, chemical fertilizers were acceptable, and organic fertilizers gave poor results. The high growth potential of the species stimulates future research in order to adapt a culture technology to the semi-arid conditions of northwest México, where the species is indigenous.  相似文献

Six experimental diets were fed to rainbow trout to examine the effect of fish hydrolysate and ultra filtered fish hydrolysate on growth performance, feed utilization and growth regulation using diets low in dietary fish meal inclusion. One diet contained a high level of plant protein sources (90.6% of total dietary protein) and a low level of fish meal (9.4% of dietary protein). Two diets contained different levels of hydrolysate in exchange for the plant protein sources, reducing the plant protein level to 73.9% and 57.2%, respectively. Two further diets were identical in composition except that the hydrolysate was ultra filtered to remove low molecular weight compounds. A moderate level of fish meal was used in the sixth diet which had a dietary plant protein level of 57.0%. All diets were made equal in protein, lipid, energy and lysine. The feeding trial lasted for 90 days and for the fastest growing group, fed moderate level of fish meal, the fish increased in weight from 149 g at start to a final weight of 443 g. All groups showed significant differences in growth and feed utilizations. Specific growth rates were; 0.30% day− 1 for the plant protein diet, 0.98% day− 1 for the high hydrolysate diet, 0.72% day− 1 for the group containing the high level of ultra filtered hydrolysate, and 1.21% day− 1 for the moderate fish meal diet. Feed efficiencies (g fish weight gain per g feed intake) were found to be 0.57 for plant protein diet, 0.97 for high level of hydrolysate, 0.83 for ultra filtered hydrolysate and 1.03 for the moderate fish meal diet. Half dietary inclusions of hydrolysate and ultra filtered hydrolysate revealed values between the plant protein diets and high levels of these ingredients, respectively. Feed consumption in percentage of average fish weight per day, correlated with the feed efficiency for all groups. PER, PPV and BV correlated with the differences in growth. Protein digestibilities were equal for all groups, while the moderate fish meal diet showed higher lipid and energy digestibilities than the plant protein diets. Although some of the differences may be due to growth inhibitors in plant resources other explanations may be relevant. Plasma growth hormone (GH) levels were significantly higher in fish fed the plant protein diet than fish fed the fish meal or high hydrolysate diet, which is most likely a result of their poor feeding status. Plasma IGF-I levels were not affected by diet. Comparisons of groups with similar inclusion of plant ingredients, and thus equal level of growth inhibitors, show that in removing small molecular weight compounds from fish hydrolysate, the growth and feed efficiency were significantly reduced. Some of these small compounds in fish hydrolysate thus seem to be essential for biological performance. Further, as fish meal revealed the best performance, fish muscle protein is not the only nutrient that makes fish meal an essential ingredient in aqua feed for carnivorous fish. This information is important in the work to find replacement of fish meal in a sustainable growing global aquaculture industry.  相似文献

Atlantic cod (initial weight 55, 250 and 450 g) were deprived of feed for 1 month or fed one of two diets differing in crude protein and lipid levels at rations corresponding to about 25, 50, 75 or 130% of group satiation for two months. The fish were individually weighed at the start, mid and end of the experiment and growth variation and fin damage were registered. The fin damage patterns differed between size groups; 55 g cod had most wounds on the dorsal fins whereas the pectoral fins were the most damaged in the 250 g fish. The incidence of damage in these groups was high and increased significantly when feeding was restricted. In the 450 g cod there was little fin damage and the incidence did not seem to depend on diet treatment. In the 55 and 250 g cod groups, fast growing fish had lower incidence of fin damage than fish that grew slowly, suggesting that the fish that received most aggression were prevented from feeding. However, a similar trend was registered in non-fed fish, showing that the recipients of aggression also suffered other disadvantages. The variation in individual growth rates increased when feeding was restricted and the distribution was differently skewed depending on feeding level. The data provide evidence that competition is an important factor limiting growth of individual cod held in groups in culture.  相似文献

Three experiments were conducted with rainbow trout to determine if Geotrichum candidum GC single cell protein could replace 100, 75 or 50% of fish meal in a pelleted diet. When the fish meal was completely replaced by GC the fish growth was retarded after 3 weeks of the experiment. With the larger fish (individual weight 47–54 g) in the short trial there were significant differences between fish fed the control diet (fish meal) and those fed the 75% substitution of GC diet. The most remarkable differences in fish growth appeared in a 42-day trial with small fish (5 g individual weight) when fish groups fed diets with 0.50 and 75% replacement gave significantly different results (P < 0.05), being 93,9, 46.6 and 34.2% gain, with feed coefficients of 1.49, 2.77 and 3.67, respectively. With large fish fed diets with 0,50 and 75% GC replacement, apparent digestibility of protein was 64.7, 68.2 and 37.5%, but fat digestibility was 79.5, 91.1 and 81.0%, respectively. No significant differences in amounts of free plasma amino acid (PAA) were found between rainbow trout fed diets with 0 or 50% substitution, but there was a marked decrease in PAA in the group fed the diet with 75% GC substitution. Analysis of chosen heavy metals was made on diets, fish and faeces, and Cu in particular was found not to be accumulated in the fish body.  相似文献

Captive Lates calcarifer broodstock at Tigbauan, Iloilo (Philippines) were implanted with cholesterol-based pellets of the LHRH analogue D-Trp6-desGly10-LHRH ethylamide or D-hArg(Et2)6,Pro9-NHet-LHRH at doses between 9.0 and 23.5 μg/kg body weight. In May, one of ten LHRH-treated females released partially hydrated ova into the tank 4 days after implantation. In July, at least one (and probably four) of five LHRH-treated females spawned in the tank 2 days after implantation; 2.6 million hatchlings were collected. In August, both LHRH-treated females spawned in the tank 2 days after implantation; 978 000 hatchlings were collected. None of the sham-operated control fish spawned in any of the experiments.Captive Siganus guttatus broodstock implanted with silastic-based pellets of the LHRH analogue D-Nal (2)6 LHRH spawned 1–2 days earlier than sham-operated controls.  相似文献

The apparatus described was designed to measure the speed and direction of lobster response to feed attractants with minimal observer influence on the test animal. Lobster activity was monitored in an 84 × 10 × 10 in (213 × 25 × 25 cm) plexiglas tank based on interruption of photoelectric cells. Impulses from the photocells trigger the pens of a 6-channel event recorder. During its operation the apparatus is covered with an opaque plastic sheet. Lobster behavior was such that the animals always settled in one of the chamber ends and the test material could be injected at the far end. The lobsters responded to a variety of test materials.  相似文献

Determining an adequate macronutrient balance is essential to guarantee the production success. As protein is the limiting component for fish food, the utilization of lipids or carbohydrates as partial substitutes of this nutrient is a challenge to improve its use. In order to get an approximation of the maximum levels of utilization for carbohydrates and/or lipids and determine the most adequate macronutrient to partly replace protein as the main energy source of diets for dentex (91.7 ± 1.4 g mean weight), four experimental diets with different protein:lipid:carbohydrate percentages (43/16/28, 43/24/4, 38/19/28 and 38/24/13) were tested for 13 weeks. The results indicated the possibility of using 38% of dietary protein without affecting growth performance, under the experimental conditions. There were no differences among the four diets either in most of the nutritive utilization indicators or in the body composition and haematological parameters. The influence of dietary composition was only observed in the feed intake, being higher with more dietary carbohydrates, and the hepatosomatic index and protein efficiency ratio, showing more elevated values in diets with a higher lipid level. The dentex capacity of using both carbohydrates and lipids efficiently to obtain the necessary energy for its correct growth, as well as to compensate the energetic ‘vacuum’ caused by the dietary protein reduction, under the assayed conditions, was confirmed.  相似文献

Nutritional qualities of fish processing by‐products can further be improved through enzymatic hydrolysis. The objective of this study was to elucidate the efficacy of hydrolysed milkfish offal at different inclusion levels when fed to juvenile grouper, Epinephelus fuscoguttatus, with an initial body weight of 2.88 ± 0.06 g. The animals were fed for 56 days with seven diets supplemented with 0 (control), 5%, 15% and 25% of milkfish offal (MO) and milkfish offal hydrolysate (MOH). The diets were formulated to be isonitrogenous (45%) and isolipidic (11%). The diets were assigned to 21 tanks (15 fish per tank) with each diet having three replicates. Results from the experimental trials indicated that feed conversion efficiency, feed intake and weight gain of fish significantly (P < 0.05) improved when fed diets with MOH. No significant differences within the rest of the dietary treatments were observed. Survival rate (>90%) did not differ in all the dietary treatments. Proximate composition (crude protein, crude fat and ash) indicated no significant difference among fish fed from all the dietary treatments. Apparent digestibility of MOH indicated a 95% and 66% digestibility for protein and dry matter respectively. Plasma stress parameters (cortisol and glucose) were not influenced by the dietary treatment when fish were subjected to an acute stressor (5‐min chasing). Liver morphology indicated normal hepatocyte shape and the presence of lipid droplets in fish fed from all the dietary treatments. The results indicated that milkfish offal processed as hydrolysate can be utilized in grouper diets and can promote growth and feed efficiency when supplied at 10–15%.  相似文献

Three indigenous carp species, Catla catla (Ham.), Labeo rohita (Ham.) and Cirrhinus mrigala (Ham.), and two exotic carp species, Cyprinus carpio L. and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix (Val.), were stocked together at a total density of 6000 fish ha-1 in the ratio of 11:22:14:14:11, respectively. Three pelleted feeds, maize gluten (MG), cotton seed (CS) and fish meal (FM), were fed at 5% of the body weight of fish per day. The crude protein content of each feed was different. Growth rates for exotic species were significantly higher (P < 0.05) on all feeds than growth of indigenous species. The best growth for both exotic and indigenous carps was achieved on fish meal. Supplemental feeds made from locally available materials can enhance fish culture in Pakistan.  相似文献

Atlantic cod were fed six diets where the ratio of protein from fish meal to vegetable protein were varied from 91%, 67% to 46%, respectively. The experimental groups were performed in triplicate in a 20 week growth trial, increasing fish weight from about 167 g to 690 g. The vegetable protein sources constituted full-fat soybean meal and corn gluten meal at a fixed ratio of 1:2, and replaced either a high quality fish meal (DCMink 92.3%) or a lower quality fish meal (DCMink 85.6%) in the diet. All diets were extruded and balanced to be equal in gross energy, crude protein, lipid, carbohydrate, lysine and phosphorus. No difference in growth (SGR 1%) was observed comparing the two fish meal qualities. However, feed intake was significantly higher (9%) and feed efficiency lower (10%) for lower quality fish meal compared to high quality fish meal. Protein and amino acid digestibility was significantly reduced in the lower quality fish meal, while unaffected by vegetable protein inclusion for both fish meal qualities. Protein utilization as measured by protein efficiency ratio and net protein value was not affected by fish meal inclusion, except in the diet using lower quality fish meal and high vegetable protein inclusion. Lipid and energy digestibility was significantly reduced by vegetable protein inclusion for both fish meals. The lower fish meal quality increased lipid deposition in the liver and affected slaughter quality of cod by increasing HSI and dressing out percentage at low and intermediate substitution levels. Muscle composition showed small dietary changes except for arginine, while liver fatty acid composition clearly reflected fatty acid profile of full-fat soya in the diets. Corn gluten meal and full-fat soybean meal (2:1) can replace approximately 50% of dietary protein without affecting feed intake, growth, protein digestibility or slaughter quality of cod when exchanging high quality fish meal. For the lower quality fish meal diets some lower inclusion of vegetable protein sources seem to be acceptable.  相似文献

Juvenile green abalone, Haliotis fulgens (31.3 ± 0.1 mm, 3.7 ± 0.04 g live weight) were reared in laboratory for six months in order to determine their survival, growth, tissue composition, feed consumption (C), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) under two temperatures (20 °C and 25 °C) and three photoperiods (00:24, 12:12 and 24:00 light:dark hours). Survival was ca. 100% at 20 °C, and between 68% and 75% at 25 °C. The highest gross growth rate (109 ± 4.3 μm d− 1, 69 ± 3.9 mg d− 1) was observed in abalone from the combination 20 °C-00:24 L:D. Slowest GGR (38 ± 4.1 μm d− 1, 26 ± 1.5 mg d− 1) was observed in the combination 25 °C-24:00 L:D. Organisms from 25 °C exhibited signs of the withering syndrome at the end of the experiment. Gross energy content (4.4 to 4.6 kcal g− 1 tissue dry wt, TDW) and crude protein (60 to 68% TDW) were not significantly affected by either temperature or photoperiod, but organisms from 20 °C exhibited lower moisture content (86.8 to 88.6%) and higher tissue:shell ratio (0.34-0.40) than those from 25 °C (88.9 to 92.1%; 0.22-0.31 respectively). Feed consumption markedly increased at night, decreased with age, and was higher at 25 °C than 20 °C, irrespective of photoperiod. Highest C was observed under continuous darkness (0.66 to 0.95% BW d− 1 at 20 °C and 0.84 to 1.25% BW d− 1 at 25 °C), and was lowest under continuous light (0.50 to 0.82% BW d− 1 at 20 °C and 0.71 to 1.02% BW d− 1 at 25 °C). FCR and PER were both affected by temperature but not by photoperiod. Higher PER (2.2 to 3.4) and lower FCR values (0.69 to 1.05) were observed at 20 °C, when compared to 25 °C (PER 1.35 to 2.09, FCR 1.10 to 1.86). Sex ratios were ca. 1:1 in the 00:24 and 12:12 L:D photoperiods, yet ca. 50% of abalone from the 24:00 L:D photoperiod were immature at the end of the experiment. It is concluded that H. fulgens can be best cultured at 20 °C and 00:24 or 12:12 L:D regimes, while sustained temperatures at or above 25 °C may result in cumulative stress, altered physiological rhythms, and delayed maturation.  相似文献

This study examined the behavioural response on the preference and acceptance, growth performance and survival of Marcobrachium rosenbergi larvae fed with isonitrogenous and isolipidic yellow (YCF) and blue (BCF) coloured feed. In the behavioural response test, single and paired feed drop test of YCF and BCF were introduced at the middle of a tank about 15–20 cm from the edge of the white colour tank wall to larvae zoea IV–VI. The number of larvae attracted to each coloured feed was recorded. For the growth and survival performance, each coloured feed was fed to triplicate groups of larvae (zoea V–VI) at stocking density of 30 larvae/L in 12 ppt brackish water for 28 days until they reached postlarval (PL) stage. In the behavioural test, the number of larvae that attracted and accepted the BCF was significantly higher than those fed YCF (p < 0.05). The body weight and length of PL fed BCF was 28% and 5.6% bigger than those fed YCF respectively. However, the survival of the PL was almost similar in both treatments. This study shows that the freshwater prawn larvae were attracted more to the BCF and able to detect and capture the preferred BCF by vision and this contributed to higher growth of the larvae.  相似文献
