When using saline waters, sprinkling irrigation at night is a recommended practice to reduce evaporation, salt absorption by the wetted leaves and its negative effects on crops. We measured shoot ion concentrations (Cl, Na+ and K+) and total dry matter (TDM) in alfalfa subject to diurnal and nocturnal saline sprinkler irrigations and established potential relationships among them. The work was carried out along the 2004–2006 growing seasons using EC waters from 0.5 to 5.6 dS m−1. Saline sprinkling irrigations linearly increased shoot Cl and Na+ and decreased shoot K+. Even though daytime evaporation was much higher than nigh-time, shoot ion accumulation and TDM were similar in the diurnal and nocturnal irrigations. The salinity tolerance of alfalfa decreased in year 2006 due to increases in shoot Cl and, particularly, shoot Na+. The lower threshold for shoot Na+ (276 meq kg−1) than for shoot Cl (726 meq kg−1) shows that alfalfa is more sensitive to Na+ than to Cl, and that Na+ accumulation is the preponderant cause of alfalfa yield decline after 3 years of sprinkling with saline waters.  相似文献

The effect of using treated wastewater for irrigation of table grapes (Vitis vinifera cv. Superior Seedless) was studied for six seasons. The experimental vineyard was grown on clay loam soil in a semi-arid area. Treated wastewater (5.83 meq L?1 Na+) with (TWW + F) and without (TWW) fertilizer, and fresh water with fertilizer (FW + F, 2.97 meq L?1 Na+), were each applied at three irrigation levels (80, 60 and 40 % of crop evapotranspiration before harvest). Root zone (0–60 cm soil depth) soil saturated paste extract Na+ concentrations and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) values fluctuated over the years, but generally decreased in the order TWW > TWW + F > FW + F for each irrigation level. Both Na+ concentrations and SAR values developed faster and to a greater extent at higher irrigation. Adding fertilizer to TWW decreased Na+ and SAR only at the high irrigation level. Na+ concentrations in the trunk wood, bark and xylem sap of the TWW and TWW + F irrigated vines were significantly higher than those in the FW + F-irrigated vines. Leaf petiole Na+ content increased with time and its maximum value in TWW and TWW + F irrigated vines exceeded 6,500 mg kg?1, threefold higher than in FW + F irrigated vines. We conclude that in clay soils under relatively high irrigation, Na+ may pose a greater potential risk to plants and soil rather than Cl? or salinity per se. However, significant effects on yield were not recorded during this six-year study probably due to the high salinity tolerance of the ‘Paulsen’ rootstock used in the experiment.  相似文献

The aim of the present investigation was to simulate the uptake concentrations (weights of ion per volume of water absorbed) of Na+ and Cl in hydroponic tomato crops as a function of the NaCl concentration in the root zone. An empirical model was calibrated and validated, which can be incorporated into on-line operating decision support systems aimed at optimizing the nutrient supply and minimizing the discharge of drainage solution in tomato crops grown in closed-cycle hydroponic systems. Three experiments were conducted, of which one was carried out to calibrate the model using irrigation water with NaCl concentration ranging from 0 to 14.7 mol m−3 while the other two experiments were commissioned to validate the model within either a low (0.5-2 mol m−3) or a high (1.2-12 mol m−3) concentration range. The model could successfully predict the uptake concentration of Na+, but Cl could not be simulated by this model at external Cl concentrations lower than 10 mol m−3. The results indicate that Na+ is excluded actively and effectively by the tested tomato cultivar even at low external Na+ concentrations, while Cl is readily taken up at low concentrations, particularly during the initial growing stages. Due to the efficient exclusion of Na+ by tomato, the Na+ concentration in the root environment increased rapidly to extremely high levels even when the Na+ concentration in the irrigation water was relatively low. These results indicate that tomato genotypes characterized by high salt-exclusion efficiency, require irrigation water with a very low NaCl concentration, if they are grown in closed hydroponic systems and the drainage water is not flushed periodically. To maintain Na+ at levels lower than 19 mol m−3 in the root zone of the tomato hybrid ‘Formula’ in closed hydroponics, a maximum acceptable Na+ concentration of 0.53 mol m−3 was estimated for the irrigation water.  相似文献

A 2-year experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of different drip irrigation regimes on distribution and dynamics of soil water and salt in north Xinjiang, China. Five treatments—F7 (0.24 dS m?1 + Once every 7 days), B7 (4.68 dS m?1 + Once every 7 days), S7 (7.42 dS m?1 + Once every 7 days), F10 (0.24 dS m?1 + Once every 10 days) and F3 (0.24 dS m?1 + Once every 3 days)—were designed. For all treatments, additional 150-mm fresh water was applied on 10th November in 2009 (winter irrigation) to leach the accumulated salt. The results revealed that irrigation frequency and water quality had significant effects on the spatial distribution and change of soil water content, soil salt and the crop water consumption rate, but had a limited impact on the seasonal accumulative water consumption, and the cotton yield decreased with the decrease in irrigation frequency and water quality on the whole. During the cotton growing season, results showed that the salt mainly accumulated in the 0- to 60-cm soil layer, while the soil salt in 60- to 100-cm layer changed slightly, indicating that the drip irrigation could not leach the soil salt out of the root zone under the irrigation regimes. Therefore, salt leaching was necessary to maintain the soil water–salt balance and to prevent excessive salt accumulation in the root zone. After the 150-mm winter irrigation and subsequent thawing, soil salts were leached into the deeper layers (below 60 cm), and the soil salt content (SSC) (EC1:5) in root zone in the next year was about 0.2 dS m?1. Moreover, compared to 2009 season, the SSC within the root zone did not increase even the EC of the irrigation water was up to 7.42 dS m?1. Additionally, it is important to note that the results were concluded based on the data of the 2-year experiment; further studies are need to optimize winter irrigation amount and assess the sustainability of saline water irrigation since long-term utilization of saline water may lead to soil degradation.  相似文献

The field experiments were carried out in 2007 and 2008 to study the effects and strategies of drip irrigation with saline water for oleic sunflower. Five treatments of irrigation water with average salinity levels of 1.6, 3.9, 6.3, 8.6, and 10.9 dS/m were designed. For each treatment, 7 mm water was applied when the soil matric potential (SMP) 0.2 m directly underneath the drip emitters was below −20 kPa, except during the seedling stage. To ensure the seedling survival, 28 mm water was applied after sowing during the seedling stage. Results indicate that amount of applied water decreases as salinity level of irrigation water increases. The emergence will be delayed when the salinity level of irrigation water is higher than 6.3 dS/m, but these differences will be alleviated if there is rainfall during emergence period. The final emergence percentage is not changed when salinity level of irrigation is less than 6.3 dS/m, and the percentage decreases by 2.0% for every 1 dS/m increase when the salinity level of irrigation water is above 6.3 dS/m, but the decreasing rate will be reduced if there is rainfall. The plant height and yield decrease with the increase of salinity of irrigation water. The height of plants decreases by 0.6-1.0% for every 1 dS/m increase in salinity level of irrigation water. The yield decreases by 1.8% for every 1 dS/m increase in salinity level of irrigation water, and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) increases with increase in salinity of irrigation water. The soil salinity increases as the salinity of irrigation water increasing after drip irrigation with saline water in the beginning, but the soil salinity in soil profile from 0 to 120 cm depths can be maintained in a stable level in subsequent year irrigation with saline water. From the view points of yield and soil salt balance, it can be recognized even as the salinity level of irrigation water is as high as 10.9 dS/m, saline water can be applied to irrigate oleic sunflower using drip irrigation when the soil matric potential 0.2 m directly under drip emitter is kept above −20 kPa and the beds are mulched in semi-humid area.  相似文献

Water demand for irrigation is increasing in olive orchards due to enhanced yields and profits. Because olive trees are considered moderately tolerant to salinity, irrigation water with salt concentrations that can be harmful for many of fruit tree crops is often used without considering the possible negative effects on olive tree growth and yield. We studied salt effects in mature olive trees in a long term field experiment (1998-2006). Eighteen-year-old olive trees (Olea europaea L.) cv. Picual were cultivated under drip irrigation with saline water composed of a mixture of NaCl and CaCl2. Three irrigation regimes (i. no irrigation; ii. water application considering soil water reserves, short irrigation; iii. water application without considering soil water reserves and adding a 20% more as a leaching fraction, long irrigation) and three salt concentrations (0.5, 5 or 10 dS m−1) were applied. Treatments were the result of the combination of three salt concentrations with two irrigation regimes, plus the non-irrigated treatment. Growth parameters, leaf and fruit nutrition, yield, oil content and fruit characteristics were annually studied. Annual leaf nutrient analyses indicate that all nutrients were within the adequate levels. After 8 years of treatment, salinity did not affect any growth measurement and leaf Na+ and Cl concentration were always below the toxicity threshold of 0.2 and 0.5%, respectively. Annual and accumulated yield, fruit size and pulp:stone ratio were also not affected by salts. However, oil content increased linearly with salinity, in most of the years studied. Soil salinity measurements showed that there was no accumulation of salts in the upper 30 cm of the soil (where most of the roots are present) because of leaching by rainfall at the end of the irrigation period. Results suggest that a proper management of saline water, supplying Ca2+ to the irrigation water, using drip irrigation until winter rest and seasonal rainfall typical of the Mediterranean climate leach the salts from the first 0-60 cm depth, and growing a tolerant cultivar, can allow using high saline irrigation water (up to 10 dS m−1) for a long time without affecting growth and yield in olive trees.  相似文献

Field experiments were carried out to investigate water and salt management and its effects on Leymus chinensis growth under drip irrigation on saline-sodic soils of the Songnen Plain, China. The ECe of the experiment soil here is 15.2 dS/m and SARe is 14.6 (mmolc L−1)1/2. The threshold of soil matric potential (SMP) was preset in different treatments (−5, −10, −15, −20 and −25 kPa) to control the timing of the irrigation cycle using vacuum tensiometers buried at 0.2 m depth immediately under drip emitters. Drip irrigation frequency and soil matric potential significantly influenced water and salt distributions and L. chinensis growth. In the root zone, the soil water content increased with the SMP, but at deeper layers there were no significant differences in soil water content due to the effect of groundwater. Electrical conductivity showed that there was a low-salt zone near the emitters and that drip irrigation inhibited the buildup of salts in the root zone. There was more leaching of salts for −5 and −10 kPa treatments than for the −15, −20 and −25 kPa treatments. After two years of drip irrigation, the surface salts were well leached, and had moved down with the water to depths below 40 cm. The pH of each treatment was a little decreased and the soil nutrient of S1-S5 were all increased after reclamation, but there were no obvious differences of the five treatments. The best growth was achieved with soil matric potentials of −5 and −10 kPa: the plant height, number and length of spikes, number of tillers, coverage and aboveground biomass all attained their maximum values during the growth periods of L. chinensis, with no significant differences between those two treatments. Thus, in the Songnen Plain, drip irrigation can be used on transplanted L. chinensis for restoration of saline-sodic soils. The results provide theoretical and technological guidance for sustainable reclamation salt-affected soil and the quick restoration and reconstruction of saline-sodic grassland.  相似文献

Summary This study was conducted to determine the conditions and causes of foliar salt absorption and injury from sprinkler irrigation with saline water. Bell pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Yolo Wonder B) grown in covered nutrient solution cultures in the greenhouse were sprinkled daily with NaCl and CaCl2 waters for up to 10 weeks. Unsprinkled plants grown in nonsaline, and in one experiment, saline cultures were compared with plants sprinkled with waters containing different concentrations of NaCl and/or CaCl2. Both the frequency and duration of sprinkling (up to 32 min each day) were tested. The results showed that Ca2+, Na+, and Cl were readily absorbed through the leaves at rates that were essentially linear functions of salt concentration and duration of sprinkling. Increasing frequency of sprinkling increased salt uptake and injury more than increasing duration. Sprinkling with either NaCl or CaCl2 waters was more toxic to pepper than mixtures of the two salts. Although CaCl2 was more toxic than NaCl, low concentrations of Ca2+ ameliorated the detrimental effects of NaCl waters. Foliar analyses indicated that leaf injury was not correlated with Cl accumulation. It appeared that it was caused directly by excessive cation accumulation or indirectly by the resultant ionic imbalance.Received for publicationSupervisory Plant Physiologist, Chemist, and Research Agronomist  相似文献

Summary Many crops accumulate salts through the leaves when they are wetted by sprinkler irrigation. This accumulation may cause foliar injury and decrease crop yield. This study was conducted to test the salt sensitivity of sprinkled alfalfa, barley, cauliflower, cotton, potato, safflower, sesame, sorghum, sugarbeet, sunflower and tomato. Plants were grown in a greenhouse in covered sand cultures that were trickle-irrigated with nonsaline nutrient solutions. Sprinkling with 15 and 30, and in the case of cotton and sunflower, 30 and 60 meq/l waters (9:1 NaCl:CaSO4) was begun when plants were 1 to 3 months old and was continued for 4 to 7 weeks at a frequency of 1 h/day, 5 days/week. Except for sorghum, Na+ and Cl absorption through the leaves was essentially a linear function of salt concentration and duration of sprinkling. Most species absorbed Nat at approximately the same rate as Cl; however, in potato and sugarbeet Nat absorption exceeded Cl; and in barley and sesame Cl; exceeded Na1. The mean rates of Na+ and Cl; absorption among species increased in the order: sorghum cotton = sunflower < cauliflower < sesame = alfalfa = sugarbeet < barley = tomato < potato = safflower. Susceptibility to leaf injury among species did not vary in strict relation to rates of salt absorption from 30 meq/l water. Potato and tomato readily absorbed Na+ and Cl; and quickly exhibited symptoms of leaf tip and margin necrosis. On the other hand, safflower, with one of the highest rates of salt absorption was only slightly injured by sprinkling. Barley readily absorbed salt, particularly Cl; and exhibited minor injury symptoms; whereas sesame and alfalfa had intermediate absorption rates but were somewhat more susceptible to injury. Sugarbeet was uninjured by sprinkling but absorbed appreciable amounts of Nat; whereas sorghum developed some necrosis along leaf edges but absorbed very little salt. Cauliflower, cotton, and sunflower absorbed salt slowly and exhibited almost no injury.Supervisory Plant Physiologist, Research Assistant, and Plant Physiologist  相似文献

One-year-old Sultana (Vitis vinifera L.) vines, own-rooted and grafted on 41B, 110R, 140Ru, 1103P and SO4 were grown in sand–perlite mixture (1:1) irrigated with half-strength nutrient solution containing 5, 25, 50 and 100 mM of NaCl. Growth, tissue mineral content and leaf gas exchange response to salt treatment and subsequent recovery were examined over a 70-day period. Shoot growth, leaf area and total dry weight were significantly reduced (P<0.05) at all salinity levels. Tissue salt content increased significantly with increasing salinity, Cl being always higher than Na+. Photosynthetic rate (Pn) and stomatal conductance (gs) were greatly reduced by salinity and highly correlated with leaf Cl content. Own-rooted vines exhibited higher dry matter production and photosynthetic rates than grafted vines, despite the higher Cl and Na+ content. During recovery, vines previously treated with 50 and 100 mM NaCl exhibited photosynthetic rates and stomatal conductances similar to the control, although laminae Na+ and Cl content continued to increase. Our results showed that own-rooted ‘Sultana’ vines (V. vinifera) can cope better with high salinity followed by those grafted on 1103P, 140Ru, 110R, SO4 and 41B rootstocks.  相似文献

The effects of crop level and irrigation on water relations, yield, grape and wine composition were studied during two seasons in a Tempranillo vineyard in Spain. Irrigation was applied at two levels: R2 (with mild deficit irrigation applied during all the season) and R1 (with more severe water stress applied before veraison). Deficit irrigated vines were compared to a non-irrigated control. Crop levels imposed resulted in 11, 20, and 27 clusters per vine. Over all treatments, yield and ratio of leaf area to yield (LA: Y) were different between years: 4.4 and 16.3?t?ha?1 and 1.72 and 0.88?m2?kg?1 in 2005 and 2006, respectively. In 2005, large differences in grape and wine composition occurred among non-irrigated and the irrigated treatments, but not between R1 and R2 treatments. Wines from non-irrigated vines were more acid, had higher total anthocyanins, and higher color intensity. In 2006, irrigation had less effect on grape and wine variables. The effect of shoot and cluster thinning on wine composition was different between seasons due to the different crop load values between years. Grape composition was negatively affected by high crop level only for values of LA: Y lower than 1.5?m2?kg?1.  相似文献

The effect of irrigation with saline (0.1-7.6 dS m-1) water on the growth of six cultivars of lucerne was assessed over four irrigation seasons at Tatura, Victoria, Australia. Measurements made in the study included shoot dry matter production, shoot ion concentrations, flowering incidence, root distribution and soil salinity and sodicity levels. After four seasons, soil ECe levels had risen to 4.2 dS m-1 at the beginning of the irrigation season and this increased to around 6 dS m-1 at the end of the season for the highest salinity irrigation treatment (7.6 dS m-1). The soils in the two most saline irrigation treatments also became sodic (SAR1:5>3) by the third and fourth seasons. By the second season, cultivars differed significantly in salt tolerance as defined by the rate of decline in dry matter production. The cultivars CUF 101 and Validor were consistently the most salt-tolerant cultivars, although cv. Southern Special produced the greatest amount of dry matter over all salinity treatments. Root densities at depths from 0 to 60 cm were greater under saline (2.5 and 7.6 dS m-1) than under non-saline conditions (0.1 dS m-1). Flower production was increased by salinity. It was concluded that, despite the presence of intraspecific variation for salt tolerance, it is detrimental to irrigate lucerne with water at electrical conductivities greater than 2.5 dS m-1 on a red-brown earth in southern Australia.  相似文献

A long-term greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the effects of irrigation frequency and salinity on pepper fruit yield and quality in crops growing in coconut coir. Two salinity levels (4 mM NaCl, 2.6 dS m−1 and 24 mM NaCl, 4.6 dS m−1) were combined with four irrigation treatments (one irrigation event every two days (0.5), one irrigation event per day (1), four irrigation events per day (4), and eight irrigation events per day (8)) in a 2 × 4 factorial combination. The effect on fruit quality was evaluated at the early and late harvest seasons, corresponding with two different periods of fruit production (May and July). We found that above-ground total biomass and marketable fruit yield decreased in the salinized treatments. When salinized (24 mM NaCl) nutrient solution (NS) was applied, increasing the number of irrigation events to eight per day resulted in a decrease in the incidence of blossom-end rot and a corresponding increase in the marketable fruit yield. When control (4 mM NaCl) NS was applied, one irrigation event per day yielded as much marketable fruit as was produced with the highest irrigation frequency, and therefore increased water use efficiency, expressed as marketable fruit weight per L of NS applied. When NS containing 24 mM NaCl was used, there was an increase of Cl but not Na+ in the leaf tissue, with this increase reaching its maximum in the treatment involving eight irrigation events per day. Salinity decreased the Ca2+ concentration of the fruit only in the early harvest season of production. However, increasing irrigation frequency consistently resulted in higher Ca2+ concentration in the fruit. The effects of salinity on the morphological and organoleptic properties of the fruit were more pronounced in the late harvest season.  相似文献

Salinization and nitrate leaching are two of the leading threats to the environment of the European Mediterranean regions. Inefficient use of water and fertilizers has led to a nitrate increase in the aquifers and reduction in crop yields caused by salts. In this study, a triple emitter source irrigation system delivers water, salt (Na+), and fertilizer (N) applications to maize (Zea mays L.). The objective of the study was to evaluate the combined effect of saline water and nitrogen application on crop yields in two different textured soils of Alentejo (Portugal) and to assess if increasing salinity levels of the irrigation water can be compensated by application of nitrogen while still obtaining acceptable crop yield. Maximum yield was obtained from both soils with an application of 13 g m−2 of nitrogen. Yield response to Na+ application was different in the two studied soils and depended on the total amount of Na+ or irrigation water applied. No significant interaction was found between nitrogen and sodium, but a positive effect on maize yield was observed in the medium textured soil for amounts of Na+ less than 905 g m−2 when applied in the irrigation water.  相似文献

One-year-old carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) rootstock was grown in fertilised substrate to evaluate the effects of NaCl salinity stress. The experiment consisted of seven treatments with different concentrations of NaCl in the irrigation water: 0 (control), 15, 30, 40, 80, 120 and 240 (mmol L−1), equivalent to electrical conductivities of 0.0, 1.5, 2.9, 3.9, 7.5, 10.9 and 20.6 dS m−1, respectively. Several growth parameters were measured throughout the experimental period. At the end of the experiment, pH, extractable P and K, and the electrical conductivity of the substrate were assessed in each salinity level. On the same date, the mineral composition of the leaves was compared. The carob rootstock tolerated 13.4 dS m−1 for a period of 30 days but after 60 days the limit of tolerance was only 6.8 dS m−1. Salt tolerance indexes were 12.8 and 4.5 for 30 and 60 days, respectively. This tolerance to salinity resulted from the ability to function with concentrations of Cl and Na+ in leaves up to 24.0 and 8.5 g kg−1, respectively. Biomass allocation to shoots and roots was similar in all treatments, but after 40 days the number of leaves was reduced, particularly at the larger concentrations (120 and 240 mmol NaCl L−1). Leaves of plants irrigated with 240 mmol NaCl L−1 became chlorotic after 30 days exposure. However, concentrations of N, P, Mg and Zn in leaves were not affected significantly (P > 0.05) by salinity. Apparently, K+ and Ca2+ were the key nutrients affected in the response of carob rootstocks to salinity. Plants grown with 80 and 120 mmol L−1 of NaCl contained the greatest K+ concentration. Na+/K+ increased with salinity, due to an elevated Na+ content but K+ uptake was also enhanced, which alleviated some Na+ stress. Ca2+ concentration in leaves was not reduced under salinity. Salinization of irrigation water and subsequent impacts on agricultural soils are now common problems in the Mediterranean region. Under such conditions, carob seems to be a salt as well as a drought tolerant species.  相似文献

Rapid urbanization and industrialization have increased the pressure on limited existing fresh water to meet the growing needs for food production. Two immediate responses to this challenge are the efficient use of irrigation technology and the use of alternative sources of water. Drip irrigation methods may play an important role in efficient use of water but there is still limited information on their use on sugar beet crops in arid countries such as Iran. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of irrigation method and water quality on sugar beet yield, percentage of sugar content and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE). The irrigation methods investigated were subsurface drip, surface drip and furrow irrigation. The two waters used were treated municipal effluent (EC = 1.52 dS m−1) and fresh water (EC = 0.509 dS m−1). The experiments used a split plot design and were undertaken over two consecutive growing seasons in Southern Iran. Statistical testing indicated that the irrigation method and water quality had a significant effect (at the 1% level) on sugar beet root yield, sugar yield, and IWUE. The highest root yield (79.7 Mg ha−1) was obtained using surface drip irrigation and effluent and the lowest root yield (41.4 Mg ha−1) was obtained using furrow irrigation and fresh water. The highest IWUE in root yield production (9 kg m−3) was obtained using surface drip irrigation with effluent and the lowest value (3.8 kg m−3) was obtained using furrow irrigation with fresh water. The highest IWUE of 1.26 kg m−3 for sugar was obtained using surface drip irrigation. The corresponding efficiency using effluent was 1.14 kg m−3. Irrigation with effluent led to an increase in the net sugar yield due to an increase in the sugar beet root yield. However, there was a slight reduction in the percentage sugar content in the plants. This study also showed that soil water and root depth monitoring can be used in irrigation scheduling to avoid water stress. Such monitoring techniques can also save considerable volumes of irrigation water and can increase yield.  相似文献

The effect of irrigation with water at salinity concentrations of 2.6 and 5.2 dS m–1 on the growth of pure swards of six cultivars of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) was examined over three irrigation seasons at Tatura, Victoria, Australia. After two irrigation seasons, soil EC e levels increased to 6 dS m–1 at 0–60 cm depth in the higher salinity treatment resulting in highly significant (p < 0.001) reductions in shoot dry matter production, flowering densities and petiole and stolon densities. These saline conditions also increased (p <0.001) concentrations of Cl and Na in the shoots and reduced (p < 0.001) leaf water potentials and canopy photosynthetic efficiency rates especially at high temperatures. In contrast, root growth increased at shallow depths (0–15 cm) under both saline irrigation treatments (p <0.001). Cultivars differed significantly in salt tolerance (p < 0.001), with cultivars Haifa and Irrigation exhibiting superior tolerance in terms of lower reductions in herbage yield (p <0.05) and petiole densities (p <0.001) during one irrigation season and lower concentrations of Na and Cl in the shoots (p <0.05) compared with the other four cultivars (Aran, Kopu, Pitau and Tamar). In addition, canopy photosynthetic efficiency rates (A *) in plots irrigated with water at 5.2 dS m–1 were higher in cultivar Haifa compared with cultivar Tamar (p <0.05). The salt tolerance ranking obtained for the six cultivars was in broad agreement with earlier greenhouse studies. Consequently, it appears that, while white clover is an extremely salt-sensitive species, it is possible to grow cultivars which display greater salt tolerance than other cultivars and which provide some scope to increase, or at least to maintain, pasture yields in areas where the soil salinity is low to moderate or where pumped saline groundwater is re-used for Irrigation.  相似文献

Summary Dilution of saline groundwater (2.5 dS m–1) for irrigation is a common practice in the Shepparton Region of Northern Victoria. There is little information describing the leaching rates and hence longterm soil salinity levels that will result from such practices. There is also little information to suggest the effect of irrigating with saline water on groundwater recharge.Leaching rates under perennial pastures grown on a Paleustalf were estimated using three methods based on the mass conservation of chloride. Five treatments were irrigated with water ranging from 0.22 dS m–1 to 4.84 dS m–1. Leaching rates were greater the higher the salinity of the irrigation water (Table 3). Increased leaching resulted from both increased electrolyte levels in the water and decreased water uptake by plants.A model based on non-steady state solute movement usefully predicted the approach of steady-state conditions in the root zone several years earlier than simple observation of the solute data allowed (Table 5).  相似文献

In 2004 and 2005, the feasibility of agricultural use of saline aquaculture wastewater for irrigation of Jerusalem artichoke and sunflower was conducted in the Laizhou region using saline aquaculture wastewater mixed with brackish groundwater at different ratios. Six treatments with different electrical conductivities (EC) were included in the experiment: CK1 (rainfed), CK2 (irrigation with freshwater, EC of 0.02 dS m−1), and saline aquaculture wastewater (EC of 39.2 dS m−1) mixed with brackish groundwater (EC of 4.4 dS m−1) at volumetric ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4 with corresponding EC of 22.0, 16.1, 13.2, and 11.4 dS m−1. Soil electrical conductivity (ECe) in the saline aquaculture wastewater irrigation treatments was significantly higher (P ≤ 0.05) than that in the rainfed or freshwater irrigation treatments, and the maximum value occurred in the 22.0 dS m−1 treatment. The sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) ranged from 4.1 to 11.7 mmol1/2 L−1/2 and increased with decreasing salinity of irrigation water. The biomass of Jerusalem artichoke significantly decreased (P ≤ 0.05) when irrigated with saline aquaculture wastewater compared to the rainfed or freshwater irrigation treatments; however, the effect of salinity on root biomass was much smaller than the aerial parts. Concomitantly, the highest tuber yield of Jerusalem artichoke occurred in the 11.4 dS m−1 treatment, while the highest seed yield of sunflower occurred in the rainfed treatment. Additionally, nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations of Jerusalem artichoke were significantly higher in the 11.4 dS m−1 treatment than the other treatments. This study demonstrated that properly diluted saline aquaculture wastewater can be used successfully to irrigate Jerusalem artichoke with higher economic yield and nutrient removal, but not sunflower due to the difference in salt tolerance.  相似文献

This paper reports the effects of irrigation amount and partial rootzone drying (PRD) on water relations, growth, yield and wine quality of Vitis vinifera cv. ‘Tempranillo’ during two consecutive years in a commercial vineyard with a deep, light-clay soil located in Requena, Valencia, Spain. Partial rootzone drying applied at two amounts (100% and 50% of the estimated crop evapotranspiration), was compared to conventional drip irrigation, and also to rainfed vines. Results showed that the effects of irrigation amount on yield and wine quality were different between years. In 2003 with low yield values (around 6.3 t ha−1) irrigation did neither affect grape production nor wine quality. However, in the following year, with much higher general yield (17 t ha−1), the high irrigation dose increased yield by 30% compared to rainfed vines and it also increased must total soluble solids and wine alcohol content. In both seasons, PRD did not significantly affect physiological parameters, nor growth, yield or fruit and wine quality, when compared to the same amount of water applied by conventional drip irrigation. Overall these results suggest that, under our experimental conditions, it was the irrigation amount rather than the system of application what affected vine performance, indicating the difficulties of successfully employing the PRD type of irrigation with a drip system in heavy and deep soils.  相似文献
