Electro-spun silk web has attracted attention for biomedical applications because of its excellent bio-compatibility and facile fabrication method. Because biomedical applications require various performances of silk web, many studies have been conducted on the effect of the variables associated with their preparation on the structure and properties of silk web. In the present study, the effect of residual sericin content on the morphology, structural characteristics, and properties of electrospun regenerated silk web was examined. The regenerated silk without sericin (i.e., silk with 100 wt% fibroin) did not show good electro-spinnability. However, the electro-spinnability improved remarkably above a sericin content of 0.6 wt%. The crystallinity index of the electro-spun silk increased at 0.6 wt% sericin content and decreased above 8.2 wt% sericin. The mechanical properties of the electro-spun silk webs showed a similar trend as their crystallinity indices. The breaking strength and elongation improved significantly at 0.6 wt% sericin content and both parameters gradually decreased above this value. The thermal stability of the silk web decreased slightly upon increasing the sericin content.  相似文献

The use of regenerated silk fiber is limited due to its inferior mechanical properties in spite of high potential in a wide variety of applications. Many studies have been conducted in order to improve the mechanical properties of the regenerated silk materials, but no one has so far suggested an obvious solution. Meanwhile, some reports showed evidence that structural development of silk protein can be manipulated by physical interactions between silk fibroin (SF) and silk sericin (SS) during the regeneration process, especially in recrystallization process of SF. Such a hypothesis suggests a promising clue to enhance the mechanical properties of silk-based materials. Therefore, in this study, we tried to elucidate how SS can promote developing the molecular chain orientation of SF, resulting in an improvement of mechanical properties of regenerated silk fiber during spinning process. The tensile properties of the regenerated silk fiber were significantly improved compared to those of pure SF fiber when a proper amount of SS was blend with SF; both tenacity and breaking elongation increased by approximately 30 % and 70 % at three fold draw ratio, respectively. Quantitative analysis of X-ray diffraction and Herman’s orientation coefficient confirmed that such an improvement of tensile property was mainly caused by an increase of molecular orientation induced by sericin during the drawing process.  相似文献

Hybrid yarn was produced by twisting silk with nylon covered lycra yarn. Silk of 20 D in warp and hybrid yarn in weft was woven to develop lustrous woven stretch fabrics for sari blouse. Silk and hybrid yarn fabrics were produced in three different weaves namely plain, crepe and sateen. An in-depth study was carried out to understand the effect of weave on thermal comfort; low stress mechanical properties, total hand value and stretch properties. Nine blouses (3 samples× 3 figures) were constructed from three different woven stretch materials for fit assessment and objective pressure comfort test. The effect of fabric weave, low stress mechanical properties, total hand value and stretch properties on fit and pressure comfort of silk/hybrid yarn stretch fabrics were analyzed. Sateen weave silk/hybrid yarn stretch fabric shows higher total hand value, stretch properties and better thermal comfort properties. Sateen and crepe weave stretch fabrics provided good fit. Sateen weave fabric exerted lower clothing pressure value in the range of 3-12 mmHg at all body locations in standing position and in different postures.  相似文献

Different silk substrates in form of spun silk tops, nonwoven web, yarn, and fabric were coated with electrically conducting doped polypyrrole (PPy) by in situ oxidative polymerization from an aqueous solution of pyrrole (Py) at room temperature using FeCl3 as catalyst. PPy-coated silk materials were characterized by optical (OM) and scanning electron (SEM) microscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, and thermal analysis (DSC, TG). OM and SEM showed that PPy completely coated the surface of individual silk fibers and that the polymerization process occurred only at the fiber surface and not in the bulk. Dendrite-like aggregates of PPy adhered to the fiber surface, with the exception of the sample first polymerized in the form of tops and then spun into yarn using conventional industrial machines. FT-IR (ATR mode) showed a mixed spectral pattern with bands typical of silk and PPy overlapping over the entire wavenumbers range. DSC and TG showed that PPy-coated silk fibers attained a significantly higher thermal stability owing to the protective effect of the PPy layer against thermal degradation. The mechanical properties of silk fibers remained unchanged upon polymerization of Py. The different PPy-coated silk materials displayed excellent electrical properties. After exposition to atmospheric oxygen for two years a residual conductivity of 10–20 % was recorded. The conductivity decreased sharply under the conditions of domestic washing with water, while it remained essentially unchanged upon dry cleaning. Abrasion tests caused a limited increase of resistance. PPy-coated silk tops were successfully spun into yarn either pure or in blend with untreated silk fibers. The resulting yarns maintained good electrical properties.  相似文献

Chromophore incorporated into the protein chains through residue modification on silk fibroin will be an important way to get new dyeing technology with improved color fastness. Herein, 1-aminoanthraquinone diazonium salt was prepared and used for the modified dyeing on tyrosine of silk fibroin. The silk after modified dyeing was measured by UV-Vis, FTIR, MS, 1H-NMR, Data color, and other testing techniques. Interestingly, the resulting silk showed excellent rub and wash fastness. The enhanced color fastness is contributed by an electrophilic substitution reaction between 1- aminoanthraquinone diazonium salt and the ortho position of phenolic hydroxyl in tyrosine molecular. Moreover, the mechanical property of silk was protected effectively by the mild coupling modified dyeing, better than the traditional acid dyeing under high temperature for a long time. This facile strategy provides an alternative approach to silk dyeing and benefits the silk applications.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare physical, mechanical and biological properties of 3-dimensional scaffolds prepared from Bombyx mori silk fibroin (SF), fibroin blended with collagen (SF/C), and fibroin blended with gelatin (SF/G) using a freeze-drying technique. The prepared scaffolds were sponge-like structure that exhibited homogeneous porosity with highly interconnected pores. Average pore size of these scaffolds ranged from 65–147 μm. All biodegradable scaffolds were capable of water absorption of 90 %. The degradation behavior of these scaffolds could be controlled by varying the amount of blended polymer. The SF/C and SF/G scaffolds showed higher compressive modulus than that of SF scaffolds which could be attributed to the thicker pore wall observed in the blended constructs. The less crystalline SF structure was observed in SF/G scaffolds as compared to SF/C scaffolds. Thus, the highest compressive modulus was observed on SF/C matrix. To investigate the feasibility of the scaffolds for cartilage tissue engineering application, rat articular chondrocytes were seeded onto the scaffolds. The MTT assay demonstrated that blending collagen or gelatin into SF sponge facilitated cell attachment and proliferation better than SF scaffolds. The blended SF scaffolds possessed superior physical, mechanical and biological properties in comparison to SF scaffolds and showed high potential for application in cartilage tissue engineering.  相似文献

Consolidation of fragile historic silks is of great importance for further displays and researches. An effective and convenient method to consolidate aged silk fabric has been proposed by using a silk fibroin (SF)/ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE) consolidation system. Artificial aged silk fabrics treated with SF/EGDE show great improvement in mechanical properties. The chemical reaction between EGDE and silk fabrics has been proved in previous paper. And in this paper, mechanical test, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR) test and amino acid analysis (AAA) were applied to illustrate the interactions between SF and silk fabric, EGDE and SF. Results show that SF takes part in the consolidation in the form of adhesions on the surface of silk fibers. The chemical reactions and film adhesion are both responsible for the improvements of mechanical properties in the consolidation.  相似文献

We successfully prepared optically transparent silk fibroin-cellulose nanofiber (CN) composite films from solvent casting using a stable CN suspension in an aqueous silk fibroin solution. The transmittance of the silk fibroin composite films was observed by a UV-visible spectrophotometer. The secondary structural change of the silk fibroin caused by the incorporation of CNs was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. A tensile test was carried out to investigate the mechanical properties. The results showed that the composite film exhibited visible-light transmittance of 75 %, and its mechanical strength and Young’s modulus were increased by 44 % and 35 %, respectively, as compared to a neat silk fibroin film.  相似文献

Electric field plays a key role in electrospinning process for nanofiber and nanofiber yarn producing. The electric field distribution of the yarn manufacturing system is simulated by using finite element method analysis. The effects of electric field distribution and intensity were studied to analyze the influence of the electric field on the electrospun nanofiber yarn surface morphology, mechanical, thermal and water absorption properties. The results show that the morphology and diameters of nanofiber and yarn were obviously affected by the electric field with changing the needle distance and applied voltage, which further influence the mechanical performance of the yarn. The needle distance does not much affect the thermal property of the PSA electrospun yarn, whereas the yarn obtains better thermal resistance properties at voltage of 25 kV. The nanoyarn electrospun and assembled under higher applied voltage is proved to have a better wicking property in our research.  相似文献

Silk fibroin (SF) was dissolved in calcium chloride/ethanol/water mixture (1/2/8 in mole ratio) at 70°C for 4 h. The dissolved silk fibroin was regenerated by casting the dialyzed solution into the films. The films were treated with 50% aqueous solution of methanol for different times, and their antithrombogenicity was evaluated byin vitro andin vivo tests. In vivo blood tests were made by a method of peripheral vein indwelling suture. It was found that the silk fibroin had a good anti-thrombogenicity and an absorbability even though the polymer showed foreign body reaction. Finally, the blood compatibilty of silk fibroin films which were subjected to structural change by the methanol treatment, was examined in connection with their interfacial surface energy, and a correlation between these properties was found to be present.  相似文献

Protein concentration, pH, the types and concentrations of metallic ions, and extensional flow are thought to be important environment parameters affecting the natural spinning process. In this study, we investigate the effects of the types and concentrations of metallic ions (Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ ions), pH, and silk fibroin concentration on the sol-gel transition and the rheological behavior of a regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) aqueous solution. The results show that with an increase in the silk fibroin concentration, the weak acidic RSF aqueous solutions containing Mg2+ or Ca2+ ions undergo a phase transition to a weak gel state. Moreover, the rheological characterization of RSF aqueous solutions shows a dramatic change, and their apparent viscosities increase by almost three orders of magnitude and approach the apparent viscosity of the native dope in the silkworm gland. By using conventional pressure equipment, we investigate the dry-spinnability of weak gels. Further, we observe that the as-spun fibers exhibit a smooth surface and have inferior mechanical properties. The structure of the as-spun fibers is predominantly in a random coil or Silk I conformation.  相似文献

Cellulase is useful for bio-polishing cotton fabrics which enhances their aesthetic performance instead of stonewashing process. Torque-free ring spun process is a widely used technique to produce newly low-twist and balanced torque yarns with soft hand. In this paper, denim fabrics woven with torque-free ring spun yarn and conventional ring spun yarn respectively were treated with cellulase under the same condition and their fabric handle, expressed as low stress mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, bending, shearing, compression and surface performance were investigated by Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabric (KES-F). After cellulase treatment, both denim fabrics revealed better flexibility, elasticity recovery, raised shearing stiffness, fluffier and improved smoothness. While torque-free ring spun yarn made denim fabric showed a better fabric handle than conventional ring spun yarn made denim fabric.  相似文献

During enzymatic modifications of silk fibroins, the accessibility of tyrosinases to the reactive sites was limited owing to the steric hindrance of tyrosine residues in the fibroin proteins. To improve the reactivity of silk fibroin, a tyrosine-containing peptide (TyrP) was covalently grafted onto the fibroin surfaces using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC). Enzymatic oxidation of the modified fibroins was subsequently carried out with a mushroom tyrosinase, followed by coupling of ε-polylysine (ε-PL) with the generated o-quinone residues of silk fibroins. The efficacy of grafting reaction was examined by means of SDS-PAGE and amine acid analysis. The results indicated EDC treatment might cause the direct self-crosslinks of silk fibroins and TyrP-bridged cross-links of fibroin molecules as well, which led to a noticeable increase in the molecular weight of fibroin proteins. TyrP-grafted fibroins displayed higher reactivity compared to the untreated, and more ε-PL was bonded to the fibroin surfaces when incubating with tyrosinase, resulting in improved wettability and mechanical property. The presented work offers an efficient alternative for the enzymatic modification of the fibroin-based materials with tyrosinase.  相似文献

Enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine side-chains in proteins could produce reactive o-quinones that might subsequently react with the primary amino groups of functional compounds, which provided a worthwhile reference for functionalization of fibrion materials. In the present work the potential for using tyrosinase to graft the bovine lactoferrin onto Bombyx mori silk fibroin was examined. Lactoferrin could adsorb onto silk fibers and covalently bind to the previous enzymatically oxidized fibroin surface. The enzyme-generated quinones in silk fibers also might cause self-crosslinking of fibroin peptides, which led to beneficial changes of silk properties. For the fabric treated with tyrosinase and lactoferrin slight improvements of dyeability and strength were obtained in comparison to the control. The combinedly treated fabric showed encouraging resistance to S. aureus and E. coli, the antibacterial activities reached to 87.0 % and 76.4 %, respectively. The durability of the antibacterial silk was noticeably higher than that of the sample treated with lactoferrin alone.  相似文献

The mechanical and physical properties of spun yarns and fabrics depend not only on properties of constituent fibers, but also the yarn structure characterized by geometrical arrangement of fibers in the yarn body. Although there are many studies related to analyzing the migratory properties of spun yarns, there are no studies available about predicting yarn migration parameters. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to introduce a new approach to predict migratory properties of different kinds of spun yarns, namely siro, solo, compact and conventional ring-spun yarns. To achieve the objectives of the research, general physical and mechanical properties of spun yarns together with existing standards were thoroughly studied. Spun yarn migratory properties were predicted using intelligent technique of artificial neural network (ANN). Results signified that the ANN models can predict precisely the yarn migratory properties on the basis of a series of yarn physical and mechanical properties.  相似文献

In this study, cross-cultural comparison of sound sensation for Korean traditional silk fabrics between Korea and America was performed and prediction models for sound sensation by objective measurements including sound parameters such as level pressure of total sound (LPT), Zwicker’s psychoacoustic characteristics, and mechanical properties by Kawabata Evaluation System were established for each nation to explore the objective parameters explaining sound sensation of the Korean traditional silk. As results, Koreans felt the silk fabric sounds soft and smooth while Americans were revealed as perceiving them hard and rough. Both Koreans and Americans were pleasant with sounds of Gongdan and Newttong and especially Newttong was preferred more by Americans in terms of sound sensation. In prediction models, some of subjective sensation were found as being related mainly with mechanical properties of traditional silk fabrics such as surface and compressional characteristics.  相似文献

The current research discusses the efforts to achieve a Poly(lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA) nanofiber yarn using two differently charged nozzles with potential application as surgery suture. First, electrospinning parameters such as solution concentration, applied voltage, feed rate were optimized to produce yarn with smooth nanofibers. In order to improve the properties of produced suture, heat setting setup was developed. Two heat setting techniques, including hot water and dry heat were applied, and the influence of the heat setting process on the mechanical properties of yarn was studied. The results showed that heat setting with boiling water was the best method. At first strength, E-modulus and extension of prepared suture were 36.6 MPa, 0.9 GPa and 68.8 % respectively. After improvement with heat setting, strength and E-modulus increased to 63.7 MPa, 2.7 GPa respectively and extension decreased to 29.7 %. Finally, in order to analyze knot performance, two types of surgical knot (square and surgeon) were used, and mechanical properties were investigated. The presence of knot lessens mechanical properties for each two type. Square knot showed better mechanical properties than surgeon’s knot. With square knot strength, E-modulus and extension were 62.1 MPa, 2.1 GPa, 28.6 %, respectively. In vitro study of nanofiber yarn degradation behavior showed that the mechanical properties were decreased. This could be due to greater surface area of nanofibers exposed to surrounding environment.  相似文献

Yarn structure plays an important role in determining the properties of spun yarns. Recently, a modified spinning technique has been developed for producing a low torque and soft handle singles yarn by modifying the fiber arrangement in a yarn. Comparative studies revealed that the finer modified yarns possess significantly higher strength and lower hairiness over the conventional yarns of the same twist level, implying a different structure of finer modified yarn. Thus this paper aims to quantitatively study the structures of the finer conventional and modified cotton yarn (80 Ne) produced at the same twist level. Various measuring techniques, namely the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), cross section technique and tracer fiber technique, are adopted to analyze their structural characteristics, including fiber configuration, fiber spatial orientation angle, fiber packing density, yarn surface appearance, and fiber migration behavior. Results showed that finer modified yarns exhibit a smoother surface and much more compact structure with less hairiness. The fibers in the finer modified yarn have a complicated fiber path with relatively lower fiber radial position, larger migration frequency and magnitudes. In addition, it was noted that 73% of fibers in the finer conventional yarn follow concentric conical helix, which is contrary to those in the coarser conventional yarn. The analyses conducted in this paper provide deep insights into the mechanism of modified spinning technique and evidential explanations on the difference of properties between the finer conventional and modified yarns.  相似文献

In this report, silk fibroin (SF) mats coated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were manufactured as a prototypic wound dressing and evaluated for antimicrobial properties. SF was extracted from cocoons of Thai silkworms Bombyx mori (variant Nangnoi Si Sa Ket) and fabricated into nonwoven mats by electrospinning. In a one-step synthesis method, colloidal AgNPs were prepared from silver nitrate by gamma irradiation and inspected by transmission electron microscopy. Using the in vitro disc diffusion and growth-inhibition assays, AgNP-coated SF mats effectively inhibited the growth of Staphyllococus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa when the coating solution containing colloidal AgNPs was 4 mM, or equivalent to 50.4 ng/cm2 of adsorbed AgNPs. Based on these results, the AgNP-coated SF mats can potentially be used as antimicrobial wound dressings.  相似文献

Bidirectional PP/jute yarn eco-composites were fabricated via environment friendly commingling technique and its long term durability/life time was monitored as an effect of accelerated solar ageing on its mechanical properties (tensile & flexural). Accelerated solar ageing promoted the thermal oxidation of PP thus resulting in deterioration of its properties, however; MAPP and KMnO4 treated commingled composites showed much better stability towards thermal oxidation brought about by the solar concentrator, compared to untreated sample and neat polypropylene. This increased resistivity of treated composites (especially MAPP and KMnO4) towards thermal oxidation brought about by the solar concentrator is due to the increased interfacial adhesion between the matrix and jute yarn owing to chemical modifications. The significance of effective stress transfer between the PP matrix and reinforcing jute yarns is evident from the increased tear resistance of PP/jute yarn commingled composites with increasing fibre content and also with different chemical treatments.  相似文献
