This paper presents the findings of the effect of some selected deficit irrigation scheduling practices on irrigated maize crop in a sub-catchment in south western part of Tanzania. Field experiments, in which maize (TMV1-ST) variety was planted under total irrigation, were conducted during the dry seasons of 2004 and 2005. Surface irrigation method was used and the crop was planted in basins. The seasonal water applied ranged from 400 to 750 mm. Soil moisture content from both cropped and bare soils, leaf area index, dry matter, and grain yields were measured. The dry matter yield ranged between 6,966 and 12,672 kg/ha, and grain yields obtained were between 1,625 and 4,349 kg/ha. The results showed that deficit irrigation at any crop growth stage of the maize crop led to decrease in dry matter and grain yields, seasonal evapotranspiration and deep percolation. Deficit irrigation in any one growth stage of the maize crop only seems to affect grain production and no significant effect on biomass production, but deficit irrigation that spanned across two or more growth stages affect both biomass and grain production drastically. Crop water use efficiency (WUE) and Irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) were strongly influenced by the number of growth stages in which deficit irrigations were applied and how critical the growth stages were to moisture stress rather than the amount of irrigation water applied. While maximum WUE was obtained under full irrigation, maximum IWUE was obtained in the deficit irrigation treatment at vegetative growth stage, which suggest that IWUE may be improved upon by practicing deficit irrigation at the vegetative growth stage of the maize crop.  相似文献

Over the last two decades, a significant increase in intensively managed olive orchards has occurred in the northwest of Argentina where climatic conditions differ greatly from the Mediterranean Basin. Annual amounts of applied irrigation are generally high due to low rainfall, access to deep ground water, and little information about water use by the crop in the region. The objectives of this study were to: (1) assess the responses of plant growth, yield components, and several physiological parameters to five different irrigation levels and (2) determine an optimum crop coefficient (Kc) for the entire growing season considering both fruit yield and vegetative growth. Five irrigation treatments (Kc = 0.50, 0.70, 0.85, 1.0, 1.15) were employed from late winter to the fall over 2 years in a 6-year-old cv. ‘Manzanilla fina’ olive orchard. Tree canopy volume was approximately 15 m3 with a leaf area of about 40 m2 at the beginning of the experiment. During much of each year, the volumetric soil water content was lower in the Kc = 0.50 treatment than in the other irrigation levels evaluated (Kc = 0.85 and 1.15). Although differences in midday stem water potential (Ψs) were not always apparent between treatments during the first year, there were lower Ψs values in Kc = 0.50 and 0.70 relative to the higher irrigation levels during the second year. Shoot elongation in Kc = 0.50 was about 50% of that in Kc = 1.0 and 1.15 during both years leading to significant differences in the increase of tree canopy volume by the end of the first year. Fruit yield was similar among irrigation levels the first year, but yield reached a maximum value the second year between Kc = 0.70 and 0.85 above which no increase was apparent. The somewhat lower fruit yield values in Kc = 0.50 and 0.70 were associated with decreased fruit number rather than reductions in individual fruit weight. The water productivity on a yield basis (fruit yield per mm of applied irrigation) decreased as irrigation increased in the second year, while similar calculations based on trunk cross-sectional area growth indicated that vegetative growth was proportional to the amount of irrigation. This suggests that the warm climate of northwest Argentina (28° S) can induce excessive vegetative growth when very high irrigation levels are applied. A Kc value of approximately 0.70 over the course of the growing season should be sufficient to maintain both fruit yield and vegetative growth at adequate levels. An evaluation of regulated deficit irrigation strategies for table olives in this region could be beneficial to further reduce irrigation.  相似文献

Regulated Deficit Irrigation (RDI) is an irrigation scheduling technique, originally developed for fruit orchards, that has been successfully adapted for winegrape production. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of RDI in vegetative growth, yield and harvest quality in ‘Tempranillo’ vineyards grown under semiarid conditions typical in Mediterranean areas. Two RDI strategies were compared with conventional irrigation practices (CI). CI that consisted in a progressive increase in water deficit as summer progressed, whereas RDI strategies (RDI1 and RDI2) had in common a deficit period just after fruit set and, in RDI2, vines were subjected to an additional stress period shortly after veraison. The experiment was carried out in four consecutive seasons in a commercial vineyard.Water stress at the beginning of berry development resulted in an important reduction of both vegetative growth and berry weight in RDI strategies. No differences in sugar concentration were found between treatments, and RDI berries tended to have lower acidity. The most relevant effect of RDI strategies on grape quality was an increase in anthocyanin and phenolics concentration. In RDI1 berries, this increase was mainly an indirect consequence of smaller berry size. However, in the RDI2 treatment the higher berry anthocyanin concentration reported was not exclusively due to a reduction in berry size. Since harvest quality has been clearly improved by any of the RDI strategies in both years, it can be concluded that RDI constitutes an interesting technique to be applied in ‘Tempranillo’ vineyards grown in semiarid areas aiming to obtain high quality grape.  相似文献

Water for irrigation is in short supply worldwide, therefore reduced irrigation options will have to be explored. We did this for ‘Golden Smoothee’ apple over the growing seasons of 2003-2005 at the IRTA-Estaciò Experimental de Lleida (41°37′ N; 0° 52′ E; 260 m a.s.l.), Catalonia, Spain. This region has a temperate climate with winter-dominant rainfall. Averages of annual rainfall and reference evapotranspiration over 2000-2009 were, respectively, 371 and 1023 mm. The treatments were: Control (C), receiving full irrigation; spring irrigation (SI), where at the budbreak 80 mm of water was applied followed by watering so that the total water applied in the season was either at 33% of C (SI-33) or at 50% of C (SI-50); and deficit irrigation (DI), where trees were irrigated either with 33% of C (DI-33) or with 50% of C (DI-50). Water in DI was applied either through one dripper per tree (DI-33-1d and DI-50-1d) or through two drippers per tree (DI-33-2d and DI-50-2d). Trees showed biennial bearing with 2004 being an ‘off-year’ when treatment effects on yield were largely masked by the higher values of stem water potential associated with lower crop loads. SI-50 and SI-33 performed poorly and cannot be recommended. For each of the DI treatments, the one-dripper version increased fresh market yield and fruit size. For example, although DI-50 performed better than DI-33, DI-33-1d was similar in performance to DI-50-2d. Under water shortage, we recommend whole-season application of DI-50-1d and DI-33-1d depending on the availability of water supply.  相似文献

Research on crop response to deficit irrigation is important to reduce agricultural water use in areas where water is a limited resource. Two field experiments were conducted on a loam soil in northeast Spain to characterize the response of maize (Zea mays L.) to deficit irrigation under surface irrigation. The growing season was divided into three phases: vegetative, flowering and grain filling. The irrigation treatments consisted of all possible combinations of full irrigation or limited irrigation in the three phases. Limited irrigation was applied by increasing the interval between irrigations. Soil water status, crop growth, above-ground biomass, yield and its components were measured. Results showed that flowering was the most sensitive stage to water deficit, with reductions in biomass, yield and harvest index. Average grain yield of treatments with deficit irrigation around flowering (691 g m−2) was significantly lower than that of the well-irrigated treatments (1069 g m(2). Yield reduction was mainly due to a lower number of grains per square metre. Deficit irrigation or higher interval between irrigations during the grain filling phase did not significantly affect crop growth and yield. It was possible to maintain relatively high yields in maize if small water deficits caused by increasing the interval between irrigations were limited to periods other than the flowering stage. Irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) was higher in treatments fully irrigated around flowering.  相似文献

In this study, changes in carbohydrate composition were investigated at the end of the biological cycle of two important table olive cultivars ‘Meski’ and ‘Picholine’ grown in Tunisia under different irrigation regimes. A control treatment [100% crop evapotranspiration (ETc)] and a stress treatment (50% ETc) were considered. At the end of August, leaf water potential was measured and sugar compounds were determined in mature leaves and in the wood of fruit-bearing branches by gas chromatography. The leaf water potential increased with the stress treatment in both cultivars, but the increase was more pronounced with ‘Picholine’ than with ‘Meski’. Glucose, fructose, mannitol, sucrose, galactose and inositol were the main sugars found in the leaves and wood of olive trees. Glucose, fructose and mannitol accounted for 90% of the total soluble carbohydrate fraction. The fraction and amount of these sugars changed between cultivars and with irrigation treatment. In the control treatment, the leaves of Meski showed a high level of glucose (48%), fructose (19%) and mannitol (25%), while the leaves of Picholine showed amounts of 57, 15 and 17%, respectively. The restriction of irrigation water (50% ETc) induces an accumulation of glucose in the leaves and wood of ‘Meski’ and an accumulation of mannitol and glucose in the wood of ‘Picholine’, while the leaves showed only an increase in mannitol.  相似文献

Water requirements for olive oil production and the effects of deficit irrigation were determined while considering the relative fruit loads on trees occurring as a result of biennial bearing cycles. Two Israeli olive (Olea europaea) varieties (Barnea and Souri) were evaluated for growth and yield parameters in a 4-year field study where five relative irrigation rates were applied. Increasing irrigation increased stem water potential, vegetative growth, and olive fruit yield with the increases tapering off at application rates reaching 75–100% of potential crop evapotranspiration. Tree water status, growth, and fruit characteristic parameters were highly affected by both fruit load and by irrigation level. Oil yield increases as a function of increased irrigation were initiated for each cultivar only following an ‘off’ season when the treatments lead to higher vegetative growth. The increased oil yields as a function of increased irrigation were primarily explained by higher tree-scale capacity for carrying fruit, especially as irrigation alleviated measureable water stress. For the Barnea cultivar in ‘on’ years, a secondary effect due to increased oil per fruit as irrigation increased was evident, particularly at the higher application rates.  相似文献

The effects of mid-summer regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) treatments were investigated on Clementina de Nules citrus trees over three seasons. Water restrictions applied from July, once the June physiological fruit drop had finished, until mid September were compared with a Control treatment irrigated during all the season to match full crop evapotranspiration (ETc). Two degrees of water restrictions were imposed based on previous results also obtained in Clementina de Nules trees ( [Ginestar and Castel, 1996] and [González-Altozano and Castel, 1999]). During the RDI period, deficit irrigation was applied based on given reductions over the ETc, but also taking into account threshold values of midday stem water potential (Ψs) of −1.3 to −1.5 MPa for RDI-1 and of −1.5 to −1.7 MPa for RDI-2. Results showed that water savings achieved in the RDI-2 treatment impaired yield by reducing fruit size. On the contrary, the RDI-1 strategy allowed for 20% water savings, with a reduction in tree growth but without any significant reduction in yield, fruit size nor in the economic return when irrigation was resumed to normal dose about three months before harvest. Water use efficiency (WUE) in the RDI trees was similar or even higher than in Control trees. RDI improved fruit quality increasing total soluble solids (TSS) and titratable acidity (TA). In conclusion, we suggest that the RDI-1 strategy here evaluated can be applied in commercial orchards not only in case of water scarcity, but also as a tool to control vegetative growth improving fruit composition and reducing costs associated with the crop management.  相似文献

In eastern India, cultivation of winter maize is getting popular after rainy season rice and farmers practice irrigation scheduling of this crop based on critical phenological stages. In this study, crop water stress index of winter maize at different critical stages wase determined to investigate if phenology-based irrigation scheduling could be optimized further. The components of the energy budget of the crop stand were computed. The stressed and non-stressed base lines were also developed (between canopy temperature and vapor pressure deficit) and with the help of base line equation, [(T c − T a) = −1.102 VPD − 3.772], crop water stress index (CWSI) was determined from the canopy-air temperature data collected frequently throughout the growing season. The values of CWSI (varied between 0.42 and 0.67) were noted just before the irrigations were applied at critical phenological stages. The soil moisture depletion was also measured throughout the crop growing period and plotted with CWSI at different stages. Study revealed that at one stage (silking), CWSI was much lower (0.42–0.48) than that of recommended CWSI (0.60) for irrigation scheduling. Therefore, more research is required to further optimize the phenology-based irrigation scheduling of winter maize in the region. This method is being used now by local producers. The intercepted photosynthetically active radiation and normalized difference vegetation index over the canopy of the crop were also measured and were found to correlate better with leaf area index.  相似文献

Plant age and size, seasonal growth patters and crop load, among other factors, have been reported to decrease the usefulness of trunk diameter variation (TDV) derived indices as water stress indicators in olive trees. Our hypothesis, however, is that indices derived from TDV records in old, big olive trees are sensitive enough to detect levels of water stress in trees of orchards under deficit irrigation that, although severe, are below the threshold for fruit shrivelling. This is of importance for the production of good quality oils, since fruit shrivelling may affect oil quality. The aim of this work was to assess different TDV-derived indices as water stress indicators in 40-year-old ‘Manzanilla’ olive trees with heavy crop load. We derived the maximum daily shrinkage (MDS), daily growth (DG) and daily recovery (DR) from TDV records taken during the 2008 dry season both in well-irrigated FAO trees and in deficit-irrigated RI trees. Measurements of volumetric soil water content (θv), leaf water potential (Ψl), stomatal conductance (gs), net CO2 assimilation rate (A), water and oil accumulation in the fruits and yield parameters were made for both treatments. The trunks did not grow during the experimental season, either in the FAO or RI trees, likely because of the heavy crop load. Therefore, DG was useless as water stress indicator. For MDS and DR, which were responsive to the increase of the trees’ water stress, we calculated the variability, quantified by the coefficient of variation (CV), the signal intensity (SI) and the sensitivity (SI/CV) values. In addition, we derived reference equations for irrigation scheduling from the relationships between MDS values in the FAO trees and main meteorological variables. Values both of SI-MDS and SI-DR were steady until September 9, despite of increasing differences in θv between treatments from early in the dry season. The Ψl vs θv values showed an outstanding capacity of the RI trees to take up water from the drying soil, and the Ψl vs gs values showed a near-isohydric behaviour of those deficit-irrigated trees. These results explain, at least in part, the lack of response of MDS and DR on that period. Both SI-MDS and SI-DR peaked for the first time on September 9, 16 days before the appearance of fruit shrivelling. Our results suggest that using TDV-derived indices as water stress indicators for irrigation scheduling in old olive orchards with medium to low plant densities, i.e. with large root zones, may be useless in case the irrigation strategy is aimed at keeping the soil close to field capacity. Nevertheless, the MDS and DR indices may be useful indicators for the avoidance of fruit shrivelling in deficit irrigated olive orchards for the production of good quality oil. Reliable reference equations for scheduling irrigation with the signal intensity approach were obtained from the regression of MDS values vs the daily maximum values of both the air temperature and the vapour pressure deficit of the air.  相似文献

Knowledge of crop production in suboptimal environmental conditions not only helps to sustain crop production but also aids in the design of low-input systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of water stress imposed at low-sensitive growth stages (vegetative, reproductive, and both vegetative and reproductive) and level of nitrogen (N) supply (100 and 200 kg ha−1) on the physiological and agronomic characteristics of two hybrids of maize (Zea mays L.). A two-site field experiment was carried out using a randomized complete block design with three replications and a split-factorial arrangement. A water deficit (WD) was induced by withholding irrigation at different stages of crop development. The results showed that proline content increased and the relative water content, leaf greenness, 100-kernel weight and grain yield decreased under conditions of WD. The highest IWUE was obtained when maize endured WD at vegetative stage at two sites. The limited irrigation imposed on maize during reproductive stage resulted in more yield reduction than that during vegetative stage, compared with fully irrigated treatment. The 100-kernel weight was the most sensitive yield component to determine the yield variation in maize plant when the WD treatments were imposed in low-sensitive growth stages. The results of the statistical regression analysis showed liner relationships between RGR during a period bracketing the V8 or R3 stages and 100-kernel weight in all the WD treatments. The increase of N supply improved yield and IWUE when maize plant endured once irrigation shortage at vegetative stage. But, the performance of high N fertilizer reduced and eliminated when water deficit imposed once at reproductive stage and twice at vegetative and reproductive stages, respectively. Furthermore, the response of T.C647 hybrid to increase of N supply was stronger than S.C647 hybrid.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to quantify and compare the effects of two different deficit irrigation (DI) strategies (regulated deficit irrigation, or RDI, and partial rootzone drying, PRD) on almond (Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb) fruit growth and quality. Five irrigation treatments, ranging from moderate to severe water restriction, were applied: (i) full irrigation (FI), irrigated to satisfy the maximum crop water requirements (ETc); (ii) regulated deficit irrigation (RDI), receiving 50% of ETc during the kernel-filling stage and at 100% ETc throughout the remaining periods; and three PRD treatments – PRD70, PRD50 and PRD30 – irrigated at 70%, 50% and 30% ETc, respectively, during the whole growth season. The DI treatments did not affect the overall fruit growth pattern compared to the FI treatment, but they had a negative impact on the final kernel dry weight for the most stressed treatments. The allocation of water to the different components of the fruit, characterized by the fresh weight ratio of kernel to fruit, appeared to be the process most clearly affected by DI. Attributes of the kernel chemical composition (lipid, protein, sugar and organic acid contents) were not negatively affected by the intensity of water deprivation. Overall, our results indicated that PRD did not present a clear advantage (or disadvantage) over RDI with regard to almond fruit growth and quality.  相似文献

This study investigated the impact of using treated wastewater and deficit irrigation on yield, water productivity, dry matter and soil moisture availability. The experiment included six treatments of deficit irrigation with treated wastewater during the 2010 and 2011 seasons and two deficit irrigation treatments combined with 3 organic amendment levels during the 2012 season. The experimental and SALTMED modelling results indicated that regulated deficit irrigation when applied during vegetative growth stage could stimulate root development, increase water and nutrient uptake and subsequently increase the yield. The organic amendment has slightly improved yield under full irrigation but had relatively small effect under stress conditions. The SALTMED model results supported and matched the experimental results and showed similar differences among the different treatments. The model proved its ability to predict soil moisture availability, yield, water productivity and total dry matter for three growing seasons under several deficit irrigation strategies using treated wastewater. The high values of the coefficient of determination R 2 reflected a very good agreement between the model and observed values. The SALTMED model results generally confirm the model’s ability to predict sweet corn growth and productivity under deficit irrigation strategies in the semi-arid region.  相似文献

The effects of multiple irrigation regimes on the relationships among tree water status, vegetative growth and productivity within a super-high-density (SHD) “Arbequina” olive grove (1950 tree/ha) were studied for three seasons (2008–2010). Five different irrigation levels calculated as percentage of crop irrigation requirement using FAO procedures (Allen et al. in Crop evapotranspiration. Guidelines for computing crop water requirements. Irrigation and drainage paper 56. FAO, Rome, 1998) were imposed during the growing season. Periodically during the growing season, daytime stem water potential (Ψ STEM), inflorescences per branch, fruits per inflorescence and shoot absolute growth rate were measured. Crop yield, fruit average fresh weight and oil polyphenol content were measured after harvest. The midday Ψ STEM ranged from ?7 to ?1.5 MPa and correlated well enough with yield efficiency, crop density and fruit fresh weight to demonstrate its utility as a precise method for determining water status in SHD olive orchards. The relationships between midday Ψ STEM and the horticultural parameters suggest maintaining Ψ STEM values between ?3.5 and ?2.5 MPa is optimal for moderate annual yields of good quality oil. Values below ?3.5 MPa reduced current season productivity, while values over ?2.5 MPa were less effective in increasing productivity, reduced oil quality and produced excessive crop set that strongly affected vegetative growth and fruit production the following season. On the basis of the result given here, irrigation scheduling in the new SHD orchards should be planned on a 2-year basis and corrected annually based on crop load. Collectively, these results suggest that deficit irrigation management is a viable strategy for SHD olive orchards.  相似文献

通过5种灌水处理模式和对照旱地油葵田间试验,探讨了灌水模式对油葵耗水量、产量、水分利用效率以及经济收入的影响。结果表明,油葵出盘前和灌浆后耗水量比其他时段多50%以上。在油葵不同生育阶段耗水量随着灌水量增加而增加;灌水定额120mm,灌两次水的灌水模式的产量最高,为2268kg/hm^2,而水分利用效率最大值出现在灌水定额66mm的灌水模式,灌水量增加反而使水分利用效率下降。经济分析结果表明,纯收入最高值出现在灌水模式93mm灌二水的处理,为2871元/hm^2,灌水定额增加或减少均导致经济收入下降。统计分析结果表明,干旱年份(全生育期有效降水量123mm)灌二水时,为了兼顾产量、水分利用效率以及经济收入,油葵最佳总灌水量以208-218mm为宜。全生育期有效降水量超过350mm的丰水年份不应该再灌水。  相似文献

A field experiment was carried out over three seasons on Vitis vinifera cv. Tempranillo in order to compare pre-veraison and post-veraison water restrictions on vine performance and fruit composition. Rain-fed vines were compared with a treatment named MAX that was constantly irrigated at 75?% of the estimated crop evapotranspiration (ETc). In addition, an early (pre-veraison) water deficit strategy (ED) was applied by withholding irrigation until plant water stress experienced by vines surpassed a threshold value of midday stem water potential of ?1.0?MPa. After that, 75?% of ETc was applied. A late season deficit (LD) treatment was irrigated as per the MAX up to veraison, and thereafter, water application was reduced to approximately 37?% of ETc. All irrigation regimes increased vine yield up to 58?% with respect to the rain-fed treatment, and no differences in yield among the irrigated treatments occurred. However, there were differences in berry composition among the different irrigation strategies. The ED strategy was more effective than the LD one in reducing berry growth leading to more concentrated berries in terms of sugars and anthocyanins. The LD water shortage impaired berry sugar accumulation due to the detrimental effect of water stress on leaf photosynthesis.  相似文献

Precision irrigation management and scheduling, as well as developing site- and cultivar-specific crop coefficient (Kc), and yield response factor to water deficit (ky) are very important parameters for efficient use of limited water resources. This study investigated the effect of deficit irrigation, applied at different growth stages of peanut with sprinkler irrigation in sandy soil, on field peanut evapotranspiration (ETc), yield and yield components, and water use efficiencies (IWUE and WUE). Also, yield response factor to water deficit (ky), and site- and cultivar-specific Kc were developed. Four treatments were imposed to deficit irrigation during late vegetative and early flowering, late flowering and early pegging, pegging, and pod formation growth stages of peanut, and compared with full irrigation in the course of the season (control). A soil water balance equation was used to estimate crop evapotranspiration (ETc). The results revealed that maximum seasonal ETc was 488 mm recorded with full irrigation treatment. The maximum value of Kc (0.96) occurred at the fifth week after sowing, this value was less than the generic values listed in FAO-33 and -56 (1.03 and 1.15), respectively. Dry kernels yield among treatments differed by 41.4%. Deficit irrigation significantly affected yields, where kernels yield decreased by 28, 39, 36, and 41% in deficit-irrigated late vegetative and early flowering, late flowering and early pegging, pegging, and pod formation growth stages, respectively, compared with full irrigation treatment. Peanut yields increased linearly with seasonal ETc (R2 = 0.94) and ETc/ETp (R2 = 0.92) (ETp = ETc with no water stress). The yield response factor (ky), which indicates the relative reduction in yield to relative reduction in ETc, averaged 2.9, was higher than the 0.7 value reported by Doorenbos and Kassam [Doorenbos, J., Kassam, A.H., 1979. Yield response to water. FAO Irrigation and Drainage Paper 33, Rome, Italy, 193 pp.], the high ky value reflects the great sensitivity of peanut (cv. Giza 5) to water deficit. WUE values varied considerably with deficit irrigation treatments, averaging 6.1 and 4.5 kg ha−1 mm−1 (dry-mass basis) for pods and kernels, respectively. Differences in WUE between the driest and wettest treatment were 31.3 and 31.3% for pods and kernels, respectively. Deficit irrigation treatments, however, impacted IWUE much more than WUE. Differences in IWUE between the driest and wettest treatment were 33.9 and 33.9% for pods and kernels, respectively. The results revealed that better management of available soil water in the root zone in the course of the season, as well as daily and seasonal accurate estimation of ETc can be an effective way for best irrigation scheduling and water allocation, maximizing yield, and optimizing economic return.  相似文献

The successful application of postharvest regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) over ten consecutive years (from season 1999/2000 to season 2007/2008) confirms the sustainability of this strategy for producing ‘Algerie’ loquat. Postharvest RDI consisting in a reduction of watering (between 45 and 80% depending on the season) from early June until the end of August, improved loquat profitability by increasing fruit value and by reducing water consumption with respect to fully irrigated trees (control). The increase in fruit value in RDI trees was due to a consistent improvement in harvest earliness as a result of an earlier blooming. Water savings of around 20% did not diminish yield nor fruit quality. Water use efficiency in RDI trees rose by over 30%. Water productivity reached 9.5 € m−3 of water applied in RDI trees versus 6.6 € m−3 in control trees. The most noticeable effect of RDI on vegetative growth was a significant and progressive decline in trunk growth. The canopy volume seems to be strongly influenced by pruning and no significant effects were detected in this parameter. Our results confirm the suitability of RDI in loquat and the economic benefits of saving water during the summer.  相似文献

The response of adult Fino lemon trees (Citrus limon L. Burm. fil.) on sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) to an irrigation schedule based exclusively on maximum daily trunk shrinkage (MDS) measurements was studied during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. Plants irrigated above their crop water requirements (T0 treatment) were compared with plants under deficit irrigation, whereby the MDS signal intensity (actual MDS/reference MDS) threshold values were maintained at around 1.15 (T1 treatment), 1.25 (T2 treatment) and 1.35 (T3 treatment). Cumulative crop evapotranspiration (ETc) values reached 536.9 and 719.4 mm during the first and the second season, respectively, and the cumulative amounts of applied water in the deficit irrigation treatments were 662.4 mm (T1, 2006-2007 season), 396.3 mm (T2, 2005-2006 season), 554.0 mm (T2, 2006-2007 season) and 220.3 mm (T3, 2005-2006 season), which generated mild, moderate and severe water stress in T1, T2 and T3 plants, respectively. Results indicated that measurements of MDS are suitable for scheduling irrigation, except for rainy periods of low evaporative demand. Therefore, to improve the precision of irrigation management, some changes in the irrigation protocol should be introduced, for instance, using higher MDS signal intensity threshold values and/or a lower irrigation frequency. According to market demand, lemon fruits were harvested on two occasions, showing no effect of irrigation treatment on total yield and total number of fruits per tree. T2 and T3 treatments resulted in a lower yield and number of fruits per tree at the first harvest and modified fruit characteristics. In contrast, the yield at first harvest and number of fruits per tree was not affected in T1 (92% ETc) plants and fruit characteristics were hardly impaired.  相似文献

The effects of regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) and partial root-zone irrigation (PRI) strategies that apply the same irrigation volumes on vegetative and reproductive development were analyzed during a 3-year-period in field-grown Monastrell grapevines under semiarid conditions. Five treatments were applied: control irrigated at 60?% ETc (crop evapotranspiration) for the whole season (308?mm?year?1); RDI-1 and PRI-1 that received the same irrigation as the control before fruit set, 30?% ETc from fruit set to harvest and 45?% ETc post-harvest (192?mm?year?1); and RDI-2 and PRI-2 that were the same, except with 15?% ETc from fruit set to harvest (142?mm?year?1). Distinctive PRI effects on vegetative and reproductive development were observed depending on the total soil water content and the vine water stress level. PRI-1 vines showed less restriction of vegetative growth, lower leaf abscission, and higher leaf area during post-veraison than RDI-1 vines. Higher supply of water (close to field capacity) via half of the root system in PRI-1 vines maintained better water supply and more favorable phloem sap flow (water and carbohydrates) into the fruit during post-veraison and showed a positive differential effect on fruit growth compared with RDI-1 vines. This was reflected in a higher solute content per berry (12?% higher) and higher fresh berry weight (8?% higher) at harvest in PRI-1 compared to RDI-1 berries. However, this positive effect in fruit growth was not reflected in either an improved final yield or the water use efficiency of PRI-1 vines. In PRI-2, the soil water in the wet half was insufficient to maintain more favorable shoot water supply and phloem sap flow into the berry, and no substantial changes were observed in vine vigor, leaf and fruit growth between PRI-2 and RDI-2. Higher irrigation amount in the wet root zone and higher depth of irrigation under PRI seem to be more effective for 1103P–Mourvedre combination to produce a favorable effect in berry growth and development.  相似文献
