Six insecticides (terbufos, chlorpyrifos, ethoprophos, phoxim, bendiocarb and lindane) were tested against sugar-cane wireworm Agrypnus variabilis (Candèze) in maize. The first five insecticides were applied at 0·25, 0·5 and 0·75 kg a.i./ha (2·27, 4·55 and 6·82 g a.i./100 metres of row) while lindane was applied at the registered rate of 0·29 kg a.i./ha (2·64 g a.i./100 metres of row). In addition, bendiocarb was applied as a seed treatment at the rates of 4000 and 6000 ppm. The insecticides were applied at planting as insecticide/fertilizer mixtures in 18 cm wide bands, 2–3 cm below the soil surface and 3–5 cm above the seed. The minimum effective rates were terbufos 0·25 kg a.i./ha, lindane 0·25 kg a.i./ha and chlorpyrifos and ethoprophos both at 0·5 kg a.i./ha. These treatments gave at least 5 weeks' residual control. The bendiocarb seed treatments were phytotoxic. No residues were detected in the cobs or grain at the minimum effective rates of the terbufos, chlorpyrifos or ethoprophos treatments. The positive linear relationship between plant population and yield showed that for every 1% loss in plant stand below the optimum range of 60 000–65 000 plants/ha, there is a 0·72-0·74% loss in grain yield respectively. Control measures would be economically justified with only a 2·3% reduction in plant stand (assuming $20/ha for cost of control and $150/tonne for maize).  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted in which foliage-acting herbicides were applied to onion couch (Arrhenatherum elatius ssp. bulbosum). The first experiment used an artificially established population and investigated the effects of straw burning on the performance of autumn-applied treatments of glyphosate, aminotriazole and dalapon. Spring barley was sown without cultivation. The second experiment, conducted on a naturally occurring infestation, compared the performance of glyphosate applied at alternative autumn timings and a single application of flamprop-methyl made in the following spring, in the presence of a winter wheat crop. In the first experiment, assessments made after 15 months suggested that straw burning resulted in increased growth. In addition, herbicide performance appeared less effective after burning. In neither case were these differences significant. Glyphosate at 1·0 and 1·5 kg a.e./ha gave the highest levels of control of both shoots and bulbs, whereas control from aminotriazole at all doses (1·5, 3·0 and 4·5 kg a.i./ha) was poor. Dalapon (6·0, 12·0 and 18·0 kg a.i./ha) was intermediate in its effectiveness. In the second experiment, applications of glyphosate at 1·0 and 1·5 kg a.e./ha resulted in high levels of control of both shoots and bulbs with no significant difference between application dates. Flamprop-methyl at 0·52 kg a.i./ha reduced the number of shoots and bulbs by 55% and 58% respectively. All treatments significantly reduced the number of inflorescences present in July.  相似文献

Two field experiments were conducted at Ngala in the Lake Chad Basin during the 1981 and 1982 wet seasons to investigate chemical weed control in direct-seeded, irrigated rice (Oryza sativa L.). Pre-plant-incorporated, pre- and post-emergence herbicides and their mixtures were tested in replicated, completely randomized block trials. Rice variety IR 28 was drilled each season at 125 kg/ha and fertilized with N (150 kg/ha) and P2O5 (40 kg/ha). In both seasons, the post-emergence herbicides propanil + oxadiazon at 3·0 + 1·0 kg a.i./ha, propanil+fluorodifen at 1·4 + 1·8 kg a.i./ha, propanil + bentazone at 3·6 + 1·5 kg a.i./ha and propanil at 3·6 kg a.i./ha as well as thiobencarb applied pre-emergence at 5·0 kg a.i./ha controlled the weeds effectively and gave similar grain yields to that from hand-weeding twice, and significantly higher grain yield than the unweeded control treatments. Grain yields similar to those from the ‘two hand-weeding control’ were achieved also by use of the herbicide dymrone at 3·0 kg a.i./ha, either soil-incorporated pre-sowing or sprayed before weed emergence. The herbicides gave satisfactory control of the weeds, which were predominantly the broad-leaved weed Luffa echinata Roxb., together with the grasses Sorghum aethiopicum (Hack.) Rupr. ex Stapf., Echinochloa colona (L.) Link, Eleusine indica (L) Gaertn, Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop., Oryza longistaminata (Chev. & Roehr.), and sedges Cyperus rotundus L. and Cyperus esculentus L. The studies indicate that effective weed control by these herbicides and herbicide mixtures are dependable alternatives to hand weeding for direct-seeded, irrigated rice cultivation in the Chad Basin area.  相似文献

Field trials were conducted in the Nigerian savanna to evaluate the performance of various herbicide mixtures for weed control in chilli pepper (Capsicum frutescens L. var. Serrano chilli) during the wet seasons of 1982 to 1984 and in the 1982/83 dry season. Linuron at 0·5 kg or 0·75 kg a.i./ha in mixture with either alachlor at 1·5 kg, metolachlor at 1·5 kg, oxadiazon at 1·5 kg, or diphenamid at 3·0 kg, as well as metolachlor plus metobromuron at 1·0 + 1·0 kg and 1·5 + 1·5 kg a.i./ha all followed by supplementary hoe-weeding at 6 weeks after transplanting combined effective weed control with high chilli pepper fruit yields comparable to the hoe-weeded control in all the trials. Unchecked weed growth throughout the crop life cycle resulted in an 86–90% reduction in potential chilli pepper fruit yields.  相似文献

Several pesticides were evaluated singly and in combination or mixtures for their effectiveness against insects, nematodes, diseases and weeds in cowpea at Ibadan and Amakama in Nigeria. Of the granular insecticides/nematicides, carbofuran at 3·0 kg a.i./ha applied at planting reduced the population of thrips (Megalurothrips sjostedti) below control level up to 42 days after planting, but did not appear to translocate to the pods. Ethoprofos, isazophos and phorate were ineffective against thrips. Carbofuran also showed excellent control of the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita. The herbicides metolachlor and fluorodifen generally kept the plots weed-free up to 35 days after planting but had no effect on the nematodes. The fungicide benomyl applied as a seed treatment was not effective against web blight (Corticium solani) and brown blotch (Colletotrichum truncatum) but, when applied as a wettable powder in combination with monocrotophos as a foliar spray, offered effective control of the diseases and the combination gave the best grain yield across locations. The possible use of carbofuran with a cowpea variety that is resistant to larvae of the pod-boring moth (Maruca testulalis) is discussed.  相似文献

Asulam applied in April 1981 and 1982 gave good control of established plants of Bromus sterilis growing in Italian and perennial ryegrass crops grown for seed. Doses of 1–3 kg a.i./ha reduced numbers of weed inflorescences by 65–90%. The results also showed that there was no effect on crop heading and further suggested that seed yield had not been reduced. Two pot experiments also indicated the efficacy of asulam at 0·5-2 kg a.i./ha applied pre-emergence and further study of such treatment in the autumn during the establishment of a ryegrass seed crop is warranted.  相似文献

The systemic insecticides aldicarb 15G (15% granules) at 2·6 kg active ingredient (a.i.)/ha and phorate 1OG (10% granules) at 1·7 kg a.i./ha, applied as side dressings about 1 month after planting in 1979 and 1980, significantly increased the severity of root rot, caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn, in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Carbofuran 10G (10% granules) at 2·2 kg a.i./ha also increased root rot, but not significantly. Numbers of harvestable roots were reduced by all treatments but significantly by phorate only. Both aldicarb and phorate were slightly fungistatic to R. solani when the pathogen was grown on potato-dextrose agar incorporating 0·5, 5·0, and 25 μg a.i./ml. Trichoderma sp., a potential antagonist of Rhizoctonia, was slightly inhibited by aldicarb and phorate initially, but soon overcame the effect. Thus, the increase in disease severity in the field may be attributable to some metabolic or physiological effect of the chemicals either on the host or on the infection process of the pathogen. Indiscriminate use of these insecticides should therefore be avoided in areas where root rot is prevalent but where insects are not a problem.  相似文献

Control of speckled leaf blotch (Mycosphaerella graminicola) of wheat (Triticum aestivum) with systemic fungicides used as seed treatments or foliar sprays was studied. Seed treatment with either imazalil (1·125 g/kg seed), nuarimol (0·2 g/kg), thiabendazole (1·5 and 0·75 g/kg), triadimenol (0·3 and 0·2 g/kg) or Shell WL 47675 (0·415 g/kg) reduced the number of infected plants by 28–62% when assessments were made 11 weeks after sowing. Thiabendazole (1·5 and 0·75 g/kg) and triadimefon (0·3 and 0·2 g/kg) slowed the development of speckled leaf blotch for c. 15 weeks after sowing. A single foliar spray of triadimefon (125 g/ha) slowed the development of the disease for c. 10 weeks, but a single spray of benomyl controlled it for the whole season. There was no additional benefit from combining a seed treatment of triadimefon (0·225 g/kg) with the foliar spray.  相似文献

Colonization of rice fields by the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) (Homoptera: Delphacidae), was monitored using yellow pan oil-water traps. In approximately 3 months, 35 788 immigrant macropters (1·0 ♂: 1·2 ♀) were caught in 512 traps installed over a 0·352 ha rice field. The trend of daily trap catches conformed closely to the number of macropters visually counted on rice hills. In sub-plots with a trap crop planted 20 days earlier than the main crop on a quarter of the total crop area, more macropters were recorded on trap-crop than on main-crop rows up to about 75 days after transplanting the main crop. In control sub-plots with one planting, more hoppers arrived on the middle than on the border rows. A blanket spray application of Perthane (0·75 kg a.i./ha) was made on the crop in control sub-plots, whereas only the trap crop was sprayed in trapped sub-plots. The combined yield in each treatment with trap crop was significantly higher than in the control treatment.  相似文献

The uptake and translocation of daminozide and the triethanolamine salt of 2,4-D(2,4-D-TEOA) were determined radiochemically 24 h after application to leaves of Vicia faba (field bean). Chemicals were applied in aqueous solutions as monosize spray drops of varying diameters (50–500 μm), the volume median diameter (VMD):number median diameter (NMD) ratio of the droplet spectra being < 1 · 03. Daminozide was applied at concentrations of 0·17–2·4 g/l in volumes of 10–90 l/ha, providing doses of 5–215 g/ha. 2,4-D-TEOA was applied at 0·20–5·0 g acid equivalent (a.e.) per litre in 20–190 l/ha to provide doses of 4–420 g a.e. per hectare. Uptake of daminozide was 9·3 ± 2·6% (mean ± standard deviation), of which 26 ± 4·4% was translocated out of the treated leaflet, with 25 ± 6·5% of the translocated 14C being redistributed in an acropetal direction. Equivalent values for 2,4-D-TEOA were: 16 ± 5·5% uptake, 70 ± 8·0% translocation and 12 ± 4·9% acropetal redistribution. The quantity of both chemicals taken up increased with increasing dose (r2 > 0·92). Multiple regression analyses demonstrated that the efficiency of uptake (%) of both chemicals was not related to drop size or number, leaf coverage, concentration of active ingredient (a.i.) or application volume. For both chemicals, percentage uptake was inversely related to applied dose, and uptake and translocation were interrelated.  相似文献

ULV carbaryl and DDT were applied to cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) at two sites, five times a week, using five swath widths from 4·5 to 18 m, representing high to low dosages. Sprays were applied between 0830 and 1400 h during the day or between 1830 and 2100 h during the evening. Subsequently, Bemisia spp. (whitefly) and Paurocephala gossypii Russell (psyllid) populations were significantly larger on plants treated with lower dosages applied over wide swaths. Yields of seed cotton were significantly lower from plants treated with low dosages (< 0·5 kg a.i./ha weekly) but the results of spraying in the morning and in the evening were comparable, at both sites.  相似文献

Matacil® (aminocarb)_180F flowable insecticide mixed in both water and insectide diluent ID585 and Matacil 1 · 8D oil-soluble concentrate (OSC) mixed in ID585 were sprayed aerially at 70 g a.i./1 · 51 of spray mix/ha in two applications to control spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.). The spray droplet density on Kromekote cards, the spray volume recovered on glass slides, larval population reductions and host tree defoliation were compared. The data indicate that Matacil 180F was as effective in controlling budworm populations and protecting the foliage of host trees as Matacil 1 · 8D and that the aqueous mix was as efficacious as the ID585 mix.  相似文献

In order to investigate the effect of trifluralin, pronamide, haloxyfop-p methyl, propaquizafop and isoxaben on weed control and oilseed rape yield, a two year field experiment was conducted at Darab, Iran, during 2004–2005 and 2005–2006 growing seasons. Herbicides reduced weed biomass compared with the weedy check. In 2004–2005, at 16 WAP (weeks after planting), application of trifluralin plus propaquizafop plus isoxaben at 1200 + 200 + 250 g a.i./ha and trifluralin plus haloxyfop-p methyl plus isoxaben at 1200 + 100 + 500 g a.i./ha provided best control (80%) of wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis L.), compared to other treatments. At 8 and 16 WAP, wild mustard control decreased to 47 and 42%, respectively, when trifluralin was applied alone at 1400 g a.i./ha. In 2005–2006 at 16 WAP, maximum reduction in wild mustard biomass (82%) was achieved with trifluralin plus propaquizafop plus isoxaben at 1200 + 200 + 250 g a.i./ha. In both years, all herbicide treatments controlled fumitory (Fumaria officinalis L.) 64–96%. In 2004–2005, at 16 WAP, wild oat (Avena fatua L.) biomass reduction by trifluralin plus propaquizafop plus isoxaben at 1200 + 200 + 250 g a.i./ha was 95%. In 2005–2006, at 8 and 16 WAP, minimum biomass reduction of wild oat (37–53%) was observed with trifluralin at 1200 and 1400 g a.i./ha. In both years, at 8 and 16 WAP, the most effective herbicide treatments were trifluralin plus propaquizafop plus isoxaben and trifluralin plus haloxyfop-p methyl plus isoxaben regardless of the dose applied and provided maximum reduction in total weed biomass (77–89%) compared to other treatments. Results of both years showed that all herbicide treatments increased oilseed rape grain yield as compared with the weedy check but percentage of oil was not affected by various herbicide treatments. Maximum grain yield was obtained with trifluralin plus haloxyfop-p methyl plus isoxaben at 1200 + 100 + 500 g a.i./ha.  相似文献

The introduction of ULV (ultra-low-volume) spraying to cotton farmers in western Tanzania in the early 1970s was a major contribution to the cotton industry as the control of cotton insect pests was made easier and possible in many areas. However, spray drift and increased cost of ULV insecticides and batteries have been major constraints to ULV spraying in recent years, so a spraying technique allowing greater efficacy and reduced costs is needed. Trials to assess the potential of electrodynamic spraying as an alternative to ULV spraying started in western Tanzania in 1979. The present study assessed swath width, dosage rates and farmer's reaction to the ‘Electrodyn’® hand-held sprayer as compared with the hand-held spinning-disc sprayer (Micron ULVA), currently used by farmers in Tanzania, in order to identify the optimum combination package to be recommended to farmers. Cypermethrin ED applied at a dosage rate of 15·8–31·6 g a.i./ha by the Electrodyn sprayer over a swath width of 3·0 m gave good control of H. armigera. Yields of seed cotton were comparable to those with ULV cypermethrin applied at a dosage rate of 62·5 g a.i./ha. The spray volume was reduced from 2·5 l/ha applied with the spinning disc to 0·35 l/ha with electrodynamic spraying. Reduced drift, dosage of active ingredient and volume rates, and reduction in the number of batteries needed in a season, were among the major advantages of electrodynamic spraying over ULV spraying in western Tanzania.  相似文献

A programme of investigation was started in mid-1977 in Spain into the performance of the ‘Electrodyn’ sprayer for the control of insect pests on cotton. The first stages of the programme, reported in this paper, evaluated the effect on spray deposition and distribution of emission height, speed of travel, wind speed, and position of the ‘Electrodyn’ sprayer nozzle relative to the row, in order to define the optimum method of use. In replicated field trials ultra-low-volume low volatile formulations were applied and performance was measured by assessing subjectively fluorescent spray deposition and distribution over samples of all plant structures at two heights in the plant. Plants were sampled from one row upwind and three rows downwind from each single spray run. The overall distribution of fully charged spray from the ‘Electrodyn’ sprayer was, in general, similar to that of discharged spray applied by the ‘Electrodyn’, with more than 80% deposited on ‘top’ leaves. A smaller proportion of the fully charged spray cloud penetrated to the lower half of the crop than did discharged spray. Variability from leaf to leaf was less and, of the total spray recovered, the proportion deposited on the main stem and branches in the top of the plant was four times greater, with charged than discharged spray. Cover of a greater part of the circumference of stems and branches and the only significant underleaf cover (the ‘wrap-around’ effect) was achieved by charged spray in the top of the plant and there was a concentration of spray at the tips and edges of leaves and bracts. Subjective assessments of deposition showed that 2·5 times more spray was recovered in the crop when charged than when discharged In practice the improvement could range from about 1·25 to 5 times depending upon the efficiency of the conventional system. Different speeds of travel, between 0·5 and 1·5 m/s (the highest reported) did not affect pest-control performance. An optimum mode of use was devised to facilitate subsequent comparisons of pest control between the ‘Electrodyn’ sprayer, rotary atomizers, and hydraulic nozzle sprayers. The ‘Electrodyn’ sprayer should be held downwind of the operator. At a nominal walking speed of 1·0 m/s in cotton less than 0·4 m tall, the nozzle is held 0·2 m directly above the row and all rows are sprayed: in taller cotton (0·4–1·5 m) the nozzle is held above the inter-row space and either taken along every inter-row with the nozzle 0·2–0·4 m above the crop, or, for low input/high risk crops (minimum levels of pest control) the nozzle is taken along alternate inter-rows, 0·4–0·5 m above the crop.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted in 2006 and 2007 to determine the agronomic performance and nutritive value of Sorghum almum for introduction in the derived savannah area of Nigeria. The experiment was arranged in a 2 × 4 factorial design with 2 plant spacings (0·5 × 0·5 m and 1·0 × 1·0 m) and 4 nitrogen (N) fertilizer levels (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg N ha?1). Plant height, tiller number, leaf proportion, biomass yield and nutritive value of the herbage were evaluated as part of the search for alternatives (especially drought tolerant) to local forages for dry season feeding of ruminants. Herbage yield data were tested for linear, quadratic and cubic trends to identify the optimal fertilizer levels for both spacings. Spacing × N interactions (P < 0·05) were observed for plant height and tiller number in both years. Agronomic performance was marginally better in 2007 compared with 2006. The maximum dry‐matter (DM) yield of 3500 and 3740 kg ha?1 for the more dense row spacing (0·5 × 0·5 m) was achieved at N fertilizer levels of 144 and 149 kg N ha?1 for 2006 and 2007 respectively. For the less dense (1·0 × 1·0 m) row spacing, the maximum DM yield of 3020 and 3240 kg ha?1 was achieved at 51 and 97 kg N ha?1 for 2006 and 2007 respectively. The crude protein content of the grass ranged from 61 to 89 g kg?1 DM, while the neutral detergent fibre (NDF) content ranged from 700 to 734 g kg?1 DM. The ability of S. almum to persist into the second year in this region is seen as a promising index as persistence is one of the characteristics of a good forage plant. Considering the exorbitant price of N fertilizer, less dense row spacing with N fertilizer rate in the range of 50–100 kg N ha?1 is hereby recommended for this region.  相似文献

Aqueous solutions of 1·0 or 10·0 g a.i/l of phosphorous acid (H3PO3) neutralized with KOH and applied as a foliar spray or soil drench inhibited the development of stem lesions on potted almond and cherry plants inoculated with Phytophthora cambivora and in most cases were effective as either 0·25 g a.i./l metalaxyl or 3·2 g a.i./l fosetyl-A1 drenches. Sprays or drenches of 10 g a.i. H3PO3/l were phytotoxic to potted almonds causing marginal leaf scorch, leaf drop and brown necrotic lesions on young shoots. Foliar sprays of 1 g a.i. H3PO3/l or drenches of 20 g a.i. H3PO3/l were not phytotoxic to 4-year-old Mahaleb cherry trees and restricted lesions caused by P. cambivora for up to 17 weeks after application. A 10% neutralized solution of H3PO3 injected directly into the trunk of cherry trees inhibited P. cambivora lesions for a similar period but the treatment was initially phytotoxic.  相似文献

EPTC was tested in glasshouse and field experiments for its potential as a herbicide to control Bromus species in winter cereals. Bromus hordeaceus, Bromus commutatus, Bromus pectinatus and Bromus sterilis were all selectively controlled in barley by EPTC. Winter wheat was found to be susceptible but winter barley tolerated doses up to 2·0 kg a.i./ha. The barley cultivar Sonja was more resistant than both Athene and Maris Otter. In the first field trial, 1·0 kg a.i./ha EPTC reduced B. sterilis plant numbers by 75% giving a barley yield increase of 2·84 t/ha. In the following year 2·0 kg a.i./ha reduced B. sterilis numbers by 54% and increased yield by 1·75 t/ha.  相似文献

Control of stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis) and common bunt (Tilletia caries and T. foetida) of wheat (Triticum aestivum), with fungicides applied on or adjacent to seed at sowing, was studied. Etaconazole pellets (2800 g a.i./ha), fenfuram liquid seed treatment (17 · 5 g a.i./ha) and imazalil granules (5000 g a.i./ha) were phytotoxic, reducing the number of heads per plot. All treatments reduced the incidence of common bunt although benomyl granules (2500 g a.i./ha), benomyl pellets (1400 g a.i./ha) and imazalil granules (5000 g a.i./ha) were not as effective as the registered smut fungicides carboxin, fenfuram, fenaminosulf and triadimefon. Triadimefon pellets (7000 g a.i./ha), PP347 pellets (1400 g a.i./ha), triadimefon granules (1500 g a.i./ha), flutriafol pellets (1400 g a.i./ha) and etaconazole pellets (2800 g a.i./ha) reduced stripe rust severity 17 weeks after sowing by 90, 89, 88, 86 and 74%, respectively.  相似文献
