Termites are the major decomposers in tropical region but yet their occurrences in oil palm plantation especially in peat soil are generally treated as pest. Study of termite species in peat land was conducted in selected oil palm plantations in North Sarawak with 5-7 years old palms and South Sarawak with 13-15 years old palms with two sites in each area. Results of quadrate (25 x 25 x 30 cm) sampling showed termite was significantly higher in relative density with increasing depth of soil (0-10 = 21.23, 10-20 = 42.52 and 20-30 cm = 81.12%) which could be advantaged from being predated by ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) which were higher in density from soil surface to 10 cm soil depth with relative density of 31.84%. Modified transect sampling (50x6 m) had successfully sampled 18 species of termites from 2 families (Rhinotermitidae and Termitidae), 5 subfamilies (Rhinotermitinae, Coptotermitinae, Termitinae, Macrotermitinae and Nasutitermitinae) and 11 genera (Coptotermes, Schedorhinotermes, Termes, Macrotermes, Nasutitermes, Globitermes, Amitermes, Parrhinotermes, Pericapritermes, Havilanditermes and Prohamitermes). Both plantation sites have termite dominantly feeding on rotten wood as a result of abundant dead woods. However, Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren was identified to feed on the living tissues of oil palm causing damage or death of the tree. Study showed higher encounter of soil-feeding termite in longer established plantation. It indicates the gradually shifting of soil condition towards a stabilized environment which favors the successful settlement of soil feeder termite species. Termite control should be more targets specific to avoid harming beneficial termites.  相似文献

Background  

The investigation was conducted in a savanna area covered by what was considered an undesirably dense stand of Colophospermum mopane trees, mainly because such a dense stand of trees often results in the suppression of herbaceous plants. The objectives of this study were to determine the influence of intensity of tree thinning on the dry matter yield of herbaceous plants (notably grasses) and to investigate differences in herbaceous species composition between defined subhabitats (under tree canopies, between tree canopies and where trees have been removed). Seven plots (65 × 180 m) were subjected to different intensities of tree thinning, ranging from a totally cleared plot (0 %) to plots thinned to the equivalent of 10 %, 20%, 35 %, 50% and 75 % of the leaf biomass of a control plot (100 %) with a tree density of 2711 plants ha-1. The establishment of herbaceous plants (grasses and forbs) in response to reduced competition from the woody plants was measured during three full growing seasons following the thinning treatments.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to estimate the number of blank experiments (BE) (i.e., a uniformity trial) required to estimate the optimum plot size for use in experiments involving potato crops. The study was based on data on the mass of potato tubers (Solanum tuberosum L.) from 3456 hills (i.e., 24 rows of 144 hills each) obtained from a BE. Using these data, BE of different sizes (i.e., 2 rows of 24, 36, 48 and 72 hills) were planned to estimate optimum plot size. For each BE, 11 plot sizes (X) were planned based on the sum of adjacent hills, and the mean, variance and coefficient of variation (CV) between plots of the same size were calculated. Regression models for CV were adjusted in terms of X to estimate the optimum plot size. For each BE size, a bootstrap resampling method was used to estimate the sufficient number of BE to enable precise estimates of optimum plot size, mean and other statistics. It was found that a sampling potato hill yield of 39% of subdivisions within an experimental area where a potato experiment is to be performed is sufficient to estimate optimum plot size for the experiment. Plots composed of one row of six hills are sufficient to estimate potato yield.  相似文献

以郑单958为材料, 采用田间试验方法, 在50 025株/hm2、67 500株/hm2、100 050株/hm2密度下分别设两种株行距配置, 探讨增密条件下调控株行距配置对玉米根系性状及产量影响。结果表明, 3个种植密度下总体表现为小行距种植方式在0~60 cm土层内的根重密度、根长密度及根表面积密度均高于大行距处理。50 025株/hm2下吐丝期时0~60 cm土层内的根重密度和根长密度在两个株行距配置间差异显著(P<0.05), 两个株行距配置的根表面积密度在10叶展、吐丝期和吐丝后25 d差异显著(P<0.05);67 500株/hm2下不同时期两个株行距配置根重密度差异显著(P<0.05), 根长密度和根表面积密度在10叶展和吐丝后25 d差异显著(P<0.05);100 050株/hm2下, 两个株行距配置间根重密度和根长密度在10叶展和吐丝后25 d差异显著(P<0.05), 不同时期根表面积密度差异显著(P< 0.05)。同一密度下缩行增株后单株木质部伤流液体积增大, 根系供应能力增强, 产量增加, 50 025株/hm2、67 500株/hm2下产量分别提高了6.76%和4.89%。不同时期0~60 cm土层内根重密度、根长密度和根表面积密度与产量呈正相关, 其中10叶展时各根系性状均与产量呈显著正相关。  相似文献

根据20余种化学农药在茶树上降解动态的研究结果,提出了茶园用药安全性指标设计的概念。从农药被喷施在茶树上到随茶汤进入人体整个过程,在影响人体安全的因素中,作者选用了农药的5个物理、化学和生物学参数作为选择农药在茶园中适用性的安全性指标,也可供有针对性地合成农药结构设计时参考。上述5项指标中有4项属农药常用参数。这5项指标是:①在茶树鲜叶上的半衰期;③蒸气压;⑧水中溶解度;④允许每日摄入量(ADI);⑤大白鼠口服急性 LD_(50)。每项指标分为4级,其累计值即为该农药的安全性评价值。累计值低于或等于10属  相似文献

Mulching potatoes: Aspects of mulch management systems and soil erosion   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Intensive potato production occupies much of the sloping arable land of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and is at the center of soil erosion concerns in this province. Corrective considerations have turned recent attention to mulching, but there is limited knowledge of its workability or effectiveness in potato systems. This study looks at the effect of mulching on soil loss from potatoes grown on standard erosion plots, and examines a relatively simple approach to assessing soil-surface splash detachment (splash erosion) under mulch-management systems with potatoes. Three sizes of splash cup (25, 50, and 100 mm in diameter) were used under simulated rainfall at 150 mm·h?1 for 10 minutes to measure splash erosion on potato plots under mulch-management systems which, respectively, left surface coverage of ~ 5%, ~ 15%, and ~20%. The lowest straw coverage gave up to 56% more erosion than either of the two higher coverages. The 25-mm splash cup yielded 14% more sediment splash than the 100-mm splash cup on the basis of unit surface area of soil in the splash cup (unit area). Regression modeling of unit-area splash against straw cover showed an exponential decay in splash detachment with increasing straw cover. On the erosion plots, soil loss with mulching was half of what it was without mulching; and soil water retention was 5% greater with mulching.  相似文献

Twelve plots were laid down on an existing perennial ryegrass/white clover sward, one plot in each of six replicated blocks receiving 100 kg  N ha−1 (100N) and one plot receiving no N (0N). Biomass, canopy development (stratified cuts and point quadrat records at 2–4-week intervals) and changes in stolon population density were recorded during one 8-week regrowth period (25 July–23 September) to investigate the likely causes of N effects on white clover in mixed swards.
Over the period, N fertilizer resulted in an increase of 74% in perennial ryegrass biomass and a reduction of 24% in white clover biomass. There was also a reduction of 44% in stolon growing point density, mainly due to lower density of younger stolon branches. White clover's contribution to the upper three leaf area index (LAI) units (taken as an estimate of the proportion of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) intercepted) was, on average, 70% at 0N producing 74% of the sward biomass, compared with 46% contribution to interception and 37% contribution to biomass at 100N.
While there was no evidence of overtopping, it is concluded that N fertilizer application increased the LAI of perennial ryegrass in the upper layers of the canopy thereby reducing the share of available PAR to white clover. This, coupled with a lower radiation use efficiency at high N and lower population density, results in white clover's reduced performance in mixed swards receiving N fertilizer.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtain information about spatial heterogeneity as a basis for site-specific soil and crop management in small fields. The spatial variability patterns of wheat growth parameters and soil properties, e.g. nitrate, available phosphate, pH, and soil surface hardness, were investigated on a 0.25 ha field of Humic Andosol in 1998 - 1999. Two plots in the field had been tilled with different intensities since autumn 1997. A plot was minimum-tilled with a rotary tiller (MT) and the other plot was conventionally tilled with a moldboard plow and disc-harrowed (CT). Raw data, collected from 100 locations with 2.5 m×5 m spacing in each plot, were divided into trends (large-scale deterministic structure) and residuals (small-scale stochastic structure) by median polishing. Trends were more dominant in CT than in MT. The trend of wheat above-ground biomass at harvest was similar to those of soil nitrate and available phosphate. These trends were partly due to high variability across rows, possibly caused by the same traffic direction of farming operations for several years. The residual data, on the other hand, showed no correlation among the parameters. The spatial dependency of the residual data for soil properties, except for pH, was not apparent for distances larger than the minimum sampling distance (2.5 m). It is concluded that modification of fertilizer application based on the trend data may improve the efficiency of fertilizer use while small-scale site-specific management based on the residual data may be practically difficult. Water stress during the vegetative development normally is not detrimental and sometimes actually increases yield of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.). Root growth might play an important role in response to early season drought in peanut and might result in an increase in yield. Information on the response of root characters of diverse peanut genotypes to these conditions will provide useful information for explaining mechanisms and improving peanut genotypes for exploiting positive interaction for pod yield under pre-flowering drought. The aim of this study, therefore, was to investigate the root dry weight and root length density of peanut genotypes with different yield responses to pre-flowering drought stress and their relationships with pod yield. Field experiments were conducted at the Field Crop Research Station of Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen, Thailand during February to July 2007 and during February to July 2009. A split-plot experiment in a randomized complete block design was used. Two water management treatments were assigned as the main plots, i.e. field capacity and pre-flowering stress, and six peanut genotypes as the sub-plots. Total crop dry matter, root dry weight and root length density were recorded at 25 DAE, R5 and R7. Top dry weight and pod yield were measured at harvest and pod harvest index (PHI) was computed using the data on pod yield and biomass. Peanut genotypes were categorized into three groups based on their responses to drought for pod yield, e.g. increasing, decreasing and non-responsive groups. The genotypes of each group showed a differential response for root quantity and distribution. The increasing pod yield group had more root dry weight and root length density in the deeper soil layers during pre-flowering stress compared to the non-stress treatment. The non-responsive group showed no root response under pre-flowering drought conditions compared to the non-stress treatment. A larger root system alone without considering distribution may not contribute much to pod yield but a higher RLD at deeper layers may allow plants to mine more available water in the sub-soil. However, as yield is a complex trait, several mechanisms may be involved. The increasing pod yield group also had the ability to maintain a high PHI.  相似文献

An action threshold of 3-10 green peach aphid,Myzus persicae (Sulzer), apterae per 100 lower leaves is recommended for use in Minnesota to prevent further spread of potato leafroll virus (PLRV) in potato,Solarium tuberosum L. This threshold was first developed and validated using the PLRV susceptible cultivar Russet Burbank. Here we report experiments to determine if higher aphid densities could be tolerated in PLRV resistant cultivars,i.e., Kennebec (moderately resistant) or Cascade (highly resistant), without an increase in PLRV infection. Insecticidal sprays were applied to plots when predetermined target aphid densities, based on number of apterae per 100 leaves, were reached: 3, 10, 30, and 100 (Russet Burbank); 10, 30, 100, and 300 (Kennebec); and 30, 100, 300, and 1000 (Cascade). The response variable was the average percentage of PLRV infected plants. Overall mean cumulative aphid-days and percent PLRV infection were 617 and 23.5% for Russet Burbank, 1,296 and 10.2% for Kennebec, and 4,816 and 9.5% for Cascade. For each cultivar, the highest target aphid density tolerated without an increase in PLRV spread was determined by comparing PLRV infection in plots sprayed on predetermined thresholds to PLRV infection in plots where aphids were rigorously controlled. This maximum density was 10 apterae per 100 leaves for Russet Burbank and 300 apterae per 100 leaves for Cascade. Results using Kennebec were ambiguous, but Kennebec was always more resistant to PLRV than Russet Burbank. Excised leaflet tests showed that the cultivars did not differ in resistance to green peach aphid. It appears that action thresholds based on green peach aphid apterae can be different depending upon the inherent PLRV-resistance of the cultivar.  相似文献

Twenty potato breeding selections and five potato cultivars (25 clones) were evaluated in replicated field plots for their resistance to common scab caused byStreptomyces scabies, at Presque Isle, ME and Cranesville, WV in 1993. At harvest, all tubers in each plot were individually scored for the surface area covered (0=0% to 5>75%) and for lesion type (0=no lesions to 5=pitted lesions). The individual tuber scores for either surface area covered or lesion type for each plot were totaled and divided by five times the number of tubers to create an index of surface area covered (SAI) or lesion type (LI), respectively. Clonal mean SAI ranged from 0.05 to 0.96 in Maine and 0.21 to 0.89 in West Virginia. Clonal mean LI ranged from 0.06 to 1.0 in Maine and 0.48 to 1.0 in West Virginia. There were significant differences among clones for SAI and LI. Clones were clustered on mean SAI and LI in ME and WV. The clones clustered into four groups. The resistance of Krantz and two breeding selections, B0348-2 and B0339-1, was similar to Ontario.  相似文献

Data on the yield of lucerne for individual cuts and the total for three cuts from a uniformity trial were analysed. It was observed that CV% values decreased with the increase in plot size, both for each cut and for total yield. The decrease was considerable up to a plot size of 8 to 16 m2. The plot shape did not show any consistent effect. Increasing the size of block resulted in increased CV values, but block shape had no consistent effect. The CV values were highest for the first cut and lowest for the second cut. A relationship between the average CV% and plot size was found. However, this relationship, or its modified form Y= a.X1−b1. X2−b2 taking into account the plot shape and considering the individual CV values, provide a good fit to the data for the cases where blocking was adopted. The coefficient of heterogeneity was less than 0·29, being lowest for first-cut yields, followed by the total, the third cut and the second cut yields. This showed a high degree of positive correlation between yields of neighbouring plots. Blocking proved useful in increasing the efficiency of the experiment and it is suggested that block size may be kept at 8 or less plots per block. The relationship between average CV% and block size was of the from Y = a Xb. The present study suggests that, for field experiments with luceme, the plot size may be kept to a minimum that does not exceed 8 to 12 m2, in blocks of eight to nine plots with the shapes of plots and blocks being nearly square. Calculating the efficiencies of confounded factorial design and incomplete block design revealed that block size may be kept to a minimum. The recovery of interblock information was found useful and balancing may be attempted, but only, if necessary.  相似文献

The focus of this study was to evaluate two mineral oils (Superior 70 and Vazyl-Y) in reducing the seasonal spread of Potato Virus Y (PVY). Three concentrations of oil (0, 5, and 10 L ha?1 of Superior 70; 0, 7.5, and 15 L ha?1 of Vazyl-Y) and three spray regimes for both oils (every 3–4, 7, and 10–11 days) were tested. Two weeks after top-kill, two tubers from each of 49 plants free of virus at emergence were harvested from treatment plots, sprouted, and tested for PVY with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results revealed that in the case of Superior 70, PVY spread in mineral oil treated plots ranged from 2.1 to 12.2 %, while in the control plots it ranged from 20.4 to 37.7 % across three cultivars. In the case of Vazyl-Y, PVY spread in mineral oil treated plots ranged from 2.1 to 26.5 %, while in the control plots it ranged from 49.9 to 85.7 % across three cultivars. These data show that there was a significant reduction in PVY due to spray of mineral oils. In addition, mineral oil was quantified in plants from the Superior 70 treated and the control plots to understand the dynamics of mineral oil during the season. While there was little to no oil measured in the leaves at the early stages of plant growth, a considerable amount of mineral oil was detected close to plant maturity. A basic model of the concentration of oil in the treated foliage was formulated to confirm our understanding of the factors at play. The model could explain from 50 to 90 % of the variation in oil content observed in the field. Plant growth and size are important factors affecting oil content in mineral oil treated foliage.  相似文献

Various potato cultivars were grown in field plots from seed pieces inoculated withCoryneacterium sepedanicum by vacuum infiltration. Foliage symptoms were recorded during the growing season and tuber symptoms at harvest. Cultivars were ranked according to the frequency with which the progeny tubers expressed external bacterial ring rot symptoms. Those that yielded 50–100% symptomatic tubers were placed in symptom expression class (SEC) 1; those that produced 25–49%, 10–24%, and ≤9% symptomatic tubers were placed, respectively, in SEC 2,3, and 4. The incidence of latent ring rot infections in stems and tubers were similar among cultivars in the different SEC classes. Bacterial population densities, quantified by immunofluorescence, were as high as 1010 cells/g in stems from cultivars of all SEC classes. Mean populations in tubers ranged from 106 – 107 cells/g and did not differ significantly among cultivars.  相似文献

硫酸盐肥料以S10或40kg/hm2分别在油菜的出苗期、莲座期、现蕾期、抽薹期及初花期施入缺硫土壤,并在出苗期结合施用氮肥N80或160kg/hm2。结果表明,对照区植株在抽薹期表现出严重的缺硫症状,特别是单施N160kg/hm2的小区。追施S10kg/hm2可显著提高油菜产量及含油量,但追施时期间差异未达到显著性水准,这一施用量明显不足,油菜籽产量远低于施S40kg/hm2处理。迟于花期追施S40kg/hm2,籽粒产量较前期减少约20%。此外,施S40kg/hm2还可明显提高籽粒的蛋白质含量。对缺硫植株,籽粒N:S比大于10,而供硫适宜植株为7.5。总硫代葡萄糖甙含量随施硫量的增加而提高,且后期追施明显高于前期。  相似文献

以黑龙江大豆产区主栽品种合丰25、合丰30等为寄主。将从本地区不同品种采集的根瘤中分离的十多株快慢生大豆根瘤菌及引入的其它菌株接种上述栽培大豆。从中筛选出2178、2187等优良菌株.接种后大豆植株干重、全氮、全磷量分别较61A76(美国引进菌株)提高10~17%、56.7~78.3和14.6~19.6%。采用丸衣化的2178菌剂接种效果更佳。较61A76接种的植株干重、全氮、全磷分别提高27%、83.2%和39.2%。田间小区试验初步证明2178、2187接种后,增加了大豆植株的鲜重、干重、增加结荚数和百粒重;从而提高产量10%以上。  相似文献

Weed management in Romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. longifolia) is an economic challenge for organic farmers. This study evaluated the effect of weed-free durations on crop yield and quality, weed densities and biomass, and weeding time in two growing seasons. Treatments included weedy entire-season; weed-free for 7 days after transplanting (DAT), 14 DAT, 21 DAT, 28 DAT, 35 DAT, 42 DAT; and weed-free entire season (49 DAT). Weeds were removed by hand-hoes and the time taken to weed each plot was recorded. Weed densities were recorded prior to each weeding and weed biomass was recorded at crop harvest. Total and marketable lettuce heads were recorded and crop quality was estimated. Weed interference up to 21 DAT resulted in approximately 45% total and 58% marketable yield loss. Weed control beyond this period did not result in significant (p < 0.05) increases in crop yield and quality. However, weed densities at the end of the season were 4- to 15-fold and weed biomass approximately 18-fold greater in plots kept weed-free only for 21 DAT compared with plots kept weed-free season-long. This suggested that weed seed-return may be a concern if late-season weeding is not conducted. To minimize weed seed-return, the plots would have to be kept weed-free for about 35 DAT. However, labor costs must be taken into consideration because the time required to hand-hoe was approximately 87 hr ha?1 person?1 greater in plots kept weed-free for 35 DAT compared with plots kept weed-free for 21 DAT.  相似文献

Pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) treatment (20 lb/A – 22.4 kg/ha) showed significant reduction ofRhizoctonia (Rhizoctonia solani Kühn) symptoms on potato. The PCNB treatment increased the number of non-girdled stolons as compared to untreated plots by 50, 34, and 30% at respective seedpiece spacings of 6, 9, and 12 in (15, 23, and 30 cm). Numbers of non-girdled stolons in PCNB-treated plots at 9- and 12-in spacing did not differ significantly from those in untreated plots at 6-in spacing. Yield differences (either total or U.S. #1) among treatments were not observed, but size differences were evident. Closer spacing or PCNB treatment or both increased the number of small U.S. #1 potatoes and decreased the number of large U.S. #1 potatoes (over 7 oz. - 199 g). Although the number of smaller potatoes was increased by 27% with PCNB treatment, the percentage of malformed tubers was reduced by 50%. Tuber size was reduced as the number of non-girdled stolons was increased (P =.001). Results suggestthat Rhizoctonia control may benefit the fresh potato packer and seedgrower by potentially reducing seed requirement/acre, by increasing capacity for single-drop seed production, and by greater control over U.S. #1 size.  相似文献
