Antimicrobial activity of Trichilia heudelotti leaves

Diterpenes and phenolic acids, including the new compounds 12 beta-hydroxysandaracopimar-15-ene (4) and 2-propionoxy-beta-resorcylic acid (8) have been isolated from Trichilia heudelotti leaves. The methanol extract showed antimicrobial activity concentrated in the ethyl acetate fraction and some of its constituents.     

Antimicrobial activity of Vernonia amygdalina leaves

Vernonia amygdalina leaf 60% methanol extract was found to be active at 25 mg/ml against six out of eight bacterial isolates.     

Antimicrobial activity of Rubus chamaemorus leaves

The antibacterial activity of Rubus chamaemorus leaf butanolic fraction of the methanol extract and ellagic acid was evaluated against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Antimicrobial activity of the Maniltoa schefferi extracts

All fractions of Maniltoa schefferi exhibited a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Good activity was demonstrated by the petrol and dichloromethane fractions of seed pods, seeds with coat and by methanol fractions of stem heartwood, root bark, root heartwood and stem bark whose butanol fraction was equally good. None of the fractions showed any antifungal activity.

Antimicrobial activity of Micrechites novoguineensis

The methanol extracts of Micrechites novoguineensis, leaves and stem bark were partitioned (petrol, ethyl acetate, methanol). All obtained fractions showed a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, while only the leaf ethyl acetate fraction showed activity against moulds.

Methanol extract of the stem bark of Hymenodictyon parvifolium was tested for its antifungal and antibacterial activity. The extract was found to have inhibitory effect against all the pathogens tested.

The antimicrobial activity of aqueous extract, andrographolides and arabinogalactan proteins from Andrographis paniculata were evaluated. The aqueous extract showed significant antimicrobial activity, which may be due to the combined effect of the isolated arabinogalactan proteins and andrographolides.

The methanol extracts of leaves, root and stem barks of Calophyllum soulattri were partitioned with petrol, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate. The extracts demonstrated a range of antibacterial activity, improved on fractionation. None were found to be active against the moulds.
