Weed management involving the time of hilling and various herbicide applications was compared. The best weed management program consisted of EPTC (S-ethyl dipropylcarbamothioate) at 3.3 kg ai ha-1 preplant incorporated, followed by metribuzin [4-amino-6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one] at 0.6 kg ai ha-1 applied delayed pree-mergence, or delayed preemergence applications of metolachlor [2-chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)-N-(2-methoxy-1-methylethyl) acetamide] plus linuron [N’-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-methylurea] (2.2 + 1.1 kg ai ha-1) or metolachlor plus metribuzin (2.2 + 0.6 kg ai ha-1) regardless of the time of hilling. Alternatively, postemergence applications of sethoxydim [2-[1-(ethoxyimino) butyl]-5-[2-(ethylthio)propyl]-3-hydroxy-2-cyclohexen-1-one] plus metribuzin plus crop oil concentrate at 0.2 plus 0.6 kg ai ha-1 plus 1.2 L ha-1 provided excellent season-long weed control regardless of the time of hilling. However, potato yield was reduced in 1 of 2 years by this treatment. Preemergence herbicides applied immediately after planting followed by an early hilling at ground cracking did not provide season-long weed control. The cultivar Atlantic was a better competitor with weeds than Russet Burbank in 1 of 2 years.  相似文献

Russet Burbank and Shepody potatoes were grown with at-planting N fertilizer rates ranging from 0 to 270 kg ha?1 during 1986 through 1989. Experiments were conducted each year following small grains and red clover. Total yields and tuber size were strongly increased by N on most sites where potatoes followed small grains. Specific gravities declined with increasing N rate. Total yields of Russet Burbank and Shepody were optimized at an average of 196 and 211 kg ha?1 of N, respectively, following small grains. The effect of N fertilizer on yields was much less dramatic following red clover. Total yields averaged 88% of maximum with only 45 kg ha?1 of N applied, compared to 77% of maximum for this N rate following small grains. Total yields for the two varieties were optimized at 126 and 136 kg ha?1, respectively. U.S. #1 yields were generally not increased at N rates above 45 to 90 kg ha?1 following red clover and tuber size was not increased at rates above 90 to 135 kg ha?1. Based on these studies, the N fertilizer credit for red clover grown prior to potatoes can be up to 75 kg ha?1. Maintenance of tuber quality necessitates conservative use of N fertilizer when potatoes are grown following legumes. The highest N rates tested suppressed total yields of Russet Burbank, a late-season, indeterminate variety, by approximately 9% averaged over cropping systems.  相似文献

Russet Burbank and Onaway potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) vines were desiccated with diquat (6,7-dihydrodipyrido (1,2-a:2′1′-c) pyrazinediium ion), ametryn (N-ethyl-N-methylethyl)-6-(methylthio)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine), paraquat (1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium ion), and endothall (7-oxabicyclo (2.2.1) heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid) applied at various rates alone or combined with surfactants, drift retardant, copper, or ammonium sulfate. Diquat and paraquat at 0.28 and 0.56 kg ha?1 plus nonionic surfactant thoroughly desiccated Onaway and Russet Burbank potato vines. Only Onaway vines were thoroughly desiccated by ametryn at 1.3 and 2.3 kg ha?1. Endothall at 0.87 kg ha?1 provided thorough desiccation of Russet Burbank vines. The addition of a drift retardant did not reduce the effectiveness of diquat, while combining either ammonium or copper sulfate with diquat slowed the dieback of potato vines in 1987. Combining copper sulfate with diquat also slowed the dieback of Onaway vines in 1988. Both copper and ammonium sulfate, combined with diquat and nonionic surfactant, slowed the dieback of Russet Burbank vines when evaluated two days after application, but seven days later, no difference in vine dieback was evident. Crushing plants by rolling the field prior to desiccant application quickened vinekill by 18%. Applications of diquat using flat fan nozzles at 333 kPa provided vinekill equivalent to applications using hollow cone nozzles on a 25 cm spacing at 833 kPa, when spray volume for both applications was 467 L ha?1. Potato yield, percentage of U.S. No. 1 potatoes, and stemend discoloration were unaffected by chemical desiccation.  相似文献

Impact of adjuvants on bentazon efficacy on selected broadleaf weeds   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Tank-mix adjuvants can increase the efficacy of herbicides. Therefore, the effects of different rates of bentazon alone or tank-mixed with ammonium sulfate, non-ionic (0.25% Induce) or organosilicone (0.1% Kinetic) adjuvants were investigated on cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium), black nightshade (Solanium nigrum), velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti), and stranglervine (Morrenia odorata) under greenhouse condition. There were variations in susceptibility of the four weed species to bentazon-adjuvants tank-mixture treatments. Black nightshade control never exceeded 55% with all bentazan treatments rates from 0.84 to 2.24 kg ha−1 with or without the adjuvants. While cocklebur was completely controlled with the application of bentazon at 1.12 kg ha−1, or with bentazon at 0.84 kg ha−1 plus one of the three adjuvants, with insignificant differences between adjuvants. The limited factor of controlling velvetleaf and stranglervine is the bentazon rate. Complete foliar death (98–100%) of velvetleaf and stranglervine was with bentazon at 1.68 kg ha−1 alone or with Induce or Kinetic adjuvant. The results suggested that black nightshade was difficult-to-control weed, while cocklebur was susceptibility to bentazon at lowest rate (0.84 kg ha−1) plus adjuvant. Mixing adjuvant with bentazon generally enhanced common cocklebur and black nightshade control, while addition of adjuvant to bentazon at all rates for controlling stranglervine did not cause any significant difference.  相似文献

Russet Burbank and Shepody potatoes were grown with the following four nitrogen treatments: 1) 90 kg ha?1 at planting; 2) 180 kg ha?1 at planting; 3) 90 kg ha?1 at planting followed by an additional 90 kg ha?1 side-dressed after tuber initiation; or 4) 90 kg ha?1 at planting followed by an additional 45 kg ha?1 sidedressing. When compared to the 90 kg ha?1 at-planting treatment, petiole NO3-N concentrations increased rapidly after sidedressing and were relatively constant through mid-season. Sidedressed N significantly increased total yields relative to the 90 kg N ha?1 at-planting treatment by an average of 5.0 t ha?1 in three of nine experiments. Three of the experiments, where yields did not significantly increase, were on sites which were not expected to respond to supplemental N based on petiole NO3-N testing. A red clover green manure crop was the previous crop for two of these experimental sites. Petiole NO3-N testing criteria were only partially effective in detecting sites where response to sidedressed N occurred. When compared to a single application of 180 kg N ha?1 at planting, split application of 90 kg N ha?1 at planting followed by a 90 kg N ha?1 sidedressing significantly reduced total yields in one of nine experiments and did not affect yields in the remaining eight experiments. Tuber uniformity was improved in three of nine experiments by the split-N treatment. Specific gravity was not significantly affected. Use of 45 kg N ha?1 at side-dressing resulted in similar yield as the 90 kg N ha?1 sidedressing, although yield of large-sized tubers was often decreased with the lower N rate. Use of reduced at-planting N rates followed by sidedressed N does not appear to increase yields of non-irrigated Russet Burbank and Shepody potatoes when compared to the at-planting N rates that are currently recommended. This management approach can maintain yields at levels comparable to at-planting N programs and does provide an opportunity to reduce N application rates on sites where soil N reserves and soil amendments may make a substantial N contribution to the potato crop. Side-dressed N application can frequently improve yields and tuber size when potatoes have been underfertilized at planting; however, some inconsistency in response can be expected in regions that rely on unpredictable natural rainfall.  相似文献

Bentazon [3-(l-methylethyl)-(1H)-2,l,3-benzothiadiazin-4(3H)-one 2,2-dioxide] was applied at two rates to nine potato cultivars in the field, with or without a crop oil, to plant foliage at two different heights. Seven days after application of bentazon, foliar injury ranged from 0 to 36 percent depending on rate, cultivar, and plant height at the time of application. Of nine cultivars tested, Russet Burbank was the most susceptible to injury and Red LaSoda the least susceptible. A bentazon application rate of 1.12 kg a.i./ha, compared to a rate of 0.84 Kg a.i./ha, resulted in a biologically insignificant increase in foliar injury of two to four percent and a significant increase in weed control. The addition of crop oil to bentazon did not result in an increase of foliar injury, but increased the percentage of weeds controlled approximately two-fold. With one exception, application of bentazon to plants 8–15 cm in height resulted in less foliar injury than application to plants 20–30 cm in height. Application of bentazon to larger plants resulted in lower yield and quality. For most cultivars, the application of bentazon (1.12 kg/ha a.i.) and crop oil (2.3 L/ha) to 8 to 15 cm-tall potato plants resulted in no appreciable loss in potato tuber yield, while controlling 74–85 percent of broadleaf weeds.  相似文献

Missing and irregularly spaced potato plants compromise grower revenue. A recent survey of 70 commercial fields in Washington State, USA, indicated that in-row seedpiece and plant spacing was irregular due to multiple planter skips and clumped seedpieces. Seven percent (2950 missing plants ha?1) of the intended stand was missing: 6% from planter skips and 1% from nonviable seedpieces. To estimate economic loss to Washington potato growers, two potato (Solanum tuberosum) cultivars, Russet Burbank and Russet Norkotah, were grown in small-plot experiments designed to mimic spacing errors commonly found in Washington fields. Yield and economic values of uniform (optimum) spacing were compared to values coming from treatments that simulated planter skips/missing plants and seed clumps (doubles) in 2001 and 2002. The planter-skip treatments produced the lowest total, market, and U.S. No. 1 yields for both cultivars. In-row plants on both sides of a skip collectively compensated for 56% to 67% of the missing plant’s economic value. Plants in adjacent rows failed to compensate for their missing neighbor. Doubles reduced average tuber size for both cultivars compared with optimum spacing. Using processing market values, 2950 missing Russet Burbank plants ha?1 reduced seed-cost-adjusted gross income 2.9% or $205 ha?1. Doubles did not affect Russet Burbank processing value. Using fresh market values, 2950 missing and 1980 doubles ha?1 reduced Russet Norkotah adjusted gross income 4.4% or $250 ha?1. Improved planter technology and management efforts would likely improve plant spacing in commercial fields and in turn, grower revenue. Planter manufacturers and growers should consider this information when making management decisions.  相似文献

Nitrogen and water deficiencies are known to affect potato yield, but much less is known of their effect on tuber growth and biomass partitioning. The objective of this on-farm study conducted at two sites in each of three years, 1995 to 1997, was to determine the effects of supplemental irrigation and N fertilization rates on tuber growth and biomass partitioning of the cultivars Shepody and Russet Burbank. The N fertilization rates were 0,100, and 250 kg N ha-1in 1995, and 0, 50,100, and 250 kg N ha?1 in 1996 and 1997. The highest bulking rate observed in our study (7.3 g fresh tubers m-2 °C-1) can be considered near the potential bulking rate in New Brunswick. The water deficit in the absence of supplemental irrigation reduced this potential bulking rate by as much as 40%, but this reduction was much less at five of six sites and negligible at two of six sites. Nitrogen deficiency reduced the bulking rate at two of six sites. This negative effect of N deficiency on bulking rate was greater with irrigation than without irrigation at two of six sites; the tuber bulking rate with irrigation was reduced by as much as 50% with no N applied at one site. Shepody had a greater bulking rate than Russet Burbank. The tuber bulking of Russet Burbank, however, started earlier and lasted longer than that of Shepody. Water and N deficiencies increased biomass partitioning to tubers and large roots. Shepody partitioned a greater proportion of its biomass to large roots and had a greater root biomass than Russet Burbank. Our results demonstrate the ability of potatoes to modify biomass partitioning when grown under water and/or N stresses. As a result of this compensation, the reduction in tuber yield due to limited N and water stresses is minimized.  相似文献

New cultivars ‘Alpine Russet’, ‘Dakota Trailblazer’ and ‘Ivory Crisp’ have lower tuber reducing sugars and acrylamide-forming potential. Adoption of new cultivars by growers requires information about their responses to agronomic factors such as nitrogen (N) fertilizer. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of N rate on yield and quality of new cultivars relative to conventional cultivars ‘Russet Burbank’ and ‘Snowden’. The experiment was conducted over two years as a randomized complete block design replicated four times with five N rates and five cultivars. The new cultivars had comparable or higher marketable yields, and a higher percentage of large tubers (greater than170 g) than the standard cultivars. Total and marketable yields responded quadratically to N and optimized at 231 kg ha?1 in 2011 and 319 kg ha?1 in 2012 for all cultivars. ‘Dakota Trailblazer’ had high hollow heart incidence (greater than 10% at N rates above 125 kg ha?1), and excessively high specific gravity, making it undesirable for processing but with potential to be a parent in a breeding program. ‘Alpine Russet’ and ‘Ivory Crisp’ had specific gravity suitable for commercial processing, and low hollow heart incidence at all N rates. Critical petiole nitrate-N concentrations 50 and 70 days after planting for all cultivars were greater in 2012 than in 2011, suggesting that interpretation of critical values can be affected by growing conditions.  相似文献

Fertilizer nitrogen (N) may be managed to increase crop production and profitability while reducing nitrate contamination of groundwater. A two-year field investigation was conducted to evaluate the effects of applied N on tuber yield and quality, dry matter production and N uptake of potato (Solanum tuberosum L. var. Russet Burbank) grown on irrigated sandy soils in Michigan. Nitrogen was applied as ammonium sulfate [(NH4)2SO4] at rates of 0, 56 and 112, kg N ha?1 in a single application at planting or 112 and 168 kg N ha?1 in split applications during the growing season. Total tuber yield generally increased with N applications up to 112 kg N ha?1. Only one of the three experimental sites showed an increase in marketable tuber yield when 112 kg N ha?1 was split evenly between planting and tuber initiation. Tuber specific gravity was not affected by N rate. Nitrogen rates of 112–168 kg N ha?1 maximized dry matter production and plant tissue N concentration at onset of maturity and harvest. Tuber N concentration at harvest ranged from 13–17 g kg?1 at two of the three locations. Values for the third experiment were 10–13 g N kg?1. Whole crop N uptake at onset of senescence ranged from 45 to 225 kg N ha?1 across all locations and treatments. An average of 67 percent of this N was found in tubers at harvest. Nitrogen fertilization exceeded N removal in harvested tubers by more than 50 kg N ha?1 only for the 168 kg N ha?1 treatment. These results indicate that acceptable tuber yield can be obtained with lower N rates than those currently used by most producers, with the potential for reducing net loss of N from the soil.  相似文献

Relationships between french fry color and sugar composition of Russet Burbank and Shepody potatoes harvested at various chemical maturities (i.e., sucrose concentrations) and exposed to various temperature regimes during 8 to 9 months storage were examined. Combined data from 3 years of study showed fry color to be more closely associated with glucose during 8 C storage for Russet Burbank (r2=0.65) and Shepody (r2=0.62) than with fructose, total reducing sugars, sucrose, or total sugars. Glucose > 1.6 mg g?1 in Russet Burbank and > 1.2 mg g?1 in Shepody resulted in fries which were too dark to be eligible for maximum bonus paid by processors for good color. Russet Burbank harvested with sucrose > 3.1 mg g?1 and Shepody harvested with sucrose > 1.6 mg g?1 and preconditioned for 14 d at 15 C before storage at 8 C accumulated enough glucose in storage to result in fries which were darker than was acceptable for maximum bonus payment. Preconditioning at 15 C for 70 d was necessary to prevent Russet Burbank with sucrose of 3.9 mg g?1 at harvest from accumulating unacceptably high glucose during storage. Glucose determined with enzymatic test strips was in close agreement with that by HPLC for both cultivars. The test strips could be used to estimate fry color of Russet Burbank.  相似文献

The response of Russet Burbank grown at five plant densities (4.0 to 11.1 × 104 plants ha?1), to level of fertilization was studied in field experiments at Guelph, Canada in the 1972 and 1973 growing seasons. Growth analysis techniques were used to establish growth patterns of Russet Burbank at three of the above plant densities (4.0,6.3 and 11.1 × 104plants ha?1), while the effect on root development of rate of fertilization was observed in controlled environments. In both seasons total tuber yield was not influenced by plant density, while marketable yield showed a negative response to increased density. The interaction between plant density and level of fertilization did not approach significance in either season. Due to greater axillary branching at the lower plant densities, leaf area index and photosynthetically active radiation measured at two levels in the canopy, were similar at all densities. Fertilizer levels used in the field showed no negative effect on root growth in experiments conducted in controlled environments. Marked variation in the number of mainstems and thus the number of tubers produced per plant between seasons indicated the importance of using the mainstem as the basic population unit.  相似文献

Weed management is among the main factors limiting cultivation of castor (Ricinus communis) in extensive fields, particularly when labor is scarce or expensive. This experiment evaluated the efficiency of weed management programs using preemergence (clomazone, pendimethalin, and trifluralin) and a postemergence herbicide (chlorimuron-ethyl) applied at 20 days after emergence in castor plants cv. BRS Energia under rainfed conditions in Apodi, Brazil. No phytotoxicity was observed on the castor plants, and the postemergence herbicide significantly increased castor seed yield to 1466 kg ha−1 complementing the weed control of preemergence herbicides treatments in which seed yield was 1207 kg ha−1. Seed yield on weedy and weed-free treatments was 760 and 1971 kg ha−1, respectively. Weeds were kept under a satisfactory control up to 40 days after emergence. This program resulted in reasonable weed control because the preemergence herbicides controled monocotyledon weeds, while the postemergence herbicide controlled broad leafed species being selective to castor plants.  相似文献

The joint action of nitrogen fertilizer and nematicides onPratylenchus penetrons and yield was investigated using three potato varieties (Superior, Onaway and Russet Burbank), three rates of nitrogen (84, 168 and 336 kg/ha), five edaphic pesticides (disulfoton, aldicarb, 1,3-D + MIC, carbofuran and thiofanox), and an insecticide spray to minimize the role of foliar feeding insects In 1977, disulfoton, aldicarb, and disulfoton plus 1,3-D + MIC significantly increased the yield of Superior at all nitrogen rates. The yield increases ranged from 37–56% for Superior, 15–35% for Onaway and 13–27% for Russet Burbank. Nitrogen had no detectable influence on yield. Population densities ofP. penetrans were significantly reduced by disulfoton plus 1,3-D + MIC and by aldicarb. Superior was most susceptible toP. penetrans, Onaway intermediate, and Russet Burbank moderately tolerant. Neither the potato variety or nitrogen significantly influenced the population densities ofP. penetrans In 1978 aldicarb, 1,3-D + MIC and thiofanox significantly increased yields of Superior at all nitrogen rates. Nitrogen also significantly increased yields, but only where aldicarb and 1,3-D + MIC were applied. Total yield was increased 12–14% and 17–23% by 1,3-D + MIC and aldicarb at 168 and 336 kg N/ha, respectively. Aldicarb, 1,3-D + MIC, and thiofanox appeared to increase tuber set, while nitrogen increased tuber size. Although all of the nematicides provided some control ofP. penetrans, aldicarb had the highest degree of efficacy and gave excellent season-long control  相似文献

Imazamox plus bentazon has the potential to provide broad spectrum weed control in dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Field trials were conducted in Ontario over a two year period (2003 and 2006) to evaluate the effect of imazamox plus bentazon applied post-emergence at 25 + 600 and 50 + 1200 g ai ha−1 on black, brown, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pinto, white and yellow eye beans. Treatments included a non-treated check. All treatments were maintained weed free during the growing season. The eight market classes responded similarly to imazamox plus bentazon. Imazamox plus bentazon applied post-emergence caused less than 4% visible injury at 7, 14 and 28 days after treatment. Imazamox plus bentazon applied post-emergence did not have any effect on plant height, shoot dry weight, seed moisture content and yield of dry bean. Based on these results, imazamox plus bentazon at the proposed maximum use dose can be safely used for weed management in black, brown, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pinto, white and yellow eye bean production in Ontario. Additional research is needed to determine if cultivars within a market class of dry bean differ in their response to imazamox plus bentazon.  相似文献

Foliar treatment of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) with metribuzin at 0.57–1.0 lb/A caused a necrotic reaction in leaflets of plants infected with potato virus Y (PVY), but not in plants infected with potato virus X (PVX) or potato leafroll virus. Necrosis symptoms resulting from metribuzin-PVY interaction were distinct from symptoms of either PVY infection or of metribuzin injury. This reaction was similar in the Russet Burbank, Lemhi Russet, and Pioneer cultivars. Russet Burbank infected with PVY and PVX, alone or in combination, was treated with metribuzin to study herbicidevirus interaction effects on yield. Secondary PVY infection alone caused a 57% yield reduction, and when combined with PVX caused a 71% yield reduction. Although leaflet necrosis was induced by the metribuzin-PVY combination, there was no significant yield interaction. Results suggest that post-emergence application of metribuzin can be used as an aid for detecting and removing potato virus Y infected plants from potato seed fields  相似文献

The release of three new potato (Solarium tuberosum L.) cultivars, Bannock Russet, Gem Russet, and Summit Russet, with unique plant growth characteristics, necessitates the development of appropriate N fertilizer recommendations. These three new cultivars, along with the standard cultivar, Russet Burbank, were treated with four N rates (0, 100, 200, and 300 kg N ha?1) using two different application timing procedures (“early,” with two-thirds N applied preplant, and “late,” with one-third applied preplant). Measurements included total and U.S. No. 1 yields, petiole NO3-N concentrations, and net returns derived from economic analysis using a processing-based contract. Each of the four cultivars showed a unique response to N application treatments. Bannock Russet achieved maximum yield and net returns with relatively small amounts of N fertilizer. It also showed no response to N application timing and had moderate NO3-N sufficiency concentrations early in the season, that decreased markedly late in the season. Gem Russet N requirement for maximum yield was similar to that of Russet Burbank, but required a higher amount of N for maximum net returns. Gem Russet also showed no response to application timing and had NO3-N sufficiency concentrations similar to or slightly higher than those of Russet Burbank. Summit Russet showed a strong trend for improved N use-efficiency when most of the N was applied early. On the other hand, analysis of net returns revealed a trend for greater profitability for Summit Russet when the majority of N was applied during tuber bulking. Petiole NO3-N sufficiency concentrations for Summit Russet were generally higher than those for the other three cultivars. In comparison with some earlier studies with Russet Burbank, this research suggested lower optimal N rates and petiole NO3-N sufficiency concentrations.  相似文献

Nitrogen and water are important factors influencing potato production, and crop response to these two factors may vary with cultivars. The yield response of two potato cultivars (Russet Burbank and Shepody) to six rates of N fertilization (0-250 kg N ha-1) with and without supplemental irrigation was studied at four onfarm sites in each of three years, 1995 to 1997, in the upper St-John River Valley of New Brunswick, Canada. On average, irrigation increased total yield from 31.9t ha-1 without irrigation to 38.41 ha-1 with irrigation and marketable yield from 25.61 ha-1 without irrigation to 30.71 ha-1 with irrigation. Potato yields were increased by irrigation at nine out of the 12 sites, and the irrigation response was similar for both cultivars. Nitrogen fertilization significantly increased both total and marketable yields at all sites except one. The yield response to N fertilization was greater with irrigation. The N fertilization rate (Nmax) required to reach maximum total and marketable yield, however, was similar with and without irrigation. A large variation in Nmax was observed among sites. With irrigation Nmax varied between 158 and 233 kgN ha-1 for total yield, and between 151 and 250 kg N ha-1 for marketable yield. There was no interaction between N fertilization and potato cultivar for both total and marketable yields. The two cultivars had similar total yields (35 t ha-1). Shepody, however, had a greater marketable yield (28.9 t ha-1) than Russet Burbank (27.4 t ha-1). Our results indicate that the response to two of the most significant factors of potato production, irrigation and N fertilization, varies greatly with sites and climatic conditions, and that field specific recommendations are required for the optimum management of N and irrigation.  相似文献

Research was conducted to quantify the effects of potato cultivar, row spacing, and weed control treatments on weed biomass, crop yield, and net crop value. Cultivars evaluated included Russet Burbank, Russet Norkotah, Goldrush, Dark Red Norland, Snowden, and Atlantic. Inter-row spacings of 76 and 91 cm with an intra-row spacing of 30 cm were evaluated in 1996 and 1997. Weed control treatments included a herbicide tank-mix of metribuzin and metolachlor, cultivation, and a hilling-only control. Common lambsquarters and total weed biomass were greater in the 76-cm row spacing than in the 91-cm row spacing across all cultivars in 1996 and 1997. In 1997, chemical control resulted in less weed biomass than both the hilling-only and cultivation treatments. Total marketable yield was greater in the 91-cm row spacing than in the 76-cm row spacing across cultivars in 1996, but was similar across row spacings in 1997. Net crop value was greater across cultivars in the 91-cm row spacing than in the 76-cm row spacing in 1996. Reduced weed biomass in 1996 and 1997, coupled with greater total marketable yield and net return in 1996, indicated that the 91-cm row spacing was the optimal row spacing for Russet Burbank, Goldrush, Russet Norkotah, Snowden, and Atlantic cultivars in 1996 and 1997. Similar yields and net crop value among weed control treatments in 1996 and 1997 indicated that cultivation and possibly even hilling-only areas within fields can be viable alternatives to herbicide use.  相似文献

Mesotrione has recently been registered for weed control in maize in Ontario, Canada; however, there is still little information on the doses required to provide 90% control for the complete spectrum of broadleaved weeds that the product controls. Our objective was to determine mesotrione doses that would provide at least 90% control of four economically important weeds, without impacting final maize yield by more than 5% in comparison to a weed-free control. Sixteen field trials were conducted at six Ontario locations in 1999–2001 to evaluate the effectiveness of mesotrione at doses ranging from 9 to 280 g ai ha−1. The doses required to reduce weed biomass by at least 90% (I90) varied with location and year, and for common lambsquarters and velvetleaf differed by application timing. For lambsquarters, the estimated doses required ranged from 10 to 1984 g ai ha−1 for preemergence applications and 15–38 g ai ha−1 for postemergence applications. Doses of 45 and 19–243 g ai ha−1 were required to effectively reduce the biomass of redroot pigweed. Velvetleaf was effectively controlled preemergence with 288 g ai ha−1 and postemergence with 31 g ai ha−1 of mesotrione. Final maize yield was only reduced by more than 5% of a weed-free control when a dose of less than 35 g ai ha−1 of mesotrione was applied. These results show that biologically effective weed control with reduced doses of mesotrione is possible depending on the spectrum of broadleaved weed species present in the field.  相似文献
