Lighting systems combining light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and metal halide lamps (MHs) are expected to be energy-saving tools in Japan??s squid jigging fishery. Previous research has shown the need for light stronger than LEDs (9?kW) and 36 MHs (108?kW) to catch the Japanese common squid Todarodes pacificus. We tested a stepwise lighting method termed ??stage reduced lighting?? in the Tsushima Strait in January and February 2010 using nine fishing boats. LEDs (9?kW) and 50 MHs (150?kW) were lit for 3.9?h on average, and then the number of MHs was reduced to either 30 or 36 until the end of fishing (7.3?h on average). This method reduced fuel consumption by 22?C25?% compared to the continuous use of all fishing lamps (159?kW). We carried out a catch analysis of nine experimental boats and 21 commercial boats during the experimental period. Generalized linear modeling analysis suggested that the squid catch can be explained by the illuminated fraction of the moon and monthly changes in squid abundance, and the lighting method. The stage reduced lighting using LEDs and MHs has the potential to reduce fuel consumption while maintaining the squid catch.  相似文献

Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) discharge management limits the development of the aquaculture sector, because RAS do not automatically result in low nutrient emissions. Research has helped develop discharge management systems such as wetlands and woodchip bioreactors that have been adopted by Danish commercial model trout farms. To further develop the Danish concept, we have modelled and built a novel “zero-discharge” recirculating aquaculture system with an annual capacity of approximately 14 tonnes. The aim of this paper is to describe the entire concept and present the results from the start-up phase of the whole system. The concept includes the treatment of RAS effluent (overflow and sludge supernatant) using a hybrid solution of a woodchip bioreactor, constructed vertical wetland, and sand infiltration. Using this three-step process, the nitrate, phosphorus, and organic matter effluent are decreased to acceptable levels to reuse the water in the RAS process reducing the need for new raw water. In the first nine months of operation, a water treatment field was used as an end-of-pipe treatment to ensure the water was safe to recirculate for fish. During the winter, the water temperature dropped to 2.7 degrees in the sand filter, but the frost did not reach the water levels in any of the treatment processes. It therefore appears that a hybrid solution can operate sufficiently even in winter conditions. In the first year of operation, a woodchip bioreactor can remove 97 % of the nitrate, although the slow start-up of the RAS caused the bioreactor to be N-limited. On average, 79 % and 92 % of the inflow phosphate concentration was removed in the woodchip bioreactor and the entire hybrid treatment field respectively. The wetland and sand filter removed organic matter sufficiently (35 %), but because of the longer than designed actual water residence, it leached from the bioreactor more than was expected. Further experimentation is needed to identify the financial applicability and performance during higher feeding rates.  相似文献

While rights-based management systems have often been encouraged as effective management tools, few studies have analyzed the effects of those systems empirically. In this article, we have focused on a special form of the territorial use rights in fisheries strategy, namely, an income-pooling system, and examined the effects of this system empirically. Earlier studies have regarded the control of fish landing amount and improvement of the quality of fish as the two main determining factors in such a system. Consequently, in our study, we estimated the relationships between these two factors and the price of fish using the econometric method. The results show that the two factors do indeed have significant effects on price changes.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to further investigate the effects of music on fish physiology, bearing in mind available information regarding the involvement of endogenous and exogenous factors in fish farming. Therefore, Cyprinus carpio (50.5 ± 0.36 g) were reared in a recirculating water system under 80 and 200 lux and subjected to no music at all (control, ambient noise only), 4 h of Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”, or 4 h of anonymous “Romanza-Jeux Interdits” for 106 days. Both music treatments resulted in increased growth performance at both light intensities, with Romanza treatment at 200 lux resulting in better growth performance than Mozart treatment. Furthermore, feed efficiency for the Romanza groups was significantly better than for the control. Although no significant music effect was apparent for brain neurotransmitters, lower anterior intestine alkaline protease levels were detected for both music treatments. Taking into consideration the numerous advantages of recirculating water systems, it should be emphasised that fish response to music expresses the results of various physiological and biochemical processes, especially when fish notably respond differently when subjected to two different pieces of music.  相似文献
