In this study, the role of Cyperus sp. was evaluated for removal of pollutants from swine wastewater. Vertical-flow pilot scale constructed wetlands (CWs) operating with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 72 h were monitored in a greenhouse, located in Viçosa, Brazil. Significant differences were observed for the following parameters: Kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorus, alkalinity and electric conductivity, with averages removals of 37.5 and 28.5%, 55.9 and 44.4%, 30.2 and 25.6 and 26.1% and 22.9% (for planted and unplanted CWs, respectively). The rate of dry matter yield from Cyperus sp. was 7.5 g?m?2 day?1, and the nutrient uptake capacities were 21.8, 2.1, 14.0 and 0.9 g?m?2 of N, P, K and Na, respectively. Evapotranspiration (2.7 mm day?1) was statistically higher in the planted CWs. Plants in the CWs are important for achieving high nutrient removal.  相似文献

Hydroponics culture generates large amounts of wastewater that are highly concentrated in nitrate and phosphorus but contains almost no organic carbon. Constructed wetlands (CWs) have been proposed to treat this type of effluent, but little is known about the performance of these systems in treating hydroponic wastewater. In addition, obtaining satisfactory winter performances from CWs operated in cold climates remains a challenge, as biological pathways are often slowed down or inhibited. The main objective of this study was to assess the effect of plant species (Typha sp., Phragmites australis, and Phalaris arundinacea) and the addition of organic carbon on nutrient removal in winter. The experimental setup consisted of 16 subsurface flow CW mesocosms (1 m2, HRT of 3 days) fed with 30 L?d1 of synthetic hydroponics wastewater, with half of the mesocosms fed with an additional source of organic carbon (sucrose). Carbon addition had a significant impact on nitrate and phosphate removal, with removal means of 4.9 g m-2?d-1 of NO3-N and 0.5 g m-2 d-1 of PO4-P. Planted mesocosms were generally more efficient than unplanted controls. Furthermore, we found significant differences among plant treatments for NO3-N (highest removal with P. arundinacea) and COD (highest removal with P. australis/Typha sp.). Overall, planted wetlands with added organic carbon represent the best combination to treat hydroponics wastewater during the winter.  相似文献

Pyrene is a dominant PAH in urban environments. It can combine with airborne particulates and accumulate on plant leaves. To investigate pyrene’s biodegradation potential, this study initially monitored the abundance of airborne and phyllosphere bacteria. The number of airborne pyrene-degrading bacteria ranged from 22 to 152 CFU m?3 air, and more bacteria were found in the proximity of the ornamental plant swath than along the roadside. Pyrene-degrading bacteria averaged 5 × 104 CFU g?1 on the leaves of all tested plant species and accounted for approximately 7% of the total population. Four pyrene-degrading bacteria were isolated from I. coccinea to use as model phyllosphere bacteria. To increase the bioavailability of pyrene, a lipopeptide biosurfactant was applied. Kocuria sp. IC3 showed the highest pyrene degradation in the medium containing biosurfactant. The removal of deposited pyrene at 30 μg g?1 leaf was monitored in a glass chamber containing I. coccinea twigs. After 14 days, leaves containing both Kocuria sp. IC3 and 0.1× CMC biosurfactant showed 100% pyrene removal with the most abundant bacteria. The system with biosurfactant alone also enhanced the activities of phyllosphere bacteria with 94% pyrene removal. Consequently, the bioremediation of deposited pyrene could be achieved by spraying biosurfactant on ornamental shrubs.  相似文献

The main purpose of this work was to conduct a kinetic study on cell growth and hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] removal by Candida sp. FGSFEP in a concentric draft-tube airlift bioreactor. The yeast was batch-cultivated in a 5.2-l airlift bioreactor containing culture medium with an initial Cr(VI) concentration of 1.5 mM. The maximum specific growth rate of Candida sp. FGSFEP in the airlift bioreactor was 0.0244 h?1, which was 71.83% higher than that obtained in flasks. The yeast strain was capable of reducing 1.5 mM Cr(VI) completely and exhibited a high volumetric rate [1.64 mg Cr(VI) l?1 h?1], specific rate [0.95 mg Cr(VI) g?1 biomass h?1] and capacity [44.38 mg Cr(VI) g?1 biomass] of Cr(VI) reduction in the airlift bioreactor, with values higher than those obtained in flasks. Therefore, culture of Candida sp. FGSFEP in a concentric draft-tube airlift bioreactor could be a promising technological alternative for the aerobic treatment of Cr(VI)-contaminated industrial effluents.  相似文献

Environmental pollution with chromium is due to residues of several industrial processes. Bioremediation is an alternative actually considered to remove Cr (VI) from the environment, using adapted organisms that grow in contaminated places. Have been conducted studies with fungi mechanisms of interaction with chromium, most of which have focused on processes biosorption, characterized it by passive binding of metal components of the cell surface, and bioaccumulation, wherein the metal entry to cells occurs with energy expenditure. The paper presents the results of studies carried out on sorption of chromium (VI) ions from aqueous solutions by Fusarium sp. and Myrothecium sp. Both biomasses have the ability to take up hexavalent chromium during the stationary phase of growth and as well inactive conditions. Fusarium sp. showed 26% of biosorption with active biomass and 64% in inactive biomass; meanwhile, Myrothecium sp. obtained 97 and 82%, respectively. Both fungi showed adjust to pseudo-second-order model in active (Fusarium sp. R 2 = 0.99; Myrothecium sp. R 2 = 0.96) and inactive biomass assay (Fusarium sp. R 2 = 0.99; Myrothecium sp. R 2 = 0.99). The data of the active biomass test also confirmed to the intraparticle diffusion model (Fusarium sp. R 2 = 0.98; Myrothecium sp. R 2 = 0.93). The results obtained through this investigation indicate the possibility of treating waste effluents containing hexavalent chromium using Fusarium sp. and Myrothecium sp.  相似文献

Seven experimental pilot-scale subsurface vertical-flow constructed wetlands were designed to assess the effect of plants [Typha latifolia L. (cattail)], intermittent artificial aeration and the use of polyhedron hollow polypropylene balls (PHPB) as part of the wetland substrate on nutrient removal from eutrophic Jinhe River water in Tianjin, China. During the entire running period, observations indicated that plants played a negligible role in chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal but significantly enhanced ammonia–nitrogen (NH4–N), nitrate–nitrogen (NO3–N) total nitrogen (TN), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) and total phosphorus (TP) removal. The introduction of intermittent artificial aeration and the presence of PHPB could both improve COD, NH4–N, TN, SRP and TP removal. Furthermore, aerated wetlands containing PHPB performed best; the following improvements were noted: 10.38 g COD/m2 day, 1.34 g NH4–N/m2 day, 1.04 g TN/m2 day, 0.07 g SRP/m2 day and 0.07 g TP/m2 day removal, if compared to non-aerated wetlands without PHPB being presented.  相似文献

Wildfires often modify soil properties, including the N status and net N mineralization rates, but their impacts on gross N fluxes have been scarcely evaluated. We aimed to ascertain the immediate effects of a medium–high severity wildfire on soil N transformations. Net and gross N rates were analytically and numerically (FLUAZ) quantified in burned (BS) and unburned (US) topsoils from the temperate–humid region (NW Spain). Analytical and numerical solutions were significantly correlated for both gross N mineralization (m) (r 2?=?0.815; p?<?0.001) and gross nitrification (n) (r 2?=?0.950; p?<?0.001). In BS, all NH4 +-N fluxes (net m, gross m and gross NH4 +-N immobilization, ‘ia’) increased, while those of NO3 ?-N decreased (gross n and gross NO3 ?-N immobilization, ‘in’) or did not vary (net n). In US and BS, gross m (0.26–3.60 and 4.70–15.42 mg N kg?1 day?1, respectively) predominated over gross n (0.026–2.45 and 0.001–0.002 mg N kg?1 day?1, respectively), and the same was true for the net fluxes. Compared with the few available data on recently burned soils (m?=?8–55 mg N kg?1 day?1; n?=?0.50–1.83 mg N kg?1 day?1), our gross m and n rates were similar and very low, respectively; gross n showed that nitrifiers were active in US and also in BS, despite the 98 % reduction observed immediately after the fire. For gross fluxes, m increased more than ia suggesting an NH4 +-N accumulation, but there is no risk of NO3 ?-N leaching because n decreased more than in.  相似文献

In the greenhouse and container nursery production industry there is potential for runoff of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), which may contaminate surface and groundwater. Since the 1950s constructed wetlands (CWs), as a simple, low-technology method, have been shown to effectively treat agricultural, industrial, and municipal wastewater. We investigated the N and P attenuating potential of three floating hydrophytes planted in a laboratory-scale subsurface flow (SSF) CW system. Over an 8-week period plants were supplied with N and P (0.39 to 36.81 mg·L?1 N and 0.07 to 6.77 mg·L?1 P) that spanned the rates detected in nursery runoff between the discharge and inflow locations of a commercial nursery currently employing CWs. Whole plant dry weight was positively correlated with N and P supplied. Highest N recovery rates were exhibited by water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes [Mart.] Solms.) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.). P recovery rates were similar for water hyacinth, water lettuce, and dwarf redstemmed parrotfeather (Myriophyllum aquaticum [Vell.] Verdc.). These floating hydrophytes can be cultivated in a SSF CW to remediate runoff losses of N and P. The possibility exists for integrating them into a polycultural remediation system that includes emergent aquatic macrophytes for processing and polishing nursery/greenhouse wastewater.  相似文献

Applications of dairy farm effluents to land may lead to ammonia (NH3) volatilization and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. Nitrogen (N) transformation process inhibitors, such as urease inhibitors (UIs) and nitrification inhibitors (NIs), have been used to reduce NH3 and N2O losses derived from agricultural N sources. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of amending dairy effluents with UI (N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBTPT)) and NI (dicyandiamide (DCD)) on NH3 and N2O emissions. Treatments included either fresh or stored manure and either fresh or stored farm dairy effluent (FDE), with and without NBTPT (0.25 g kg?1 N) or DCD (10 kg ha?1), applied to a pasture on a free-draining volcanic parent material soil. The nutrient loading rate of FDE and manure, which had different dry matter contents (about 2 and 11 %, respectively) was 100 kg N ha?1. Application of manure and FDE led to NH3 volatilization (15, 1, 17 and 0.4 % of applied N in fresh manure, fresh FDE, stored manure and stored FDE, respectively). With UI (NBTPT), NH3 volatilization from fresh manure was significantly (P?<?0.05) decreased to 8 % from 15 % of applied N, but the UI did not significantly reduce NH3 volatilization from fresh FDE. The N2O emission factors (amount of N2O–N emitted as a percentage of applied N) for fresh manure, fresh FDE and stored FDE were 0.13?±?0.02, 0.14?±?0.03 and 0.03?±?0.01 %, respectively. The NI (DCD) was effective in decreasing N2O emissions from stored FDE, fresh FDE and fresh manure by 90, 51 and 46 % (P?<?0.05), respectively. All types of effluent increased pasture production over the first 21 days after application (P?<?0.05). The addition of DCD resulted in an increase in pasture production at first harvest on day 21 (P?<?0.05). This study illustrates that UIs and NIs can be effective in mitigating NH3 and N2O emissions from land-applied dairy effluents.  相似文献

Subsurface-flow constructed wetlands technology (SSFW) has been used successfully for treating sanitary wastewater throughout North America and Europe. However, treatment wetland technologies have not been used extensively in the tropics. To advance tropical studies, a pilot-scale SSFW was constructed on the campus of the University of the Atlantic in Barranquilla, Colombia. The systems performance was monitored from January to July of 2009. The treatment system consisted of a 760-L septic tank followed by three mesocsom-scale subsurface-flow constructed wetlands in parallel arrangement. Clarified wastewater was batch loaded to each unit at a rate of 53 L/m2/day to affect a hydraulic retention time of approximately 3 days. One of the treatment units served as a non-planted control (gravel only), while the other two treatment units were planted with either Eriochloa aristata or Eleocharis mutata. The objective of this study was to evaluate the comparative efficacy of the treatment units (planted vs. unplanted), with respect to their abilities to augment treatment of septic tank effluent (sanitary wastewater). Monitored parameters included plant biomass, oxidation?Creduction potential, chemical oxygen demand (COD), temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia?Cnitrogen (NH 4 + ?CN) nitrate?C and nitrite?Cnitrogen (NO3?CN, NO2?CN), phosphates (PO 4 ? ), and coliform bacteria. Total biomass (dry matter) was 2.84 and 0.87 Kg/m2 for E. aristata and E. mutata, respectively. Redox potential in the plant rizospheres averaged ?172 mV (±164.1) in E. aristata, 29 mV (±251.1) in E. mutata, and 32 mV (±210.5) in the unplanted control. COD removal was superior in planted vs. non-planted systems (>75% vs. 47%). Ammonia and total phosphorus removal averaged 69% and 85%, respectively, in planted systems versus 31% and 59% in the unplanted system. Removal of total and fecal coliforms averaged 96%. Results of this pilot study revealed that SSFW technology in the tropics can provide significant removal of organic matter, nutrients, and bacteria from clarified sanitary wastewater.  相似文献

To improve the quality of Eucalyptus grandis × E. urophylla seedlings, L9(34) orthogonal tests on nitrogen supplementation (10, 15, and 20 g/plant), phosphorus supplementation (3, 6, and 9 g/plant), and potassium supplementation (6, 9, and 12 g/plant) were conducted to select the most effective combined measurement. The results revealed that Eucalyptus had the highest values for total biomass (737.20 ± 32.74 g/plant), specific leaf area (196.73 ± 23.16 cm2/g), soluble sugar content (8.33 ± 0.75%), protein content (1.16 ± 0.19 g/L), and photosynthetic rate (20.02 ± 1.67 μmol/m2/s) under different combined conditions. Combination effects were observed under nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium supplementation. Nitrogen was the most influential factor in the quality of the Eucalyptus seedlings, followed by phosphorus and potassium. We suggest that a combination of 15 g/plant nitrogen, 9 g/plant phosphorus, and 6 g/plant potassium produces the highest quality Eucalyptus seedlings.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The study aimed to evaluate, in a marginal semi-arid Mediterranean agro-ecosystem (Sicily-Italy), the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation and raw olive mill wastewater (OMW) (40 and 80 m3 ha?1) on forage (durum wheat-snail medick intercropping) yield, and grain production of broad bean and chickpea. AMF inoculation significantly increased (+13.6%) forage dry biomass and durum wheat nitrogen (+22.8%) and phosphorus (+32.5%) uptake. AMF inoculation, significantly promoted broad bean phosphorus uptake (+11.5%) and root nodule number (+13.9%) in the absence of OMW. OMW spreading reduced weeds in the forage (?31.3%), root nodule number (?29.7%) and dry weight (?22.7%) in broad bean. OMW also significantly increased snail medick dry biomass (+19.3%) as compared to control treatments (0, 40 and 80 m3 H2O ha?1, average production 361 g m?2), and broad bean grain yield with a production of 2.46 ± 0.12 and 1.94 ± 0.09 Mg ha?1 with and without OMW, respectively. During the experiment AMF colonization was not affected by OMW volumes. The results obtained showed that in a marginal Mediterranean agro-ecosystem: 1) OMW, notwithstanding spreading volumes, is a valuable amendment to maximize legume yield while 2) AMF inoculation is a valuable practice to improve biomass production and N and P uptake in wheat.  相似文献

Biological treatment systems such as biofilters offer a potential alternative to the existing physicochemical techniques for the removal of volatile organic compounds from gaseous emissions. In this experimental work, continuous phase biofiltration of xylene vapors were performed in a laboratory scale compost biofilter that was inoculated with a xylene-acclimatized consortium. The performance was assessed by continuously monitoring the removal efficiency (RE) and elimination capacity (EC) of the biofilter at loading rates varying between 2–220 g?m?3?h?1. The steady-state removal efficiencies were maintained between 60% and 90% up to a loading rate of 80 g?m?3?h?1. The removal efficiency decreased significantly at loading rates higher than 100 g?m?3?h?1. The pressure drop values were consistently less and insignificant in affecting the performance of the system. The present study also focuses in evaluating the stability of biofilter during shut down, restart, and shock-loading operations. An immediate restoration of biological activity after few days of starvation indicated their capability to handle discontinuous treatment situations which is more common to industrial biofilters. The sensitiveness of the biofilm to withstand shock loads was tested by abruptly increasing/decreasing the loading rates between 9–55 g?m?3?h?1, where, removal efficiencies between 60–90% were achieved. These results prove the resilience of the biomass and the stability of the compost biofilter. Anew, results from kinetic analysis reveal that, steady-state xylene removal in the biofilter can be adequately represented by Michaelis–Menten type kinetics, and the kinetic constants namely, ECmax (120.4 g?m?3?h?1) and K s (2.21 g?m?3) were obtained.  相似文献

It is well known that earthworm populations tend to increase under no-tillage (NT) practices, but abundances tend to be highly variable. In the present study, data from the literature together with those on earthworm populations sampled in six watersheds in SW Paraná State, Brazil, were used to build a classification of the biological soil quality of NT systems based on earthworm density and species richness. Earthworms were collected in 34 farms with NT aging from 3 to 27 yr, in February 2010, using an adaptation of the TSBF (Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility) Program method (hand sorting of five 20 cm × 20 cm holes to 20 cm depth). Six forest sites were also sampled in order to compare abundances and species richness with the NT systems. Species richness in the 34 NT sites and in the 6 forests ranged from 1 to 6 species. Most earthworms encountered were exotics belonging to the genus Dichogaster (D. saliens, D. gracilis, D. bolaui and D. affinis) and native Ocnerodrilidae (mainly Belladrilus sp.), all of small individual size. In a few sites, individuals of the Glossoscolecidae (P. corethrurus, Glossoscolex sp., Fimoscolex sp.) and Megascolecidae (Amynthas gracilis) families were also encountered, in low densities. Urobenus brasiliensis (Glossoscolecidae) were found only in the forest fragments. In the NT farms, earthworm abundance ranged from 5 to 605 ind m−2 and in the forest sites, from 10 to 285 ind m−2. The ranking of the NT soil biological quality, based on earthworm abundance and species richness was: poor, with <25 individuals per m−2 and 1 sp.; moderate, with ≥25–100 individuals per m−2 and 2–3 sp.; good, with >100–200 individuals per m−2 and 4–5 sp.; excellent, with >200 individuals per m−2 and >6 sp. About 60% of the 34 farms fell into the poor to moderate categories based on this classification, so further improvements to the NT farm's management system are needed to enhance earthworm populations. Nevertheless, further validation of this ranking system is necessary to allow for its wider-spread use.  相似文献

The locus responsible for branched spike in a branched spike mutant of Triticum monococcum L. (2n = 2x = 14, AmAm genome) and soft glume in Triticum sinskajae Filat. et Kurkiev (2n = 2x = 14, AmAm genome) were mapped by genotyping F2 populations using microsatellite markers. Phenotypic analysis in the cross T. sinskajae PI 418587/a branched spike mutant KT3-24 confirmed that both characters were under control of a recessive allele at a single locus, and they were linked with 26.6 cM. The branched head in T. monococcum (bh m ) locus was located on chromosome 2AmS and the marker Xgwm122 flanked the bh m gene distally. Soft glume locus in T. sinskajae was allelic to the soft glume (sog) locus in mm09, a soft glume mutant of T. monococcum. The sog locus was linked with Xwmc644 distally. In the F2 hybrids of T. monococcum #252/PI 418587 and T. monococcum KT 3-21/PI 418587, sog was linked with Xgwm71. The gene fg which determines a false glume was also located on chromosome 2AmS and the recombination between sog and fg (1.6 cM) was obtained in F2 hybrid of KT 3-21/PI 418587.  相似文献

This paper investigates the role of plants and sediment in removing nutrients from wastewater being treated in a representative integrated constructed wetland (ICW). It discusses the role of plants and sediment in removing nutrients from an ICW treating agricultural wastewater for more than 7 years. More nitrogen and phosphorus were stored in wetland soils and sediments than in plants. The first cell had the highest depth of sediment accumulation (45 cm). Over the 7-year operation period, the accretion rate was approximately 6.4 cm/year. With respect to maintenance, desludging of the first wetland cell of the ICW system appears to be necessary in 2011. An average of 10,000 m3 per year of wastewater entered the ICW. Approximately 74% (780 kg) of the phosphorus and 52% (5,175 kg) of the nitrogen that entered the wetland system was stored in the wetland soils and sediments. Plants stored a small fraction of nutrients compared to soils (<1% for both nitrogen and phosphorus). This study demonstrates that soils within a mature wetland system are an important and sustainable nutrient storage component.  相似文献

Although dilution of lake water has been used for improvement of water quality and algal blooms control, it has not necessarily succeeded to suppress the blooms. We hypothesized that the disappearance of algal blooms by dilution could be explained by flow regime, nutrient concentrations, and their interaction. This study investigated the effects of daily renewal rate (d), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentration, and their interaction on the domination between Microcystis aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. through a monoxenic culture experiment. The simulation model as functions of the N:P mass ratio and dilution rate (D) (calculated from d) was constructed, and the dominant characteristics of both species were predicted based on the model using parameters obtained in a monoculture experiment and our previous study. Results of monoxenic culture experiment revealed that M. aeruginosa dominated in all conditions (d = 5 or 15%; N = 1.0 or 2.5 or 5.0 mg-N L?1; P = 0.1 or 0.5 mg-P L?1) and the predicted cell densities were substantially correspondent to experimental data. Under various N:P ratios and D values, characteristics of domination for each species were predicted, indicating that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant under high P concentrations (P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1) when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1). It was also suggested that the dilution rate leading to the Cyclotella sp. domination required 0.20 day?1 or higher regardless of the N:P ratios.
Graphical Abstract ? M. aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. could be a superior competitor in nutrient-limited and nutrient-rich conditions, respectively. ? The simulation model in this study indicated that the predicted cell density and nutrient concentration were substantially correspondent to experimental data. ? The model predicted that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant at the P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1 when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1).

The herbicides 2,4-diclorophenoxiacetic and 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acids (2,4-D and MCPA) are widely used in agricultural practices worldwide. Not only are these practices responsible of surface waters contamination, but also agrochemical industries through the discharge of their liquid effluents. In this investigation, the ability of a 2,4-D degrading Delftia sp. strain to degrade the related compound MCPA and a mixture of both herbicides was assessed in batch reactors. The strain was also employed to remove and detoxify both herbicides from a synthetic effluent in a continuous reactor. Batch experiments were conducted in a 2-L aerobic microfermentor, at 28 °C. Continuous experiments were carried out in an aerobic downflow fixed-bed reactor. Bacterial growth was evaluated by the plate count method. Degradation of the compounds was evaluated by UV spectrophotometry, gas chromatography (GC), and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Toxicity was assessed before and after the continuous process by using Lactuca sativa seeds as test organisms. Delftia sp. was able to degrade 100 mg L?1 of MCPA in 52 h. When the biodegradation assay was carried out with a mixture of 100 mg L?1 of each herbicide, the process was accomplished in 56 h. In the continuous reactor, the strain showed high efficiency in the simultaneous removal of 100 mg L?1 of each herbicide. Removals of 99.7, 99.5, and 95.0% were achieved for 2,4-D, MCPA, and COD, respectively. Samples from the influent of the continuous reactor showed high toxicity levels for Lactuca sativa seeds, while toxicity was not detected after the continuous process.  相似文献

Investigations were made on living strains of fungi in a bioremediation process of three metal (lead) contaminated soils. Three saprotrophic fungi (Aspergillus niger, Penicillium bilaiae, and a Penicillium sp.) were exposed to poor and rich nutrient conditions (no carbon availability or 0.11 M d-glucose, respectively) and metal stress (25 µM lead or contaminated soils) for 5 days. Exudation of low molecular weight organic acids was investigated as a response to the metal and nutrient conditions. Main organic acids identified were oxalic acid (A. niger) and citric acid (P. bilaiae). Exudation rates of oxalate decreased in response to lead exposure, while exudation rates of citrate were less affected. Total production under poor nutrient conditions was low, except for A. niger, for which no significant difference was found between the poor and rich control. Maximum exudation rates were 20 µmol oxalic acid g?1 biomass h?1 (A. niger) and 20 µmol citric acid g?1 biomass h?1 (P. bilaiae), in the presence of the contaminated soil, but only 5 µmol organic acids g?1 biomass h?1, in total, for the Penicillium sp. There was a significant mobilization of metals from the soils in the carbon rich treatments and maximum release of Pb was 12% from the soils after 5 days. This was not sufficient to bring down the remaining concentration to the target level 300 mg kg?1 from initial levels of 3,800, 1,600, and 370 mg kg?1in the three soils. Target levels for Ni, Zn, and Cu, were 120, 500, and 200 mg kg?1, respectively, and were prior to the bioremediation already below these concentrations (except for Cu Soil 1). However, maximum release of Ni, Zn, and Cu was 28%, 35%, and 90%, respectively. The release of metals was related to the production of chelating acids, but also to the pH-decrease. This illustrates the potential to use fungi exudates in bioremediation of contaminated soil. Nonetheless, the extent of the generation of organic acids is depending on several processes and mechanisms that need to be further investigated.  相似文献

Resuspension of benthic phosphorus (P) often constitutes a high percentage of the annual P flux in lowland rivers. To study P entrainment at controlled shear velocity (u*) sediment from lowland River Spree of slower flowing (0.1–0.3 m s?1) stretch Kossenblatt (KOB) and of faster flowing (0.5–0.7 m s?1) stretch Freienbrink (FRB) was incubated in a microcosm at incrementally enhanced u* (0.34–1.9 cm s?1). Particle and P entrainment rates as well as the number of particle-associated bacteria of fine-grained mud-like KOB sediment were much higher (16.7 g m?2 h?1, 104.9 mg P m?2 h?1, 15.47 106 cells ml?1) than those (4.3 g m?2 h?1, 2.1 mg P m?2 h?1, 3.06 106 cells ml?1) of coarser sandy FRB sediment. The microcosm used so far in marine research is suited to compare riverine resuspension suggesting the lower u* the more particles are deposited and the more P can be retained (KOB ? FRB). Conversely, correspondingly more and easier particulate P and bacteria can again be remobilised (KOB ? FRB) if u* increases. The general relationship found for u* and the entrainment of particulate P and bacteria as well as their decelerated and selective deposition where bacteria may stay longer in the water implies a temporarily enhanced P bioavailability, turnover and subsequent P transformations.  相似文献
