The impact of replacing circa 70 % fish oil (FO) by a vegetable oil (VO) blend (rapeseed, linseed, palm oils; 20:50:30) in diets for European sea bass juveniles (IBW 96 ± 0.8 g) was evaluated in terms of activities of digestive enzymes (amylase, lipase, alkaline phosphatase, trypsin and total alkaline proteases) in the anterior (AI) and posterior (PI) intestine and tissue morphology (pyloric caeca—PC, AI, PI, distal intestine—DI and liver). For that purpose, fish were fed the experimental diets for 36 days and then liver and intestine were sampled at 2, 6 and 24 h after the last meal. Alkaline protease characterization was also done in AI and PI at 6 h post-feeding. Dietary VO promoted higher alkaline phosphatase activity at 2 h post-feeding in the AI and at all sampling points in the PI. Total alkaline protease activity was higher at 6 h post-feeding in the PI of fish fed the FO diet. Identical number of bands was observed in zymograms of alkaline proteases of fish fed both diets. No alterations in the histomorphology of PC, AI, PI or DI were noticed in fish fed the VO diets, while in the liver a tendency towards increased hepatocyte vacuolization due to lipid accumulation was observed. Overall, and with the exception of a higher intestine alkaline phosphatase activity, 70 % FO replacement by a VO blend in diets for European sea bass resulted in no distinctive alterations on the postprandial pattern of digestive enzyme activities and intestine histomorphology. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Seawater fishes are affected by a pathology commonly called 'myxobacteriosis', caused by Tenacibaculum maritimum (formerly Flexibacter maritimus ). The disease is characterized by fin erosion and necrotic ulcers of skin and muscle, and by low but constant mortality in cultured marine fish; in Italy is one of the most important and widely spread diseases affecting sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax , gilthead seabream Sparus aurata , sharp-snouted bream Diplodus puntazzo , white bream Diplodus sargus , and six-tooted bream Dentex dentex . In order to obtain an effective vaccine against the disease, formalin killed cells (FKC), extracellular products (ECPs) and crude lipopolysaccharide (LPS) preparations were obtained from the T. maritimum strain SPVId and injected intraperitoneally twice into the sea bass. The fish immune response to the preparations was studied: agglutinating antibody titer and in vitro phagocytosis were determined after the first and second injection in order to evaluate whether the preparations are immunogenic or not and if the booster effect took place. The results show that FKC and LPS preparations increased the antibody titer after the first injection when compared to the control sea bass. Moreover, all the preparations stimulated a secondary (booster) response. In vitro phagocytosis of the total blood was significantly higher for all the preparations when compared to the controls, but the crude LPS immunized sea bass showed the highest activity. 相似文献

This study examined the effects of two probiotics (Virgibacillus proomii and Bacillus mojavensis) on the digestive enzyme activity, survival and growth of Dicentrarchus labrax at various ontogenetic stages in three separate experiments. These probiotics were incorporated as single or mixed into fish feed for a period of 60 days. The growth parameters, proximate composition of whole body, digestive enzymes and gut microbiology were monitored at regular. The increments in length and weight and the survival were significantly higher (P < 0.05), and the values of food conversions were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in fishes fed the probiotic. The administration of V. proomii and B. mojavensis in diet resulted in an increase (P > 0.05) in body ash and protein content and in the specific activity of phosphatase alkaline and amylase in the digestive tract of all the fishes. V. proomii and B. mojavensis persisted in the fish intestine and in the feed in high numbers during the feeding period (group 1: 5.8 × 104 CFU/ml, group 2: 9.6 × 104 CFU/ml, and group 3: 9.8 × 104 CFU/ml day 60). The two probiotics V. proomii and B. mojavensis were adequate for improved growth performance and survival and for healthy gut microenvironment of the host. 相似文献

The immediate-early gene (egr-1) expression was used to examine the neuron’s response in telencephalon of goldfish during spatial learning in small space.
Fishes were pre-exposed in the experimental apparatus and trained to pick food from the tray in a rectangular-shaped arena.
The apparatus was divided into identical compartments comprising three gates to provide different spatial tasks. After the
fish learned to pass through the gate one, two more gates were introduced one by one. Fish made more number of attempts and
took longer time (P < 0.05) to pass through the first gate than the gate two or three. This active learning induces the expression of egr-1 in telencephalon as established by western blot analysis. Subsequently, the fish learn quickly to cross the similar type
of second and third gate and make fewer errors with a corresponding decline in the level of egr-1 expression. As the fish learned to pass through all the three gates, third gate was replaced by modified gate three. Interestingly,
the level of egr-1 expression increased again, when the fish exhibit a high exploratory behavior to cross the modified gate three. The present
study shows that egr-1 expression is induced in the telencephalon of goldfish while intensively acquiring geometric spatial information to pass
through the gates. 相似文献

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of supplementation of Garlen®, Diamond V XPC®, and Bactozyme® and their combination in the diets of European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax larvae development in hatcheries on feed intake, growth performance, feed efficiency, intestinal bacterial, survival rate, and economics analysis. Dicentrarchus labrax juveniles (1.4 ± 0.5 mg) were distributed into eight experimental groups with a density of 2.5 larvae per liter. Eight iso-nitrogenous (55% crude protein) and iso-caloric (19.2 ± 0.2 MJ/kg, DM) weaning diets were formulated to contain the control diet (no feed additives), individually or mixed alternatively with three feed additives (Garlen®; Diamond V XPC®, and Bactozyme®). Each experimental diet was allocated to three tanks of fish and fed for 12 weeks. Growth and survival rate (S %) were improved for larvae fed the diets supplied with either (Diamond V XPC® + Bactozyme®) or (Garlen® + Diamond V XPC® + Bactozyme®), respectively compared to the control larvae group. The best FCR value was recorded for larvae fed a diet supply with (Garlen® + Diamond V XPC® + Bactozyme®), while the control larvae group recorded the worst FCR. The optimum significant (P ≤ 0.05) nutrient utilization values, larvae body crude protein content, activity test (ATV%), and profit index (PI) values were observed for larvae fed a diet containing Diamond V XPC® + Bactozyme® or Garlen® + Diamond V XPC + Bactozyme® compared to other treatments. The opposite trend was observed for total bacterial (TBC) and Vibrio sp. counts. No significant (P ≥ 0.01) difference was recorded in Aeromonas sp. count values in all experimental treatments. The results from this study show that (Garlen®; Diamond V XPC®, and Bactozyme®) individually or mixed alternately as growth promoters and immune stimulants in early weaning larval diets of European sea bass under hatchery conditions led to improve growth performance, feed utilization, survival, lowest intestinal bacterial load, and highest profit index (LE). 相似文献

The present work aimed to study metabolic utilization of energy and protein by juvenile European seabass reared at 25 °C and
to estimate maintenance requirements, based on indirect calorimetry and nitrogen excretion measurements. Duplicate groups
of fish (IBW = 22 g) were fed a practical diet, for 28 days, at ration levels of 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.5% of body weight.
At the end of this period, oxygen consumption and ammonia nitrogen excretion were measured in fed and unfed fish. Weight gain
linearly increased with ration level. Feed efficiency significantly increased with nitrogen intake up to 0.68 g N/kg/day.
Nitrogen retention (% N intake) was positive at all feeding levels, being maximum at 0.5% BW and then decreased with increasing
ration levels. There was negative energy balance at the lowest ration level and significantly increased at higher ration levels.
Daily oxygen consumption (g/kg body mass) and ammonia excretion (mg N–NH4/kg body mass) significantly increased with ration level. Heat production and heat increment of feeding (kJ/kg/day) remained
low at low ration levels and significantly increased as ration level increased from 0.5 to 1.5% BW. Below maintenance, protein
energy represented 34% of total energy expenditure and significantly increased to 49–56% above maintenance. Based on indirect
calorimetry and ammonia excretion data, maintenance energy and protein requirements were estimated to be 56.8 kJ DE/kg/day
and 1.15 g DP/kg/day, respectively. The efficiencies of energy and protein utilization were estimated to be 0.83 and 0.66,
respectively. 相似文献

In order to evaluate the feasibility of dried seaweed Gracilaria lemaneiformis (Bory) as a dietary ingredient for the rabbitfish Siganus canaliculatus (Park), juvenile fish (average weight 15.64 ± 0.15 g) were fed with two isonitrogenous (32% crude protein) and isolipid (8%
lipid) diets for 8 weeks, with one diet incorporating 33% of dried G. lemaneiformis (DGL), which accounted for 6% protein and 17% carbohydrate (DGL-diet), and the other containing no DGL (control diet). After
8 weeks, the growth performance and feed utilization efficiency of fish fed with the DGL-diet were inferior to fish fed with
the control diet, although some non-specific immunity parameters were better in fish fed with the DGL-diet compared with those
of fish fed control diet. Nutritional composition (whole body composition, amino acid, and fatty acid composition in dorsal
muscle) except methionine and tyrosine in muscle showed no differences between the two groups. Furthermore, the survival rate
of fish and apparent digestibility coefficient of diets were the same between the two groups. These results indicated that
incorporation of DGL in diet of S. canaliculatus is feasible, and further studies are recommended to optimize the level of DGL in diet of S. canaliculatus to improve growth performance. 相似文献

Seeking alternatives to the depleting fish oil are crucial for marine fish aquaculture, which is currently dependent on fish oil as the primary source of n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC-PUFAs). Five isonitrogenous (46% crude protein) and isolipidic (16% crude lipid) feed diets (FO, ISO2.9, ISO4.8, ISO6.7, ISO8.6) were formulated by partially replacing fish oil with microalgae Isochrysis galbana. These diets were fed to triplicate tanks of Trachinotus ovatus (mean initial weight 1.92 g) for 80 days. This work demonstrates that a moderate inclusion (around 4.5–5.0 wt%, equivalent to the replacement of 24–26 wt% fish oil) of I. galbana biomass in fish diet improves fish growth performance, lipid deposition and enhances total n-3 fatty acids, DHA, and EPA contents in neutral and polar lipids (PLs) of fish muscle and liver of T. ovatus. The results disclosed in this study suggest that I. galbana microalgae represents a potential high-quality substitute for fish-based ingredients in aquaculture feeds, which can be a promising sustainable solution to resolve the depleting fish oil resource in a cost-effective manner. 相似文献

Trace elements in otoliths of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) and sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) from fish farms and coastal wild populations in the western Mediterranean Sea were analysed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Results showed that concentrations of Mg, K, and Mn differed significantly between wild and farmed sea bass, while concentrations of Mg, K, Mn, Fe, Zn, Sr, and Ba varied significantly between wild and farmed sea bream. Discriminate analysis and cross-validation classification showed that the trace element profile in otoliths can be used to separate farmed fish from wild stocks with high accuracy on both sea bass (individuals correctly classified: 90.7 %) and sea bream (individuals correctly classified: 96.6 %). Moreover, trace elements in otoliths resulted to be useful to discriminate among wild fish stocks within each species. 相似文献

In this study, four essential oils—cinnamon oil, leech lime oil, lemongrass oil, and turmeric oil—were examined for their
antimicrobial activities against Streptococcus iniae, a bacterium that is pathogenic in fish, in which it causes streptococcosis. Cinnamon oil was the most potent antimicrobial
agent among these oils, with a minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 40 μg/ml. By using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry
(GC–MS), it was found that the major components of cinnamon oil were cinnamaldehyde (90.24), limonene (2.42%), cinnamyl acetate
(2.03%), linalool (1.16%), and α-terpineol (0.87%). Of these compounds, only cinnamaldehyde exhibited antimicrobial activity
against S. iniae, with an MIC of 20 μg/ml. In an in vivo trial, no mortality was apparent in fish fed on fish diets supplemented with 0.4%
(w/w) of cinnamon oil and with 0.1% (w/w) of oxytetracycline 5 days prior to infection with S. iniae. These results indicate that cinnamon oil had a protective effect on experimental S. iniae infection in tilapia, and thus has the potential to replace the antibiotics used to control this disease. 相似文献

The present study histologically examined the effects of glucan-containing and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG)-containing diets on intestinal damages inflicted on Nile tilapia by Aeromonas challenges. Tilapia were fed control, glucan, and LGG diets for 2 weeks and were subsequently challenged with Aeromonas. The intestines were then histologically examined at 1, 7, 14, and 21 days post-infection. Mortality following the challenge
was lower for the fish fed the glucan and LGG diets. The intestines of these groups also showed increased inflammatory cell
infiltration and reduced intestinal damage from Aeromonas. Moreover, inflammatory cell infiltration occurred more rapidly in the glucan-fed than in the LGG-fed fish following the
challenge. Before the challenge, the dominant mucous cell was the acid type in all the tests. After the challenge, the main
mucus cell type in the proximal intestine of the glucan-fed fish shifted to AB-PAS double-staining cells, while in the LGG-fed
fish, it remained the acid type throughout the test period, and the number of double-staining cells was smaller than in the
control fish after the challenge. Thus, the different mucous cell and inflammatory cell responses show that glucan and LGG
might have different immunostimulative effects, although they both reduced the intestinal damage following Aeromonas challenges. 相似文献

The current study aimed to evaluate the possible effect of Origanum essential oil on innate immune parameters as well as the hematological profiles of Tilapia zillii following challenge with Vibrio anguillarum. Fifty-four of Tilapia zillii weighing 180?±?10.2 g were randomly distributed into three identical closed recirculating seawater systems. The study included three groups (G1, G2, and G3) repeated in triplicates. Fish of the first two groups were fed on a basal diet without herbs, whereas fish of the last group were fed on a basal diet supplemented with Origanum essential oil at concentration 1 g kg?1 for 15 days. Subsequently, fish of G2 and G3 subjected to a peritoneal inflammation by intraperitoneally injecting V. anguillarum (5.5?×?105 CFU mL?1), whereas fish of G1 injected with saline and served as control. Fish of all groups were then sampled at 4, 12, and 24 h post injection. No mortalities were observed in both basal and Origanum fed groups. However, some specimens of fish fed basal diet showed dorsal fin erosions, eroded mouth, and detached skin. Although the kinetics of RBCs, WBCs, Hb, and differential leukocyte values remained unchanged in fish fed different diets at the beginning of the trial, significant increases in those values were observed in fish fed Origanum essential oil at 12 and 24 h post injection. Similarly, an augmentation of plasma proteases, antiproteases, and lysozyme activities were recorded in fish fed Origanum essential oil at the same particular sampling points. A significant enhancement in plasma bactericidal capacity was only recorded in fish fed Origanum essential oil at 12 and 24 h post challenge compared to those fed basal diet. In conclusion, Origanum essential oil had a pronounced influence on the innate immunity and increased the fish resistance to V. anguillarum. These data gave insight into the potential use of Origanum in prophylactic strategies against threatening pathogens. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of an acute handling stress on hepatic oxidative status of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) juveniles fed diets differing in lipid so urce and carbohydrate content. For that purpose, four diets were formulated with fish oil (FO) and vegetable oils (VO) as lipid source and with 20 or 0% gelatinized starch as carbohydrate source. Triplicate groups of fish with 74 g were fed each diet during 13 weeks and then subjected to an acute handling stress. Stress exposure decreased hematocrit (Ht) and hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Independent of dietary treatment, stress exposure increased hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO). Stressed fish exhibited lower glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, independent of previous nutritional history. In the VO groups, stress exposure increased glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activity. Diet composition had no effect on Ht and Hb levels. In contrast, dietary carbohydrate decreased hepatic LPO and CAT activity and increased glutathione reductase (GR) and G6PD activities. Dietary lipids had no effect on LPO. Fish fed the VO diets exhibited higher G6PD activity than fish fed the FO diets. In conclusion, dietary carbohydrates contributed to the reduction of oxidative stress in fish. However, under the imposed handling stress conditions, liver enzymatic antioxidant mechanisms were not enhanced, which may explain the overall increased oxidative stress. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Prey fish selection by Far Eastern catfish and largemouth bass were examined using bluegill, Japanese dace and crucian carp as food fish. In both aquaria (1.2 m × 0.45 m) and ponds (2.8 m × 1.2 m), bluegill was not preyed on by catfish and bass more than dace and crucian carp. In aquaria, there was no significant difference in the consumption of dace and crucian carp between catfish and bass, but in ponds, catfish preyed on dace and crucian carp more and less than bass, respectively. In the case that only bluegill and catfish were introduced in ponds, catfish consumed 4–15 g of bluegill per day. The introduction of catfish into ponds and lakes for the purpose of eradicating bluegill is considered appropriate for areas with few native fish species. 相似文献

The influence of Tribulus terrestris on the activities of testicular enzyme in Poecilia latipinna was assessed in lieu of reproductive manipulation. Different concentrations of (100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 mg) Tribulus terrestris extract and of a control were tested for testicular activity of enzymes in Poecilia latipinna for 2 months. The testis and liver were homogenized separately in 0.1 mol/l potassium phosphate buffer (0.1 mol/l, pH 7.2).
The crude homogenate was centrifuged, and supernatant obtained was used as an enzyme extract for determination of activities.
The activities of testicular functional enzyme ALP, ACP, SDH, LDH, and G6PDH levels were changed to different extent in treated
groups compared with that of the control. The total body weight and testis weight were increased with the Tribulus terrestris-treated fish (Poecilia latipinna). These results suggest that Tribulus terrestris induced the testicular enzyme activity that may aid in the male reproductive functions. It is discernible from the present
study that Tribulus terrestris has the inducing effect on reproductive system of Poecilia latipinna. 相似文献

Protein arginine methylation is important for gene regulation and biological processes. Methylosome protein 50 (Mep50) is identified as a partner of protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (Prmt5), a major enzyme capable of symmetric dimethylation, in mammals and Xenopus. The isolation and characterization of medaka mep50 were reported in this paper. Medaka Mep50 is a homolog of human MEP50 with six WD40 domains. Medaka mep50 was ubiquitously expressed in the adult tissues and had maternal origin with continuous and dynamical expression during embryonic development detected by RT-PCR and in situ hybridization. A strong interaction of medaka Mep50 and Prmt5 was shown by yeast two hybridization. The expression pattern of mep50 is similar to that of prmt5 in medaka. The results suggested that medaka Mep50 could be a partner of Prmt5 and might play major roles in a variety of tissues in medaka. 相似文献
