Blowflies (Calliphoridae) and vacuum-packed ham In a few cases blowfly maggots have been reported from vacuum-packed ham. The possibility of egg-hatching and larval development in the product was analysed. In experiments no hatching of blowfly eggs on vacuum-packed, boiled, sliced ham occurred. However, the eggs are not killed immediately; 1–4 days after the packing, they are still viable and when the wrapping is broken, hatching may occur. After a stay of 7–10 days on vacuum-packed ham, the viability of the eggs seems lost. In the actual case the risk of oviposition by blowflies on ham in the cannery and succeeding larval development in the product is considered to be very low.  相似文献

Methanolic extract ofMelia azedarach fruits enriched by washing with petrolether and ethyl acetate was used for laboratory treatments of two lepidopteran pests in Egypt. The experiments were carried out with concentrations of 10, 15, 25, 50, 100 and 1000 ppm in a diet and compared with control insects. In both insects food consumption, weight gain and conversion of ingested food (ECI) in body matter decreased with increasing extract amounts. The conversion of digested food (ECD) was lowered gradually by using higher concentrations ofMelia extract. Some antifeedant activity was observed in larvae ofS. littoralis andA. ipsilon. The percentage of mortality increased with application of higher concentrations ofMelia extract in both species. Starting from 3rd larval instar the larvae of both species reduced significantly their weight until pupation in 25 ppm and higher extract concentrations, while the larval period was prolonged. The pupal weight was significantly reduced at 15, 25 and 50 ppm. At higher concentrations the larvae failed to pupate. Duration of pupal period was affected only inA. ipsilon. All reproduction parameters, as period of oviposition, fecundity, fertility and longevity of males and females were affected using emerged adults from treated larvae with concentrations of 10, 15 and 25 ppmMelia extract. InS. littoralis no adult emerged from pupae originated from larvae treated with 50 ppm and higher amounts and no larva hatched from eggs laid by adults treated with 25 ppmMelia concentration as larvae. In both species the oviposition period was shortened at 15 and 25 ppm extract, the fecundity and fertility were drastically reduced, and the longevity of males and females was reduced. Cross sections of the midgut showed that the epithelial cells are destroyed in both pests. This can be one of the reasons for the observed effects.  相似文献

Toxicity of ivermectin (Ivecop-12), a derivative of avermectin B, produced by a soil actinomycete, Streptomyces avermitilis, was evaluated in laboratory against the larvae of Spirama retorta Cramer (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), a major stenophagous insect defoliator of Albizia spp. (family Leguminosae) in nurseries and young plantations. The study was conducted with eight treatment concentrations of lethal and sub-lethal doses. Results revealed that ivermectin is highly toxic and induce larval mortality when applied separately on host plant leaves and larvae, and on leaves and larvae of the insect pest together. The nature of treatment affects the larval mortality. Treatment of host plant leaves alone as well as leaves together with larvae showed 100% mortality by the treatment of 0.075% concentration whereas only 95% larval mortality was recorded due to larval treatment by the concentration of 1.2%. The LC50 value of the tested product was worked out to be 0.014, 0.170 and 0.012% for leaf and larval treatments separately and leaf and larval treatments together, respectively, against the insect pest. This clearly shows that ivermectin is more effective in larval killing when ingested through food. Further, the adults developed from treatments of sub-lethal concentrations and subsequently, when mated laid significantly (P < 0.05–0.01) less number of eggs and also showed significant (P < 0.05–0.01) reduction in hatching percentage compared to control. These observations suggest that the tested bioproduct, ivermectin, interfere physiological programming of larvae thereby causing alteration in fecundity and fertility of the target insect pest.  相似文献

To determine whether Monochamus alternatus can use the Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) as a host tree, experiments were conducted in a laboratory using three insect populations of different localities. Adult females chose Pinus densiflora bolts as oviposition substrate when supplied with cedar and pine bolts simultaneously, whereas some females from one locality oviposited on cedar bolts when supplied with them exclusively. Seventy-three percent of 40 eggs hatched in cedar bolts. When the first instar larvae were inoculated on cedar bolts, the development was stunted greatly and all died during the larval stage. Two of 20 larvae that were inoculated on cedar bolts at the third instar entered the diapause and one larva developed into an adult female, which produced viable eggs but was much smaller than those obtained from pine bolts. The results did not exclude the possibility that M. alternatus can use recently killed C. japonica trees as a host.  相似文献

Relating to the frequency of occurrenceAmblyseius finlandicus Oud. is the dominating species of the family Phytoseiidae in Austria. Series of experiments have been made in the laboratory to investigate the influence of the predator population density on the rate of oviposition. In spite of sufficient food supply the rate of reproduction decreased with an increasing number of mites per rearing unit. Single kept females had rates of oviposition (1.9 eggs/day/female) significantly different from females kept in groups (2, 5 or 8 mites per unit with 1.6, 1.2 and 1.1 eggs/day/female).  相似文献

Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of repeated and delayed exposure to fresh codling moth eggs on the parasitism of Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal and T. principium Sug. et Sor. The percentage survival of T. cacoeciae and T. principium females significantly declined as the number of exposure times increased (or as the females became older). The highest mean number of parasitized eggs and F1 progeny were recorded during the first day of exposure, after which they declined. However, the percentage mortality of parasitized eggs of T. cacoeciae and T. principium was negatively correlated with repeated exposure. When the exposure of T. cacoeciae and T. principium females to host eggs was delayed for 3 days after emergence, the percentage of oviposited females was not affected; however, the mean number of parasitized eggs, F1 individuals and the percentage mortality declined significantly. The current study provided essential information necessary to determine the optimal timing of parasitoid releases to increase the efficiency of T. cacoeciae and T. principium against codling moth.  相似文献

The development, longevity, fecundity and sex ratio of the predatory miteAmblyseius longispinosus (Evans) were studied at different constant and alternating temperatures withTetranychus cinnabarinus as prey. Alternating temperatures had no significant effect on the developmental times, in comparison with optimal constant temperature. At the alternating temperature of 33/23°C the mean duration of the life cycle from egg to adult was obvious longer with 5.0 and 4.4 days forA. longispinosus females and males than at alternating temperature of 30/20°C with 4.2 and 4.1 days for females and males. At 25°C constantly the egg stage was the longest during development and required a mean of 2.2 days.A. longispinosus females and males remained in larval stage for 0.5 and 0.6 days. The protonymphal and deutonymphal stage lasted for 0.7 and 1.1 for females and for 0.7 days for males, respectively. At all temperatures the development of females required significantly longer than of males. Longevity ofA. longispinosus adults was variable to tested temperatures: At 25°C females lived for 33.1 days, at 30/20°C for 30.6 days and at 33/23°C for 29.9 days. At 25°CA. longispinosus females produced a mean total progeny of 48.8 eggs and the mean duration of oviposition period was 21 days; at 30/20°C and at 33/23°C a mean number of 49.1 and 48.2 eggs was laid during an oviposition period of 20 days. Temperature had no effect on the sex ratio of predatory mites, about 70% of mites became females at all temperatures.  相似文献

The spotted stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is being successfully reared on artificial diets for screening programmes. Besides quality characteristics of the diet, rearing density and adult nutrition have significant implications on the successful mass multiplication of lepidopterans. The performance of C. partellus moths was assessed on different adult diets (water and sugar solution) and compared with unfed adults. Further, three pairing densities, viz. 2, 5 and 8 pairs/oviposition jar (1177.5 cm3) were compared for their effect on C. partellus longevity and fecundity. In another experiment, different larval densities (100, 150 and 200 neonate larvae/diet jar) were evaluated for their effect on the larval survival. Water-fed moths (both males and females) lived longer (7.32 and 7.26 days, respectively) and showed higher fecundity (307.17 eggs) than the sugar-fed or unfed moths. The latter, however, showed better egg hatchability (76.55%) than the water- or sugar-fed moths (60.45 and 50.59%, respectively). The longevity (5.67 days) and fecundity (258.46 eggs) were significantly greater at pairing density of 2 pairs/jar. The larval survival was higher (58.50%) at rearing density of 100 larvae/jar. The neonate larval release into diet jars was compared with conventional egg release and both modes were no different with respect to larval survival.  相似文献

By breeding grape moth,Lobesia botrana Den. et Schiff., in laboratory conditions the effect of constant temperatures on the growth and reproduction of the pest was investigated. On the basis of collected data the sum of effective temperatures for every stage of growth as well as the threshold temperature for the growth were calculated. For the embryonic development the temperatures are 74,0°C±2,3°C and 8,8°C; for the larval development in males 384,6°C±30,1°C and 7,3°C, in females 362,3°C±20,9°C and 9,4°C; for the chrysalis stage in males 162,1°C±23,5°C and 7,1°C, in females 151,5°C±24,0°C and 9,1°C. The sums of effective temperatures of the particular growth stages were completed by their quantil values (Q30, Q50, Q75, Q95). The threshold temperature for the life of moths was set up as 11,0°C in males and 12,8°C in females. The reproduction activity in the majority of females begins at temperatures above 15°C. The effect of the temperature on the actual fertility has proved to be significant. The optimal temperatures for the oviposition are within the range of 20,0°C–27,0°C. The relation between the actual fertility and temperature is at these temperatures determined by the regression line equation Y=?5,75·X+293. Temperatures below or above the limits of this interval are less favourable for the oviposition because they lead to a decreasing of actual fertility. The limit temperature (15°C) of reproduction activity in the majority of females is considered to be the lowest extreme temperature for the oviposition.  相似文献

Recently, Apolygus lucorum (Hemiptera: Miridae) has become an important insect pest of Bt cotton and fruit trees in China. At present, the application of chemical insecticides is the main control option for this pest. We investigated the lethal effect of seven neonicotinoid insecticides on A. lucorum adults, including six commercialized neonicotinoids and a novel one, cycloxaprid, which is developed in China. In addition, we assessed the sublethal physiological (longevity, fecundity) and behavioral (pre-oviposition and oviposition periods) effects of LD10 (low lethal dose) and LD40 (moderate lethal dose) of cycloxaprid on the mirid bug. Lethal effect of the insecticides was determined using a topical exposure method; contact toxicity against the adults was ranked as follows: cycloxaprid, nitenpyram > clothianidin > acetamiprid, imidacloprid > thiamethoxam > dinotefuran. Among these insecticides, the toxicity of cycloxaprid against the adults was the highest; its LD50 value was 2.54 ng a.i. (active ingredient)/adult. Both LD10 (0.74 ng a.i./adult) and LD40 (1.98 ng a.i./adult) of cycloxaprid induced sublethal effects in the adults; we observed a reduced longevity in males and the LD40 also shortened the longevity of females. In addition, the LD40 prolonged the pre-oviposition period and shortened the oviposition period of females, and it decreased their fecundity. The hatching rate of eggs laid by the females exposed to LD10 and LD40 greatly decreased (two-fold lower when exposed to LD40). Our results demonstrate that cycloxaprid is among the best candidate insecticides for controlling A. lucorum, and it showed significant lethal and sublethal effects on this mirid bug.  相似文献

Thirty-four plant essential oils were screened for their acaricidal and oviposition deterrent activities against two-spotted spider mite (TSSM), Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), in the laboratory using a leaf-dip bioassay. From initial trials, sandalwood and common thyme oils were observed to be the most effective against TSSM adult females. Subsequent trials confirmed that only sandalwood oil was significantly active (87.2 ± 2.9% mortality) against TSSM adult females. Sandalwood oil also demonstrated oviposition deterring effects based on a 89.3% reduction of the total number of eggs on leaf disks treated with the oil. GC–MS analysis revealed that the main components of the sandalwood oil were α-santalol (45.8%), β-santalol (20.6%), β-sinensal (9.4%), and epi-β-santalol (3.3%). A mixture of α- and β-santalol (51.0:22.9, respectively) produced significantly higher mortality (85.5 ± 2.9%) and oviposition deterrent effects (94.7% reduction in the number of eggs) than the control. Phytotoxicity was not shown on rose shoots to which a 0.1% solution of sandalwood oil was applied.  相似文献

The effect of the duration of copulation on egg production and sex ratio was studied in two phytoseiid mites,Cydnodromella negevi (Swirski and Amitai) andTyphlodromus athiasae Porath and Swirski in the laboratory. In both species, the fecundity of females, oviposition period and the proportion of females in the progeny increased with the duration of copulation. It was shown that in the two physoseiid mites several copulations are required to deposit the maximum number of eggs.  相似文献

The effect of different host plants including cabbage, cauliflower, mustard, radish, and broccoli on biological parameters of Pieris brassicae (L.) was studied in the laboratory at 28°C, 65 ± 5% RH and 12L:12D photoperiod. Duration of each life stage, longevity, the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m), net reproductive rate (R 0), mean generation time (T), doubling time (DT), and finite rate of increase (λ) of the cabbage white butterfly on the different cole crops were estimated. Differences in fertility life table parameters of the P. brassicae among host plants were analyzed using pseudo-values, which were produced by Jackknife re-sampling. The results indicating that cabbage might be the most suitable food for P. brassicae due to the shorter development time (16 days), longer adult longevity (12 and 9 days for female and male, respectively), higher fecundity (281 eggs/female), higher intrinsic rate of natural increase (0.1156 females/female/day), lower doubling time (6.00), lower larval mortality (70.33%), and higher yield of adult (30%). Therefore, it can be concluded from the present study that P. brassicae prefers cabbage for fast and healthy development with low larval mortality and highest number of adult yield than other cole crops.  相似文献

Unraveling the relationship between adult oviposition preference and offspring performance is central to understanding the evolution of plant–insect interactions. In the present study, we collated previously reported data, including our own, of adult oviposition preference and offspring performance of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, on various wild and cultivated crucifer plants, and did correlation analysis between the two. Intrinsic rate of increase, pupal weight and fecundity of the ensuing adults were regarded as an indicator of larval performance of P. xylostella among 18 species of wild and cultivated host plants. Adult preference was estimated as the relative number of eggs laid on the plants by P. xylostella in a two-choice test or similar tests. Adult oviposition preference and larval performance of P. xylostella were positively related, so at least for undamaged (not induced) plants mother appears to know best.  相似文献

This study was carried out to determine the development, survival and reproduction responses of Adalia fasciatopunctata revelierei (Mulsant) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) feeding on Hyalopterus pruni (Geoffroy) (Homoptera: Aphididae), using 20, 40, 80, 160 and 250 prey densities. All experiments were conducted at 25±1°C, 60±5% relative humidity, 16:8 light:dark under laboratory conditions. The average daily prey consumption of A. fasciatopunctata revelierei immatures and adults increased with increasing prey densities. Predation was not different for the larval stages at 80, 160 and 250 prey densities. The longevities of adult females were 35.67, 35.33, 49.00, 58.33 and 57.16 days when 20, 40, 80, 160 and 250 H. pruni were provided, respectively. The mean daily and total fecundity of A. fasciatopunctata revelierei increased with increasing prey densities. Females of A. fasciatopunctata revelierei feeding on H. pruni laid 89 eggs at 20 prey density and 301.67 eggs at 160 prey density. The search rate of females was higher than that of all larval instars; and the search rate of the fourth-instar larvae was higher than that of younger instars. Handling time decreased with development from larval stages to adult.  相似文献

We examined the effect of bark thickness of host trees on the ovipositional success ofSirex nitobei in relation to female body size by analyzing the relationships between female body-weight and ovipositor length and between bark thickness ofP. densiflora andP. thunbergii trees and oviposition proportion (the proportion of eggs laid to the potential female lifetime fecundity) of the woodwasp. The ovipositor length ranged from 6 to 14 mm and was correlated positively with the fresh body-weight of females. The bark thickness of host trees had no significant correlation with the oviposition proportion of large females of more than 100 mg f.wt, whereas it was correlated negatively with that of small females of less than 100 mg f.wt. Thus,P. densiflora, which has thinner bark as a whole thanP. thunbergii, may be more suitable for oviposition, especially for smaller females. The development time, survival and fecundity of the generalist predatory mite, Neoseiulus umbraticus Chant, were determined at 20, 25, and 30?°C and 65?±?10?% RH. N. umbraticus females completed development in 9.7, 8.0 and 5.9 days, respectively, using a diet of all life stages of Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval. Total developmental times of males were relatively shorter at 25 and 30?°C than at 20?°C. In general, preoviposition, oviposition, and postoviposition periods of N. umbraticus shortened as temperature increased. The longest survival rate of N. umbraticus of 80.5 days occurred at 20?°C, followed by 67.0 and 57.6 days at 25 and 30?°C, respectively. Mated females laid an average 0.9, 1.3 and 1.4 eggs per female per day and 33.1, 44.0 and 43.6 eggs over their entire lives at 20, 25 and 30?°C, respectively. The sex ratios of this species were 0.57, 0.57 and 0.54 female (female+male) at 20, 25 and 30?°C, respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) became greater with rising temperatures from 0.123 at 20?°C to 0.180 at 30?°C. The net reproduction rate (Ro) was highest at 25?°C (25.0 females/female) and lowest at 20?°C (18.8 females/female), while To decreased with increasing temperatures, from 23.8 days at 20?°C to 17.5 days at 30?°C.  相似文献
